In her TED talk, Susan Etlinger discusses how to make sense of the large amounts of data being generated. She makes two key insights: 1) How we think about data is as important as how we analyze it technologically, and we can shape how data impacts our lives; 2) Data does not create meaning on its own, meaning is created by people through assessing and analyzing data in context. She cautions that assessments can overvalue some metrics like words while undervaluing others like creative problem solving. Etlinger argues we need to focus more on critical thinking skills to properly understand data.
