Demian Linder Interview
For this interview paper, I decided to interview Demian Linder, a senior software engineer at Kodak
Alaris. Demian is a friend of a friend who graciously gave me time to interview him in his busy life
and I am glad he did. I learned a lot about software engineering and how college will help me succeed
in the upcoming years. I learned what I should expect in the coming years and I did my best to
document the conversation. Demian Linder went to college at SUNY Brockport to become a
orthopedic surgeon. Towards his senior year, he decided he didn t want to go to school for that long
and used his minor in math to do something new. He ended up going to RIT after his time at
Brockport. After college, he worked at Kodak for fourteen years before getting another job at Odyssey
software in 2008. In 2014, he became a senior software engineer at Kodak Alaris. As a senior software
engineer, he works on many software systems and with many languages. As for technologies
employed, there are many as well. He works with Microsoft Stack, Azure, IIS, C++ or C# (C# being
the language of choice), Oracle SQL, database backends, web services, web api, and wcs services. For
testing, he uses code clearcase dealing with saving and version control for software. He uses oracle 11i
as well as javascript and Microsoft in the cloud. As for configuration management, he uses f.config
files within azure document databases as well as api document. He also uses database clearface and
even google docs. Although

Child Rearing Dbq
Child rearing from the 16th to the 18th century changed because the child death rate went up during
this time period. This caused parents to distance themselves from their children until they grew into
adulthood because they just did not know if they were going to survive. Adults did not want to invest
that much time and get to emotionally attached to something that was going to die. These distancing
views caused adults attitudes towards children to change, they began to have such views as severely
disciplining children, wet nursing, and that kids were taught evil or taught to be bad. During this time
adults began to severely discipline their children, they did this in several different ways, by degrading
[their children] and by strik[ing] ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
People before this time period thought that children were born evil, and that they automatically were
just as evil as they were going to be when they were older when they were born. However, a change
came about during this time, and people began to believe that children Kn[e]w no evil (Document 6)
at birth, that they were only taught to be evil by the people or events around them. That since children
have yet to experience bad things happening in their life, they know nothing of anything bad. Also
another idea came up during this time that was basically if one teaches their children how to love, and
how to love their parents, and if the parents show the children that they are worthy of that love, they
will respect and obey their parents better. Sir George Savile in 1628 wrote you must begin early to
make your children love you so that they will obey you, (Document 7) showing that if parents would
show their children love, they would earn their obedience. Proving that if a parent loves their child,
they earn their respect, and the theory that children are not born

Lamborghini And Defendant s Impressions
C. Lamborghini and Defendant s marks are similar because the two marks give off the same overall
impression when examining them in their market and also because neither mark has any distinctive
features to set them apart. The more similar the marks are, the more likely it is that relevant consumers
will confuse their sources. Kibler v. Hall, 843 F.3d 1068, 1077 (6th Cir. 2016). When comparing two
marks, the courts view the marks in their entirety and focus on the marks overall impressions, opposed
to dissecting the marks and focusing on their individual features. AutoZone, Inc. v. Tandy Corp., 373

Similarities Between The Birthmark And Rappaccini s Daughter
Nathaniel Hawthorne s The Birthmark and Rappaccini s Daughter are both fictional short stories
written in the 1800s. Although these are two different scenarios, both tend to share several similarities.
They deal with relationships between a man and woman, experiments, and ironically ends with a twist
that readers don t expect. In The Birthmark we first learn about the main character named Aylmer. He
is fascinated with science. He has devoted himself, however, too unreservedly to scientific studies
ever to be weaned from them by any second passion (Hawthorne 952) He eventually finds love with
his wife Georgianna, but there is something about her he just will not seem to take much longer.
Georgianna has a red birthmark on her cheek which is the shape of a small hand. While she thinks it is
beautiful, the most important person in her life doesn t feel the same way. In fact, Aylmer is truly
disgusted and in shock by her mark, claiming it is a visible mark of earthly imperfection (Hawthorne
953). Finally telling his wife how he feels, Georgianna is in disbelief. She is upset, hurt, and confused,
even questioning their marriage as she tells him You cannot love what shocks you! (Hawthorne 953).
The last thing she would have thought is that the person she planned to spend the rest of her life with
doesn t see her beauty mark the way she does. Aylmer begins to dream about removing this mark from
Georgianna s face. As he explains the dream to Georgianna, he explains

They are slowly coming to terms with their new identity as an adolescent and the world outside the
family and school. For the first time, they no longer see themselves as sons or daughters, brothers or
sisters, or students, but as individuals who seek to understand their place in society and search for
opportunities to contribute to society.
The first phase can be sub divided the spiritual (Montessori 1966 and 2007a) and Social Embryonic
(Montessori, 1966 and 2007a). The Spiritual Embryonic is the phase of intellectual development or a
period of mental construction of the child that starts developing right after birth and continues
developing to three. The Social Embryonic stages slowly replaces subconscious learning with the will
to learn. The Child will demonstrate greater awareness of others needs and becomes sensitive to the
social aspects of their culture.
Montessori talks about Sensitive Periods, which she splits into six. In order to understand these
Periods and how children move between these phases, it s important to understand how children take
in stimuli from the environment and use it to grow. Most theorists agree that there are periods in
children s lives in which they become biologically mature enough to gain certain skills that they could
not have easily picked up prior to that maturation. For example, research has shown that babies and
toddlers brains are more flexible with regard to learning to

