Big data refers to the large amounts of structured and unstructured data that businesses receive daily. While the volume of data is large, it is what organizations do with the data that matters by analyzing it for insights to improve decisions and strategies. The amount of global data continues to grow exponentially, increasing the potential to glean key insights, yet only a small percentage of data is currently analyzed. Businesses should focus on better utilizing the information they receive every day to reduce costs, improve efficiency, develop new products and services, and make smarter decisions through big data analytics. However, data must be carefully interpreted and can be misused, so context from fields like the humanities and social sciences is important for critical thinking.
WiDS - Unleashing the promises of big dataYara Jubran
Due to the rapid development of information and computer technologies, nowadays we can generate, store and process big data more than ever. Consequently, organizations can benefit from this significant development as it allows them to have more data at their disposal. However, for organizations to benefit from available data, the data must be processed, extracted and converted into useful information that may lead to taking informed decision. Yet, this is easier said than done.
While there is a shared understanding of big data’s power and importance, many fail to perceive the actionable steps and resources required to utilize it effectively. And this lack of strategic planning -which enables us to optimally use big data and take faster evidence-informed decisions- is one of the major impediments to successful completion of big data projects and initiatives.
The aim of this presentation is setting out a roadmap to simplify the shift onto the big data journey for businesses by answering ‘How to unleash the promises of big data within an organization?’ It will address the key factors to decode big data successfully and suggests a set of main steps to do it. The key steps are drawn from multiple domains and case studies that are each deemed to constitute the strategic plan.

This white paper will explain what Big Data is and provide practical examples, concluding with a message how to put data your data to work.
Everyone's talking about big data – getting our arms around it and putting it to work for us. This paper summarizes a panel discussion at the 2012 SAS Financial Services Executive Summit where industry leaders shared their ideas about big data and what their organizations are doing with it. Aditya Bhasin from Bank of America talked about how to extract more value from the data you already have, even if it's just a fraction of what's out there. Robert Kirkpatrick, who leads the UN Global Pulse initiative, talked about how data can help us better understand global economies and human welfare. Charles Thomas, a market research and analytics executive at USAA, described how his company is navigating the shift to more real-time and predictive analysis. Oceans of big data: Take the plunge or wade in slowly?Deloitte Canada
In a recent study, Deloitte identified some of the hurdles that keep organizations from making greater use of business analytics. These include poor technology infrastructure, the quality and amount of data being collected and leadership that may not support or even understand the use of analytics.
This presentation defines big data, explains why you should care about big data, and suggests when big data should be used. The potential of big data is immense, but it can also become an expensive distraction. Once you remove constraints on the size, type, source and complexity of useful data, you can ask the ‘crunchy’ questions that are critical to the success of your business.
This whitepaper aims to assist Chief Data Officers in promoting a data-driven culture at their
organization, helping them lead the enterprise on a digital transformation journey backed by
analytical insights.
This talk is an introduction to Data Science. It explains Data Science from two perspectives - as a profession and as a descipline. While covering the benefits of Data Science for business, It explaints how to get started for embracing data science in business.
Analytics Isn’t Enough To Create A Data–Driven CultureaNumak & Company
The earned values are perhaps compatible with older technologies. As we believe big data and AI are extensions of analytical capabilities, the most common and most likely to succeed are those related to "advanced analytics and better decisions."
Sunil Jagani, President and CTO of AllianceTek, explains Big Data as techniques and initiatives to handle the fast-changing and ever-growing data that is too much for conventional technologies and applications to handle. He believes leveraging Big Data is the key to effective product development and formulating marketing strategies.
McCandless' repertoire of visualized data has ranged from politics and climate to pop music trends. But it’s not the actual graphics that present McCandless’ true brilliance. Rather, it’s his ability to discover new ways to combine data in a fresh and interesting way. In his TED Talk, he discusses his process of turning complex data into simple yet engaging graphics.
Traits of the Data-Driven
The data-driven:
● Make decisions at the lowest possible level
● Bring as much diverse data to any situation as they possibly can
● Use data to develop a deeper understanding of their worlds
● Develop an appreciation for variation
● Deal reasonably well with uncertainty
● Integrate their ability to understand data and its implications with their intuitions
● Recognize the importance of high-quality data and invest to make improvements
● Conduct good experiments and research
● Recognize that decision criteria can vary with circumstances
● Realize that making a decision is only the first step
● Work hard to learn new skills and bring new data and new data technologies (big data, predictive analytics, metadata management, etc.) into their organizations
● Learn from their mistakes
Data visualization has the power to change the world!
This ppt gives an insight into how one should try to inculcate the humanistic nature in data and make the data speak through art and design. Basic facts are described in the slides for making the approach easy.
The presentation briefly explains the important facts on how a novice man can think effectively like a data scientist. The presentation outlays that one need not be a core learner to think broadly and make interpretations using data.

