INTRODUCTION
Patricia Dunn, placed number 17 on FORBES list of most powerful women, landed herself four felony
counts by making unethically chivalrous decisions.
Patricia Dunn, once a chairwoman on the board of Hewlett Packard, a position she held from February
2005 until September 2006. Her tenure was cut short on October 4, 2006 as she was charged with four
felony counts for her role in a spying scandal. Five months later on March 14, 2007, California
Supreme Court judge Ray Cunningham dropped criminal charges against her in the interest of justice
on all four felony counts: fraudulent use of wire, radio or ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Therefore, her system of ethics judged by its consequences is neither utilitarianism nor that of
deontological reasoning. Patty Dunn should have approached the board from the get go. By not doing
this, she followed a questionable trail of illegal activity
Her utopian dreams of maintaining discretion of HP s goals and even her in house attempt at corralling
the leaker are seemingly understandable. However her tact and failure to use common ethical business
practices will be discussed in detail here.
She had to have at least had an inkling that what she was about to embark upon was sensitive. Not
only sensitive but dangerous! Dangerous in that cautions should always preface any actions involving
personal information. Patricia Dunn is too smart to successfully play dumb.
Utilitarianism reasoning does not care whether the benefits are produced by lies, manipulation, or
coercion. (Issues in Ethics V2 N1 Winter 1989) Patricia Dunn did not use utilitarianism aspects of
information privacy for the employer. Instead it appears they were used more so as her personal
vendetta. Patricia Dunn s case seems to be believable until Felony count #1, overt act #9. Which reads,

Power And Control Issues
Within a person s life there are many instances of major change as well as power and control issues.
These impact on a person in many ways, however it is difficult to choose one instance and state that
due to that event I am now... this is because change occurs gradually and while we are impacted by
events an individual cannot state that all behaviours arose from the one event. The event may have
impacted the person in a significant way and the person s behaviour changed by these behaviours,
however, they were probably re enforced over time and so became their new behaviours (Griekspoor,
2005). Change, according to Mander et al., (2014) is an important factor when working in therapy,
change occurs all the time, clients change week to week, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Generally, clients seek therapy when they are distressed or have been through a traumatic event, the
more distressed or vulnerable they are the more dependent on their therapists they become and the
therapists are seen to be more powerful (Zur, 2005). However, as time goes on whether the therapists
power increases, or perhaps decreases, the clients power increases, giving them more control
(Bannister, 1983; Zur, 2015). A limitation that I noted in myself is that I wasn t assertive enough in the
job, in the beginning I believed what the boss said about my qualifications and just continued on. I
worked to overcome this limitation and believe that I am doing much better with it than I was in the
beginning. This would be a limitation in therapy as it s important to be open as possible and to set
boundaries when working with clients (Hermansson, 1997; Zur,

The Oregon-California Gold Rush
Word eventually got out. On Friday May 12 Sam Brannan brought proof of gold to San Francisco
where he shouted Gold! Gold! Gold from the American River! (60). His motivation for sharing the
news was that he wanted to sell equipment to those who wanted to go on the hunt for gold. Shortly
after this, four thousand people were out looking for gold. Thus, many stores were empty and
newspapers were forced to shut down. The hunt for gold was thought to be a fever Among those who
flocked to the gold were soldiers who abandoned their posts in pursuit of wealth. (61). They were only
making a mere six dollars while some of the gold miners were making over seventy. One soldier even
stated, I had a violent attack of gold fever. (61). The thought of ... Show more content on

The journey to California was extremely difficult. The prices were extraordinary with some boat
tickets costing up to $450. There were also many trails traversed in a manner that lacked hygiene.
Thus, many either faced adversary or simply did not make it. Those who did not make it were most
likely harmed by the poor conditions or disease such as cholera along the Overland Trail in 1849. Out
of all the trails, the Oregon California Trial still proved the most popular overland route (66). It was
estimated that over 100,000 travelers had used said trail by 1851. With the news of gold spreading,
many young Asians left to pursue gold. Manny Europeans also made their journey to California.
Between the years of 1847 and 1851, Irish immigration more than doubled. California quickly became
a melting pot of many races including: blacks, Hawaiians, Peruvians, Germans, Mexicans, and the
Chinese. Due to the many races represented in California, there were also many languages and
cultures. On February 2, 1848, in a 15 million dollar cash deal, the Treaty of Guadalupe Hidalgo was
signed which added the land that Texas, New Mexico, Arizona, Colorado, Nevada, and California
occupy to the United States. The expansion in land lead to expansion in other ways as well. In 1851, a
survey showed 537 liquor stores, 46 gambling houses, and 48 houses of prostitution (69). One can
clearly see there was a lot of money to be made. With so much money on the line, people found ways
to maximize their profits. With the same spirit, the Anglos forced many people from the mines with
violent threats. They would then tax those who remained. This tax was in the form of a sixteen dollar a
month foreign miner s tax. In an effort to make even more money, ...the California legislature enacted
another foreign miner s tax aimed specifically at the Chinese... (70).

