The Catcher in the Rye Rewrite Ending Essay
Writing Activity #4 Rewrite the ending of the story. Anyway, I really did go home after the
carrousel. First, Phoebe and I walked out of the park onto the east side, and took the bus to
Grand Central, to get my goddam Gladstones out of the strong box there. pretty Though it had
stopped pouring out, I was still wet. Boy, it really came down like a madman. I still had Phoebe
s red hunting hat on, it was soaking wet though. I didn t care. All I could think about Phoebe.
Just Phoebe. I m glad we re both going home now, Holden , she said. I m just ready to get this over

She s in the play too. Yes , Susie said, It should be really great . She was so polite. I really liked her.
I usually like Phoebe s friends when I meet them. Watching the two of them helped me get my
mind off of how I was about to face my parents. I was worried about my mom. I really was. I
tried not to think of how hysterical she d get. Phoebe said mom and dad were coming home at
around seven o clock. It was around four o clock now. Soon enough they d come home, see me,
and deal with me. So, we got off the bus at 72nd street, said goodbye to Susie, and walked home.
Phoebe seemed all cheery. Kids don t understand situations like this. I mean, old Phoebe, she did,
but I guess she was just really happy to be with me, and that I was home and all. How are Mr. and
Mrs. Antolini? , she asked me. They re doing pretty good , I said. Of course I would never tell her
what really happened. I still couldn t believe it. It really bothered me. Had he always liked me in
that way? I don t even want to answer that. Really. Anyway, I was so happy to see old Phoebe.
She was about the only friendly person whose company I d enjoyed since I left Pencey Prep. We

Into Thin Air Quest Analysis
Into Thin Air Quest Essay
Q: In what ways is Into Thin Air a typical quest and/or in what ways is it different. Into Thin Air is
a nonfiction book documenting Jon Krakauer s expedition to the summit of Mt Everest. The book
contains aspects that a typical quest story includes: it has one motif, the characters are
inexperienced and learn something about themselves, and the team faces challenges and trials on
route. However the book also differs from a typical quest story because it makes the reader
question morality and many of the main characters die. Into Thin Air has characteristics of both a
quest story and a narrative with a complex allegory. Into Thin Air, similar to a typical quest, has
the theme that personal self reliance is essential to complete a task. In chapter 19 Beck Whethers, a
fellow climber on the expedition has just gotten himself back to camp after being buried in the
snow, and exclaims Finally I ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
However the real reason is different from the stated reason. Krakauer is writing an article for
Outsider Magazine and wants to document the journey while fulfilling a childhood dream to reach
the summit of. Along the way there are various challenges and trials. During the course of the trip
they had to deal with frostbite, a major storm that is fatal to many, and results in having no one to
lead them. Throughout all the ordeals the group faces, only a few get away from the trip
unscathed. The expedition has many inexperienced climbers, Krakauer states Everest has always
been a magnet for kooks, publicity seekers, hopeless romantics and others with a shaky hold on
reality. This quote shows that there are many people who come to climb Everest with very little
experience. These inexperienced climbers contribute to the 16 fatalities on that expedition. Overall
these elements of Into Thin Air are similar to qualities that a quest story would

The international strategy for IKEA is crucial in their expansion strategy, without such a

10 Things I Hate About You And The Taming Of The Shrew
Hello and welcome respected audience of the Shakespeare Society. I would like to start today by
thanking you for allowing me to speak on the topic of how the stereotypical roles of women
have changed and evolved in a positive manner since the Elizabethan era. I will start by defining
a few beneficial terms before discussing how Shakespeare s Taming of the Shrew has been
appropriated by Gil Junger s in the 1999 movie, 10 Things I Hate About You.
To make a modern adaptation of a highly recognised 16th century play, one would have to have a
perfect mix of both similarities and differences between the two, integrating elements from both
eras. Junger, the director of 10 Things I Hate About You has managed to achieve this. By using
many of the same characters and the same plot from Taming of the Shrew, he created a modernised
appropriation of the Shakespeare play that incorporates aspects of teen society. The Taming of the
Shrew and 10 Things I Hate About You are similar in many ways, one way they are different
however is how since the Elizabethan Era the nature and role of women in society has changed
considerably.
The Taming of the Shrew examines the way traditional 16th century notions about gender and its
hierarchy are tested and reinforced in tempestuous relationships. While patriarchy rules supreme at
the plays end, it s vital to consider the constant attempts to undermine the sexist assumptions about a
women s place in marriage. In The Taming of the Shrew gender plays a

The Ill Treatment Of Native Indians
In A Short History of Indians in Canada, Thomas King explores, for the most part, the ill treatment
of Native Indians in Canada. Two satires by the names of Coyote and the Enemy Aliens and
Tidings of Comfort and Joy, focus on the arrogance of the White men and how their actions
affected the society of Native Indians. Specifically, this essay discusses how their actions
contributed to the dehumanization of Native Indians. This concept of Dehumanization is explored
through the hypocrisy on what is legal and illegal according to the White men, the Native Indians
enslaved and treated like wild animals and reduced to being mere possessions of their White
masters .
Firstly, in both these short stories there is a hypocritical view on what is ... Show more content on

