The Ubiquitous Mobile Essay
The Ubiquitous Mobile
Snap!Snap!Snap! Your privacy has just been invaded by someone who has taken a photo of you in the
dressing room, with their new camera mobile phone! Is this what the latest technology intended to
provide for us? I don t think so, and this is why I think mobile phones can be a really distracting, and
in this case, an offensive tool, despite being a powerful form of telecommunication. These always,
new up and coming devices can cause financial hardships, by people changing life style habits just to
accommodate the purchase of them. Most people are aware of this, however their immutable minds
doesn t stop reminding them to send that extra SMS message or dial that extra number. Mobile phones
take over our lives, or ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The financial expenses, which have accumilated from mobile phones, have been quite dangerous to
particular people. Like pouring water out of a leaking bottle, money has been wasted out of many
people s banks and financial accounts because of mobiles. Not only can mobile phones be financially
challenging but they can also be physically dangerous. Recent studies have shown that the high level
of radiation coming through the antenna while speaking on the mobile, can critically affect your body
by alpha radiation particles mutating a cell, which goes on to divide and divide, causing a malignant
tumor cancer. So, when all s said and done, mobile phones do have its negative side, and in my
opinion it s negative side is in complete dominance over its positive attributes. These types of phones
can dramatically change people s life styles or even terminate them!
Life styles have often been altered immensely through many life changing events such as: marriage,
births and deaths, diseases, disorders and the like. But however, none of these examples really were in
people s will power, and mobile phones are in other people s hands and in people s strength in mind.
So, is it our latest generations which want to modify their good life style habits in order to make
mobile phones their number one priority, because of their eye catching features and miraculous

Free Trade Vs Fair Trade
Introduction
Adam Smith, author of The Wealth of Nations, shows support for free trade and emphasises it as a
trade policy which ought to be adopted. Krugman and Obstfeld back Smith s support by stating that
the efficiency of trade is increased by free trade and accumulates the national income of countries.
Free trade is a theory which suggests that each nation benefits in specialising in an economic activity
from which it gains absolute advantage, enjoying absolute superiority over other nations in a specif
economical activity (Peng). With free trade follows opportunity, replacing regulation and growth of
economic activity. (Rugmann and Collinson).

McDonald and Burton clarify that infant industries can feel supported into growth (and sometimes
beyond) by the trade policy of protectionism and tariff barriers. This form of strategic protectionism
enables industries seeking to grow to enjoy the benefits of first mover advantages, a concept of
specialising in producing and exporting only those goods and services which it can produce more
efficiently (Investopedia) and the benefits of economies of scales. A prime example of this is Amazon,
the first online bookstore. By gaining the first mover advantage into the markets, it has gained and
maintained dominance over many firms. Firms have adopted the concepts and practices such as
retailers like Barnes and Nobles. Professer Marvin Lieberman and David Montgomery, Stanford
University, conclude that first mover advantage can be gained from technology leadership, control of
resources and buyer switching costs after gaining the opportunity to access the pioneering stage of a
concept.
Free Trading Areas
Free trade areas, FTA, are economic integration arrangements in which barriers to trade (e.g. tariffs),
exchange of goods and information among member nations are removed. It is arguable to say that fair
trade aims to create equilibrium between LEDC s, less economically developed countries and
developed nations in terms of trading activities and ethics. In saying this, free trading between more
economically developed countries and LEDC s will mean

Different Aspects Of School Involvement Towards Health And...
Different aspects of school involvement towards health and wellness has long been thought to
influence students. Research argues that health promoting lifestyle activities maintain or improve
individual s health and wellness (reference). Researchers suggest that health promotion includes a
process of empowerment of the community to act on the improvement of their life and health qualities
(research) A closer look into a healthy lifestyle begins at childhood. Healthy lunches promote physical
activity and healthy diets. School lunches need to have nutritional value and a well balanced nutrition
scale including fruits, grains, vegetables, protein and dairy. Recess enhances health and academic
benefits. Recess involves more than just stimulating indoor activities, but also simply thirty minutes of
exercise outside. Moreover, the healthy lifestyle needs promotion by an authoritative figure or
institution. Many students rely on teachers, principals, nurses, etc. to teach them the essentials of
health because parents may lack the knowledge to do so.
In a school setting, health promotion entails providing students with educational courses, activities,
school lunches, and recess. All of these factors contribute immensely to the balance of a student s life.
Control must be given to the student to allow them to improve their health and cause a rise in
awareness. The purpose of this study evaluates the methods that public and private middle schools in
the Athens metro area distribute

War: Like Hell on Earth
Wilfred Owens, an English poet and soldier, is well known for his poems about war. Born in 1983,
Owens took the front line of the army by 1916. When asked why he decided to enlist Owens replied, I
came out in order to help these boys directly by leading them as well as an officer can; indirectly, by
watching their sufferings that I may speak of them as well as a pleader can ( Poet Wilfred Owen Killed
in Action ). He used his experiences in the army and on the battlefields to write descriptive and
powerful poems. One of Owen s most famous poems, Dulce et Decorum , was written sometime

Owens may be implying that although it feels good to join the war and to be patriotic, it is not to be
looked at lightly. War is an ugly experience. It is a traumatizing thing to go through and the images are
not easy to forget. War is no walk in the park it is an ugly reality that cannot be fully understood until
it is experienced. Works Cited

Summary Of The Roaring Inside Her
Women and Nature, The roaring inside her , by Susan Griffin, is a nonfiction feminist literature. Susan
Griffin, describes her work by linking together the destruction of nature, the subside of women and
racism, and the power of men towards women and nature.
In the book, Susan Griffin, compares women and earth to man. She sheds light on feminism, female
oppression, destruction of nature, and lastly the inequality that exist between men and women. The
principal focus of the book is to show the connection between women and nature, and the disparities
between men and nature. After years of conducting research she concludes that women and men
inequality, science, language, and tradition have shape men masculinity as the ultimate power,
drawing a line between man and nature.
The first chapter is called Matter, and in this chapter she compares the bodies and agency of women to
being small , weak , and a form of property. She explains that the universe is always subject to change
and that there is always a cause and effect: similar to women; body changes, such as, breast, vulva,
hair, and womb. In part two of the book she presents the notion of territory. She illustrates that men
are able to be free and women give up their secrets and men are the first to know. Then she speaks
about how women are expected to be loyal and patriarchy even though men screw them over at the
end, which is the same action that men do to the earth with possession, use and exploration.
As explained previously, Griffin, states that women are looked upon as to caring, weak, sensitive,
smart less, and not strong enough. She uses a unique context to express the separation of men and
nature. She stated,
He says that woman speaks with nature. That she hears voices from under the earth. That wind blows
in her ears and trees whisper to her. That the dead sing through her mouth and the cries of infants are
clear to her. But for him this dialogue is over. He says he is not part of this world, that he was set on
this world as a stranger. He sets himself apart from woman and nature. (Griffin,2000, p.67. Preface)
Precisely for Griffin this impression of masculinity has driven men to perceive of themselves as
powerful and superior. In the

