Low angle shots are used to portray a character looking up, such as Spiderman contemplating his role. Extreme long shots establish a location from a distance. Medium long shots introduce characters from head to knee, like The Joker entering a scene. Medium close ups show who is speaking and give a close view of characters' upper bodies, used in The Boy in the Striped Pyjamas. Extreme close ups focus on specific facial features to show emotions, seen in Tom Hanks' eyes in Saving Private Ryan. Two shots show two people conversing, like in Star Trek. Point of view shots portray what a character sees, such as the view of those shocked by Andy's escape in Shawshank Redemption.