The Field Of Information Retrieval And Web Analysis
ABSTRACT
Opinions play a crucial role in the decision making process. Analysis in the field of making decisions
and setting policies has shown that sentiment analysis and Opinion mining has become increasingly
important in the field of Information Retrieval and Web analysis. In the past years, the growth of user
generated data in web forums, social networking sites and other social platforms is tremendous, which
diverts our study towards mining the opinions on web. In this paper, we have presented a novel
methodology to classify the tweets and the complete opinion mining system is explained on the basis
of survey and analysis. A flowchart has been proposed in which the overall picture of classification of
twitter data has been proposed and accuracy of the evaluation strategies by various supervised
learning algorithms has been evaluated. Review data is collected for various product domains from
micro blogging sites like twitter, face book.

1. INTRODUCTION
In recent years, we have witnessed that a huge amount of opinionated text is available which have
greatly influenced our social and political systems. Twitter messages posted online is about 250
millions per day which forces the organizations to observe their status and brands by extracting and
analyzing the sentiments of the tweets shared online. To keep track of products and brands on the basis
of their positive or negative views can be done

Natural History Museum s Eternal Life In Ancient Egypt
Over the weekend, I chose to examine and analyze the Natural History Museum s exhibit Eternal Life
in Ancient Egypt . The exhibit contained many artifacts and visual representations of what and why
Egyptians performed mummification. Whilst visually entertaining and generally informative, there did
not seem to be a discussion of multiple interpretations on the significance for each object. The
speculative nature of these statements coupled with an often lacking of archaeological evidence
backing up these claims created more questions than answers. However, the exhibit did a great job
describing and informing of the science required for the analysis as well as informative background
explanations for these artifacts. With clear and concise details ... Show more content on

With a mummified boy on display, the exhibit explains that the embalmers preserved the body by
shrouding it in a sheet of linen instead of elaborate layers of fabric strips meaning that this is a
commoner s body (Smithsonian). The captions also state that the placement of the arms and chin on
chest reflect mummification practices from about 2,000 years ago (Smithsonian). Accompanied by
images showing the process of unraveling the boy mummy, this section of the exhibit successfully
explains social hierarchy in Egypt and the mummification procedure in an informative manner. The
exhibit also informs how advances in radiographic imaging allow for scientists to analyze mummies
without damaging their fragile remains or wrappings (Smithsonian). Again, images of the radiographs
and processes of attaining them accompany this statement which contains valuable information since
it is always important to know how the museum and scientists preserve the artifacts whilst gaining

Rhetorical Analysis Of Lou Gehrig s Speech To Baseball
Seventy three years ago, on July 4th, a man whose skillset lied on the baseball field, much rather than
in speechmaking, delivered one of the most effective and inspiring speeches of all time. His name was
Lou Gehrig, and in the matter of approximately two minutes, he managed to reflect not only his own
thoughts of his disease and retirement from baseball, but also the thoughts and mindsets of his fans
and the American people during the 1930s. Lou Gehrig s farewell speech, famously including the
aforementioned quote, drew upon many rhetorical strategies in order to convey themes and emotions
that, especially during the time period, were extremely important to his fans and all people. Gehrig
heavily utilized ethos and pathos to argue his point, and it was these two rhetorical appeals combined
that allowed him to establish himself as a humble and thankful man who considered himself nothing
but lucky to have been given the opportunities in life that he had been given. The backdrop of Lou
Gehrig s speech is extremely important in considering why his speech was so rhetorically effective. As
mentioned previously, the speech was delivered seventy three years ago, in 1939. At this time, the
country was slowly recovering from the Great Depression and war was imminent in Europe. It was a
testing time for the American people, so just to relax and enjoy themselves, people went to baseball
games. People looked up to these baseball players and it was through them that they could get

Literary Analysis Of Pablo Picasso s Guernica

English 101

Picasso s Guernica Throughout time paintings have been used to record events, communicate ideas or
evoke an emotional response. Pablo Picasso s painting Guernica does just this. Guernica was created
to bring attention to the Nazi bombing of the town of Guernica, Spain during the Spanish civil war in
the second half of the 1930s. Its exhibition was used to provide relief and a call against the horrors of
war. Through its visual elements and symbolic concepts, Guernica depicts the chaos and aftermath of
the bombing of the city and the need to bring about change over the tragedies of war. Standing at a
massive seven feet by twenty five feet, this black and white painting depicts a massacre of the
bombing of the town of Guernica. The composition of the work is a dimly lit space, the only light
coming from an eye shaped light at center top of the painting and a woman holding a lantern next to it.
From left to right, the scene contains a screaming bull beneath it a woman holding a dead child. In the
center there is a mangled horse pierced by spear and below it, the mangled body of a fallen soldier. To
the right are three women, one crawling towards the light, above her is a woman leaning out of a
window holding a lit lantern and the other screaming while falling from a burning building. Guernica
captures the brutal chaos of the bombing with its physical action and intended symbolism. Being black
and white, the painting represents the somber

The Parting And Love s Last Lesson Comparison
Paying particular attention to the ambiguous representation of love/death, compare and contrast
Michael Drayton s The Parting (c. 1593), Lord Byron s When We Two Parted (1815) and Letitia
Elizabeth Landon s Love s Last Lesson (c.1838) in relation to poetic features, function and effect.
Paying attention to the ambiguous representation of love and death, this essay will compare and
contrast Michael Drayton s The Parting (c. 1593), Lord Byron s When We Two Parted (1815), and
Letitia Elizabeth Landon s Love s Last Lesson (c. 1838) in relation to poetic features, function, and

the Twentieth Century has come to regard ambiguity in poetry as one of its most characteristic and
valuable features (Furniss Bath, 1996: 207). The literal definition of ambiguous is having more than
one meaning, open to more than one interpretation (Concise Oxford English Dictionary, Oxford
University Press, 2011, p40). Ambiguity in poetry is viewed as an important and an effective feature
by literary critics and poets everywhere, with William Empson stating: The machinations of ambiguity
are among the very roots of poetry (Empson, William, Seven Types of Ambiguity, 1930).
An elegy is a poem that laments the death, and love poetry can be about a romantic relationship
whether it is ongoing or has ended. In relation to heartbreak, emotions or strategies used to convey

