China s Second Hand Trade Essay
2.1 General Introduction Second hand trades have been growing rapidly in the past __ years. The
second hand industry grew at about 7% a year in 2014 and 2015, according to the National
Association of Resale Professionals (Narts). Second hand luxury goods, in particularly, has become a
unique segment standing out among the rest of second hand products. While companies like The Real
Real and What Goes Around Comes Around (WGACA) have been successfully enticed U.S.
customers to sell and buy second hand luxury, they might have left another huge group of potential
customers behind international college students from China, who carry a stack of cash to the US each
year and share a strong enthusiasm towards luxury brands at a young age like most middle class
Chinese. This study intends to focus on Chinese students studying in the US, their culturally specific
motivations and concerns for shopping second hand luxury so as to provide insights for local second
hand stores to better attract them as potential customers. 2.2 Development of Second hand Stores The

world on the journey to find out why does your foot hurt. In this book, Chris travels the world in
search of the best runners and stumbles across barefoot runners, which totally revolutionised what he

Analysis Of Characterism In John Updike s AAnd P
John Updike s A and P, tells the story of narrator, nineteen year old Sammy who works at the local
And P grocery store. Tired, and bored of repetitiveness in his boring New England town, he is shocked
to see three girls come into the store in bathing suits. Everyone in the store, especially Sammy cannot
help but be amused by them. Sammy proves to be a typical teenage boy with his sarcastic humor,
rebellious behavior, and his gullibility for the opposite sex. The atmosphere of the A and P is so
droning, that Sammy has to find ways to overturn his boredom with his own sarcastic thoughts. These
thoughts, is what gives the reader a clear insight into each character that Sammy comes into contact
with. The first character that becomes present is an elderly woman, around age fifty. As he ... Show

Sammy harps on her witch like behavior and appearance by thinking if she d been born at the right
time they would have burned her over in Salem (Updike PG #). Throughout the story, the reader is
forced to decide if Sammy s thoughts are sarcastic, or just mean. Three girls in swimsuits, around his
age, walk into the store which naturally perks his interest. This single scene of these girls, becomes the
entire focus of the story s plot. One in particular he finds himself admiring the most, which he dubs
her Queenie , but as for her friends, Sammy s descriptions of them make them far from a queen. The
first one he spots is a chunky one who had a bunched up berry face (Updike PG #). The other had hair
that didn t quite frizz right and in Sammy s opinion, she was not attractive. He nicknames her Big
Gooney Gooney , clearly mocking her height. The attractive one, immediately earned the attention of
Sammy as she walked across the store in her bare feet and

My Family Trip
A family vacation that is important to me was the trip to Washington D.C. I took in 2006. I went on
this vacation with my family friend and my two nephews. We went to Washington D.C. because my
nephews had a strong interest in learning the United States history along with myself. We decided to
go to Washington D.C. because it has a rich history in the United States and was one of the best places
to learn about our country and its presidents. I chose to take my nephews with me to Washington
because it was a great bonding experience with them and really allowed family bonding time that got
them away from home. I chose to go with my family friend because he was also interested in history
at the time. During our vacation, we went to many places that made a huge impact in our lives and
will always make a huge impact in our lives. The first place we went to after the hotel, of course, was
Abraham Lincoln s monument. The first impression we had of the monument was that it was huge!
While we were there Lincoln s monument was not very crowded, which we were thankful for. At the
monument we took pictures with Lincoln and stood and looked back at what Lincoln had done in his
lifetime. It was at his monument that we also realized how much Lincoln deserved the biggest
monument money could buy. This was important to me because I have always wanted to learn more
about Lincoln and what he had done in his presidency. Looking around the monument we could see

Virgil Analysis of Dante Inferno Essay example
Virgil
Virgil came to be regarded as one of Rome s greatest poets. His Aeneid can be considered a national
epic of Rome and has been extremely popular from its publication to the present day.
Virgil Beatrice sends Virgil to Earth to retrieve Dante and act as his guide through Hell and Purgatory.
Since the poet Virgil lived before Christianity, he dwells in Limbo (Ante Inferno) with other righteous
non Christians. As author, Dante chooses the character Virgil to act as his guide because he admired
Virgil s work above all other poets and because Virgil had written of a similar journey through the
underworld. Thus, Virgil s character knows the way through Hell and can act as Dante s
knowledgeable guide while he struggles alongside Dante ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Dante is like the son Virgil never had. This comes to light most apparently in their flight from the two
timing demons. In lifting Dante to his chest and carrying him as he sprints toward safety, Virgil
becomes a mother figure to the terrified Dante. Hmmm, father and mother? You re right in guessing
that something bigger is going on here. As an unofficial poet laureate of the Romans, Virgil is a kind
of patron spirit of Italy. Moreover, as the consummate speaker and writer of Latin the ancestor
language of Italian Virgil is, in a sense, the fore father of Dante s native language. The two poets
kinship traces back to their respective languages.
Virgil and Language
As much as Dante wants the title of world s greatest poet, Virgil, it seems, has that honor. If you haven
t noticed, the author Dante hits us over the head with all the linguistic imagery in which Virgil is
steeped. First and foremost, there s that big important passage about Virgil s persuasive word. We
know this is a weird concept so let s just recap. The phrase in Italian is parole ornate which translates
literally as decorated word. Doesn t that fit Virgil to a T? We re talking about the writer of the Aeneid
here, the Latin epic to end all epics, and Dante s all time favorite book.
We figure that Virgil spent so much time writing the Aeneid invoking the Muses, speaking in

