Typically in organizations, there are multiple projects / products. These products may be of implemented using tech-stacks over many years. Yet - they interact with each other in some way. To manage the complexity around Test Automation, many organizations prefer to have a common Test Automation solution across these products in an effort to build, standardize and maintain the framework.
However, this is not a good idea! With this approach one potentially ends up having to compromise on the quality of automation that can be done for each product, limited by the toolset.
The better approach would be to use the tools and technologies that are "right" for each product. This does have other disadvantages, but you would ensure each product is well tested! The only missing piece that remains is that these different products talk with each other. You need to test the integration between them in an automated way to verify all is well.
"TaaS" is an open-source product solution that allows you do achieve the "correct" way of doing integration testing across a variety of products via Test Automation.
Example:
For one set of products, Selenium-based toolset may be the right choice, where as for legacy reasons, QTP may be used for some other product. With TaaS - you will be able to automate the Integration Testing between these products, by re-using the tests already implemented in the individual product suites.

Visual regression testing focuses on to check visual contents and animations, page layout, and responsive design of a website/app. Because of the limits of human vision, human-based visual regression testing is generally error-prone and cumbersome. Hence, automation is inevitable. It enables us to run the tests much more precisely in a short time period. Also, it saves us a significant amount of time to deal with other manual test activities in each sprint.
In this talk, we will walk through well-known open-source and commercial solutions for visual test automation. We will learn which technologies they use, what type of visual tests they are suitable for, and their major differences between each other. Besides this overview, we will also make a real-life visual test automation demo by using Selenium, ImageMagick, and AShot.

They certainly appear fast and easy at first, but they can easily become unwieldy within the first week of the start of your project. A month later, you may have 100 columns and 500 rows! At eBay, this was the case for a few teams until they decided to try a small experiment using JIRA. The goal was to empower teams to better manage their work and provide them with better tools to work with. Jon Bach, Senior Program Manager for Contact Reduction at eBay, will unravel what happened next that helped bring a more relational and extensible approach to managing projects as compared to the the flat nature of spreadsheets.

Todd serves as Adjunct Faculty at IE Business School in Madrid, and co-authored the book "Design Sprint," published by O'Reilly. Not only is he a chemistry Ph.D. dropout, but he also founded ProductCamp Boston. Those two facts may or may not be related.

As UX embraces agile as a project delivery approach, research seems get left out in the cold. Rather than shivering and complaining about it though maybe we just need to stick two fingers up to these assumptions and dare to do things a little differently!
In her workshop at UX People, Nina helped delegates explore how to bring research in from the cold on agile projects. There were tips on getting the research basics right (effective participant recruitment and facilitation techniques), and delegates were given the opportunity to road-test their facilitation and analysis skills in an agile-friendly framework (full exercises not available in this presentation).

As machine learning integrates deeper into human-computer interactions, the concept of epistemic interaction emerges, aiming to refine these interactions to enhance system adaptability. This approach encourages minor, intentional adjustments in user behaviour to enrich the data available for system learning. This paper introduces epistemic interaction within the context of human-system communication, illustrating how deliberate interaction design can improve system understanding and adaptation. Through concrete examples, we demonstrate the potential of epistemic interaction to significantly advance human-computer interaction by leveraging intuitive human communication strategies to inform system design and functionality, offering a novel pathway for enriching user-system engagements.
Search and Society: Reimagining Information Access for Radical FuturesBhaskar Mitra
The field of Information retrieval (IR) is currently undergoing a transformative shift, at least partly due to the emerging applications of generative AI to information access. In this talk, we will deliberate on the sociotechnical implications of generative AI for information access. We will argue that there is both a critical necessity and an exciting opportunity for the IR community to re-center our research agendas on societal needs while dismantling the artificial separation between the work on fairness, accountability, transparency, and ethics in IR and the rest of IR research. Instead of adopting a reactionary strategy of trying to mitigate potential social harms from emerging technologies, the community should aim to proactively set the research agenda for the kinds of systems we should build inspired by diverse explicitly stated sociotechnical imaginaries. The sociotechnical imaginaries that underpin the design and development of information access technologies needs to be explicitly articulated, and we need to develop theories of change in context of these diverse perspectives. Our guiding future imaginaries must be informed by other academic fields, such as democratic theory and critical theory, and should be co-developed with social science scholars, legal scholars, civil rights and social justice activists, and artists, among others.