When I heard I had to take statistics I was ready to quit going back to school because everyone that
had taken it years ago always told me how hard it was. So, when I became a student in my late
blooming years saw that I had to take statistics I freaked out and was well on my way of quitting.
Every time I would see I was scheduled to take the class I would change my schedule. Then I actually
started the class and dropped it. Well, as you can see I am in the fifth week and writing this paper. I
struggled this whole time with the homework assignments until I hired a tutor because I could not out
this class off again. I have actually did pretty well when I changed my mind set on how I thought
about the class and did indeed learn how to work excel, and do the assignments. Biostatistics allows

Nursing Shortage Essay
Have you ever thought about the role a nurse has between his or her client? A nurse s role is more than
just helping clients when they are not feeling well. In 2007 there were a reportedly 12 million nurse s
employed (Bureau of Labor Statistics, 2009). That is a large amount of nurse s that are employed in
the world. A nurse protects, promotes, optimizes health and ability, prevents illness or injury, alleviates
suffering through treatment and diagnosis of human response, and advocates in the care of individuals,

Some believe it is because of retirement. The Toronto Star reported in 2001 that 14,000 of their 81,000
nurses were due to retire by 2004 (Honor Society of Nursing, 2001). The huge shortage of nurses has
had an impact on patient care (Rosseter, 2011). They would need more graduating nurses to fill those
open positions. There are several hospitals, long term care facilities, and home health agencies with
multiple jobs open due to the shortage of nurses (Honor Society of Nursing, 2001). Experts also
believe that nurses are enrolling into school at an older age averaging at 31 year age opposed to 18
years of age (Honor Society of Nursing, 2001). Some jobs are even offering a sign on bonus so they
can fill these open positions. To new graduating nurse s this can be a good incentive since the medical
field is competitive. Rachel Gotbaum did an interview on nursing shortage in 2007. There were
multiple interviews with health care professionals through her interviews she found that In the next
decade 80 million people will retire. She has stated that since health care changes constantly that
nurses need to continue their education no matter how old or how many years they have been in the
medical field. When medicine is involved you should always be up to date on the latest technology
and diagnosis. Nurses may become suddenly ill or injured were they are no longer able to give care
anymore. You can never plan if an

Superstitions In Asian American Culture
In the dictionary, the definition for superstation is states as, a widely held but unjustified belief in
supernatural causation leading to certain consequences of an action or event, or a practice based on
such a belief. In my opinion I believe superstitions are beliefs or legends passed down over time that
been carried by your past ancestors. Every culture is different, so everyone s beliefs are different as
well. But there are some cultures that have common superstitions. Some superstitions are very hard to
believe, and some that are very understandable. Superstations can be divided in different subtopics.
Asian Americans have general superstitions that they do on a daily schedule. Dreams are a form of
superstitions for the reason that certain items or events you dream of have a certain meaning behind it.
There are different ways of receiving good luck and that is another type of superstations because as an
individual you believe by doing certain things you will receive good luck. Superstations can be
general believes, dreams, and forms of good luck. Superstitions are passed down in your family line,
to create certain beliefs within your culture. Every community has different believes. For example

What Is The Obligation To Endure
In the story The Obligation to Endure you may ask yourself, how do we live with each other and with

Pros And Cons Of A Just War
Can participating in war ever be morally acceptable? Many people in history have asked this question
and attempted to answered it. This has resulted in different theories and opinions on the topic, the
most widely known being Just War position. It explains when a country should go to war, why they
should go to war, and what they should be permitted to do during wartime (Demy). Many wars in
history have show the devastation that man s cruelty to one another can cause. The best example of
this is World War 2, in which many millions of people were killed. Many atrocities were committed
during the war, the worst, of course, was the holocaust. Had all sides to this war followed the Just War

Juvenile Delinquency in the 1950s
Why did juvenile delinquency occur in the 1950s and what precautions were taken to prevent it?
(Project Summary)
This project will focus on the British criminal justice system in the 1950s regarding juvenile
behaviour. The research will explore the ways used to prevent juvenile crime, the social and
psychological motivation for crime, and the way that the criminal justice system aimed to rehabilitate
those convicted of a juvenile offence. To explore these areas an understanding of delinquency, and its
consequences is needed. According to Wirt and Briggs delinquency involves personal suffering as well
as a loss to society. 1 This suggests that juveniles are not mindfully delinquent as their actions have

Modern Records Centre Practicalities
On Wednesday 6th March I contacted the Modern Records Centre via e mail regarding the documents
I would like to view. I found this relatively straight forward with the pre prepared catalogue for the
making history project and the database section on juvenile delinquents in the 1950s. I asked to see ten
files that I later discovered contained various documents. This made my task a little harder as there
was more material to read. However, in hindsight this helped to gain an overview for the task ahead. I
photographed the documents most relevant to my research for further analysis at home, whilst
considering maintaining a balance of newspaper articles, photographs and texts. Practically this
enabled me to progress with the project without being restricted to the Modern Records Centre. I also
gave great importance to recording the origin of any information, making a note of the reference codes
for consideration later within the project.
I now feel more confident using archives and I would be comfortable pursuing future research with
the involvement of the archive.