How Networks Work And Different Types Of Them
Here I will explain a few keywords that will be frequently used in the PowerPoint Today we will learn
about networks. We will learn about how networks work and about the different types of them. You
will also learn about all of the Physical devices in a network which make it work. The First Type of
network we will talk about it LAN this stands Local Area Network. LAN networks can range in size
from two computers, but the size is limitless from there the only restriction is hardware. One example
of a LAN is your home network you have different device that connect to each other to get a service,
which is the internet. LANs use the IEEE standards to make sure there is inter compatibility between
different hardware from different manufacturers on LANs. LANs also use a range of protocols to help
provide different functions, for example LANs use the TCP/IP protocol suite to communicate with
WANs such as the internet. LANs may also use the token ring protocol to control network access also
they may use Fibre Distributed Data Interface to provide a backbone for LANs spread over large
distances. Normally LANs in a corporate network can be a mixture of wireless and wired connections
they use different technologies to avoid network collisions. The best way to think of network
collisions is like a tunnel with cars going through and if two cars want to go down the same lane at the
same time they will collide this would prevent the car from getting to its destination, this is the same

William Shakespeare s The Red Cedar
In reality the world needed another Olivia Benson and I believed I would be just that. However I
wanted a challenge so I decided to be Imani Horne the Criminal Attorney. After years of watching
intense show downs in the courtroom I thought I d found my calling. I was selected for an internship
with Samuel Terry. While attending several murder cases it took one family court case to drive me
away from being a Criminal Attorney. I can still imagine the uttering cries of the mother and her
children. There I found my calling, adolescents! Throughout high school my passion were the greats,
Shakespeare, Poe, Hemingway, Dickens, Twain, and the list goes on. In particular Shakespeare picked
my brain constantly. His works have survived and remain triumphant even today. Though teachings
were shallow I still remained engulfed by his works. Which lead me to dive into English on the banks
of the Red Cedar. My plan was to begin with the foundations of my literary study to sharpen my skills.
This meant the introduction of how we read and what to look for also known as close reading. The
Introduction to Reading Poetry with Mr.Pogue equipped me to understand the poets hidden persona
and how to make sense of it. As this was a challenging course I believed I still wanted to embark on
this journey. The Foundations of Literary study with Mrs.Barksdale Shaw molded me to decipher all
types of works. Literary works ranged from poems, music lyrics, and even plays. By the time I

Gender Roles And Gender Development
Gender and sex are not synonymous, although they are often used interchangeably. Sex is a biological
term and defined as the categories of male or female of the sum total of biological attributes on which
this distinction is based within a species (Colman, 2009). Gender, however is a social construct and
consists of gender role, gender identity and sexual orientation / preference. Gender identity is a sense
of awareness, usually beginning in infancy, continuing through childhood, and reaching maturing in
adolescence, of being male or female, or of the gender associated with one s biological sex . Gender
role is defined as a set of behaviour patterns, attitudes, and personality characteristics stereotypically
perceived as masculine or feminine within a culture (Colman, 2009). Understanding gender
development is important because the perception of gender identity affects the roles individuals play
in society. If the reason behind the gender differences can be understood, they can be minimised to
develop a more gender equal society. Also, research into gender development has real world
applications. In many aspects of psychological research, gender differences can affect results. This can
be reduced through gender equality. This essay will focus on the development of gender identity and
the role nature and nurture play in it; specifically the role of genetics and cognitive gender
development / social learning theory.
The nature nurture debate is one of the oldest issues in

Paskina, the senior manager of Barboursville winery and other wine sellers have studied well what

behind similar wines from even older vineyards.

The Benefits Of Vegetarianism
Vegetarianism is a controversial topic that involves the consumption of meat. Should one become a
vegetarian? If consuming meat involves the production of factory farming and health risks the
consuming meat is not good. If consuming meat is not good, one should become a vegetarian.
Therefore one should become a vegetarian. A suitable beginning would be to define a factory farm.
A factory farm is a large, industrial operation. It raises large numbers of animals for food. About nine
billion animals live in factory farms to live a miserable existence. Newborns torn from their mom days
after being born. Sometimes even hours. They are then transported and kept in small cages. Or their is
life in cramped and overcrowded pens. Males in egg farms are not valuable. Tens of thousands of
them are into the trash because their meat is unsuitable. They are also ground alive into feed for other
animals. Male calves of dairy cows eat liquid and iron deficient diets. They are in crates for their lives
that keep them as immobile as possible. This is to keep their muscles weak and tender. Most of these
animals at these farms are indoors. Few are able to live happy lives. Because of this they are unable to
fulfill their instinctual urges. They become psychotic, neurotic and have repetitive behaviors. Many
become cannibalistic. The animals are also give a consistent regimen of antibiotics and growth
hormones. To keep disease and death away. Factory farming and non intensive family farms animals
could have surgical modifications such as beak, toe, tail removal, ear tagging and clipping, teeth
removal, branding, dehorning, castration and ovary removal (QUOTE). Due to the high cost of
anesthesia this is all performed without it. During transportation to the slaughterhouse many animals
die. Due to starvation or freezing to death. The animals who are unable to walk are downers (QUOTE)
and die in the yard. Animals with fur die in the wild. Or they live in small cages and fed each other s
remains. They are then killed by anal electrocution so their pelts are not marred. Factory farming is
immoral and has turned many people to vegetarianism.
Another reason would be this argument. Let s say someone sees a small turtle come out of the

Stress And Its Effects On Children
Humans are not the only species to undergo stress; it has been used as a survival tactic across all
lineages of organisms. One necessity of stress is when it produces the instinct of fight or flight, that
enables individuals to overcome a threatening situation or to run like the wind. In an advanced society,
stress has become self produced and normalized into society, whereas people are always looking for
efficiency in the fastest way possible. However, not many individuals realize children undergo stress
at the hands of others that produce severe biological and psychological effects, as well as long term
deficiencies. Considering, America is the wealthiest industrialized economy, society needs to be aware
of stress related issued in children so that we can tackle the problem to save current and potential
victims. Stress in children is complex to detect, considering their still developing and adapting to the
surrounding environment. Unfortunately, there are cases when a child is subjected to traumatic
situations and never receive therapeutic treatment, thereby resulting in some children remaining
powerless to discover their own coping mechanism to ease the emotional suffering. Although stress

INTRODUCTION:
Bacteria are the smallest living organisms, they are prokaryotic and have a simple cell structure. They
do not contain a nucleus, and are unicellular. Bacteria are the most abundant microorganism. They are
among the earliest forms of life that appeared on earth billions of years ago. They can grow in
different temperatures and many exist naturally in our human flora, such as staphylococci. Growth
within different temperatures can range from 0 degrees Celsius such as psychrotrophs, to
hyperthermophiles who grown best above 70 degrees Celsius (Ritchey, Exercise 16). Bacteria have
many shapes, size, and multicell arrangements. The main bacteria shapes are cocci (spherical or ovoid
shaped), bacilli (straight rods), coccobacillus (short rods), fusiform bacillus (rod shaped bacilli with
tapered ends), vibrio (curved rods), spirillum (single spiral bacteria), and spirochete (if it is flexible
and undulating). Bacteria can form multicell arrangements, such as diplococcus (two cell
arrangements) (. Bacteria are usually named for their shape or multicell arrangement, but cannot be
truly identified by just those characteristics (Strelkauskas, Edwards, Fanhert, Pryor, 2016). Bacteria
can be classified by the way they stain. They are clear under a microscope and require staining to be
seen. To stain a bacteria, one takes a dye to color the cells. There are basic dyes that contain

