“Disney Constructs Childhood so as to Make It Entirely...
Disney constructs childhood so as to make it entirely compatible with consumerism (Smoodin cited
in Giroux, 2002; 105). Discuss this statement in relation to TWO animated films from the Disney
canon. The Walt Disney Company is a diversified international entertainment company (Disney,
2010) with ownership of many media outlets including radio, cinema, television and literature as
well as consumer products such as stationary and toys. The Disney brand has huge recognition
globally especially in the category of children s entertainment with over 80 years of productions in
this sector. With an obvious predominance and market leadership in children s entertainment and
consumerism, The Disney Company has an unparalleled capability to reach... Show more content on

Disney s 1997 film Hercules is an example of Disney s use of its films to create a media spectacle
to increase awareness of its products through the media and also to use the film contents itself to
promote consumerist behaviours to children. Disney s release of the film in 1997 amidst a
promotional blitz (Giroux, 2001, 160) that included advertising not only the film itself but also
toys, clothing, accessories and electronics all with the Disney branded Hercules featured on them.
The purpose of this was that every child who was exposed to the media hype would also be
exposed to the advertisements for the products that surrounded the film. Disney was in full
force...making sure that every child...knew that along with the film[Hercules] came stuffed animals,
figurines, backpacks, lunchboxes, tapes, videos and a host of other gadgets. (Giroux, 2001, 161)
By doing this Disney created a direct correlation between the film excitement and the commercial
goods that is undistinguishable for children and therefore pushes them to participate in the
spectacle by buying the Hercules products advertised as well as seeing the film. Disney also shows
consumerism within the film and emphasises the excitement of buying products relating to
Hercules. During the song within the film from zero to hero The people of ancient Greece are seen

Lighthouse Of Hope Narrative
During my third visit to the Lighthouse of Hope, I realized that I was getting used to moving
boxes around. I also started to realize how well the Lighthouse of Hope was organized in order
to do its job. In the early morning, around seven am or so, the volunteers who fill the boxes will
go to the Lighthouse and fill as many boxes as possible, and if there is a volunteer for moving
the boxes, they would help as well. While that was going on, the supervisor, Donna, would sit
down near one of the two doors in the building. Donna sat there to welcome all those who entered
as well as to give them a number, so that when it is called, they will be served. A few more

Ballet Shot Analysis
Following this long shot we are shown a close up shot of Nina s foot, during this shot Nina is
practicing a fouettГ©. The purpose of this shot is to convey to the viewer how much pressure
Nina is placing on her body, in particular, her feet. A lot of ballet in danced en pointe (on the tip
of a person s toes), this sort of pressure can be detrimental to one s physical well being. A lot of
members in the audience will have prior knowledge of how painful and strenuous it can be to
place all of your body weight on just your toes, thus reinforcing to the audience the large amount of
pressure Nina is forcing upon herself.
The audience can also see the scuff marks on the floor, this effectively demonstrates just how
much time Nina dedicates to practicing at home. As an audience, we generally know from
personal experience and exposure that this is what wood looks like after it has been scratched
and used excessively. From this the audience is able to interpret the extent to which this area has
been used. Nina s extensive and obsessive practice schedule has placed so much pressure and
friction on the wood that her petite body was successful in wearing away the surface of the wood. ...

This shows the audience just how frequently Nina practices. Either these are new ballet shoes,
meaning she is already prepared for hers to give in, having brand new shoes at the ready means
she doesn t need to disturb her practice. Or on the other hand, they may be shoes she has already
used and destroyed due to her excessive rehearsal schedule, showing just how much she practices
and how intense and prolonged these practices really are. This reaffirms the idea of obsession to the
audience, confirming to them that the purposeful addition of the ballet shoes in the background of
this shot effectively demonstrate how Nina s obsession is increasing, and how this leads to her
inevitable self destruction later on in the

Gender Themes In The Girl In Blue By Ann Rinaldi
There is a theme in The Girl in Blue by Ann Rinaldi. The theme is that gender does not affect
skill level. The Girl in Blue is set in 1861, and is about a Michigan native by the name of Sarah
Louisa. She is about to be forced to marry a man of her abusive father s choice when she decides
to run away and join the army. She joins the army under the ruse that she is a boy and participates
in the battle of Bull Run but her gender is eventually found out by her doctorand general. She is not
punished for her actions but discharged and sent to work as a spy for the Pinkerton agency. She
is sent to spy on a southern ally who is under house arrest to find out how she is sending messages
to the south. She discovers how and is rewarded with a break. She travels home to find her abusive
father had died and her sister is betrothed to the manshe ran from. She leaves to go back to her job
as a spy and that is where the story ends. Some of the reasons the theme could be gender not
affecting skill level is that first of all the general does not punish her for her actions. Second, she is
sent to work as a spy for a job only a womancould do. Lastly, before she even goes to war she has
to do all the work for the house instead of her father.
When Sarah is discovered as a girl by her doctor and general she is not discharged. This is
because she has shown prowess on the battlefield and in the hospital tent as well. On the
battlefield, she had the courage to shoot a cavalry officer instead of one of the footmen, and she
aimed the shot perfectly at his heart. This shows how she is able to take charge and to stay calm
in a hectic situation. She had the peace of mind to get on a knee aim the gun and fire a fatal shot
to the heart. furthermore, while in both places she had to hide the fact that she was a girl while
surrounded by men. In the hospital she tried not to get sick by taking the bitters which is a
medicine to prevent smallpox so she wouldn t be examined by Dr.Hammond, the doctor at that
hospital tent. Lastly, she volunteers to go a 5 mile trip through some rebel territory to get
morphine for the injured men. This shows how she is dedicated to helping her brothers in arms
who are in need of medical care. This is one

