failures of the death penalty use occurred only in the 90th of the last century. In 1991, from the 180
countries present on the map the death penalty was abolished only in 60. Nevertheless, the official
abolishment of the legislation referring to the execution and the end of its practical use in most
countries differed over time, and in the majority of the most European countries this kind of
punishment has not been carried out more than a century. In Western countries, there is no

I ve always been passionate about non profit organizations. I ve volunteered my valuable time with
organizations committed to rebuilding various communities such as single months, at risk youth,
and homeless. Almost 3 years ago I made the decision to pursue an undergraduate degree in
interdisciplinary studies and complete the certification for non profit managementin hopes of one
day managing a non profit and gaining the experience necessary to establishing a foundation that
will fund multiple non profits in the future.
When I initially registered for PAD4148 volunteer management I was pretty clear on the notion that
in this course I d be learning and gaining knowledge on how to manage volunteers. I did not realize
that in order to effectively and efficiently manage volunteer and staff in a non profit organization, or
any organization for that matter, there are many layers involved. My basic understanding of non
profit management was the necessity for organization, humility as a leader and showing
appreciation for you team. The only reason I even discovered these needed elements in non profit
management is because I served with a non profit organization for years that lacked them. I felt so
burned out mentally, emotionally, and even spiritually because I was working so hard towards the
mission and vision that I whole heartedly believed in but the lack of organization, appreciated and

There is a crisis in California today creating a stalemate in decision making and solving of any
problems the state faces. There are so many problems and so many solutions, that no progress
can be made properly without conflicting interestests and opinions pausing any headway that
might have been made. Most people believe that California is stuck where it is because of rules
and regulations that are great on their own, but terrible when combined. The result of this crisis
is a downwards spiral towards lower funding for public services and a seemingly insurmountable
problem with budgeting. Some changes have been made to help the budget, but they still aren t
enough due to the many elements that cause this crisis to be so complicated. The element that
causes a program funding to go down is the fact that a two thirds majority is required for any
increase in taxes to occur. This is with every member, not just those that are present and voting.
While in the past, this has not posed as great of a problem, currenty the majority of the
Republican Party are against any tax increases, creating a deadlock where no tax can be increased
due to no way to get a two thirds majority in a vote. The problem with the lack of tax increase,
though, is that the burden of the state budgeting crisis ends up effecting lower income residents that

This book cover is appealing to me because it shows a peaceful farm with clouds hovering above
it. The cover depicts the first part of the novel when Claude is one his farm in Nebraska. It shows

bookcovers. This is one of the most appealing to me because they not only provide a pretty picture

an activity that any police officer must do in order to better stay safe within the community and

In the play Oedipus Rex by Sophocles, Oedipus remains blind throughout the play, both
figuratively and literally. The play is about a man named Oedipus whose fate is to kill his father
and marry his mother. His biological parents, knowing about the Oedipus prophecy, abandons
him, and continue with their lives. However, Oedipus is saved, but spends his life running away
from his adoptive parents (who he believed to be his biological parents), afraid that the prophecy
may come true. As the audience knows, the prophecy has been fulfilled, however, Oedipus is
oblivious to the truth. He often chooses to ignore the truth and remain figuratively blind to what
everyone is trying to prove to him. He accuses Tiresias, the blind prophet, of being a liar,
continuing to then unreasonably project his anger towards Creon . Once he finally opens his
eyes to the truth, he decides to gouge out his eyes, becoming literally blind. Firstly, Oedipus
accuses Tiresias of being a liar after trying to discuss the prophecy and tell Oedipus the truth.
Tiresias is called in to help release the city from the plague. After some resistance, the prophet
reveals that Oedipus is the murderer of Laius, angering Oedipus as Tiresias had predicted.
Oedipus rejects Tiresias words, saying things such as That obscenity, twice by god, you ll pay

The desired effect of this idea is to leave it open for interpretation and therefore creating a
response in the audience and a discussion of what the true message is that s hidden behind the
ink. The poem to my dear loving husband is generally thought to give the message that love is
everlasting, even after death. In the first stanza of the poem the author puts out a challenge to
other women to compare their love to hers as she states if ever wife is happy in a man, compare
with me, ye woman, if you can . This engages the reader to really see how their love or marriage
really does compare to what the author is saying. In the next stanza with the lines I prize thy
love more than whole mines of gold, or all the riches in the east doth hold . This is her saying
that her love is of much greater importance to her than that of wealth and power. In the final
stanza she talks of her love being a gift that she has been given and of which she doesn t believe