Rhetorical Analysis Of Advertising In Advertising
In television advertisements companies, main intention is to get the audience to buy the product that
they are selling. In this essay, I will be analyzing the these to ads, Whale (Old Spice) and Susan Glenn
(Axe). These ads are formulated to get their products noticed, along with sparking the interest of the
other goods they may offer. Countless methods are used to convince the audience being targeted to
buy the product. Therefore, these ads are similar in its ability to gain the attention of their audiences
by appealing to pathos. Though this essay I will seek to analyze the rhetorical effects that help bring
the commercial to life. In the Old Spice commercial, Whale the primary focus was to convey the
effectiveness of the body wash to combat the smell of sweat and body odor. The ad presents the image
of a man who is good looking and fit playing tennis on a rough sea on top of a whale, appealing to his
masculinity. While in Susan Glenn (Axe) commercial, they use their product to show if he had worn
that product in high school then he would have had the girl he wanted. It is noted that the main focus
was reflecting on the girl he admired in high school, appealing to the men emotions by stipulating that
they aren t the man that woman want without the smell of axe. Fundamentally, the axe commercial
does a better job of conveying their message using setting, the lighting, color, framing and ultimate

Education Inequality In Thailand
Although gender and education inequality may be both gradually increasing while shifting up and
down throughout the years, the adult literacy rate in Thailand has only been increasing since 2000. In
2015, only about four percent of Thailand s citizens aged fifteen and over were illiterate. This ends up
positively contributing to a wide variety of social improvements, such as lower infant mortality rates
and higher education levels for future generations. This is because a parent who went to school and
learned to reads is more likely to do the same with their child, regardless of gender. The same goes for
length of education as well the more education they received, the more education they will likely
expect their child to experience.
As Thailand s globalization has increased very little over the years, another major developmental
indicator has also done the same. The World Bank shows Thailand s average citizen lifespan from
birth experiences a four year increase from 2000 to 2014, from 70 years to seventy four years. Another
improving factor for Thai citizens is the increasing health standards even after the 2014 military coup.
Thailand has ranked higher than the surrounding countries for births attended by a skilled staff
member since 2000 and beyond. This is a major indicator of Thai development, not only for health but
also for women s rights. From the year 2000 to 2012, Thailand s percentage ranged from 97.3% and
99.6% of births. In comparison, Laos highest percentage

In order to portray Joe s emotional distress, Enduring Love is told through first person narration. Joe

Pericles Play Analysis
Pericles In the performance of Pericles, by Shakespeare, I had the expectation of older costumes and
old english. While there was old english, I still was able to understand what was happening during the
play. The costumes during the performance were more of a modern take to Shakespeare. During the
performance, the actors were very engaged with the audience, used the stage well, and provided
enjoyable music. During the show, the actors were able to keep the show very entertaining by being
engaged with the audience. I thought it was both humorous and entertaining when the actors would get
close to the audience or be humorous by saying lines directly at audience members. During the
performance there was a large sense of action and reaction from the characters to the audience. At
points during the show, the actors would shift from taking the scene very seriously and would make a
joke and the entire audience would laugh. I felt that the actors made the show feel very personal by
keeping the audience engaged by making eye contact and making feel as if they were talking to the
audience while on stage. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The actors utilized the stage in a practical way and spaced themselves out in an even matter. They
made a balance throughout the stage and I noticed for most of the play the actors made sure they were
spaced correctly. It felt like the actors were able to communicate with their body language as if it was
natural to them, therefore making the stage symmetrical. I believed that the actors did take use of the
small stage they had and made it seem as if it was double the size. I also believe that I knew I was in
the presence of great actors, since they knew how to utilize the stage in that

Things Fall Apart, by Chinua Achebe Essay
In the novel, Things Fall Apart, by Chinua Achebe, women play the roles of oppressed homemakers
that are perceived as weak and defenseless second class citizens, as the educators of children, and as
spiritual leaders in traditional Ibo culture. Through the life of Okonwo, the main character of Things
Fall Apart, the roles of women in traditional Ibo culture are presented through various events that take
place in the village of Umuofia. In traditional Ibo culture, women were to stay at home and tend to her
husbands needs and satisfy them. Women were viewed as property of their fathers and were then sold
to the suitor that was willing to pay her bride price. A woman had no identity of her own, the status
and position of her husband defined ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The other wives were very much afraid of Okonwo but they knew better than to challenge his
authority. Neither of the wives dared to interfere between an occasional and tentative, It is enough
Okonwo , pleaded from a reasonable distance (38). Okonwo even attempts to shoot Ekwefi when she
referred to him as one of those guns that never shot. The novel describes a third instance of wife
beating, when a severe case of wife beating comes before the egwugwu, they found in favor of the
beaten wife, but at the end of the trial an elder wondered, Why such a trifle should come before the
egwugwu? (94). All these occurrences demonstrate that women are oppressed and are treated like
inferior, worthless properties that deserved to be beaten now and then in traditional Ibo culture. The
Ibo believe that women are weak in every aspect of life. Men insult each other by calling each other
women. An example of this is Okonwo s deep hatred and resentment for his father, Unoka, whom he
considered a woman because of his carelessness to rank high in status among the Ibo, for his laziness,
and him being an untitled man. In a kindred meeting of his peers, Okonwo unkindly tells Osugo, the
man who had contradicted him in the meeting, This meeting is for men (26). Since Osugo has taken
no title, Okonwo considers him a woman. Okonwo perceives women as being weak and does not want
to appear weak or like a woman among the Ibo. After murdering Ikemefuna,

Analysis Of The Movie Thinking Outside The Idiot Box ...
The Evolution of Television Show s As television viewers, we tend to slouch in front of this electrical
box after a long day s work, many of us don t think or know about how much television programming
has changed since our parent s childhood. In Thinking outside the Idiot Box by Dana Stevens and
Watching TV Makes You Smarter by Steven Johnson, both writers give their thoughts and opinions
about how television programming has evolved over the last three decades. These gentlemen
recognize that the days of slap stick comedy were over and replace by more sophisticated stories. This
new brand of programs have provide a step stoning for the evolution of television to gain momentum.
Although similar in many ways, Johnson and Stevens differ markedly in their approach on this topic.
On one hand, you have Dana Stevens takes a more negative approach, devalues television programs
based on how their narratives are making us dumber and plots being buried under too much useless
information causing misunderstanding about a show s content. However, Steven Johnson takes a
positive stance, promoting the way shows like 24, The Apprentice, and The Sopranos have evolved
their narrative and plots to balance out the influx of new information being given to the audience.
Regardless, television programming has become a more complex product based on the success of
better narratives and plot formatting that captures an audience s

The Character Elbow in Shakespeare s Play, Measure for Measure
In Act 2, scene 1 of the play Measure for Measure the character Elbow, a representation of the
Comedic Constable often depicted in William Shakespeare s comedies and traji comedies, gives the
director an unusual creative license in portraying this figure to give the audience a rich theatrical
experience. (Evans 427) These characters are most commonly depicted as artless, inadequate, naïve,
and prosaic men who bumble through their official duties, sublimely unaware of their blunders, intent
upon fulfilling their offices even when they are not really sure just what those offices are. (Evans 427)

In this scene Elbow s misplacing creates a atmosphere of topsy turvydom, wherein the judges are

Dogberry Verges scenes in Much Ado About Nothing. (Bennett 31)
Elbow has just shortly entered the court in a rather loud commotion with Froth and Pompey, whom he
is pushing along and leading by their elbows. He has raised accusations against them and has come to
have the courts investigate and give ruling on the matter. Elbow approaches with them to Angelo, who
is seated in the Duke s chair in place of his absence, and Escalus, who is standing on his right beside
him. Elbow s appearance is neat as he wears a badge signifying his position as constable, but burdened

Every wireless mobility devices tries to find the access point through probe request using a unique
name that is the Service Set Identifier (SSID) of the network to make automatic authentication. The
users are usually unaware of which basic service set (BSS) they belong to. When the user physically
moves the laptop from one room to another, the BSS used could change because of moving from the
area covered by one access point to the area covered by another access point, but this does not affect
the connectivity of the laptop. In this paper we are going to study how a mobility device

