Technology has brought us so much: the moon
landing, the Internet, the ability to sequence
the human genome.
We are not passive consumers of data and
technology. We shape the role it plays in our
lives and the way we make meaning from it, but
to do that, we have to pay as much attention to
how we think as how we code. We have to ask
questions, and hard questions, to move past
counting things to understanding them.

4. BIG DATA ANALYTICS
Big data analytics examines large amounts
of data to uncover hidden patterns,
correlations and other insights. With
today’s technology, it’s possible to analyze
your data and get answers from it almost
immediately – an effort that’s slower and
less efficient with more traditional business
intelligence solutions.

8. Data doesn't create meaning. We do. So as
businesspeople, consumers, patients,
citizens, we have a responsibility, to spend more
time focusing on our critical thinking
skills. Why? Because at this point in our history,
as we've heard many times over, we can process
exabytes of data at lightning speed, and we
have the potential to make bad decisions far
more quickly, efficiently, and with far greater
impact than we did in the past. Great,
right? And so what we need to do instead is
spend a little bit more time critical thinking.

causes challenges of interpretation, because
let's face it, we human beings have a very rich
history of taking any amount of data, no matter
how small, and screwing it up.
Thus the available data must be secure and
efficiently used to drive outputs which help in
the progress of the aspect being dealt with.

relevant to a manager?
Most companies today have large amounts of
data. However, data doesn’t define itself.
A manager needs to deploy a Data Analytics
team for efficient data processing and
extracting results which can be used by a
manager to make accurate and informed
decisions.

Hadoop and cloud-based analytics bring
significant cost advantages when it comes to
storing large amounts of data – plus they can
identify more efficient ways of doing business.

14. Faster, better decision making. With the speed
of Hadoop and in-memory analytics, combined
with the ability to analyze new sources of data,
businesses are able to analyze information
immediately – and make decisions based on
what they’ve learned.
New products and services. With the ability to
gauge customer needs and satisfaction through
analytics comes the power to give customers
what they want. Davenport points out that with

new products to meet customers’ needs.