Does Dark Matter Exist
Even though dark matter is in existence we don t have the instruments available to detect it yet. A
theory suggests that dark matter is what actually makes up a large portion of our universe. Even
though we can t detect it, we know dark matter exists because it can interact gravitationally with
visible matter and radiation. A professor from New York stated that dark matter
plays a large role in
causing geological catastrophes as well as mass extinction.
`An example of when dark matter played a role in a large catastrophe is the extinction of
Dinosaurs 65 million years ago. As the solar system moves around in a cyclic motion it passes
through a largely crowded galactic disk that contains lots of dark matter. Our planet is orbiting

Cirque Du Soleil s Current Existing Methods For...
To manage new talent and keep it fresh, Cirque Du Soleil needs to reevaluate current existing
methods to recruiting new performers. Simply refreshing the current existing method of casting
allows for Cirque to get consistent and reliable results without clearing out their bank accounts. An
ideal way of refreshing it is to publicize the auditions they currently hold with 20 countries. Instead
of holding private sessions like they do now, make it available to the public audience. The venue
will be paid for with cheap tickets that Cirque Du Soleilcan sell. Casting talent will not only be up
to the casting director(s), but the audience as well since they can influence the decision to cast
auditioners by their reaction to their performance. While this won t necessarily yield any
immediate profits, it will expand brand recognition, eliminate some of the issues that arise when
it comes to casting, and allow Cirque Du Soleil to see the kind of talent and performances that
truly resonate with people. AgnГЁs Roux statement supports this best. He states that each
performer came to work for the company in a different way. I auditioned in Paris, but some
friends have been spotted in competitions, on TV programs or during performances with other
companies (Zar, 2013, p. 17). One of the issues that Cirque has when it comes to casting is that
lone performers would have a difficult time going through the growing up process with the show
and/or being away from family and friends that have

who was dying of ALS (Lou Gehrig s disease). Instead of being afraid of death, he faced it head
on and decided to make the most of his time left. After seeing a Nightline episode featuring his old
professor, Morrie, the author, Mitch, decides to pay his old professor a visit. Mitch is intrigued by
Morrie s attitude towards deathand his life lessons, so he decides to visit Morrie again next
Tuesday and record what Morrie has to say. This turns into a weekly meeting between Mitch and
Morrie and eventually these meetings were turned into the book, Tuesdays with Morrie. Mitch the
author of the book and Morrie s old student. Mitch is distracted in his life and focusing on things
that Morrie feels are unimportant (work, fame, and success). Though focused on the wrong things,
Mitch has a good heart and Morrie helps him find himself again The most important thing in life is

Beloved Analysis Essay
In Toni Morrison s Beloved, the author explores the deeper effects of the pain of Sethe s past in
chapter six through synesthesia, tone, double meaning, and diction. When Beloved becomes
peculiarly obsessed with Sethe, she prompts the harrowing times of her cobwebbed past with
unusually specific questions. Throughout the novel, Beloveds appetite for information spawns
Sethe and Denver s desire to fulfill her wishes, their level of eagerness increasing accordingly.

Sethe s storytelling begins to release the pressure built up inside of her mind, leaking out
through each breath in and out. It s described as a way to feed and a substance to thirst for,
implying it s necessity when equated to food or drink. The release of her painful emotions are
essential to Sethe s recovery, and they are intensely stimulated through synesthesia. By
connecting the necessity of food to Sethe s necessity of opening up the coffin of the past, the
reader is handed the ability to see how important it is for her to relinquish those stories to not just
Beloved, but herself as well. Next, Morrison felt the need to give this quote not one meaning, but
two! She begins the quote with, it became a way to feed her , but the her that is referred to can be
interpreted ambiguously. The ambivalence of the pronoun her serves the purpose as the storytelling
can be construed to feed both Beloved who is curious about Sethe s ghosts and Sethe who appears
to find a maturing pleasure in it. By providing this double meaning within the text and throughout
the whole novel, we see many contrasting ideas of Sethe s painful past and Beloved s taxing
amusement of her

Essay Mang Minno
Allusions to Vampires in Mang Minno In Mang Minno , a short story within Where The
Elephants Dance by Tess U Holthe , a young boy named Roman encounters a man named Mang
Minno, who is believed by the island people to be Jonah from the Bible. When Roman meets
him, he wishes to learn how to catch fish, so that he can show them to his father. He thinks that
all he is getting himself involved in is a method with which to gain large amounts of fish, very
quickly. However, he soon finds that he is getting involved in something far more sinister. As the
story progresses, it becomes clear the Mang Minno is some sort of evil entity. However, without

These clues are the most direct in the story, they take traits directly from vampire folk lore and
superimpose them on Mang Minno.
Mang Minno s attitude and aura are both also similar to that of a vampires; rather vile and dark.
His aura is well illustrated with the following examples: His voice is described as having an
unsettling effect on Roman: The bitterness of his voice touched me like fingers of the dead (81).
This simile, referring to the dead, shows that Roman may subconsciously be aware of what
Mang Minno is. After all, vampires are regarded as not being truly alive, but being life forces of
the deceased. Mang Minno s eyes are described as glowing (90), when Roman sees him from the
boat he is riding with Aurora (Mang Minno s daughter). Mang Minno s attitude is also illustrated by
way of the disdainful comments he makes about church:
In church, does it ever seem to you a kind of game? Hypocritical. Be humble, they say, yet people
come in their best clothes. Give penance, yet as they close their eyes and kneel, they compare who
is better dressed, the beauty of someone else s wife, the sway of her hips, they think of anything
but prayers.
(96)
This attitude is vile and dark, which Roman sees. It also fits in with the accounts of Mang Minno
being a devil worshiper, he would obviously be against God and churches. All of the above
demonstrates Mang Minno s