John Knowles s A Separate Peace
In the first few chapters of A Separate Peace alone, Gene Forrester is John Knowles. In the first
chapter, Gene is a grown man fifteen years in the future. He describes Devon School in the summer
session in 1942. Devon School is rarely mentioned in the book. In A Separate Peace: The War Within
the chronology states that in 1943, a year older than the book, he too went to a summer session at
Exeter Academy (Bryant, xi). Knowles, too had a tree that he and other boys jumped off of, but he
broke his foot and had to be on crutches (Bryant, xi). This book is a rough autobiography of his life.
Gene and the author John Knowles will be explained as WWII in their eyes, the symbolism of
Phineas, and the school and the older Gene. In A Separate Peace, the summer session is for seniors
who are training for the war. Gene and Phineas are sixteen and not eligible for the draft. As the book
states, they jump off the tree used for diving in the river. Gene says in the book The tree was
tremendous, an irate, steely black steeple beside the river. I d be damned if I climbed it (Knowles, 14).
Similar to the book, Knowles probably thought the same thing after he broke his foot.
In The War Within, Bryant states that A Separate Peace can be read as a war book. With this in mind,
it was only about two boys who were not of drafting age, but one to two years before it. In the summer
session, the teachers are a little less strict, but only to the boys under eighteen. Even then, the boys

Test The Water Usage Of The Smart Agricultural System
To test the water usage of the smart agricultural system, data was collected for the three different types
of algorithms implemented for this project: timed based, reactive, and proactive control of the
environment. The timed based algorithm turns the water pump on based only on the time of the day.
The reactive algorithm turns the water pump on only if the soil moisture falls below a certain
threshold. The first two algorithms only consider one type of data for their algorithms, either time or
soil moisture. Comparatively, the proactive algorithm actively monitors the environmental conditions
to determine the best time to turn the water pump on. The proactive algorithm monitors the soil
moisture, temperature, humidity, pressure, time ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This can be compared to high temperatures of 22 degrees Celsius and low temperatures of 18 degrees
Celsius in the indoor environment. The reduced temperature variation helps to protect the plants from
the extreme weather conditions that the proactive, smart algorithm is able to compensate for.
However, since extreme environments would be difficult to reproduce accurately, this factor was not
considered for this test. Additionally, because the temperature variation would be applied equally to
each of the environments, it was deemed a non significant factor for the purposes of this test.
Rain however, was deemed a significant factor for this test. This test is centered on the water usage of
the system and as a result, it is important to see the effect of rain on the system. To accurately simulate
rain, 20mL of water was dispensed to each of the environments on the 3rd day of the test. The water
was dispensed using a measuring cup containing the set amount of water. The weather data was also
spoofed to change the weather status to rain. This was accomplished by replacing the weather JSON
file that would have been requested from openweather.org, with a fake weather JSON file with the
spoofed values. Finally, it should be noted that the sensor module pushes new data to the Webserver at
a rate of one packet every minute. Since the Webserver only updates the turn water on command when
new data is

Why Is Henrietta Lacks Unethical
The Immortal Life of Henrietta Lacks is a novel written by Rabecca Skloot that outlines the life and
story of a woman named Henrietta Lacks and her families struggle to discover the truth. Henrietta
Lacks was and African American women who was diagnosed with cervical cancer at the age of thirty.
A doctor at John Hopkins Hospital examined Henrietta and a biopsy of the cancerous tissue was
retrieved. Henrietta received treatment for her cancer, but the cancer was too aggressive and she soon
passed away at age of thirty one, but her cells continue to live today. Henrietta Lack s cells were
unlike any other humans cells ever examined. The cells were able to grow, multiply, and divide
outside of the human body in a lab (Skloot 2010). This was a major scientific discovery. Henrietta s
cells, more commonly known to the public as HeLa, aided in the creation of several scientific
discoveries and are still used today. It is because of HeLa we have the polio vaccine, a better
understanding of cancer, and cells in general. The cells have even been sent into space and have been
exposed to nuclear testing and to toxins (BigPicture). Although Henrietta Lacks s cells have done a lot
good, many ethical issues surround her case such as privacy issues, monetary compensation,
exploitation, and cell contamination to name a few. Perhaps the most important and controversial
ethical issue in Hennrietta s case resides around consent, or the lack there of. When Henrietta was at
John Hopkins receiving her cancer treatment a doctor by the name of TeLinde took a sample of
Henrietta s cervix without her knowledge or consent. But first though no one had told Henrietta that
Telinde was collecting sample or asked she wanted to be a donor Wharton picked up a sharp knife and
shaved two dime sized pieces of tissue from Henritta s cervix: one from her tumor, and one from the
healthy cervical tissue nearby. Then he placed the sample in a glass dish (Skloot, 2010, 33). At the
time of the treatment Henrietta was unconscious and completely unable to accept or reject the biopsy
(Skloot, 2010, 33). Acquiring proper consent from an individual is an ongoing process and needs to be
asked for at every stage of a study with human subjects. The basic

