Writing A Great College Essay
Writing an essay on the intricacies of crafting an exceptional college essay is no easy task. It
requires a delicate balance of personal insight, academic prowess, and persuasive writing skills.
To begin with, one must delve into the nuances of what makes an essay truly stand out amidst a
sea of applications. This involves understanding the expectations of college admissions
committees, who seek not only academic excellence but also a unique voice and perspective that
sets the applicant apart from their peers.
Next comes the challenge of introspection. Writing a great college essay necessitates a deep
exploration of one's own experiences, values, and aspirations. It requires the ability to reflect
honestly on significant moments in one's life and articulate how these experiences have shaped
who they are and who they aspire to become.
Furthermore, crafting a compelling narrative is essential. A successful college essay should not
only convey a clear message or theme but also captivate the reader from the very first sentence.
This demands careful attention to structure, language, and storytelling techniques that engage the
reader and leave a lasting impression.
Additionally, the pressure to stand out can be overwhelming. With so many applicants vying for
a limited number of spots, the stakes are high, and the competition fierce. This can lead to
feelings of self-doubt and anxiety, making the writing process even more challenging.
Despite these difficulties, writing a great college essay can also be incredibly rewarding. It offers
applicants the opportunity to reflect on their past accomplishments, articulate their goals for the
future, and ultimately present themselves in the best possible light to admissions committees.
In conclusion, tackling the topic of writing a great college essay requires navigating a complex
landscape of self-reflection, storytelling, and academic expectations. However, with
perseverance, creativity, and perhaps a bit of guidance, crafting an essay that truly shines is
within reach.

Ram s Morality And Morality

Ram s Morality Many people struggle or debate over the topic of morality, and
many people are mistaken as to who really judges what is moral or immoral. The
only person who can decide whether an act is morally right or wrong is God.
Within Slumdog Millionaire, there are many actions and ideas that can be
considered morally good or morally bad according to the Christian views of morality.
Ram Muhammad Thomas is debated over when it comes to the topic of Christian
moral views. He shows aspects of both sides in the moral boundary. Within
Slumdog Millionaire Ram shows that he is an immoral person through his
thoughts, actions, and motives. Morality is often referred to as decision making
and the difference between right and wrong. There are many aspects to Christian
morality such as the practice of freedom, the understanding of moral acts, the
formation of conscience, and above all realization of sin. Additionally, when
referring to the practice of freedom when it pertains to the topic of morality, it is
usually talking about the responsibility that is gained to be created in the image
and likeness of God ( Morality ). In order to practice responsible freedom we must
do things that would keep us in a more intimate relationship with God, such as
going to church and getting baptized ( Morality ). When God created us he gave us
the knowledge so we may choose to act good and ultimately share in his plan (
Morality ). Freedom is
Understanding Machine Hours And Its Effect On The Cost
Of...
Understanding Machine Hours At its core, a cost driver is any factor that is literally
driving or influencing the cost of something. Over the past century, there has been a
shift from single cost drivers to companies now reviewing several cost drivers. The
combination of more sophistication in manufacturing and growth in customers needs
and demands means that direct labor can no longer be the central cost driver.
Overhead costshave increased drastically and have had a dramatic effect on the profit
and competitiveness of manufacturing organizations. They account for a large
percentage of a company s total value and as a result, they have forced management
to recognize its effects. Manufacturing overhead, which includes all manufacturing
costs other than direct materials and direct labor, has increased significantly due to
automation, productdiversity and product complexity (p. 14 18,). When accounting
for these costs, a machinehour is defined as the operation of one machine for one
hour used as a basis for cost finding and for determining operating effectiveness
*Merriam Webster. A company that employs the use of machines extensively, such as
a manufacturing company, would be best served by using machine hours to analyze
costs.
Schemes, Machine Hours and ABC
Should ABC opt to utilize machine hours as a cost driver, they would be operating
under the most well known classification schemes, known as the manufacturing cost
hierarchy. The manufacturing cost

Richard Marek Publishers; First Edition edition (1980)
Setting
The setting of the novel takes place largely in Europe. The story opens in the
Mediterranean Sea off the coast of France. The story moves throughout France
largely in Paris. Zurich, Switzerland is also a major setting. New York City and
Washington, D.C. also play lesser but important roles. The story ends in the upper
west side of Manhattan in New York City. Other parts of the world are alluded to as
well, especially Southeast Asia.

III. Effectiveness/ Success of the Adaptation: It would be futile to compare this movie
with the book, as the movie ignores most of the plot in the book, only keeping the
element of an amnesiac agent. Although they share a name, The Bourne Identity by
Robert Ludlum and its movie adaptation have very little to nothing in common.
(see Fig 1.0) Compared side by side, the movie will hardly cover the first 3 chapters
of the book. The book describes a man who is found shot in the ocean without his
memory. He is saved by a couple of men and taken to a doctor on land who helps
him regain his strength and begin to remember his past. The man travels to Zurich
because of a negative found implanted in his body that leads to a bank. There, he is
ambushed by enemies he knows not, and with the help of an unwilling woman
named Marie St. Jacques he escapes. The man, whose name is discovered to be
Jason Bourne, and Marie fall in love and end up in Paris.

Pensive Bodhisattva And Korean Buddhist Art
Pensive Bodhisattva and Korean Buddhist Art Our lives are closely connected
with an art. People easily regard an artwork as something that is far from our lives,
but it is always around us. Now, I would like to introduce one of Buddhist artworks
of Korea. The title is Pensive Bodhisattva. The artist is unknown. However, it was
made in mid 7th century during the Three Kingdom Period. The dimension of this
artwork is 8 7/8 inch and the medium is gilt bronze. It is located in Gallery 233
among other Korean artworks at the Metropolitan Museum of Art now. Pensive
Bodhisattvahas typical features of the Buddhist artworks. Also, the interesting
aspect is we can see the unique features of the Three Kingdom Period s artwork
through this sculpture. When we see this sculpture at first, the most noticeable
point is the bodhisattva s posture. He sits on the dais and he puts his right leg over
his left leg. The right leg also props his right elbow and his fingers especially the
forefinger and the middle finger touch his right chin and he rests his left hand
neatly on his right ankle. The description of his fingers and toes are very realistic.
When we see the fingers and toes, we can feel how the artist put his or her blood
into sculpting each fingers and toes. However, his posture seems agonizing. When
we take a closer look his face, his eyes are closed and he puts gentle smile on his
lips. For that reason, his posture reminds us his anguish, but at the same time, his
facial expression

The State Of The Art Nature Inspired Metaheuristic
Algorithms
The paper reviews the state of the art nature inspired metaheuristic algorithms in
optimization, including the Firefly algorithm, PSO algorithms and ABC algorithm.
By implementing them in Matlab, we will use worked examples to show how each
algorithm works. Firefly algorithm is an evolutionary optimization algorithm, and is
inspired by the flashing behavior of special flies called fireflies in nature. There are
some noisy non linear mathematical optimizationproblems that can be effectively
solved by Metaheuristic Algorithms. Firefly algorithm is one of the new
metaheuristic algorithms for these optimization problems. The algorithm is inspired
by the flashing behavior of fireflies. Firefly Algorithm (FA) is a recent nature inspired
optimization algorithm, which simulates the flash pattern and characteristics of
fireflies. It is a powerful swarm intelligence algorithm inspired by the flashing
phenomenon of the fireflies. The optimization results of both PSO and Firefly are
analyzed from the results obtained in Matlab and the results are used to compare both
the algorithms.

Most of the conventional or classic algorithms are deterministic. For example, the
simplex method in the linear programming is deterministic. Some deterministic
optimization algorithms used the gradient information, they are called the gradient

The Power Of Literacy
It is not enough to simply teach children to read; we have to give them something
worth reading. Something that will stretch their imaginations something that will
help them make sense of their own lives and encourage them to reach out toward
people whose lives are quite different from their own. Katherine Patterson. Literacyis
a right. It is implicit in the right to education. It is recognized as a right, explicitly for
both children and adults, in certain international conventions. Literacy is the ability to
read and write, and also refers to having enough readingand writingability to function
in society. People who cannot read and write are called illiterate. People are called
functionally illiterate if they cannot read or write well enough to do activities that
are common in social settings they encounter. Such activities may include
employment, schoolwork, voting, or worship. The power of literacy is something
that can change the world. How far has literacy come since the beginning and what
is its history; what are the causes of a lower literacy rate; what effects can lower
literacy rates have; what about higher rates; what are some ways to improve the
literacy rates and; what are some of the benefits to a higher literacy rate?
Literacy has a long and detailed history. The earliest examples of pictorial written
communication date back to 3500 B.C. (Piechota). In the centuries after the invention
of written communication, only a small part of human society
Low Voter Turnout Essay
As the decline in voter turnout affects Canada and most western democracies, there
is an increasing urgency to find a solution to this trend. This paper will evaluate
whether civic education is indeed a solution to the trend, in hopes of re engaging
citizens. I would argue that civic education is a crucial measure to be taken in order
to inform and mobilize voters. It is said, without question, that a politically savvy
population is more inclined to engage in political participation. However, believing
that civic education alone is the silver bullet solution to declining voter turnoutis
overly optimistic.
Why is low voter turnout a concern? Simply put, non participatory citizens are
disengaged from an important aspect of political life. One s decision to to participate
can be linked to several issues. The concern facing the pattern of disengagement is
that it lowers our collective ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
However, the reality one faces when observing the outcome of such an initiative
proves that it is not so cut and dry. Civic education in Canada has been met with a
number of challenges. One primary issue is the lack of parity. As stated in Canada s
Constitution Act of 1867, there is no federal department of education and no
integrated national system of education. Therefore, in each province, the legislature
makes education laws exclusively. They are therefore responsible for the
organization, delivery and assessment of education at the elementary, secondary and
even postsecondary level. Moreover, it is difficult to immediately assess the impact
of civic education on voter turnout. This is mainly because the majority of students
who take civic education are not yet of voting age. Therefore, the benefits of civic
education can only be evaluated objectively at a later