Smallpox Vaccines Essay
The world is full of dangers some seen while others slip right under the radar until it is too late.
According to the Merriam Webster online dictionary a vaccine is, a preparation of killed
microorganisms, living attenuated organisms, or living fully virulent organisms that is
administered to produce or artificially increase immunity to a particular disease. Before the
invention of vaccines, the immune systemwas left fighting a losing battle against some of mankind s
worst enemies, but with the help of vaccines humans have a tool to strengthen their immune system
and fight back against these unseen killers. Vaccines defeat deadly viruses, strengthen society, and
change lives.
Invented by an English physician, Jenner Edwards, in 1796 vaccines have come to defeat many
deadly viruses. Through experimentation and hard work, Jenner created the first vaccine for the
deadly smallpox virus. Jenner spent much of his life researching and experimenting to find a way
to beat smallpox, and in 1796 from the teats of cows Jenner invented the first effective smallpox
vaccine. After infecting children with a small amount of cowpox, Jenner discovered that the
children built up an immunity to the otherwise deadly smallpox virus (Helicon). Before Jenner s
invention of vaccines disease ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Essay about Emperor of China; Self-Portrait of K Ang-Hsi
Emperor of China; Self Portrait of K ang hsi Emperor K ang hsi was one of the greatest Chinese
emperors of all time. Ruling from 1662 to 1722 he was also one of the longest ruling emperors in
Chinese history and for that matter the world. K ang hsi brought China to long term stability and
relative wealth after years of war and chaos. Jonathan Spence writes from the eyes of K ang hsi
getting his information from K ang hsi s own writings. Though a little biased towards himself this

form of honesty. Emperor K ang hsi tried to live forever through his children. He had 56
children all together but only one with his first wife, who later took over the thrown. The
Emperor was very protective of his sons and made sure they got everything they wanted. He
would often kill someone that threatened the chance of a power overthrow. He once killed three
cooks and several servant boys for suspicion of homosexual activity with his son Yin jeng. At the
end of K ang hsi s life, he became very senile and distant from reality and the Chinese people.
Even though Spence goes into great detail about Emperor K ang hsi s life than any history book
could have. He does this by emphasizing his writings and not other sources. The downfall to this
is he does not go into great detail about many of the facts or important historical events. By this
time China had foreign intervention and influence; Spence did not address any of the foreign
policies K ang hsi made during his reign. Spence only wrote one paragraph about the
confrontations with Russia, but the real even actually lasted over several decades. And the only
thing that was mentioned was how nice the Emperor was to the Russian prisoners. Emperor of China

almost as twice as much of the industry average of $334,900. However, the total actual expense is
$354,070 higher (calculation is provided at the end of Appendix 7), which results the overall profit
fall below the industry average of $28,100 in 2008. Therefore, The Squeaky Horn is an absolute
industry leader in revenue sector, but did not do well in maintaining high profitability through
expenditure control.

Adolf Hitler And The Holocaust
Adolf Hitler, chancellor of Germany from 1933 to 1945 and fГјhrer of Nazi Germany from 1934 to
1945, was the mastermind behind both World War II within Europe and the Holocaust. In the Final
Solution, concentration and extermination camps were implemented in an attempt to rid of the
Jewish population entirely. Such a task, genocide, would not be done easily. By the end of World
War II, over six million Jews had been killed. However, not merely Jews were subject to mass
murder, but nearly five million non Jewish people. Out of all of these deaths, a range from
1,885,889 to 2,045,215 were in the concentration camp system. Furthermore, approximately one
million of these deaths were carried out within the Auschwitz concentration campcomplex. Thus,
one in every six Jews killed during the holocaustwas killed at an Auschwitz camp. These
extermination camps were the only means by which such a multitude of murder could have been
efficiently accomplished. The systematic mechanization of mass murder, using gas chambers and
crematoria, made such high death tolls fathomable, making efficient killing easier both physically
and psychologically.
The concentration camp system was established well before World War II and the Final Solution.
The camps had commonly been constructed in desolate places, free from German jurisdiction.
Thus, allowing murder in both large and small amounts to be carried out surreptitiously. Some, if
not most, of these murders being cursorily reported. As

Wolf Spider Predation
ABSTRACT
In Cautious versus desperado males: predation risk affects courtship intensity but not female
choice in a wolf spider the courtship displays of the wolf spider, Pardosa milvina were investigated.
The wolf spider s courtship display in males includes raising their legs and shaking their bodies.
The rate of a males leg raises is a signal of the assets the male has, females that mate with males
with quicker leg raises had more progeny and these left the egg sac faster and lived longer.
Rypstra et al. wanted to determine if male wolf spiders that differ in assets and quality would
behave differently under the risk of predation and wondered if the differences in reactions would
affect how females choose their mates. This study consisted of two experiments, in the first
experiment they determined that the symmetry of the front legs of males was related to their rate
of leg raises, this was used as a measure of male quality. They used this measure in the second
experiment when they explored how Tigrosa helluo predator cues changed the males courtship
behaviour. It was determined that predation cues did not have an effect on whether mating
happened between males and females and a ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
I believe that higher quality males should perform their courtship display at a lower intensity
when predator cues are present, while lower quality males should increase their displays. This is
because higher quality males long term reproductive options are more evident and lower quality
males may become desperados and showoff whatever assets they have in a desperate attempt to
convince a female to mate with them. If females can judge whether a male is of high or low
quality then even when there is risk of predation, they will mate with the males that are of higher
quality (Rypstra et al.

