Summary Of Babe Ruth
With the way the author, Bryson describes George Ruth s upbringing and the tough hand that Babe
was dealt with at such an early age, it seems as if he painted a fairy tale with happily ever after at the
end. To read and to try and grasp what Babe Ruth was able to achieve, it is the most unbelievable
underdog story that I have ever read. While I was reading, I had the feeling that Bill Bryson believed
that George Ruth was a good person and even coming from such a rough city such as Baltimore. He
even disagreed with what babe said in his autobiography. In the book, Bryson says The opening
sentence of Ruth s autobiography is, I was a bad kid. Which is no more than partly true (Bryson 107).
By just the second sentence in the second paragraph, it is clear that Bryson thought, even since Ruth s
childhood, he is a good kid who was stuck behind the 8 ball. Coming from an impoverished family,
having almost all of his siblings die, losing both his father and mother who were distracted anyway.
His mother slowly dying of tuberculosis and his father single handedly running their saloon during all
of his waking hours just so they could have money to survive (Bryson 107). While reading this initial
background on Babe Ruth, I didn t know just how rough he had it. I assumed like most of the athletes
in today s world, his family was able to pay for him to have baseball lessons and training with some of
the best trainers that money can buy. Knowing that Babe Ruth was the epitome of an

Pros And Cons Of The Aztec Empire
The 1300 s was not a time of peace for the mesoamerican region. Just Prior to the the time period of
the 1300 s, the Toltecs lost their empire to a vast war along with the Tula and Chichén Itzá. The
aftermath of this war left the area unruled for a couple of centuries. The aztecs finally settled down in
the area we know today as mexico city, around the time of 1325 1345. This settlement known as the
aztec empire ended up being the most powerful of the indian empires of central america; instilling fear
in all the regions around them and withholding the reputation of being a ferocious cult waging war
against anyone. As the aztecs people settled in, more expressions of art were being seen in jewelry,
clothes, structures, statues, ceremonial knives,

Five Elements Of The Theft Act 1968 (TA 1968)
If found liable, Justin and Robbie could both be charged with the property offence of theft under s.1 of
the Theft Act 1968 (TA 1968). The Act states A person is guilty of theft if he dishonestly appropriates
property belonging to another with the intention of permanently depriving the other of it... In order for
the offence of theft to be applied, Justin and Robbie must satisfy all five elements of the actus reus and
mens rea at the same time for the prosecution to prove liability. The actus reus of the offence of theft is
outlined in s.1(1) of the TA 1968 as; appropriation of property belonging to another . Appropriation is
defined in s.3 (1) of the TA 1968 as Any assumption by a person of the rights of an owner amounts to

Robbie stabbed Tommy after the alteration in the bank where Tommy punched Robbie in the face. For
Robbie to complete the actus reus of murder, the stabbing needs to be the reason for Tommy s death.
Nevertheless, Robbie stabbing Tommy does not need to be the sole or even the main cause of Tommy
s death. Robbie s stabbing needs only to make a substantial contribution to the killing as decided in R
v Cheshire. In order for Robbie to satisfy the elements of the actus reus, he must also satisfy causation.
R v White, sets out the but for test which asks; but for the actions of the defendant, would the result
have occurred? Robbie stabbing Tommy twice is the only reason for Tommy s death. R v Cato also
held that the defendants conduct must be more than a minimal cause of the consequences, but it is not
required for it to be the substantial cause. Therefore, there is no intervening act, and the chain of
causation is not broke. Tommy s injuries from the stabbing were the reason for his death and he would
not have died had Robbie not stabbed

Ernest L. Blumenschein Research Paper
Understanding art is not always easy. If we really want to understand what a particular work of art, we
have to see and to feel what the artist felt when I painted the picture. Some artists create works of art

At the point when Ernest demonstrated an enthusiasm for workmanship, his dad just pushed him
harder to stay committed to music, feeling that was the place his most prominent ability lay. At 17,
Blumenschein won a grant to learn at the Cincinnati College of Music. In any case, while considering
music he likewise selected in classes at the Art Academy. He was soon persuaded that his future
profession was to be that of a craftsman, and subsequently moved to New York City to study painting
at the Art Students League. On the other hand, he remained a hugely capable artist, supporting himself
by playing first violin in the New York Symphony. The conductor at the time was none other than the
world well known Czech author, Anton Dvorak. Dvorak was clearly so awed with the youth that he
selected him first violin promptly in the wake of listening to him play a D minor scale. Few
individuals would have surrendered a music profession that was set for such a promising begin (most
definitely), yet Blumenschein had settled on his choice. Today, Blumenschein s work is held by the
most prestigious galleries in the nation, including the Museum of Modern Art, New York, the

Similarities Between Southwest And Southwest Airlines
Southwest Airlines comparison with other US Airlines:
Southwest s greatest strength is its ranking number one in US domestic airlines, in terms of number of
passengers/load factor as can be seen from Exibit 1 C with southwest topping the chart as compared to
other airlines. American Airlines, the world s largest airline, was on the brink of bankruptcy despite
$1.8 billion .Delta, with combined losses of $8.5 billion from 2001 to 2004, was almost bankrupt. ATA
Airlines, the tenth largest carrier in the United States, filed for bankruptcy in 2004. In general Us

The financial success of Southwest has received a large amount of free publicity that has certainly
helped to create an image of an airline to be trusted and used by many passengers. They had 31 years
of continuous profitability.
Lot of airlines came and tried to copy southwest model but almost 97% of the startups failed.
Southwest s competitive advantage in providing low cost is of the primary reasons which their
competitors couldn t match. The airline has the lowest costs on a per mile basis among all the major
airlines as they used single aircraft type and the highly efficient, high frequency ad point to point route
scheme. Due to this commoditization of the industry, passenger profiles have changed with business
and first class seat demand in great decline. This correlates perfectly with Southwest s position of no
assigned seats or class designations. Competing companies have been forced to introduce low fare
options in attempts to regain lost market share from low priced air carriers. Because Southwest s
strategy has always been low cost, and standardized travel, they have not had to change strategy. This
has saved them what could amount to millions on restructuring costs. Also, some of the competitors
tried to increase no of flights which resulted in operational ineffectiveness

Henry Iv And Henry V By William Shakespeare
In Henry IV and Henry V by Shakespeare, a father and son have diametrically different reigns as king.
While both kings are politically savvy and gain the favor of the people, only one, Henry V, has the
divine right of kings. The divine right of kings is the belief that power is instilled in them by God and
rebellion against them is considered a sin. The influence of divine intervention is shown through the
punishment and guilt of Henry IV and the success of Henry V. The rule of Henry IV illustrates the fate
of one who seizes a crown that is not rightfully his by divine ordinance: a reign troubled with treason
and uprisings. He does not have the right to rule because he has not obtained the crown through the
law of primogeniture and therefore lacks the divine power imparted on those who gain the throne
legitimately. Henry IV seems to have all of the right characteristics to be a successful king; however,
he comes to the throne as an illegitimate ruler with the responsibility of the death of God s chosen
king, Richard II, on his shoulders. These actions cause Henry IV to incur the wrath of God against him
and to have a reign plagued with conflict; his ambitiousness and political intelligence cannot fight
back against the divine punishment inflicted upon him. His divine punishment dictates that he will
have no peace in his rule. The instability of England when Henry IV becomes king is foreshadowed by
Carlisle: In this seat of peace tumultuous wars / Shall kin with kin and

The Political Life Of Otto Von Bismarck
Otto von Bismarck was born in 1815 to wealthy family of the junker class. His father was a Prussian
Military officer and his mother was the daughter of a politician. Bismarck went on to have many
political positions in his life. The two most important are, his time as Minister President of Prussia and
as Chancellor of the German Empire. Throughout his political career Bismarck proved to be a man
who would change ideals if he thought it would yield the best results.
In 1862 Bismarck was appointed as the Minister President of Prussia. Bismarck s views were that of
Realpolitik. Realpolitik is a way of viewing things in a practical manner not in a moral or ideological
way. (162) This was evident throughout his career. During his time Minister President, he mostly
focused on foreign policy. Although domestically he wanted to stop the liberals who were in the
Prussian parliament. liberals thought that the government s actions at the time were unconstitutional.
Bismarck, on the other hand, believed that there was no way that the constitution was meant to
undermine the state. (163) Shortly after this he moved his focus to his foreign policy, the unification of
the German states. This all started with his blood and iron speech in 1862 where he is quoted saying,
Not by speeches and votes of the majority, are the great questions of the time decided that was the
error of 1848 and 1849 but by iron and blood. . (163) This lead up to a number wars to achieve his
goal of unification.