How Did The Light Bulb Affect Society
The first successful light bulb was invented by Thomas Edison in 1879, little did he
know that his invention would change the world and still has affects to this day.
There are many reasons why the light bulb was the best invention of the Industrial
revolution, three reasons why are; it changed human existence by illuminating the
night. Another one is that it helped improve economics by making days longer. The
last one is it improved education, people began to read more and learning facilities
had later classes. The light bulb was definitely not the only invention from the
Industrial revolutionbut it was the one to have the biggest impact on society.
The Light bulb changed the lives of many people; it had a big impact on illuminating
the night. The night was always dark until the light bulb was invented by Thomas
Edison in 1879 and ever since then, the night has been able to be bright if people
wanted it too. The story of the light bulb begins long before Edison patented the first
commercially successful bulb in 1879; in 1800 Italian inventor Alessandro Volta
developed the first practical method of generating electricity, the voltaic pile, made of
alternating discs of zinc and copper, the pile conducted electricity when a copper wire
was connected at either ended. An English inventor by the name of Humphrey ...

Getting a full day of work in used to be impossible without the light bulb because it
is really hard to see in the dark without light. When the light bulb was invented,
businesses started to produce more because the workers had longer hours, with more
hours being available, more job opportunities opened up. Other machines that were
used in factories like the sewing machine could not be used without the light bulb
being there to light the factory. The light bulb also improved education in the

Wireless power transmission to power portable electronic devices. With the
increasing popularity of wearable gadgets, it becomes necessary to charge more and
more gadgets such as smartphones, smart watches, tablets, smart glasses and so on,
which is extremely inconvenient. In addition, considering the limitations of current
battery capacities used in portable consumer electronics and the fact that cost of
batteries rises along with their capacity, we should look for ways to eliminate the
need to charge various devices. The solution is wireless power transmission (WPT)
in crowded areas like cafes, stadiums, recreational facilities and so on. The technology
correlates with the telecommunications and consists of microwave power
transmission antennas covering certain areas capable of powering portable
electronics on the go. The power would be transmitted freely through the air, but
electronic gadgets would have embedded chips for authentication procedures. They
would be connected to smartphones to make payment easier and more convenient.

is shown and explained using the block diagram (Figure 1). On the transmitting end
of the system, the microwave power source generates microwave power, which is
controlled by electronic control circuits. Then the signal travels through the Coax
Waveguide Adaptor and the waveguide circulator, which protects the signal from
reflected power, to the tuner and
Basketball Game In Basketball
On April 7th, 2008 an instant classic of a basketball game was played between Bill
Self s Kansas Jayhawks and John Calipari s Memphis Tigers. It was the national
Championship between two power house number one seeded teams. The Tigers
seemed to have the game locked up, with just over two minutes left they had a 9
point lead over the Jayhawks. Out of nowhere Kansas caught fire to produce an
epic comeback. With 2 seconds left Mario Chalmers, the dead eye Jayhawk point
guard, hit a quick catch and shoot three pointer to tie the game at 65. The Jayhawks
went on to win the game in overtime, 75 68, in what would become not only KU s
first championship in twenty years, but would also go down as one of the greatest
championship games in college basketballhistory. The 2007 08 team will be
remembered for the win and, more importantly, for Mario s Miracle , the name given
to Mario Chalmers game tying shot. However, the Jayhawks had extensive success
throughout the whole season that brought them to that point. The season was
highlighted by a deadly accurate, high scoring offense that was fueled by a
suffocating defense that swarmed at every opportunity to take the ball away, and the
powerful showing in the tournament games leading up to the epic conclusion.
Led by junior guard Brandon Rush at 13.3 points per game, Kansas finished the
regular season ranked tenth in the nation for points per game at 81.5. Four of their
seven man rotation averaged ten or more points per game. The Hawks
The EFQM Excellence Model
III. SUMMARY (100 200 words) The EFQM excellence model is a management
framework aimed at increasing the competitiveness of an organization. Founded in
1988 by the European Foundation for Quality Management (EFQM) it suggests that
quality control should be at the heart of the production process right from the start to
the end (Gomez et al., 2011). The model is reviewed and refined regularly to ensure it
remains relevant. The history of quality managementcan be traced back to the
Japanese during the economy rebuilding period of the 1950 s. They emphasized on
prevention rather than inspection, customer satisfaction, continuous improvement
and leadership training. These principles formed the Total Quality Management
(TQM) system. Concisely TQM emphasized on Quality of Management rather than

Chew On This And Its Effect On The Food Industry
Food, noun, is any nutritious substance that people or animals eat or drink in order
to maintain life and growth. Many people don t know a lot about where their food
came from and who makes it, but there is way more behind the food. Working
conditions are a huge problem across the country and world.
To start with, many workers get injured and sick doing this job. There are many
reports about body parts getting amputated during the meat process, but the factory
kept running and the limb was sold to the public. The book Chew on This has a list
of injuries that includes: Employee s Eye Injured When Struck By Hanging Hook,
Employee Killed When Head Crushed by Conveyor, and many more. Employees are
also susceptive to get many diseases from touching the raw meat. Some of these
diseases are brucellosis, erysipeloid, leptospirosis, and dermatophytosis. ... Show

The production lines go fast so they can keep up or beat their competitors and a
result of that is all the injuries just listed. It also jeopardizes the safety of the food and
most importantly, the employees.
Lastly, some workers aren t allowed to take a break just to use the restrooms. Some
of the employees are forced to pee on the floor near the meat that people would eat
soon. And they are still working, so they don t have enough time to stop and wash
their hands which is another problem with the assembly line going so fast.
Given these points, people need to know the working conditions of staffers because
those are the people that are making the food you are about to eat and there could be
a problem behind those closed

(4) Negative influence on destination image
The special crisis event itself often has fortuitousness and temporary so the immediate
influence on economy is usually not serious, but if the way solving problem is not
proper that will possibly incur a more serious consequence. For example if the
information transmission is not prompt and inaccurate that will make the tourists
have suspicion and panic and also cause the traveling place s image suffering injury,
such negative influence on the local tourism industry is not directly but is long term.
Like 1994 Qiandaohu National Forest Park incident, information transmission after
the crisis was not accurate and the Taiwan authorities rose the safety incident to a

Tourism is a labor intensive industry, in the off season and during the special crisis

Self and the City Chris Abani s latest novel, The Virgin of The Flames, appears to
explore a plethora of quintessentially American themes such as race, religion,
sexuality, gender, urban environment, and self discovery. Like many of the
previous works of American literature read in this course that act as a window into
American life at the time of their publication, The Virgin of The Flames is a bay
window to the state of the American psyche as a product of the nation s history,
leading up to Black, a muralist in East Los Angeles. While the novel reads a little
strange and can try to grab at too many big ideas at once, the two pillars of conflict in
Black s character effortlessly parallel core conflicts of American life. The origin of...

Freedom within restraints is a contradicting idea, but just like the other themes and
conflicts mentioned before, contradictions have dominated American life since
1776. Mark Twain pioneered this theme in all of his works about slavery, including
Pudd nhead Wilson, which was unsurprisingly the first book read in the semester.

the restraints of slavery, and lastly Pudd nhead Wilson comes to terms with the
restraints of his nickname, personally liberating himself, which leads to him

Greco-Christian Beliefs Of Christianity And The Gospel
Of...
The Greek Alexander Romance describes the life of Alexander the Great, focusing
primarily on his great military feats as a leader of Greece and highlighting why he is
remembered as a great Greco Roman leader. Similarly, the Gospel of Matthew
explains the life of Jesus Christ through his teachings and miracles, which underline
why he is known as the greatest figure from Judeo Christian culture. Alexander and
Jesuseasily compare because they died in their early thirties, were known as kings,
and are remembered for impressive triumphs while on earth. Alexander sought to
build his empire and essentially rule the world through victories on the battlefield
and the conquering of neighboring countries. Jesus sought to destroy evil on earth by
establishing God s Kingdom and teachings in the hearts of all. Comparing the lives
of these great Greco Roman and Judeo Christian leaders highlight the differences in
cultural opinion on the highest good in life, how one obtains that good, and what that
means in connection to an afterlife. Judeo Christian and Greco Roman perspectives
on elements of a meaningful life contrast in the sense that Judeo Christian actions to
pursue these elements are motivated by the desire for everlasting life in heaven,
while Greco Roman actions are motivated by the desire for perpetual fame on earth
after one dies.
Both Alexander the Great and Jesus Christ establish relationships with their
communities in order to obtain their respective highest good in life. In an effort to
bring salvation for all, Jesus tried to lead everyone on earth on the path towards the
kingdom of heaven. In the beginning of the Gospel of Matthew, God says that Jesus
will, save his people from their sins (Matthew 1:21). The idea of salvation is
repeated later when Jesus himself announces, He who endures to the end will be
saved suggesting that whoever follows his guidance on redemption will be able to go
to heaven (Matthew 10:22). On the other hand in The Greek Alexander Romance,
Alexander seeks to obtain the highest good of power by uniting surrounding empires
under his rule and becoming the ruler of the world (66). In an effort to build unity
and trust in him, he fought alongside his men on the front line in battle.
For Colored Girls Essay
For colored girls (FCG) is Tyler Perry s adaption to Shange s first and most
acclaimed, theater piece. Shange s original work was not so much of a play with
an ongoing plot; rather, it consist of a series of emotional poetic monologues
accompanied with dance movements and music. Shange called her work a
choreopoem. The original work by Shange and Perry s adaption deal with black
feminism and what it means to be a black women living in America. The poems deal
with love, abandonment, domestic violence, rape, and abortion, embodied by each
woman s story. The end of the play brings together all of the women for a laying on
of hands, in which Shange evokes the power of womanhood.... Show more content on