Observations of Parent-Child Interactions and Temperament...
| Observations of Parent Child Interactions and Temperament Psychology 223 January 23, 2013 |
Temperament is defined as the features of your personality that are present at birth and have a
genetic/biological basis. Your temperament, or basic disposition, interacts with environmental
influences to create your personality (Salters Pedneault, 2010). Temperament is a behavioral style
that shows the how of behavior, rather than the what or why. Temperamental differences are present
at birth; they influence how children behave toward individuals and objects in their environments
and how they are affected by the environment (Behavioral Development Initiatives, 1996 2012).

was very polite and respectful and the mother did not use a cell phone during the interaction. Once
they finished eating, the young girl helped her mother clean up the table and left the restaurant
hand in hand. Second scenario observed was at the Greentree Mall at Texas Roadhouse when a
mother, father, and young boy were ordering dinner. The waitress brought crayons and paper for
the child. Both parents were using their cell phones adamantly. Once the food arrived at the table,
the mother reached over and took the crayons and paper from her son. The young boy began
screaming and demanding the crayons and paper back. The mother was saying no to the boy and he
continued to scream as the parents attempted to appease the boy by returning the crayons or
ignoring the negative behaviors. The behavior continued to the point that others patrons were
complaining and the family was ultimately asked to leave the restaurant. Third scenario took place
within Wal Mart standing in the checkout line. A young boy was sitting in the shopping cart and
wanted to be put down on the ground by his father. The father continued to state no to the young
boy. The young boy pouted and eyes filled with tears for a moment. With the father s reassurance,

John Coffey s Defense Mechanism In The Movie
Freud s defense mechanisms are thoroughly seen and depicted well in the movie. John Coffey
demonstrates the defense mechanism of regression. Regression is when one withdraws to former
and childish like characteristics. John has childlike behaviors such as being afraid of the dark and
this intensified because of his environment at the cold prison. Another defense mechanism that is
seen is rationalization. This is portrayed in the character Paul. Rationalization is when one self
justifies their actions and usually these actions are bad. Paul rationalizes the killing of John
Coffey, an innocent man, because by law he has been convicted for murder. Although Paul knows
this is untrue, he looks to the evidence of the murder to excuse his actions of allowing Coffey to go
down the green mile. Percy... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
An external locus of control is the perception that something outside of one s control determines
their fate. The prisoners sentenced to death display this characteristic because they do not try to
change their fate and accept that there is nothing they can do. Paul also demonstrates an
external locus of control because he knows John s powers gave him life for a long time and he
knows there is nothing he can do about his life span. Percy displays a negative self esteem.
People with a negative self esteem tend to be judgmental and belittle on others to make
themselves feel better. Percy acts this way throughout the entire movie towards the inmates by
calling them scum and other negative words. Percy also was prejudice towards John because of
his African American heritage and his height considering Percy was a small man. Since John
Coffey was an enormous African American, there is a negative stereotype on him from the
townspeople. They assume since his appearance is different, that he was the murderer of the two
little girls. A stereotype is a widely used belief about a group of people, in this case African

Cheapest Football Prediction
Both team to score football prediction has always been one of the cheapest and easiest football
prediction ever, it is so simple that it requires no one sitting you down to give you a lecture over
it, before you know what to do and how to go about it.
Both team to score, has it sounds means the prediction of the probability of the two teams playing
in a football match to get the ball in both courts, that is the chances of both team scoring. No matter
how hard or soft the football match is, the two teams must make sure to have at least one goal each
before the end of the match.
The major point of view or core question you should ask yourself when predicting both team to
score in a football match is how often the two team have played against ... Show more content on

Many times it happens that whenever a good team is playing as away team having an opponent that
has a strong defense strategy, they are often prone to being pressured by the home team and this
might in turn lead to one or two goals, though the good team might end up winning the match but
the main objective of the prediction have been achieved.
Another good idea is looking for the injury level of the players from both teams and how often
they could survive injury on the pitch. A striker or defender who has a long record of injury
survived could easily fall into another scene of being injured in a match lasting for over
90minutes. Therefore, if a star striker or defender is injured the chances of that team scoring or
defending obviously fall and this in one way or other may lead to achieving the aim of both team
scoring.
Summarily, Looking for teams that have weaker attacking or defense skills has always been a
very good strategy of finding matches for both teams to score. When both teams have weaker
attacking or defense skills, it becomes very easy for both teams to penetrate into each other s court
thereby creating series of scoring

Renewable Resources For Renewable Energy
Introduction
In the most basic definition, energy is power that is harnessed from physical or chemical
resources, often utilized in order to produced light, heat or fuel. It can be extracted from various
renewable or non renewable sources and has become a necessity for day to day life. Currently non
reusable resources account for the majority of energy production. The prominence of fossil fuels in
the energy sector validates this claim. At the same time this statement reveals a major world issue
in regards to energy sustainability. Although they may able to produce copious amounts of energy,
non renewable resources cannot renew themselves on the timescale required by current energy
consumption. With this in mind, non renewable resource depletion is inevitable without sustainable
energy alternatives for future generations. At this point it is important to recognize the difficulty of
this task given the ever increasing energy consumption associated with exponential population
growth. Amongst all nations, Canada is near the forefront of renewable energy; the country is the
fourth largest producer of renewable electrical energy despite its 8th place standing in energy
consumption. This is undoubtable due to the abundance of natural resources in its geographical
location. Currently 17% of total energy production is derived from renewable resources, despite the
sector not being fully developed. Based on its initiatives in incorporating more renewable energy
technologies to

Analysis Of Magnetic Resonance Imaging ( Mri ) Based Three...
Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) based three dimensional reconstruction has been used
successfully to evaluate the female pelvic floor muscles and tissues in women with and without
pelvic floor dysfunction [1, 2]. Furthermore, MR based 3D reconstructed models have been used to
generate finite element and element free computational models suitable for simulating vaginal child
birth [3, 4], offering insight into risk factors for childbirth related pelvic floorinjury. The Finite
Element Method has also been used to evaluate anterior vaginal wall support, and the mechanisms
underlying cystocele formation [5]. Precise segmentation of pelvic magnetic resonance images
(MRI) is an important step in building the three dimensional (3D) reconstructed structural models
suitable for computational analysis. Segmentation consists of outlining each organ or tissue of
interest from the underlying grayscale images on each slice in the dataset.
The 3D reconstructed models are currently generated from manually segmented label maps, which
currently require multiple hours of tedious manual segmentation to produce each reconstructed 3D
model. This manual segmentation bottleneck limits the number of computational models that can
be reliably produced in a timely manner, thereby limiting the number of study subjects available for
the kind of statistical comparisons that can potentially lead to clinically meaningful insight. In
addition, the structures of the female pelvic floor are very complex