Through this quote it is clear that this paper is a legal document that entitles the Coyote to all
the properties of the Japanese Canadians. Is the job more important than being fair? I says (p
56). King once again emphasizes that even though this document is legal and written in the
book of law, it isn t morally correct as it strips the Japanese Canadians of their basic human
rights. The narrator then goes on to question whether or not the White men are doing the right
thing regardless of what the law states. In Tidings of Comfort and Joy, Hudson who represents
the White man has an obsession of gathering Indians as collectibles, a form of enslavement
which is legally allowed however once again is not morally correct. The text states, And while
most everyone had since moved to newer enthusiasms such as exotic pets, rain forest acreages and
internet stocks, Hudson stayed the course and had, over the years, put together one of the more
impressive collections of Indians east of Saskatoon (p 6 7). This quote ridiculously defends
Hudson s obsession of collecting Indians who are humans as being morally correct, compared to
other not so strange obsessions making it seem like a rational thing to do. Through this quote, King
emphasizes that the sole purpose of objectification of Native Indians in this short story is to be
collectible items that can be stored and used as possessions. It had been fun playing with the
Indians, placing them around

Compare And Contrast Star Wars A New Hope And The Outsiders
Star Wars: A New Hope and The Outsiders are not as different as most might expect. The pair of
stories feature many heroes throughout, focusing on Luke Skywalker and Ponyboy Curtis. Both
of these stories were originally books, before being adapted into movies. The Hero s Journey
follows a narrative pattern that applies to nearly every story line there has ever been. The journey
applies to both Star Wars: A New Hope and The Outsiders. The Outsiders by S. E. Hinton follows a
young boy living in rural Oklahoma, who is part of a gang of teenagers called Greasers.
Ponyboy and his friends are constantly up against the opposing social group, the Socials, creating
conflict between the two groups. Star Wars: A New Hope, directed by George Lucas, is one of
the most famous movies of all time, which centers in on an young adult that ends up on a journey
to save Princess Leia and help the Rebellion fight off the Empire. Despite the contrasting genres of
the stories, Luke Skywalkerand Ponyboy Michael Curtis have a similar day to day life, have
comparable aid from others, and face challenges that are very much alike.
The Known World that both characters experience is more analogous than some might think, when
comparing an alien planet to rural Oklahoma. The Known World, being the first step in the hero s
journey, allows the audience to get to know the character and understand their personality and
qualities in depth. Luke Skywalker lives with his uncle and aunt, as he always has. Ponyboy

Spectral Band Replication in Audio Coding
Spectral Band Replication (SBR) is a novel audio spectrum recovery technology, it can greatly
improve the efficiency of perceptual audio coding compression, and thus more suitable for
streaming media applications with limited bandwidth. It will be widely used in the world of digital
broadcasting, the third generation mobile communications, multimedia downloads, video on
demand and other services. SBR use parametric coding technique that involves complex
algorithms; simply take a long time by the hardware circuit design. And this design cannot keep up
with the constant development of audio standards. In other words: When a new standard
integration into the decoder, it takes a long time to complete the new circuit design, the original
method will no longer have a market value. Be achieved only using the software in power
consumption and cost requirements are higher for portable applications with limited competition.
With the increasing complexity and diversity of multimedia signal processing requirements,
hardware and software co design concept has been widely applied to the actual design. The two
main reasons why Spectral Band Replication can fit our needs are: First, SBR is capable of
reproducing the high frequency band by using the correlation information which transmitted along
with the low frequency band. Therefore, we can save the bits which were reserved for coding high
frequency band without actually lost the high frequency signal. Second, it is more

Analysis Of The NFL Draft
New York Jets: What position should they first address in 2018 NFL Draft? With their first pick

Draft experts say this up and coming quarterback class is the best since the 1983 class, which
featured Hall of Famers John Elway, Jim Kelly, and Dan Marino. It is vital that the Jets do so
rather than wait until the later rounds of this particular draft because in the same fashion other
teams are in need at the quarterback position as well. In many mock drafts, experts have an
amazing total of six Quarterbacks, who could be taking in the first round alone. In no particular

State s Christian Hackenberg in the second round. Experts as well as the Jets fanbase were truly
shocked by the pick. Cause many experts didn t even have Hackenberg being drafted. Thus far
both quarterbacks have yet to make any significant impact. Therefore, it is significantly crucial
for the third year GM to select one of this year s highly touted quarterbacks with his very first
pick in the upcoming 2018 draft which will be held in April 26 28 at AT T Stadium in Arlington
Texas. I really feal that this is the draft gang green will indeed land themselves a franchise, high

Roxana As A Woman
By being a femme seule and being a mistress, although Roxana hates having to be a mistress
because she considers it immoral, Roxana was sexually liberated and had a job. Roxana had
control over both her body and finances once she was no longer married or indebted, as society
saw it, to a man. These two facts alone lead me to believe that Roxana can and should be
considered an eighteenth century feminist icon even though I believe she would have chosen a
different vocation if she had had the opportunity. In the article titled, I wou d be a Man Woman :
Roxana s Amazonian Threat to the Ideology of Marriage, author Shawn Lisa Maurer writes,
Despite her powerful arguments for female liberty, Roxana does not begin the novel as a fierce and
independent woman. [...] Roxana is an Amazon made rather than born. Not an inherent or inherited
disposition but rather the harrowing events of her early life a bad marriage, with subsequent
bankruptcy and desertion have propelled her (Maurer, 367). Roxana became a mistress due to
circumstances beyond her control, and furthermore, as Christina L. Healey points out in her article
titled, A perfect Retreat indeed : Speculation, Surveillance, and Space in Defoe s Roxana, The novel
s focus on domestic spaces and figures women who become the victims of bad business deals and
who cope with their victimization by transforming themselves into women of business links the
nation s economic conditions and concerns with domestic instability.