Many black feminist felt that Perry would goof it up and turn it into another
Madea movie cash cow. One article even stated that Oprah Winfrey, didn t even
want him to make the film. Now I ve learned that even Tyler s close pal Oprah
Winfrey did not want him to make the film version of the iconic 1975 play by
Ntozake Shange. And that her reaction echoed the outrage of many black females
along the lines of, How dare you! because the storyline is profoundly their story, not
any man s, and especially not his. (Nikki Finke, 2010).
Many black feminist were outrage because Shange s work is a landmark to black
feminism and African AmericanLiterature. People were also skeptical because prior
to the release of the film, Tyler Perry, had only done African American romantic
comedies. Essentially, nobody thought he would be able to stick to the script and
produce a film with such a strong relatable message.
Real recognizing real. FCG is relatable to women of color because their stories are
universal to black women. Their stories are my stories. FCG gives a small voice to
women who struggle with the color of their skin.

The Shawshank Redemption
Darabont s use of film language or techniques in The Shawshank Redemption,
transports the audience into the world of Andy Dufrense and Red Ellis. Cahir asserts
that movies are fundamentally visual , and when a proper discourse of multiple
filmmaking techniques are effectively utilized, the visual effect is mesmerizing. In
the final scene of The Shawshank Redemption, the audience is witness to Andy and
Reds redemption, as they find themselves once again reunited on the beach of
Zihuantanejo Mexico, the paradise of their dreams. The ending scene, although
climactic, is introduced as Red, recently paroled, travels to the border to meet with
Andy. Darabont chose to use voice over, in much the same way he utilized throughout
the film, to convey... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
It is also a form of preoccupation according to Sue Clayton, RHUL, University of
London. In her journal article Visual and performative elements in screen adaption: A
filmmaker s perspective , Clayton asserts that due to preoccupation with fidelity...in
US cinema...most adaptations remain remarkably faithful to core elements of story
theme and character arc , shedding this fidelity in a negative light. Yet, fidelity to
core elements is what makes Darabont s adaptation of Shawshank, a successful
enterprise. As noted earlier, throughout the movie, a voice over monologue by the
character Red, is used to drive the storyline. His stories are heard in past tense, yet,
the action takes place as if in current time. It is a melodious combination, that
enthralls the audience through Andy s journey of cultivating the friendship between
himself and Red, and dealing with the enmity of the prison environment. The fidelity
to core elements in Shawshank comes from the fact that in King s original story,
Red, also played both orator and participant in the saga, thus served as the driving
influence of both stories. The assessment of a films adaptation successes or failures
is purely subjective to each viewer and their personal, visual and emotional translation
of a film. Understanding this ideology requires reviewing two other assessments of
the adaptation of

With the research questions in scope the Concept Map in Figure 1 demonstrates
little evidence of literature review referring to past critical factors assessments. It
was discovered by reviewing the author s previous studies that 90% of the critical
factors are re used from Fotopoulos, et al. (2009, p. 900) HACCP4 research. Hence,
other researcher s findings on critical factors are not considered in this study.
It is not clear if 11.8 percent of non SMEs are exluded by Psomas, et al. (2010, p.
446), who define SMEs by the European Commission (2003) recommendation, but do
not consider annual turnover (p. 39) in their exlusion criteria.
With the limitation on quality managers the study results show continuous
improvement to be of major importance (Psomas, et al., 2010, p. 447) which is
biased by quality managers interests while other author s similar studies including
the whole population of companies indicate top management commitment as most
important (Quazi Padibjo, 1998, p. 494; Calisir, 2007, p. 584; Zeng, et al., 2007, p.
246; Al Najjar, 2011, p. 122).
Main concern of the research is the little variation of all critical factors ranging from
3.64 to 6.00 (lowest to highest mean) on the seven point scale and it appears that the
majority of factors are of high importance. Still Psomas, et al. (2010, p. 447) attempt
to group factors into differentiated importance
Persuasive Essay On The First Flight
When Miguel appeared at the flight school where I was an instructor, there was no
indication of the relationship we would develop or of the adventures to come. I
would have laughed at anyone crazy enough to suggest that within a year he and I
would pilot a single engine plane from Phoenix, Arizona to Santiago, Chile. No
one could have predicted that along the way a woman in a remote village would
try to give us her baby or that we would find ourselves buzzing an airstrip to chase
away festival celebrants so we could land. The school offered a lesson called An
Intro Flight. Even though it wasn t really a lesson, the school advertised it as such
and offered it at a discount. The owners were hoping to entice people who d never
been up in a small plane to try the experience. Of course, the reason behind the
lesson was the belief that after the flight, people would fall in love with flying and
sign up for a series of lessons. The promotion was a joke. Earning a private pilot s
license involves 40 or more hours of flight time, qualifying grades on written
examinations, and passing a practical application test known as a check ride. There
is also an oral exam. Oh, and the cost exceeds $5,000. With one exception, people
attracted by the $35.00 lesson never signed up for another at full price; so they
certainly wouldn t commit to the additional time, effort, and expense of earning a
certificate. Unlike most schools, filled with teenagers dreaming of growing up to be

The Importance Of Traffic Laws
Laws are rules that bind all people living in a community. Laws protect our general
safety and ensure our rights as citizens against abuse by other people, organizations
and by the government. Laws exist at the local, state and national level. There are
laws that protect the rights of citizens such as the Bill of Rights that protect our
freedom of speech, religion and the press. There are laws that protect people from
discrimination of race, gender and age and disabilities. There are also rules and laws
to ensure safety on the roads. Laws that protect citizens on the street are known as
trafficlaws. Traffic laws have developed over time to help facilitate the orderly and
timely flow of traffic safely. There are a number of reasons traffic laws are
necessary such as safety, to reduce the number of fatalities and injuries on the
roads. According to the national safety council, an estimated 40,000 people died
from motor vehicle crashes in 2016 a rise of 6% from 2015. The national safety
council suggests that lower gas prices and increased motor mileage coupled with
risky activities while driving such as texting, playing with the radio and speeding
are responsible for the rise in fatalities and injuries. Most people recognize that
driving and vehicles can be dangerous for everyone on the roads including
passengers, pedestrians, cyclists; it is imperative that all drivers abide the traffic
laws. Many people become careless drivers and become desensitized to
Prevention Of Cult Research Paper
All of history has been proof that danger always lies in an unquestioning faith in a
single person. For decades, cults have been rising up from the minds of a few,
people that seem to think of themselves as a greater being. The question remains, is
there anything that can, or should, be done to prevent the growth of cults? It is
difficult to condemn all cults as being inherently evil, when doing so would be
prejudice against someone s religious beliefs. The Church of Scientology, one of the
world s largest cults, has officially been declared a religionby Britain s Supreme
Court (Bingham). Not only do people have the right to their beliefs, but the right to
actively practice their religion. The line that needs to be drawn is between

Familial importance is usually emphasized, and in more recent years some religions
have become accepting of things that they historically did not believe in. Religious
followers are allowed to have relationships outside of their belief system, and may
leave to pursue other beliefs without any major repercussions. These mark some of
the most dramatic differences between cults and other religions. Once someone joins
a cult following, such as the Church of Scientology, they are often required to adhere
to rules that the rest of society does not consider appropriate. These rules serve as a
warning to outsiders, although that is not their intent. Occasionally, people are forced
to abandon their families in order to dedicate themselves (Shoemaker). Should they
decide to leave the cult, damnation may be an insinuated

John Maynard Keynes And The Classical Model Essay
Part One John Maynard Keynes is referred to as one of the most well known
economists of his time. Not only was he able to come up with a solution to
essentially try to move the economy out of recession and stop booms and busts, but
his theory is still being used in todays day and age 70 years later. One big question
that has been asked repeatedly about Keynes theory is why did he not believe in
self adjustment of the economy. Keynes rejected the idea that market economies
would automatically move towards full employment. He claimed to have found
many flaws in the classical model as a whole (Davidson). Overall Keynes rejected
the classical models claim that markets self adjust to solve economic problem
because his insight was the opposite of the classical model. He was convinced that
sometimes things don t sort themselves out. The economy would actually continue
to go into a downward spiral and the usual dynamic of supply and demand would
essentially break down. As far as policy prescriptions for a recession, Keynes stated
that, If all else fails, the government can spend the money (Davidson). Not only did
he think this, he also was convinced that they shouldn t raise taxes or try to balance
the budget. If either of these things were to be done, it would essentially cancel out
any positive effect from spending. Keynes seemed to have felt very strongly that his
theory was bound to work, as well as the people who followed him and his theories
closely. However, economists
David Lurie As A Byronic Hero
...we are not asked to condemn this being with the mad heart, this being with whom
there is something constitutionally wrong. On the contrary, we are invited to
understand and sympathize. But there is a limit to sympathy. For though he lives
among us, he not one of us (Coetzee, 2000: 33). The afore stated quote from the
novel Disgrace by J.M. Coetzee, is used when discussing a poem by Lord ByronLara
in the novel. Yet it is directly applicable to the protagonist, David Lurie. Coetzee
appeals to the readers to not criticise Lurie too harshly for his actions and to find it
in their heart to sympathise with him. Lurie can therefore be viewed as a Byronic hero
. In the following essay David Lurie will be discussed as a Byronic heroas well as...

