What Is The Mood Of The Passionate Christopherd To His Love
Difference between The Passionate Shepherd to His Love and The Nymph s Reply to the
Shepherd The Passionate Shepherd to His Love by Christopher Marlowe and The Nymph s Reply
to the Shepherd by Sir Walter Raleigh are pastorals that express the author s feelings and thoughts
about nature of love. These two poems differ with each other in their tone, imagery and point of
view. In The Passionate Shepherd to His Love, Christopher Marloweshows his idea that love is a
passion expressed by material substance and his hope that love is long lasted by the support of
such gifts. In contrast, in The Nymph s Reply to the Shepherd , Sir Walter Raleighdiscusses fancy
material matters are superficial as well as fleeting, thus love blustered by materialism will not last

U.s. Foreign Tax Credit
The income earned by the U.S. individuals and corporations in the foreign countries or foreign
source are taxed by the U.S. government, even though other countries also tax any income earned
within their borders. To offset this double taxation of income by two different countries, the U.S.
grants both individuals and corporations a foreign taxcredit (FTC) that can be used to offset
income taxes assessed by a foreign country on the income earned there (Foreign Tax Credit, FTC,
n.d.). The FTC is allowable for foreign income taxes and other similar taxes, such as excess profit
and war profit taxes. However, only income taxes qualify for the credit. The Value Added Taxes
(VAT) and property, sales and severance taxes do not qualify, although they may be deductible.
Eligible FTC Income
The foreign tax credit can only reduce U.S. taxes on foreign source income; it cannot reduce U.S.
taxes on U.S. source income. It is generally better to take a credit for qualified foreign taxes than
to deduct them as an itemized deduction because credit reduces the tax liability dollar for dollar.
(Foreign Tax Credit Choosing To Take Credit or Deduction, n.d. ).
Claiming a deduction may be preferable to claiming the foreign tax credit if the foreign tax rate
and the proportion of foreign income to United States income is high. The tax should be computed
both ways to determine the larger benefit. Unless the de minimis exception applies, the FTC is
calculated on Form 1116. Corporations must file

David Herbert Lawrence s Moral And Mental Issues
David Herbert Lawrence was born on 11 September 1885 in Eastwood, Nottinghamshire(Becket
6). He lived in a poor family. His literary books generated mass contradictions and some of his
books were banned because of offensive content. He was affected by the old traditions of the 19th
century and the new ideals of the early 20th century. (Christinat iii). Lawrentian novels were full
of poor dissenters and used these kinds of people for taking ideas for his writings. Also, some
critics assert that there is no contact between his autobiography and writings. His themes are about
the power of immoral energy, political philosophy, romantic nature, spheres of desire and language,
sexuality, human existence, self growth, solution of conflict, selfhood, otherness, and blood
consciousness. He is a kind of writer who opens the various doors to critical viewpoints.Worthern
stated that Lawrence had ethical education in a big assembly of Eastwood and trained himself
both in moral and mental issues (1991a: 64 8). He got help from various sermons and temperance
systems to improve his morality. Ethics and language both helped him to make his personality very
well.He uses in his works the sense of togetherness, Englishness, renewing morality and religious
faith. As it was mentioned by Fiona Beckett that such poets as Mallarme who had a big effect in
French Symbolism impressed Lawrence very much. Wilhelm Worringer s Abstraction and Empathy
(1908) attracted Lawrence for abstraction and new

Research Paper On Ivory
Ivory Is it worth it?
Everyday elephants and rhinos are being poached in order to get their tusks and horns. These
tusks and horns are made of ivory which is sold for very large sums. Many things are being done
to stop poaching but elephants and rhinos are still being poached.
People in Asia mainly China are the main buyers of ivory from illegally poached rhinos and
elephants. The ivory business is a multi million dollar business. They buy elephant tusks for $1,500
per pound. Rhino horns are $45,000 per pound, or $6,000 for 100 grams. Many things are trying
to be done but there is still illegal ivory trading. There is a near total ban on ivory in the US. The
Chinese government has become stricter so people trade in Vietnam and Laos where there is a
less strict government. The main buyers of ivory are in Asia but people don t want to change their
ways so many people still participate in the business of ivory trading.
Elephants and rhinos are disappearing at an alarming rate due to illegal poaching. Many elephants
are being killed everyday and they could soon be extinct. Tanzania s elephant population decreased
by two thirds and Mozambique s fell by 40%. Elephants have dropped in population from more
than 10 million to only 479,000 today. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

The Embargo In Cuba
In 1960 the United States, under President Eisenhower, established a partial embargo on the tiny
island nation of Cuba (Rampersand, 402). That partial embargo became a complete embargo under
President Kennedy in 1962. The United States established the embargo on Cuba to alter Cuba s
political clime. Looking back through the last 55 years, that goal has not been achieved. It is time
to end the embargo on the island nation of Cuba re establishing economic, scientific and cultural
exchanges.
While Cuba has endured the embargo by the United States, it has not had the access to the rapid
development of medical progress. Therefore, Cuba has had to rely on internal development
programs to ensure the overall health to its people. Not only could Cuba benefit from access to
medical research and trade, the United States could benefit as well. William Keck wrote the
following in the New England Journal of Medicine: ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

It is plain to see that the embargo has impacted citizens on both sides of the line for medical care.
Cubans have lost out on access to American medical research and the United States is clearly
missing access to Cuba s medical research. It begs the question of who the embargo is really
hurting. Both sides would benefit on removing the prohibition on exchange of technology and

Communist Economy
Communism is considered to be a further step beyond Marxism. It is considered to be a society
which is classless. The wealth is redistributed so that the control of the wealth does not lie only in
the hands of the rich people. The privately owned businesses are converted into state property
which then functions for the benefit of all the people of the state rather than an elite group of
people. As the name implies, it is a form of government for the entire community. Communism
upholds the idea that the basic needs of society should be provided to all, irrespective of any class
differences. It also promotes the fact that every worker should be rewarded for all his work and
hold a share in the profits. Communism is broadly defined as a... Show more content on

The other matters that are highly criticized within a communist economy are the facts that these
economies face several issues such as shortage of goods such as products of basic necessities,
other class/creed issues, etc. All these problems and issues lead to an increase in the economic
problems of the communist country. The economic problems of the country can be increased
because of the short comings related to communism. In communism the governments try to
create a classless society regardless of the special talents that people are provided with. It is
because of this reason that a communist government faces problems when appointing officers to
specific positions. Moreover if these positions are not held by people who have the right talent
then the government can fail and this can create problems for the whole country. Moreover, the
wages that workers have to be paid depend on the government itself and this creates a problem
again. The people are only paid at a subsistence level and hence they can only fulfill their basic
needs such as food and shelter. When the question of personal interest comes, the governments
cannot fulfill these interests of people. It is because of this very reason

sound of hoof slamming into the ground as a horse gallops across a field. I believe in the noise of a

you can see their body working as hard as possible to get as much speed as it can possibly make. I
believe in the gentleness of a horse. After seeing all of that power and strength that a horse can

ABSTRACT
Deflections of a beam are important to be able predict the amount of deflection for a given loading
situation. This experiment addresses determining the yield point for a material to fail, so the stress
in the material does not have to reach to that point. This is where understanding beam deflection
becomes a useful tool. This experiment is using beam deflection theory to evaluate and compare
observed deflection per load values to theoretical values. Beam deflection experiment done by four