Communism And Communism Essay
China and Oceania are strikingly similar to each other. However, both countries are ruled by two
different political ideologies. To this day in China, the government organizes themselves under the
Communist party. Communism is, in theory, a classless society in which all wealth and property
are owned by the community as a whole, although in reality, there are few variations of this
definition as every society is different. Every building and plot of land is owned by the community.
The true goal of communismis to have a society without rulers, but Mao Zedong forged his own

A totalitarian government is own that is ruled by a single party, has total control of the military

exerts their control over Oceania by limiting the products in society: At any given moment there

We wanted to widen options for ourselves, and later our children. These are the words of Earnest
Green, the first African American student to graduate from Central High School in Little Rock,
Arkansas. Earnest Green, along with eight other African American students, was a part of what was
nicknamed the Little Rock Nine, the group that integrated Central High, an all white public school
in Arkansas. This integration was a result of the Brown v. Board of Education ruling, which said
segregation of black and white students in schools, was unconstitutional. These nine students

On September 4th, 1957, Governor Faubus ordered the Arkansas National Guard to Little Rock
Central High school, preventing any of the Little Rock Nine from entering Central High.
Elizabeth Eckford was the only student that went to school on this day because of a lack of
communication with the other students. She arrived at the school alone and was antagonized
by the angry mob. At first she felt reassured when she saw the troops, whom she assumed were
there to protect her...When she tried to squeeze past a guard, He raised his bayonet, and then the
other guards moved in. One can only imagine what Eckford felt like, being completely alone in a
mob of people screaming Lynch her! , only to realize the people you thought were there to
protect you were actually not. The students finally were able to enter the school on September
23rd, 1957. But the fight was not over. The Little Rock Nine continued to face extreme
harassment, both physical and verbal. Melba Pattillo recounted many of these incidents in her
book, Warriors Don t Cry. One that stuck out the most was when she recounted going to
bathroom, the one place her guard could not join her, and having girls scratch and giggle outside
the door. She writes, I promised myself I would drink less water so I wouldn t have to take that
risk so often. Her stories of the vulgar language and the harassment when the guard was or wasn t
around, shows the extreme condition she faced trying to make a charge for her generation. She
compares her experience in Central High to being soldier, just trying to survive. Another factor that
created this environment for the Little Rock Nine was the lack of discipline of students by teachers.
Pattillo writes about how her friend Minnijean Brown had faith in school officials, faith that they
would step in. She continued to count on them to respond with compassion to

The Three Primary Phases Of The Water Cycle
July 20, 2016
The Water Cycle All living things must have water to maintain homeostasis. In order for there to
water to replenish there is a cycle known as the water cycle. The water cycle has many different
names such as the hydrologic cycle and the H2O cycle. There are three primary phases in the water
cycle: evaporation, condensation, and precipitation. The water cycle is continuous process in which
some phases of the cycle may take longer than some depending in the geographical location any
person or animal lives. Figure 1 demonstrates the different phases of the water cycle. Figure 1: The

Water storage can be either fresh water or salt water. Ground water is where there is just a body
of water, or water that is on the ground. Also water storage does not have to be in liquid form. It
can be found in snow, ice, or glaciers. When one of the solid forms of water melts it is called run
off water. When run off water runs into a water storage it will evaporate at some point in the future.
Condensation
Condensation is the process by which water vapor in the air is changed back in to liquid water.
Condensation is crucial to the water cycle because is responsible for the formation of clouds.
Precipitation
The final step in the water cycle is precipitation. Precipitation is when water is released from
clouds in the form of rain, acid rain, sleet, snow, or hail. It is the primary connection in the water
cycle that provides for the delivery of atmospheric water to the earth. The most common type of
precipitation is rain.
Acid Rain
Acid rain is caused by emissions of sulfur dioxide and nitrogen oxide, which react with the water
molecules in the atmosphere to produce acids.