Compare And Contrast The University Of Tampa And The...
The University of Tampa and The Renaissance architecture: How an obsolete hotel and sense of
individualism shaped the campus s future design Without any doubt the architecture of University of
Tampa buildings is among the most spectacular designs within Tampa Bay. If you walk through the
campus it is almost impossible not to notice the round arches, the pointed domes, and the Herringbone
brickwork. The architecture methods are immensely similar to the classical revival period of
Renaissance art. But what made the UT campus look what it does today? Why is there always an
inevitable sense of renaissance architecture present? To answer these questions, first we need to obtain
a good knowledge of the university s background. University of Tampa as we know it today was much
smaller back in 1931 when it was first established as Tampa Junior College. During the summer of
1933 the college was moved to its present location, then the inoperative Tampa Bay Hotel. With the
expansion provided by the relocation the junior college was promoted to a complete university called

Annotated Bibliography On Database Management Systems
The ability to store information has always been important for our survival. In the beginning,
information used to be shared by word of mouth. Then, with the invention of writing, data slowly
started to be stored in books kept in libraries, sorted in specific order that made them easily accessible.
Finally, the invention of the computers led to the evolution of databases.
Databases are important, because thanks to them humans are able to store and later on retrieve
information. The way in which databases arise is very simple. It all begins as a list in a word
processing system. As the size of the list increases, the data starts to appear inconsistent. If this occurs,
Database Management Systems come to help, due to the fact they can store a large amount of
information in a number of tables linked to each other. Programs such as Access are able to add new
data to a database or make changes to already existing data from the database; they are even able to
delete information.
These features assist people in analyzing and categorizing information in the following way:
Tables lie in the core of any given database. Thanks to them, the possibility of redundancy is greatly
reduced. A database can consist of a number of different tables which enables the researcher to break
information down into smaller (and easier to analyse) pieces. Just like spread sheets, they consist of
rows (also called records) and columns (fields). By using records, researchers are able to combine

A Study Of The Trinity
Hey small group dwellers, I Can not wait to continue our bible study of the four gospels this week, I
hope to see you all there. Before we continued on to the next part of our bible study I wanted to make
sure we were on the same page since I knew a few of you had questions about the trinity last week.
Let me start with thanking all of you for being so gracious with me. Before I answered your questions
I wanted to make sure I had done the adequate amount of research. The topic of the trinity is often
taught wrong and is equally confusing at times. The four major questions that I wanted to tackle are:
(1) Is there only one God, (2) Are all three figures of the trinity divine, (3) Is the father not the son,
who is not the spirit, (4) How ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
1 Corinthians emphasizes that there may be other fake gods but there is only one truth God. A really
God whom all things came from. The question Is there only one God gets complicated when
wondering how Jesus can be God when there is also Father God and the Holy spirit which brings us to
our next question I want to tackle.
Are all three figures of the trinity divine? First I wanted to identify the three figures in the trinity.
Jesus Christ, The Father, and the Holy Spirit are the divine trinity. Colossians 2:9 (NIV) helps us
understand who Jesus Christ is more; For in Christ all the fullness of the Deity lives in bodily form
(Bible Gateway). This text shows us that Jesus Christ is 100% divine and 100% man. Another text that
helps us understand more is Hebrews 1:2 3 (NIV):
But in these last days he has spoken to us by his Son, whom he appointed heir of all things, and
through whom also he made the universe. 3 The Son is the radiance of God s glory and the exact
representation of his being, sustaining all things by his powerful word. After he had provided
purification for sins, he sat down at the right hand of the Majesty in heaven (Bible Gateway).
Hebrews helps us understand that Jesus is the exact representation of the Father and who is on the
right hand

Vitamin C And Its Effect On Human Body
Chapter 1
1. Introduction
1.1. Vitamin B
Vitamins are a class of naturally occurring chemical compounds needed in fixed amounts for
important body functions. They play important role in energy generations, red blood cells and
neurochemical production. They are micro nutrients which are involved in the biological wear and tear
of the body and an important part of a balance diet. Since the human body cannot produce vitamins
which are required in normal concentration; they can be gained either from food sources or from
dietary supplements. There are total of 13 kinds of vitamins needed by the human body comprising of
vitamin A, vitamin C, vitamin D, vitamin K and eight included in the group vitamin B (B1, B2, B3,
B5, B6, B7, B9 and B12). Vitamin B group or complex contains all the water soluble vitamins that
play an important role in metabolism. Due to the watery composition of our body, these vitamins have
the ability to move inside our body and can be removed through urine without any difficulty. Thus,
such vitamins are not stored by our bodies and need replenishing on a daily basis. Fruits and
vegetables are rich sources of vitamin B complex for the body. Processed foods lose their vitamin B
content thus through the process of enrichment as specified by food laws and regulations, the vitamin
B is added into the food. Rich sources of vitamin B include potatoes, whole grains, legumes, nuts,
meat and fish. Due to their delicate chemical nature, vitamin B complex is

Harriet Jacobs Essay
My master had power and low on his side; I had determined will. There is might in
each a statement from Harriet Ann Jacobs reflecting her will to overcome the standards of
society (97). Harriet Jacobs life revolved around slavery from birth to death. Jacobs was a
mother of two with determination and insight to make choices to change the way of life for
her children. Harriet Jacobs was the first African American women to have her slave narrative
published retelling her life story exposing the years she spent escaping slavery and the latter
helping others escape (Andrews 2). The African American race experienced much intolerance,
especially the women, but Harriet fought back and never gave up.
Harriet, born in the fall of 1813 in North Carolina, spent all of her early life in slave
hood. She did not fully realize that she was a slave until she was six and her first owner, Margret
Horniblow, passed away and she was given to her niece Mary Matilda Norcom (Jacobs 11). This
was when her true struggle began because Mary was not old enough to own Harriet so Mary s
father Dr. James Norcom became Harriet s de facto master. Dr. Norcom sexually abused Harriet
and this information remained secret until much later in Harriet s life (Andrews 1). Harriet had
two children, a boy named Joseph and a girl named Louisa, by a white attorney named Samuel
Tredwell Sawyer (Smith 144). When Harriet was twenty she could no longer take the abuse from

The Effects Of Being Vegetarian On Our Brain Essay
Introduction In this paper I will discuss the effects of being vegetarian on our brain depending on the
amount of vitamins and minerals we consume through this diet, and how it affects the way our brain
functions. Being a vegetarian is a very powerful decision, because it takes into account your moral
standards and beliefs. Putting your morals into your nutrition is very empowering, but it can affect our
bodies in many different ways whether that being positive or negative. The negative side of the
spectrum is that meat and animal products contain so many different vitamins and minerals that when
we take this away it can cause deficiencies in the diet that can affect our bodies in very vast ways
including our brain function.
The Negative Side of the Spectrum Vitamins and minerals are key to the proper function and
development of our brain. Two of the most important nutrients contributing to our brains include
vitamin B12 and the omega 3 fatty acid. Vitamin B12 is a key factor in the development of the brain,
while omega 3 fatty acids contribute to better pregnancy outcome and reduced risk for brain disorders.
Both of these nutrients are low in the vegetarian diet, which means deficiencies are very common
among them. This also means vegetarians are at a higher risk for brain disorders or impairment. Our
nutrient intake also directly correlates with our offspring. In a study it states that the offspring from the
vitamin B12 deficient group showed impaired cognition as they

