Biblical Ethics
How This Course Works
Welcome
Welcome to this course on
biblical ethics. The course
is an attempt to under-
stand what the Bible says
is right and wrong with
respect to various every-
day issues.
Biblical Ethics
Self-Study
This course is designed for self-study on the MySats
site. All the study materials are provided on the course
page. You can access the required readings and view
the presentations on MySats. You can also take the
review quizzes and submit your responses to the
questions for reflection MySats. After you submit your
answers, you can compare them with others’
responses. In addition, there are regular opinion polls
just for interest sake.
Biblical Ethics
No Teacher
Biblical Ethics
There is no teacher
available for interaction
on the course. The study
materials and learning
activities are self-
contained, and can be
completed successfully
without any need to
interact with a teacher.
Self-directed learning
The course site will walk you through a series of
learning activities that you must complete
yourself. When you have successfully completed
all the learning activities, you have completed
the course.
Biblical Ethics
Dialogue
We change and grow
when we discuss God’s
word. The learning
activities require you to
discuss the study
materials with a mature
disciple of Jesus Christ,
and summarise key points
from your discussions.
Biblical Ethics
Lesson by Lesson
The course is designed in
a topical format. You need
to complete one lesson
before you can move to
the next lesson. You can
work at your own pace,
though we recommend
you try to complete a
lesson each week.
Biblical Ethics
Talk to your friend
Each lesson has a “talk to your
friend” activity. We learn best
and grow most when we
discuss key truths and the
implications with fellow
disciples of Jesus Christ; you
learn together.
The “talk to your friend”
activity gives you a topic to
discuss with a fellow believer.
After you do so, you need to
write a short report explaining
what you learned in the
process.
Biblical Ethics
These discussion activities are crucial elements of the course.
You grow most in your knowledge of God when you discuss,
share, and apply the truths you are learning.
Student Discussions
You can interact with
other students taking the
course via the general
forum. The general forum
is a place where you can
post questions or
comments, and respond
to others’ posts.
Biblical Ethics
Textbook
The textbook is provided
as part of the course. It is
a free e-book, which you
have to download in PDF
format when you begin
the course.
Every lesson in the course
prescribes readings from
the textbook. In addition,
the quizzes to test your
understanding are based
on the information in the
textbook and in the
presentations.
Biblical Ethics
Test your understanding
Every lesson contains a
short review quiz with 10-
15 questions. The quiz
covers all the materials for
the lesson.
To complete the course,
you must get 80 per cent
for each quiz.
About the quizzes
• multiple-choice
questions
• true-false questions
• 3 attempts
• last attempt counts
• pass mark: 80 per cent
Biblical Ethics
Opinion Polls
Each lesson has at least one
opinion poll, identified by an
icon in the form of a question
mark.
These are just polls to see
what our students believe. You
have to give your opinion, but
nobody will see your individual
opinion.
Biblical Ethics
Activity completion
To the right of many activities,
you will see a checkbox.
Initially it will look something
like the top example, which
means the activity is
incomplete. (It looks different
on different browsers.) When
the activity is complete, the
checkbox changes appearance.
The course is complete when
all the boxes are checked.
Biblical Ethics


Course completion status
At the bottom left, you will see
a block called “Course
completion status.” It tells you
how many activities must be
completed, and how many you
have already completed.
If you click on the More details
link at the bottom, it will give
you a more detailed
breakdown of your progress.
Biblical Ethics
Course completion status
Biblical Ethics
Linear learning
The course is programmed for
linear learning. You must
complete certain learning
activities before you can
access others.
There are two ways that access
and progress are controlled
and facilitated: “completion”
and “achievement” (see below
for examples).
Biblical Ethics
Progression
Completion
You will see a caption that says
something like, “Not available
until the activity Talk to your
friend 1 is marked complete.”
This means that when the
checkbox beside that activity is
ticked, you can access the
restricted activity.
Achievement
You will see a caption that says
something like, “Not available
until you achieve a required
score in Test your under-
standing 1.” This means that
when you score a passing
grade for that activity, you can
access the restricted activity.
Biblical Ethics
THE END
We pray that you will be informed and transformed as you
study the teachings of the word of God.