Buying Coffee From A Coffee Shop
When I think about all the purchases I make on a somewhat regular basis, the major item that stands
out the most to me is coffee. I can confidently say that a coffee from a coffee shop is an item that I
absolutely by on a daily basis. Some other items I purchase somewhat regularly, but on a less frequent
basis than a daily coffee, would be weekly or biweekly groceries. A little less frequently I will make
beauty purchases. I would say on a monthly basis I will buy hair products and make up. Although
there are many other purchase that I make within a given year, I would say that these items are the
consistent ones that I continue purchase regularly. When it comes to buying coffee, I don t give it a
whole lot of thought. I am not picky when it comes to my coffee, any kind will do. The sole purpose
of purchasing it is to give me a boost of caffeine in the morning to start my day. I never really thought
too much about how buying a coffee would have any affects on the environment, but being forced to
think about it really opens up my eyes. Coffee that people grab on the go will either come in plastic or
styrofoam. I will admit that I am guilty of not always properly disposing of these cups in the proper
recycling bins, and I have seen first hand that I am not alone. I never really thought about how the
amount of coffee that I buy in a given year, and all of the un recycled plastic and styrofoam could be
causing environmental harm. It s not just the chemicals that these products

Napoleon Bonaparte Strengths
During the late 1700 s to mid 1800 s, the French Revolution became the spotlight of European
politics. After multiple political leaders, including the King himself, had been disposed of the French
people had grouped themselves into various political parties. France was in turmoil. Without a solid
leader to demand control of the country, the people led many revolts leading to a national depression.
Growing up during this time of instability, the popular general Napoleon Buonaparte, knew what his
country needed to come back to power. During the next couple of decades, Napoleon spent his life
building his empire by taking control militarily, politically, and religiously. In return he became the
most powerful leader of his time.

The relationship between the Catholic Church and the state deeply concerned the Emperor. He
understood that only the Catholic religion stirred the emotions of the people, could effectively mend
the religious divisions of the revolution, provide a basis for morality, and support the authority of the
new Consular regime. In 1801, Napoleon signed the Concordat with Pope Pius VII. It recognized
Catholicism as the main religion of France, but at the same time gave religious freedom to those who
were not Catholic. In many articles in the Concordat, you see where the State has preference over the
Church. In Article Six, it calls for bishops to take an oath to the First Consul, and in Article Eight, a
prayer to the Republic will be repeated at the end of divine office. Napoleon is able to have control
over the Catholic Church without committing himself or any of his subjects to any certain religion. On
December 2, 1804, Napoleon used the Concordat to his advantage when consecrating himself the new
emperor. Napoleon I s coronation did not include the traditional sacramental rites of other imperial or
royal coronations, which meaningfully indicated a decrease in the papal role in consecrating the new
emperor. This symbolic act meant that Napoleon did not owe his crown to anyone, and that the Pope
was not a higher power than he. In the end, Napoleon created a France free of prejudice, so that the
French people could worship who they wanted

Adrenal Glands In Your Body
There are two Adrenal Glands in your body. Each of them is located on top of a kidney. They re name
comes from exactly where they are located. The word ad means near or at and the word renes means
kidneys. So when you put both words together it means near or at kidneys. Both Adrenal Glands are
triangular shaped organs, and when measured is about one and a half inches in height and three inches
in length. These small glands not only produce adrenaline, but several other hormones as well which
are important for different functions of our body. Other than adrenaline and noradrenalin, the main
class of hormones produced by these organs is corticosteroid hormones.
The Adrenal Gland is made up of two parts: the Adrenal Cortex and the Adrenal Medulla. The Adrenal
Cortex is the outer layer of the Adrenal Glands. The Adrenal Cortex only produces hormones that are
vital and important to have in your life. The Adrenal Cortex is the site of all of our steroid production,
including steroids which calm down the immune system in allergic responses (they are anti
inflammatories) and the hormone testosterone. The Adrenal cortex produces two main groups of
corticosteroid hormones Glucocorticoids and Mineralocorticoids. Natural glucocorticoids are just

Folklore In Fairy Tales
Folklore by definition is: traditional customs, tales, sayings, dances or art forms preserved among a
people. 2) an often unsupported notion, story or saying that is widely circulated (Merriam Webster
Dictionary www.merriamwebster.com/dictionary/folklore). We use folklore in our daily lives without
much thought. Every time we tell a joke, pass long an urban legend, repeat a saying or proverb you ve
heard, as well as every time you read a fairy tale to a child you are using verbal folklore.
Oral traditions and oral lore is passed down through generations, in poetry, tales, jokes, legends,
proverbs and songs. In addition, verbal folklore has repetitive patterns that quickly identify the type of
lore you are about to hear. For example: a man walks into a bar you immediately know you are about
to hear a joke, additionally Once upon a time identifies a fairy tale. Old MacDonald Had a Farm a