As a result of his bad choices, made even worse by his refusal to admit guilt, he
leaves his urban existence for the rustic countryside. Once there he takes up
residence with his daughter Lucy and even gets a job as an assistant to euthanize
dogs at the local animal shelter. The feature of the Byronic hero that is the
capability of deep and strong affection (Beatty, 2008) is seen in Lurie in his dealings
with Lucy. Nevertheless the single most important aspect that makes David a
Byronic hero is the fact that there are so many similarities between the life of Lurie
and Lord Byron himself. Lurie says: I was not myself. I was no longer a fifty year
old divorcГ© at a loose end. I became a servant of Eros (Coetzee, 2000:52). Byron s
personality and actions could be seen as driven by Eros, so Lurie says he is driven by
impulse, as already mentioned in this essay.
Lastly one can surely conclude that David Lurie shows all signs of being a Byronic
hero, most definitely a reflection of Lord Byron himself. Lord Byron once wrote;
What is the worst of woes that wait on age? What stamps the wrinkle deeper on the
brow? To view each loved one blotted from life s page, and be alone on earth, as I
am now. Similarly Lurie comes to the realisation that he is now old and should resign
himself to a quiet life without a string of young woman to
Leadership Corruption Of The United States
Leadership Corruption in American 1.1Introduction Corruption is almost legal
and open in political life of American. The political field of the United States is just
as a big stage, on which those young talent and who are in authority, show off as an
old saying expressed, You just finished and I come on the scene . However, there
are doubts that people can hardly receive any hearing of news about a real
corruption in American, for the statesman do not corrupt in any unacceptable ways.
In recent years, many corruptive cases show frequent occurrence in America. It was
only the tip of the iceberg. This essay gives an analysis of leadership corruption from
some specific examples. 2.1President Bush Involved in the Case of

case are under a heat discussion of American media. The misdeeds on trading, falsity
on the profit reports and the close relations with the Washington political circles were
discovered thoroughly. What s even more arresting is that the conflict was pointed at
the President Bush and his government. The case itself was equally considered as a
political scandal as the water gate scandal and the Iran gate scandal. Bush had to face
the media reporters on person and announced that the justice department had already

Don Quijote and the Neuroscience of Metafiction

I d like to go back to the original idea. In my understanding, metafictions tell stories in

The American Association Of Nurses
Based on my personal research and reflection, I have identified American Public
Health Association, an association of public health professionals in the United States
and other professionals from health related fields. This association comprise of
environmentalists, nurses, doctors, dentists and many other professionals. However,
there is more clarity about nurses in the public sector. The American Association of
nurses is one of the largest groups registered by APHA. I therefore, choose nurses as
a group of public healthprofessionals to research on. Nurses in the public healthsector
are known to be people focused as well as community development oriented.
Historically speaking, the American Association of Nurses has witnessed several
changes in their current operations in comparison to earlier operations. Thatcher,
(2012) asserted that Earlier nurses were focused more on community organizations,
population orientation as well as health promotions . The community and population
were the main partners to the association of the earlier nurses. Much emphasis was
put on health promotion and prevention measures for various diseases. Community
health care and health equity were also given priority by the American Nursing
Association (ANA). The present nursing industry has, however witnessed several
changes because of increased technological advancement. Another characteristic
associated with nurses is the consistency of determination to improve social
conditions and health

Triangle Shirtwaist Factory Trial
The Triangle Waist Factory Owner s TrialWe all know that the Triangle Waist
Factory fire was a terrible event, but that s not what I m here to talk to you about. I
am here to discuss the trial that followed this travesty. There were two men who
worked together that owned the Triangle Shirtwaist Factory: Max Blanck and
Isaac Harris. After the fire, that killed so many worker, it was brought to the
public s attention that there were many safety hazards in that now famous
building, and that there were many more buildings just like the Asch building.
Some of these hazards were narrow hallways and stairwells. The doors opened into
the room, which caused problems during the fire as girls pushed so close together
and were pressing so hard against these doors, that it took minutes (that they didn t
have to lose) to open them. The fire hose wasn t even connected to a water source!
After the public and the families of the victims heard about the poor conditions
their loved ones worked in, they demanded justice. The jury had reached their
verdict on December 27, 1911. I want you to keep in mind that this fire happened
on March 25th of that year . But put that aside the two men were found not guilty.
Even though the jury was presented with evidence such as; the workers had started
to revolt prior to the tragedy and the two men had hired other woman to come in
and fight their employees to keep the revolt under wraps. Not to mention the can of
oil that blocked to 9th floor door, trapping many girls inside. Not long after the trial

Car Radio Musical Analysis Essay
The song I choose for this deep analysis is Car Radio by Twenty One Pilots. I
recognized three parts in this song, meaning it has a ternary form. This analysis is
divided into sections, A B A . Each section will explain the usage of instruments,
dynamics, tempo, texture, and harmony. In the first section, A, I recognized the
usage of a piano, synthesizers, and a drum set. Different parts of the drumset, like
the cymbals and the bass drum, are playing at a pianissimo and slowly crescendo up
to a mezzo piano. In the music, the drum set plays a big role in the leaps it presents
when it starts creating a beat. The synthesizers create different sounds which add to
the music of the song. The sounds created sound, out of this world when they

The timbre here is not calm anymore, but fanciful and bright. The rhythm here is
upbeat and makes listeners just want to move their feet. Here the usage of
synthesizers become the melody with the piano accompanied as the harmony, making
this rising action, homophonic. The singer doesn t sing much here, but when he
does, this makes this section, become polyphonic, creating two melodies
accompanied with one harmony. The singer s voice goes from baritone to tenor,
singing in a major key. The dynamics here went from piano to forte and then
suddenly to fortissimo, creating leaps in section B. These leaps creates an incomplete

Stalingrad Ready To Retreat
conquering Stalingrad, was ready to give up and retreat because he was aware of
how doomed he and soldiers were at this point in the battle. For instance, they had
already lost many troops, were trapped by each corner, and had each side of their
flanks blown up, which contained many supplies, and troops. Yet, Hitler insisted
Paulus to keep fighting, even if it was to the {Gonzalez} 6 death, and even ranked
him to field marshall and reminding Paulus that no general of that rank had ever

and surrendered along with twenty other generals. A few days later on February 2
the remaining ninety one thousand men also surrendered, and were eventually
killed or put into concentration camps, and Prison. After this extraordinary battle
ended, an estimated 250,000 German and Romanian Corpses in and around
Stalingrad were recovered, and the total of Axis casualties, wounded, or missing

American Government Artifacts
My artifact is exam one which shows competency in many areas of American
government. The Constitution is a document that shares the rules and basic
procedures of the land, as indicated by the answer to question four. This document
was created because the first form of a constitution (The Articles of Confederation)
failed. The goal was to have enough power to rule on a national level, but not so much
power that it removed fundamental rights. One way this was accomplished was by
dividing the power into three branches. The three branches of government are the
legislative branch, the executive branch, and the judicial branch. If you reference
question number eight of the artifact, you can see which article (section) of the
Constitution refers
Comparing Byzantine And Justinian Art
With centuries between the two works of art known as Justinian and his Attendants
and the Augustus of PrimaportaВё there is a notation of change in the citizens of the
empire that encompassed around the Mediterranean Sea. From the rise and fall of the
Roman Empire to the growth and fabrication of Byzantine, the art was the form of
propaganda used by the elites to send a strong, clear message of power and
undeniable righteousness. Augustusthe General and Justinian made almost 500 years
apart, completely different in style and empires, both wanted to create the same hype
around their beliefs. They were the chosen ones, the leaders who had connections to
the secular world. They were the representations on earth, in human form, of God or
Gods themselves.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

looks just as Doryphoros, another well known male statue. Both men appear to be
stuck in a contrapposto pose, seeming as if in motion. Take note of his right leg,
placed firmly forward while his left leg is bent, indicating knee movement, and the
heel has come off the ground slightly. However, Augustus is unique due to the way
he is standing, what he s wearing and who and what he represents. His facial features
are almost perfect; almost youthful in a way that a person would want their ruler to
be. Moving further down, we reach the most important feature of the statue. Augustus
s breast plate has relief sculpture with an intended meaning; Augustus has the Gods
on his side, he is a strong military leader, and a bringer of the Pax Romana, the years

