People analytics
People analytics uses large data sets and statistics to help managers make decisions about employees. However, it has limitations because it cannot account for all factors that influence human behavior and performance. A good manager understands an employee's unique circumstances and needs in order to motivate them. Performance evaluations should consider more than just targets and also include other qualities like cooperation, knowledge, and attendance.

Transforming Organizations to Better Leverage Analytics

People Analytics
Big data and analytics are increasingly being used to evaluate employee performance and predict success. However, these analyses often fail to account for important contextual factors that influence performance. Metrics like an employee's skills and deliverables do not capture the impact of leadership style, workplace environment, and project characteristics on outcomes. Truly understanding performance requires analyzing these surrounding conditions, as well as learning from others who have directly worked with the individual. While data can provide insights, algorithms have limitations and cannot replace human judgment when evaluating people and their potential for success in a role.
The Future of Work is Here: Are You Prepared?
The document discusses how technology is changing the nature of work and the future workforce. Automation and AI will significantly impact jobs over the coming decades, with some jobs being replaced while new jobs are created. To stay relevant, professionals need to continually learn new skills. Analytics of our Work
IBM Research Distinguished Speaker Series 2014. (Some notes included.) How can we improve work with the power of analytics? IBM’s Analytics website describes the success AAA of Northern California, Nevada, and Utah had in their compensation area (“what if” modeling was used to assess different sales compensation strategies against past data.) Tacit, acquired in 2008 by Oracle, used email and other work products to identify expertise where the experts were not always even aware of their own value, and to link people unaware of the value their being connected could provide. These are relatively rare examples of the power of analytics being turned inward on work. Using frameworks from substitutes for leadership (e.g., feedback from the work itself, technology support -- Kerr & Jermier, 1978; Jermier & Kerr, 1997) and organizational behavior more generally, I will offer a framework suggesting where analytics has the opportunity to complement our ability to lead by letting go -- to let go of work practices that made sense before we had the opportunity to work with the power of vast, varied, and dynamic data.

Big Data has captured a lot of interest in industry, with the emphasis on the challenges of the four Vs of Big Data: Volume, Variety, Velocity, and Veracity, and their applications to drive value for businesses. Recently, there is rapid growth in situations where a big data challenge relates to making individually relevant decisions. A key example is human health, fitness, and well-being. Consider for instance, understanding the reasons for and avoiding an asthma attack based on Big Data in the form of personal health signals (e.g., physiological data measured by devices/sensors or Internet of Things around humans, on the humans, and inside/within the humans), public health signals (information coming from the healthcare system such as hospital admissions), and population health signals (such as Tweets by people related to asthma occurrences and allergens, Web services providing pollen and smog information, etc.). However, no individual has the ability to process all these data without the help of appropriate technology, and each human has different set of relevant data!
In this talk, I will forward the concept of Smart Data that is realized by extracting value from Big Data, to benefit not just large companies but each individual. If I am an asthma patient, for all the data relevant to me with the four V-challenges, what I care about is simply, “How is my current health, and what is the risk of having an asthma attack in my personal situation, especially if that risk has changed?” As I will show, Smart Data that gives such personalized and actionable information will need to utilize metadata, use domain specific knowledge, employ semantics and intelligent processing, and go beyond traditional reliance on ML and NLP.
For harnessing volume, I will discuss the concept of Semantic Perception, that is, how to convert massive amounts of data into information, meaning, and insight useful for human decision-making. For dealing with Variety, I will discuss experience in using agreement represented in the form of ontologies, domain models, or vocabularies, to support semantic interoperability and integration. For Velocity, I will discuss somewhat more recent work on Continuous Semantics, which seeks to use dynamically created models of new objects, concepts, and relationships, using them to better understand new cues in the data that capture rapidly evolving events and situations.
Smart Data applications in development at Kno.e.sis come from the domains of personalized health, energy, disaster response, and smart city. I will present examples from a couple of these.

Beyond addressability and increasing ad relevance, how can businesses utilize these advances in product development and other market initiatives? Can we make the leap from inductive logic to human-paralleled intuition? Can this make up for our human brain mechanics that make predicting our own happiness so difficult?
In this talk we’ll cover the evolutions in data access, models for information processing, and the science of collaboration to see not only how they have been leveraged in businesses but also how they are used to better understand human behavior, and hopefully in the near future, a little bit of happiness.

The Ready-Made Garments (RMG) industry in Bangladesh is a cornerstone of the economy, but increasing costs and stagnant productivity pose significant challenges to profitability. This study explores the implementation of Lean Management in the Sampling Section of RMG factories to enhance productivity. Drawing from a comprehensive literature review, theoretical framework, and action research methodology, the study identifies key areas for improvement and proposes solutions.
Through the DMAIC approach (Define, Measure, Analyze, Improve, Control), the research identifies low productivity as the primary problem in the Sampling Section, with a PPH (Productivity per head) of only 4.0. Using Lean Management techniques such as 5S, Standardized work, PDCA/Kaizen, KANBAN, and Quick Changeover, the study addresses issues such as pre and post Quick Changeover (QCO) time, improper line balancing, and sudden plan changes.
The research employs regression analysis to test hypotheses, revealing a significant correlation between reducing QCO time and increasing productivity. With a regression equation of Y = -0.000501X + 6.72 and an R-squared value of 0.98, the study demonstrates a strong relationship between the independent variables (QCO downtime and improper line balancing downtime) and the dependent variable (productivity per head).
The findings suggest that by implementing Lean Management practices and addressing key productivity inhibitors, RMG factories can achieve substantial improvements in efficiency and profitability. The study provides valuable insights for practitioners, policymakers, and researchers seeking to enhance productivity in the RMG industry and similar manufacturing sectors.