Byzantines Dbq Essay
The Byzantines have made many great accomplishments during the middle ages. Whether you re
talking about the numerous defeats they have in battles to their defenses or the impact they had on
Christianity, there s no doubt of the importance of studying the Byzantines. The purpose of this paper
is to explain why it is important to study the Byzantines.
The Byzantines had many defeats in battles against the Persians, Avars, and Muslim Arabs. The
Byzantines withstood five years of siege by the Arabs, and in doing so, saved Western civilization.
(Doc A) By winning the battles against the Arabs, they saved Constantinople from being captured by
them. Had the Arabs captured Constantinople in the seventh century, all Europe and America might be
Muslim today. If it weren t for the elaborate defense surrounding Constantinople who knows if this
would have been possible. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The walls surrounding it were there to protect the city against the Goths and Huns, who had captured
Rome already. These walls were able to hold off those trying to invade for almost one thousand years.
There was one wall that bounded the city s seaward sides. The Byzantines built a moat and three
walls, each 25 feet thick, on the land side. (Doc B) Invaders were first faced with the moat that was 60
feet wide and 22 feet deep. This was normally dry but could be flooded by pipes if necessary. Behind
this was a set of three walls to get through. The first, a low wall to shield a line of archers. However, if
attackers managed to get through the first wall, they had to overcome the second wall which was 27
feet high. This sheltered even more troops. Finally if possible to get through all this they had to give
there all for the last wall. Standing at 70 feet high, this wall housed more archers and missile throwers.
The only thing that could destroy these walls was the force of

John Philip Sousa Influence
The March King , as John Philip Sousa was so aptly nicknamed due to the total of 136 military
marches he composed over his lifetime, was born in Washington, D.C. on November 6, 1854. From an
early age, Sousa had a great deal of parental influence persuading him to let music be a guiding force
in his life, as his father played the trombone in the United States Marine Band. The adults in Sousa s
life believed that he possessed a great deal of natural talent even in his youth. At the age of 14, he
followed in his father s footsteps and became an apprentice in the Marine Band. He went on to join the
Marines himself and was specially discharged at the age of twenty, after which he decided to try his
hand at being a professional musician.
While in his early twenties, Sousa toured with several traveling music groups. One amateur group he
worked with was so successful that it managed to become professional under his leadership. Sousa s

he conducted around the country, millions of dollars were raised toward the war effort. Perhaps his
most famous feat, aside from the many marches he composed, was helping J. W. Pepper invent the
sousaphone. In the remainder of his spare time, it is said that Sousa enjoyed reading, horseback riding,
and trapshooting.
John Philip Sousa died on March 6, 1932 of a heart attack. More than seventy five years later, his
memory in the music world is still immortalized in the form of the instrument he helped invent, the
many patriotic pieces he penned, and the number of buildings and awards named for

Model Minority Theory
Stereotypes refer to the beliefs that make up the characteristics, attributes, and behaviors of members
within a specific group (Whitley, 2016). While stereotypes can serve as a way to make quick
judgements based on what we perceive, they can negatively affect those who are stereotyped.
Stereotypes regardless if they are good or bad can create harmful consequences by attributing
characteristics to people that simply aren t true. Many forms of racism and stereotyping pertaining to
Asian Americans are often neglected and require further attention to have these issues addressed
properly (Tummala Narra, 2018). These neglected forms of racism can potentially affect the physical

on the deteriorating world due to technological advances. The most important technological
advancement is the feed that the corporations in the future will create. The feed contributes to how
people participate in everyday activities. Only people who can afford one are able to have a feed

The feed corporation preferred people to have the device implanted into the brain as a baby because
the brain was still developing and changing which allowed the brain to grow properly with the feed.
When Violet was young her mom left her father and Violet s father had to get by with very little and
also care for Violet. Violet s dad finally saves up the money to afford a feed for her. Violet
communication skills are more ingenious due to growing up in a different atmosphere. She met Titus
while on the moon and they grew closer. Later, Titus meets her father and when Violet and Titus were
leaving, he looked at her and says, I didn t understand a single thing he said (Anderson 137). Titus
grew up exposed to relying on the feed for many ways of communicating. When Violet s father spoke
with a broad vocabulary, Titus did not know what he was attempting to say to him due to the feed
manipulating the English language to be as simple as possible. In Gooding s article about the novel
Feed, he perceives Violet s father as being the most acutely aware of the interplay of technological and
economic forces that has turned America into a nation of impatient adolescents (Gooding). Gooding is
implying that Violet s father has lived without a feed his entire life and over the years he has observed
how it has impacted the younger generations and how the technology is dominating society and daily
living.

Analysis Of The Novel Crime And Punishment
Principles of Response to Life and Hardships Individuals have different ways in responding to
hardships based on the principles they live by. In Crime and Punishment, Dostoevsky explores
contrasting ways of response to adversity. In the novel, there are those who don t commit crimes while
facing the hardships of life, like Sonia, Lizaveta, and Mikolka. Those like Raskolnikov, however, try
to change the elements of life that provide challenges by taking drastic measures to modify society
and life: by murdering an opportunist pawnbroker in his case. When reading Crime and Punishment,
one can see that the difference in one s response to suffering depends on whether or not violence is
used. While Raskolnikov uses violence to change his circumstances, other characters respond to the
same challenges of life in a way that does not generate violence. Approach to suffering is strictly
rooted in the contrasting principles that the characters in the novel posses. Sonia, Lizaveta, and
Mikolka s way of life contradicts the principles that Raskolnikov lives by. Raskolnikov, in contrast,
views himself as a Napoleonic figure, which takes his fate in his own hands in the beginning of the
novel. By presenting these two opposing sides, Dostoevsky shows those who step over the laws to
bring change into society and those who don t. Raskolnikov establishes himself as a person who has
new ideas. Crime and Punishment focuses on two opposing sides of people. Since the very beginning