In the early 20th century, there were numerous groundbreaking advances in science. One of the
most important ones was the splitting of the atom or nuclear fission. Physicists realized that fission
could release tremendous amounts of energy in a form of a bomb. With WWII in the horizon, the
U.S. government decided to launch the Manhattan Project, the race to develop the world s first
atomic bomb. The project took about 7 years, approximately $2 billion, and around 130,000
personnel to complete, (Hall, By the Numbers: World War II s atomic bombs ). The eventually
success of the project would change countries around the globe forever. The results of the

Marine Biology Project Is The Great White Shark
The topic I choose for the final marine biology project is the Great White Shark. The reason I
choose this topic is because sharks have always been in the back of my head and would really
like to learn more about them. People are usually scared to go into the ocean at the beach and I
would like to know more about the creature that caused this. The Great White is very important to
Marine Biology and to the marine environments because it is at the top of the food chain. The Great
White does not have any known natural predators other than the Orca Whale. If this sharkbecomes
endangered or goes extinct, the population of the seals, sea lions, and other animals that it often
feeds on would skyrocket. These animals would then eat themselves out, thus changing the whole
ecosystem around them. So basically, the Great White Sharkcannot be removed without the whole
marine ecosystem becoming disturbed and unbalanced. That s why they are now being
protected in a lot of places. Great Whites are carnivorous sharks that grow from 15 to 20 feet
long; their size is relatable to a school bus. They weigh 5,000 pounds or more and they are listed
endangered by the World Wildlife Foundation. They have gray upper bodies to blend in with the
coastal ocean floor below them and they get their name from their universally white underbellies.

speeds up to 15 miles per hour.

Outliers Malcolm Gladwell Essay
I place my beautiful Howarth XL gently back in its case. In the lights it shines brightly, and if
the lights hit it just right, it sparkles and blinds. The Grenadilla wood at first looks flawless and
black in color, yet as one peers closer a rich brown color becomes visible and the wood grains show

Or so I am told. I recently read a book called Outliers: The Story of Success by Malcolm Gladwell.
In it Gladwell tells the stories of successful people and explains how they became successful based
on their circumstances, situations, and cultural legacies. In particular, Gladwell wrote a chapter
about what has become to be known as The 10,000 Hour Rule. This rule states that after 10,000
hours of practice a person, no matter who they are, will be an expert at that skill. Although I agree

Cons Of Flat Tax
A flat tax is known as a tax system that refers to taxes on an household income. It taxes at an
uniform rate, the income level doesn t not play a significant role in it. The United States came up
with a system where high income earners pay taxes at a higher rate than low income earners.
The reason why the flat tax remains a favored idea is because it eliminates double taxation. It
discards the section of the tax code that is biased against the formation of the capital. It also
abolishes capital gains, double taxation of savings and dividends, and death tax. Individuals along
with their families are not enforced to report business related incomes. When dealing with the tax
system, its unnecessary to pay other business tax at the individual ... Show more content on

Low income individuals and families must spend money on the same necessities required by
higher income people. The poorer taxpayers will have a limited amount of money left over to pay
taxes even though its at the same rate of the individuals earning higher income amounts.
Implementing a flat tax system may dismantle the IRS. Many Individuals have a perspective of the
IRS that is in a negative manner. They feel as if the IRS is imposing and intimidating. Although
this establishment employs numerous individuals who were qualified to work in the tax industry,
the IRS employees have a higher risk of losing their jobs under a flat tax system. Many individuals
believe that a flat tax system benefits the rich more than the middle class. They also believe it
reduces the high income individuals taxes. If the rich paid less, many individuals believe that the
government would. If the rich paid less tax, many believe that the government would surrender a
serious amount of revenue. A uniform tax rate treats individuals and corporations adequately, but it
defeats a substitute revenue source, the additional money made by taxing high income earners at a
higher rate for the government. The government does in fact rely heavily on revenue generated
from income

Apush Chapter 3
Chapter 3: The British Atlantic World, 1660 1750
In June 1744, the Iroquois and representatives from Virginia, Maryland, and Pennsylvania met in
Lancaster, Pennsylvania to resolve conflicts and negotiate on agreements. These meetings were
called the Covenant Chain.
At Lancaster, British colonists forced the Iroquois to agree to land agreements, and they also
forced the Iroquois to assist them in a war against the French, to which the Iroquois, like Onondaga
orator Canassatego, were forced to say yes.
Similar to the French and Spanish colonies, the British allied with Native Americans to gain power
in North America. Meanwhile, many Native American groups grouped together in what the British
called tribes in order to counter population decline and have some political power. The colonies
were mostly autonomous and part of the South Atlantic System, which brought them economic
growth.
Colonies to Empire, 1660 1713
England governed its colonies loosely before 1660, but after 1660, when the monarch was brought
back, England tried to reinforce order in the colonies and allied with Native Americans to fight
against other European countries.
The Restoration Colonies and Imperial Expansion

your integrity and show how strong you are!
2. Don t ever try to get in touch and understand the needs which might drive you to sabotage your
relationships.
Trying to understand what might drive you to sabotage your relationships means that you don t
know yourself 100%. It means you don t know who you truly are.
In today s world, where knowledge is power , not knowing who you are is a weakness. You can t
allow yourself to believe and assume you have personal needs you are not aware of which might
drive you to harm your relationships.
There is no reason for you to even consider the possibility that you have needs which cause you to
sabotage your relationships (such as: the need to always be in control which drives your partners
away from you; the need to always get attention and love which makes you too dependent on your
partners; the need to always be right which makes you an unpleasant and