Descriptive Essay About Basketball Court
Most of us have a place where we can go and be free and be ourselves with no
implications. It is a place where we can just forget about the problems of life, the
problems of the world, and just feel true tranquility, pure freedom. I have a place like
this, it is the basketball court. Just the sight of the basketballcourt evokes countless
emotions and feelings for me. There is not another place in the world where I feel
as free and excited as I do on the basketball court. When I step onto the court it is
impossible for me to conjure a negative feelingwithin myself, I enter an endless state
of euphoria and self confidence.
I feel the second I step onto the hardwood I immediately am filled with a sense of
never ending joy, as if it was my first time setting foot in the gym and picking up a
basketball, holding it in my hands as if I had the world placed in my palms. I feel
as if I am in complete control, like a maestro conducting his symphony and
everything I do is nothing but sweet music with the perfect melody and flow. I have
that thought I can do no wrong, because every move I make, every decision I make,
every shot I take is the right thing to do. When I lace up my shoes and step between
the lines something great, something astonishing is released within me. Nothing can
stop me. Not the referees, not the opposing fans and certainly not the opposing
players. Why? Because I am in my territory, my sanctuary. The game and the court,
they are my canvas, and I am Picasso, the

Retention (in IT Companies) A Case Study of IT Companies in India
Abstract
The IT/ITES sector is the backbone of Indian economy. It earns lot of foreign income
to boost the Indian economy. Even in the economic turmoil over the globe,
particularly in developed countries, though this sector had little affected, could come
out successfully managing the entire economic imbroglio. High attrition in the IT
/ITES industry has always been its greatest concern and a subject of much analysis
and debate. Organizations use different methodologies for calculating their attrition
rate. HR experts feel that it is a know factor that attrition calculation is gray area
which does not always depict the true picture while a few techniques are common
there are no proven theories yet. Further, the approach to this calculation might vary
from organization to organization. The Tamil Nadu, Particularly, Chennai is
considered to be one of the biggest IT hubs in India having presence of very big IT
companies. The availability of skilled employees with cheap labour cost in Tamil
Nadu is an important reason. AT the same time the rate of attrition are also felt in
these companies. Presently, Tier II cities like Madurai, and Coimbatore were taken
place in the IT map. The employee retention is also felt in the IT companies situated
in Madurai also. In this context, the researchers, attempted to find out the reasons for
The Contributions Of Death In Dante s Inferno
In the Inferno, Dante journeys along the path that will eventually lead him to God by
first passing through Hell. As he goes through his journey in Hell with Virgil, Dante
encounters several sinners who are being punished based upon the sins each
individual committed. Dante s attitude towards the sinners punishment changes from
sympathy to hostility as he goes through his path towards God. At first, Dante is to
feeling sympathy for the souls that reside in the Second Circle of Hell, whose
punishment is to be constantly blown by wind. These sinners are punished
specifically for lust. Many individual souls are named by Virgil, but Dante starts to
show signs of sympathy when Francesca voluntarily steps forward to explain her love
story with... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
I agree with Poggiolo s statement involving sympathy for Francesca because this
means that even though Dante feels sympathy for both Francesca and Paolo, it
does not erase the fact that they did commit the sin of adultery. Dante can feel
sorry for their situation, but there is no way he can forgive them of the sin they
committed. God did put them there so no matter how much pity Dante feels for
them there is nothing he could do about their punishment in Hell. As Dante travel
deeper along Hell, he needs to become stronger to complete his journey. In the
beginning of his journey, he encounters sinners who did not commit a sin as bad as
the sinners in the Ninth Circle of Hell. That is why he feels sympathetic to
Francesca and Paolo, who is in the Second Circle of Hell. Now that he is at the last
Circle of Hell, he needs to be fiercer and stronger to get through his journey. Virgil
says to Dante that Thy soul attained is with cowardice, / Which many times a man
encumbers so, / it turns him back from honored enterprise (Canto II, 45 46). Virgil
is helping Dante become more courageous in his journey, which leads him to
become hostile. Dante arrives in the Ninth Circle of Hell which is known to harbor
traitors. The punishment for theses traitors is to be frozen in a lake to represent the
coldness of their hearts and how they do not have any feelings of remorse for
betraying others and their own families. The traitors being frozen and
Theories That Contradict The Authenticity Of William...
THe expectation I have coming into this project is that I will learn of theories that
contradict the authenticity of the man William Shakespeare. My opinion on the
matter is that SHakespeare is the true author due to information I have learned
through my life, knowing that there was a man named William SHakespeare who
was part of the Lord CHamberlain s Men, an acting troop meaning Shakespeare had
knowledge of the entertainment business. To start my research I looked for websites
that expressed the opinions people had on the many theories that contradict
Shakespeare s authorship. As I searched I came across websites that deem to be
reliable and possess the information needed to answer the question. The first website
that I discovered is History.com,... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

opinion on the Oxfordian Theory. The theory surrounds Edward De Vere

Earl of Oxford who is the most popular alternative candidate. We travel through De
Vere s life, he was born in 1550, attended two prestige colleges. The piece compares
and contrasts Shakespeare and Edward De Vere, contrasting their levels of
education. Shakespeare only attended elementary, where as De Vere attended two
colleges making him to be the more realistic and qualified person who was able to
write thirty seven brilliant plays. Jameson writes about De Vere being a traveler
especially traveling to Italy in the year 1575 being circumstantial to the fact
fourteen of Shakespeare s plays take place in Italy. De Vere is said to have lived
with known Shakespeare s influence for his writing, Arthur Golding. Lee Jamison
expresses the opinion on Edward De Vere being the true authorship but however does
not deny Shakespeare writing, the debate goes

6 6 Beta and expected return
If a company s beta were to double, would its expected return double? Beta
Coefficient is the measure of a stock s relative volatility. The beta is the covariance
of a stock in relation to the rest of the stock market. The Standard amp; Poor s 500
Stock Index has a beta coefficient of 1 (one). Therefore, the stock s price can be
expected rise and fall twice as fast as the market in general. As to the required return,
that would be up to the people who choose to invest in that particular stock.

An individual has $35,000 invested in a stock with a beta of 0.8 and another $40,000
invested in a stock with a beta of 1.4. If these are the only two investments in her
portfolio, what is her portfolio s beta? Beta is weighted average: [(35000)(0.8) +
(40000)(1.4)] / 75000 = 1.12

Assume that the risk free rate is 6% and that the expected return on the market is
13%. What is the required rate of return on a stock that has a beta of 0.7? R^I = RF

