About 
David Fincher was born in 1962 in Denver. He is 
not just well known for his great film directing 
but also directing commercials such as Coca 
Cola, Nike…. Fincher has even directed music 
videos for artists; Madonna, Rolling Stones, and 
Michael Jackson. 
As a film director, he has achieved huge 
success with Se7en (1995), Fight Club (1999) 
and, Panic Room (2002). Brad Pit is great friends 
with Fincher and is in most of his films.
Camera and lighting 
Fincher uses a range of shots in his film such as 
wide shots, low angles , point of view shots, 
these shots are used to show us the surrounding 
area or in Seven, the crime scene. Another 
camera angle that he uses often is the 
stationary shot, unfocused background with 
character walking into focus. 
All of his film consist of dark lighting as this 
represents the genre and the emotions within 
the film. His films often have low-key lighting with 
green or blue tinted color temperature.
Techniques? 
Fincher often displays end credits as slide 
shows (Fight Club, Zodiac, The Curious Case 
of Benjamin Button) or scrolling downward 
(Se7en) rather than the traditional upward 
scroll. This then gave us an idea for our 
credits in our film.
Technique and conventions 
Frequently starts his movies with creative title 
sequences that express the theme of the movie 
and are often about trying to find a serial killer. 
He film are all typical thriller and have all the 
basic codes and conventions. His films are often 
very dark and always has characters in the 
shadows where you can only see the silhouettes 
to show mystery within the film to keep the 
audience on edge, you often do not know who 
the antagonist is until the very end. Most of his 
film often end in a suicide. Some of his film are 
even based on true stories.