Ain T Language Analysis
The word ain t is one of the most commonly overlooked mistake in the English dictionary. It is used
very often in TV, books, movies, media, and music, so we shouldn t be surprised it is now in our real
life. Even though our English teachers and grammar books label the word ain t as incorrect the use of
the word has not been banished just yet.
One writer on the topic, Linda Eve Diamond, starts off her article by asking her audience is it true
what they say, that ain t ain t a word (or at least a proper one)? And if it is, why is it so unacceptable
now when in the eighteenth century it was just as respectable as any other contraction? (par 1). Some
individuals believe the person who studies and writes about grammar made a big mistake by banishing
the word. However, everyone knows that ain t is not proper. Diamond goes on to explain that,

that language ain t what it used to be. (par ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
To clarify the distinction, consider the expression ain t. Unless used intentionally to add colloquial
flavor, ain t is unacceptable because its use is considered nonstandard. (par 2). Colloquial tone is a
language used in ordinary conversations, and in nothing formal. For example, the word ain t can help
advertisements by giving the title a catchy tone. It can also bring comedy in a play or movie.
Nordquist goes on to mention, ain t is used by many speakers in certain fixed expressions and to
convey a certain rhetorical effect. (par 4). Using ain t can help persuade or influence some people.
However, Nordquist says, As linguistic scholars have frequently pointed out, it is unfortunate that ain t

Melissa Aronczyk Branding The Nation Summary
Branding the Nation by Melissa Aronczyk is a book which depicts the business of branding nations
often done by governments through their diverse marketing strategies. Currently, governments are
turning to marketing experts and advisors to help them in defining and marketing their jurisdiction.
Public relations advisors, communication experts, and branding experts are consulted to enhance the

Major companies include Con Way, JB Hunt, Schneider National, Swift transportation, and YRC
Worldwide. Most employees in the truck transportation and warehousing industry work in small
establishments. Fewer than 5 workers are employed by 62 percent of trucking and warehousing
establishments. Consolidation in the industry has reduced the number of small, specialized firms.
Trucking and warehousing establishments are found throughout the United States. The differential in
growth between the freight industry and the trucking industry could be the factor that pushes trucking
vacancies. The trucking industry has a current growth rate of 1%, while the freight industry is seeing a
4% growth rate. In addition, federal safety regulations are limiting the work hours for truck drivers,
which results in more employees needed by trucking companies. The combination of all these things
compiled the cost of diesel, spells out higher overall costs for every single trucking company in the
industry. The growth of the freight industry and superior efficiency of railroads will lead to an even
slower growth rate for the trucking industry and could be a cause for more concern as the trend
continues.

The Importance Of Reflective Leadership
Reflective learning is important as it allows one to realize their strengths and weaknesses, develop self
awareness, understand how you learn, and plan your own development (University of Kent, 2012).
According to Barbour (2013), reflective practice is the cyclic process of internally examining and
exploring an issue of concern, triggered by an experience, which creates and clarifies meaning in
terms of self, existing knowledge, and experience; resulting in a changed conceptual perceptive and
practice (p. 7). This allows us to better understand ourselves so that we can grow and develop. There
are ten complexity principles that help leaders thrive in the environment of chaos and complexity.
Moreover, leaders need to qualities of courage and will to be effective. There are several leadership
assessment surveys that one can take to learn more about themselves in order to understand areas of
strengths and areas where growth is needed.
Complexity Principles Reflection
According to Porter O Grady and Malloch (2018), the principles of complexity theory largely
determine how best to help others own their own change, undertake the right change processes, and
understand the new rules of engagement in this postindustrial age (p. 53). These principles state that
leaders should be able to see the bigger picture and understand the broad purpose of an organization,
the importance of the point of service and the interrelationships of an organization, and how impactful

Groundhogs Research Paper
HI, I am a groundhog, and I am one of many in the world. Punxsutawney Phil is my name. I like to
think of myself as a rare species because there is a whole holiday dedicated to myself and other
groundhogs. The place I call home is in a well vegetated area. It is not much, but it is still my home.
Most of my favorite foods are there, nevertheless, I like to live there. Because I am a groundhog, I am
famous for predicting longer winters, or sometimes smaller winter. Groundhogs can also be known as
Woodchucks, too.
On most days I sleep, but on Thursday, February 2, I wake up in search for my terrifying, black
shadow. All generations of groundhogs have searched for their shadows, but few have found them.
Tomorrow is the huge day I will make my

Choosing the Wrong Pricing Strategy Can Be a Costly Mistake
Published : June 04, 2003 in Knowledge@Wharton
Prices have been at the center of human interaction ever since traders in ancient Mesopotamia our
modern day Iraq began keeping records. Who doesn t love to guess what something costs or argue
about what something ought to cost?
So it should come as no surprise that companies spend a lot of time figuring out how to price their
products and services. But two professors in Wharton s marketing department, Jagmohan S. Raju and
Z. John Zhang, say firms do not always go about pricing ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
You have to lay out the scenarios: If I do this, the competition will react a certain way. If the
competition doesn t react that way, then you have to have another plan ready. You cannot afford to fall
behind your competition. Pricing can be thought of in any number of ways. One approach is a simple
cost plus strategy: You figure out what it costs to produce an item and tack on a nice profit margin.
Another approach is to conduct research to determine what customers are willing to pay for your
product ($200 for a tiny bottle of perfume, for example) and set the price accordingly. Another method
is competition based pricing, whereby a company figures out what its competitors are charging, then
adjusts its prices up or down. All of these approaches make some sense, but none alone is sufficient,
says Zhang. With pricing strategies, the whole really is greater than the sum of its parts. A classic
example of how developing the right pricing strategy can spell the difference between profit
mediocrity and profit stardom occurred at Ford Motor in the 1990s. For years, Ford, like other auto
makers, tried to hold prices as low as possible on entry level cars, such as Escorts. Low prices
represented an attempt to attract young buyers, with the hope that as they grew older and needed
bigger vehicles they would remain loyal to

The Causes of Altruism Essay
How do humans actually behave when faced with the decision to help others? The innate desire that
compels humans to help is called altruism by psychologists. Through this feeling, humans transform
from a selfish jerk to a more compassionate and caring person. Some psychologists believe that this
feeling stems from nature itself. Despite the fact that some altruistic acts originate from the pressures
of society, altruism predominantly comes from the survival of the fittest, the feeling of empathy, and
the selfish desire to benefit your own kin.
Before a case can be made for the causes of altruism, altruism itself must first be defined. Most
leading psychologists agree that the definition of altruism is a motivational state with ... Show more