First Amendment Status of Cable TV v. Broadcast
First Amendment Status of Cable TV v. Broadcast
Electronic media content can be viewed differently according to personal opinions, but the First
Amendment Rights of the United States Constitution lay the foundation for the legal system that is
to be followed. These rights form a guide that help citizens have a stronger grasp on what is and isn
t acceptable within the eye of the law. Narrowing down to electronic media content, there has been a
rise of tension involving first amendment rights of content regulations. The spectrum scarcity
rationale has made it possible to control licensing schemes, along with direct content control to
make sure rules are being followed according to the First Amendment. The differences between

The FCC does not license cable TV as a requirement for operating the systems because the
municipal government is the primary regulator. Unlike broadcasting, the cable systems legal rights
can be controlled by cities and countries, or by local governments that franchise cable operators.
Cable systems regulations are less strict, but still come with federal limits on ownership. The Cable
television consumer protection and competition act of 1992 influenced the congress to direct the
FCC to establish two types of limits defining the line between the owner s reach of operation,
horizontal, and the cable operator s integration with content providers, vertical. The horizontal rule
provided cable companies with 30 percent national pay, and no more than 40 percent to the
vertical rule. These rules were tested in the case of Time Warner Entertainment Co. v. FCC as
unconstitutionally arbitrary. The court said, we recognize that in drawing a numerical line an
agency will ultimately indulge in some inescapable residue of arbitrariness... But to pass even the
arbitrary and capricious standard, the agency must at least reveal a rational connection between
the facts found and the choice made (pg. 408, ch. 9, The FCC and Broadcast Licensing).
Broadcasting has a strict regulated radio spectrum, where as cable has no limit on how many
channels can be delivered to a home, nor the amount of cable

Personal Statement Of Purpose For Business Management
Growing up in a business oriented household consisted of being exposed to, and witnessing talks of
business management be it at in house parties or out at dinners from a very young age, which I
believe has impacted my upbringing and passions to a great extent. Along with a substantial
inclination towards Business Management, I also had a keen interest in the field of Accounting,
which I became more aware of at the age of around nine. Most kids resent going to the bank with
their fathers, however, for me, it was always a source of amusement and gratification. As a child,
I would witness my father give cash to the banker and/or vice versa, which would leave me to
ponder about what exactly was going on. This eagerness to have the know how of money and what
goes behind it made me discover my true passion.
Belonging to a science background, what piqued my interest towards the commerce side was
reading various business/economic related magazines that were available to me around the house. I
had always thought that commerce was a field based solely on the concepts of profit and revenue, ...

What further intrigued my interest in the subject itself were the questions related to those every
economic aspect, such as, Why have I not ever come across such principles? Where are these
principles applicable? What would happen if the graph dropped further down? These questions
pushed me to look for answers, and luckily I found answers with the help of Internet, but it was not
just the ending; it was just the beginning as these questions opened doors to new ones, hence the
reason as to why I am strongly motivated in pursuing the field of Management Sciences and/or
Accounting and Finance.

Grey s Anatomy, The Walking Dead And Gossip Girl
What makes tv shows popular. Everyone has heard of Grey s Anatomy , The Walking Dead and
Gossip Girl even if they have never personally seen the show. As an adamant fan of Grey s
Anatomy or Greys according to Mr. Wilden because That is what the cool kids say , I am
personally guilty of binge watching 12 seasons over the course of 6 months. In case you didn t
know that is 279 episodes that are each 45 min long so 12,555 min in the last 183 days were
consumed with by one TV show. But what is it that makes a tv series so widely popular? What
makes someone bing watch 12 season? What do producers to their show to gain a constantly
increasing fan base? Dedicated viewers, those who watch each new episode every week, are the

Fans interact with online outlets that are strictly devoted to the show, such as a website to buy
little onesies on Cafepress.com saying McDreamy in Training , a place to buy SHG coffe ups just
like Dr. Bailey and Jo. A show like Grey s continues to be successful because the fandom
continues to grow and the desire to further the story is publicly expressed in every form of social
media. TGIT stands for Thank God it s Thursday this was formed because new episodes air on
ABC on Thursday. The group of dedicated viewers genuinely anticipate each new season and
episode, showing the the industry was successful of getting the most fan interaction. In the heart
of every teenage girl addicted to Greys, there will always be a special place for Dr. Shepard and Dr.
Sloan, Lexi and even George. Shonda Rhimes was the epitome of the fandom creation. Grey s

Summary Of Driving To The Funeral By Anna Quindlen
The short story Driving to the Funeral by Anna Quindlen discusses about the appropriate age to
start driving. The author starts out by stating that car crashes are the No. 1 cause of death among
15 to 20 year olds in this country. Many teenagers start driving at 16 and that is the reason why
the number of car crashes continue to go up for their age group. Quindlen questions why parents of
16 year olds allow their kids to start drivingright away without giving it much thought. Their
recklessness only leads to missing countless high school memories that last a lifetime. Teenagers
who start driving early are known to break protocols, which is one of the reasons of fatal car
crashes. One protocol is that they are not allowed to carry more

The Environmental Hazards Of The United States
A common sight to a visitor on a beach in the U.S. is garbage that has been pitched by another
person or washed up on the beach, after it has been carelessly thrown away. All the carelessly
disposed of trash eventually accumulates, rather it be in one place, such as a landfill, or in many
places just dispersed and spread out, like litter. In 1997, Captain Charles Moore came across a
large trash deposit, while sailing in his boat, Alguita, in the pacific. What he encountered that
day could only be described as a floating continent of trash, which today has names such as trash
vortex , plastic soup , and Eastern Garbage Patch (Friedman 7 10). The mass of trash is still
present today and is calculated to be twice the size of the U.S., weighing in at around 100
million tons of trash (Friedman 7). This garbage patch is one of the leading growing
environmental hazards of the world today. The trash has been linked to cancer, caused by the
toxins released in the water from the plastics, the killing of seabirds, and the killing of more than a
100,000 marine mammals each year (Friedman 9). This is one of the negative effects human trash
is having on the planet and how people are now turning to recyclingto help resolve problems
similar to this. Today people in the U.S. alone produce 245 million tons of trash a year, which
helps contribute to problems like the trash vortex (Lazarus 13). Recycling would help cut this trash
flow significantly, while having other positive effects, if

