IT and human capital: Yin and Yang in your digital workplaceXylos
This document discusses the importance of managing the human aspect of digital transformations. While 9/10 organizations are undergoing digital transformations, only 27% achieve their desired business value. The biggest challenge is overcoming cultural resistance to change. Effective change management is the number one contributor to successful transformations. It involves anticipating human reactions to change and guiding individuals through communication, learning, and sponsorship. Managers must be transformed into change leaders who create awareness, address objections, and help with transitions. With proper change management focusing on the people side, transformations can successfully deliver business value.

This document discusses the challenges of digital transformation and proposes solutions. It identifies four main challenges companies face: 1) identifying true business value, 2) prioritizing people and culture, 3) limitations of current software and platforms, and 4) using traditional implementation practices. The document argues that to succeed, companies must face these brutal facts head on and focus on clear business goals and values, prioritize people and culture over tools, use software as an enabler not a constraint, and embrace agile implementation practices. The overall message is that digital transformation requires discipline, focus on the future, and addressing key challenges around business value, culture, technology, and implementation approaches.

This document discusses agile practices for big data projects. It notes that learning organizations are more likely to succeed with big data projects if they have an appetite for experimentation, learn from mistakes, and can pivot decisions based on new information. A data-driven culture is important, where most decisions are made based on data and feedback is incorporated quickly. Iterative approaches help refine problems and questions, not just solutions. Science itself is an agile process where understanding evolves incrementally through refinements. Community groups in Riyadh are mentioned for sharing knowledge about agile methods and big data.

Transforming Organizations to Better Leverage Analytics Atif Shaikh
The document discusses how organizations can transform their culture to effectively leverage big data and analytics. It argues that culture is the most important factor for success, not just strategy. It presents a framework called the "HDFS for Organizations" that segments culture into key factors like trust, habits, drive, feelings and skills. The framework provides approaches to embed analytics in the natural "flow of work" and continuously discover intrinsic motivators. It outlines a six stage process for building a culture of performance driven by analytics from monitoring exceptions to achieving pervasive analytics use. The conclusion emphasizes that addressing culture is challenging but critical for analytics to deliver value and organizations must establish frameworks to nurture an analytics driven culture.
With project success rates not shifting significantly over the last 15 years there has to be a better way. People-centric project management is a simpler, more natural, more human, and ultimately more successful way to understand projects.

Data Collection for Research Based Organizations to Aid Research!NTEN
The document discusses the Population Council's use of electronic data capture to conduct research surveys. Some key points:
- The Council partnered with their IT group to develop an audio computer-assisted self-interview (ACASI) system to anonymously collect sensitive data from research participants.
- Using electronic surveys rather than in-person interviews was found to reduce bias and get more honest answers to sensitive questions.
- However, they did not capture some useful data like the total number of surveys completed and indicators over time.
- Moving forward, the IT group recommends exploring unconventional tools like SMS and capturing survey metadata to help with monitoring, evaluation and future projects.
You’ve seen the future for your organisation and it's unquestionably digital. But then the questions start: Who goes on the journey? How do you lead them along? What direction? How fast? What’s the path? Is the journey the same for everyone throughout the business?
Embarking on a Digital Transformation (DT) strategy can seem daunting enough. But when you apply that strategy to large teams, the numerous complexities and variables can make the whole project appear just too exhausting a proposition to even bother taking the first step, let alone all those steps that must inevitably follow if it is to succeed.
So how do you bring your team on the journey?
Product Managers: Thinking is good but feeling is betterSandra Davey
You can learn product management, you can learn the full-stack environment your dev works in, and you can learn how to prototype; these are all professional skills we learn in our jobs. But the rest, the big stuff, the important stuff, you gotta feel it.
In product management, we make a truckload of logical, rational decisions and choices. using logic, reason and method we immerse ourselves in the data so can make "data driven decisions". And they're good decisions right, cause it's data. And to get there, we revere rationality, logic, structure, but often to the exclusion of emotion, feeling, gut, instinct and knowledge.
So I wanna talk about this 'soft' stuff. Of giving voice, of feeling and expressing vulnerability, of the power of listening, of using empathy and emotion ... the stuff of creativity to help make choices and decisions. And you learn this by feeling it, experiencing and doing it, by being it. Not by reading about it.

It also notes that many future jobs will require new skills, so retraining will be important. Women who perform technology-related tasks receive higher pay increases. However, there is a lack of female role models in technology fields. When women are left out of decision making processes, products can fail to consider women's needs. Embracing data and digital skills will help women adapt to changing skills needs and have more career opportunities.