Analysis Of William Du Bois s The Soul Of The Black Folk...
Historiography has changed immensely since the beginning of the historian profession. Times of
conflict can result in the approaches of historiography changing in a short period. By the end of
the nineteenth century, he writing of American history had changed from consensus to
progressivism. This opened up a new form of writing and opportunities to include different
approaches or fields, such as science, economics, political science, and sociology, to help the
understanding of the topic. In 1903, William Du Bois, influenced by Pragmatism, wrote about
the Civil War and how it was a result of economic and social factors of African Americans in his
book The Soul of the Black Folk. Then, Charles and Mary Beard wrote The Rise of American
Civilization in 1927, reconsidering and adding economic factors and the inclusion of women s roles
into the history of the American Revolution. Then, after the Second World War, the critical
approach was seen as insulting, and historians started to take a consensus approach again. One of
the most influential consensus historians of this time was Daniel Boorstin, who wrote The Genius
of American Politics . This book helped explain the American Revolution as a means of theory
failure by showing how liberal also known as progressive historians exaggerate on certain events or
people that impacted the American Revolution, such as the Declaration of Independence and
Thomas Jefferson. He sees the American Revolution results were a positive advance

What Is The Seven Commandments In Animal Farm
Within the story Animal Farm by George Orwell is a farm that gets overrun by the animals when
they rebel against their owner, Mr. Jones. After this rebellion, the animals decide to work for none
other but themselves and create a society based off of seven commandments that will prevent the
animals from becoming like the humans beings. Even though the animalsbegin to work for
themselves, the pigs and dogs within the Animal Farm become first class and gain more privileges
than the rest of the animals, which become the working class for farm. With the continuation of the
plot, we begin realize that the society, with every animal being equal, that was supposed to be

With every commandment broken, the written rules on the tarred wall were changed in order for
Napoleon and other pigs to get away with breaking the original commandments. With most of the
animals being illiterate and barely knowing the alphabet, it was even easier for Napoleon and the
other pigs to break them without confrontation from the rest of the animals on the farm. Eventually,
the commandments became: Two legs good, four legs better, no animal shall sleep in a bed with
sheets, no animal shall drink alcohol to excess, no animal shall kill any other animal without cause.
Eventually in order to allow the pigs to have more power and privilege over the other animals, all
the commandments were replaced with just one phrase: animals are equal, but some animals are
more equal than others. The changing of the rules represents how Napoleon has changed
throughout the story. At the beginning he was equal with everyone including Snowball, but
because of his natural leadership, he s taken the role of being a superior to all the other animals and
doing things that go against the original commandments of the Animal

The General Theory Of Crime Essay
Main Body As the nineties began, the general theory of crime became the most prominent
criminological theory ever proposed; furthermore, it is empirically recognized as the primary
determinant in deviant and criminal behaviors. Known also as the self control theory, the general
theory of crime can most simply be defined as the absence or lack of self control that an individual
possesses, which in turn may lead them to commit unusual and or unlawful deeds. Authored by
educator Michael R. Gottfredson and sociologist Travis Hirschi, A General Theory of Crime(1990)
essentially dumbed down every theory of crime into two words, self control. The widely
accepted book holds that low self control is the main reason that a person initiates all crimes,
ranging from murder and rape to burglary and embezzlement. Gottfredson and Hirschi also
highlighted, in A General Theory of Crime (1990), that low self control correlates with personal
impulsivity. This impulsive attitude leads individuals to become insensitive to deviant behaviors
such as smoking, drinking, illicit sex, and gambling (p. 90). The extreme simplicity, yet accuracy,
of Gottfredson s and Hirschi s general theory of crime (self control theory), make it the most
empirically supported theory of criminal conduct, as well as deviant acts. First off, there have been
ample amounts of disapproval in relation to the general theory of crime, because many scholars feel
that Gottfredson and Hirschi (1990) failed to include the

Attachment Survey
The formation of attachment begins at birth with the child forming some type or form of
attachment with their parents or primary caregiver. Hopefully, the child is able to form a proper or
secure attachment with their parent or primary caregivers because the attachment formed between
the parents or primary caregiver acts the foundation for how well the child will be able to form
attachments with others outside the immediate family (Gullone, Ollendick, King,2006).This is
because the type or level of attachment the child was able to form with his or her parent generally
predicts the type or level of attachment the child will form with others outside their intermediate

One method I have for interacting or socializing with individuals outside my group of family and
friends is to look for individuals who appear to be similar to myself in traits, characteristics, and
personality. For example, when I first started working at Wal Mart I tended to avoid the other
workers who were loud and outgoing. Instead, the first friend I made at Wal Mart was a female
who seemed to be shy, quiet and like to hang back from the other employees. After interacting
with the female more, I was pleased to discover that we did in fact, have a lot of the same
characteristics, traits, and a similar personality. According to Mercer and DeRosier (2010)
selecting friends based on similarities is fairly common and generally relationships based on the
two members similarities are more rewarding. I believe relationships between two people
brought together by similarities are more rewarding because the two individuals in the
relationship realize the other person will be more understanding and less likely to judge them
harshly. For example, I did not experience a healthy or even normal childhood, with that being
said, some of my best friends are those who have also experienced some type or aspect of trauma
in their life. With these friends, I am usually more open and more willing to share the real Katie

Hydrochloric Acid Test Lab Report
The effectiveness of commercial antacids to neutralize acid
Introduction The human stomach contains gastric juices with a pH between 1.5 and 3.5 when
these highly acidic juices rise into the less acidic lower esophagus pain and discomfort can occur
(Exploring Biology in the Laboratory). There are many commercial antacids on the market that
claim to relieve the pain more effectively than their competitors. All these antacids, however, should
work in a similar manner to neutralize the excess hydrogen ions from the stomach that are causing
the discomfort (Exploring Biology in the Laboratory). Tums and Alka Seltzer are two popular
antacids on the market, each containing different active ingredients. Tums contains 500 mg of
Calcium Carbonate while Alka Seltzer lists three active ingredients on their bottle, 325 mg of
Aspirin, 100 mg Citric acid, and 1916 mg of Sodium Bicarbonate. It could be hypothesized that
Alka Seltzer will neutralize the most acid because it contains three active ingredients instead of just
one. Hydrochloric acid occurs ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Comparing Dr. Kinbote And John Shade By Vladimir Nabokov
Dr. Kinbote and John Shade
Vladimir Nabokov is an artist that accentuates the aesthetic pleasure which patterning affords. The
fabric of Pale Fire is woven with a dense texture of mirrors, doubles, parodies, games, riddles,
masks, and disguises. In the story, such games of perception (particularly the notion of reflection
and misconception) creates a disparity between reality and fantasy. One of the most well known and
multifaceted line in the poem comes from the first stanza, fifteenth stanza, and supposedly the last:
I was the shadow of the waxwing slain. The absence of the 1000th line and this disruption of the
poem s symmetry suggests the transition from a mere perception to reality, that John Shade was no

Essay on Pentadic Analysis of the Statue of Liberty
Pentadic Analysis of the Statue of Liberty The Statue of Liberty is one of the most well know
symbols of the United States, across the world. For this reason I chose to analyze the dramatic
effect it creates, and what methods it implores to invent this universal meaning. It is one of the
strongest visual representations of the ideals which our country is founded upon. I intend to defend
the argument that the Statue of Liberty posses the power of persuading human thought using the
terms encompassed in Kenneth Burke s Pentad, shaping the definition of America for people
through out the world. The Statue of Liberty was originally a gift to the United Statesfrom France,

third category of Burke s Pentad is the agent ; Who is the source of the message? How the agent

Burke s analysis is to the define the purpose of the action. After applying the Pentad to the dramatic

Act: The act performed by the statue is the representation of the American Dream
Scene: The scene of the action is the historical struggle our the United States endued to achieve

Agent: The agent of the act is the government of the United States

the aging process. Discuss this statement in relation to your particular field of study or interest (e.g.

