Many communities today are composed of different cultural traditions and ethnic groups that often come into conflict because they do not respect each other's worldviews and fail to reconcile differences through non-violent strategies. Cultural solidarity is best expressed through intercultural trust, empathy, respect and understanding in plural societies where different cultures learn to coexist peacefully. Concepts like ethnocentrism, xenocentrism, cultural relativism and culture shock can affect cultural solidarity when encountering an unfamiliar culture.