Auto Drivers Research Paper
Today, auto technology on sale allows cars to see all around, gathering data on
possible roadway concerns and giving driver s eyes in the back of their heads.
Since more than 90 percent of crashes involve driver error, automakers created a
range of safety systems that aid drivers for brief periods to help avoid accidents.
Driver assist systems include lane departure and blind spot warnings, adaptive cruise
control, automatic braking, telematics control systems and more.
Automobiles have changed a great deal since the invention of the Model T. Cars
today look more like something from a science fiction movie rather than a normal
car. Even with all of the technological advancements there are still many dangers
while driving a car. Human error
The Incredible Hulk Essay
16) The Incredible Hulk
The reason this film is at the bottom of the list might not be entirely its fault.
Marvel Studios at the time was still not exactly sure where they were going and
how Bruce Banner would play into the future of the MCU. However, this movie is
not Marvel s best work. Edward Norton was mediocre, there is no denying that
Mark Ruffalo is a much better, well rounded Bruce Banner. The climax is a bit of a
yawn, but the action scenes are decent. I could care less for the Bruce/Betty
dynamic, plus Betty was kind of a nuisance who got in the way. The CGI was
cringeworthy, the Hulk looks borderline cartoonish. Despite all this, it s an average
Hulk origin story, even though it is a bit less than satisfactory compared to other
MCU films.
15) Iron Man 2
Following an amazing film like Iron Man is a hard task, and Iron Man 2 did not meet
expectations. The movie was trying to cover too much content, and at the same time
trying to bring the fun, quick wittedness of its predecessor. At this time, Marvel was
trying to figure out where they wanted these films to go, and their confusion showed
through in this film. However, we did get our introduction to Natasha Romanoff,
under the alias of Natalie Rushman, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
It was quite a slow ride until Frigga s death, then Thor stopped playing games and
picked up the pace. Much of this had to do with the addition of Loki, of course,
because what is Thor without Loki? Unfortunately, we cannot say the same for
Jane, who seemed to have run her course enough in the first film, having nothing
left to do in this one but be a host for a parasitic infinity stone. Thor had a huge
character arc in the first film, and he kept that good character in this one. This
installment has a cool, realm jumping end fight scene, as well as many witty quips,
mostly from Darcy and Loki. Soren Anderson of the Seattle Times puts it best, The
picture is a mess, but it s kind of a fun
The Betrayal Of Brutus In Julius Caesar
Catharine MacKinnon once said, It s particularly hard to take being stabbed in the
back close to home. There s always a feeling of betrayal when people of your own
group oppose you. In Julius Caesar , Brutus decides to join the conspiracy against
Caesar. This in itself is a huge form of betrayal. The further into the play, the more
suspicion there is with Brutus. What are truly his objectives? How does he want it
all to end? Brutus was naive in believing Cassius. Overall, Brutus did betray Caesar
and it is evident in the story. Cassius is Brutus brother in law. Which means that
Brutus loved Cassius just as much as he loved Caesar. Brutus judgement may have
very well been conflicted because of his relation to Cassius. It is also evident that
Brutus was a good persuader(II, i , 120 130). This would make it apparent that Brutus
persuaded himself, as well as conspiracy, that if he killed Caesar it would be for a
good reason.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In this citation, it shows that Cassius was jealous. Although, it also showed that
Brutus saw through his jealous and focused on the fawning bestowed upon him.
Lucius, who was Brutus servant gave Brutus anonymous letters that were meant to
persuade him into joining the conspiracy. This shows that he was unsophisticated
enough to not question the letter.(II, i, 46 58). Brutus may have wanted to believe
Cassius words for his own reasons, also being hesitant as being part of the
Texting While Driving Essay
In 2007, 64% of US adults admitted to texting while driving despite the fact that
89% approved of laws that would ban the practice (Richtel, 242). Cell phone users,
even though they are aware that texting and driving is dangerous, continue to text
behind the wheel anyway. In A Deadly Wandering, Matt Richtel demonstrates that
most drivers simply cannot help but be distracted by their cell phones as a result of
both behavioral and neurological factors. It has been well established that human
attention does not accommodate multitasking. The cocktail party effect described
by Dr. Adam Gazzaley shows that true multitasking is impossible: during a cocktail
party, someone can listen to a conversation while shifting their attention to look at
another individual having a different conversation but can only notice minor details
about the other conversation, such as the sound of their name (Richtel, 62). In
addition, the possibility that a person can focus on two different things at once is
further diminished by how the two main forms of human attention, bottom up and
top down, function. Top down attention is involved in focusing on goals and tasks
like writing a paper, making a meal, or driving; on the other hand, bottom up
attention is what causes someone s attention to focus on something instantly, such
as the sounding of a fire alarm or a sound from a cell phone (Richtel, 105 6). This
means that a driver s focus (top down attention) can be taken completely off the
road by a vibration or noise that comes from their cell phone s capturing their
bottom up attention. With that said, the majority of drivers are not well educated
on the intricacies of human attention. As a result, drivers act on the innate need to
respond in what seems like an appropriate fashion to the object that gained their
bottom up attention. A 1999 research study on human decision making (dubbed the
chocolate cake experiment for one of the food choices presented to subjects) found
that people are more likely to make poor decisions when their brains are
overwhelmed (Richter, 219). Drivers suffer sensory overload from having to focus
on the road in front of them and by the sounds of their mobile phones, as well as
hearing any passengers also in
What Causes Thermohaline Circulation
1. Thermohaline circulation of the ocean corresponds to the change of density in
flowing water. It is created through global density gradients constructed by surface
heat and freshwater fluxes through the large scale ocean circulation. It is based on
deep water currents that make up 90% of the ocean. Water moves around areas found
under sea, ocean basins, since density is caused by forces and gravity. The amount of
salt in the water and the temperatureof the water changes the density. Salinity and
cold temperatures make the water more dense which causes deep waters, which
form when air temperatures are cold and the salinity of the surface of waters is high,
to sink into deep ocean basins at high latitudes where temperatures are cold enough
for the density to decrease. In other terms, it is known as part of the ocean circulation
created through the differences in densities. The density of the water is dependent on
the salinity and temperature which changes from the surface of the water either
heating up or cooling down as freshwater flows as said before. Thermohaline
circulation moves a massive current around the world not to... Show more content on

The marine ecosystems would die because the nutrients would not be becoming
spread out through the flow of the currents not to mention more fish would die
since the oxygen supply would decrease if the ocean currents were to collapse fully
or partially. The food chain would go off balance because if some animals were to
die, their predators would have no prey to eat on so those animals would die of
starvation which could lead to extinction and all ocean life being threatened starting
with the phytoplankton that uses photosynthesis and is the first in line for the marine
food chain not to mention it is essential to all oceanic life. If phytoplankton die, their
skin sinks to the bottom of the ocean, the surface of the water is not refilled with
nutrients if it were to collapse since the circulation would not move the water down

Liberty And Paternalism Essay
LIBERTY AND PATERNALISM
John Stuart Mill and Gerald Dworkin have distinctly opposing views on legal
paternalism in that Mill is adamantly against any form of paternalism, whereas
Dworkin believes that there do exist circumstances in which paternalism is justified.
Both agree that paternalism is justified when the well being of another person is
violated or put at risk. Mill takes on a utilitarian argument, explaining that allowing
an individual to exercise his freedom of free choice is more beneficial to society
than deciding for him what is in his best interests. Dworkin, on the other hand, feels
that certain cases require the intervention of either society as a whole or its individual
members. He breaks ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
A large part to this justification is the idea of future oriented consent, the concept
that once the child grows up and realizes the consequences of his chasing the ball,
he will agree that the interference of an outsider was justified. Another example for
which this concept can be applied is the matter of seat belts. The question of
whether or not a person should be punished for not wearing a seat belt, I believe,
can be answered by comparing it to the previous example. If a person were to be
involved in a car accident and be seriously injured because he was not wearing a
seat belt, he would come to the realization that he should have been wearing it. At
this point, he will realize that his personal health is worth the inconvenience of
putting on his seat belt. The fact that any logical, rational person will come to this
realization justifies the interference of an outside party, the government in this
example. If this person does not realize that his health and his life is worth putting
on a seat belt, it is safe to say that this person is illogical and irrational. If this is the
case, a decision can be forced upon him for his own well being; the same way that it
would be for a child for the same reasons. One opposition to this reasoning is that an
adult differs from a child in that it is presumed that the adult can understand the
consequences of his action

Writing A Great College Essay. Steps to writing a college essay

  • 1. Writing A Great College Essay Writing an essay on the intricacies of crafting an exceptional college essay is no easy task. It requires a delicate balance of personal insight, academic prowess, and persuasive writing skills. To begin with, one must delve into the nuances of what makes an essay truly stand out amidst a sea of applications. This involves understanding the expectations of college admissions committees, who seek not only academic excellence but also a unique voice and perspective that sets the applicant apart from their peers. Next comes the challenge of introspection. Writing a great college essay necessitates a deep exploration of one's own experiences, values, and aspirations. It requires the ability to reflect honestly on significant moments in one's life and articulate how these experiences have shaped who they are and who they aspire to become. Furthermore, crafting a compelling narrative is essential. A successful college essay should not only convey a clear message or theme but also captivate the reader from the very first sentence. This demands careful attention to structure, language, and storytelling techniques that engage the reader and leave a lasting impression. Additionally, the pressure to stand out can be overwhelming. With so many applicants vying for a limited number of spots, the stakes are high, and the competition fierce. This can lead to feelings of self-doubt and anxiety, making the writing process even more challenging. Despite these difficulties, writing a great college essay can also be incredibly rewarding. It offers applicants the opportunity to reflect on their past accomplishments, articulate their goals for the future, and ultimately present themselves in the best possible light to admissions committees. In conclusion, tackling the topic of writing a great college essay requires navigating a complex landscape of self-reflection, storytelling, and academic expectations. However, with perseverance, creativity, and perhaps a bit of guidance, crafting an essay that truly shines is within reach. Similar essays and much more can be ordered on HelpWriting.net. • 2. Ram s Morality And Morality Cullen Lemieux Period 2 World literature Mr. Neely Ram s Morality Many people struggle or debate over the topic of morality, and many people are mistaken as to who really judges what is moral or immoral. The only person who can decide whether an act is morally right or wrong is God. Within Slumdog Millionaire, there are many actions and ideas that can be considered morally good or morally bad according to the Christian views of morality. Ram Muhammad Thomas is debated over when it comes to the topic of Christian moral views. He shows aspects of both sides in the moral boundary. Within Slumdog Millionaire Ram shows that he is an immoral person through his thoughts, actions, and motives. Morality is often referred to as decision making and the difference between right and wrong. There are many aspects to Christian morality such as the practice of freedom, the understanding of moral acts, the formation of conscience, and above all realization of sin. Additionally, when referring to the practice of freedom when it pertains to the topic of morality, it is usually talking about the responsibility that is gained to be created in the image and likeness of God ( Morality ). In order to practice responsible freedom we must do things that would keep us in a more intimate relationship with God, such as going to church and getting baptized ( Morality ). When God created us he gave us the knowledge so we may choose to act good and ultimately share in his plan ( Morality ). Freedom is
  • 3. Understanding Machine Hours And Its Effect On The Cost Of... Understanding Machine Hours At its core, a cost driver is any factor that is literally driving or influencing the cost of something. Over the past century, there has been a shift from single cost drivers to companies now reviewing several cost drivers. The combination of more sophistication in manufacturing and growth in customers needs and demands means that direct labor can no longer be the central cost driver. Overhead costshave increased drastically and have had a dramatic effect on the profit and competitiveness of manufacturing organizations. They account for a large percentage of a company s total value and as a result, they have forced management to recognize its effects. Manufacturing overhead, which includes all manufacturing costs other than direct materials and direct labor, has increased significantly due to automation, productdiversity and product complexity (p. 14 18,). When accounting for these costs, a machinehour is defined as the operation of one machine for one hour used as a basis for cost finding and for determining operating effectiveness *Merriam Webster. A company that employs the use of machines extensively, such as a manufacturing company, would be best served by using machine hours to analyze costs. Schemes, Machine Hours and ABC Should ABC opt to utilize machine hours as a cost driver, they would be operating under the most well known classification schemes, known as the manufacturing cost hierarchy. The manufacturing cost