Population ageing is both a triumph and a challenge (Lim, 2008). With the advances in economics
and medical development as well as better health systems, Singaporeans now are having longer life
expectancy than they used to have in the past. Current research has shown that Singapore is one of

The health care system within the country has been upgraded to cater to the seniors. This is to
provide a complete and affordable health care system for the elderly. These care systems or
places can be easily accessed, afforded and directed to many different needs faced by the elderly.
For example, building more hospitals so that they can be easily accessible and topping up of the
Medisave accounts, when there is a surplus, for the less well off Singaporeans as the priority
(Sadasivan and Osman, 2006).
Research has shown that most seniors will want to live independently. By enabling ageing in place
(Lee, 2009), the government improves the infrastructures, such as the Housing Development Board
(HDB) buildings, and public transport system. These improvements will enable them to move
around freely and easily and they will find it easier to gain ace to public amenities with the elderly
friendly transport system.
From the researches done, it can be seen that the problem of ageing is a norm for economic
developed countries. The shift in age structure will have an effect on the country s economy.
However, this problem can be solved by having policies that benefit both the elderly as well as the
country. We are crafting new policies, improving our infrastructure and developing effective
programs to enable older citizens to lead full and happy lives (Lee, 2009). The government ensures

3d Printing And Its Effects On The World Of Tissue...
3D Printing On the forefront of tissue scaffold fabrication is 3D printing. 3D printers have a
multitude of advantages over traditional scaffold fabrication methods. High print precision
allows fibers to be deposited into 3D structures with finely tunable dimensions, 3D printers also
have the ability to incorporate multiple materials into the same structure through multiple
extrusion heads. Jakus et al. used a 3D extrusion based printer to create a graphene and
polylactide co glycolide scaffold and showed it could create a 3D graphene structure (3DG) with
features as small as 100 um and as large as 10cm offering a large range of applications. They also
showed that 3DG supports human mesenchymal stem cell (hMSC) adhesion, viability, proliferation,
and neurogenic differentiation with significant upregulation of glial and neuronal genes [9]. The
ease in fabrication and the ability to precisely modify structure with 3D printers allows for
opportunities in a wide range of tissue engineering applications. Incorporating growth factors and
other bioactive molecules into a CP It is often desirable to modify the material properties of a
polymer to better optimize it for different applications. Critical properties that affect the possible
applications of the polymer include conductivity, porosity, hydrophobicity, degradability. There are
four main processes to incorporate chemical and biological molecules into a polymer. The simplest
method is adsorption, following the

Group Communication In Health And Social Care Essay
1.In a healthcare setting there are two main ways of communicating effectively. There is one to one
communication this is when there are just two people talking to each other the other is group
communication, this is when there are multiple people talking to each other and it is often more
than three people.
2.In a health care setting group communication can happen when there is a staff meet or when
nurses are on their break. These are just two situation in which group commination may occur.

Group communication can be ineffective when there are people that decide to be disruptive and
refuse to do as they are told an example of this is in a class room. Another is when someone is not
good at taking control of the conversation and they don t share their ideas in a way that can be
understood.
6.Care professionals need to be able to communicate effectively because if it not effective errors
like not giving someone the right medicine could cost them their live and this will affect everyone
involved.
1.Professionals communicate in a formal way so that information is received and is understood
also using formal language in a health and care setting means everything is understood because
when speaking informally and using slang word may be misinterpreted and a message may not be
received as intended.
2.The difference between formal and informal communication is that formal is very official and
uses correct grammar and punctuation and informal is more relaxed and loose. This is normally
used when speaking with friends or family.
3.Care professionals may choose to communicate informally to other colleagues or possibly to
someone who doesn t speak a language well because it would be easier to break the language

Our Town Quotes
Do any human beings ever realize life while they live it? every, every minute? (Emily Webb, Act
III) Our Town presents life as it truly is; as humans, we tend to only remember the big events in
our life, and neglect the minute details. Throughout the book, Wilder entertains the notion that
humans have learned to seemingly distance themselves from anything that doesn t have
immediate value to their memories. Our Town proves this notion by examining key aspects of
the average person s life in Grover s Corners childhood and marriage. To quote the Stage
Manager as they exclaim in Act I, This is the way we were: in our growing up and in our
marrying and in our living and in our dying . .As children, things always seemed to go over our

The definition of Earnings per share is the portion of a company s profit allocated to each

Calculated as:
When calculating, it is more accurate to use a weighted average number of shares outstanding over
the reporting term, because the number of shares outstanding can change over time. However, data
sources sometimes simplify the calculation by using the number of shares outstanding at the end of

In their new study, Is diluted EPS Becoming More Art than Fact, Caster and Elson, along with
Leonard G Weld, investigate whether corporate managers stockrepurchase decisions are affected
by their incentives to manage diluted earnings per share. Managers have substantial discretion to
time their firm s stock repurchases, which increase diluted EPS. The authors sought to identify if
and when firms were repurchasing their own shares to manage diluted EPS, and whether
employee stock options played a role in these decisions. The issue is especially pertinent since
repurchases are often portrayed as being good for the company. However, the authors argue that
repurchases for the purpose of managing diluted EPS should have no real effect on firm value.
The authors find that managers increase the level of their firm s stock repurchases to offset the
effects of securities such as employee stock options, which can decrease diluted EPS. Numerous
articles in the financial press have suggested that managers repurchase shares to offset EPS dilution
in response to employee stock option plans, and executives acknowledge that their decisions to
issue and repurchase shares are influenced by potential earnings per share effects. The authors also
find that managers increase their firm s stock repurchases when earnings fall short of the level

The Relationship Between pH and Rate of Enzymatic Activity in a Yeast Peroxidase Solution
By: Lena O Neill and Ashrut Sood, D Block AP Biology, Submitted 10/30/16
This experiment addressed the correlation between pH and oxygen production of a yeast enzyme
reaction. It was hypothesized that enzymatic production would reach a peak at around 6 8 pH,
and then fall again. The original yeast peroxidase solution contained 4 mL of distilled water, 5 mL
of yeast suspension, and 1 mL 3.0% hydrogen peroxide. Acids and bases were added to the
solution in order to achieve the desired pH. While there were complications leading to a shortage
of data, the results pointed to a peak of enzymatic activity between 6 and 8 pH. This suggested that
the hypothesis ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The highest O2 produced per minute occurred at 7.49 pH, while the lowest occurred at 4.19 pH not
including the control (Figure 2). The control solution produced no oxygen.
Discussion
The lack of data points leaves the result of the experiment to be inconclusive because in order to
prove the hypothesis correct, data points at higher pHs are necessary. The lack of data is the
result of technical struggles with the O2 probe, which in later experiments would have to be
fixed. This being said, the data obtained suggests a bell curve within the data, with the vertex of
the bell curve at around 7.5 pH. This bell curve, seen by the logarithmic fit used in the graph,
gives some evidence that the hypothesis could be correct since the peak falls in between 6 and 8 pH.
The results match the behavior of enzymatic activity discussed by past experiments measuring pH
effects on pyruvate kinase and xanthine oxidase (Bailey et al., 1968)( Stirpe della Corte, 1968). In
order to better the experiment in the future, more data collection is necessary, especially above the
pH of 9. An additional question to be considered would be: how could data collection be more
reliable in future experiments?

