Camera angles
1.
2. INTRODUCTION
In the presentation I will be looking at different camera angles are their
meanings, I will be using a popular American TV drama called ‘suits’ to help me
show the different camera angles and describe their meanings. The fact that I’ve
used actual footage from a DVD shows how I was able to pick out the key shots
and camera angles.
3. This shot is an example of a medium
close up shot. The medium close up is
half way between a mid shot and a
close up. This shot shows the face
more clearly, without getting
uncomfortably close to the face which
may make the audience feel
uncomfortable, which is not the
intention of this particular scene.
4. This is an example of a mid shot. The
mid shot does show some detail of the
subject, it shows enough for us to feel
like we are looking at the whole person.
The medium shot is best used when the
subject is usually stood not doing to
much, its best used when the person is
not taking to much, when the audience
doesn’t really need to concentrate on
them too much. It’s a comfortable shot
that allows us to see a lot more
movement around them.
5. This is an example of a Two shot. The
basic idea of a two shot is to have a
comfortable shot of two people. This
shot is mainly used when there are 2
people presenting a TV show or giving
a presentation in an interview in a
board room etc. in this case the two
actors have walking into a room
together and the main focus is the both
of them, not just one of them. The 2
shot establishes the relationship
between the two people, in this case
the two men are partners in a law firm.
6. This is an example of a close up shot .
Close up shits are useful for showing
detail and can used as a cut-in. A close
of a persons face shows and
emphasizes the emotions on their face,
in this case, the person is on the phone
and had clearly heard some news that
has made him speechless and upset,
the close up helps us to see this much
more clearly. The audience is drawn to
the persons face as it’s the only thing
they can see which takes up the whole
screen.
7. This is an example of an Over the
shoulder shot. This shot is framed
behind a person who is looking at
the person who is usually talking,
as they become the main focus of
the image when they are talking,
the slight view of the other persons
head and shoulder show that they
are the one who is listening. The
person faxing the main person
should take up about 1/3 of the
frame. Its common to cut between
theses shots during a conversation
between the two people, thus
alternating the view between the
different speakers.