Examples Of Trickster Archetype
Tricksters The Merriam Webster English dictionary defines an archetype as a perfect example of
something . A trickster is one who exhibits a great degree of intellect or secret knowledge, and uses it
to deceive others or disobey conventional rules. The trickster archetype appears frequently in literary
and non literary pieces due to its ability to add suspense and amusement to a story. Loki, for example,
a popular example of a trickster; the Norse fire god s image was preserved for centuries in different
stories. This was due to his ability to bring a sense of drama into tales. Three lesser known trickster
archetypes that I would like to talk about are, Ekwensu an African god of trade, Kitsune the mythical
Japanese tricksters, and Br er Rabbit, the classical American fairy tale trickster. ... Show more content

Mount Agung Or Gunung Agung
Mount Agung or Gunung Agung (Great Mountain) is located at the highest point on the beautiful
island of Bali, a province of Indonesia. Mount Agung is exceptionally steep and almost completely
barren on top. From afar it appears unassumingly innocent and perfectly dome shaped, with the
exception of a 1706 by 1230 foot open volcanic crater. Highly regarded by its villagers, Mount Agung
controls the surrounding areas by influencing the climate through water absorption from incoming
western clouds. This keeps the western area of Bali luxurious and green while the eastern area remains
dry and infertile. Mount Agung is located on the eastern side of the island sloping north east towards
the Bali Sea. To the southwest there is a row of small extinct volcanic cones, and towards the
northwest the volcano is separated by a narrow valley from Mount Batur. It is believed, by the
Balinese, to be a replica of Mount Meru a holy mountain in Hindu as well as Buddhist cosmology.
Myth has it that Mount Agung is a part of Meru that was carried by the earliest Hindus to Bali. On the
slopes of the mountain also lies Bali s stunning Besakih Temple. Although this sounds like it could be
a scenic getaway on a beautiful island, much like Hawaii, the Bali islanders will never forget the mass
destruction caused by Mount Agung s last recorded volcanic eruption in 1963 64.
A daily reminder of this devastation is the fact that Mount Agung remains an active volcano which
continues to burp smoke and ash.

Hamlet Movie Vs Play
The play Hamlet by William Shakespeare is about a king that was murdered by his brother and the
main character Hamlet, who is the prince and also the king s son was told by the ghost of his father to
avenge his murder. In the play Hamlet, there are many differences compared to the movie Hamlet
2000 directed by Michael Almereyda. The reason to these differences is to show a modern setting in
the movie Hamlet 2000 , to show the audience a better understanding of the characters, and the
difference in the way the movie ends compared to the original play by Shakespeare.
The first difference is the setting compared to the play and the movie. In the original play the setting
takes place in Elsinore, Denmark in the royal palace in the late Middle Ages around the 14th and 15th
century. The play starts off with the guards in the castle and Horatio who is one of the guards is the
first to see the ghost. But as shown in the movie the setting starts off in New York City in the 2000 s.
The director did this to make it different to the book and to other Hamlet movies. It made it more
modern and interesting the director might have done this to make the audience understand the movie a
little better. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Cleopatra
Cleopatra had a very extraordinary life. She was born into royalty and became a ruler at a very young
age due to her father s death. She was married four times, first to her two younger brothers, third to
Julius Caesar and fourth to Marc Antony. She had four children with both Julius Caesar and marc
Antony. Cleopatra also had 5 siblings. Later on, in life, Cleopatra committed suicide.
Cleopatra was born in 69 BC in Alexandria, Egypt (Cleopatra: The Woman Behind the Name.) Her

Cleopatra chose to go back to Egypt. On her way back to Egypt she made a stop in Cyprus which had
been granted to her younger sister Arsinoe and her younger brother and co ruler Ptolemy XIV, in order
to ensure that she was known as their true ruler. As Cleopatra arrived in Egypt she immediately took
steps to consolidate her rule. A document dated July 26 44 BC, Ptolemy XIV s name appeared, but
after that date he disappeared many say that Cleopatra ordered for him to be poisoned and it is notable
that around this time she dropped the epithet brother loving from her titles. Cleopatra confirmed her
son by Julius Caesar, Caesarion, co regent. Cleopatra also continued to build the Caesareum in honor
of Caesar. In Dendera, Caesarion was depicted in front of images of Cleopatra, asserting him as the
primary ruler (Ancient Egypt Online.) Cleopatra and Marc Antony spent the winter of 41 to 40 BC in

Interest rates
Most businesses will need to borrow money. The interest rate will affect how much it costs a business
to borrow money. If the interest rate is high the money a business owes is more than before. A 20%
interest rate rise would affect Cadbury s; they would have to pay extra money towards the loan. This
too would affect Sainsbury s in the same way. Any interest rates that go up will affect a business
because the business needs to make up the costs and the only way to do this is to higher the prices of

Cadburys could update products such as dairy milk. Or they could change the packet and make it more

Sainsbury s could sell healthier foods like their be good to yourself range. This is very successful
because Jamie Oliver is advertising and when he says it s good it is good. Vouchers for active kids will
make people buy their products. Nectar points will make people buy the products too because people
will spend money and save money at the same time.
The Environment
The environment can be a big factor in the running of a business because if they do anything to affect
the environment they will get loads of environmental protesters trying to close down the factory or
trying to ban the product. If Cadburys were to produce too much pollution they would be greatly
concentrated on and their reputation would be lost. In their case they would loose a lot of money
because they only sell edible products so they would be closed down, [IMAGE]but if Sainsbury s got

Environmental Effects Of Overfishing
The ocean is one of the largest sources of food and income for countries all across the globe. As the
fishing industry and human population grow, more and more resources are being taken out of the
ocean every year. If this process continues without any type of new regulation, our oceans supply of
resources will quickly start depleting. Without a sustainable output from our oceans, millions of
people will be losing income that they thought they could rely on forever. While most people are not
aware of this problem, over the past fifty years overfishing has developed into a huge environmental
issue that could have catastrophic global effects on us in the future if left untreated. According to
WorldWildlife.org, More than 85 percent of the world s fisheries have been pushed to or beyond their
biological limits and are in need of strict management plans to restore them (WWL.org). This statistic
shows that most of our oceans resources are being overused and depleted. Some of the the most
important fish species, for example, the bluefin tuna, have been exploited to the point that their
population s survival is at risk. The overfishing of top predators disrupts marine ecosystems and food
chains, leaving a large quantity of smaller populations. This type of imbalance can be very dangerous
to the oceans ecosystems by throwing off the natural order of predators. In the past fishing was more
sustainable because the technology that is used today did not exist. They did not

Johannes Gutenberg Influence
Johannes Gutenberg, born 1395 A.D. in Mainz, Germany, was said to have apprenticed as a goldsmith,
which prompted him to invent the printing press. Gutenberg began to trifle with metal alloys and

enough to last thousands of impressions. Gutenberg s invention allowed for a simpler, faster process,
and offered longer lasting materials. The instant effect of the moveable type printing press was
influential in the expanse of human existence. Gutenberg s most notable and first successful print job
was the 42 Line Bible. From the moment of its inception, the printed book became the universal
standard in publishing and literary devices.
In addition to the printing press, Gutenberg developed a new oil based ink that was more durable and
higher in quality than the water based inks used at that time. The moveable printing press had a hand
in the scientific revolution by enabling scientists to publish their findings in scholarly articles. The
availability of the written word used to be something that was subjugated to the rich and powerful. It
soon became a common basis for information distribution to all members of society after Gutenberg.