Because death is the ultimate sacrifice, as it is the most complete and permanent change , no action
that directly leads to death can possess selfish influences (White, 233). We want not only for ourselves
to succeed, but for the entire species to exist peacefully.
Altruistic acts are often seen through the benevolent acts of family members express towards each
other on a regular basis. Because of the significant amount of genes we share with our kin, the
survival of a family is prioritized equally to the survival of the individual. Each member of the family
will therefore behave altruistically towards each other, due to the evolutionary drive for survival. The
reason that parents behave this altruistically towards their offspring is because parents (adults) are in a
maximally favorable position to dispense inexpensive aid to offspring (eggs) that maximally
resembles the parents genetically (Alexander, 462). Even through altruism is perhaps highest between
family members, people also feel more empathetic towards others who possess similar traits, as a large
number of genes are share. As altruism involves a loss of individual fitness, [it] can evolve only by
group selection (Nunney, 228). Therefore, we can see that nature s force of the survival of the group is
a primary driving factor for the appearance of altruism.
Lastly, another definitive explanation for natural

Drug Abuse ( Polysubstance ) Essay
On the 10/05/2016, I took care of a 29 year old female who has been on admission since 09/24/2016.
EMS found her in a ditch intubated her (ETT), mechanical ventilated, and brought her to the hospital.
The patient informed me that police tried to stop her and her boyfriend but her boyfriend refused to

drugs at the age of 12. In addition, she is homeless, and her mom died when she was very young.
Furthermore, her past medical and surgical histories are type 1 diabetes, ADHD, depression, anxiety,

The American Colonies
There were many reasons why colonists would have decided to go to the colonies. Whichever region
they had chosen to live in had a different impact on them compared to the other regions, but still
changed them for the better, most at least. A portion of colonists were afraid of traveling to the New
World because of the possible dangers of natives. However in the colonies religious freedom, land,
and the riches that lie beneath were tempting for many, therefore the colonists had many motivations
to go and develop something new in the New World. Land may have been the overall reason for
colonists to leave England and head over to the colonies. What was the number one thing a colonists
needed to begin anything for themselves? Land. In England most colonists were peasants to the highly
wealthy with large farming areas. They were incapable of buying any land for themselves because of
its usual high prices which made it a lot harder for them to start something on their own, forcing them
to stay with the rich. What other choice would they have made when the great offer of cheap land was
right across the Atlantic. Go straight for it before their chance was taken away. Duh. Some colonists
even got their land for free by a colony. Once they had bought or received land, they finally took their
chance and made their own farms. This resulted in colonists producing more vegetables and food of
all kinds which had meant more money was being made by them. Which was one of

Paul urges in 1 Corinthians 14:39 40 that speaking in tongues should not be forbidden, and be done in
order. Brand, Draper and England add in their commentary, There is no compelling reason to believe
that ecstatic utterance is the same thing as the Biblical gift of tongues. (1606). There exists no
restriction for personal prayer (1 Corinthians 14:18 19), however should not be used in public places
without an interpreter, as mentioned in 1 Corinthians 14:28. This would compromise the edifying
design for unbelievers. Much controversy has been raised over 1 Corinthians 13 and what is said to be
valid . Those negating the validity of speaking in tongues typically use 1 Corinthians 13:8 10 as the
basis for their argument. However, the verse is comparing eternal with temporal things. This is Paul s
way of emphasizing peace in abiding things (like faith, hope and love) versus division for the sake of
the tongues controversy to the church (Smith). Verse 10 also brings about the discussion of what Paul
refers to as perfect . Even though, those belonging to the Negative School argue that which is perfect
is to be the full canon of the Bible, there is nothing that suggests that the Holy Spirit will stop moving
through this gift. When moving down to verse 12, it speaks of the time that the bride of Christ shall

History of Cellphone
History of Cell Phones The history of mobile phones records the development of interconnection
between the public switched telephone systems to radio transceivers. From the earliest days of
transmitting speech by radio, connection of the radio system to the telephone network had obvious
benefits of eliminating the wires. Early systems used bulky, high power consuming equipment and
supported only a few conversations at a time, with required manual set up of the interconnection.
Today cellular technology and microprocessor control systems allow automatic and pervasive use of
mobile phones for voice and data. The transmission of speech by radio has a long and varied history

In 1969 Amtrak equipped commuter trains along the 225 mile New York Washington route with
special pay phones that allowed passengers to place telephone calls while the train was moving. The
system re used six frequencies in the 450 MHZ band in nine sites, a precursor of the concept later
applied in cellular telephones. [2] In December 1971, AT T submitted a proposal for cellular service to
the Federal Communications Commission (FCC). After years of hearings, the FCC approved the
proposal in 1982 forAdvanced Mobile Phone System (AMPS) and allocated frequencies in the 824
894 MHz band.[6] Analog AMPS was eventually superseded by Digital AMPS in 1990. A cellular
telephone switching plan was described by Fluhr and Nussbaum in 1973,[7] and a cellular telephone
data signaling system was described in 1977 by Hachenburg et al.[8] In 1979 a U.S. Patent 4,152,647
was issued to Charles A. Gladden and Martin H. Parelman, of Las Vegas for an emergency cellular
system for rapid deployment in areas where there was no cellular service. Emergence of commercial
mobile phone service Alongside the early developments outlined above, a different technology was
also growing in popularity. Two way mobile radios (known as mobile rigs) were used in vehicles such
as taxicabs, police cruisers, and ambulances, but were not mobile phones, because they were not
connected to the telephone network. The first fully automated mobile phone system for vehicles was
launched in Sweden in 1960. Named

Asian history
China was the most powerful maritime force for almost three decades during the 14th century. The
world recognized the Chinese for their fine artisan skills, which included creating stunning porcelains
and silks. They also had great marine navigation skills, vast knowledge in astronomy and advanced
firepower technology. Before the Ming Dynasty, the Yi citizens of China involuntarily stopped
working on the land, hence had to seek for alternatives in the sea for survival. A century before
Columbus plus his allied Europeans started their entry into the Modern World, seven voyages of
massive castoffs commanded by the eunuch Zheng He ventured through the China Seas to East Africa,
throughout Korea and Japan. This occurred between 1405 and 1433, during the reign of Zhu Di. Using
their skills, they conquered the forces around the Indian Ocean, making China the naval ruler. In the