The purpose of this shot is to convey to the viewer how much pressure Nina is placing on her body, in particular, her feet. A lot of ballet in danced en pointe (on the tip of a person s toes), this sort of pressure can be detrimental to one s physical well being. A lot of members in the audience will have prior knowledge of how painful and strenuous it can be to place all of your body weight on just your toes, thus reinforcing to the audience the large amount of pressure Nina is forcing upon herself. The audience can also see the scuff marks on the floor, this effectively demonstrates just how much time Nina dedicates to practicing at home. As an audience, we generally know from personal experience and exposure that this is what wood looks like after it has been scratched and used excessively. From this the audience is able to interpret the extent to which this area has been used. • 6. Gender Themes In The Girl In Blue By Ann Rinaldi There is a theme in The Girl in Blue by Ann Rinaldi. The theme is that gender does not affect skill level. The Girl in Blue is set in 1861, and is about a Michigan native by the name of Sarah Louisa. She is about to be forced to marry a man of her abusive father s choice when she decides to run away and join the army. She joins the army under the ruse that she is a boy and participates in the battle of Bull Run but her gender is eventually found out by her doctorand general. She is not punished for her actions but discharged and sent to work as a spy for the Pinkerton agency. She is sent to spy on a southern ally who is under house arrest to find out how she is sending messages to the south. She discovers how and is rewarded with a break. She travels home to find her abusive father had died and her sister is betrothed to the manshe ran from. She leaves to go back to her job as a spy and that is where the story ends. Some of the reasons the theme could be gender not affecting skill level is that first of all the general does not punish her for her actions. Second, she is sent to work as a spy for a job only a womancould do. Lastly, before she even goes to war she has to do all the work for the house instead of her father. When Sarah is discovered as a girl by her doctor and general she is not discharged. This is because she has shown prowess on the battlefield and in the hospital tent as well. On the battlefield, she had the courage to shoot a cavalry officer instead of one of the footmen, and she aimed the shot perfectly at his heart. This shows how she is able to take charge and to stay calm in a hectic situation. She had the peace of mind to get on a knee aim the gun and fire a fatal shot to the heart. furthermore, while in both places she had to hide the fact that she was a girl while surrounded by men. In the hospital she tried not to get sick by taking the bitters which is a medicine to prevent smallpox so she wouldn t be examined by Dr.Hammond, the doctor at that hospital tent. Lastly, she volunteers to go a 5 mile trip through some rebel territory to get morphine for the injured men. A theory suggests that dark matter is what actually makes up a large portion of our universe. Even though we can t detect it, we know dark matter exists because it can interact gravitationally with visible matter and radiation. A professor from New York stated that dark matter plays a large role in causing geological catastrophes as well as mass extinction. `An example of when dark matter played a role in a large catastrophe is the extinction of Dinosaurs 65 million years ago. • 8. Cirque Du Soleil s Current Existing Methods For... To manage new talent and keep it fresh, Cirque Du Soleil needs to reevaluate current existing methods to recruiting new performers. Simply refreshing the current existing method of casting allows for Cirque to get consistent and reliable results without clearing out their bank accounts. An ideal way of refreshing it is to publicize the auditions they currently hold with 20 countries. Instead of holding private sessions like they do now, make it available to the public audience. The venue will be paid for with cheap tickets that Cirque Du Soleilcan sell. Casting talent will not only be up to the casting director(s), but the audience as well since they can influence the decision to cast auditioners by their reaction to their performance. While this won t necessarily yield any immediate profits, it will expand brand recognition, eliminate some of the issues that arise when it comes to casting, and allow Cirque Du Soleil to see the kind of talent and performances that truly resonate with people. AgnГЁs Roux statement supports this best. He states that each performer came to work for the company in a different way. I auditioned in Paris, but some friends have been spotted in competitions, on TV programs or during performances with other companies (Zar, 2013, p. 17). One of the issues that Cirque has when it comes to casting is that lone performers would have a difficult time going through the growing up process with the show and/or being away from family and friends that have ... Sethe s storytelling begins to release the pressure built up inside of her mind, leaking out through each breath in and out. It s described as a way to feed and a substance to thirst for, implying it s necessity when equated to food or drink. The release of her painful emotions are essential to Sethe s recovery, and they are intensely stimulated through synesthesia. By connecting the necessity of food to Sethe s necessity of opening up the coffin of the past, the reader is handed the ability to see how important it is for her to relinquish those stories to not just Beloved, but herself as well. Next, Morrison felt the need to give this quote not one meaning, but two! She begins the quote with, it became a way to feed her , but the her that is referred to can be interpreted ambiguously. The ambivalence of the pronoun her serves the purpose as the storytelling can be construed to feed both Beloved who is curious about Sethe s ghosts and Sethe who appears to find a maturing pleasure in it. This simile, referring to the dead, shows that Roman may subconsciously be aware of what Mang Minno is. After all, vampires are regarded as not being truly alive, but being life forces of the deceased. Mang Minno s eyes are described as glowing (90), when Roman sees him from the boat he is riding with Aurora (Mang Minno s daughter). Mang Minno s attitude is also illustrated by way of the disdainful comments he makes about church: In church, does it ever seem to you a kind of game? Hypocritical. Be humble, they say, yet people come in their best clothes. Give penance, yet as they close their eyes and kneel, they compare who is better dressed, the beauty of someone else s wife, the sway of her hips, they think of anything but prayers. According to the Merriam Webster online dictionary a vaccine is, a preparation of killed microorganisms, living attenuated organisms, or living fully virulent organisms that is administered to produce or artificially increase immunity to a particular disease. Before the invention of vaccines, the immune systemwas left fighting a losing battle against some of mankind s worst enemies, but with the help of vaccines humans have a tool to strengthen their immune system and fight back against these unseen killers. Vaccines defeat deadly