Oral History Of The September 11, 2001 Attacks Essay
Oral History of the September 11, 2001 Attacks The day September 11, 2001 stands out in the minds
of all Americans, not only because it changed the course of history, but it affected the daily lives of
America s people. Whether they encountered the events first hand in New York City, or they simply
watched the iconic World Trade Center fall on television as the events unfolded, the assaults of 9/11
have left a permanent stain on the lives of America s citizens. Individuals such as my father, Kurt M.
Thomas, have vivid recollections of exactly where they were on the day of the attack. However, the
retention of this event is not the only result of these events, for Dad s experience as an American
citizen who lived through the September 11, 2001 terrorist attacks is one that reflects the pervasive
apprehension that many Americans have towards the future of the United States and its relations with
counties of the Middle East as a result of the fear experienced that day. His recollection expresses the
nativist concern and fear for oneself and one s nation that many Americans articulated throughout the
course of history.
On the day of the attack, Dad said he experienced a fear that he had never quite experienced until that
point in his life. He retorted, Growing up, bomb threats were taken as joke. No one took them
seriously until after the attacks on September 11. The first memory that Dad had when I asked him to
tell me about the events of 9/11 was his location. In Carroll

Reaction Paper On Reflexology
There is evidence that reflexology has been around for many centuries and practiced by many
different cultures including Chinese and Egyptians (Gillanders 2008, Mei Yeh, Pei Shan, Pi Hsia, Wen
Yin,Che Ming, 2008). Archeologists have uncovered various pictures in tombs of ancient Egyptians
working on what is believed to be patient s hands and feet (Gillanders pg. 12). Reflexology dates back
to 2330 BCE, and has become a very sought after healing treatment for patients of many different
illnesses. In the 4th century, a Chinese acupuncturist called Dr. Ko Hung discovered that using his
thumbs to apply a deep pressure to the soles of the feet while acupuncture needles were in the place
was a means of enhancing healing and encouraging energy to be released . Sometimes reflexology is
still referred to as acupuncture without the use of needles (Gillanders pg. 12). It has only become
popular in the United States last in the 100 years. Zone therapy was the precursor to modern
reflexology, which was reborn through the work of William H Fitzgerald MD in the early 20th
century. He was an ear, nose, and throat specialist in the Boston City Hospital in Connecticut. Dr.
Fitzgerald discovered that by applying pressure to the tops of the fingers with metal clamps, and
winding tight elastic bands around the middle section of each finger, he created an anesthetic effect on
the facial area. By this, he was able to do simple ear, nose, and throat surgery without any anesthesia.

Shirin Gender Roles
The film talks about a medical company where a married couple Shirin and Ahmad work. Shirin
notices that the president of the company is committing fraud and she asks Ahmad for his help. The
president is fired and Ahmad thinks that he will be the new president, but the board of directors
chooses Shirin as the new president. Ahmad refused that the new boss is his wife and he starts to
create problems at work and at home.
The main characters
Ahmad: the vice president of the medical company
Shirin: Ahmad s wife and the president of the same company
Discussion:
In this film, the character of Shirin is very influential and for the first time in Iranian cinema, women
character stereotypes are changed and a female character is the main character. The female character is
active and talkative as much as the male character. Shirin has 78 minutes on screen, while Ahmad has

Feminist Liberation Movement
I wonder why it took such an extended time for women to come up with a feminist spiritual movement
in the Church, since it seems like they have been oppressed for so long? Feminist spirituality is a
relatively new field that has grown out of the struggle of women for equality in both society and
Church (CTM p. 184). Feminist spirituality is an expression of a current theology that has originated
in Latin America that emphasizes the theme of liberation from oppression (CTM p. 255). Additionally,
I wonder if the Second Vatican Council had something to do with the upbringing of this movement? I
also wonder if the Civil Rights Movement during the 1960s, provided women with the fearlessness to
march for their rights in society and the Church? Feminist ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Therefore, these events had a great influence in shaping the Catholic feminist movement, and
ultimately turning it into a form of spirituality. According to the Mary Joanne Henold, from the

sexist event that enraged and exhilarated Catholic women in equal measure, as a catalyst of the
movement within the church. (https://www.uncpress.org/book/9780807873533/catholic and feminist/)
In other words, it is evidently comprehensible that the Second Vatican Council pushed women to the
side, consequently establishing a movement. In addition, I think that women have the right to object
their rights within the Church, with the feminist movement, owing to the fact that they have been
defined in terms of their sexual, reproductive functions, values or personal possibilities which are
determined by biology (CTM p. 185). Ultimately, this makes women feel oppressed and alienated
from themselves, which I believe is

Western Symbolism In John Wayne s The Searchers
Iconography is the standard visual elements used repeatedly in films that have a specific meaning.
Outside of the genre or independently these symbols hold little significance. The Western genre is an
obvious. The surface appearance of the film signals the film s genre. For the Western these include can
horses, pistols, holsters, wide brimmed hats, spurs, saloons, sheriffs, and stagecoaches. This
iconography situates the film for the audience. The western landscape is likely the most important and
recognizable symbol of the genre. Rather than shooting within a studio set and soundstage, most of the
action is shot on location in New Mexico. Though shooting on location has its drawbacks, it facilitates

3:10 to Yuma follows this tradition of the quest or captivity narrative, as the plot is structured around
getting Bed Wade on the 3:10 train heading to Yuma prison. As a notorious criminal and murderer, if
he makes it to Yuma he will be sentenced to death, intensifying the consequences. The film follows the
Classical Hollywood convention of using deadlines and appointments to drive the film s narrative and
plot. The goal of Dan Evans is to get him on the train or die trying. The contracts states that Evans
only needs to get Wade onto the train to receive his reward. The film creates the sense of an epic
journey from the Evans ranch to Contention, centred on the building of the transcontinental railroad.
The film s ending is an ambiguous one. Wade surrenders himself and his weapons when boarding the
train to Yuma. As the train takes off around the bend, Wade whistles, summoning his trusted horse that
gallops alongside the train. It is suggested that Wade will escape as he has escaped from Yuma prison
twice before. 3:10 to Yuma follows the narrative strategy of an ambiguous ending typical of the genre.
The hero either departs or is killed at the end of the film. He does not, however, conform or assimilate
to the dominate values of the community. The hero holds to his individuality strongly to the bitter end.
As Wade departs and Evans dies,

Personal Narratives Have Deep Origins In Ancient History.
Personal narratives have deep origins in ancient history. Narratives and personal essays were used by
ancient writers and philosophers like Cicero, Seneca, and Plutarch to reflect on their individual
experiences. The actual idea of the personal essay was named and perfected by late 16th century
writer Michel de Montaigne, who attempted, or essayed, to describe his experiences in the context of
the world around him. He claimed that the subject of my work is me. In other words, the purpose of
the personal essay or narrative is to incorporate self experiences in informal reflections about the
world. In the modern age, the focus of art, literature, and philosophy shifted towards the individual
and the importance of self, the emotions, and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In the account, Dillard recalls a memory from her youth of the events of one winter day. Young Dillard
and her friends were throwing snowballs at passing cars. One car owner actually got out of his car and
chased Dillard and her friends through their neighborhood, before finally catching and then letting
them go. Dillard uses a personal experience from her youth to impart the lesson that one must fling
themselves at something in order to get it. While Annie Dillard s The Chase recalls a childhood
memory, George Orwell s Shooting an Elephant refers to Orwell s experience from his adult life. At
the time of the narrative, Orwell was a sub divisional police officer in Burma. He is faced with the
choice of shooting an elephant that had gone rogue to gain the respect of the natives or letting the
elephant be and returning it to its holder. Orwell chooses to shoot the elephant in order to appease the
natives. In his narrative, Orwell explores the idea of power through his own experience as an adult. In
personal narratives, authors typically use description to make the story more relatable and engaging to
the audience. This is done, in part, by sensory details. Sensory details enable the author to recreate
their personal experience for the reader. In addition, the descriptions help the reader better relate to the
author. Sensory details also enable understanding, as understanding can be a