Tree Ecology In Battle Park

Tree ecology on two slopes in Battle Park
Introduction
Forest communities like Battle Park have different environmental factors within their area. On
different slopes, depending on the direction it is facing, the soil and area could be wetter or drier. This
study is looking to see if the north facing and south facing sites have differences in basal area, density,
species richness, and diversity. Also, there may be some similarities in the area since both are from the
same park.
Much of the forest in Battle Park predates European settlement that occurred in the area around 1740
(North Carolina Botanical Garden 2014). Battle Park is a forest of continuity which means that it is a
good representation of an old growth forest (Vandermast, personal communication). It has some
invasive species, but many of the large trees growing there have remained untouched. The area was
never cut down for human use, but some of the fallen logs were used for firewood (Vandermast,
personal communication). Much of the other areas in the piedmont have had significant changes in the
forest cover, changes in species, and mortality. The forest cover is steadily decreasing at a 7% rate
while the mortality of trees ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
To see the differences of the two sites, basal area, density, species richness, and the Shannon diversity
index were used. Basal area and density is the average amount of space of trees in hectares. Basal area
is taken using the tree diameters while density uses the number of trees. Species richness is the
number of species found. Abundance of each species is used to find the Shannon diversity index. The
Sorensen similarity index compares the areas based on the number of the same species. Also, different
species were looked at to find the relative basal area, relative density, and importance value of the
trees. There were differences and similarities in both

Volunteer Training Corps Research Paper
What did meet with considerable success was the formation of local Volunteer Training Corps . We
have become very familiar with the BBC Television programme Dad s Army based on the exploits of
the Home Guard during the Second World War. What is not so well known is that almost a quarter of a
century earlier, there was a similar organisation formed during the 1914 1918 War.
These Volunteer Training Corps (VTCs) were formed all over Britain and consisted mainly of men
who were rather too old for military service and those who suffered from some trivial medical
disability. Rules were set in London by the Central Association of Volunteer Training Corps
(C.A.V.T.C.) and in late 1914 some corps were formed into county regiments. One of ... Show more

Characteristics Of Mrs Dalloway
1. The (American spelling) focalizer in the selection you read from Mrs. Dalloway changes at least
eight times. Time also moves forward when the focalizer changes. How does Woolf create those
changes? What leads us from one focalizer to another? Find three examples. Woolf uses multiple
focalizers in Mrs. Dalloway to create a new point of view in the story. Woolf indicates these changes
through subtle transitions that are hardly noticed at, as the story shifts to another viewpoint of a
character. Sometimes we are lead between focalizers in ways, such as at the beginning of Mrs.
Dalloway when Clarissa begins to transition into the past reminiscing. This is shown through subtle
changes in tense that Woolf uses, as she switches from present ... Show more content on

One issues that was mentioned in the historical material was the idea of sexuality, as it stated
Sexuality of all stripes was on trial (1936). Homosexuality was something not yet discussed openly at
this time, so it was a new concept for sexuality to be talked about in literature. Woolf was more open
about sexuality in Mrs. Dalloway and it was mentioned about Clarissa Dalloway s daughter, Elizabeth.
Mrs. Dalloway comments that her daughter is fond of two things, her dog and Miss Kilman. Mrs.
Dalloway suspects that Elizabeth has feelings for Miss Kilman, though Mr. Dalloway thinks it to be
only a phase (2343). Mrs. Dalloway feels that it is more than a phase and says It might be falling in
love (2343). In the end of this discussion, Mrs. Dalloway concludes she would have loved Miss
Kilman! But not in this world. No. (2343). This line signifies a lot about the issue and thoughts about
homosexuality and sexuality in general. Homosexuality was not an accepted idea in society during this
time, though it was becoming talked about more. As in Mrs. Dalloway, sexuality is a taboo subject and
is being put on trial by members of

Paying Pirate Demands Essay
When many people think of pirates they think of the fictitious Hollywood films that depict the
animated characters that have shaped our perception of pirates today. The reality of the situation is that
pirates are very real and have emerged as a major threat to the maritime industry as well as ship
owners and national economies alike. Although the threat of piracy has yet to receive the attention that
many feel it deserves, piracy has increasingly affected the way in which the maritime industry
conducts business with other countries in many ways. Piracy not only affects the involved nations
both economically and politically, it also contributes to ship owners overall cost structures as well as
day to day operations. We will discuss ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
When very few measures to defend against piracy are implemented, it simply encourages piracy
across the world because there is essentially less risk associated with it. Due to the attractiveness of
piracy, there has been an overall trend of a drastically increasing amount of pirate attacks and
attempts. In the year 2000, worldwide piracy attacks that were reported to the International Maritime
Bureau totaled 469 separate incidents, which was an increase of 56% when compared to the previous
year s figures (Rosenberg). This graph by David Rosenberg visually depicts this trend of an
exponential increase in piracy reporting from 1978 2000: Although laws do exist, such as the U.S. Led
Resolution 1851, that deem piracy illegal and authorize states and governments to take action against
pirate attacks, they have been very ineffective in deterring pirate attacks (Alessi, 2012). As the
government led initiatives are ineffective in preventing piracy from occurring, ship owners are faced
with very tough ethical decisions when determining how to mitigate risk associated with pirate
attacks. Many of the questions they face tackle issues of whether or not to reroute their shipments to
avoid the pirating hot spots, how they can best train and protect their crew to keep them safe, and if
they do become victim of a pirate attack, is it best to pay the ransom to the