Depression Is Not Only A State Of Feeling Sad
Depression is not only a state of feeling sad, it is an illness that overpowers the ability to feel emotion,
whether bad or good. Depression involves the mind, and it also involves the body and thoughts. This
disorder can be passed down through genes or can be caused by a chemical imbalance in the brain. A
biological cause of this disorder would be something such as enlarged adrenal glands. People who are
depressed have a lower count of neurotransmitters involved with depression. An imbalance of
hormones can also be connected to depression, therefore, when having too high of count of a hormone
related to stress in particular (cortisol), depression may occur. Unfortunately, depression affects twenty
percent of all Americans. Women are more likely to become depressed than men. Genes also have a
lot to do with Depression. While studying twins, scientists have found that there is a powerful genetic
influence in depression. Identical twins are three times more possible to have depression than fraternal
twins raised in the same environment. In lecture we discussed that rates of MDD are two times greater
in those with firs degree relatives. Symptoms caused by major depression can vary from person to
person. Although depression may occur only one time during a person s life, some people have
multiple episodes of depression. During these episodes, symptoms occur most of the day, nearly every
day for two weeks and may include: feeling sad and hopeless, and loss of interest, as

The Pros And Consequences Of Overfishing
All around the world fishing fleets are growing both in quantity and size, and are fishing at a
dangerous rate. Overfishing has been the root cause of the drastic drop in sea wildlife at rates too high
for fish and whale species to replace themselves, this issue gained attention in the mid 20th century
and led the creation of regulation organization policies both from state governments and the
organizations. For the past three decades overfishing is still an ongoing environmental issue, there is
international support invested in bringing awareness and developing methods to save what has been
lost, but there is also international opposition due to the actors either fighting to keep regulations at a
minimum or looking for exceptions or loopholes to the regulations, actors are also just not complying
with the set regulations. This paper will focus on examining two environmental regimes, fisheries
depletion and whaling, both regimes share a number of similarities in regards to being a global
commons issue, nature of agreements, and economic profit industries working against them, but they
had different outcomes.
In comparison to each other, the fishery depletion regime has had a low level of effectiveness while
the whaling regime has had a medium level of effectiveness, the aim of this paper is to identify what
caused the difference in outcomes. The first part of the paper will be divided into two sections

The Theme Of Symbolism In The Kite Runner
The tree was ours (27). Symbols in literature can represent a multitude ideas and there is no shortage
of important symbols in The Kite Runner. However, in Khaled Hosseini s The Kite Runner, one
important reoccurring symbol is the pomegranate tree which drives the theme of love and
relationships and is a physical symbol of progression throughout the novel. The recurring symbol of
the pomegranate can be viewed as a physical symbol of progression and time passing throughout the
novel. The pomegranate tree is first mentioned in Amir and Hassan s youth when they sit under it for
shade and Amir will read to Hassan. The tree is indicative of their childhood innocence and the times
they share. Hosseini states Sitting cross legged, sunlight and shadows of pomegranate leaves dancing
on his face, Hassan absently plucked blades of grass from the ground as I read him stories he couldn t
read for himself (28). Here Amir and Hassan are children sitting under a tree and enjoying their
innocence. The next time the pomegranate tree is brought up in the novel is after the pivotal scene of
Hassan being sexually abused by Assef and Amir watching while doing nothing to help. Amir is
ashamed that he did not take action and can barely function. Hassan invites Amir to go with him to
hike up the hill to the pomegranate tree and Amir accepts the invitation. As they approach the tree,

Synopsis of scientifically accurate sci fi: The sci fi will be a narrative of astronauts who are traveling
in space on a mission. It will center around their worries of recent signs of their deteriorating health. It
will discuss the damage radiation has dome to their bodies, and how that impacts their career as an
astronaut. It will also discuss their attempts to decrease the damage space radiation does by increasing
the protection level of their spacecraft, decreasing the amount of exposure they get by traveling faster
in space, and decreasing the frequency of travel.
We look up at the sky at night for stars whose light only shines bright enough for us to see on a clear
day with no light pollution. Aside from those twinkling dots, space looks quiet and peaceful. However,
that cannot be farther from the truth. Invisible to us are numerous different types of radiation that are
incredibly harmful to human beings.
Space radiation can be separated into two large categories: electromagnetic radiation and particle
radiation. Electromagnetic radiation are electromagnetic waves, or photons, that are emitted by
astronomical bodies and travel in all frequencies (Auger, 1964). Particle radiation, on the other hand,
are charged particles traveling at high speeds, protons, and even nuclei of other heavier elements.
These particles tend to travel near the speed of light, so fast that their electrons are completely striped

Essay on Paradise by Toni Morrison
Paradise by Toni Morrison
Nine patriarchs found a town. Four women flee a life. Only one paradise is attained. Toni Morrison s
novel Paradise revolves around the concept of paradise, and those who believe they have it and those
who actually do. Morrison uses a town and a former convent, each with its own religious center, to tell
her tale about finding solace in an oppressive world. Whether fleeing inter and intra racial conflict or
emotional hurt, the characters travel a path of self isolation and eventual redemption. In her novel
Paradise, Toni Morrison uses the town of Ruby and four broken women to demonstrate how paradise
can not be achieved through isolation, but rather only through understanding and acceptance. ... Show

The citizens begin to associate with the outside world that had once despised them, and they became
eager to get away and try someplace else (6). The town of Haven had gone from feet to belly in fifty
years (5) and because of this the New Fathers decide to dismantle the Oven and relocate. The New
Fathers sought to keep the dream of a paradise alive because they knew what they might become if
they did not begin anew (6). Fifteen families pack their bags and leave to found the town of Ruby, a
town isolated by ninety miles from anything.
Just like its predecessor, Ruby is founded on the concept that isolation equals protection. The citizens
view Ruby as a fortress [they] bought and built up and [which they had] to keep everybody locked in
or out (213). It is a town where outsider and enemy are . . . two words [that] mean the same thing

paradise, the citizens did not build anything to serve a traveler: no diner, no police, no gas station, no
public phone, no movie house, no hospital (12).

History and Moral Development of Mental Health Treatment and Involuntary Commitment The
history of involuntary commitment has been developed and created through the history of mental
illness and the constructs of society. Government policy has been created to treat mental illness and
this philosophy of mental illness and its treatment goes as far back as Greek Mythology. The belief
about mental illness has changed throughout history and at times thought to be due to, possession of
demons, reversion to an animalistic level of consciousness, a sinful state of the soul, a chemical

Hamilton, 1971). Hippocrates believed that mental illness had a physical and a rational explanation
and rejected the views of his time that considered illness to be caused by superstitions and by
possession of evil spirits. Additionally, he recommended that the treatment of mental illness should be
conducted in an asylum, a secure and safe retreat from the chaos and pressures of the environment,
rather than having persons with mental illness whipped in public, or incarcerated in dungeons
(Stevens, D. 1997). Soranus of Ephesus lived in the century 98 A.D. in Rome, and was a physician of
women and childbirth. Soranus believed that the human body is composed of atoms constantly in

discovery that schizophrenia might be caused by a defective chromosome number six, Soranus view

Although, Soranus described mental illness as an organic disturbance, he treated it by psychological

