Long shots show the entire body and are used to establish scenes. Medium shots show people from the waist up and are used for conversations that may include other people. Close shots focus on faces to show emotions and connect with actors during intimate scenes. Point of view shots allow the viewer to see exactly what a character sees to experience the story from their perspective.

 Long shots are a shot where you will get all of the
body in the picture, this is normally done to establish
the scene for part of your film, this shot is commonly
used at the start of most programmes, such as the old
Coronation Street theme. This is sometimes done to
give drama to a show, and Coronation street and
other similar TV dramas will use the same style to
give it that feeling, they are also used in Emmerdale,
when the show will go into a break, they will show a
long shot with the title in.

Medium shots are a shot that will normally show the
main person in the shot from their waist up, this shot is
normally used to show a conversation between two
people, this is normally done with other people in the
shot, normally around two or three (which would make
it a two shot or a three shot). The shot could be
combined with an Over-The-Shoulder shot which
would also be used for a conversation.

 Close shot (Which can also be called a Close-Up) is a
shot that will focus on the face of an actor and will
show emotions on someone's face and is done to give
us a connection to the actor as you begin to get closer
to that actor through the shot and is used normally
for intimate scenes in a movie.

 A point of view shot shows us exactly what the actor
sees and allows us to be able to be in that characters
shoes at the given moment that the shot begins, they
normally do a POV shot after showing who the shot
is going to be of, to make sure that you know exactly
who you’re going to be seeing doing what.