Myspace And Myspace By Danah Boyd Analysis
Before I read Danah Boyd s essay, I was confused with the title Viewing American class divisions

social networks, but now I understand that she was talking about social class. Her content was
abundant that she used such advanced terminologies to describe those users of MySpace and
Facebook. The most wonderful part of this essay was she used neutural (but a little bit partial) point of
view to convey her thought based on some judgements. Boyd wrote I don t have the language to get at

She described how good kids are flocking in Facebook and bad kids are flocking in MySpace. Many
of them left MySpace for Facebook in high school. Those who use MySpace tend to be high school
graduated in working class and those who use Facebook are upper class with higher college education.
She used an example in military to emphasize that hegemonic teens and subaltern teens are divided by
these two social networks as the reflection in high school. Soldiers are on MySpace; officers are on
Facebook. The author illustrated the Facebook users received college training while MySpace users
were poor and less educated. Even those soldiers profiles revealed their violent natural characters.
Therefore, the military ban of MySpace would considered as a class division in military. The author
guessed that MySpace users may spend too much time on line and the officers want them to pay more
attention and responsibilities on their duties. It just an educated guess because nobody know whether
this class division would have any conflict of their respective interest. I think this was one of the
reasons of this military ban. Facebook is extremely popular in the military. How clear was it shown in
Boyd s perspective that MySpace would be an obstacle for Facebook in the military. That is why she
would emphasize extremely popular as she was

Organic Farming Vs Organic Food
Organic farming is the production of food without the use of synthetic chemicals or genetically
modified components (Better Health, 2017). Consumers and health experts have long debated whether
organic foods are more nutritious and safer than conventional food (Harvard Health, 2012). There is
contradicting evidence surrounding the issue, and many choose to eat organic foods as they believe
they have higher nutritional outcomes and less chemical residues than conventional foods. Others
believe that conventional foods are no worse for health than their organic counterparts.
Background
Organic food producers and farmers grow and produce their food without synthetic chemicals like
pesticides and fertilisers and do not use genetically modified (GM) components. Naturally occurring
pesticides such as pyrethrins, light oils, copper and sulphur are permitted in organic farming (Better
Health, 2017). Organic produce available in Australia include fruit and vegetables, dried legumes,
grains, meat and meat products, dairy foods, eggs, honey and some processed foods (Better Health,
2017). The term organic is not currently regulated under Australian law, which means that companies
and businesses are not required to follow specific regulations or a Standard in order to claim organic
on their products (Australian Organic, 2017).
Discussion
There is sufficient evidence that organic foods have higher nutritional outcomes than conventional
foods. According to a 2014 study led by Prof.

My First Year Of Middle School Essay
Walking through the double doors of school and to my very first locker, I took a breath and realized
this was a new stage in my life. A new stage in life meant new people, experiences, and problems
especially problems. I wore questionably clean, wrinkled clothes, ready to start my first year of middle

plenty of friends, and couldn t have been happier. However, with the additional 200 students, and
problems at home flourishing, I never realized until then how alone I actually was. While walking to
my first class I caught several glares from different classmates, some of whom used to be good friends
of mine. Once I got to my seat, I quickly sat down and pulled my worn out hoodie over my face,
shutting the world out. Although the world seemed so cold, things weren t always like this. The years
leading up to this moment were much different. Anyone that met me knew I was always a social
butterfly. Wherever I went, I had a friend to talk to. If I didn t have a friend to talk to, I would make
some. Making friends was as easy as breathing and just came naturally to me. My ability to make
friendships had no boundaries. There were many times in my childhood that we went on vacation to

Summary Of The Three Miracles Of Saint Zenobius
The work of art that I have chosen to write about, is the Three Miracles of Saint Zenobius (1500 10).
This painting is part of a bigger collection that depicts scenes from the life of Saint Zenobius. It s
sister pieces are spread out in different parts of the world, such places as, London, Dresden and New
York itself. The painter of this entire collection is Sandro Botticelli (1445 1510) and he belongs to the
Early part of the Renaissance. It is worth to note, that Botticelli was taught by Filippo Lippi. Fra
Filippo Lippi was a prominent artist of his time and he painted his work with great color and as well
with a narrative quality. Botticelli himself made a name for himself by his artistic style and to his
contribution to painting the frescoes of the Sistine Chapel and even though his most notable work of
art was the Birth of Venus that was created eighteen years prior to the Three Miracles, this piece of
work takes a different approach than his other paintings. The painting itself resembles the Scenes from
the life of Saint John the Baptist (1490/95) and it could be said that Botticelli was inspired by it.
The medium of the painting was Tempera on wood and this was common practice use of painting
during the early part of the Renaissance. The painting itself tells a story. It shows three miracles that
saint Zenobius performed. In the first scene, we are shown Zenobius beside what is believed to be a
funeral procession for a young boy. In the painting itself, it is

The Chuckwallas and Evolutionary Research
Ever since Charles Darwin s first publication of On the Origin of Species in 1859, island habitats have
been used by a number of scientists as the most efficient laboratories to observe the natural process of
evolution taking place in modern day organisms. Several kilometers northeast of the Galapagos
Islands, where Darwin famously performed his research, is a small group of islands in the Sea of
Cortés, also known as the Gulf of California, between the Baja California peninsula and Mexico (see
Figure 1 on page 18). Here many evolutionary biologists of the 20th and 21st century performed
research on the insular organisms inhabiting these island habitats. One group of lizards in particular
known by the common name chuckwallas has gained a lot of focus in evolutionary research.
Chuckwallas is the name of organisms in the Sauromalus genus apart of the Iguanidae family. They
are herbivorous lizards commonly found in the deserts of southwestern United States and Northern
Mexico. Three species, in particular, are found on the islands off the cost of the mainland within the
Sea of Cortés: Sauromalus obesus (= ater), Sauromalus varius, and Sauromalus hispidus (see Figure 2

varius are S. hispidus are endemic to specific islands in the Sea of Cortés: mainly San Esteban Island

Over the years there has been some controversy on defining congestive heart failure due to a vast
variability of the clinical signs and symptoms (Coronel, 2001). The American Heart Association

With the emergence of RISC technology and the breakup of AT T, the UNIX systems category began
to grow significantly during the 1980s. The term open systems was coined. Customers began
demanding better portability and interoperability between the many incompatible UNIX variants.
Over the years, a variety of coalitions (e.g. UNIX International) were formed to try to gain control
over and consolidate the UNIX systems category, but their success was always limited.
Gradually, the industry turned to standards as a way of achieving the portability and interoperability
benefits that customers wanted. However, UNIX standards and standards organisations proliferated
(just as vendor coalitions had), resulting in more confusion and aggravation for UNIX customers.
The UNIX systems category is primarily an application driven systems category, not an operating

criteria, such as price/performance, service, and support. Customers generally don t choose UNIX