How Social And Political Procedures Affects Resilience At...
This paper has demonstrated and examines how series of social and political procedure affects
resilience at various spatial scales. Resilience is defined as the ability of individuals or
communities to withstand and rebound from sudden natural disaster [earthquake, flood or
hurricane] that accounts for the loss of life and properties. However, the definition of resilience
is broad as resilience thinkers [Charles Holling and Neil Adger] have argued differently. For
example, Holling defines resilience as the ability of a system to absorb change of state variable,
driving variables, and parameters, and still persist (Holling, 1973), while Adger, defines resilience
as the ability of groups or communities to cope with external stresses and disturbances as a result
of social, political and environmental change (Adger, 2000). Understandably, thinker like Adger and
Holling as Climate Changethinkers within the academic space have a different opinion to what
constitutes the impact of climatechange and best possible approaches needed towards building
resilience within social and political frameworks.
This paper argues prevalently that, resilience is shaped by social and political discourse
emphasizing on vulnerability and climate change adaptation methods such as Livelihood and
Economic Diversification (LED) and Community based adaptation (CBA). The essay further argues
that resilience is debated at multi levels [local, state, and global] but global policy makers often

Bourgeoisie By Karl Marx
Karl Marx, a historian and political theorist, believed that there would be a great revolution
involving the proletariat, or working class who sell their labor, and the bourgeoisie, who control the
means of production. Because the bourgeoisie controlled the means of production, the proletariat
were under the control of the bourgeoisie, and had to sell their labor even though the work was
alienating to them. Working in factories was the only job they could land, but were forced to do so
to survive. The actions of the bourgeoisie and proletariat prove
Marx s idea that everything done in society is for capital gains, or money. Marx proposed that the
proletariat would rise up and all would become one class, working together for the society.

Why Is Nuclear Waste Bad For The Environment
Lately it seems as if if the Earth has been deteriorating. It is quite common to hear of the impact
of the overuse of energy sources. Because our population has abused the wonderful powers of
energy, the Earth is suffering from the aftermath. Environmental damage being one of its biggest
consequences. The use of energy can have positive effects if society learns how to manage it well.
While nuclear energy can generate plenty of electricity, it can easily be abused. Nuclear energy
plants can unfortunately be preferred targets for terrorists, also producing nuclear waste. Nuclear
waste is bad for the environment because it requires a dumping ground due to the fact that it cannot
be processed. If this continues, there will eventually be no more

ABSTRACT: A rapid and massive movement of tourists within a shorter span of tourist season
puts a heavy pressure on tourist resources. The usage of tourist attractions is likely to be damaged
beyond repair and their life span may even get shortened. In the absence of innovations or added
sources of recreation, the regional tourism soon reaches its saturation point. If such a plateau stage
of tourism gets prolonged, it starts cutting short the prolong stay of tourists. Some of them may
not like to repeat their visits or may go elsewhere. Innovations must be talked about to pass over
this stage. Encouragement of interstate package tours inclusive of the provision of budget
accommodation at the wayside prime halting spots becomes obligatory. Only a National Policy
can tackle the national level natural disaster which adversely affects tourism over very extensive
areas. A regional policy has to take up a number of measures to avoid overcrowding at tourist
places and saving them from deterioration even by co opting private enterprise in the form of
investments in socio religious voluntary services.

Many auditors were too busy checking to see if they were using their merger related accounting
to see if they were showing false inflation ratings instead of looking at their internal books and
seeing they were approving loans within the company to executives that were basically using the
company as their own personal bank. Kozlowski went to great lengths to keep outside directors
from becoming aware of how their business dealings were going within the company. It became
clear that he was taking care of the directors within his circle when some were receiving $20
million annually for their fees and he was creating bonuses that were outrageously high

bonuses including houses that were paid for by the company and affording luxurious items
amongst home dГ©cor and even extravagant parties that were all footed under the companies bill.
They were also accused of giving themselves loans through the company and then forgiving them
to avoid payment back to the company. They were able to do this by keeping the amount of
internal audits at a minimum and overstepping the their legal department and forging their own
documents with the SEC. They were also accused of selling stocks and manipulating the stock
price to make the stocks sell at an elevated price. Kozlowski was initially

Marginalization Of Felons In Michelle Alexander s The New Jim
With no doubt, mass incarceration has produced broken people from a broken system. What breaks
the heart even more is knowing that there are collateral consequences that follow these ex prisoners
throughout the rest of their life. Those who come out of the incarcerated system struggle to get
back on their feet due to discrimination. Marginalization of felons can be found anywhere
specifically in jobs, housing, and even in debt that they cannot afford. Iris Marian Young introduces
the birdcage metaphor, where one wire of the cage represents racism. However, there are many
wires that create racism, and each of them have different approaches in keeping the bird, or the
disadvantaged, trapped in the cage. Michelle Alexander s book, The New Jim... Show more content

Simply, being labeled a felon restricts the individual from several aspects in life. Alexander
states that they are unable to drive, get a job, find housing, or even qualify for public benefits,
[they] lose their children, their dignity, and eventually their freedom (143). Felons are
marginalized from society. They are unable to obtain resources to help themselves due to
collateral consequences. Particularly, under the category of collateral consequences, finding a
job in order to support themselves financially is a challenge. When applying for a job, felons are
usually avoided in the pool of applicants. Before they even check the box that signifies that they
are a felon, the concept of legal discrimination is applied to the surface. Alexander introduces the
strategy of the negative credential in the job market. Employers are legally allowed to
discriminate people from being employed based on criminal status and skin color. Black men
who have not committed crimes have the same chance of being rejected as those who have
committed one. Before considering on hiring, employers have a preconceived image about
black men being criminals, even if one has a clean record. The metaphor that Young uses about
the birdcage becomes parallel to one of the aspects of the collateral consequences, which is legal
discrimination in the job market. Alexander uses a boxed in analogy for a job application for
felons, and Young s metaphor of being stuck in one place, hence the birdcage being a box, aligns
with Alexander s vision. With discrimination on a criminal status towards black men, it is difficult
to find a job. Without a job, they cannot support themselves in the world because there are only so
many options. Considering that they also come out of prison with almost nothing, the societal level
they are in progresses lower as time goes on. With no money, they are unable