The Bourne Identity Book and Film Comparison Essay xxxxxxxxxx xxxxxxxx English Lit. and Composition 16 December 2013 Book and Film Comparison The Bourne Identity Robert Ludlum Richard Marek Publishers; First Edition edition (1980) Setting The setting of the novel takes place largely in Europe. The story opens in the Mediterranean Sea off the coast of France. The story moves throughout France largely in Paris. Zurich, Switzerland is also a major setting. New York City and Washington, D.C. also play lesser but important roles. The story ends in the upper west side of Manhattan in New York City. Other parts of the world are alluded to as well, especially Southeast Asia. Point of view/ person: The point of view is written in the first person, however, the point of view ... The Bourne Identity co stars Chris Cooper, Clive Owen, Brian Cox, and Julia Stiles. ~ Karl Williams, Rovi III. Effectiveness/ Success of the Adaptation: It would be futile to compare this movie with the book, as the movie ignores most of the plot in the book, only keeping the element of an amnesiac agent. Although they share a name, The Bourne Identity by Robert Ludlum and its movie adaptation have very little to nothing in common. (see Fig 1.0) Compared side by side, the movie will hardly cover the first 3 chapters of the book. The book describes a man who is found shot in the ocean without his memory. He is saved by a couple of men and taken to a doctor on land who helps him regain his strength and begin to remember his past. The man travels to Zurich because of a negative found implanted in his body that leads to a bank. There, he is ambushed by enemies he knows not, and with the help of an unwilling woman named Marie St. Jacques he escapes. The man, whose name is discovered to be Jason Bourne, and Marie fall in love and end up in Paris. Variances between movie and book In the Book In the Movie
  • 5. Pensive Bodhisattva And Korean Buddhist Art Pensive Bodhisattva and Korean Buddhist Art Our lives are closely connected with an art. People easily regard an artwork as something that is far from our lives, but it is always around us. Now, I would like to introduce one of Buddhist artworks of Korea. The title is Pensive Bodhisattva. The artist is unknown. However, it was made in mid 7th century during the Three Kingdom Period. The dimension of this artwork is 8 7/8 inch and the medium is gilt bronze. It is located in Gallery 233 among other Korean artworks at the Metropolitan Museum of Art now. Pensive Bodhisattvahas typical features of the Buddhist artworks. Also, the interesting aspect is we can see the unique features of the Three Kingdom Period s artwork through this sculpture. When we see this sculpture at first, the most noticeable point is the bodhisattva s posture. He sits on the dais and he puts his right leg over his left leg. The right leg also props his right elbow and his fingers especially the forefinger and the middle finger touch his right chin and he rests his left hand neatly on his right ankle. The description of his fingers and toes are very realistic. When we see the fingers and toes, we can feel how the artist put his or her blood into sculpting each fingers and toes. However, his posture seems agonizing. When we take a closer look his face, his eyes are closed and he puts gentle smile on his lips. For that reason, his posture reminds us his anguish, but at the same time, his facial expression

The difficulty of selfhood underpins the six part succession The Clown : gay/And terrible at once (101) for his carnivalesque description of the relation of performer and audience, conflating actual and enacted tragedy. A sense of social and emotional separation is conformed in the putrid language of About These Things , which seems to hint at the onset of the psychological difficulties which Jennings next collections show. Jennings work is inclined to be dismissed by critics such as A. Alvarez from his recent collections of contemporary poets: The New Poetry series, 1962 and 1966 , because of her ... Jennings probes the short period of psychological illness which is reflected in Recoveries (1964), The Mind Has Mountains (1966), The Animals Arrival (1969) and Lucidities (1970). They make her 1960 assertion that: Poetry has become a gesture of defiance, a plea for order in a universe of confession and manmade chaos (Jennings, An Anthology of Modern Verse 8) seem distressing. Jennings s nervous state seems to tell in her poems formalities. In the withered world of Recoveries, childhood its central reference points, simple stanza forms are regulated by painstaking rhyme schemes, lineation holding disorder at bay. A more confessional mode increases only slowly. In Still Life and Observer , what might be self scrutiny is deflected on to the male observer whose gaze balances the objects /.../ Himself almost a still life (Jennings, TCP 166). The Mind has Mountains is more female centered and overtly disempowered in spite of the clear conversational idiom in poems such as A Depression and One Flesh . Her voice remains self distancing. This is the reason why, in the context of psychiatric treatment, dialogue proves generative as in the poems like The Interrogator , Lisa , Questions and Suicides . When self consciousness fall away with linguistic control,
  • 8. The State Of The Art Nature Inspired Metaheuristic Algorithms The paper reviews the state of the art nature inspired metaheuristic algorithms in optimization, including the Firefly algorithm, PSO algorithms and ABC algorithm. By implementing them in Matlab, we will use worked examples to show how each algorithm works. Firefly algorithm is an evolutionary optimization algorithm, and is inspired by the flashing behavior of special flies called fireflies in nature. There are some noisy non linear mathematical optimizationproblems that can be effectively solved by Metaheuristic Algorithms. Firefly algorithm is one of the new metaheuristic algorithms for these optimization problems. The algorithm is inspired by the flashing behavior of fireflies. Firefly Algorithm (FA) is a recent nature inspired optimization algorithm, which simulates the flash pattern and characteristics of fireflies. It is a powerful swarm intelligence algorithm inspired by the flashing phenomenon of the fireflies. The optimization results of both PSO and Firefly are analyzed from the results obtained in Matlab and the results are used to compare both the algorithms. Index Terms Firefly algorithm, Metaheuristic algorithm, PSO INTRODUCTION Most of the conventional or classic algorithms are deterministic. For example, the simplex method in the linear programming is deterministic. Some deterministic optimization algorithms used the gradient information, they are called the gradient based algorithms. Firefly is a metaheuristic algorithm that is inspired by the
  • 9. The Power Of Literacy It is not enough to simply teach children to read; we have to give them something worth reading. Something that will stretch their imaginations something that will help them make sense of their own lives and encourage them to reach out toward people whose lives are quite different from their own. Katherine Patterson. Literacyis a right. It is implicit in the right to education. It is recognized as a right, explicitly for both children and adults, in certain international conventions. Literacy is the ability to read and write, and also refers to having enough readingand writingability to function in society. People who cannot read and write are called illiterate. People are called functionally illiterate if they cannot read or write well enough to do activities that are common in social settings they encounter. Such activities may include employment, schoolwork, voting, or worship. The power of literacy is something that can change the world. How far has literacy come since the beginning and what is its history; what are the causes of a lower literacy rate; what effects can lower literacy rates have; what about higher rates; what are some ways to improve the literacy rates and; what are some of the benefits to a higher literacy rate? Literacy has a long and detailed history. The earliest examples of pictorial written communication date back to 3500 B.C. (Piechota). In the centuries after the invention of written communication, only a small part of human society
  • 10. Low Voter Turnout Essay As the decline in voter turnout affects Canada and most western democracies, there is an increasing urgency to find a solution to this trend. This paper will evaluate whether civic education is indeed a solution to the trend, in hopes of re engaging citizens. I would argue that civic education is a crucial measure to be taken in order to inform and mobilize voters. It is said, without question, that a politically savvy population is more inclined to engage in political participation. However, believing that civic education alone is the silver bullet solution to declining voter turnoutis overly optimistic. Why is low voter turnout a concern? Simply put, non participatory citizens are disengaged from an important aspect of political life. One s decision to to participate can be linked to several issues. The concern facing the pattern of disengagement is that it lowers our collective ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... However, the reality one faces when observing the outcome of such an initiative proves that it is not so cut and dry. Civic education in Canada has been met with a number of challenges. One primary issue is the lack of parity. As stated in Canada s Constitution Act of 1867, there is no federal department of education and no integrated national system of education. Therefore, in each province, the legislature makes education laws exclusively. They are therefore responsible for the organization, delivery and assessment of education at the elementary, secondary and even postsecondary level. Moreover, it is difficult to immediately assess the impact of civic education on voter turnout. This is mainly because the majority of students who take civic education are not yet of voting age. Therefore, the benefits of civic education can only be evaluated objectively at a later