  • 2. Summary Of Babe Ruth With the way the author, Bryson describes George Ruth s upbringing and the tough hand that Babe was dealt with at such an early age, it seems as if he painted a fairy tale with happily ever after at the end. To read and to try and grasp what Babe Ruth was able to achieve, it is the most unbelievable underdog story that I have ever read. While I was reading, I had the feeling that Bill Bryson believed that George Ruth was a good person and even coming from such a rough city such as Baltimore. He even disagreed with what babe said in his autobiography. In the book, Bryson says The opening sentence of Ruth s autobiography is, I was a bad kid. Which is no more than partly true (Bryson 107). By just the second sentence in the second paragraph, it is clear that Bryson thought, even since Ruth s childhood, he is a good kid who was stuck behind the 8 ball. Coming from an impoverished family, having almost all of his siblings die, losing both his father and mother who were distracted anyway. His mother slowly dying of tuberculosis and his father single handedly running their saloon during all of his waking hours just so they could have money to survive (Bryson 107). While reading this initial background on Babe Ruth, I didn t know just how rough he had it. I assumed like most of the athletes in today s world, his family was able to pay for him to have baseball lessons and training with some of the best trainers that money can buy. Knowing that Babe Ruth was the epitome of an ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Pros And Cons Of The Aztec Empire The 1300 s was not a time of peace for the mesoamerican region. Just Prior to the the time period of the 1300 s, the Toltecs lost their empire to a vast war along with the Tula and Chichén Itzá. The aftermath of this war left the area unruled for a couple of centuries. The aztecs finally settled down in the area we know today as mexico city, around the time of 1325 1345. This settlement known as the aztec empire ended up being the most powerful of the indian empires of central america; instilling fear in all the regions around them and withholding the reputation of being a ferocious cult waging war against anyone. As the aztecs people settled in, more expressions of art were being seen in jewelry, clothes, structures, statues, ceremonial knives, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The Act states A person is guilty of theft if he dishonestly appropriates property belonging to another with the intention of permanently depriving the other of it... In order for the offence of theft to be applied, Justin and Robbie must satisfy all five elements of the actus reus and mens rea at the same time for the prosecution to prove liability. The actus reus of the offence of theft is outlined in s.1(1) of the TA 1968 as; appropriation of property belonging to another . Appropriation is defined in s.3 (1) of the TA 1968 as Any assumption by a person of the rights of an owner amounts to an appropriation. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Robbie stabbed Tommy after the alteration in the bank where Tommy punched Robbie in the face. For Robbie to complete the actus reus of murder, the stabbing needs to be the reason for Tommy s death. Nevertheless, Robbie stabbing Tommy does not need to be the sole or even the main cause of Tommy s death. Robbie s stabbing needs only to make a substantial contribution to the killing as decided in R v Cheshire. In order for Robbie to satisfy the elements of the actus reus, he must also satisfy causation. R v White, sets out the but for test which asks; but for the actions of the defendant, would the result have occurred? Robbie stabbing Tommy twice is the only reason for Tommy s death. R v Cato also held that the defendants conduct must be more than a minimal cause of the consequences, but it is not required for it to be the substantial cause. Therefore, there is no intervening act, and the chain of causation is not broke. Tommy s injuries from the stabbing were the reason for his death and he would not have died had Robbie not stabbed ... At 17, Blumenschein won a grant to learn at the Cincinnati College of Music. In any case, while considering music he likewise selected in classes at the Art Academy. He was soon persuaded that his future profession was to be that of a craftsman, and subsequently moved to New York City to study painting at the Art Students League. On the other hand, he remained a hugely capable artist, supporting himself by playing first violin in the New York Symphony. The conductor at the time was none other than the world well known Czech author, Anton Dvorak. Dvorak was clearly so awed with the youth that he selected him first violin promptly in the wake of listening to him play a D minor scale. Few individuals would have surrendered a music profession that was set for such a promising begin (most definitely), yet Blumenschein had settled on his choice. Southwest s competitive advantage in providing low cost is of the primary reasons which their competitors couldn t match. The airline has the lowest costs on a per mile basis among all the major airlines as they used single aircraft type and the highly efficient, high frequency ad point to point route scheme. Due to this commoditization of the industry, passenger profiles have changed with business and first class seat demand in great decline. This correlates perfectly with Southwest s position of no assigned seats or class designations. Competing companies have been forced to introduce low fare options in attempts to regain lost market share from low priced air carriers. Because Southwest s strategy has always been low cost, and standardized travel, they have not had to change strategy. This has saved them what could amount to millions on restructuring costs. • 7. Henry Iv And Henry V By William Shakespeare In Henry IV and Henry V by Shakespeare, a father and son have diametrically different reigns as king. While both kings are politically savvy and gain the favor of the people, only one, Henry V, has the divine right of kings. The divine right of kings is the belief that power is instilled in them by God and rebellion against them is considered a sin. The influence of divine intervention is shown through the punishment and guilt of Henry IV and the success of Henry V. The rule of Henry IV illustrates the fate of one who seizes a crown that is not rightfully his by divine ordinance: a reign troubled with treason and uprisings. He does not have the right to rule because he has not obtained the crown through the law of primogeniture and therefore lacks the divine power imparted on those who gain the throne legitimately. Henry IV seems to have all of the right characteristics to be a successful king; however, he comes to the throne as an illegitimate ruler with the responsibility of the death of God s chosen king, Richard II, on his shoulders. These actions cause Henry IV to incur the wrath of God against him and to have a reign plagued with conflict; his ambitiousness and political intelligence cannot fight back against the divine punishment inflicted upon him. His divine punishment dictates that he will have no peace in his rule. The instability of England when Henry IV becomes king is foreshadowed by Carlisle: In this seat of peace tumultuous wars / Shall kin with kin and ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