Implementing An Improved Management Process
Create an Innovation Being a part of a family business that has been running for a twenty years helped
me evaluate their overall performance. Some internal processes and strategies are apparent, but also
need improvement. After learning all the different methods to innovate in this course the decision to
find a specific area of improvement in the organization was easy to find. Furthermore, implementing
an improved management process will definitely improve the company s overall performance and
work efficiency.
Describe the problem your innovation targets. What is the scope of the problem and which
stakeholders, both within the organization and without, does it impact?
The problem about this innovation is it can create conflict within the employees because this will be a
major change to them. Change is difficult and when it comes to innovating in a business that has been
working the same way for twenty years it can become difficult. It is important to consider the scope of
the problem, is it too broad or is it nonrealistic. In this organization the stakeholders involved and that
will be affected are the employees, and the suppliers. This innovation entails for the stakeholder to
understand the importance of defining their roles, decision power, and commitment for the innovation
plan (Deschamps, 2013).

Learning A New Language Essay
In life, I have gone through challenges that have taught me new things. In recent years, I have been
learning to understand a new language: Korean. Korean is an Asian language that is spoken in Korea.
It has different dialects such as the Gyeongsang dialect, Jeolla dialect, Chungcheong dialect, Gyeonggi
dialect, Chejuan dialect, Hamgyong dialect, Hwanghae dialect, and the standard Korean. Learning this
new language and its dialects were very difficult for me because not many people know how to speak
Korean in the region where I live. Although this does cause a minor inconvenience towards my
education, I still strive to perfect and enhance the current skill that I ve taught myself. As a child, I was
taught by my parents how to speak Spanish, as do most other children that make up my school s
population. Since I was only taught Spanish for the first few years of my life, I had to learn English in
my primary school years through my teacher. Learning the new language was not as hard as I had
expected because I would frequently hear it when my mother would talk to her friends. Therefore,
learning English came naturally, I was not forced. Up until recently, I have only understood English
and Spanish, so I decided to get myself busy and start learning a new language, Korean. I was very
motivated to learn Korean because I started watching Korean dramas and I wanted to read a book in
Korean. When I told my mom about my plan to learn Korean, she motivated me quite a lot that I felt

Planning Stage Of A Project Essay
The main portion of the planning stage of a project is establishing the activities that are necessary to
complete the endeavor and defining the resources. This segment of the planning process is crucial in
refining the manner in which the work will be completed, as well as delineating the time, resources,
and cost of the undertaking. A project manager also designs the system that will be utilized to
communicate, monitor, and maintain the project. By creating the activity, communication, and
resource structures, a project manager can effectively direct and supervise the execution of an
endeavor and increase the chances of a successful outcome.
Work Breakdown Structure
After the project scope and charter are established, the next part of the planning phase of the endeavor
is to create the work breakdown structure (WBS). The WBS is a process that breaks down the project
work and deliverables into more controllable components within a hierarchical structured format
(PMI, 2013). The elements that are listed at the lowest levels of the WBS are the work packages and
can be applied to the activities that are scheduled, valued, monitored and controlled (PMI, 2013).
Through this process, a project manager can distinguish the components that will be needed for the
endeavor, and have a structured plan to effectively monitor and control the undertaking.
One of the techniques that are applied to the creation of the WBS is decomposition. The process of
decomposition it the methodology

Masculinity And Style In Hemingway And Carver
Masculinity and Style in Hemingway and Carver. The following will present the themes of
masculinity in relation to style in Raymond Carver and Ernest Hemingway. Both are major figures of
20th century US fiction, and both write about characters that struggle with male or masculine identity
and social expectations. These struggles often mean that other characters in their stories are the
victims. In other words, the problems that the characters experience, are both internalized but also
externalized toward others and this will be examined with specific author selections. It will be argued
in the following that there is a minimalism recognized at many levels of the style for both authors, but
this essay will explore the minimal ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
There is workplace degradation that happens to male characters in Carver stories, and these characters
are in turn, viewed as expressing these personal frustrations on those around them (Hall 177).
Hemingway wrote extensively about a character that will be examined in the following named Nick
Adams, and their own biographical parallel is a First World War experience that results in a dynamic
that gets played over and over. The character of Nick Adams like the figure of Hemingway, had to
return to a world after a shattering emotional war experience, and a good dimension of that world is
defined by the male expectations of it. The following will examine the theme of masculinity in
relation to style using two specific RC short stories. Cathedral and Why Don t you dance? are very
similar in structure and are useful for comparison. Both characters involve the dynamic of a couple
with a challenged relationship who encounter another male. In both stories, it is a younger couple, and
in both stories, the older male is partially defined by some eccentric and important features. In
Cathedral , the blind friend of a wife and her husband meet for the first time and there is a tension
between the couple over a few differences of expectations. In Why Don t you dance? , a young couple
walking along together encounter an older man who has