A Brief Note On Unfair Taxing Of Food
Unfair Taxing of Food Miraaj Pirali Houston Baptist University Food is a necessity. People must
eat to stay alive. However, what people eat is completely up to them. There are people that prefer
to eat healthy and stay fit, and then there are those that that prefer an unhealthy and sedentary
lifestyle. Those that lead an unhealthy lifestyle tend to eat foods high in fats, sugars, and unhealthy
chemicals. Foods such as these cause obesity and other health related problems. There are many
ideas that have been thrown out to keep people from eating unhealthy. One of these ideas is; to
encourage healthy eating, higher taxes should be imposed on soft drinks and junk food. While
looking at the bigger picture, one will realize that this... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This may be true, however, one should consider the fact that the low income families cannot
afford to buy any other healthy alternatives either. Consequently, this puts low income families in
a hole. They could not afford healthy alternatives to begin with and now they cannot afford junk
food and soft drinks either. Raising taxes on junk food and soft drinks may also leave low
income consumers with insufficient fronds to purchase other basic necessities (Pratt, 2013).
Raising taxes on food is not only heartless; it is also unethical because they are being deprived of
an essential need. (Frank et al. 2013) Taxing junk foods and soft drinks affects more than just the
people buying them; it also affects the companies selling them. Increasing the price of unhealthy
foods is likely to reduce overall consumption (Badilas, 2011). There are many different
companies that are responsible for producing junk food and soft drinks. If taxes are raised for all
junk foods and soft drinks, then there is a high probability that the public will stop buying certain
items. If this does happen, then that specific item people stop buying can cause the company
producing it to go out of business. This could be multiple companies or just one. Whether if it s
one or multiple companies going out of business, there certainly is an issue here. This will
definitely cause an

The Struggle in Chaim Potok s My Name is Asher Lev Essay
If you were a genius in mathematics, I would understand. If you were a genius in writing, I would
also understand. If you were a genius in Gemorra, I would certainly understand. But a genius in
drawing is foolishness, and I will not let it interfere with our lives. Do you understand me, Asher?
(Potok 136). The struggle begins for young Asher Lev, a talented artist who tries to convince his
father and the rest of his family of his artistic ability, when his father refuses to recognize his talent.
Set in a tightly knitted Jewishcommunity in Brooklyn, Chaim Potok successfully depicted a young
boytorn between his orthodox Jewish tradition and his passion for art in his best seller My Name

Instead of compromising with his son, Aryeh Lev becomes very bitter about his son s
persistence to prove him wrong. Every man is responsible for what he does, because he has a
will and by that will he directs his life (169). Aryeh also felt that his son s gift must have come
from the Other Side after witnessing his son s paintings that featured nudes and portraits of
Jesus. Their struggle became so great as to strain their relationship to a breaking point. Listen to
me, Asher. This will stop. You will fight it. Or I will force you to return to Vienna with me after
the summer. Better you should stay in Vienna and be a little crazy than you should stay in New
York and become a goy ( Potok 169). In the end, Aryeh Lev s futile attempt to stop Asher came out
sounding like a threat to his only son.
His father was not the only authoritative figure Asher struggled with. His mother, Rivkeh, was also
extremely weary of his behavior. She would try to talk to Asher but Asher would be so focused on
his art that he would not hear her speak. In the end, she gave in to Asher and ruined her relationship
with her husband. Asher also struggled with his mythic ancestor. He would have nightmares about
his mythic ancestor that left the taste of thunder in his mouth. The struggle with his mythic
ancestor would lead Asher to question his gift. After a

The Problem of Human Existence
The Problem of Human Existence Human beings live, and they die. The scary part is death while
the amazing part is living. A great mystery that surrounds human existence is death and after
death. What is existence? Is there any purpose for existence? These are two major questions for

person is always seeking answers to these questions, but no one has any answer that is considered

1.Reviewing GM s financial information in GM Exhibit 1 and its stock price in GM Exhibit 2,
when do you first see signs of GM s impending financial distress?
The sign of GM s impending financial distress is first seen in 2005. GM reported a net loss of
more than $10 billion and has continued to post annual losses since that time with losses reaching
almost $31 billion in 2008. GM s cash flow from operations in 2005 was a negative $16.8 billion.
Reviewing GM s stock price, we can see that the stock price also decreased dramatically started in
2004 to 2008. In 2005, GM s stock traded around $19 per share and reached the lowest of $1.45 per
share on March 2009.