Blood Vessels Of The Body Form A Closed Delivery System
Blood vessels of the body form a closed delivery system that begins and ends at the heart. There are
three major types of blood vessels: arteries, veins, and capillaries. If any of those arteries or veins
become damaged or blocked, you ll be at risk of developing heart disease, heart attack or stroke. It s
important that you do all you can to take care of your circulatory system, and exercise is an invaluable
tool that can help you keep the road to a long and healthy life free and clear.
A healthy diet is a major factor in many health issues, on such type of health issue is when the arteries
or blood vessels have a build up or harden. Diets that include fruits and vegetables, five servings or
more, as well as low fat starches and healthy proteins with the addition of healthy fats will go a long
way to keeping your blood vessels in healthy shape. Eating healthy foods as well as watching your
calorie intake will not only keep your weight at a healthy level but will help keep your blood vessels
clear and functioning at their best. (1)
Coronary artery disease is a condition in which the inside of the artery is narrowed by a buildup of
atherosclerotic plaque (comprised of cholesterol and calcium deposits) between the inside lining of the
artery and the smooth muscle layer. Symptoms of coronary artery disease are generally not felt until
the plaque reduces the artery opening by 75%. People who do not engage in strenuous exercise may

Paul Lance Murder Case
The case is jerry murdered by paul lance may 22nd 2003. This case will be about paul how he didn t
know what he was doing as he saw the Vulture eye . I will show you in this case how paul was insane
as he killed him that night of may 22nd 2003.
He did not know what he was doing as you can see when he say s, He loved the old man... , but it was,
...it was his eye had a eye of a vulture. As you can see he said it for himself that he loved the old man
also saying in this quote, He had never wronged me. Never given me a insult. For his gold I had no
desire. So he s saying that he would not hurt the old man but kill the eye. But he didn t just kill jerry

Then he said when he killed jerry, he ripped off his limbs or his legs and arms also the head while
killing jerry. I cut off the head and the arms and the legs. When he killed jerry you prob think he
would disagree of what he did but he didn t he knew what he did because of the Vulture eye . Also
when he killed jerry he said, I then took up three planks from the flooring of the chamber, and
deposited all between the scantlings. I then replaced the boards so cleverly, so cunningly, that no
human eye not even his could have detected anything wrong. There was nothing to wash out no stain
of any kind no blood spot whatever.
So now you know that the reason he was killed jerry. First because he didn t know what he was doing
like him laughing or killing him by cutting every limb off. The other reason is because he wouldn t
just kill the guy because he didn t like him it was because of the vulture eye and there wasn t a vulture
eye was just a eye but he didn t think so. So he had to kill him for that reason also the last reason was
because he would stare at the eye all night at 12 midnight every day for a week then he killed

A Comparison Of Japanese Colonialism InThe Man In The High...
The Man in the High Castle presents a colonized and divided the United States that belongs to
Germany, Japan, and a buffer zone. Philip Dick states that the Japanese colonizers have a reflection of
the western ideals and values. The Japanese mimicked the American culture by developing an interest
in talking English and improvement of their social status. Japanese adopted the American culture and
acquired American historical objects while retaining their customs and attitudes. The Japanese
occupying the region transform San Francisco into a third world America. The High Castle owned by
the Japanese colonialists because of romantic notions it developed its own attitudes, history, and
culture. Childan develops American ideals but he ironically condemns the Japanese for not
understanding and appreciating the real meaning of America. The paper argues against Childan
perception on Japanese failing to understand America because of lack of common ground.
Childan understands the American culture and history which he primarily uses his arts and crafts.
Childan makes American antiques and sells them in the High Castle occupied by Japanese
administrators. It is not ironic that the Japanese failed to understand the real America. The Japanese
understood the American customs because they parasitized the American way of life. Childan
prejudiced against America because of his weak sense of history (Dick, 338). Childan personally fails
to understand about his country and the Japanese on the other hand ape the American customs and
history. As stated by Dick, Childan himself doesn t know about America but the Japanese do because
of developing an interest in the country (338). The Japanese understands the version and uniqueness
of America and not as how Childan perceives their understanding.
Childan claims base on the colonization by Japanese who occupy the region and keep the zone
underdeveloped. However, the thinking that Japanese do not understand the real America is bias. The
Japanese use the effort and money to simulate the American culture and historical objects (Dick, 335).
The ability to imitate and simulate the customs, attitude and culture of the Americans indicates that the
Japanese understand the real America.

Urinary Incontinence in Dogs
If your dog is unable to control their ability to hold their urine until they re outside, they re probably
suffering from urinary incontinence. A small amount of urine will start to drip from the vulva or
urethra during pets nap or while they sleep. In a female dog, estrogen has an impacting result, giving
strength to the muscular tissue of the bladder. Within the male dog, testosterone as estrogen has an
impact result as well. Everything that decreases or increases the levels of those hormones also consists
of inability in holding urine.
As a dog ages, the function of those hormones on they re own decrease. The hormone responsive
incontinence happens with neutered dogs male and female and sometimes in spayed cats but it is more
often seen in female dogs. The pet may urinate normally, but they leak urine when resting or sleeping.
Hormone responsive incontinence can occur later on after a pet is neutered. Once in a blue moon, the
inability to control urine can happen in younger animals due to congenital anatomic abnormalities.
Birth defects cause incontinence in young animals which is rare. If only one or both of the ureters by
pass the bladder and also connect to a wrong place as the urethra or vagina, the young pup will drip
urine. A least common cause is a condition called Vulvo Vaginal Stenosis where the vagina or the level
where the urethra ends is narrowed. Once in a while urinating, some urine will get stuck in the vagina