The Silence Of The Lambs
Exceptionality and Geniuses
The term genius is associated with an array of diverse connotations. When reviewing the
literature, it is vital to note that a specific definition and approach to measure whether or not a
person is a genius, is rather complex. Garber, M. (2002) declares genius as a special inflation and
over time has become a commodity, an ambition, and even a lifestyle. The underlying question is:
how, and what makes an individual a prodigy? One may argue that completing an intelligence
quotient (IQ) test will suffice and determine whether an individual exemplifies genius like
tendencies, as others argue otherwise. There are tendencies and certain behaviours that geniuses
exhibit differing them from other individuals who are more or less considered normal . Therefore,
relationships with geniuses tend to differ as their intelligence and typical demeanor is peculiar. In
the film The Silence of the Lambs directed by Jonathan Demme, one of the main characters,
Hannibal Lecter portrays unusual behaviour. Based on his questionable character, one may argue
that genius like behaviour is conspicuous; this is seen through his relationships, his intellect, and
overall demeanor.
The relationships observed in the movie The Silence of the Lambs depicts thoughtful but suspicious
intent. A female FBI trainee, Clarice Starlingwas put on a case to get to know Hannibal Lecter s
character; his thought process, responses, and interactions were monitored thoroughly. Clarice

The Strong Women of A Tale of Two Cities
A strong woman is a woman determined to do something others are determined not be done
(Piercy). The women in A Tale of Two Cities show this rare type of strength just being who they
are. The author, Charles Dickens, creates them as individuals who break barriers with their
masculine behavior. Each, in effect of their special qualities, are determined in all they do.
Madame Defarge, is a sinister middle aged woman who strikes fear in all from her keen brute. But

addition, Mr. Lorry associates Miss Pross with stocky and unsophisticated qualities when he

Critically acclaimed by the San Francisco Chronicle as absolutely marvelous affirmation of
independent spirit, Dead Poets Society follows a group of teenage boys in a New England

For me, this moment four years is a moment in history was the war. The war was and is a reality

encapsulates the major role World War II plays in A Separate Peace. John Knowles, the author,
utilizes the war as a spectacular backdrop for his novel. In fact, without World War
II, this book
would just be another story lost in the churn of the millions of novels published. A Separate Peace,

Three of the main characters, Gene, Brinker, and Leper would all dramatically change if there
was no war. Probably the most obvious of these characters who were impacted by the World War
II was Leper. The innocent of the class, Leper never knew what he was getting into when he
enlisted to ski in the war. Leper s life is then turned upside down, and he goes completely crazy.
Without the war, Leper s character would need to be developed in some alternative way. Brinker
also completely changes and manipulates his actions as a consequence of this war. Known
formerly as the most responsible, respectable leader on campus at Devon, Brinker morphs into a
character that seems particularly indifferent and downright rebellious. Knowles indirectly
characterizes him through Gene s thoughts, mentioning that Brinker the Lawgiver had turned
rebel for the Duration (122). It is very difficult for one to say that without the war, Brinker would
select the path of rebellion, rather than stay serious and have a possibly brighter future. Finally,
Gene is not only affected by his internal struggles but also the struggle that is going on overseas

Creativity In Clarinet
Creativity. What does that word make you think of? A person, place, object, a feeling? Do you
think of a sunset or fashion designers or artists? Creativity is such a broad concept that it s
different for everyone. If you put one hundred people in a room and told them to write down the

History Paper Burial Practices, Concept of After Life...
The concept of afterlife existed among many ancient civilizations. It was met as a way of
understanding the present or as a way to predict the future depending on their needs. As such, in
order to explain the unknown phenomenon that impacted their daily life, early tribes saw natural
events as simple as the rain and the winds or birth and deathand regarded them to be controlled by
supernatural powers related to the gods, demons, the moon, the sun or other external driving
forces. Ancient people sought protection for survival and power to maintain order with the tribes
by practicing rituals which were aimed to invoke the spirit of the deceased. However, as

However, the suffering in the other world would end eventually. Romans funeral rituals usually
included washing the corpse, laying it flat on a sofa or bed, and dressing it with the finest clothes
that individual had ever possessed. A coin would then be placed under the tongue or on the eyes so
that he could pay the ferryman Charon for rowing him to the land of the dead.
The marble urn I observed at the Met dated from mid 1st 2nd century A.D. was used to place the
ashes of the deceased after the body was cremated. As time went by, they came to understand
that the dissolution of the body was inevitable and the physical body was only a temporary host
of the soul. This piece of artifact provided evidence that in ancient Romans point of view, the
remains of the physical body had to be disintegrated in order for the soul to begin a new life. It is
reasonable to conclude that Romans regarded cremating the body of the dead as a naturally faster
way to begin the life in the other world than slow disintegration of the corpse.
On the other hand, Egyptians believed that the person s physical body was more than a temporary
host and it had to remain intact, a condition necessary to attain the afterlife. Moreover, they
contemplated the idea that a person was the combination of several elements such as, the ba ,
which was the non physical part of the individual and the ka which was a universal force shared by
all.

The Pain Of Others Susan Sontag Summary
With today s easy access to instant information and news updates, photography is everywhere.
Photos capture everything ranging from an innocent birthday party in the backyard to a tragic
dying solider in the rubble. Susan Sontag s subjective essay Regarding the Pain of Others questions
the ethics of looking at and judging controversial photographs, especially the ones of extreme
suffering and anguish during war. Sontag elaborates on the relationship between photographyand
art. She also addresses themes through real life examples, including cigarettes and museums.
Although Sontag never directly states her position on the case, her opinion is developed through
her selection and analysis of each theme. The essay opens up with the broad idea that war is
common as [it] has been the norm and peace the exception (257). But this broad idea does nothing

The Criminalization Of Prostitution And Sex Work
In a cozy, first world country, the realm of crime, abuse, and drug use, seems like it is worlds

entire world, being forced to work in the grit and grime of the streets, and to make a dangerous
living in the underground. The criminalization of prostitutionand sex work is flawed at its very core
men and women shouldn t have to lower their standards of living in order to exercise their rights to

to do all they can to better the lives of sex workers. The organization actively worked with current

Other abolitionists of prostitution seem to think that sex work fuels the demand for commercial