Digital Team Structure: The Foundation for InnovationNTEN
The document summarizes research on digital teams at non-profit organizations. It finds that most digital teams are small (1-2 people), located in communications departments, and rely heavily on contractors. Top roles include social media, strategy, and content production. Teams manage many online properties and social media channels but lack necessary staffing and skills. While social media efforts are considered effective, digital programs overall are only somewhat effective and underfunded. However, most organizations plan to increase digital spending next year, indicating recognition of the importance of digital.

The document discusses how technological advancement is outpacing people's ability to process it and how this creates a new transparent world. It notes that interviews and recruiting are changing as everything we do leaves a digital trace, and people now have a choice between allowing their information to be public or remaining private. The challenges of this new transparency are also addressed.
This document discusses how people analytics and big data can transform human resources and the future of work. It notes that more data has been generated in the last few years than in all of human history, and that data is now being used by companies to make people decisions. The document outlines several key points about people analytics, including how data can help reduce attrition, develop leaders, and improve business performance. It also provides an example of how Google used people analytics research to determine the most important skills for managers to have engaged employees.
This document provides advice on how to create change by empowering people with ideas, knowledge, and access to information. It suggests designing solutions that flow with how people work rather than imposing a one-size-fits-all approach, and encourages experimenting and adjusting over making predictions. The key is to listen to and connect with people in order to build trust and help change spread through their championing of good examples and sharing of viral messages.

Presentation from Mentor Session with Q&A discussing Deborah Weinswig's move from Wall Street to Silicon Valley/Silicon Alley and advice for startups on how to work with Wall Street.
This document discusses the importance of quality assurance in organizational decision making. It defines quality as meeting or exceeding standards as measured against similar programs or services. The presenter argues that every department should have a process to ensure decisions align with the organization's mission and values, and that data should drive all decisions. Quality assurance teams in instruction, course design, and IT help guarantee decisions meet standards and collect needed data on student experiences. The key is using an organization's mission to define quality, gathering metrics to measure it in each area, and making evidence-based choices that prioritize students based on those metrics. Leaders are advised to pilot impactful decisions and collect resulting data rather than gambling without information.

This document discusses agile metrics and why they matter. It begins with an introduction to Erik Weber and his background. It then provides a brief history of metrics usage, comparing traditional and agile environments. In traditional environments, metrics were often used punitively with negative effects, while agile focuses on building quality in through practices like definition of done. The document cautions that the only metric that truly matters is customer feedback. It discusses the human side of metrics, like the Hawthorne effect, and suggests focusing on outcomes rather than outputs. Finally, it provides examples of agile metrics like sprint burndowns, velocity, throughput and happiness that can provide value when used appropriately.
Similar to E-learning and data: two peas in a pod (20)
This document discusses the three crucial elements for a successful IoT project: speed, integration, and data. It notes that 88% of IoT projects fail due to challenges with these elements, such as businesses struggling to access and analyze data. The Cumulocity IoT platform is presented as a solution to help businesses overcome these challenges and become "data-rich innovators" through features that allow any device to connect, provide a single interface, and offer self-service analytics tools. Examples are given of companies successfully using the Cumulocity platform for remote equipment monitoring, supply chain optimization, and bus monitoring.

Why Psychological Safety Matters for Software Teams - ACE 2024 - Ben Linders.pdfBen Linders
Psychological safety in teams is important; team members must feel safe and able to communicate and collaborate effectively to deliver value. It’s also necessary to build long-lasting teams since things will happen and relationships will be strained.
But, how safe is a team? How can we determine if there are any factors that make the team unsafe or have an impact on the team’s culture?
In this mini-workshop, we’ll play games for psychological safety and team culture utilizing a deck of coaching cards, The Psychological Safety Cards. We will learn how to use gamification to gain a better understanding of what’s going on in teams. Individuals share what they have learned from working in teams, what has impacted the team’s safety and culture, and what has led to positive change.
Different game formats will be played in groups in parallel. Examples are an ice-breaker to get people talking about psychological safety, a constellation where people take positions about aspects of psychological safety in their team or organization, and collaborative card games where people work together to create an environment that fosters psychological safety.