Over the course of the 20th century, the automobile has gone from being an expensive toy of the rich,

Not unlike the effects of the introduction of Railways into society, automobiles have changed social

automobile itself is a rather controversial issue. Supporters of the automobile claim that it is a marvel

The appearance of herring in Bohuslen in the latter half of the eighteenth century had a major impact
on the economics of fisheries in Sweden and Northern Europe. Meanwhile, the promotion of whale
fisheries is as important as that of herring fisheries because of the whale oil which is valuable product.
According to the previous research on Swedish fisheries policy, it is clear that the major changes in
measures and policies relation to herring fisheries have had a significant impact. However, research
has yet to elucidate fully the development and transformation that has changed the face of whale

Guernica s History Essay
Guernica s History
The word art is an encompassing one, vastly interpreted and with multiple definitions. In the case of
Picasso s painting Guernica, art informs, educates and expresses. Its power lies in its ability to capture
and compel an audience nearly six decades after the modern world s other day of infamy. To
understand fully the painting that evolved out of the Spanish painter s outrage, one must know its
context. Why do you think I date everything I do? Because it is not sufficient to know an artist s works
it is also necessary to know when he did them, why, under what circumstances (Picasso). An
appreciator who knows the saga of Spain s historical fishing village is given a depth of experience that

The apparent goal of the assault was hitting a bridge near an important road junction that possibly
could be used in the future by Republican forces. Given that the intent was only to hit the bridge, Von
Richthofen would have used his Stuka dive bombers, capable of carrying a single bomb weighing
1,000 pounds. Equipped with the latest bomb sights, a Stuka had a high chance of taking out the
bridge with one direct hit. Even a near miss would have made a powerful shock wave that, if it did not
cause the bridge the bridge to collapse, would doubtless have made it unsafe for traffic (Gordon,
Morgan 1975).
The Condor Legion had had many successful missions to prove their accuracy. For example, they
succeeded in dropping provisions squarely into the courtyard of the besieged Nationalist city of
Alcazar. For the Guernica mission the Condor Legion was equipped with airplanes consisting of three
German types, Junkers and Heinkel bombers and Heinkel fighters which were loaded with 3,ooo
pounds of bombs weighing up to 550 pounds each along with more than 3,ooo two pounder aluminum
incendiary projectiles (Fisch 1983).
From 4:30 to 7:45 in the evening the squadron poured an uncontested, continuous rain of bombs and
gun fire on Guernica. Normal procedure would have been to observe the fall of

Case Study1: And the Fraud Continues
A business can not work out without an account system, which includes internal. Internal controls are
used by companies to make sure financial information is accurate and valid. Strong internal controls
are signs of a financially healthy company and protect the company s integrity. Strong internal
controls can also increase a company s profitability. There are several types of internal controls that
companies used to protect themselves such as: Segregation of duties, asset purchases, supervisor

Effects of Gangsta Rap Essay example
Obviously rap music is too violent. It serves as a musical accompaniment to the entire underclass
culture of violence, says the author of See No Evil , David Klinghoffer, in an article in the National
Review. This extremely narrow minded philosophy has neglected to discover what rap music really is
and what it means to its millions of buyers, who are mostly of upper class status. Rap is not only
music, it is also a black cultural expression that prioritizes black voices from urban America, and it is
a form of rhymed storytelling accompanied by highly rhythmic, electronically based music. Rap music
is a form of art or expression like any other type of music. Rap music in itself is not violent. Rap
music of today is merely a reflection of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Take the late Tupac Shakur for example. The deaths of Tupac Shakur and the events surrounding his
death had and still have many people believing that rap music and the industry in general played a
part. Everyone that was against rap music used his death as an excuse to blame rap for violence. They
were saying that his violent lyrics are part of the reason that he was murdered. C. Delores Tucker, a
very famous anti rap music advocator, was quoted as saying Mr.Shakur always talks about violence
and now it has come back to him. What type of thing is that to say about someone who has died?
Shakur did talk about violence in a lot of his music but he also has just as many positive lyrics. He has
made songs about teen pregnancy, suicide, and one of his all time bests was a song called Keep Ya
Head Up. This is a song dedicated to black women. He tells the black woman that he loves her and
begs other men to honor and respect her as a mother, sister,etc... The point of this brief on Tupac is
that yes he talked about violence but rap music is not to blame for his death. Shakur grew up in a
terrible environment which caused him to have a negative outlook on life. Tupac like many other
rappers was educated and wanted to be positive all of the time. He said, Yes, that s what I want to do. I
want to move people. I want to heal them, but I m still just tryin to silence the

got to the fields of cotton I saw panchito, Roberto and his dad they both had there cotton sack in one
hand and a water bottle and the other as soon I got closer to them i said good morning and so they did.
After a while of getting ready to start picking the cotton the contratista came and started to yell for

idiot so i told him in a loud tone that I would not do it. He told that I would regret this. The next day
non of the workers showed up to work we did this because since the contratista does not want to show
us respect then we wont get his work done. I new this was a good but bad idea at the same time
because how are we going to get money. A couple days went by and the cantratista was begging
people to come back to work. Everyone agreed that it was time to go back to work . When we got to
work the contratista told us to get in a circle so he could say some words.
Contratista point of view I know i have been really unfair with some of you so i have decided that it is
time to have respect towards you my workers and also pay you guys more.