Narrative Essay On Study With Children
Studying With Children!
When people think of starting over, a lot of different things come to mind. Starting over could be
simply going back to the drawing board in a business venture, rewriting an English paper, or
rearranging your life. Even rearranging your life can be from many different aspects. Alcoholics need
to start over. Gamblers need to start over. Divorced people need to make a new start as well. In which
direction does starting over take you?
Starting over for me first of all meant finding a way to keep up with all of the payments a married

Self esteem plays another important factor. You keep hearing his voice taunting, You ll never make it

Theme Of Too Much Happiness By Alice Munro
Women throughout the world and in all ages have been the subject of many literary works written in
different literary genres. Lots of literary critics have argued over the role and the status of women in
the world and their self recognition of their economic, social, political, literary, cultural and familial
position in literary works. Thus, women have been the important analytical issue since the dawn of
literature and whatever role they had, they were included in literary works as well as literary canons.
The motif of woman is a universal issue; her oppression, her self entanglement, her self recognition,
her role in society and also in the family, her relation to art, science and nature. All these issues have

ANALYSIS OF ALCE MUNRO S SHORT STORIES
The short story collection of Lives of Girls and Women includes eight chapters through which Munro
goes through the details of women s ordinary life and makes this ordinariness extra ordinary to
confirm that a woman can reach mental maturity through the observation of other women around her
and her vital experience of the events. Munro embedded this fact in the protagonist Del who gains
maturity at the end and becomes a creative writer.
Through the observation of her mother (Addie) who reads a lot and sells encyclopedias, Del finds out
that she behaves like a clown and just pretends to be an intellectual. So she doesn t like her mother s
so much enthusiasm, excitement, aggressiveness and showing off as an intellectual. Women should be
equal to men in the way of acquiring knowledge of the world and books but the way her mother shows
off is not desirable both to Del and to people around her.
Her marginalization as someone not to be listened to or respected is presented as a psychological
danger that accompanies maternity. Her autonomy is also undercut by her daughter s perception of her
as someone who brings derision upon herself (Gault, 2006). In addition, Gualt examines Addie s sense
of intellectuality in this

Similarities Between Greek And Roman Hygiene
Another controversial topic were their views on hygiene. The Greeks and Romans had many similar
ideas regarding hygiene while the Europeans during the Middle Ages had different views regarding
hygiene. The Greeks did not have running water but they understood what hygiene was and were
aware of staying clean and healthy. The Romans however, were very advanced in trying to stay clean.
They invented the aqueduct to carry water from far away lands. They took pride in having running hot
water. To them, being clean was a sign of superiority. Everybody stayed clean and bathed frequently in
public baths. The Middle Ages, however, was the complete opposite compared to the Greeks and
Romans. They cared very little about hygiene and did not shower regularly.

The World Is The Best
As time elapses, ideas, thoughts, and view of the world tend to modify. I assume that the literature that
is present from hundred years ago until now, displays a shift of religion to nature. Religion used to be
the basis for most of the things, but as new ideas approached, nature began to replace it. Not implying
that nature completely replaced religion, but it became a new way to understand the world. I believe
there is always going to be a debate on which way to understand the world is the best. Religious
people would argue that the bible is the guide for lives and the way to control the world, but on the
other hand, science also tries to explain this idea. William Bradford, from 1590 to 1657, on his writing

How would it pleased God to see a person die in a desperate manner even if they had sin? God gives
us life and would pardon our sins if we seek for him. However, I believe the puritans, including
Bradford, felt that there was no option of forgiveness. According to what I have read in Bradford s
story, I would say that religion could make someone selfish. I am not against religion, but this is what
I conclude based on this literature. I feel this way because it seems that they just think for themselves.
They believe they are perfect and that anyone else is evil. I feel that being a religious person, should
not make them feel superior like the puritans did. I believe that in God s eye we are all the same, but
the puritans saw the Native Americans as savages and not pure. An example of this is in the first
encounter the puritans had with the so called savages. Thus it pleased God to vanquish their
enemies...and by his special providence so to dispose that not any of them were either hurt or hit...
(79) In my point of view, here is a clear example of how they are being selfish. They are just worried
about them not being hurt, but what about the savages? I feel that religion means caring for everyone,
but here I see the opposite of that. Again, how God would be pleased by an

Resolving conflict is a management strategy where businesses should learn to study and practice
conflict management skills to keep up a positive work environment (Reina, 2010).
Hitchcock Verheij (2006) stated that the Toulmin Model of Argumentation declares that most of the
arguments involve the following six elements:
1. Claim
2. Grounds
3. Warrant: A warrant connects the information with the grounds in response to the claim, which
legitimize the claim by depicting the grounds to be significant. The warrant answers the claim
question whether it is true or not
4. Backing: Backing (or support) for an argument gives additional support to the warrant by answering
different questions.
5. Qualifiers and reservations: the qualifier (or modal qualifier) indicates the strength of the leap from
the data to the warrant and may limit how universally the claim applies.
6. Rebuttal
Arguments in the workplace can be tricky yet there is a technique to solve them. Arguments can be
analyzed effectively by the use of the Toulmin Model of Argumentation.

