FORCED TO WORK EXHAUSTING HOURS this is the label which a woman
who bought a summer dress at Primark found (See figure 1). The message was a cry
for help from workers and implies the harsh environment for the people in a
sweatshop (Lewin). The word sweatshop was made in the end of 1800s. The
definition of the sweatshop is broad but it describes any workplace where people
are forced poor conditions and long hours of works with low wages (Annabelle).
The US Department of Labor defined a sweatshop as a factory which violates two
or more labor laws (DoSomething.org). People in developed countries tend to enjoy
buying cheaper products and do not care about the reality of the process they have
made. In fact, many women and children are forced to work in sweatshops in
developing countries. Some corporations such as NIKE, GAP and Wal Mart have
already revealed those facts but the problem has not been solved yet (Bakan).

People who believe that sweatshop is ethical argue that it is better to have jobs than

Greek Life and its Impacts on Women Between family legacies, traditions, and an
abundance of college themed movies, books, and television shows, it would be
difficult to find a prospective college student who is not familiar with the idea of
Greek life. For the purpose of this essay, Greek life refers to the system employed by
many colleges and universities to establish and maintain fraternities and sororities
(primarily dominated by caucasian and economically advantages students). It is
important to note the existence of fraternities and organizations outside of this
stereotypical Greek realm, such as coeducational honor and service based fraternities,
though even these are not fully exempt from detrimental practices. Fraternities and
sororities are often looked down upon with a negative light for a number of reasons,
some of which include dangerous hazing habits and unsavory social scenes. While
there certainly are undeniable benefits and negatives within these systems, the
biggest effect they have is on gender. Greek life in college is unhealthy due to its
impact on post college gender expectations by promoting party culture, encouraging
misogyny through ingrained tradition, and indoctrinating women into subservience at

The Castle of Otranto Northanger Abbey The Castle of Otranto was written in
1764, by Horace Walpole. This novel is a Gothic novel, and I will be writing an
essay about this novel to show, and explain how Gothic it is. I will be picking a

In this novel Otranto , Manfred has a son that gets killed and no one knows how or
why. His son is to be married to Isabella, but things go a different direction when
she finds out that Manfred wants to marry her now. When Manfred pursues
Isabella in a sexually way, his demand for a divorce from his wife Hippolita seems
unreal, due to the incestuous nature of both relationships. Manfred s logic seems
to be lost and his justification, and his reasoning for his actions makes very little
sense. What makes this Gothic is, this is a dark way of living, and how evil it is to
live this way. From the novel Northanger Abbey , General Tilney is accurately, if
understandingly, described by Mrs. Morland as a strange man (Austen 29). In this
story there is a character named Catherine Morland who is a tom boy, that is a girl
that is becoming a woman. As she is becoming a woman, she is pulled between
both boys and playing sports, like Cricket. Her mother and father send her off to
an upper class resort to meet young men. There she encounters a man named Henry
and she falls in love with him. General Tilney is a man who runs a very strict
household, despite his actions to appear laid back to Catherine. General Tilney is
a stickler for people being on time. He is always getting angry at people for
disrupting his schedule or his sense of integrity and discipline. General Tilney is a
jerk to his kids, and is known for having things done his own way, down
41. Theme Between Hamlet And Midsummer Night s Dream
The course of love never did run smooth . Nothing could be said truer in the play
Midnight s summer dream . Lovers Hermia and Lysander want a forbidden
marriage. Eagus disapproves of it and tries to force her not to do it. Demetrius wants
to take Hermia s heart for himself, while Helena is fawning over him. Even the king
and queen are arguing over a related matter. Then, when the king introduces an
enchanted lovepotion, there is no telling how the quartet s love square will end up.
While the main character(s) is usually all 4 of the love square, I ll use Hermia as the
protagonist in the play, mostly because she is the one put in the most difficult
situation. Both Hamlet and Midsummer Night s dream explore the theme of conflict
and its repercussions, each play highlighting different aspects of the theme due to
differences in genre and subject. Hermia tends to be a very selfish person. She
chooses to marry who she wants, which is great, but she doesn t take account of the
consequences that may happen, to her or her father. For the same reasons, she is
very disobedient. I agree that your own father shouldn t get to pick who you marry,
but she chooses to fight against her father. Egeus strides into the room, followed by
his daughter Hermia and Athenian youths Lysander (The one Hermia wants to
marry) and Demetrius (The one her father wants her to marry) . This quote shows

Michael Ondaatje is a renowned Canadian author and poet known for his eloquent,
lyrical style. His novel, The English Patient, published in 1992, serves as a
commentary on the complexity of human relationships and the significance of

is impregnated with flashbacks from Kip, Caravaggio and most importantly the

expedition that lasted from 1930 to the beginning of World War II. His expedition
explored the uncharted areas of northern Africa, observing the terrain and
constructing maps. AlmГЎsy appears to be somewhat of a free spirit, not plagued by
the looming threat of the war. He forsakes nationalism and refuses to be labelled.
However, when he meets Katharine, he turns over the possession of his soul to her.
Although he tells her that he hates ownership, he claims parts of her anatomy for his

independency with dependency relates to European colonist attitudes. Throughout
history, Europeans have tried colonizing less developed countries for their own
benefit under the guise of the church. Being Hungarian, AlmГЎsy was likely
subjected to these ideals. Furthermore, AlmГЎsy claims that [a]ll [he] desired was to
walk upon such an earth that had no maps (261). This is ironic, as his job prior to the
war was to construct maps of the desert. Maps promote ownership and nationalities,