Odour of Chrysanthemums as a Classic Essay
Odour of Chrysanthemums as a Classic
The claim that Odour of Chrysanthemums is a well crafted story is hardly brave or risky, for many
would agree. For instance, the man who in a sense discovered Lawrence, English Review editor F. M.
Ford, said this about Odour of Chrysanthemums :
The very title makes an impact on the mind. You get at once the knowledge that this is not, whatever
else it may turn out, either a frivolous or even a gay springtime story. Chrysanthemums are not only
flowers of the autumn: they are the autumn itself. . . This man knows what he wants. He sees the scene

This is Elizabeth s epiphany. Her husband, a seemingly familiar fixture in her life, was ultimately a
stranger to her. Her shock at realizing this suggests that some deep seated belief of hers has turned out
false. Perhaps Elizabeth incorrectly assumed that marriage implied a special connection between
husband and wife. Whatever the belief, this realization coupled with her husband s sudden death leads
to an acute sense of loneliness which is the most unique aspect of the story. If we can attribute the
unusual success of Odour of Chrysanthemums to those unique aspects which distinguish it from other
stories, then perhaps the unique, final moment is key evidence in the search for the reasons why Odour
of Chrysanthemums is successful.
Furthermore, the epiphany must be considered carefully, for it is of vital importance to the story and
its readers perceptions of it. The position of the epiphany in the story s structure clearly suggests its
importance. If the moment when Elizabeth discovers that her husband is dead

Analysis Of Three Cups Of Tea
Three Cups of Tea by David Oliver Relin and Greg Mortenson tells a story that takes the reader along
an adventure, up mountains, and across the world. Mortenson is a mountaineer that ends up in Korphe,
Pakistan after he fails to climb K2. It is here where he sees poverty unlike anywhere he has yet to be.
Mortenson, struck by shock, promises to come back to the small village and build a school in hopes of
turning the place around. He ends up raising enough money to fulfil his promise, being promoted to
the director of the Central Asia Institute which build schools across the country, and begins to focus
more on girls education. Throughout the novel, the overall tone was direct and straightforward, and it
is essentially journalistic due to the third person point of view and changing narration. Mortenson
discovers a purpose from the result of being lost in a quest to fulfil his duty of director and the
continuation of being a humanitarian in these developing countries which is one of the author s
purposes of writing this book. In Three Cups of Tea, there are many points in time when Mortenson
thinks he has gone in the wrong direction, but ironically ends up right where he needs to be after all
which ends up being the main theme of the book: making the best out of a bad situation.
The theme is one that many people should be able to relate to: anyone can turn a bad situation into a
good one. For instance, when Mortenson could not reach the peak of K2, he is disappointed, however

The Hypocritical Church Essay
In the medieval literary masterpiece The Canterbury Tales, written by Geoffrey Chaucer, not only does
Chaucer provide the reader with an entertaining story about a group of approximately thirty pilgrims
who meet (by chance) at an inn, in a suburb of London, on a trip to see the shrine of St. Thomas #225;
Becket in Canterbury cathedral, but he also divulges to the reader a remarkably horrid picture of an
English Church run amok with corruption, greed and, more importantly, hypocrisy.
Writing about pilgrims drawn from almost every rank of 14th century English society, The Canterbury
Tales takes a look at medieval life from (what seems like) every angle and every class, displaying the
actuality of the Church by illuminating and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
First, the bald and oversized Monk that Chaucer tells of is entirely undisciplined. His taste was all for
tracking down hare, meaning he engaged in a forbidden pastime for monks, hunting. He was
fashionable, with sleeves trimmed with gray fur, the finest in the land, and he was fond of precious
metals, wearing a pin made of wrought gold. The Monk is a mere pleasure seeker who relished a plum
swan as his favorite roast. The Prioress, in comparison, has a much more shallow aura about her. She
kept small dogs as pets, which, of course, were forbidden in convents during medieval times, and even
more repugnant, her dogs were fed roasted meat or milk or good wheat bread. Chaucer tell us, She
would weep if she but came upon a mouse caught in a trap, if it were dead or bleeding, implying that
she cares more about the suffering of animals than people. Chaucer uses a barrage of satirical
statements when describing and discussing the Prioress, giving the reader the impression that she
actually contradicts her appearance. She is focused on irrelevant things such as dignity, charm and
pride, as well as wealth, as evidenced by her coral rosary beads with the brooch of golden sheen
hanging from it.
Next we are introduced to the Summoner and the Pardoner, who are two derelict peas in a pod. One of
these men summons those charged by the church for a crime, and the other sells indulgences,

In the computer and technology book The Future of the Internet and How to Stop It , the author
Jonathan L. Zittrain (2008, April 20) wants to alarm us that the internet world which we think is

Mr. Zittrain writes the book in the way that associating today s problems of the Internet with the

My family and I bought food and made lunches to give out in local parks. A act that is very commonly
done as act of giving but has such a deep element that I find is fundamental to being Catholic
Christian. The people that one meets is quite interesting. I never can quite wrap my mind around the
fact that some people do not have food, the basics. My mind always wonders to try to find a
conclusion on how a person ended up in a position where they have no food. Standing face to face
with a stranger and giving them what they need is one of the most perplexing and gratifying sensation
one can experience. At the very core of giving food to the hungry is that you gave person hope that
day, a chance to continue that day, but yet you know nothing of that person. One does not know what
the persons name is, what they like to do, where their from, what their favorite color is, what they like
to eat. Those questions will always drag my mind into a complete motley of sentiments that I can not
explain because the person is so ambiguous to me. I learned from the experience that people who are
hungry or homeless are quite numerous and that one might never know their story but that very fact is
what makes such an act unique. Giving food to the hungry is linked to Catholic teaching because that
is one of the main goals of being a person close to God. God gave us life thus humans to should give

Character Development In The Scarlet Letter By Nathanial...
The Scarlet Letter by Nathanial Hawthorne often uses character development to foreshadow the
inevitable outcome of the novel. Hawthorne wrote, And now, through the chamber which these
spectral thoughts had made so ghastly, glided Hester Prynne leading along little Pearl, in her scarlet
garb, and pointing her forefinger, first at the scarlet letter on her bosom, and then at the clergyman s
own chest. This quote foreshadows the ending of the novel, including Dimmesdale s confession and
demise. Hester Prynne and Dimmesdale both show a strong development of character throughout the
novel which all contribute to the final outcome. In this society and period of time, Hester is considered
to have deviated from the norm. Many valued and followed Puritan beliefs and it appeared as if Hester
had strayed from the path. When the novel began, she was separated from the rest of the Puritan
world, and behind the wooden door. The door symbolized sin; those on the inside have violated the
traditional beliefs of a faithful Puritan. Hester was punished for committing adultery, and therefore
was isolated from the rest of society. She is ashamed of her actions, and because of them, she is
required to wear a scarlet letter upon her breast. After attempts of covering the letter, she is informed
that it is part of her punishment and must be worn at all times. Hester is embarrassed and feels weak
due to the presence of the letter, however, this feeling soon changes as she realizes who she

Overview of Earth´s History and Periods Essay
Precambrian Era The Precambrian era laster 4600 541 million years ago. During this time, there were
no plant life on the planet. Most of the things that were on the planet were rocks. The most common
type of rock was Isua greenstone. Most rocks have been eroded away, subducted, or metamorphosed.
During this time, the atmospheres and oceans were formed, plate tectonics began to build up
continental masses. The air during this time was mostly made up of water vapor, carbon dioxide, and
nitrogen. Later on, oxygen was formed from early animals taking in carbon dioxide and releasing
oxygen. Scientists know this because oxygen was formed with iron, forming iron oxides (rust); after
there were was no more iron to mix with oxygen, so it would ... Show more content on

