Embracing a Remote Workforce - Our Practices for Global Productivity and Comm...Atlassian
Today, 37% of Americans work from home part-time. And the trend is spreading throughout organizations across the globe. From day one, Auth0 – a fast-growing identity platform – has welcomed geographical diversity. After-all, co-founders Eugenio Pace and Matías Woloski created the company while on two different continents. They believe in hiring the best person for a role, regardless of where they reside, and now have 200 employees spread across 25 countries. While there are many benefits to a work-from-home lifestyle, there are also a unique set of challenges, including the need to have buy-in from the entire company for a remote culture to work.
In this session, Eugenio will discuss best practices for creating and supporting a remote workforce like how to effectively manage distributed projects and run global meetings. You will leave with specific, practical steps to communicate deliberately, create processes, and utilize tools to work productively from anywhere.

Getting Started with Agile: A Guide to Building High Performing TeamsAgileThought
Agile has exploded in the last decade. Started in the software industry, Agile has now gone mainstream and is being adopted by a wide range of organizations. This rapid growth can be attributed to its core principles of delivering customer value quickly, while seamlessly dealing with change.
Due to this growth, there is a ton of online information about how best to become Agile. Many training courses focus on adopting an "Agile Mindset" or learning a prescribed framework like Scrum. Blog articles discuss specific Agile practices, like the daily standup meeting, while webinars promise increased ROIs and customer satisfaction. For newcomers, this information can be overwhelming, especially for those assessing if Agile is even applicable to them.
What is lacking is a clear guide on how to get started. This talk will explain why every Agile journey must begin with the formation of independent, cross-functional teams that do not require assistance from outside resources to deliver value. We will focus on how to create high performing Agile teams by instilling a culture of accountability and transparency. Finally, we will review the critical Agile practices to which every team must adhere with commitment and discipline.
Agile efforts typically begin in engineering but become stagnant when they fail to expand to other parts of the organization. This talk will explore the individual systems that must thrive for an entire organization to be agile. The four core elements that must exist for agility to scale with longevity and purpose are: alignment to strategy, customer-first values, lean discovery practices, and capacity for change. We will take an in depth look at how each element operates with agile methods and what is required for them to evolve within the business. Gain an understanding of how to move beyond following practices in isolation in order to achieve harmony in the full embrace of reciprocal agile principles at scale.
In response to seeing a "how to pass your Scrum Master/Agile Coach Interview" we've created a way for employers to call BS on candidates who could otherwise dupe their way into a coaching role.

Increasing Design Influence by adapting your voice to your organization's dec...Dani Nordin
As designers, we like to think of ourselves as makers. When we’re working on large, wicked problems, the challenge is that “making” is no longer a solo endeavor; it’s something that requires a lot of people and functionality to make happen. This can leave designers feeling like we’ve had to compromise our standards to appease business or development stakeholders. It also inadvertently creates an us-versus-them mentality that actually makes it less likely that we’ll be successful in moving forward our vision of what’s possible.
So what does this mean for us? Simply understanding what your product’s users are dealing with isn’t enough. To make truly great products, you need to understand how people, organizations, systems and content play together. In this presentation, we’ll focus on some ways to help understand the organizational context you’re working within, and to adjust your approach to increase your success within those organizations.

Climate Science Flows: Enabling Petabyte-Scale Climate Analysis with the Eart...Globus
The Earth System Grid Federation (ESGF) is a global network of data servers that archives and distributes the planet’s largest collection of Earth system model output for thousands of climate and environmental scientists worldwide. Many of these petabyte-scale data archives are located in proximity to large high-performance computing (HPC) or cloud computing resources, but the primary workflow for data users consists of transferring data, and applying computations on a different system. As a part of the ESGF 2.0 US project (funded by the United States Department of Energy Office of Science), we developed pre-defined data workflows, which can be run on-demand, capable of applying many data reduction and data analysis to the large ESGF data archives, transferring only the resultant analysis (ex. visualizations, smaller data files). In this talk, we will showcase a few of these workflows, highlighting how Globus Flows can be used for petabyte-scale climate analysis.

Providing Globus Services to Users of JASMIN for Environmental Data AnalysisGlobus
JASMIN is the UK’s high-performance data analysis platform for environmental science, operated by STFC on behalf of the UK Natural Environment Research Council (NERC). In addition to its role in hosting the CEDA Archive (NERC’s long-term repository for climate, atmospheric science & Earth observation data in the UK), JASMIN provides a collaborative platform to a community of around 2,000 scientists in the UK and beyond, providing nearly 400 environmental science projects with working space, compute resources and tools to facilitate their work. High-performance data transfer into and out of JASMIN has always been a key feature, with many scientists bringing model outputs from supercomputers elsewhere in the UK, to analyse against observational or other model data in the CEDA Archive. A growing number of JASMIN users are now realising the benefits of using the Globus service to provide reliable and efficient data movement and other tasks in this and other contexts. Further use cases involve long-distance (intercontinental) transfers to and from JASMIN, and collecting results from a mobile atmospheric radar system, pushing data to JASMIN via a lightweight Globus deployment. We provide details of how Globus fits into our current infrastructure, our experience of the recent migration to GCSv5.4, and of our interest in developing use of the wider ecosystem of Globus services for the benefit of our user community.

In software engineering, the right architecture is essential for robust, scalable platforms. Wix has undergone a pivotal shift from event sourcing to a CRUD-based model for its microservices. This talk will chart the course of this pivotal journey.
Event sourcing, which records state changes as immutable events, provided robust auditing and "time travel" debugging for Wix Stores' microservices. Despite its benefits, the complexity it introduced in state management slowed development. Wix responded by adopting a simpler, unified CRUD model. This talk will explore the challenges of event sourcing and the advantages of Wix's new "CRUD on steroids" approach, which streamlines API integration and domain event management while preserving data integrity and system resilience.
Participants will gain valuable insights into Wix's strategies for ensuring atomicity in database updates and event production, as well as caching, materialization, and performance optimization techniques within a distributed system.
Join us to discover how Wix has mastered the art of balancing simplicity and extensibility, and learn how the re-adoption of the modest CRUD has turbocharged their development velocity, resilience, and scalability in a high-growth environment.