Reflection Of The FilmPaper Man, By John Kahrs
The short film, Paper man , by John Kahrs is a genuine reflection on his world. The way this is
depicted is through his exploration use of magic, the amazing symbolism of the colour used and the
service of sound. The representation of these allows, the audience to be more thankful to this film
and understand its diversity in the world that it once was.
Paper man , is presented in a reflection of the world through the exploration use of magic. This is
best illustrated through the world of 2012 because of how black and white the world was. This
film was created explaining and unfolding the world to a black and white film which gives it a
sense of a romantic genre. As the use of magic is portrayed, the audience get a feeling of hope
and happiness as we too feel the realistic emotions as the main character in this short film. Three
quarters if the way through, when things are looking down and sad, the little spark we call Disney
starts up and help two people rekindle the love at first sight. The use of magic makes the audience
feel as though nothing is as it seems, that things can get better and to always, always, believe in
yourself and never give up. Nonetheless, this film represents the world at the time through the use
of magic!
This films diversity and reflection of the world has dramatically changed based on the range of
colour this film offers. The portrayal of the film is based on the way colour has genuinely
symbolised the significance. The little bit of

trade for farmers and workers in the developing world. By requiring companies to pay sustainable
prices, Fair Trade addresses the injustices of conventional trade, which traditionally discriminates
against the poorest, weakest producers. It enables them to improve their position and have more
control over their lives. Fair Trade also ensures that the products being purchased have been grown
or created under a hygienic and safe environment. Today, more than six million farmers, producers
and growers benefit from the unique Fair Trade system. This scheme provides the farmers and
producers with a fair price for the produce helping them to sustain a suitable living. They also
receive an additional sum, also known as the Fair Trade Premium, which can be used for social,
economic and environmental development in their communities. The developments can include
improvements in medical and educational facilities. Fairtrade also prohibits the use of the child
labour system. (Fairtrade, 2015)
Why was Fair Trade developed?
The Fair Trade system s initial purpose is so that farmers in less developed countries earn a higher
sustainable price. Sticking to the Fair Trade guidelines means that the farmers receive a better price
for their crop and they stand a better chance to make a living. (Uk.answers.yahoo.com, 2015) This
is also mutually

Heathcliff In Emily Bronte s Romeo And Juliet
AP English IV Research Paper
Heathcliff in Wuthering Heights by Emily Bronte and Romeo in Romeo and Juliet by William
Shakespeare share similar all consuming, infatuous relationships that negatively impact their lives.
Both couples are used by the authors to express the destructive nature of obsessive relationships and
how they can determine one s fate. In both stories, love drives the characters into madness and
death.
In Romeo and Juliet, Romeo s obsession with Juliet ultimately leads to his demise when he
believes he will be separated from her. When Romeo learns of his banishment he throws himself
to the ground, his abject posture symbolizing the topsy turvy state of a soul no longer led by
reason (Andrews). Knowing he is to be separated from Juliet he becomes disturbed. Having learned
of Juliet s death he prepares to ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

without her presence. After Catherine s death, Heathcliff becomes a shadow of what a human
being should be (Goodlet), bitter and unforgiving. Having lost his soul reason for existence he
lashes out against a universe that has become meaningless (Knoepflmacher). He abstains from

The Gift Of A Gift
This story is about a man giving a gift that is intended to show gratitude to a stranger s good deed
that moved him years ago. An old woman with her two grandchildren went to the supermarket for
some groceries. The little boy and girl accompanied their grandmother, helping her out with some
groceries. While the little girl was picking a few things at the market, her grandmother told her that
the items she had chosen were not necessarily, although, the grandmother told her granddaughter to
choose something special for her grandfather since it was his birthday, while he was home waiting
for them to come back with the groceries. The little girl picked up a cake from the pastry section
and ran to the counter where her grandmother and brother were waiting, ready to check out. When
the cashier added the cake to the other items it made the grocery purchase higher than the money
they had in hand, so the grandmother pleaded with the cashier to void the cake out of her
transaction. The granddaughter pleaded with the grandmother that she wanted the cake and that she
would not have asked for anything else. The grandmother had no choice by not buying the cake. As
soon as they left the market a gentlemanat the market decided to purchase the cake that the young
girl left at the market. The grandmother and her grandchildren on their way home the gentle man
approached the young girl and the grandmother with the cake that the young girl chose for her
grandfather. The grandmother stated to

High Education And Higher Education
Imagine a world with no college debt, a higher education equally available to all young people,
and no college price barriers. These were the main goals of President Truman in his 1974
commission on Higher Education. Now, let us fast forward forty years and take a look at the
higher education system, which suffered an increase of one hundred and ten percent. Eighty five
percent of college graduates are forced to move back home with their parents due to college debt,
forty two with debt currently live paycheck to paycheck, and seventeen percent delay buying a new
home, and having children due to their student financial loans (Surprising Side Effects of College
Costs ). Higher educationinstitutions increasing their costs have a greater impact on students than
just being in debt; the increase I price also results in a countless number of students considering a
different alternative for their higher education, future careers, and major life decisions.
When thinking about the American Dream in today s society, wealth, and a flourishing career,
seems to have a direct correlation with happiness. But is this American Dream worth an
overwhelming amount of debt? The Project on Student Debt conducted a survey, which showed
that seventy one percent of college students had a student loan debt averaging $29,400 per student.
Because of this alarming dollar amount, students tend to settle for two year community colleges to
obtain a degree. Although this seems like a good idea in

Golden Retrievers
You feel the slobbery licks on you hands, you see the little fluff balls rolling around on the
ground. As you feel the silky softness of the little dogs beside you, and enjoy the feeling of energy
buzz around you, you re thinking about taking on home. Most dogs love to be around humans, they
are so energetic and cute. To get the dogyou want, you might need to know a little more about
them, for example, their sizes, breed, and the type of job they want, or need, to do.
All dogs have different sizes. Dogs can be big, small, tall, or fat. The size of the dog can be useful,
but but still remember that you need to take care of them. If you have a big dog he could be a bit
more rough than a small dog. A tall dog could be useful if you wanted him to be able to scare off
predators if you were camping. A small dog could be useful as a lap dog to anyone if they needed
to calm down. All dogs are useful in some way no matter their size.
Dogs come in many different types of breeds, and each breed usually determines what they do.
For example, a German Shepard is usually trained to do police work, like chasing robbers, or
sniffing out bombs. Golden Retrievers can be trained to be special service dogs, such as calming
people, or being trusted to guide blind people. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

that are protectors or guardians usually bark at anything that is unusual to them. Hunting dogs
help you to find the animals if they are dead or alive. Dogs are parents too. They sometimes have

Nightcrawler Essay
Nightcrawler reveals the side effects of a blood thirsty, self centered society. Dan Gilroy s 2014
Nightcrawler introduces the audience to Lou Bloom, a modern day vampire and reveals the side
effects of the mediated, narcissistic society that he lives in. Bloom shows many characteristics
that expose his vampiric traits as well as his sociopathic ones. He is a product of modern day
society, with a thirst for violence and shocking media, and he is more than willing to provide
images and film to quench society s thirst. In the film Nightcrawler Bloom is a modern day vampire
feeding off crime and the audience s desire for blood.
Just as Fictional vampires feed off of the blood of their victims, Bloom feeds off violence within
society. He thrives off of crime; being able to observe and watch others in pain is a fascinating to
him. For example, in the Horror House segment of the film, Bloom is almost giddy filming the
aftermath of the shooting, observing the dead family members and even ignoring the survivor in
pain, close to death. We can see his ecstasy from his facial expressions while filming and
manipulating the car crash to intensify the aftermath and to get a better shot. He feeds off of these
violent actions within society and thrives in response. He is wired by ... Show more content on