The French Revolution, which began in 1789, was a period of radical social and political upheaval in France. It marked the decline of absolute monarchies, the rise of secular and democratic republics, and the eventual rise of Napoleon Bonaparte. This revolutionary period is crucial in understanding the transition from feudalism to modernity in Europe.

Operation “Blue Star” is the only event in the history of Independent India where the state went into war with its own people. Even after about 40 years it is not clear if it was culmination of states anger over people of the region, a political game of power or start of dictatorial chapter in the democratic setup.
The people of Punjab felt alienated from main stream due to denial of their just demands during a long democratic struggle since independence. As it happen all over the word, it led to militant struggle with great loss of lives of military, police and civilian personnel. Killing of Indira Gandhi and massacre of innocent Sikhs in Delhi and other India cities was also associated with this movement.
The Roman Empire A Historical Colossus.pdfkaushalkr1407
The Roman Empire, a vast and enduring power, stands as one of history's most remarkable civilizations, leaving an indelible imprint on the world. It emerged from the Roman Republic, transitioning into an imperial powerhouse under the leadership of Augustus Caesar in 27 BCE. This transformation marked the beginning of an era defined by unprecedented territorial expansion, architectural marvels, and profound cultural influence.
The empire's roots lie in the city of Rome, founded, according to legend, by Romulus in 753 BCE. Over centuries, Rome evolved from a small settlement to a formidable republic, characterized by a complex political system with elected officials and checks on power. However, internal strife, class conflicts, and military ambitions paved the way for the end of the Republic. Julius Caesar’s dictatorship and subsequent assassination in 44 BCE created a power vacuum, leading to a civil war. Octavian, later Augustus, emerged victorious, heralding the Roman Empire’s birth.
Under Augustus, the empire experienced the Pax Romana, a 200-year period of relative peace and stability. Augustus reformed the military, established efficient administrative systems, and initiated grand construction projects. The empire's borders expanded, encompassing territories from Britain to Egypt and from Spain to the Euphrates. Roman legions, renowned for their discipline and engineering prowess, secured and maintained these vast territories, building roads, fortifications, and cities that facilitated control and integration.
The Roman Empire’s society was hierarchical, with a rigid class system. At the top were the patricians, wealthy elites who held significant political power. Below them were the plebeians, free citizens with limited political influence, and the vast numbers of slaves who formed the backbone of the economy. The family unit was central, governed by the paterfamilias, the male head who held absolute authority.
Culturally, the Romans were eclectic, absorbing and adapting elements from the civilizations they encountered, particularly the Greeks. Roman art, literature, and philosophy reflected this synthesis, creating a rich cultural tapestry. Latin, the Roman language, became the lingua franca of the Western world, influencing numerous modern languages.
Roman architecture and engineering achievements were monumental. They perfected the arch, vault, and dome, constructing enduring structures like the Colosseum, Pantheon, and aqueducts. These engineering marvels not only showcased Roman ingenuity but also served practical purposes, from public entertainment to water supply.

4. What is big data?
Big data is a term that describes the large volume of data –
both structured and unstructured – that inundates a
business on a day-to-day basis. But it’s not the amount of
data that’s important. It’s what organizations do with the
data that matters. Big data can be analyzed for insights
that lead to better decisions and strategic business moves.
5.
6. Big data’s big potential
The amount of data that’s being created and stored on a
global level is almost inconceivable, and it just keeps growing.
That means there’s even more potential to glean key insights
from business information – yet only a small percentage of
data is actually analyzed. What does that mean for
businesses? How can they make better use of the raw
information that flows into their organizations every day?
7. Why Is Big Data Important?
The importance of big data doesn’t revolve around how much data
you have, but what you do with it. You can take data from any
source and analyze it to find answers that enable 1) cost reductions,
2) time reductions, 3) new product development and optimized
offerings, and 4) smart decision making. When you combine big
data with high-powered analytics, you can accomplish business-
related tasks such as:
• Determining root causes of failures, issues and defects in near-real time.
• Generating coupons at the point of sale based on the customer’s buying
habits.
• Recalculating entire risk portfolios in minutes.
10. It's not just big data that causes challenges of interpretation,
because let's face it, we human beings have a very rich
history of taking any amount of data, no matter how small,
and screwing it up.
11. WE CAN PROCESS EXABYTES OF DATA
AT LIGHTNING SPEED, AND WE HAVE
THE POTENTIAL TO MAKE BAD
DECISIONS FAR MORE QUICKLY,
EFFICIENTLY, AND WITH FAR GREATER
IMPACT THAN WE DID IN THE PAST.
12.
13. “FACTS ARE STUBBORN THINGS,
BUT SOMETIMES THEY'RE STUPID,
TOO.”
And they're vulnerable to misuse, wilful or
otherwise.
14. So what we need to do instead is spend a little bit more time on
things like the humanities and sociology, and the social sciences,
rhetoric, philosophy, ethics, because they give us context that is so
important for big data, and because they help us become better
critical thinkers.