There are many reasons why the light bulb was the best invention of the Industrial revolution, three reasons why are; it changed human existence by illuminating the night. With the increasing popularity of wearable gadgets, it becomes necessary to charge more and more gadgets such as smartphones, smart watches, tablets, smart glasses and so on, which is extremely inconvenient. In addition, considering the limitations of current battery capacities used in portable consumer electronics and the fact that cost of batteries rises along with their capacity, we should look for ways to eliminate the need to charge various devices. The solution is wireless power transmission (WPT) in crowded areas like cafes, stadiums, recreational facilities and so on. The technology correlates with the telecommunications and consists of microwave power transmission antennas covering certain areas capable of powering portable electronics on the go. The power would be transmitted freely through the air, but electronic gadgets would have embedded chips for authentication procedures. They would be connected to smartphones to make payment easier and more convenient. Figure 1. It was the national Championship between two power house number one seeded teams. The Tigers seemed to have the game locked up, with just over two minutes left they had a 9 point lead over the Jayhawks. Out of nowhere Kansas caught fire to produce an epic comeback. With 2 seconds left Mario Chalmers, the dead eye Jayhawk point guard, hit a quick catch and shoot three pointer to tie the game at 65. The Jayhawks went on to win the game in overtime, 75 68, in what would become not only KU s first championship in twenty years, but would also go down as one of the greatest championship games in college basketballhistory. The 2007 08 team will be remembered for the win and, more importantly, for Mario s Miracle , the name given to Mario Chalmers game tying shot. However, the Jayhawks had extensive success throughout the whole season that brought them to that point. The season was highlighted by a deadly accurate, high scoring offense that was fueled by a suffocating defense that swarmed at every opportunity to take the ball away, and the powerful showing in the tournament games leading up to the epic conclusion. • 21. Greco-Christian Beliefs Of Christianity And The Gospel Of... The Greek Alexander Romance describes the life of Alexander the Great, focusing primarily on his great military feats as a leader of Greece and highlighting why he is remembered as a great Greco Roman leader. Similarly, the Gospel of Matthew explains the life of Jesus Christ through his teachings and miracles, which underline why he is known as the greatest figure from Judeo Christian culture. Alexander and Jesuseasily compare because they died in their early thirties, were known as kings, and are remembered for impressive triumphs while on earth. Alexander sought to build his empire and essentially rule the world through victories on the battlefield and the conquering of neighboring countries. Jesus sought to destroy evil on earth by establishing God s Kingdom and teachings in the hearts of all. Comparing the lives of these great Greco Roman and Judeo Christian leaders highlight the differences in cultural opinion on the highest good in life, how one obtains that good, and what that means in connection to an afterlife. Judeo Christian and Greco Roman perspectives on elements of a meaningful life contrast in the sense that Judeo Christian actions to pursue these elements are motivated by the desire for everlasting life in heaven, while Greco Roman actions are motivated by the desire for perpetual fame on earth after one dies. Both Alexander the Great and Jesus Christ establish relationships with their communities in order to obtain their respective highest good in life. In an effort to bring salvation for all, Jesus tried to lead everyone on earth on the path towards the kingdom of heaven. In the beginning of the Gospel of Matthew, God says that Jesus will, save his people from their sins (Matthew 1:21). The idea of salvation is repeated later when Jesus himself announces, He who endures to the end will be saved suggesting that whoever follows his guidance on redemption will be able to go to heaven (Matthew 10:22). On the other hand in The Greek Alexander Romance, Alexander seeks to obtain the highest good of power by uniting surrounding empires under his rule and becoming the ruler of the world (66). In an effort to build unity and trust in him, he fought alongside his men on the front line in battle.

Hence, other researcher s findings on critical factors are not considered in this study. It is not clear if 11.8 percent of non SMEs are exluded by Psomas, et al. Not only was he able to come up with a solution to essentially try to move the economy out of recession and stop booms and busts, but his theory is still being used in todays day and age 70 years later. One big question that has been asked repeatedly about Keynes theory is why did he not believe in self adjustment of the economy. Keynes rejected the idea that market economies would automatically move towards full employment. He claimed to have found many flaws in the classical model as a whole (Davidson). Overall Keynes rejected the classical models claim that markets self adjust to solve economic problem because his insight was the opposite of the classical model. He was convinced that sometimes things don t sort themselves out. The economy would actually continue to go into a downward spiral and the usual dynamic of supply and demand would essentially break down. As far as policy prescriptions for a recession, Keynes stated that, If all else fails, the government can spend the money (Davidson). Not only did he think this, he also was convinced that they shouldn t raise taxes or try to balance the budget. If either of these things were to be done, it would essentially cancel out any positive effect from spending. Keynes seemed to have felt very strongly that his theory was bound to work, as well as the people who followed him and his theories closely. However, economists

Once there he takes up residence with his daughter Lucy and even gets a job as an assistant to euthanize dogs at the local animal shelter. The feature of the Byronic hero that is the capability of deep and strong affection (Beatty, 2008) is seen in Lurie in his dealings with Lucy. Nevertheless the single most important aspect that makes David a Byronic hero is the fact that there are so many similarities between the life of Lurie and Lord Byron himself. Lurie says: I was not myself. I was no longer a fifty year old divorcГ© at a loose end. I became a servant of Eros (Coetzee, 2000:52). Byron s personality and actions could be seen as driven by Eros, so Lurie says he is driven by impulse, as already mentioned in this essay. Lastly one can surely conclude that David Lurie shows all signs of being a Byronic hero, most definitely a reflection of Lord Byron himself. Lord Byron once wrote; What is the worst of woes that wait on age? What stamps the wrinkle deeper on the brow? To view each loved one blotted from life s page, and be alone on earth, as I am now. Similarly Lurie comes to the realisation that he is now old and should resign himself to a quiet life without a string of young woman to

The political field of the United States is just as a big stage, on which those young talent and who are in authority, show off as an old saying expressed, You just finished and I come on the scene . However, there are doubts that people can hardly receive any hearing of news about a real corruption in American, for the statesman do not corrupt in any unacceptable ways. This case has shocked the whole society and made the history of it. Recently, the details of the case are under a heat discussion of American media. The misdeeds on trading, falsity on the profit reports and the close relations with the Washington political circles were discovered thoroughly. What s even more arresting is that the conflict was pointed at the President Bush and his government. The case itself was equally considered as a political scandal as the water gate scandal and the Iran gate scandal. Bush had to face the media reporters on person and announced that the justice department had already launched a

Its original meaning was a fiction that both creates an illusion and lays bare that illusion. 1 But the term has expanded and expanded to include any fiction that even mentions the idea of fiction. That can cover a lot of things, starting with the Iliad.2 I d like to go back to the original idea. In my understanding, metafictions tell stories in which the physical medium of the story becomes part of the story. The American Association Of Nurses Based on my personal research and reflection, I have identified American Public Health Association, an association of public health professionals in the United States and other professionals from health related fields. This association comprise of environmentalists, nurses, doctors, dentists and many other professionals. However, there is more clarity about nurses in the public sector. The American Association of nurses is one of the largest groups registered by APHA. I therefore, choose nurses as a group of public healthprofessionals to research on. Nurses in the public healthsector are known to be people focused as well as community development oriented. Historically speaking, the American Association of Nurses has witnessed several changes in their current operations in comparison to earlier operations. Thatcher, (2012) asserted that Earlier nurses were focused more on community organizations, population orientation as well as health promotions . The community and population were the main partners to the association of the earlier nurses. Much emphasis was put on health promotion and prevention measures for various diseases. Community health care and health equity were also given priority by the American Nursing Association (ANA). The present nursing industry has, however witnessed several changes because of increased technological advancement. God did put them there so no matter how much pity Dante feels for them there is nothing he could do about their punishment in Hell. Overall, Brutus did betray Caesar and it is evident in the story. Cassius is Brutus brother in law. Which means that Brutus loved Cassius just as much as he loved Caesar. Brutus judgement may have very well been conflicted because of his relation to Cassius. It is also evident that Brutus was a good persuader(II, i , 120 130). • 51. Texting While Driving Essay In 2007, 64% of US adults admitted to texting while driving despite the fact that 89% approved of laws that would ban the practice (Richtel, 242). Cell phone users, even though they are aware that texting and driving is dangerous, continue to text behind the wheel anyway. In A Deadly Wandering, Matt Richtel demonstrates that most drivers simply cannot help but be distracted by their cell phones as a result of both behavioral and neurological factors. It has been well established that human attention does not accommodate multitasking. The cocktail party effect described by Dr. Adam Gazzaley shows that true multitasking is impossible: during a cocktail party, someone can listen to a conversation while shifting their attention to look at another individual having a different conversation but can only notice minor details about the other conversation, such as the sound of their name (Richtel, 62). In addition, the possibility that a person can focus on two different things at once is further diminished by how the two main forms of human attention, bottom up and top down, function. Top down attention is involved in focusing on goals and tasks like writing a paper, making a meal, or driving; on the other hand, bottom up attention is what causes someone s attention to focus on something instantly, such as the sounding of a fire alarm or a sound from a cell phone (Richtel, 105 6). This means that a driver s focus (top down attention) can be taken completely off the road by a vibration or noise that comes from their cell phone s capturing their bottom up attention. With that said, the majority of drivers are not well educated on the intricacies of human attention. As a result, drivers act on the innate need to respond in what seems like an appropriate fashion to the object that gained their bottom up attention. A 1999 research study on human decision making (dubbed the chocolate cake experiment for one of the food choices presented to subjects) found that people are more likely to make poor decisions when their brains are overwhelmed (Richter, 219). Drivers suffer sensory overload from having to focus on the road in front of them and by the sounds of their mobile phones, as well as hearing any passengers also in
  • 52. What Causes Thermohaline Circulation 1. Thermohaline circulation of the ocean corresponds to the change of density in flowing water. It is created through global density gradients constructed by surface heat and freshwater fluxes through the large scale ocean circulation. It is based on deep water currents that make up 90% of the ocean. Water moves around areas found under sea, ocean basins, since density is caused by forces and gravity. The amount of salt in the water and the temperatureof the water changes the density. Salinity and cold temperatures make the water more dense which causes deep waters, which form when air temperatures are cold and the salinity of the surface of waters is high, to sink into deep ocean basins at high latitudes where temperatures are cold enough for the density to decrease. In other terms, it is known as part of the ocean circulation created through the differences in densities. The density of the water is dependent on the salinity and temperature which changes from the surface of the water either heating up or cooling down as freshwater flows as said before.