Symptoms And Symptoms Of Children With Developmental Jaw...
Severe dentofacial/crainiofacial deformities affecting children can have an adverse effect on their
function (eg, mastication, swallowing, breathing, or speech). Such deformities may require early
surgical interventions in order to improve their quality of life. Despite going through these early
surgeries, those patients and their parents must be made aware that additional surgery will probably be
necessary later. Children with severely progressive congenital deficiencies affecting function/health
should be distinguished from ones with sever developmental deformities that can be managed later in
life. In this review, we will focus on growing patients with developmental jaw relationship
abnormalities who seek orthodontic treatment, rather than patients with progressive congenital
deformities affecting function and/or health.
Growing patients who are experiencing developmental jaw relationship abnormalities may be
managed by orthopedic therapy, through the application of orthopedic appliance forces to modulate
bone growth, or by orthognathic surgery, through the surgical repositioning of jaw segments.
However, the management of these patients with dentofacial deformities during their growth presents
a challenging problem for both orthodontists and surgeons. One of the conundrums that makes it
difficult to choose a treatment modality for such problem is the patients age, because there is no
absolute agreement regarding the age limits on orthopedic therapy or orthognathic

Incident In A Rose Garden By Donald Justice
In Incident in a rose garden by Donald Justice, the authors portrays the theme death comes for
everyone by using literary devices such as irony and personification. The author refers to the roses as
people, because the author states Sir, I encountered death just now amongst our roses . As he is
referring to the roses as people. He had also said thin as a scythe , which was referring to how death
was standing so still. Alliteration was also being used when he states Black gloves, and broad black
hat Because it is repetitive.
The gardener noticed death and as he slowly looked at him and started to recognize him, he decided to
run, He then ran into the master who had alerted him that it was his property and that he didn t want

World War 1 Turning Point Essay
World War 1 or the Great War was a turning point for war in itself and for the people s view of it.
Before war was something to be celebrated but the creation of machine guns, gasses, and other
horrible creations of the 1910s made war something to be feared by everyone. The assassination of
Austrian Prince Archduke Ferdinand by a Serbian Nationalist Gavrilo Princip stirred up tensions
leading to World War 1 starting in mid August 1914, which put the Allied powers ( Great Britain,
France, Russia, Italy Japan, and in 1917 the United States) against the Central powers ( Germany,
Austria Hungary, and the Ottoman Empire). World War 1 lasted 4 years and brought more casualties

Fear In The Tell-Tale Heart And The Masque Of Red Death
Fear is beneficial and dismissive
Fear is beneficial. Being cautious in the world is a survival skill and alerts you about your
surroundings. Fear is like a restraint holding you back from the temptation of irrational acts. Except
when the fears releases and lead to paranoia. Sometimes fear clouds the mind of rational thoughts
therefore, it that may or will become an obsession. In Edgar Allan Poe s The Tell Tale Heart , The Pit
and the Pendulum , and The Masque of Red Death , all of the main characters experience fear. Edgar
Allan Poe uses symbolism, irony, and imagery to illuminate how fear distorts the protagonist s mind
and resulting in such fear. The symbols in The Tell Tale Heart and The Masque of Red Death are the
items that the narrator obsesses over due to emotional excesses. An example would be the eye from
The Tell Tale Heart and how that it may be symbolism of his father s judgement. The judgement of the
father s eye haunted [ him ] day and night. (page 74). The eye haunted man with the symbolic of him

Exposing Our Children to Subliminal Messages
President Herbert Hoover once said that, Children are our most valuable resource. Everybody knows
the saying The children are our future. If everyone knows this saying than why are parents exposing
our future to inappropriate and explicit content. This is because most people do not realize the explicit
content their children are being exposed to. The shows, movies, and even commercials children are
watching effect not only their actions and thought process but can also effect the future decisions and
choices they make. From the day we are born to the day we die we have seen many different movies
and seen many different TV shows; while we are watching and hearing these through our own eyes
and ears we do not truly realize what our brains are consuming, because in reality we are viewing and
hearing much more than we can naturally see. Subliminal messages are prearranged thoughts or ideas
placed into the subconscious mind. Subliminal messages involve reacting to stimuli that are above
your physiological threshold but below your perceptual thresholds. So basically your brain processes
the messages without you knowing. The two main types of subliminal messaging are auditory and
visual. In these two categories there are also subcategories. According to Anthony Pratkanis and
Anthony Greenwald, who are Psychology professors, have defined these four different subcategories
as: Subthreshold stimuli which are presented at energy levels too weak to be detected by the audience.