The Global Financial Crisis or 2008 financial crisis is considered by many economists to have been

Rape, Racism And Tom Robinson By Tom Robinsonson
Rape, racism, Robinson. This is the charge being pressed against this innocent compassionate
man. He has done nothing morally or legally wrong, but only help a woman in need. Miss
Mayella Ewells. The testimonies given today throughout the trial proves without a reasonable
doubt that this man is not guilty. The testimony given by Miss Mayella Ewell s clearly reveals
that she been not just physically, but mentally abused. Miss Mayella has been abused, but not by
Tom Robinson. A father of three children, a hardworking man, a respected member of his
community and neighborhood. A man who has the moral obligation to provide for his family,
but to guide his children through the hard paths we call life. How can you guide, teach, and
raise your precious children if you are locked away from them forever? Mr. Robinson is in a
fight not only for this life, but for his family. Unable to protect, prosper, and provide for his
family at this very moment because he is sitting here as an innocent man waiting to be told he
might never see his loved ones again. I have come to a strong conclusion that not only Tom
Robinson is a devoted man to his family, but is innocent of raping and abusing Miss Mayella. Now
the prosecution has to prove beyond all reasonable doubt that Tom Robinson is guilty of this
horrendous crime, yet prosecution has failed to provide the court with substantial evidence that
proves how, who, and why it happened. The prosecution has only made a concoction of theories

38 Who Saw Hollander Analysis
Are there any acceptable reasons for letting someone die in front of your eyes? In the article The
Murder They Heard written by Stanley Milgram and Paul Hollander and first appearing in The
Nation, Milgram and Hollander explored the reasons for the neighbors failure to help, their lack
of civic sense and their actions toward Catherine Genovese s murder, in part, they are responding
to the hype created around Martin Gansberg s 38 Who Saw Murder Didn t Call the Police.
Milgram and Hollander argued that the witnesses were not at fault in that murder and instead, they
blamed the city life, society norms, law, and the situational pressure. Even though Milgram and

it was okay for them to not call the police for help. They presented some of the reasons like the

This was considered a big reason for the witnesses to not call the police or help her as they didn t

Industrial Issues In The Jungle, By Upton Sinclair
After reading the book The Jungle by Upton Sinclair it is apparent to me that even though the
book was written many years ago the issues are still relevant to this day. Sinclair raises a few
issues in his novel such as the harsh working conditions in the United States and the unsafe and
unhealthy practices in the industrial businesses. During the early 20th century the industrial
movement was causing much pain and death to the working class. Some if these issues are
relatable in today s age and will be discussed further.
The reason Sinclair wrote The Jungle was his attempt on portraying the horrible conditions and poor
lives of immigrant workers in the United States. Sinclair talks about the meat packing industry and

Memory Is A Social Phenomenon
It is been seen that memory is now ubiquitous .All of Memory has been wholly observed by its
meticulous reconstitution.. When we examine a little closely to how we recollect things in our day
to day to life, we realize that the greatest number of memories come back to us when our parents,
our neighbours, our friends or the other persons recall them to us. Differences in discourse of
memoryhave been understood by the remnants of experience which is still lived in the warmth of
tradition, in the silence of custom, in the repetition of ancestral which have been displaced under
the pressure of a fundamentally historical sensibility.
Memory is a social phenomena. It has become the subject of controversies among observers and
analysts. The notion of memory when it is defined, can be either understood as internal or inward
memory and external memory, or personal memory or social memory(Halbwach 1950, 52).
Narratives about the past by nations and states are not something new. When we reflect upon them
, we make many discoveries ; we discover the shape and the why of the events. (ibid: 55). But the
explosion of the memorial phenomenon by largely, is increased from the utterance of specific
groups, whether intranational or transnational groups, and from the range of scales on which the
narrative of past experience is legitimately expressed. A social group s identity is constructed with
narratives and traditions that are created to give its members a sense of an community.

Books and movies, young and old, generally follow the same path. This path is called heroic
monomyth in which the hero undergoes many tasks and is most likely accompanied by a friend
and meets new trials along the way. In the novel, Harry Potter and the Sorcerer s Stone by J.K.
Rowling, the character Harry Potter displays multiple counts of heroic monomyth through the call
to adventure, supernatural aid, and crossing the threshold. In the novel, the call to adventure is
present in multiple ways. First, an unusual letter shows up at the Dursley s home one day. This
letter, unlike all of the other letters and various mail, was addressed to Harry Potter. Yet here it

Women s Struggle For Women By Susan B. Anthony, Sarah And...
Throughout history, women have struggled to show their value juxtaposed to men. Women are
often downgraded economically, politically and socially just because they are female s. The
struggle between women in the 1800s is similar to the struggle women have now. Equal rights for
women are still being campaigned now as much as it was during the 1800s (Richard Chused). The
connotation of feminism has been created to be a negative word .Just like people believe women
should be equal to men, many others believe otherwise. Susan B. Anthony, Sarah and Angelina
Grimke, and Lucy Stone are only a few of the many womanrights activist during the 1800s. Well
know celebrities also help promote feminist movements like Beyonce with her song Flawless,
Amber Rose and her Slut Walk and even the well educated and activist Malala Yousafzai. Many of
these women helped the growing society have a better understanding of the inequality women face
on a daily bases by forming alliances and supporting each other to fight for equality similarly to the
first Seneca Fall Convention, which was formed in 1848 and many organizations formed today like
The Institute for Women Policy Research and The National Organization for Women, has helped
developed the fight for equality. During the 19th century the only responsibilities women had was