The anthropodes also evolved in this period, and more than 600 types evolved worldwide.
Ordovician Period The Ordovician Period lasted almost 45 million years. During this period, most of
the area was almost entirely ocean, and most of the world s land was collected into the southern
supercontinent Gondwana. Throughout the Ordovician, Gondwana was submerged underwater. This
period is best known for its animals, including graptolites, trilobites, brachiopods, and the conodonts.
Plants invaded the land during this period. The most recent types of like animal was tetrahedral spores
that are similar to land plants have been found, suggesting that plants invaded the land at this time.
Later during the period, the Earth experienced a milder climate; the weather was warm and the
atmosphere contained a lot of moisture. Although, when Gondwana finally settled on the South Pole,
massive glaciers formed, and caused shallow seas, and sea levels to drop. This most likely caused
extinctions at the end of the Ordovician in which 60% of all marine invertebrate genera and 25% of all
families went extinct. The ecosystems was still dominized by algae and sponges, and in some cases by
bryozoans. However, there apparently were also periods of complete reef collapse because to global
disturbances. The major global patterns of life went through changes during the Ordovician period.
Many species of graptolites went extinct by the close of the period, but the first planktonic

The Capture Of Megiddo And The Suez Canal
The capture of Megiddo is the capture of a thousand towns. Campaign Records of Thutmose III
Strategic Chokepoint
The Yom Kippur war (‫כיפור‬ ‫יום‬ ‫)מלחמת‬ started on October sixth, 1973 when Egyptian forces crossed
the Suez Canal in concert with Syrian allies attacking Israel from the north (Dayan, 1976, p. 24).
Israeli Defense Forces responded, defeating and eventually chasing the Egyptians back across the
Sinai and the Suez Canal. Israel upon threatening the direct military control of a strategic chokepoint,
the Suez Canal; drew immediate response from Russian military forces. What had been the defense of
Israel s homeland, resulting from an unprovoked attack, in a regional conflict suddenly elicited
superpower intervention. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The Jezreel Valley is shaped like a triangle with the bottom mirroring the Jordan River to the East and
top pointing toward the Mediterranean. The southern edge of the triangle, nearly 20 miles long, is
defined by the mountains of Carmel and Gilboa reaching almost to the Jordan River. In military
parlance, an area like Jezreel and Megiddo that reduces to a narrowed point (such as through the
Aruna Pass) is known as a fatal funnel . This is an area where an enemy can be fixed while maximized
use of weapons can be brought to bear. (Map of Megiddo Jezreel Valley) Thus, Megiddo was not only
a strategic chokepoint, but enjoyed special defensive capabilities; worthy of making Erwin Rommel to
voice his appreciation. With flat terrain to the north and mountains behind, Megiddo owners could at
any point attack from their defensive stronghold and risk almost nothing. Later, we will examine how
the geography of Megiddo affected strategic, tactical, and economic pursuits of nations.
Mobile Killing Ground
The flat terrain and open area, free of rocky outcroppings became a battleground suited for the speed,
physics, and power of chariot and cavalry warfare. The Bible records; The kings came, they fought;
then fought the kings of Canaan at Tanaach, by the waters of Megiddo setting the stage for a battle at

Cause And Effect Of Attack On Pearl Harbor
The Torpedoes that bombed Pearl Harbor
The Torpedoes that attacked Pearl Harbor caused a heavy destruction of the ships, made many lives on
the ship be lost, and the U.S was not expecting the assault, thus making it pretty much a one sided
battle Japan made a surprise attack on the United States at Pearl Harbor. They attacked to neutralize
the United States Pacific Fleet. However, the United States did not let this go lightly and planned on
getting revenge. The main reason it was a one sided battle is because the Japanese had multiple pilots
and bombers, over 100 in total, the torpedoes pierced the hull of the Battleships, despite the anti
torpedo protection, the Japanese torpedoes had all sorts of shapes and sizes, each for different
purposes.

How Did Sylvia Plath Influence Her Works
Sylvia Plath once said, It is as if my life were magically run by two electric currents: joyous positive
and despairing negative whichever is running at the moment dominates my life, floods it,
(Brainyquote). Sylvia Plath had her despairing negative moments, but she also had her joyous positive
moments. Plath was an extremely talented, unique, and creative writer and her work is still
remembered today. Plath influenced literature in a positive manner because she used her poetry to
stand up for woman, she was not afraid to speak the truth, and she threw herself into her work.
Plath s mother Aurelia Scholoer was a student at Boston University when she met Plath s father Otto

African Americans After Reconstruction Essay
The predominance of racism in the United States greatly affected the progression on the reconstruction
of the nation. Effort was needed to be given in order for the black citizens to be fully accepted into
society after the war, and most of the white people in the nation were unwilling to give this effort.
White supremacy and lack of effort both majorly hindered the reconstruction of the U.S., and the
belief that black people had to work harder to get on a level ground with white people aided in the
failure of the reconstruction. The racist whites of the nation all strongly resisted all efforts to integrate
the black people into American society. Any attempts were immediately met by a negative response
from the racist people in the nation. Fredrickson states, As such, it inevitably called forth bitter
opposition from hardcore racists, who attempted to discredit racial measures (354). Despite the
measures taken by the government to integrate society, the racists took every opportunity to discredit
all efforts taken. The racist people of the United States played a major role in the failure of efforts to
reconstruct the nation after the war due to their unwillingness to accept the integration. ... Show more

Southern whites and a lot of northern whites all took upon themselves the mentality that they were
better than the blacks because of their skin color. The new case was defined as white supremacy which
in practice allowed Southern whites to reduce the freedman to an inferior caste, as they had attempted
to do by enacting the Black Codes of 1865 (Fredrickson 354 5) White people told themselves that
black people were below them in order to justify the need for separate facilities for the different races.
White supremacy helped the belief of black people being a lower species to contaminate the efforts of
radical reconstruction, and it ultimately damaged the reconstruction

Explain Why The Marking Period Ends On Friday

This was not a pleasant surprise because almost all my assignments were messing for my AP literature
class. Senioritis had definitely gotten to me. I had no motive to do the work because they appeared
long and frustrating. Along with being under the impression that I would receive full credit despite
them being tremendously late. Wondering how I would finish almost eight assignments gave me
anxiety but I knew could finish if I took the time out to do it.
In jeopardy of failing I still went about my week as usual. Wednesday arrives and I still have not
touched one of the assignments, but my conscious did not reprimand me for not doing my homework.

Breath Eyes Memory Trauma
Imagine being a young girl living in Haiti, enjoying your day and suddenly you are being raped. What
if every night your mother tested you, against your will, to see if you were still whole . In the book
Breath, Eyes, Memory by Edwidge Danticat, characters experience a lot of trauma and they react to it
in many ways. The main character Sophie and her mother, Martine, both internalize their trauma at the
beginning of the book, but throughout the course of the book Sophie learns that it is okay to talk about
and share her experiences. However, Martine continues to run away from reminders of the experiences
that happened. Martine also struggles being near Sophie because she is a constant reminder of her
rape. Edwidge Danticat uses conveys the reactions to trauma through the characters actions after.
Martine and Sophie both struggle to deal with their traumatic experiences and suffering, in a healthy
way, throughout the book.
The author uses the character s experiences to highlight their reaction to trauma. While Sophie is in
New York she constantly has to wake her mother up because she fears the nightmares will kill her.