viruses, strengthen society, and change lives. Invented by an English physician, Jenner Edwards, in 1796 vaccines have come to defeat many deadly viruses. Through experimentation and hard work, Jenner created the first vaccine for the deadly smallpox virus. Jenner spent much of his life researching and experimenting to find a way to beat smallpox, and in 1796 from the teats of cows Jenner invented the first effective smallpox vaccine. Adolf Hitler And The Holocaust Adolf Hitler, chancellor of Germany from 1933 to 1945 and fГјhrer of Nazi Germany from 1934 to 1945, was the mastermind behind both World War II within Europe and the Holocaust. In the Final Solution, concentration and extermination camps were implemented in an attempt to rid of the Jewish population entirely. Such a task, genocide, would not be done easily. By the end of World War II, over six million Jews had been killed. However, not merely Jews were subject to mass murder, but nearly five million non Jewish people. Out of all of these deaths, a range from 1,885,889 to 2,045,215 were in the concentration camp system. Furthermore, approximately one million of these deaths were carried out within the Auschwitz concentration campcomplex. Thus, one in every six Jews killed during the holocaustwas killed at an Auschwitz camp. These extermination camps were the only means by which such a multitude of murder could have been efficiently accomplished. The systematic mechanization of mass murder, using gas chambers and crematoria, made such high death tolls fathomable, making efficient killing easier both physically and psychologically. The concentration camp system was established well before World War II and the Final Solution. The camps had commonly been constructed in desolate places, free from German jurisdiction. The rate of a males leg raises is a signal of the assets the male has, females that mate with males with quicker leg raises had more progeny and these left the egg sac faster and lived longer. Rypstra et al. wanted to determine if male wolf spiders that differ in assets and quality would behave differently under the risk of predation and wondered if the differences in reactions would affect how females choose their mates. This study consisted of two experiments, in the first experiment they determined that the symmetry of the front legs of males was related to their rate of leg raises, this was used as a measure of male quality. Regression is when one withdraws to former and childish like characteristics. This is portrayed in the character Paul. Rationalization is when one self justifies their actions and usually these actions are bad. An external locus of control is the perception that something outside of one s control determines their fate. The prisoners sentenced to death display this characteristic because they do not try to change their fate and accept that there is nothing they can do. Percy displays a negative self esteem. People with a negative self esteem tend to be judgmental and belittle on others to make themselves feel better. Percy acts this way throughout the entire movie towards the inmates by calling them scum and other negative words. Percy also was prejudice towards John because of his African American heritage and his height considering Percy was a small man. Since John Coffey was an enormous African American, there is a negative stereotype on him from the townspeople. Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Many times it happens that whenever a good team is playing as away team having an opponent that has a strong defense strategy, they are often prone to being pressured by the home team and this might in turn lead to one or two goals, though the good team might end up winning the match but the main objective of the prediction have been achieved. Another good idea is looking for the injury level of the players from both teams and how often they could survive injury on the pitch. A striker or defender who has a long record of injury survived could easily fall into another scene of being injured in a match lasting for over 90minutes. Therefore, if a star striker or defender is injured the chances of that team scoring or defending obviously fall and this in one way or other may lead to achieving the aim of both team scoring. Renewable Resources For Renewable Energy Introduction In the most basic definition, energy is power that is harnessed from physical or chemical resources, often utilized in order to produced light, heat or fuel. It can be extracted from various renewable or non renewable sources and has become a necessity for day to day life. Currently non reusable resources account for the majority of energy production. The prominence of fossil fuels in the energy sector validates this claim. At the same time this statement reveals a major world issue in regards to energy sustainability. Although they may able to produce copious amounts of energy, non renewable resources cannot renew themselves on the timescale required by current energy consumption. With this in mind, non renewable resource depletion is inevitable without sustainable energy alternatives for future generations. At this point it is important to recognize the difficulty of this task given the ever increasing energy consumption associated with exponential population growth. Amongst all nations, Canada is near the forefront of renewable energy; the country is the fourth largest producer of renewable electrical energy despite its 8th place standing in energy consumption. This is undoubtable due to the abundance of natural resources in its geographical location. Currently 17% of total energy production is derived from renewable resources, despite the sector not being fully developed. Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) based three dimensional reconstruction has been used successfully to evaluate the female pelvic floor muscles and tissues in women with and without pelvic floor dysfunction [1, 2]. Furthermore, MR based 3D reconstructed models have been used to generate finite element and element free computational models suitable for simulating vaginal child birth [3, 4], offering insight into risk factors for childbirth related pelvic floorinjury. The Finite Element Method has also been used to evaluate anterior vaginal wall support, and the mechanisms underlying cystocele formation [5]. Precise segmentation of pelvic magnetic resonance images (MRI) is an important step in building the three dimensional (3D) reconstructed structural models suitable for computational analysis. Segmentation consists of outlining each organ or tissue of interest from the underlying grayscale images on each slice in the dataset. The 3D reconstructed models are currently generated from manually segmented label maps, which currently require multiple hours of tedious manual segmentation to produce each reconstructed 3D model. This manual segmentation bottleneck limits the number of computational models that can be reliably produced in a timely manner, thereby limiting the number of study subjects available for the kind of statistical comparisons that can potentially lead to clinically meaningful insight. The Great White is very important to Marine Biology and to the marine environments because it is at the top of the food chain. The Great White does not have any known natural predators other than the Orca Whale.