Analysis Of The Film A Few Good Men
Humanity can be defined as quality of being human; the peculiar nature of man, by which he is
distinguished from other beings. Being human does not mean that an individual possesses humanity.
Humans can be set apart from other living beings by, their ability to reason out whether a decision is
either wrong or right using their conscience, their ability to create relationships that can hold a similar
value to that of biological relationships, and despite having a capacity for sin, humans are still good.
In the film A Few Good Men, three lawyers are left with a case, where two Marines on Guantanamo
Bay have been convicted of murdering a fellow comrade. This film clearly showed as to what it means
to be human. Through the film, the audience ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Likewise, Lieutenant Daniel Kaffee, who was the defense Lawyer for both Dawson and Downey, was
a man who was in great need of emotional guidance from other people. During the trial period, Kaffee
was left dumbfounded on whether the case should be fought on or if it was time to step back. His
defense partners were Lieutenant Commander JoAnne Galloway and Lieutenant Sam Weinberg, two
individuals that helped in removing Kaffee from his old shell and putting him into a new one. While
Kaffee was ready to abandon Dawson and Downey s case, Galloway made him realize that. Being in
connection with others is a requirement for any living being, but if these relationships prevent a person
from doing good, then they should not be given such importance. Similarly, to bad relationships,
unwanted rules and conditions are also very bad for a person s conscience.
Rules and conditions that go against a person s moral values and conscience are also tremendously
bad since it can become very difficult for a person to realize as to which rules are deemed acceptable,
as we are taught from an early age to follow all rules and order. Therefore, as seen in the film, the
rules put in place by the commanding officers of Lance Corporal Dawson and Private Downey
directly conflicted with their abilities to comprehend moral values and damaged the

  • 2. China s Second Hand Trade Essay 2.1 General Introduction Second hand trades have been growing rapidly in the past __ years. The second hand industry grew at about 7% a year in 2014 and 2015, according to the National Association of Resale Professionals (Narts). Second hand luxury goods, in particularly, has become a unique segment standing out among the rest of second hand products. While companies like The Real Real and What Goes Around Comes Around (WGACA) have been successfully enticed U.S. customers to sell and buy second hand luxury, they might have left another huge group of potential customers behind international college students from China, who carry a stack of cash to the US each year and share a strong enthusiasm towards luxury brands at a young age like most middle class Chinese. This study intends to focus on Chinese students studying in the US, their culturally specific motivations and concerns for shopping second hand luxury so as to provide insights for local second hand stores to better attract them as potential customers. 2.2 Development of Second hand Stores The second hand trade started during the 14th century in Europe when new garments were too expensive to afford for the majority (Frick, 2005). While we were there Lincoln s monument was not very crowded, which we were thankful for. At the monument we took pictures with Lincoln and stood and looked back at what Lincoln had done in his lifetime. It was at his monument that we also realized how much Lincoln deserved the biggest monument money could buy. His Aeneid can be considered a national epic of Rome and has been extremely popular from its publication to the present day. Virgil Beatrice sends Virgil to Earth to retrieve Dante and act as his guide through Hell and Purgatory. Since the poet Virgil lived before Christianity, he dwells in Limbo (Ante Inferno) with other righteous non Christians. Moreover, as the consummate speaker and writer of Latin the ancestor language of Italian Virgil is, in a sense, the fore father of Dante s native language. The two poets kinship traces back to their respective languages. Virgil and Language As much as Dante wants the title of world s greatest poet, Virgil, it seems, has that honor. In Crime and Punishment, Dostoevsky explores contrasting ways of response to adversity. In the novel, there are those who don t commit crimes while facing the hardships of life, like Sonia, Lizaveta, and Mikolka. Those like Raskolnikov, however, try to change the elements of life that provide challenges by taking drastic measures to modify society and life: by murdering an opportunist pawnbroker in his case. When reading Crime and Punishment, one can see that the difference in one s response to suffering depends on whether or not violence is used. While Raskolnikov uses violence to change his circumstances, other characters respond to the same challenges of life in a way that does not generate violence. Approach to suffering is strictly rooted in the contrasting principles that the characters in the novel posses. Sonia, Lizaveta, and Mikolka s way of life contradicts the principles that Raskolnikov lives by. Raskolnikov, in contrast, views himself as a Napoleonic figure, which takes his fate in his own hands in the beginning of the novel. By presenting these two opposing sides, Dostoevsky shows those who step over the laws to bring change into society and those who don t. Raskolnikov establishes himself as a person who has new ideas. You have to lay out the scenarios: If I do this, the competition will react a certain way. If the competition doesn t react that way, then you have to have another plan ready. You cannot afford to fall behind your competition. Pricing can be thought of in any number of ways. One approach is a simple cost plus strategy: You figure out what it costs to produce an item and tack on a nice profit margin. Another approach is to conduct research to determine what customers are willing to pay for your product ($200 for a tiny bottle of perfume, for example) and set the price accordingly. Another method is competition based pricing, whereby a company figures out what its competitors are charging, then adjusts its prices up or down. All of these approaches make some sense, but none alone is sufficient, says Zhang. With pricing strategies, the whole really is greater than the sum of its parts. A classic example of how developing the right pricing strategy can spell the difference between profit mediocrity and profit stardom occurred at Ford Motor in the 1990s. Through this feeling, humans transform from a selfish jerk to a more compassionate and caring person. Some psychologists believe that this feeling stems from nature itself. Despite the fact that some altruistic acts originate from the pressures of society, altruism predominantly comes from the survival of the fittest, the feeling of empathy, and the selfish desire to benefit your own kin. Because death is the ultimate sacrifice, as it is the most complete and permanent change , no action that directly leads to death can possess selfish influences (White, 233). We want not only for ourselves to succeed, but for the entire species to exist peacefully. Altruistic acts are often seen through the benevolent acts of family members express towards each other on a regular basis. Because of the significant amount of genes we share with our kin, the survival of a family is prioritized equally to the survival of the individual. Each member of the family will therefore behave altruistically towards each other, due to the evolutionary drive for survival. The reason that parents behave this altruistically towards their offspring is because parents (adults) are in a maximally favorable position to dispense inexpensive aid to offspring (eggs) that maximally resembles the parents genetically (Alexander, 462). Even through altruism is perhaps highest between family members, people also feel more empathetic towards others who possess similar traits, as a large number of genes are share. As altruism involves a loss of individual fitness, [it] can evolve only by group selection (Nunney, 228). Whichever region they had chosen to live in had a different impact on them compared to the other regions, but still changed them for the better, most at least. A portion of colonists were afraid of traveling to the New World because of the possible dangers of natives. However in the colonies religious freedom, land, and the riches that lie beneath were tempting for many, therefore the colonists had many motivations to go and develop something new in the New World. Land may have been the overall reason for colonists to leave England and head over to the colonies. What was the number one thing a colonists needed to begin anything for themselves? Land. In England most colonists were peasants to the highly wealthy with large farming areas. They were incapable of buying any land for themselves because of its usual high prices which made it a lot harder for them to start something on their own, forcing them to stay with the rich. What other choice would they have made when the great offer of cheap land was right across the Atlantic. Go straight for it before their chance was taken away. Duh. Some colonists even got their land for free by a colony. Once they had bought or received land, they finally took their chance and made their own farms. This resulted in colonists producing more vegetables and food of all kinds which had meant more money was being made by them. Which was one of ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