Abbreviations And Initialisms In The NASA
At the core of each topic presented in the lectures was a persistent effort to both, interpret conventions
as well as recognize and understand their exceptions. Heidi Harley s essay Why is it the CIA but not
*the NASA? Acronyms, Initialisms, and Definite Descriptions explores the conventions of how
acronyms and initialisms are treated within the English language. In addition, Harley identifies
patterns of exceptions as well as the reasoning behind them. Specifically, embedded within the title is
a quest to find the reasoning behind when and why acronyms and initialisms are treated as proper
nouns versus definite descriptions. Harley s methodology primarily uses a corpus compromised of
about 200 initialisms and acronyms. Additionally, Harley used elicitation for more gray area cases of
abbreviation, to verify the typical performance. Initially, I reasoned that CIA is performed with the
determiner the , in a definite description structure, since it is initialized, while in contrast, NASA is an
acronym. Furthermore, I noted that this difference may stem from the fact that an acronym forms an
abbreviation that is pronounced ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Specifically, if the abbreviation is an initialism it would tend to retain the categorical status of their
source phrase (Harley 370), i.e. the definite description, the CIA, and the Central Intelligence Agency.
However, if the abbreviation is an acronym, like NASA, it tends to shift from a noun phrase with a
definite description to a proper noun. Harley notes that this tendency is so prevalent that it essentially
has the force of a rule. (Harley 370) Additionally, Harley noted that a main class of exceptions for
initialisms include bare location nominals (377), which is beyond this course but provides a

