For the service learning project, I teamed up with three of my classmates to volunteer at a lady s
conference at Imani Restoration Centre church (IRCC) on the 16th of September, 2017. IRCC is a
non profit organization which is a Kenyan community founded that focuses on bringing African
immigrants together to support and learn the things of God. Samuel Mwangi, the senior pastor of
IRCC, said that through the counseling sessions that he holds at the church every Thursday, he
discovered that most ladies go through the same challenges. Therefore, he thought it would be great
for him to organize a lady s conference, so that ladies could come together to share and support each
other (Personal communication, September, 16, 2017)
The ladies conference was held in the church building, and we were assigned to take care of the
children and assist with feeding the congregation. The meeting was starting at 8:00 am; However,
we arrived 30 minutes earlier to help with the arrangement of the furniture. The ladies began
dropping their kids to the daycare room around 8:15 am. I could not help noticing that most ladies
seemed overwhelmed and tired though there was this particular lady who came with tears dripping

preserve his own ideas and creativity. He did not want to be a part of standardized society. This
fear of losing ones creativity is not unique to Tennyson s time. In fact, this is a current problem
within universities today. Educationhas become extremely standardized and leaves little room for
creativity and does not take into account a person s unique abilities, strength, or interests beyond
the offered majors. Students are prescribed a generic core curriculum and then required to take a
broad range of courses in their field of study. With the modern standardization of education and
prescribed course tracks, creativity is stifled in college, where students are bound by unnecessary
requirements r simply by the inability to study their areas of interest.
The effects of prescribed education are being felt by college students in today s society as the class
tracks laid out for them are too broad in scope.

The Disney Princess In Disney
Disney princesses have always been seen in the public eye as dependent on their prince
charming. When thinking about the very first princesses Disney put on the screen, such as
Snow white, Cinderella, sleeping beauty and so on, they have never been thought of as very
strong or independent women. In most of the early Disney princess movies, the underlying
theme is that the princess is always in search of or waiting to be rescued by the male character.
With, this is one of the most prominent reasons why Orenstein did not want her daughter
listening to the snow white tale. She did not want to expose her daughter to thinking that the
traits or characteristics that the princesses display were how women should act or be
represented. Orenstein had several reservations when it came to her daughter learning about
snow white and the other Disney princess. In the text, it talked about when her daughter was on
the floor laying down waiting for her prince to come and give her the kiss that would save her.
This was one of the reasons Orenstein didn t choose to tell her about show white, she thought
that her daughter did not need to wait on any male figure to come save her and that she could be
her own savor. Snow white, as many of the other princesses, depended on their prince to come
save them. For example, when she ate the apple, she was to wait for the prince to wake her up