There exists no restriction for personal prayer (1 Corinthians 14:18 19), however should not be used in public places without an interpreter, as mentioned in 1 Corinthians 14:28. This would compromise the edifying design for unbelievers. Much controversy has been raised over 1 Corinthians 13 and what is said to be valid . Those negating the validity of speaking in tongues typically use 1 Corinthians 13:8 10 as the basis for their argument. However, the verse is comparing eternal with temporal things. This is Paul s way of emphasizing peace in abiding things (like faith, hope and love) versus division for the sake of the tongues controversy to the church (Smith). Verse 10 also brings about the discussion of what Paul refers to as perfect . Even though, those belonging to the Negative School argue that which is perfect is to be the full canon of the Bible, there is nothing that suggests that the Holy Spirit will stop moving through this gift. • 49. A Comparison Of Japanese Colonialism InThe Man In The High... The Man in the High Castle presents a colonized and divided the United States that belongs to Germany, Japan, and a buffer zone. Philip Dick states that the Japanese colonizers have a reflection of the western ideals and values. The Japanese mimicked the American culture by developing an interest in talking English and improvement of their social status. Japanese adopted the American culture and acquired American historical objects while retaining their customs and attitudes. The Japanese occupying the region transform San Francisco into a third world America. The High Castle owned by the Japanese colonialists because of romantic notions it developed its own attitudes, history, and culture. Childan develops American ideals but he ironically condemns the Japanese for not understanding and appreciating the real meaning of America. The paper argues against Childan perception on Japanese failing to understand America because of lack of common ground. Childan understands the American culture and history which he primarily uses his arts and crafts. Childan makes American antiques and sells them in the High Castle occupied by Japanese administrators. It is not ironic that the Japanese failed to understand the real America. The Japanese understood the American customs because they parasitized the American way of life. Childan prejudiced against America because of his weak sense of history (Dick, 338). Childan personally fails to understand about his country and the Japanese on the other hand ape the American customs and history. As stated by Dick, Childan himself doesn t know about America but the Japanese do because of developing an interest in the country (338). The Japanese understands the version and uniqueness of America and not as how Childan perceives their understanding. Childan claims base on the colonization by Japanese who occupy the region and keep the zone underdeveloped. However, the thinking that Japanese do not understand the real America is bias. The Japanese use the effort and money to simulate the American culture and historical objects (Dick, 335). The ability to imitate and simulate the customs, attitude and culture of the Americans indicates that the Japanese understand the real America. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

A small amount of urine will start to drip from the vulva or urethra during pets nap or while they sleep. In a female dog, estrogen has an impacting result, giving strength to the muscular tissue of the bladder. Within the male dog, testosterone as estrogen has an impact result as well. Everything that decreases or increases the levels of those hormones also consists of inability in holding urine. As a dog ages, the function of those hormones on they re own decrease. The hormone responsive incontinence happens with neutered dogs male and female and sometimes in spayed cats but it is more often seen in female dogs. The pet may urinate normally, but they leak urine when resting or sleeping. Hormone responsive incontinence can occur later on after a pet is neutered. Once in a blue moon, the inability to control urine can happen in younger animals due to congenital anatomic abnormalities. Birth defects cause incontinence in young animals which is rare. If only one or both of the ureters by pass the bladder and also connect to a wrong place as the urethra or vagina, the young pup will drip urine. A least common cause is a condition called Vulvo Vaginal Stenosis where the vagina or the level where the urethra ends is narrowed. Once in a while urinating, some urine will get stuck in the vagina in front of this ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 51. Analysis Of The Film A Few Good Men Humanity can be defined as quality of being human; the peculiar nature of man, by which he is distinguished from other beings. Being human does not mean that an individual possesses humanity. Humans can be set apart from other living beings by, their ability to reason out whether a decision is either wrong or right using their conscience, their ability to create relationships that can hold a similar value to that of biological relationships, and despite having a capacity for sin, humans are still good. In the film A Few Good Men, three lawyers are left with a case, where two Marines on Guantanamo Bay have been convicted of murdering a fellow comrade. This film clearly showed as to what it means to be human. Through the film, the audience ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Likewise, Lieutenant Daniel Kaffee, who was the defense Lawyer for both Dawson and Downey, was a man who was in great need of emotional guidance from other people. During the trial period, Kaffee was left dumbfounded on whether the case should be fought on or if it was time to step back. His defense partners were Lieutenant Commander JoAnne Galloway and Lieutenant Sam Weinberg, two individuals that helped in removing Kaffee from his old shell and putting him into a new one. While Kaffee was ready to abandon Dawson and Downey s case, Galloway made him realize that. Being in connection with others is a requirement for any living being, but if these relationships prevent a person from doing good, then they should not be given such importance. Similarly, to bad relationships, unwanted rules and conditions are also very bad for a person s conscience. Rules and conditions that go against a person s moral values and conscience are also tremendously bad since it can become very difficult for a person to realize as to which rules are deemed acceptable, as we are taught from an early age to follow all rules and order. Therefore, as seen in the film, the rules put in place by the commanding officers of Lance Corporal Dawson and Private Downey directly conflicted with their abilities to comprehend moral values and damaged the ...