Analysis Of The Log From The Sea Of Cortez
Enduring Perspectives
By studying the history of Native Americans, we can understand some of their characteristics,
qualities, and perspectives regarding America s landscape. Many of these still persist today in either
the original or a mutated form. The Native American quality of living unsustainably persists today in
various forms because it is difficult to notice an unsustainable lifestyle. John Steinbeck, Barry Lopez,
and Scott Momaday in The Log From the Sea of Cortez, The American Geographies, and The Way to
Rainy Mountain describe this effect.
Today, it is easy to look back and see that Native Americans, including the Micmac, lived
unsustainable lifestyles. The Micmac s economy revolved around trading small animals (e.g. beavers).
Their desire for European goods provided an incentive to deplete the animal population (Merchant
13). A problem with this lifestyle is that it is difficult to know that the animal s population is being
depleted until it is too late.
The Native Americans of the Great Plains centered their economy on the buffalo. The Native
Americans used difficult techniques (e.g. tricking them to fall off cliffs) to catch the buffalo, which
was unsustainable considering how important the Buffalos were for them (Merchant 16). When the
horse arrived the Native Americans became more efficient hunters. However, their lives became less
sustainable because they became dependent on the horse and buffalo population. Again, this is a
problem because it is difficult

  • 2. The Ubiquitous Mobile Essay The Ubiquitous Mobile Snap!Snap!Snap! Your privacy has just been invaded by someone who has taken a photo of you in the dressing room, with their new camera mobile phone! Is this what the latest technology intended to provide for us? I don t think so, and this is why I think mobile phones can be a really distracting, and in this case, an offensive tool, despite being a powerful form of telecommunication. These always, new up and coming devices can cause financial hardships, by people changing life style habits just to accommodate the purchase of them. Most people are aware of this, however their immutable minds doesn t stop reminding them to send that extra SMS message or dial that extra number. Mobile phones take over our lives, or ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The financial expenses, which have accumilated from mobile phones, have been quite dangerous to particular people. Like pouring water out of a leaking bottle, money has been wasted out of many people s banks and financial accounts because of mobiles. Not only can mobile phones be financially challenging but they can also be physically dangerous. Recent studies have shown that the high level of radiation coming through the antenna while speaking on the mobile, can critically affect your body by alpha radiation particles mutating a cell, which goes on to divide and divide, causing a malignant tumor cancer. So, when all s said and done, mobile phones do have its negative side, and in my opinion it s negative side is in complete dominance over its positive attributes. These types of phones can dramatically change people s life styles or even terminate them! Life styles have often been altered immensely through many life changing events such as: marriage, births and deaths, diseases, disorders and the like. But however, none of these examples really were in people s will power, and mobile phones are in other people s hands and in people s strength in mind. So, is it our latest generations which want to modify their good life style habits in order to make mobile phones their number one priority, because of their eye catching features and miraculous ... • 3. Free Trade Vs Fair Trade Introduction Adam Smith, author of The Wealth of Nations, shows support for free trade and emphasises it as a trade policy which ought to be adopted. Krugman and Obstfeld back Smith s support by stating that the efficiency of trade is increased by free trade and accumulates the national income of countries. Free trade is a theory which suggests that each nation benefits in specialising in an economic activity from which it gains absolute advantage, enjoying absolute superiority over other nations in a specif economical activity (Peng). With free trade follows opportunity, replacing regulation and growth of economic activity. (Rugmann and Collinson). Arguments for free trade Trading Barriers If nations adopted a free trading policy ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... McDonald and Burton clarify that infant industries can feel supported into growth (and sometimes beyond) by the trade policy of protectionism and tariff barriers. This form of strategic protectionism enables industries seeking to grow to enjoy the benefits of first mover advantages, a concept of specialising in producing and exporting only those goods and services which it can produce more efficiently (Investopedia) and the benefits of economies of scales. A prime example of this is Amazon, the first online bookstore. By gaining the first mover advantage into the markets, it has gained and maintained dominance over many firms. Firms have adopted the concepts and practices such as retailers like Barnes and Nobles. Professer Marvin Lieberman and David Montgomery, Stanford University, conclude that first mover advantage can be gained from technology leadership, control of resources and buyer switching costs after gaining the opportunity to access the pioneering stage of a concept. Free Trading Areas Free trade areas, FTA, are economic integration arrangements in which barriers to trade (e.g. tariffs), exchange of goods and information among member nations are removed. It is arguable to say that fair trade aims to create equilibrium between LEDC s, less economically developed countries and developed nations in terms of trading activities and ethics. In saying this, free trading between more economically developed countries and LEDC s will mean ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. Different Aspects Of School Involvement Towards Health And... Different aspects of school involvement towards health and wellness has long been thought to influence students. Research argues that health promoting lifestyle activities maintain or improve individual s health and wellness (reference). Researchers suggest that health promotion includes a process of empowerment of the community to act on the improvement of their life and health qualities (research) A closer look into a healthy lifestyle begins at childhood. Healthy lunches promote physical activity and healthy diets. School lunches need to have nutritional value and a well balanced nutrition scale including fruits, grains, vegetables, protein and dairy. Recess enhances health and academic benefits. Recess involves more than just stimulating indoor activities, but also simply thirty minutes of exercise outside. Moreover, the healthy lifestyle needs promotion by an authoritative figure or institution. Many students rely on teachers, principals, nurses, etc. to teach them the essentials of health because parents may lack the knowledge to do so. In a school setting, health promotion entails providing students with educational courses, activities, school lunches, and recess. She explains that the universe is always subject to change and that there is always a cause and effect: similar to women; body changes, such as, breast, vulva, hair, and womb. In part two of the book she presents the notion of territory. She illustrates that men are able to be free and women give up their secrets and men are the first to know. Then she speaks about how women are expected to be loyal and patriarchy even though men screw them over at the end, which is the same action that men do to the earth with possession, use and exploration. As explained previously, Griffin, states that women are looked upon as to caring, weak, sensitive, smart less, and not strong enough. She uses a unique context to express the separation of men and nature. She stated, He says that woman speaks with nature. That she hears voices from under the earth. That wind blows in her ears and trees whisper to her. That the dead sing through her mouth and the cries of infants are clear to her. But for him this dialogue is over. He says he is not part of this world, that he was set on this world as a stranger. He sets himself apart from woman and nature. (Griffin,2000, p.67. We will learn about how networks work and about the different types of them. You will also learn about all of the Physical devices in a network which make it work. The First Type of network we will talk about it LAN this stands Local Area Network. LAN networks can range in size from two computers, but the size is limitless from there the only restriction is hardware. One example of a LAN is your home network you have different device that connect to each other to get a service, which is the internet. LANs use the IEEE standards to make sure there is inter compatibility between different hardware from different manufacturers on LANs. LANs also use a range of protocols to help provide different functions, for example LANs use the TCP/IP protocol suite to communicate with WANs such as the internet. LANs may also use the token ring protocol to control network access also they may use Fibre Distributed Data Interface to provide a backbone for LANs spread over large distances. Normally LANs in a corporate network can be a mixture of wireless and wired connections they use different technologies to avoid network collisions. The best way to think of network collisions is like a tunnel with cars going through and if two cars want to go down the same lane at the same time they will collide this would prevent the car from getting to its destination, this is the same ... • 12. Gender Roles And Gender Development Gender and sex are not synonymous, although they are often used interchangeably. Sex is a biological term and defined as the categories of male or female of the sum total of biological attributes on which this distinction