His father was a Prussian Military officer and his mother was the daughter of a politician. Bismarck went on to have many political positions in his life. The two most important are, his time as Minister President of Prussia and as Chancellor of the German Empire. Throughout his political career Bismarck proved to be a man who would change ideals if he thought it would yield the best results. In 1862 Bismarck was appointed as the Minister President of Prussia. Bismarck s views were that of Realpolitik. Realpolitik is a way of viewing things in a practical manner not in a moral or ideological way. (162) This was evident throughout his career. During his time Minister President, he mostly focused on foreign policy. Although domestically he wanted to stop the liberals who were in the Prussian parliament. liberals thought that the government s actions at the time were unconstitutional. Bismarck, on the other hand, believed that there was no way that the constitution was meant to undermine the state. (163) Shortly after this he moved his focus to his foreign policy, the unification of the German states. This all started with his blood and iron speech in 1862 where he is quoted saying, Not by speeches and votes of the majority, are the great questions of the time decided that was the error of 1848 and 1849 but by iron and blood. . The University of Tampa and The Renaissance architecture: How an obsolete hotel and sense of individualism shaped the campus s future design Without any doubt the architecture of University of Tampa buildings is among the most spectacular designs within Tampa Bay. If you walk through the campus it is almost impossible not to notice the round arches, the pointed domes, and the Herringbone brickwork. The architecture methods are immensely similar to the classical revival period of Renaissance art. But what made the UT campus look what it does today? Why is there always an inevitable sense of renaissance architecture present? To answer these questions, first we need to obtain a good knowledge of the university s background. University of Tampa as we know it today was much smaller back in 1931 when it was first established as Tampa Junior College. During the summer of 1933 the college was moved to its present location, then the inoperative Tampa Bay Hotel. • 10. Annotated Bibliography On Database Management Systems The ability to store information has always been important for our survival. In the beginning, information used to be shared by word of mouth. Then, with the invention of writing, data slowly started to be stored in books kept in libraries, sorted in specific order that made them easily accessible. Finally, the invention of the computers led to the evolution of databases. Databases are important, because thanks to them humans are able to store and later on retrieve information. The way in which databases arise is very simple. It all begins as a list in a word processing system. As the size of the list increases, the data starts to appear inconsistent. If this occurs, Database Management Systems come to help, due to the fact they can store a large amount of information in a number of tables linked to each other. Programs such as Access are able to add new data to a database or make changes to already existing data from the database; they are even able to delete information. These features assist people in analyzing and categorizing information in the following way: Tables lie in the core of any given database. Thanks to them, the possibility of redundancy is greatly reduced. A database can consist of a number of different tables which enables the researcher to break information down into smaller (and easier to analyse) pieces. Just like spread sheets, they consist of rows (also called records) and columns (fields). By using records, researchers are able to combine ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Before we continued on to the next part of our bible study I wanted to make sure we were on the same page since I knew a few of you had questions about the trinity last week. Let me start with thanking all of you for being so gracious with me. Before I answered your questions I wanted to make sure I had done the adequate amount of research. The topic of the trinity is often taught wrong and is equally confusing at times. The four major questions that I wanted to tackle are: (1) Is there only one God, (2) Are all three figures of the trinity divine, (3) Is the father not the son, who is not the spirit, (4) How ... Are all three figures of the trinity divine? First I wanted to identify the three figures in the trinity. Jesus Christ, The Father, and the Holy Spirit are the divine trinity. • 12. Vitamin C And Its Effect On Human Body Chapter 1 1. Introduction 1.1. Vitamin B Vitamins are a class of naturally occurring chemical compounds needed in fixed amounts for important body functions. They play important role in energy generations, red blood cells and neurochemical production. They are micro nutrients which are involved in the biological wear and tear of the body and an important part of a balance diet. Since the human body cannot produce vitamins which are required in normal concentration; they can be gained either from food sources or from dietary supplements. There are total of 13 kinds of vitamins needed by the human body comprising of vitamin A, vitamin C, vitamin D, vitamin K and eight included in the group vitamin B (B1, B2, B3, B5, B6, B7, B9 and B12). Vitamin B group or complex contains all the water soluble vitamins that play an important role in metabolism. Due to the watery composition of our body, these vitamins have the ability to move inside our body and can be removed through urine without any difficulty. Thus, such vitamins are not stored by our bodies and need replenishing on a daily basis. Fruits and vegetables are rich sources of vitamin B complex for the body. Processed foods lose their vitamin B content thus through the process of enrichment as specified by food laws and regulations, the vitamin B is added into the food. Jacobs was a mother of two with determination and insight to make choices to change the way of life for her children. Harriet Jacobs was the first African American women to have her slave narrative published retelling her life story exposing the years she spent escaping slavery and the latter helping others escape (Andrews 2). The African American race experienced much intolerance, especially the women, but Harriet fought back and never gave up. Harriet, born in the fall of 1813 in North Carolina, spent all of her early life in slave hood. She did not fully realize that she was a slave until she was six and her first owner, Margret Horniblow, passed away and she was given to her niece Mary Matilda Norcom (Jacobs 11). This was when her true struggle began because Mary was not old enough to own Harriet so Mary s father Dr. James Norcom became Harriet s de facto master. Dr. Norcom sexually abused Harriet and this information remained secret until much later in Harriet s life (Andrews 1). • 14. The Effects Of Being Vegetarian On Our Brain Essay Introduction In this paper I will discuss the effects of being vegetarian on our brain depending on the amount of vitamins and minerals we consume through this diet, and how it affects the way our brain functions. Being a vegetarian is a very powerful decision, because it takes into account your moral standards and beliefs. Putting your morals into your nutrition is very empowering, but it can affect our bodies in many different ways whether that being positive or negative. The negative side of the spectrum is that meat and animal products contain so many different vitamins and minerals that when we take this away it can cause deficiencies in the diet that can affect our bodies in very vast ways including our brain function. The Negative Side of the Spectrum Vitamins and minerals are key to the proper function and development of our brain. Two of the most important nutrients contributing to our brains include vitamin B12 and the omega 3 fatty acid. Vitamin B12 is a key factor in the development of the brain, while omega 3 fatty acids contribute to better pregnancy outcome and reduced risk for brain disorders. Both of these nutrients are low in the vegetarian diet, which means deficiencies are very common among them. This also means vegetarians are at a higher risk for brain disorders or impairment. Our nutrient intake also directly correlates with our offspring. In a study it states that the offspring from the vitamin B12 deficient group showed impaired cognition as they ... Mount Agung is exceptionally steep and almost completely barren on top. From afar it appears unassumingly innocent and perfectly dome shaped, with the exception of a 1706 by 1230 foot open volcanic crater. Highly regarded by its villagers, Mount Agung controls the surrounding areas by influencing the climate through water absorption from incoming western clouds. This keeps the western area of Bali luxurious and green while the eastern area remains dry and infertile. Mount Agung is located on the eastern side of the island sloping north east towards the Bali Sea. To the southwest there is a row of small extinct volcanic cones, and towards the northwest the volcano is separated by a narrow valley from Mount Batur. It is believed, by the Balinese, to be a replica of Mount Meru a holy mountain in Hindu as well as Buddhist cosmology. Myth has it that Mount Agung is a part of Meru that was carried by the earliest Hindus to Bali. On the slopes of the mountain also lies Bali s stunning Besakih Temple. Although this sounds like it could be a scenic getaway on a beautiful island, much like Hawaii, the Bali islanders will never forget the mass destruction caused by Mount Agung s last recorded volcanic eruption in 1963 64. As the fishing industry and human population grow, more and more resources are being taken out of the ocean every year. If this process continues without any type of new regulation, our oceans supply of resources will quickly start depleting. Without a sustainable output from our oceans, millions of people will be losing income that they thought they could rely on forever. While most people are not aware of this problem, over the past fifty years overfishing has developed into a huge environmental issue that could have catastrophic global effects on us in the future if left untreated. • 27. Feminist Liberation Movement I wonder why it took such an extended time for women to come up with a feminist spiritual movement in the Church, since it seems like they have been oppressed for so long? Feminist spirituality is a relatively new field that has grown out of the struggle of women for equality in both society and Church (CTM p. 184). Feminist spirituality is an expression of a current theology that has originated in Latin America that emphasizes the theme of liberation from oppression (CTM p. 255). Additionally, I wonder if the Second Vatican Council had something to do with the upbringing of this movement? I also wonder if the Civil Rights Movement during the 1960s, provided women with the fearlessness to march for their rights in society and the Church? Feminist ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Therefore, these events had a great influence in shaping the Catholic feminist movement, and ultimately turning it into a form of spirituality. According to the Mary Joanne Henold, from the University of North Carolina Press, The Second Vatican Council (1962 65), an inspiring but overtly sexist event that enraged and exhilarated Catholic women in equal measure, as a catalyst of the movement within the church. (https://www.uncpress.org/book/9780807873533/catholic and feminist/) In other words, it is evidently comprehensible that the Second Vatican Council pushed women to the side, consequently establishing a movement. In addition, I think that women have the right to object their rights within the Church, with the feminist movement, owing to the fact that they have been defined in terms of their sexual, reproductive functions, values or personal possibilities which are determined by biology (CTM p. 185). Ultimately, this makes women feel oppressed and alienated from themselves, which I believe is ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 28. Western Symbolism In John Wayne s The Searchers Iconography is the standard visual elements used repeatedly in films that have a specific meaning. Outside of the genre or independently these symbols hold little significance. The Western genre is an obvious. The surface appearance of the film signals the film s genre. For the Western these include can horses, pistols, holsters, wide brimmed hats, spurs, saloons, sheriffs, and stagecoaches. This iconography situates the film for the audience. The western landscape is likely the most important and recognizable symbol of the genre. Rather than shooting within a studio set and soundstage, most of the action is shot on location in New Mexico. As a notorious criminal and murderer, if he makes it to Yuma he will be sentenced to death, intensifying the consequences. The film follows the Classical Hollywood convention of using deadlines and appointments to drive the film s narrative and plot. The goal of Dan Evans is to get him on the train or die trying. The contracts states that Evans only needs to get Wade onto the train to receive his reward. The film creates the sense of an epic journey from the Evans ranch to Contention, centred on the building of the transcontinental railroad. The film s ending is an ambiguous one. Wade surrenders himself and his weapons when boarding the train to Yuma. As the train takes off around the bend, Wade whistles, summoning his trusted horse that gallops alongside the train. It is suggested that Wade will escape as he has escaped from Yuma prison twice before. 3:10 to Yuma follows the narrative strategy of an ambiguous ending typical of the genre. The hero either departs or is killed at the end of the film. He does not, however, conform or assimilate to the dominate values of the community. The hero holds to his individuality strongly to the bitter end. As Wade departs and Evans dies, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 29. Personal Narratives Have Deep Origins In Ancient History. Personal narratives have deep origins in ancient history. Narratives and personal essays were used by ancient writers and philosophers like Cicero, Seneca, and Plutarch to reflect on their individual experiences. The actual idea of the personal essay was named and perfected by late 16th century writer Michel de Montaigne, who attempted, or essayed, to describe his experiences in the context of the world around him. He claimed that the subject of my work is me. In other words, the purpose of the personal essay or narrative is to incorporate self experiences in informal reflections about the world. In the modern age, the focus of art, literature, and philosophy shifted towards the individual and the importance of self, the emotions, and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In the account, Dillard recalls a memory from her youth of the events of one winter day. Young Dillard and her friends were throwing snowballs at passing cars. One car owner actually got out of his car and chased Dillard and her friends through their neighborhood, before finally catching and then letting them go. Dillard uses a personal experience from her youth to impart the lesson that one must fling themselves at something in order to get it. While Annie Dillard s The Chase recalls a childhood memory, George Orwell s Shooting an Elephant refers to Orwell s experience from his adult life. At the time of the narrative, Orwell was a sub divisional police officer in Burma. He is faced with the choice of shooting an elephant that had gone rogue to gain the respect of the natives or letting the elephant be and returning it to its holder. Orwell chooses to shoot the elephant in order to appease the natives. In his narrative, Orwell explores the idea of power through his own experience as an adult. In personal narratives, authors typically use description to make the story more relatable and engaging to the audience. This is done, in part, by sensory details. Sensory details enable the author to recreate their personal experience for the reader. In addition, the descriptions help the reader better relate to the author. • 30. Myspace And Myspace By Danah Boyd Analysis Before I read Danah Boyd s essay, I was confused with the title Viewing American class divisions through Facebook and MySpace. I was thinking how American class (in school) divided by these social networks, but now I understand that she was talking about social class. Her content was abundant that she used such advanced terminologies to describe those users of MySpace and Facebook. The most wonderful part of this essay was she used neutural (but a little bit partial) point of view to convey her thought based on some judgements. Boyd wrote I don t have the language to get at what I want to say, but I decided it needed to be said anyhow. She described how good kids are flocking in Facebook and bad kids are flocking in MySpace. Many of them left MySpace for Facebook in high school. Those who use MySpace tend to be high school graduated in working class and those who use Facebook are upper class with higher college education. She used an example in military to emphasize that hegemonic teens and subaltern teens are divided by these two social networks as the reflection in high school. Soldiers are on MySpace; officers are on Facebook. The author illustrated the Facebook users received college training while MySpace users were poor and less educated. Even those soldiers profiles revealed their violent natural characters. Therefore, the military ban of MySpace would considered as a class division in military. The author guessed that MySpace users may spend too much time on line and the officers want them to pay more attention and responsibilities on their duties. It just an educated guess because nobody know whether this class division would have any conflict of their respective interest. I think this was one of the reasons of this military ban. Facebook is extremely popular in the military. How clear was it shown in Boyd s perspective that MySpace would be an obstacle for Facebook in the military. • 31. Organic Farming Vs Organic Food Organic farming is the production of food without the use of synthetic chemicals or genetically modified components (Better Health, 2017). Consumers and health experts have long debated whether organic foods are more nutritious and safer than conventional food (Harvard Health, 2012). There is contradicting evidence surrounding the issue, and many choose to eat organic foods as they believe they have higher nutritional outcomes and less chemical residues than conventional foods. Others believe that conventional foods are no worse for health than their organic counterparts. Background Organic food producers and farmers grow and produce their food without synthetic chemicals like pesticides and fertilisers and do not use genetically modified (GM) components. Naturally occurring pesticides such as pyrethrins, light oils, copper and sulphur are permitted in organic farming (Better Health, 2017). Organic produce available in Australia include fruit and vegetables, dried legumes, grains, meat and meat products, dairy foods, eggs, honey and some processed foods (Better Health, 2017). The term organic is not currently regulated under Australian law, which means that companies and businesses are not required to follow specific regulations or a Standard in order to claim organic on their products (Australian Organic, 2017). Discussion There is sufficient evidence that organic foods have higher nutritional outcomes than conventional foods. According to a 2014 study led by Prof. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