The Benefits Of Technology In The Work Environment
Technology is a tremendous benefit nowadays within the work environment. Each technological
advancement has been created in order to facilitate the work environment and has led us to become
more efficient with the things we do. Because of it, the office environment is no longer the same
as yesterday; it has made the general convenience of our personal lives more accessible in the sense
that we no longer have to invest so much time in the work that we do. Time management and
investment has been optimized, therefore, the efforts put into every day tasks have been reduced.
For example, within the design studio, technological tools such as a smart board improves the way
people meet and share ideas. Essentially, this tool allows users to save and print notes, collaborate
documents, share information and runs video conferencing across distances. Rather than having to
print an important design for a presentation, students and faculty can visually obtain the attention of
any audiences and simply e mail notes to participants and share the work digitally. Some of the
ways in which technologyhas modified and improved the modern workplace are in an increase in
productivity, communication, and cost efficiency. First and foremost, technology allows us to be
more efficient in the things we do and reduce the amount of labor and time we invest to do
something. Take for example, a car or any type of vehicle. These modes of transportation are now
readily available and are technologically

Short Term Significance Of The Education Act 1870
Part A
What in your view was the short term significance of The Education Act 1870?
The 1870 Education Act highlighted inequality in the school system between genders not only in
the class room but in the running of schools. This obviously led to a lot of change for the role and
status of women in the 1870 s and early 20th century, including creating a political identity, proving
women s ability to work well in politics, and creating an educated generation ready for further
radical change.
The short term significance of the 1870 Education Act can be seen in the political impact and the
changes to equality within areas of politics, by introducing School Boards. School boards started or
took over 3000 schools across the UK, which not only took control away from the Church in
deciding what is learnt by children, it also allowed women to have a ... Show more content on

This highlights how the role of School Boards expanded into separate committees which each had
significant individual importance and impact. Coming from Hill in 1896 highlights how women
made immediate change to the education system, highlighting their political ability. The success of
School Bards is further highlighted by the later reports of Millicent Fawcett about individuals like
Elizabeth Garret. Elizabeth Garrett stood for the first School Board election in November 1870
and continued to serve until her death, showing the significance of having educated women as a
part of the education system and the impact they can have when given the opportunity. In her book
Women s Suffrage published in 1911, Millicent Garrett Fawcett described the School Board
elections in 1870. Miss Garrett was at the head of the poll in her constituency Marylebone. She
polled more than 47,000 votes, the largest number, it

The Benefits Of Prostitution
According to Bishakha Datta, 71% of prostitutes said they had entered the sex work willingly. I
believe that prostitution should be legalized for many reasons I will explain below. After looking at
trusting articles, I found that legalizing prostitution would improve medical and health issues, make
prostitutiona safer environment, and create less violence and make it more police friendly. Doctors
have pushed the government to regulate and legalize prostitution. If the government would legalize
prostitution, prostitutes would have to take medical exams (Hayes Smith and Shekarkhar, 45).
Prostitutes will have to undergo many things during a health and medical exam and this will not
only effect the now, but also their future as a prostitute. Under legalization, the state will require
prostitutes to be licensed and subject to routine medical screenings for diseases. Any prostitutes
found to be ill will be unable to return to work until the problem is treated and, if it untreatable, her
license will be revoked (Hayes Smith and Shekarkhar, 50). The main purpose of legalizing
prostitution is to make it safer for the women and clients in this profession. One disease that has
effected many prostitutes is HIV. Research has been done and they found that prostitutes who work
in indoor prostitution, compared to street prostitution were not as likely to be exposed to HIV
(Hayes Smith and Shekarkhar, 49). Indoor prostitution researchers have even found that sexually
transmitted