The Importance Of Bias In Ken Macleod
Few contemporary authors have had as profound an effect on their genre, society, political
debate, or literature in general as Robert Heinlein. Science fiction novelist Ken Macleod suggests
that the world was having a dialogue with Heinlein, unfortunately, one of the unintentional
ramifications of dialogue is misunderstanding, one cause of this is reader bias (Macleod et al.
231). Bias is most corrosive to readers understanding when brought to their initial reading,
consequently, they should avoid it for at least three reasons; first, it causes a work or author to be
regarded in many contradicting ways; second, it creates an atmosphere in which faulty arguments
are made; and third, it results in significant elements of the story being ignored. One caveat,
readers should not construe this in such a way as to imply that the arguments presented here are
merely about the book itself, so much as being about the overall scope of it in relation to Heinlein
and the bias levied for or against the book and him. Of additional consideration is the impact those
biases had on the overall message as well as the meaning of the work itself and to further
extrapolate this into how bias affects other works. It is important to recognize that in this context,
bias is any tendency to judge something either more or less favorably based on preexisting notions
rather than upon the supporting data. It is equally important to understand that the human mind
looks for patterns, the term for this

Comparing the Flood and Creation in Ovid s Metamorphoses...
Where did man come from? Where did time begin? Who, or what, created
all things? These are questions that mankind has sought to answer from the
beginning of existence as it is known today. Many stories and fables have been
told and passed down from generation to generation, yet two have survived the
test of time and criticism. The Biblical account in Genesis, probably written
by Moses around 1500 B.C., and the story of creation and flood in Ovid s
Metamorphosis, written somewhere between 8 and 17 A.D., have weathered the
criticism and become the most famous. The Genesis account, however, may be the
most prominent of the two ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
There are a few discrepancies in detail as well. The water, in Ovid s,
[holds] up, [holds] in the land, while, in Genesis, the land [separates] the
waters from the waters (549; 1:9). In Metamorphoses the air, land, light and
water (as humans know it) seems to form at one instant when God, or kindlier
Nature, [settles] all (549). In Genesis however, light; heaven; land and
vegetation; stars, sun and moon; fish; animals and man are created on separate
days.
Though these two writings are different in many respects, they are
strikingly similar as well. Both are great and beautiful poems that contiue to
stand the test of time. They are also written for the purpose of explaining or
answering some question, whether that be who, what, or how time and existence,
as it is known today, came to pass.
Both poems give credit for creation to a supreme being or supernatural
beings. Ovid states that the gods, who [make] the changes, will help me or I
hope so with a poem (548). Genesis 1:1 states, In the beginning God [creates]
the heavens and the earth.

The Obligations That Employers Have Under Current Legislation
Both these voluntary clauses identify in brief form the obligations that employers have under
current legislation. They can often be helpful, particularly when used in conjunction with a
clause outlining the obligations of employees, in establishing the commitment of both parties to
a successful relationship. Wages: When you hire your first employees, you have some
responsibilities to that employee, and to all future employees, relating to compensation. These
responsibilities are codified under federal laws: You must pay at least the minimum wage
(unless the employee receives tips or is somehow not subject to minimum wage. the wages of
the department assistant is $14.75 per hour. They review it and increase it every year. The
managers has yearly package. Holidays: New world is open on public holidays except
Christmas Eve. Leave: after 3 months of trial period the annual leave hours start adding for
someone who works at New world away according to their contract they signed. Hours of work
and shifts: the standard full time contract has 45 hours contract with 9 hours 5 days and 2 day
offs. As Countdown is always busy they need staff for over time and they give 1 and half pay if
they work over 45 hours. The part timers usually have 2 shifts of 10 hours a day. New world
takes health and safety very serious as the work at New world involves heavy lifting and cutting
so with the contract every employee fill out the ACC form too. So in case of any injury the

Angrily, I gathered my clothes and the rest of my belongings, then headed to the car. As I strode
into the cove of trees, I suddenly heard a voice. Yeah Rache, I got him right where I want him. I
suddenly saw Leena whispering with her back facing me. Yeah, I got mad, made a scene, and
told him he had a cold heart. We broke up, but I know he ll be begging to get me back...of course
it will work! Yeah, I know, it s not like I even actually cheated in the first place, remember? It was

Friendly and confident, these were personality traits that attracted me to her. But over the years,
the superficiality of high school had somehow warped her brain, making her become more like
an annoying character from a teen drama than an actual human being. I knew it was just a mask
though, a way to cover up her real emotions. But honestly, I should have broken up with her
months ago. The reason I didn t however, was because I didn t like the idea of separation. I didn
t want to be anything like my biological dad. Pursing my lips, I jammed my keys in the ignition.
The car purred to life, and swiftly I drove down the path. At least I should be grateful I was the
first one out before the car pileup, I thought, in an attempt to think positively. The sun was still out,
but the balmy air was gradually turning cold, inclement. I could feel the temperature drop as the
wind gusted in through the small crack of his window, circulating throughout the car. Behind me,
more storm clouds loomed in the distance as though I was in a race to beat the darkening sky. A
sudden peculiar feeling, a foreboding, swept over me. There was something unusual about Gemma