Crossroads Course Introduction

  • 1. By Kevin G. Smith Biblical Ethics How This Course Works
  • 2. Welcome Welcome to this course on biblical ethics. The course is an attempt to under- stand what the Bible says is right and wrong with respect to various every- day issues. Biblical Ethics
  • 3. Self-Study This course is designed for self-study on the MySats site. All the study materials are provided on the course page. You can access the required readings and view the presentations on MySats. You can also take the review quizzes and submit your responses to the questions for reflection MySats. After you submit your answers, you can compare them with others’ responses. In addition, there are regular opinion polls just for interest sake. Biblical Ethics
  • 4. No Teacher Biblical Ethics There is no teacher available for interaction on the course. The study materials and learning activities are self- contained, and can be completed successfully without any need to interact with a teacher.
  • 5. Self-directed learning The course site will walk you through a series of learning activities that you must complete yourself. When you have successfully completed all the learning activities, you have completed the course. Biblical Ethics
  • 6. Dialogue We change and grow when we discuss God’s word. The learning activities require you to discuss the study materials with a mature disciple of Jesus Christ, and summarise key points from your discussions. Biblical Ethics
  • 7. Lesson by Lesson The course is designed in a topical format. You need to complete one lesson before you can move to the next lesson. You can work at your own pace, though we recommend you try to complete a lesson each week. Biblical Ethics
  • 8. Talk to your friend Each lesson has a “talk to your friend” activity. We learn best and grow most when we discuss key truths and the implications with fellow disciples of Jesus Christ; you learn together. The “talk to your friend” activity gives you a topic to discuss with a fellow believer. After you do so, you need to write a short report explaining what you learned in the process. Biblical Ethics These discussion activities are crucial elements of the course. You grow most in your knowledge of God when you discuss, share, and apply the truths you are learning.
  • 9. Student Discussions You can interact with other students taking the course via the general forum. The general forum is a place where you can post questions or comments, and respond to others’ posts. Biblical Ethics
  • 10. Textbook The textbook is provided as part of the course. It is a free e-book, which you have to download in PDF format when you begin the course. Every lesson in the course prescribes readings from the textbook. In addition, the quizzes to test your understanding are based on the information in the textbook and in the presentations. Biblical Ethics
  • 11. Test your understanding Every lesson contains a short review quiz with 10- 15 questions. The quiz covers all the materials for the lesson. To complete the course, you must get 80 per cent for each quiz. About the quizzes • multiple-choice questions • true-false questions • 3 attempts • last attempt counts • pass mark: 80 per cent Biblical Ethics
  • 12. Opinion Polls Each lesson has at least one opinion poll, identified by an icon in the form of a question mark. These are just polls to see what our students believe. You have to give your opinion, but nobody will see your individual opinion. Biblical Ethics
  • 13. Activity completion To the right of many activities, you will see a checkbox. Initially it will look something like the top example, which means the activity is incomplete. (It looks different on different browsers.) When the activity is complete, the checkbox changes appearance. The course is complete when all the boxes are checked. Biblical Ethics  
  • 14. Course completion status At the bottom left, you will see a block called “Course completion status.” It tells you how many activities must be completed, and how many you have already completed. If you click on the More details link at the bottom, it will give you a more detailed breakdown of your progress. Biblical Ethics
  • 16. Linear learning The course is programmed for linear learning. You must complete certain learning activities before you can access others. There are two ways that access and progress are controlled and facilitated: “completion” and “achievement” (see below for examples). Biblical Ethics
  • 17. Progression Completion You will see a caption that says something like, “Not available until the activity Talk to your friend 1 is marked complete.” This means that when the checkbox beside that activity is ticked, you can access the restricted activity. Achievement You will see a caption that says something like, “Not available until you achieve a required score in Test your under- standing 1.” This means that when you score a passing grade for that activity, you can access the restricted activity. Biblical Ethics
  • 18. THE END We pray that you will be informed and transformed as you study the teachings of the word of God. Biblical Ethics