Carrer goals.pptx and their importance in real lifeartemacademy2
Career goals serve as a roadmap for individuals, guiding them toward achieving long-term professional aspirations and personal fulfillment. Establishing clear career goals enables professionals to focus their efforts on developing specific skills, gaining relevant experience, and making strategic decisions that align with their desired career trajectory. By setting both short-term and long-term objectives, individuals can systematically track their progress, make necessary adjustments, and stay motivated. Short-term goals often include acquiring new qualifications, mastering particular competencies, or securing a specific role, while long-term goals might encompass reaching executive positions, becoming industry experts, or launching entrepreneurial ventures.
Moreover, having well-defined career goals fosters a sense of purpose and direction, enhancing job satisfaction and overall productivity. It encourages continuous learning and adaptation, as professionals remain attuned to industry trends and evolving job market demands. Career goals also facilitate better time management and resource allocation, as individuals prioritize tasks and opportunities that advance their professional growth. In addition, articulating career goals can aid in networking and mentorship, as it allows individuals to communicate their aspirations clearly to potential mentors, colleagues, and employers, thereby opening doors to valuable guidance and support. Ultimately, career goals are integral to personal and professional development, driving individuals toward sustained success and fulfillment in their chosen fields.

Apps use cell location data to determine the fastest route to your destination + provides estimated time of arrival.
On top of that the calendar app will notify when you should leave to be on time for your appointment based on real time data.
Big data in banking solutions
Financial management @ our finger tips
We don’t have to go to the bank any more to get our stuff done.
Data is generated by numerous people
Together they will provide you information
This information will provide you knowledge
From which you can derive insights and finally wisdom.
Look @ Waze collects the position of the cars and the inputs provided by users + a massive other amount of data sources
This data provides information - I’m here - GPS location
Which will provide us with the knowing of the information – by chairing information we know.
Combining all this knowledge and analyze it we might see patterns and other. This means we will create insight based on the knowledge Connecting the dots
Google is all well and good, but if you’re using the wrong search terms, you’re not going to find what you’re looking for no matter how many times you click the Search button. You have to imply a certain amount of insight and use some guesswork (“I wonder what most people would call that?”) to get what you’re looking for. Google can’t do that thinking for you.
The movie “limitless”
Our Hero, Eddie, is a smart but unmotivated fiction writer. He takes a drug, and suddenly he’s brilliant. But not because he’s suddenly taking in a huge new ocean of data; no, it’s because he can make connections between data that was already there in his noggin, and create new ideas and new conclusions from it. Such is also the brilliance of Sherlock Holmes, Mr. Spock, Herocule Poirot, and many other “genius” fictional characters. It’s not the data, folks, it’s the connections and conclusions and deductions.
And eventually we might learn something from this and achieve wisdom;
Big data analytics is the process of examining large data sets to uncover hidden patterns, unknown correlations, market trends, customer preferences and other useful business information.
Scale of data every day we create 2,5 quintillion bytes of data = 10 million Blue ray disks
Tremendous amount of variety of data – significantly increased and keeps increasing continuously
Tremendous amount of variety of data – significantly increased and keeps increasing continuously
frequency of incoming data significantly increased
Learning analytics is the measurement, collection, analysis and reporting of data about learners and their contexts, for purposes of understanding and optimizing learning and the environments in which it occurs. This in order to support the business goals.
Knowing what you need – what you are trying to resolve or what goal you are trying to accomplish will help you to define the data and the metrics.
Asking questions does not really cost serious money.
But by asking questions and analyzing the results we can draw some conclusions.
These might cost really money but then we know why it is needed
So this helps to get a budget- Be specific in what you are aiming for.
SMART goals M Measurable
Sometimes it’s hard to get the data.

They all provide datapoints from a learning perspective.
You do not from day one need all the data.
You can start with a small but relevant and applicable dataset which is representative for the entire dataset.
Based on this make a sample report and present this to the stakeholders involved.
This quick sample will provide us with good insights and will help us to improve / adjust
Various stakeholders – different requirements but also different responses to the provided report!
Match your report and data with the audience requirements. Try so speak their language.
Not all stakeholders will respond in a positive way to your report.
Some people do not want to listen to the data
Some people will listen to the data but they have already made up their mind
Some people will go way beyond the requested.
Some people are emotionally attached to their program/project
Make sure to engage the receivers but equally the requestors for the data.
Align upfront with the various stakeholders
Which of the 4 quadrants of the change management matrix would be applicable for learning analytics?
Things that are not (yet) urgent but very important.
Will allow us to gather the data – and make these visible prior for them becoming urgent and thus allowing us to act prior
Helps you to set the requirements for the data sample size.
The larger the sample size the smaller the chance on an error in a random course will be if no errors were found in the sample size.
30 courses reviewed no typo’s found then by the rule of 3 we can state that there is a 10% change of typo’s within a course created.
300 courses reviewed no types by rule of 3 chance for a typo in a course is 1 %