A new stage in life meant new people, experiences, and problems especially problems. I wore questionably clean, wrinkled clothes, ready to start my first year of middle school. The amount of kids in my class multiplied tenfold with over 250 students. The year prior, I had plenty of friends, and couldn t have been happier. However, with the additional 200 students, and problems at home flourishing, I never realized until then how alone I actually was. While walking to my first class I caught several glares from different classmates, some of whom used to be good friends of mine. Once I got to my seat, I quickly sat down and pulled my worn out hoodie over my face, shutting the world out. Although the world seemed so cold, things weren t always like this. The years leading up to this moment were much different. Anyone that met me knew I was always a social butterfly. Wherever I went, I had a friend to talk to. If I didn t have a friend to talk to, I would make some. Making friends was as easy as breathing and just came naturally to me. My ability to make friendships had no boundaries. • 35. Summary Of The Three Miracles Of Saint Zenobius The work of art that I have chosen to write about, is the Three Miracles of Saint Zenobius (1500 10). This painting is part of a bigger collection that depicts scenes from the life of Saint Zenobius. It s sister pieces are spread out in different parts of the world, such places as, London, Dresden and New York itself. The painter of this entire collection is Sandro Botticelli (1445 1510) and he belongs to the Early part of the Renaissance. It is worth to note, that Botticelli was taught by Filippo Lippi. Fra Filippo Lippi was a prominent artist of his time and he painted his work with great color and as well with a narrative quality. Botticelli himself made a name for himself by his artistic style and to his contribution to painting the frescoes of the Sistine Chapel and even though his most notable work of art was the Birth of Venus that was created eighteen years prior to the Three Miracles, this piece of work takes a different approach than his other paintings. The painting itself resembles the Scenes from the life of Saint John the Baptist (1490/95) and it could be said that Botticelli was inspired by it. The medium of the painting was Tempera on wood and this was common practice use of painting during the early part of the Renaissance. The painting itself tells a story. It shows three miracles that saint Zenobius performed. In the first scene, we are shown Zenobius beside what is believed to be a funeral procession for a young boy. In the painting itself, it is ... • 37. The Chuckwallas and Evolutionary Research Ever since Charles Darwin s first publication of On the Origin of Species in 1859, island habitats have been used by a number of scientists as the most efficient laboratories to observe the natural process of evolution taking place in modern day organisms. Several kilometers northeast of the Galapagos Islands, where Darwin famously performed his research, is a small group of islands in the Sea of Cortés, also known as the Gulf of California, between the Baja California peninsula and Mexico (see Figure 1 on page 18). Here many evolutionary biologists of the 20th and 21st century performed research on the insular organisms inhabiting these island habitats. One group of lizards in particular known by the common name chuckwallas has gained a lot of focus in evolutionary research. Chuckwallas is the name of organisms in the Sauromalus genus apart of the Iguanidae family. They are herbivorous lizards commonly found in the deserts of southwestern United States and Northern Mexico. Three species, in particular, are found on the islands off the cost of the mainland within the Sea of Cortés: Sauromalus obesus (= ater), Sauromalus varius, and Sauromalus hispidus (see Figure 2 on page 20). S. obesus is a common species found on the mainland as well as few islands, while S. varius are S. hispidus are endemic to specific islands in the Sea of Cortés: mainly San Esteban Island and Angel de la Guarda Island, respectively. It was envisaged as a computer utility, a machine that would support hundreds of simultaneous timesharing users. They envisaged one huge machine providing computing power for everyone in Boston. Customers began demanding better portability and interoperability between the many incompatible UNIX variants. Over the years, a variety of coalitions (e.g. UNIX International) were formed to try to gain control over and consolidate the UNIX systems category, but their success was always limited.