is based within a species (Colman, 2009). Gender, however is a social construct and consists of gender role, gender identity and sexual orientation / preference. Gender identity is a sense of awareness, usually beginning in infancy, continuing through childhood, and reaching maturing in adolescence, of being male or female, or of the gender associated with one s biological sex . Gender role is defined as a set of behaviour patterns, attitudes, and personality characteristics stereotypically perceived as masculine or feminine within a culture (Colman, 2009). Understanding gender development is important because the perception of gender identity affects the roles individuals play in society. If the reason behind the gender differences can be understood, they can be minimised to develop a more gender equal society. Also, research into gender development has real world applications. In many aspects of psychological research, gender differences can affect results. This can be reduced through gender equality. If consuming meat involves the production of factory farming and health risks the consuming meat is not good. If consuming meat is not good, one should become a vegetarian. Therefore one should become a vegetarian. A suitable beginning would be to define a factory farm. A factory farm is a large, industrial operation. It raises large numbers of animals for food. About nine billion animals live in factory farms to live a miserable existence. Newborns torn from their mom days after being born. Sometimes even hours. They are then transported and kept in small cages. Or their is life in cramped and overcrowded pens. Males in egg farms are not valuable. Tens of thousands of them are into the trash because their meat is unsuitable. They are also ground alive into feed for other animals. Male calves of dairy cows eat liquid and iron deficient diets. They are in crates for their lives that keep them as immobile as possible. This is to keep their muscles weak and tender. Most of these animals at these farms are indoors. Few are able to live happy lives. Because of this they are unable to fulfill their instinctual urges. They become psychotic, neurotic and have repetitive behaviors. Many become cannibalistic. The animals are also give a consistent regimen of antibiotics and growth hormones. To keep disease and death away. Factory farming and non intensive family farms animals could have surgical modifications such as beak, toe, tail removal, ear tagging and clipping, teeth removal, branding, dehorning, castration and ovary removal (QUOTE). Due to the high cost of anesthesia this is all performed without it. During transportation to the slaughterhouse many animals die. Due to starvation or freezing to death. The animals who are unable to walk are downers (QUOTE) and die in the yard. Animals with fur die in the wild. Or they live in small cages and fed each other s remains. They are then killed by anal electrocution so their pelts are not marred. Factory farming is immoral and has turned many people to vegetarianism. Another reason would be this argument. They do not contain a nucleus, and are unicellular. Bacteria are the most abundant microorganism. They are among the earliest forms of life that appeared on earth billions of years ago. They can grow in different temperatures and many exist naturally in our human flora, such as staphylococci. Growth within different temperatures can range from 0 degrees Celsius such as psychrotrophs, to hyperthermophiles who grown best above 70 degrees Celsius (Ritchey, Exercise 16). Bacteria have many shapes, size, and multicell arrangements. The main bacteria shapes are cocci (spherical or ovoid shaped), bacilli (straight rods), coccobacillus (short rods), fusiform bacillus (rod shaped bacilli with tapered ends), vibrio (curved rods), spirillum (single spiral bacteria), and spirochete (if it is flexible and undulating). Bacteria can form multicell arrangements, such as diplococcus (two cell arrangements) (. Bacteria are usually named for their shape or multicell arrangement, but cannot be truly identified by just those characteristics (Strelkauskas, Edwards, Fanhert, Pryor, 2016). In 2015, only about four percent of Thailand s citizens aged fifteen and over were illiterate. This ends up positively contributing to a wide variety of social improvements, such as lower infant mortality rates and higher education levels for future generations. The same goes for length of education as well the more education they received, the more education they will likely expect their child to experience. The Character Elbow in Shakespeare s Play, Measure for Measure In Act 2, scene 1 of the play Measure for Measure the character Elbow, a representation of the Comedic Constable often depicted in William Shakespeare s comedies and traji comedies, gives the director an unusual creative license in portraying this figure to give the audience a rich theatrical experience. (Evans 427) These characters are most commonly depicted as artless, inadequate, naïve, and prosaic men who bumble through their official duties, sublimely unaware of their blunders, intent upon fulfilling their offices even when they are not really sure just what those offices are. (Bennett 31) Elbow has just shortly entered the court in a rather loud commotion with Froth and Pompey, whom he is pushing along and leading by their elbows. He has raised accusations against them and has come to have the courts investigate and give ruling on the matter. Elbow approaches with them to Angelo, who is seated in the Duke s chair in place of his absence, and Escalus, who is standing on his right beside him. • 29. Depression Is Not Only A State Of Feeling Sad Depression is not only a state of feeling sad, it is an illness that overpowers the ability to feel emotion, whether bad or good. Depression involves the mind, and it also involves the body and thoughts. This disorder can be passed down through genes or can be caused by a chemical imbalance in the brain. A biological cause of this disorder would be something such as enlarged adrenal glands. People who are depressed have a lower count of neurotransmitters involved with depression. An imbalance of hormones can also be connected to depression, therefore, when having too high of count of a hormone related to stress in particular (cortisol), depression may occur. Unfortunately, depression affects twenty percent of all Americans. Women are more likely to become depressed than men. Genes also have a lot to do with Depression. While studying twins, scientists have found that there is a powerful genetic influence in depression. Identical twins are three times more possible to have depression than fraternal twins raised in the same environment. In lecture we discussed that rates of MDD are two times greater in those with firs degree relatives. Symptoms caused by major depression can vary from person to person. However, in Khaled Hosseini s The Kite Runner, one important reoccurring symbol is the pomegranate tree which drives the theme of love and relationships and is a physical symbol of progression throughout the novel. The recurring symbol of the pomegranate can be viewed as a physical symbol of progression and time passing throughout the novel. The pomegranate tree is first mentioned in Amir and Hassan s youth when they sit under it for shade and Amir will read to Hassan. The tree is indicative of their childhood innocence and the times they share. Hosseini states Sitting cross legged, sunlight and shadows of pomegranate leaves dancing on his face, Hassan absently plucked blades of grass from the ground as I read him stories he couldn t read for himself (28). Here Amir and Hassan are children sitting under a tree and enjoying their innocence. The next time the pomegranate tree is brought up in the novel is after the pivotal scene of Hassan being sexually abused by Assef and Amir watching while doing nothing to help. Toni Morrison s novel Paradise revolves around the concept of paradise, and those who believe they have it and those who actually do. The Monk is a mere pleasure seeker who relished a plum swan as his favorite roast. The Prioress, in comparison, has a much more shallow aura about her. Wondering how I would finish almost eight assignments gave me anxiety but I knew could finish if I took the time out to do it. In jeopardy of failing I still went about my week as usual. Wednesday arrives and I still have not touched one of the assignments, but my conscious did not reprimand me for not doing my homework. Thursday comes and finally Friday and I receive the ... Analysis Of The Log From The Sea Of Cortez Enduring Perspectives By studying the history of Native Americans, we can understand some of their characteristics, qualities, and perspectives regarding America s landscape. Many of these still persist today in either the original or a mutated form. The Native American quality of living unsustainably persists today in various forms because it is difficult to notice an unsustainable lifestyle. John Steinbeck, Barry Lopez, and Scott Momaday in The Log From the Sea of Cortez, The American Geographies, and The Way to Rainy Mountain describe this effect. Today, it is easy to look back and see that Native Americans, including the Micmac, lived unsustainable lifestyles. The Micmac s economy revolved around trading small animals (e.g. beavers). Their desire for European goods provided an incentive to deplete the animal population (Merchant 13). A problem with this lifestyle is that it is difficult to know that the animal s population is being depleted until it is too late. The Native Americans used difficult techniques (e.g. tricking them to fall off cliffs) to catch the buffalo, which was unsustainable considering how important the Buffalos were for them (Merchant 16). When the horse arrived the Native Americans became more efficient hunters. However, their lives became less sustainable because they became dependent on the horse and buffalo population. Again, this is a problem because it is difficult ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