  • 2. Demian Linder Interview For this interview paper, I decided to interview Demian Linder, a senior software engineer at Kodak Alaris. Demian is a friend of a friend who graciously gave me time to interview him in his busy life and I am glad he did. I learned a lot about software engineering and how college will help me succeed in the upcoming years. I learned what I should expect in the coming years and I did my best to document the conversation. Demian Linder went to college at SUNY Brockport to become a orthopedic surgeon. Towards his senior year, he decided he didn t want to go to school for that long and used his minor in math to do something new. He ended up going to RIT after his time at Brockport. After college, he worked at Kodak for fourteen years before getting another job at Odyssey software in 2008. In 2014, he became a senior software engineer at Kodak Alaris. As a senior software engineer, he works on many software systems and with many languages. As for technologies employed, there are many as well. He works with Microsoft Stack, Azure, IIS, C++ or C# (C# being the language of choice), Oracle SQL, database backends, web services, web api, and wcs services. For testing, he uses code clearcase dealing with saving and version control for software. He uses oracle 11i as well as javascript and Microsoft in the cloud. • 5. Child Rearing Dbq Child rearing from the 16th to the 18th century changed because the child death rate went up during this time period. This caused parents to distance themselves from their children until they grew into adulthood because they just did not know if they were going to survive. Adults did not want to invest that much time and get to emotionally attached to something that was going to die. These distancing views caused adults attitudes towards children to change, they began to have such views as severely disciplining children, wet nursing, and that kids were taught evil or taught to be bad. During this time adults began to severely discipline their children, they did this in several different ways, by degrading [their children] and by strik[ing] ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... People before this time period thought that children were born evil, and that they automatically were just as evil as they were going to be when they were older when they were born. However, a change came about during this time, and people began to believe that children Kn[e]w no evil (Document 6) at birth, that they were only taught to be evil by the people or events around them. That since children have yet to experience bad things happening in their life, they know nothing of anything bad. Also another idea came up during this time that was basically if one teaches their children how to love, and how to love their parents, and if the parents show the children that they are worthy of that love, they will respect and obey their parents better. Sir George Savile in 1628 wrote you must begin early to make your children love you so that they will obey you, (Document 7) showing that if parents would show their children love, they would earn their obedience. • 7. Similarities Between The Birthmark And Rappaccini s Daughter Nathaniel Hawthorne s The Birthmark and Rappaccini s Daughter are both fictional short stories written in the 1800s. Although these are two different scenarios, both tend to share several similarities. They deal with relationships between a man and woman, experiments, and ironically ends with a twist that readers don t expect. In The Birthmark we first learn about the main character named Aylmer. He is fascinated with science. He has devoted himself, however, too unreservedly to scientific studies ever to be weaned from them by any second passion (Hawthorne 952) He eventually finds love with his wife Georgianna, but there is something about her he just will not seem to take much longer. Georgianna has a red birthmark on her cheek which is the shape of a small hand. While she thinks it is beautiful, the most important person in her life doesn t feel the same way. In fact, Aylmer is truly disgusted and in shock by her mark, claiming it is a visible mark of earthly imperfection (Hawthorne 953). Finally telling his wife how he feels, Georgianna is in disbelief. She is upset, hurt, and confused, even questioning their marriage as she tells him You cannot love what shocks you! (Hawthorne 953). The last thing she would have thought is that the person she planned to spend the rest of her life with doesn t see her beauty mark the way she does. For the first time, they no longer see themselves as sons or daughters, brothers or sisters, or students, but as individuals who seek to understand their place in society and search for opportunities to contribute to society. The first phase can be sub divided the spiritual (Montessori 1966 and 2007a) and Social Embryonic (Montessori, 1966 and 2007a). The Spiritual Embryonic is the phase of intellectual development or a period of mental construction of the child that starts developing right after birth and continues developing to three. The Social Embryonic stages slowly replaces subconscious learning with the will to learn. The Child will demonstrate greater awareness of others needs and becomes sensitive to the social aspects of their culture. Montessori talks about Sensitive Periods, which she splits into six. In order to understand these Periods and how children move between these phases, it s important to understand how children take in stimuli from the environment and use it to grow. • 9. John Knowles s A Separate Peace In the first few chapters of A Separate Peace alone, Gene Forrester is John Knowles. In the first chapter, Gene is a grown man fifteen years in the future. He describes Devon School in the summer session in 1942. Devon School is rarely mentioned in the book. In A Separate Peace: The War Within the chronology states that in 1943, a year older than the book, he too went to a summer session at Exeter Academy (Bryant, xi). Knowles, too had a tree that he and other boys jumped off of, but he broke his foot and had to be on crutches (Bryant, xi). This book is a rough autobiography of his life. Gene and the author John Knowles will be explained as WWII in their eyes, the symbolism of Phineas, and the school and the older Gene. In A Separate Peace, the summer session is for seniors who are training for the war. Gene and Phineas are sixteen and not eligible for the draft. As the book states, they jump off the tree used for diving in the river. Gene says in the book The tree was tremendous, an irate, steely black steeple beside the river. I d be damned if I climbed it (Knowles, 14). Similar to the book, Knowles probably thought the same thing after he broke his foot. In The War Within, Bryant states that A Separate Peace can be read as a war book. With this in mind, it was only about two boys who were not of drafting age, but one to two years before it. In the summer session, the teachers are a little less strict, but only to the boys under eighteen. Even then, the boys ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Test The Water Usage Of The Smart Agricultural System To test the water usage of the smart agricultural system, data was collected for the three different types of algorithms implemented for this project: timed based, reactive, and proactive control of the environment. The timed based algorithm turns the water pump on based only on the time of the day. The reactive algorithm turns the water pump on only if the soil moisture falls below a certain threshold. The first two algorithms only consider one type of data for their algorithms, either time or soil moisture. Comparatively, the proactive algorithm actively monitors the environmental conditions to determine the best time to turn the water pump on. The proactive algorithm monitors the soil moisture, temperature, humidity, pressure, time ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This can be compared to high temperatures of 22 degrees Celsius and low temperatures of 18 degrees Celsius in the indoor environment. The reduced temperature variation helps to protect the plants from the extreme weather conditions that the proactive, smart algorithm is able to compensate for. However, since extreme environments would be difficult to reproduce accurately, this factor was not considered for this test. Additionally, because the temperature variation would be applied equally to each of the environments, it was deemed a non significant factor for the purposes of this test. Rain however, was deemed a significant factor for this test. This test is centered on the water usage of the system and as a result, it is important to see the effect of rain on the system. To accurately simulate rain, 20mL of water was dispensed to each of the environments on the 3rd day of the test. The water was dispensed using a measuring cup containing the set amount of water. The weather data was also spoofed to change the weather status to rain. This was accomplished by replacing the weather JSON file that would have been requested from openweather.org, with a fake weather JSON file with the spoofed values. Finally, it should be noted that the sensor module pushes new data to the Webserver at a rate of one packet every minute. • 11. Why Is Henrietta Lacks Unethical The Immortal Life of Henrietta Lacks is a novel written by Rabecca Skloot that outlines the life and story of a woman named Henrietta Lacks and her families struggle to discover the truth. Henrietta Lacks was and African American women who was diagnosed with cervical cancer at the age of thirty. A doctor at John Hopkins Hospital examined Henrietta and a biopsy of the cancerous tissue was retrieved. Henrietta received treatment for her cancer, but the cancer was too aggressive and she soon passed away at age of thirty one, but her cells continue to live today. Henrietta Lack s cells were unlike any other humans cells ever examined. The cells were able to grow, multiply, and divide outside of the human body in a lab (Skloot 2010). This was a major scientific discovery. Henrietta s cells, more commonly known to the public as HeLa, aided in the creation of several scientific discoveries and are still used today. It is because of HeLa we have the polio vaccine, a better understanding of cancer, and cells in general. The cells have even been sent into space and have been exposed to nuclear testing and to toxins (BigPicture). Although Henrietta Lacks s cells have done a lot good, many ethical issues surround her case such as privacy issues, monetary compensation, exploitation, and cell contamination to name a few. Perhaps the most important and controversial ethical issue in Hennrietta s case resides around consent, or the lack there of. When Henrietta was at John Hopkins receiving her cancer treatment a doctor by the name of TeLinde took a sample of Henrietta s cervix without her knowledge or consent. But first though no one had told Henrietta that Telinde was collecting sample or asked she wanted to be a donor Wharton picked up a sharp knife and shaved two dime sized pieces of tissue from Henritta s cervix: one from her tumor, and one from the healthy cervical tissue nearby. Then he placed the sample in a glass dish (Skloot, 2010, 33). At the time of the treatment Henrietta was unconscious and completely unable to accept or reject the biopsy (Skloot, 2010, 33). Acquiring proper consent from an individual is an ongoing process and needs to be asked for at every stage of a study with human subjects. The basic ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

