all this Big Data .

 Name of the Article : What do we do with all
this Big Data
 Author : Susan Etlinger
 Source : TED (ideas worth
spreading)
 Two most important insight from the
ted talk .
 Why / How these insight are useful to a
manager in India.
 Conclusion
Facts (Data) are
stupid things &
are vulnerable to
misuse wilful or
otherwise .
Data Doesn’t
create meaning,
we do i.e, out of
data we can make
any meaning from
it .
 We cannot always rely on data , rather we must
ask why a piece of data provides us with certain
information. What fact is the data trying to
make? Are there any other possibilities or
outcomes the data could lead to? The answer to
these questions can lead to innovation .
 We so as a Business people, consumers,
citizens, etc, we have responsibilities
focusing more on critical thinking
skills.
Because many time over , we can process
exabyte of data at lightning speed, & thus
we have potential to make bad decisions
far more quickly, efficiently & with larger
impact than past .
Wrong / poor meaning of data can lead to
serious consequences to a company
Manager should be responsible to check
how the data are analysed, and whether
there’s scope of innovation. Innovation
allows us to change our frame of
reference i.e, from “what is” to “what
could be” .
Spending a little bit more time on things like
humanities, sociology, philosphy, ethics
because they give us context that is so
important for big data and also they develop
our critical thinking .
Quetioning things like demographic, as
they mostly are based on assumption who
all we are based on gender, age , area, as
opposed to data on what we actually do .
Finally, every company needs innovation to
sustain in the fast growing world . So a
manager of a company needs to develop critical
thinkings .
 In this presentation , we discussed about important
insight from “ what do we do with all these big
data “ by Susan Etlinger , finally data are not
always correct, but we can make useful deduction
to search other possibilities in order to innovate by
changing our frame of reference .
