Craniotomy:
In craniotomy, the surgeon makes an incision in the scalp and
creates a hole. Both the hole and incision are made close to the
area being treated. It is also called open brain surgery. This
process of surgery is opted to remove tumors, drain blood or
fluid from an infection, clip off an aneurysm, remove abnormal
brain tissue. When the procedure is done, the hole is usually
secured in place with sutures, plates or wires. In case of
tumors, infection or brain swelling, the hole may be left open.
When it is left open, the procedure is called a craniectomy.

This method of surgery is performed to remove a small amount
of brain tissue or a tumor so that it can be examined under
microscope. Biopsy involves a small incision and a hole in the

8. Minimally Invasive Endonasal Endoscopic:
As the name suggests, this type of surgery is performed to
remove lesions and tumors through the nose and sinuses. It
allows the surgeons to access the brain without making an
incision. In endoscope, a telescopic device is used. An
endoscope is equipped with lights and a camera so that the
surgeons can see where they are working. This procedure can
be used for tumors on the pituitary gland, tumors growing at

Just like biopsy, this procedure involves making a small hole in
the skull. But, instead of taking out a piece of tissue, the
surgeon inserts a small electrode deeper into the brain. Then
the electrode is connected to a battery placed at the chest

to cure symptoms of various disorders such as Parkinson's