I can confidently say that a coffee from a coffee shop is an item that I absolutely by on a daily basis. Some other items I purchase somewhat regularly, but on a less frequent basis than a daily coffee, would be weekly or biweekly groceries. A little less frequently I will make beauty purchases. I would say on a monthly basis I will buy hair products and make up. Although there are many other purchase that I make within a given year, I would say that these items are the consistent ones that I continue purchase regularly. After multiple political leaders, including the King himself, had been disposed of the French people had grouped themselves into various political parties. France was in turmoil. Without a solid leader to demand control of the country, the people led many revolts leading to a national depression. Growing up during this time of instability, the popular general Napoleon Buonaparte, knew what his country needed to come back to power. He understood that only the Catholic religion stirred the emotions of the people, could effectively mend the religious divisions of the revolution, provide a basis for morality, and support the authority of the new Consular regime. In 1801, Napoleon signed the Concordat with Pope Pius VII. It recognized Catholicism as the main religion of France, but at the same time gave religious freedom to those who were not Catholic. In many articles in the Concordat, you see where the State has preference over the Church. In Article Six, it calls for bishops to take an oath to the First Consul, and in Article Eight, a prayer to the Republic will be repeated at the end of divine office. Napoleon is able to have control over the Catholic Church without committing himself or any of his subjects to any certain religion. On December 2, 1804, Napoleon used the Concordat to his advantage when consecrating himself the new emperor. Napoleon I s coronation did not include the traditional sacramental rites of other imperial or royal coronations, which meaningfully indicated a decrease in the papal role in consecrating the new emperor. This symbolic act meant that Napoleon did not owe his crown to anyone, and that the Pope was not a higher power than he. The word ad means near or at and the word renes means kidneys. So when you put both words together it means near or at kidneys. Both Adrenal Glands are triangular shaped organs, and when measured is about one and a half inches in height and three inches in length. These small glands not only produce adrenaline, but several other hormones as well which are important for different functions of our body. Other than adrenaline and noradrenalin, the main class of hormones produced by these organs is corticosteroid hormones. The Adrenal Gland is made up of two parts: the Adrenal Cortex and the Adrenal Medulla. The Adrenal Cortex is the outer layer of the Adrenal Glands. The Adrenal Cortex only produces hormones that are vital and important to have in your life. The Adrenal Cortex is the site of all of our steroid production, including steroids which calm down the immune system in allergic responses (they are anti inflammatories) and the hormone testosterone. • 28. Symptoms And Symptoms Of Children With Developmental Jaw... Severe dentofacial/crainiofacial deformities affecting children can have an adverse effect on their function (eg, mastication, swallowing, breathing, or speech). Such deformities may require early surgical interventions in order to improve their quality of life. Despite going through these early surgeries, those patients and their parents must be made aware that additional surgery will probably be necessary later. Children with severely progressive congenital deficiencies affecting function/health should be distinguished from ones with sever developmental deformities that can be managed later in life. In this review, we will focus on growing patients with developmental jaw relationship abnormalities who seek orthodontic treatment, rather than patients with progressive congenital deformities affecting function and/or health. Growing patients who are experiencing developmental jaw relationship abnormalities may be managed by orthopedic therapy, through the application of orthopedic appliance forces to modulate bone growth, or by orthognathic surgery, through the surgical repositioning of jaw segments. However, the management of these patients with dentofacial deformities during their growth presents a challenging problem for both orthodontists and surgeons. One of the conundrums that makes it difficult to choose a treatment modality for such problem is the patients age, because there is no absolute agreement regarding the age limits on orthopedic therapy or orthognathic ... If everyone knows this saying than why are parents exposing our future to inappropriate and explicit content. This is because most people do not realize the explicit content their children are being exposed to. The shows, movies, and even commercials children are watching effect not only their actions and thought process but can also effect the future decisions and choices they make. From the day we are born to the day we die we have seen many different movies and seen many different TV shows; while we are watching and hearing these through our own eyes and ears we do not truly realize what our brains are consuming, because in reality we are viewing and hearing much more than we can naturally see. Subliminal messages are prearranged thoughts or ideas placed into the subconscious mind. Subliminal messages involve reacting to stimuli that are above your physiological threshold but below your perceptual thresholds. So basically your brain processes the messages without you knowing. The two main types of subliminal messaging are auditory and visual. In these two categories there are also subcategories.