The purpose of psychoeducation is to legitimize the traumatic reaction, to help the client develop a

client repeatedly, in a systematic manner, relive the memories of the traumatic event over an extended
period of time (Foa, Dancu, Hembree, Jaycox, Meadows, Street, 1999; Foa Rauch, 2004; Harvey,
Bryant, Tarrier, 2003). In prolonged exposure, the client is expected to (a) vividly call to mind the

Siddhartha Summary
At the beginning of the last section of Siddhartha by Hermann Hesse, Siddhartha has previously left
his lover, town, money, and has come to the river. At the river, he has transformed into a person with
new mindsets, behaviors, feelings, and senses. Having resolved to live a new life by the river,
Siddhartha runs into a friendly ferryman named Vasudeva, who has also helped him cross the river 20
years ago. Siddhartha expresses his will to become Vasudeva s apprentice and learn deeply from the
river. With the influence of the ferryman, Siddhartha is able to obtain his ultimate, spiritual
enlightenment and gain peace, wisdom, and patience which he has been aiming for. The river teaches
Siddhartha and gives him several realizations which leads to his great awakening. He first discovers
the true concept of time and timelessness by listening to the river: life is unified by being in all places
at one time and time does not exist. His belief states that time is an illusion, and past, present, and
future are all a one thing. He sees the world similar to a river, because every moment, including the
childhood, early adulthood, and late adulthood is separated by shadows not by reality. Siddhartha tries
to listen to the voices of the river and by the end, he feels extremely absorbed and listens perfectly.
Eventually, the voices come to him into just a single concept of Om , in which signifies the oneness
and the unity of all things. Now each sense of voice, river, and word is likened to another sense, so
that Siddhartha s experience is at once diverse and unified. This Om perfection is only achieved
through the pursuit of experience and life and through the understanding of the world. These are what
Siddhartha realizes when he finally achieves Nirvana. In Siddhartha, the ferryman is an example of an
archetype called the wise counselor/ mentor, specifically the Shaman. The wise counselor is someone
who s older, dedicated to good, has the wisdom of experience, knows secrets, and advises the hero.
Mentors represent the Self and are the aspect of personality that is connected with all things. The
ferryman, Vasudeva, has shown similar qualities that links to the success of the main character,
Siddhartha. First of

The Milroys then analysed phonological variables (in this case /a/ and /ɛ/) in relation to the network
structures and the individual speaker s degree of integration into a network.
Firstly, they found that in Ballymacarrett, the innovative backing of /a/ is associated with men and the
Belfast vernacular, while the traditional front /a/ functions as a network marker for women. In
contrast, the innovative raised variants of /ɛ/ are associated with women and more prestigious outer
city speech, while the traditional low /ɛ/ functions as a network marker for men. Furthermore,
although the /a/ backing innovation is generally led by East Belfast males, the backing of /a/ among
the young Clonard women is unusually high. The Milroys concluded that while working in a city
centre shop, the Clonard women have weak tie encounters with customers who use the back /a/
innovation, and they then subsequently adopt this innovation in their own speech. For the Milroys, this
supports the idea that linguistic innovations are diffused via weak tie connections, where the true
innovators are connected to the early adopters via weak tie connections.
Secondly, the Milroys observe that Icelandic has changed relatively over the centuries in comparison
with English. Using evidence from the Icelandic sagas, they argue that the strong importance attached

How Did The Great Leap Forward And The Cultural Revolution
The research engages with the Great Leap Forward and the Cultural Revolution, two significant and
defining events in Chinese history since the establishment of the People s Republic of China. The
Great Leap Forward (1957 60) was a Chinese economic plan initiated by Mao Zedong aimed at
revitalizing all sectors of the economy. Wildly unrealistic planning poorly planned communization of
agriculture, and a poor harvest in 1959 caused mass starvation. Mao was forced to turn government
administration over to Liu Shaoqi and Deng Xiaoping. His popularity diminished severely and thus
launched the Great Proletarian Cultural Revolution to regain his popularity.
The Cultural Revolution (1966 76) was the mass mobilization of urban Chinese youth inaugurated by

January 11 (Chua, 2011a), and a few days before, on the January 8, she posted an article on The Wall
Street Journal, titling Why Chinese Mothers Are Superior (Chua, 2011b). In the article, Amy Chua has
compared the Western parenting style to the Chinese parenting style, and in her words, Western
parents usually don t come close to being Chinese mothers (Chua, 2011b, para. 4). But is there a need
for a hierarchy for the different parenting styles? What is the difference between parenting styles and
practices? These, will be discussed in the remaining of the essay.
In the article, Amy Chua has highlighted two different kind of parenting styles: ... Show more content

Parenting styles have little or no effect on the child; instead, it is the parenting practices that affect the
child. Even though children might adopt the same parenting styles as their parents in the near future, it
cannot be inferred as the best parenting style, but instead as a learnt behavior (Belkin, 2009).

Artemis Vs Amaterasu Essay
Amaterasu and Artemis are two gods that unsurprisingly enough are vastly different. What I found
though was it was not what power they held that made them different, but the culture that surrounded
them. That the birth of two goddesses could divide how one is closer to us humans than the other. Of

power. Last of all, how the nature of what symbolizes a god how we perceive her.
In discussing the two goddesses I find that is important to look back their conception and how they
were brought into being comes to affect our understanding from a theological standpoint. As with
most gods in ancient myth, the birth of the two is unusual but for two very different reasons. Starting
with Artemis it should be noted that she actually does have parents, in this case, Zeus and Leto. Her
birth on the island of Delos where she was able to act as midwife for her brother Apollo. Now, what s
interesting here is that besides for Leto s prolonged pregnancy that was brought forth by Hera is that
Artemis s birth is very human. It s the act of acting as a midwife that allows her to be the virgin
goddess that helps in ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
She is noted as being as powerful a figure as her brother and most importantly her chastity she s so
well known for is something she has to ask Zeus for. Give me to keep my maidenhood a statement that
shows without this Artemis loses the chastity that she is so known for. Ultimately, Artemis is unlike
Amaterasu who seems above most gods beneath. She is below Zeus and therefore below a man in the
pantheon. What sets her apart and keeps her from being a goddess just of harvest or more stereotypical
female things are again items she had to ask of Zeus. She asked for her bow and famous hunting
clothes and while they were a form of a gift they re a not a gift

