While I was stationed in Kunsan Airbase, Korea, I was fortunate to have the opportunity to be
involved in many new experiences. I was in a foreign country I had never been to and I was also
working a job that was entirely different from my previous one. Out of all the fresh experiences I
had in South Korea though, one stands out from the others. It was stressful, it was challenging, but
it was my most significant personal accomplishment while stationed there. It was the time I

memory of prisoners of war and those missing in action, both past and present, by holding several

However, when I initially volunteered, I had no idea the work that was involved in organizing an
event for a base nor how much time I would need to spend on the logistics. We started having
meetings in early June and the POW/MIA events would take place in September. A group of about
ten of us would hold a meeting every week in order to come together, share ideas, and update the
status of our individual event to the head organizer of all the events, Sergeant Struckel. It was in
those meetings that I was made aware of how many different organizations had to be involved in
putting something together for an entire base. Portions of the planning process that I thought would
be clear and simple ended up being more complicated than expected. The first part was to plan
how I wanted the day of the event would go. I decided that the 5K would be advertised as an
optional ruck march where members could carry a minimum weight of 30lbs with them across
the finish or run. Then after the 5K, we would gather around a bonfire for a Watch Fire event
and the base chaplain would say a few words about the significance of a Watch Fire and relate it
back to POW and MIA. From there, we would gift all the participants and volunteers a poker chip
of our own design and then tear down and clean up. It turned out that all of that was easier

Working with faceless people is the biggest adjustment I am making. I enjoy physical human
interaction and I do not have that luxury online. I find that the lack of immediate visual feedback
often puts me in a state of panic. The faceless set up will not change. Online education is here to
stay (Drago amp; Wagner, 2004, para. 5), but I can adjust my mindset. I must look for alternate
ways to relate with others; stop looking for visual cues, and remember that I am in an
asynchronous learning environment. The next best thing to physical interaction is communicating

There are many events, people, and differences that led to the civil war. The main being that the
South wanted to keep on with slavery while the North did not. The civil war, also known as the
War of Rebellion, began on April 12, 1861, and the last battle was on May 13, 1865. There was

grammar. When reading an article, the easier the words are to interpret, the easier the article is

more advanced vocabulary. They may even include data in the form of charts and tables. This is

In Oliver Sacks The Man Who Mistook His Wife for a Hat, he denotes a deficit is an impairment
or incapacity of neurological function; such as loss of speech, loss of language, loss of memory,
loss of vision loss of dexterity, or loss of identity (Sacks, 1985). The specific neurological disorder
that is highlighted in chapter one is Visual Agnosia, which is a deficit associated with poor primary
visual processing that affects shape perception, figures, object, face and letter recognition (Serino,
et al., 2014). Other subtypes of visual agnosia that also seemed to fit the descriptions that Sacks
shared is prosopagnosia, which is the inability to recognize human faces (Shah, 2016), and
pantomime agnosia, characterized as the inability to understand gestures (Gonzalez, Mack,
Heilman, K., 1986).
In chapter one, Sacks talks about a patient dubbed Dr P, who was a musician, singer, artist, and a
teacher at the Local of Music. Dr P had problems recognizing his students faces, which is when
his problems were first recognized. He could not recognize people until they started talking or
moving, and would see faces where there were none, such as in furniture, water hydrants, and
parking meters. However, this did not seem to trouble him, and did not seek any sort of medical
help, until years later when he developed diabetes. He went to an ophthalmologist, who told him his
vision was fine, but that there was something the matter with the visual part of his brain. That was
when he was referred to Oliver Sacks, a neurologist.
Sacks did not think that the issue was dementia, but did notice something odd about the man.
Sacks noticed that Dr P would fixate on details about his face, but not on the face or expressions
as a whole. After an initial neurological exam, Sacks noticed that the man s reflexes were a bit
abnormal on his left side, as he had taken off his shoe, but failed to realize that he did not have it
on. He also had trouble looking at a pin on the floor, but only if it was put on his left side. It is

While there are some similarities between Willie Mae Big Mama Thornton and Elvis Presley s
versions of the song Hound Dog, I am of the opinion that there were more differences. The