What Is The Mood Of The Passionate Christopherd To His Love Difference between The Passionate Shepherd to His Love and The Nymph s Reply to the Shepherd The Passionate Shepherd to His Love by Christopher Marlowe and The Nymph s Reply to the Shepherd by Sir Walter Raleigh are pastorals that express the author s feelings and thoughts about nature of love. These two poems differ with each other in their tone, imagery and point of view. In The Passionate Shepherd to His Love, Christopher Marloweshows his idea that love is a passion expressed by material substance and his hope that love is long lasted by the support of such gifts. • 3. U.s. Foreign Tax Credit The income earned by the U.S. individuals and corporations in the foreign countries or foreign source are taxed by the U.S. government, even though other countries also tax any income earned within their borders. To offset this double taxation of income by two different countries, the U.S. grants both individuals and corporations a foreign taxcredit (FTC) that can be used to offset income taxes assessed by a foreign country on the income earned there (Foreign Tax Credit, FTC, n.d.). The FTC is allowable for foreign income taxes and other similar taxes, such as excess profit and war profit taxes. However, only income taxes qualify for the credit. The Value Added Taxes (VAT) and property, sales and severance taxes do not qualify, although they may be deductible. Eligible FTC Income The foreign tax credit can only reduce U.S. taxes on foreign source income; it cannot reduce U.S. taxes on U.S. source income. It is generally better to take a credit for qualified foreign taxes than to deduct them as an itemized deduction because credit reduces the tax liability dollar for dollar. (Foreign Tax Credit Choosing To Take Credit or Deduction, n.d. ). Claiming a deduction may be preferable to claiming the foreign tax credit if the foreign tax rate and the proportion of foreign income to United States income is high. The tax should be computed both ways to determine the larger benefit. Unless the de minimis exception applies, the FTC is calculated on Form 1116. Corporations must file ... • 4. David Herbert Lawrence s Moral And Mental Issues David Herbert Lawrence was born on 11 September 1885 in Eastwood, Nottinghamshire(Becket 6). He lived in a poor family. His literary books generated mass contradictions and some of his books were banned because of offensive content. He was affected by the old traditions of the 19th century and the new ideals of the early 20th century. (Christinat iii). Lawrentian novels were full of poor dissenters and used these kinds of people for taking ideas for his writings. Also, some critics assert that there is no contact between his autobiography and writings. His themes are about the power of immoral energy, political philosophy, romantic nature, spheres of desire and language, sexuality, human existence, self growth, solution of conflict, selfhood, otherness, and blood consciousness. He is a kind of writer who opens the various doors to critical viewpoints.Worthern stated that Lawrence had ethical education in a big assembly of Eastwood and trained himself both in moral and mental issues (1991a: 64 8). He got help from various sermons and temperance systems to improve his morality. Ethics and language both helped him to make his personality very well.He uses in his works the sense of togetherness, Englishness, renewing morality and religious faith. As it was mentioned by Fiona Beckett that such poets as Mallarme who had a big effect in French Symbolism impressed Lawrence very much. • 5. Research Paper On Ivory Ivory Is it worth it? Everyday elephants and rhinos are being poached in order to get their tusks and horns. These tusks and horns are made of ivory which is sold for very large sums. Many things are being done to stop poaching but elephants and rhinos are still being poached. People in Asia mainly China are the main buyers of ivory from illegally poached rhinos and elephants. The ivory business is a multi million dollar business. They buy elephant tusks for $1,500 per pound. Rhino horns are $45,000 per pound, or $6,000 for 100 grams. Many things are trying to be done but there is still illegal ivory trading. There is a near total ban on ivory in the US. The Chinese government has become stricter so people trade in Vietnam and Laos where there is a less strict government. The main buyers of ivory are in Asia but people don t want to change their ways so many people still participate in the business of ivory trading. Elephants and rhinos are disappearing at an alarming rate due to illegal poaching. Many elephants are being killed everyday and they could soon be extinct. Tanzania s elephant population decreased by two thirds and Mozambique s fell by 40%. Elephants have dropped in population from more than 10 million to only 479,000 today. ... • 7. The Embargo In Cuba In 1960 the United States, under President Eisenhower, established a partial embargo on the tiny island nation of Cuba (Rampersand, 402). That partial embargo became a complete embargo under President Kennedy in 1962. The United States established the embargo on Cuba to alter Cuba s political clime. Looking back through the last 55 years, that goal has not been achieved. It is time to end the embargo on the island nation of Cuba re establishing economic, scientific and cultural exchanges. While Cuba has endured the embargo by the United States, it has not had the access to the rapid development of medical progress. Therefore, Cuba has had to rely on internal development programs to ensure the overall health to its people. Not only could Cuba benefit from access to medical research and trade, the United States could benefit as well. William Keck wrote the following in the New England Journal of Medicine: ... As the name implies, it is a form of government for the entire community. Communism upholds the idea that the basic needs of society should be provided to all, irrespective of any class differences. The other matters that are highly criticized within a communist economy are the facts that these economies face several issues such as shortage of goods such as products of basic necessities, other class/creed issues, etc. All these problems and issues lead to an increase in the economic problems of the communist country. The economic problems of the country can be increased because of the short comings related to communism. In communism the governments try to create a classless society regardless of the special talents that people are provided with. It is because of this reason that a communist government faces problems when appointing officers to specific positions. Moreover if these positions are not held by people who have the right talent then the government can fail and this can create problems for the whole country. Moreover, the wages that workers have to be paid depend on the government itself and this creates a problem again. The people are only paid at a subsistence level and hence they can only fulfill their basic needs such as food and shelter. • 11. Analysis Of William Du Bois s The Soul Of The Black Folk... Historiography has changed immensely since the beginning of the historian profession. Times of conflict can result in the approaches of historiography changing in a short period. By the end of the nineteenth century, he writing of American history had changed from consensus to progressivism. This opened up a new form of writing and opportunities to include different approaches or fields, such as science, economics, political science, and sociology, to help the understanding of the topic. In 1903, William Du Bois, influenced by Pragmatism, wrote about the Civil War and how it was a result of economic and social factors of African Americans in his book The Soul of the Black Folk. Then, Charles and Mary Beard wrote The Rise of American Civilization in 1927, reconsidering and adding economic factors and the inclusion of women s roles into the history of the American Revolution. Then, after the Second World War, the critical approach was seen as insulting, and historians started to take a consensus approach again. One of the most influential consensus historians of this time was Daniel Boorstin, who wrote The Genius of American Politics . This book helped explain the American Revolution as a means of theory failure by showing how liberal also known as progressive historians exaggerate on certain events or people that impacted the American Revolution, such as the Declaration of Independence and Thomas Jefferson. Eventually, the commandments became: Two legs good, four legs better, no animal shall sleep in a bed with sheets, no animal shall drink alcohol to excess, no animal shall kill any other animal without cause. Eventually in order to allow the pigs to have more power and privilege over the other animals, all the commandments were replaced with just one phrase: animals are equal, but some animals are more equal than others. • 13. The General Theory Of Crime Essay Main Body As the nineties began, the general theory of crime became the most prominent criminological theory ever proposed; furthermore, it is empirically recognized as the primary determinant in deviant and criminal behaviors. Known also as the self control theory, the general theory of crime can most simply be defined as the absence or lack of self control that an individual possesses, which in turn may lead them to commit unusual and or unlawful deeds. Authored by educator Michael R. Gottfredson and sociologist Travis Hirschi, A General Theory of Crime(1990) essentially dumbed down every theory of crime into two words, self control. The widely accepted book holds that low self control is the main reason that a person initiates all crimes, ranging from murder and rape to burglary and embezzlement. Gottfredson and Hirschi also highlighted, in A General Theory of Crime (1990), that low self control correlates with personal impulsivity. This impulsive attitude leads individuals to become insensitive to deviant behaviors such as smoking, drinking, illicit sex, and gambling (p. 90). The extreme simplicity, yet accuracy, of Gottfredson s and Hirschi s general theory of crime (self control theory), make it the most empirically supported theory of criminal conduct, as well as deviant acts. First off, there have been ample amounts of disapproval in relation to the general theory of crime, because many scholars feel that Gottfredson and Hirschi (1990) failed to include the ... Hopefully, the child is able to form a proper or secure attachment with their parent or primary caregivers because the attachment formed between the parents or primary caregiver acts the foundation for how well the child will be able to form attachments with others outside the immediate family (Gullone, Ollendick, King,2006).This is because the type or level of attachment the child was able to form with his or her parent generally predicts the type or level of attachment the child will form with others outside their intermediate family. One method I have for interacting or socializing with individuals outside my group of family and friends is to look for individuals who appear to be similar to myself in traits, characteristics, and personality. For example, when I first started working at Wal Mart I tended to avoid the other workers who were loud and outgoing. Instead, the first friend I made at Wal Mart was a female who seemed to be shy, quiet and like to hang back from the other employees. After interacting with the female more, I was pleased to discover that we did in fact, have a lot of the same characteristics, traits, and a similar personality. According to Mercer and DeRosier (2010) selecting friends based on similarities is fairly common and generally relationships based on the two members similarities are more rewarding. I believe relationships between two people brought together by similarities are more rewarding because the two individuals in the relationship realize the other person will be more understanding and less likely to judge them harshly. For example, I did not experience a healthy or even normal childhood, with that being said, some of my best friends are those who have also experienced some type or aspect of trauma in their life. With these friends, I am usually more open and more willing to share the real Katie with them. For me to interact or socialize with an individual I ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