Explain the Utilitarian amp; Deontological aspects of informational privacy for employers amp; employees INTRODUCTION Patricia Dunn, placed number 17 on FORBES list of most powerful women, landed herself four felony counts by making unethically chivalrous decisions. Patricia Dunn, once a chairwoman on the board of Hewlett Packard, a position she held from February 2005 until September 2006. Her tenure was cut short on October 4, 2006 as she was charged with four felony counts for her role in a spying scandal. Five months later on March 14, 2007, California Supreme Court judge Ray Cunningham dropped criminal charges against her in the interest of justice on all four felony counts: fraudulent use of wire, radio or ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Therefore, her system of ethics judged by its consequences is neither utilitarianism nor that of deontological reasoning. Patty Dunn should have approached the board from the get go. By not doing this, she followed a questionable trail of illegal activity Her utopian dreams of maintaining discretion of HP s goals and even her in house attempt at corralling the leaker are seemingly understandable. However her tact and failure to use common ethical business practices will be discussed in detail here. She had to have at least had an inkling that what she was about to embark upon was sensitive. Not only sensitive but dangerous! Dangerous in that cautions should always preface any actions involving personal information. Patricia Dunn is too smart to successfully play dumb. Utilitarianism reasoning does not care whether the benefits are produced by lies, manipulation, or coercion. (Issues in Ethics V2 N1 Winter 1989) Patricia Dunn did not use utilitarianism aspects of information privacy for the employer. Instead it appears they were used more so as her personal vendetta. Patricia Dunn s case seems to be believable until Felony count #1, overt act #9. • 3. Power And Control Issues Within a person s life there are many instances of major change as well as power and control issues. These impact on a person in many ways, however it is difficult to choose one instance and state that due to that event I am now... this is because change occurs gradually and while we are impacted by events an individual cannot state that all behaviours arose from the one event. The event may have impacted the person in a significant way and the person s behaviour changed by these behaviours, however, they were probably re enforced over time and so became their new behaviours (Griekspoor, 2005). Change, according to Mander et al., (2014) is an important factor when working in therapy, change occurs all the time, clients change week to week, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Generally, clients seek therapy when they are distressed or have been through a traumatic event, the more distressed or vulnerable they are the more dependent on their therapists they become and the therapists are seen to be more powerful (Zur, 2005). However, as time goes on whether the therapists power increases, or perhaps decreases, the clients power increases, giving them more control (Bannister, 1983; Zur, 2015). A limitation that I noted in myself is that I wasn t assertive enough in the job, in the beginning I believed what the boss said about my qualifications and just continued on. I worked to overcome this limitation and believe that I am doing much better with it than I was in the beginning. This would be a limitation in therapy as it s important to be open as possible and to set boundaries when working with clients (Hermansson, 1997; Zur, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

