The debate about legalization of drugs (marijuana) is a controversial and divisive issue that has
been around for a long time. Even though there are those who fight for its legalization, there are
also those who vehemently wage war against it. Former Secretary of Education and a director of
National Drug Control William J. Bennett says, There is a great deal to say about our national
drug policy, [...] they are against it (546). Wars on drugs have been going on for decades and
many have given up, calling it a lost cause (Bennett 547). Many lives have been cut short due to
the use of illicit drugs. The US Department of Justice National Drug Intelligence Center ran a
poll in 2002 that concluded that an estimated 35.1 million people aged 12 or older reported using
an illegal drug within the past year; approximately 3.2 million people were drug dependent or
drug abusers (Hartnett). Those who advocate for the drug to be legalized have their own reasons
and believe it will be for the good of everyone. Those who do not agree with the legalization have
their reasons as well, believing it will be an adversarial undertaking.

offense from deeper involvement in the juvenile justice system (Deling, 2014).
Characteristically, juvenile delinquency follows a similar path just like normal adolescent
development and children tend to follow delinquent and criminal behavior rather than engaging in it
randomly. Research has shown that there are two types of delinquents, those in whom the onset of
severe antisocial behavior begins in early childhood, and those in whom this onset coincides with
entry into adolescence. With either type, these developmental paths give families, communities, and

Guy Vanderhaeghe s The Last Crossing is a Western of subtly crossed borders. Vanderhaeghe
elicits a sense of blurred lines between opposites, giving the illusion that boundaries are not so
statically fixed. The historical figure Jerry Potts illustrates that the division between Indigenous and
white is not so easily distinguished by ways of appearances, languages, and relations. The lines of

Introduction New York City is composed of some of the world s most unique and eccentric
neighborhoods the world has ever seen. Amongst these neighborhoods, one can expect to find
Bushwick (Community District 4) and Williamsburg (Community District 1), nestled in in the
northern tip of Brooklyn borough. The earliest colonizers included the Dutch, French,
Scandinavians, and English farmers. Today, however, the spectrum of racial distribution has
changed drastically in which the top ethnic groups include Puerto Rican, African American,
Dominican, Ecuadorian, and Mexican, Polish, Italian, and Hasidic Jews. Both neighborhoods
have an abnormally large rate of preventable illness and death issues. Reasons as to why these
districts are facing such high illness rates could be because of language barriers, economic
conditions, and lack of a primary care physician monitoring health. Since the majority of
individuals living in Bushwick and Williamsburg are of foreign descent, it is only feasible to
hypothesize that language barriers pose as a major obstacle for receiving quality health care. Many

Shakespeare s impressive use of metaphor, simile, or image in Richard II makes it become one of
the greatest English work in the world literature. Among these rhetorical effects, the metaphor is all
over the place in the work. However, the type of metaphor considered to be one of the most
significant during Richard II is the gardening metaphor. The garden scene, which is from Act 3,
scene 4 of the play, has successfully provided the perspective of a subject a gardener about the
kingdom at present and the sound, reasonable nature of the overthrown.
The garden scene starts by the instruction that the gardener gives to his serving man.
Go, bind thou up yon dangling apricokes,
Which, like unruly children, make their sire
Stoop with oppression of their prodigal weight:
Give some supportance to the bending twigs. (3.4.32 5)
In this passage, the tree refers to England. The current condition of the tree is bad, as their fruits
the apricokes stoop with oppression of their prodigal weight . The apricokes here may imply
Richard s bad ruling of England. The word prodigal is such a wise word choice, as it not only
literally describes the weight of apricokes, but also may emphasize Richard s spendthrift lifestyle.
Through the gardener s guidance of how to take care of the tree, he criticizes Richard s poor
reigning and expresses his grief for the country s state.
Go thou, and like an executioner,
Cut off the heads of too fast growing sprays,
That look too lofty in our commonwealth:
All must be even in our government.
You thus employed, I will go root away
The noisome weeds, which without profit suck

At the beginning of this passage, the gardener appears to regard the fast growing sprays to
Richard himself, as he describes the sprays to be too lofty in our commonwealth . After seeing
England under Richard s reign, the gardener wishes to take actions to bring fairness to the country.
However, in the rest of the passage, the gardener does not seem to mention Richard, but his
worthless followers the noisome weeds who do not help him to rule the country but use him for
their greediness. The