There are many commercial antacids on the market that claim to relieve the pain more effectively than their competitors. The fabric of Pale Fire is woven with a dense texture of mirrors, doubles, parodies, games, riddles, masks, and disguises. In the story, such games of perception (particularly the notion of reflection and misconception) creates a disparity between reality and fantasy. One of the most well known and multifaceted line in the poem comes from the first stanza, fifteenth stanza, and supposedly the last: I was the shadow of the waxwing slain. Population ageing is both a triumph and a challenge (Lim, 2008). With the advances in economics and medical development as well as better health systems, Singaporeans now are having longer life expectancy than they used to have in the past. Current research has shown that Singapore is one of the fastest ageing populations among Asia. However, the drop in birth rates over the past years has resulted in a smaller ratio of younger ... This is to provide a complete and affordable health care system for the elderly. These care systems or places can be easily accessed, afforded and directed to many different needs faced by the elderly. For example, building more hospitals so that they can be easily accessible and topping up of the Medisave accounts, when there is a surplus, for the less well off Singaporeans as the priority (Sadasivan and Osman, 2006). Research has shown that most seniors will want to live independently. By enabling ageing in place (Lee, 2009), the government improves the infrastructures, such as the Housing Development Board (HDB) buildings, and public transport system. These improvements will enable them to move around freely and easily and they will find it easier to gain ace to public amenities with the elderly friendly transport system. From the researches done, it can be seen that the problem of ageing is a norm for economic developed countries. The shift in age structure will have an effect on the country s economy. However, this problem can be solved by having policies that benefit both the elderly as well as the country. High print precision allows fibers to be deposited into 3D structures with finely tunable dimensions, 3D printers also have the ability to incorporate multiple materials into the same structure through multiple extrusion heads. Jakus et al. used a 3D extrusion based printer to create a graphene and polylactide co glycolide scaffold and showed it could create a 3D graphene structure (3DG) with features as small as 100 um and as large as 10cm offering a large range of applications. They also showed that 3DG supports human mesenchymal stem cell (hMSC) adhesion, viability, proliferation, and neurogenic differentiation with significant upregulation of glial and neuronal genes [9]. The ease in fabrication and the ability to precisely modify structure with 3D printers allows for opportunities in a wide range of tissue engineering applications. Incorporating growth factors and other bioactive molecules into a CP It is often desirable to modify the material properties of a polymer to better optimize it for different applications. (Emily Webb, Act III) Our Town presents life as it truly is; as humans, we tend to only remember the big events in our life, and neglect the minute details. Our Town proves this notion by examining key aspects of the average person s life in Grover s Corners childhood and marriage. In their new study, Is diluted EPS Becoming More Art than Fact, Caster and Elson, along with Leonard G Weld, investigate whether corporate managers stockrepurchase decisions are affected by their incentives to manage diluted earnings per share. Managers have substantial discretion to time their firm s stock repurchases, which increase diluted EPS. The authors sought to identify if and when firms were repurchasing their own shares to manage diluted EPS, and whether employee stock options played a role in these decisions. The issue is especially pertinent since repurchases are often portrayed as being good for the company. However, the authors argue that repurchases for the purpose of managing diluted EPS should have no real effect on firm value. The authors find that managers increase the level of their firm s stock repurchases to offset the effects of securities such as employee stock options, which can decrease diluted EPS. Numerous articles in the financial press have suggested that managers repurchase shares to offset EPS dilution in response to employee stock option plans, and executives acknowledge that their decisions to issue and repurchase shares are influenced by potential earnings per share effects. Yeast Peroxidase Lab The Relationship Between pH and Rate of Enzymatic Activity in a Yeast Peroxidase Solution By: Lena O Neill and Ashrut Sood, D Block AP Biology, Submitted 10/30/16 This experiment addressed the correlation between pH and oxygen production of a yeast enzyme reaction. It was hypothesized that enzymatic production would reach a peak at around 6 8 pH, and then fall again. The original yeast peroxidase solution contained 4 mL of distilled water, 5 mL of yeast suspension, and 1 mL 3.0% hydrogen peroxide. Acids and bases were added to the solution in order to achieve the desired pH. While there were complications leading to a shortage of data, the results pointed to a peak of enzymatic activity between 6 and 8 pH. This suggested that the hypothesis ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The highest O2 produced per minute occurred at 7.49 pH, while the lowest occurred at 4.19 pH not including the control (Figure 2). The control solution produced no oxygen. Discussion The lack of data points leaves the result of the experiment to be inconclusive because in order to prove the hypothesis correct, data points at higher pHs are necessary. The lack of data is the result of technical struggles with the O2 probe, which in later experiments would have to be fixed. This being said, the data obtained suggests a bell curve within the data, with the vertex of the bell curve at around 7.5 pH. This bell curve, seen by the logarithmic fit used in the graph, gives some evidence that the hypothesis could be correct since the peak falls in between 6 and 8 pH. The results match the behavior of enzymatic activity discussed by past experiments measuring pH effects on pyruvate kinase and xanthine oxidase (Bailey et al., 1968)( Stirpe della Corte, 1968). When reviewing the literature, it is vital to note that a specific definition and approach to measure whether or not a person is a genius, is rather complex. Garber, M. (2002) declares genius as a special inflation and over time has become a commodity, an ambition, and even a lifestyle. The underlying question is: how, and what makes an individual a prodigy? One may argue that completing an intelligence quotient (IQ) test will suffice and determine whether an individual exemplifies genius like tendencies, as others argue otherwise. There are tendencies and certain behaviours that geniuses exhibit differing them from other individuals who are more or less considered normal . Therefore, relationships with geniuses tend to differ as their intelligence and typical demeanor is peculiar. In the film The Silence of the Lambs directed by Jonathan Demme, one of the main characters, Hannibal Lecter portrays unusual behaviour. Based on his questionable character, one may argue that genius like behaviour is conspicuous; this is seen through his relationships, his intellect, and overall demeanor. The marble urn I observed at the Met dated from mid 1st 2nd century A.D. was used to place the ashes of the deceased after the body was cremated. As time went by, they came to understand that the dissolution of the body was inevitable and the physical body was only a temporary host of the soul. This piece of artifact provided evidence that in ancient Romans point of view, the remains of the physical body had to be disintegrated in order for the soul to begin a new life. It is reasonable to conclude that Romans regarded cremating the body of the dead as a naturally faster way to begin the life in the other world than slow disintegration of the corpse. Fair Trade is about better prices, decent working conditions, local sustainability, and fair terms of trade for farmers and workers in the developing world. By requiring companies to pay sustainable prices, Fair Trade addresses the injustices of conventional trade, which traditionally discriminates against the poorest, weakest producers. It enables them to improve their position and have more control over their lives. Fair Trade also ensures that the products being purchased have been grown or created under a hygienic and safe environment. Today, more than six million farmers, producers and growers benefit from the unique Fair Trade system. This scheme provides the farmers and producers with a fair price for the produce helping them to sustain a suitable living. They also receive an additional sum, also known as the Fair Trade Premium, which can be used for social, economic and environmental development in their communities. The developments can include improvements in medical and educational facilities. Fairtrade also prohibits the use of the child labour system. (Fairtrade, 2015) Why was Fair Trade developed? These were the main goals of President Truman in his 1974 commission on Higher Education. Now, let us fast forward forty years and take a look at the higher education system, which suffered an increase of one hundred and ten percent. Eighty five percent of college graduates are forced to move back home with their parents due to college debt, forty two with debt currently live paycheck to paycheck, and seventeen percent delay buying a new home, and having children due to their student financial loans (Surprising Side Effects of College Costs ). Higher educationinstitutions increasing their costs have a greater impact on students than just being in debt; the increase I price also results in a countless number of students considering a different alternative for their higher education, future careers, and major life decisions. But is this American Dream worth an overwhelming amount of debt? The Project on Student Debt conducted a survey, which showed that seventy one percent of college students had a student loan debt averaging $29,400 per student. This obviously led to a lot of change for the role and status of women in the 1870 s and early 20th century, including creating a political identity, proving women s ability to work well in politics, and creating an educated generation ready for further radical change. The short term significance of the 1870 Education Act can be seen in the political impact and the changes to equality within areas of politics, by introducing School Boards. • 52. The Benefits Of Prostitution According to Bishakha Datta, 71% of prostitutes said they had entered the sex work willingly. I believe that prostitution should be legalized for many reasons I will explain below. After looking at trusting articles, I found that legalizing prostitution would improve medical and health issues, make prostitutiona safer environment, and create less violence and make it more police friendly. Doctors have pushed the government to regulate and legalize prostitution. If the government would legalize prostitution, prostitutes would have to take medical exams (Hayes Smith and Shekarkhar, 45). Prostitutes will have to undergo many things during a health and medical exam and this will not only effect the now, but also their future as a prostitute. Under legalization, the state will require prostitutes to be licensed and subject to routine medical screenings for diseases. Any prostitutes found to be ill will be unable to return to work until the problem is treated and, if it untreatable, her license will be revoked (Hayes Smith and Shekarkhar, 50). The main purpose of legalizing prostitution is to make it safer for the women and clients in this profession. One disease that has effected many prostitutes is HIV. Research has been done and they found that prostitutes who work in indoor prostitution, compared to street prostitution were not as likely to be exposed to HIV (Hayes Smith and Shekarkhar, 49).