His motivation for sharing the news was that he wanted to sell equipment to those who wanted to go on the hunt for gold. Shortly after this, four thousand people were out looking for gold. Thus, many stores were empty and newspapers were forced to shut down. The hunt for gold was thought to be a fever Among those who flocked to the gold were soldiers who abandoned their posts in pursuit of wealth. (61). The exhibit contained many artifacts and visual representations of what and why Egyptians performed mummification. Rhetorical Analysis Of Lou Gehrig s Speech To Baseball Seventy three years ago, on July 4th, a man whose skillset lied on the baseball field, much rather than in speechmaking, delivered one of the most effective and inspiring speeches of all time. His name was Lou Gehrig, and in the matter of approximately two minutes, he managed to reflect not only his own thoughts of his disease and retirement from baseball, but also the thoughts and mindsets of his fans and the American people during the 1930s. Lou Gehrig s farewell speech, famously including the aforementioned quote, drew upon many rhetorical strategies in order to convey themes and emotions that, especially during the time period, were extremely important to his fans and all people. Gehrig heavily utilized ethos and pathos to argue his point, and it was these two rhetorical appeals combined that allowed him to establish himself as a humble and thankful man who considered himself nothing but lucky to have been given the opportunities in life that he had been given. The backdrop of Lou Gehrig s speech is extremely important in considering why his speech was so rhetorically effective. As mentioned previously, the speech was delivered seventy three years ago, in 1939. At this time, the country was slowly recovering from the Great Depression and war was imminent in Europe. Literary Analysis Of Pablo Picasso s Guernica Julius Byla Hake English 101 10/22/17 Picasso s Guernica Throughout time paintings have been used to record events, communicate ideas or evoke an emotional response. Pablo Picasso s painting Guernica does just this. Guernica was created to bring attention to the Nazi bombing of the town of Guernica, Spain during the Spanish civil war in the second half of the 1930s. Its exhibition was used to provide relief and a call against the horrors of war. Through its visual elements and symbolic concepts, Guernica depicts the chaos and aftermath of the bombing of the city and the need to bring about change over the tragedies of war. Standing at a massive seven feet by twenty five feet, this black and white painting depicts a massacre of the bombing of the town of Guernica. The composition of the work is a dimly lit space, the only light coming from an eye shaped light at center top of the painting and a woman holding a lantern next to it. From left to right, the scene contains a screaming bull beneath it a woman holding a dead child. In the center there is a mangled horse pierced by spear and below it, the mangled body of a fallen soldier. To the right are three women, one crawling towards the light, above her is a woman leaning out of a window holding a lit lantern and the other screaming while falling from a burning building. Guernica captures the brutal chaos of the bombing with its physical action and intended symbolism. Being black and white, the painting represents the somber ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Lots of literary critics have argued over the role and the status of women in the world and their self recognition of their economic, social, political, literary, cultural and familial position in literary works. Thus, women have been the important analytical issue since the dawn of literature and whatever role they had, they were included in literary works as well as literary canons. The motif of woman is a universal issue; her oppression, her self entanglement, her self recognition, her role in society and also in the family, her relation to art, science and nature. ANALYSIS OF ALCE MUNRO S SHORT STORIES The short story collection of Lives of Girls and Women includes eight chapters through which Munro goes through the details of women s ordinary life and makes this ordinariness extra ordinary to confirm that a woman can reach mental maturity through the observation of other women around her and her vital experience of the events. Munro embedded this fact in the protagonist Del who gains maturity at the end and becomes a creative writer. Through the observation of her mother (Addie) who reads a lot and sells encyclopedias, Del finds out that she behaves like a clown and just pretends to be an intellectual. So she doesn t like her mother s so much enthusiasm, excitement, aggressiveness and showing off as an intellectual. Women should be equal to men in the way of acquiring knowledge of the world and books but the way her mother shows off is not desirable both to Del and to people around her. Her marginalization as someone not to be listened to or respected is presented as a psychological danger that accompanies maternity. Her autonomy is also undercut by her daughter s perception of her as someone who brings derision upon herself (Gault, 2006). In addition, Gualt examines Addie s sense of intellectuality in this ... I assume that the literature that is present from hundred years ago until now, displays a shift of religion to nature. Religion used to be the basis for most of the things, but as new ideas approached, nature began to replace it. Not implying that nature completely replaced religion, but it became a new way to understand the world. I believe there is always going to be a debate on which way to understand the world is the best. According to what I have read in Bradford s story, I would say that religion could make someone selfish. I am not against religion, but this is what I conclude based on this literature. I feel this way because it seems that they just think for themselves. They believe they are perfect and that anyone else is evil. I feel that being a religious person, should not make them feel superior like the puritans did. I believe that in God s eye we are all the same, but the puritans saw the Native Americans as savages and not pure. An example of this is in the first encounter the puritans had with the so called savages. Thus it pleased God to vanquish their enemies...and by his special providence so to dispose that not any of them were either hurt or hit... At the river, he has transformed into a person with new mindsets, behaviors, feelings, and senses. Having resolved to live a new life by the river, Siddhartha runs into a friendly ferryman named Vasudeva, who has also helped him cross the river 20 years ago. Siddhartha expresses his will to become Vasudeva s apprentice and learn deeply from the river. With the influence of the ferryman, Siddhartha is able to obtain his ultimate, spiritual enlightenment and gain peace, wisdom, and patience which he has been aiming for. The river teaches Siddhartha and gives him several realizations which leads to his great awakening. He first discovers the true concept of time and timelessness by listening to the river: life is unified by being in all places at one time and time does not exist. His belief states that time is an illusion, and past, present, and future are all a one thing. He sees the world similar to a river, because every moment, including the childhood, early adulthood, and late adulthood is separated by shadows not by reality. Siddhartha tries to listen to the voices of the river and by the end, he feels extremely absorbed and listens perfectly. Eventually, the voices come to him into just a single concept of Om , in which signifies the oneness and the unity of all things. Now each sense of voice, river, and word is likened to another sense, so that Siddhartha s experience is at once diverse and unified. This Om perfection is only achieved through the pursuit of experience and life and through the understanding of the world. These are what Siddhartha realizes when he finally achieves Nirvana. In Siddhartha, the ferryman is an example of an archetype called the wise counselor/ mentor, specifically the Shaman. The wise counselor is someone who s older, dedicated to good, has the wisdom of experience, knows secrets, and advises the hero. Mentors represent the Self and are the aspect of personality that is connected with all things. The Milroys then analysed phonological variables (in this case /a/ and /ɛ/) in relation to the network structures and the individual speaker s degree of integration into a network. Firstly, they found that in Ballymacarrett, the innovative backing of /a/ is associated with men and the Belfast vernacular, while the traditional front /a/ functions as a network marker for women. In contrast, the innovative raised variants of /ɛ/ are associated with women and more prestigious outer city speech, while the traditional low /ɛ/ functions as a network marker for men. Furthermore, although the /a/ backing innovation is generally led by East Belfast males, the backing of /a/ among the young Clonard women is unusually high. The Milroys concluded that while working in a city centre shop, the Clonard women have weak tie encounters with customers who use the back /a/ innovation, and they then subsequently adopt this innovation in their own speech. For the Milroys, this supports the idea that linguistic innovations are diffused via weak tie connections, where the true innovators are connected to the early adopters via weak tie connections.