It was cold. The room was dim with nothing in it other than a capsule. The capsule looked like a

A Note On Crime Prevention

Businesses that use a cash drawer, can be particularly susceptible to employee theft. Cash is
always a higher temptation because it is easy to take and easy to hide and difficult for employers
to trace. Still, there are quite a few processes that can be put into place to dissuade employees from
stealing and from the business. A few options include:
1)Separate Cash Drawers At the beginning of every shift a counted cash drawer should be given
to each cashier. This provides a definitive starting amount for reference. Each cashier should be
responsible for their own individual drawer. Shared drawers will make it impossible to pinpoint
which employee might be the one stealing if a situation occurs.
2)Verifying Cash Drawer Counts Each cashier should count the cash in the drawer provided to them
at the beginning of the shift. After counting, the employee must sign the register tape to confirm
that the cash amount and the sales tape are in balance. This prevents discrepancies regarding the
amount a drawer had when the shift began.
3)Mid shift Readings At some point during each shift, without advanced notice, a manager
should take the current drawer and provide a new drawer to each cashier. A sales report should
be run on the used drawer to verify that it is in balance. This measure will prevent cashiers from
storing stolen cash in the drawer during their shift. A second drawer swap should periodically be
conducted as well to prevent predictability of the

b.Transition to Second Main Point: Now that you are financially and emotionally prepared, it s time
to evaluate the housing market. Is it a buyers or a sellers market. What are interest rates doing?
What mortgage products are available to you now, and could those options change?
B.Main Point # 2: It is very important to be aware of the housing market conditions, what is going
on in the market in regards to interest rates and what mortgage products are available to you. All of
these factors are significant in deciding your time frame for purchasing.
a.Support: This is not data that you will have to go out and collect. They are merely questions you
should ask to determine the urgency of your purchase. Any qualified professional should be able to
answer these questions for you and educate you on how they affect you.
First question, what type of real estate market are we in? Is it a buyers or a sellers market. This
may very well determine if now is the right time for you to buy. Take 2004 as an example. At that
point in time it was a very strong sellers market, which meant that sellers had more control over the
transaction and could demand more from prospective buyers. Almost every seller was receiving
multiple if not 10 or more contracts on their property. This turned every purchase into a bidding war
between potential buyers,

Teen Abuse Prescription Drug Abuse
Prescribed medication has become one of the top three leading drugs used and abused by
teenagers in America. According to Elizabeth Larsen, The Centers for Disease Control classifies
prescription drug abuse as the worst drug epidemic in United States history (Larsen p.4). This is
the worst drug epidemic in history because of the percentage of teenage usage. Based on different
studies, pills are the most commonly abused drugamong twelve and thirteen year olds because of
how easy they are to access. In fact, many teens that abuse prescription medication has admitted that
they, even with a substance addiction, still receive prescriptions from their doctor. The teenage
usage of prescription medication could be prevented with better... Show more content on

Medical professionals should further their understanding of addiction; therefore, the medical
professional can help further a patient s knowledge on how serious prescription drugs can be.
There should be parental control over prescription medications for any child under eighteen
years of age. A teenager that is undergoing surgery or might have slight ADHD should not be
prescribed addictive medication without a parent. There are young people across Mississippi
that have accidentally overdosed on prescription drugs and died. According to Autumn Grooms,
Some teen get togethers, known as pharming parties , have a cover charge of pills that are
placed in a large bowl creating trail mix (Grooms). This means teenagers are taking multiple pills
at the same time, possibly causing a sever chemical reaction or worse, death. Autumn also says, If
teenagers are abusing pharmaceuticals or over the counter medications, parents should be able to
identify it before it is too late (Grooms). Parents should be the first people to spot if their child is
acting strange in any way. The parents might notice changes in the teen s behavior, mood, or friends.
Prescription drugs are one of the easiest drugs to acquire in the street s due to how cheap it is.
Many young people in Mississippi use prescription drugs because of how easy it

As this decision to axe jobs does not completely align or alleviate the pressures which Ford is
under, further decisions (e.g. offshore to Thailand) could be expected for Ford Australia to stay
afloat . 1.2 Social Structure The focus on social structure analyses the relationships between
individuals whom contribute to Ford Australia and by extension, the individuals who give rise to
the decision. As claimed by Lex Donaldson, organizational strategy, technology, size and task
uncertainty are all contingent factors which affect the social structure of a company (Hatch amp;
Cunliffe 2006). Therefore, the level of uncertainty of Ford s environment can also have great impact
on the structure of the organization. Ford s industry and manufacturing plants give their company a
mechanistic structure. As a result, decisions are handed down from the top of the power hierarchy
and work procedures are mostly standardized and simplified. Following from that categorization,
Lawrence and Lorsch were quoted to believe that the better a company s social structure fits its
environment, the higher their rate of success. Implying Ford would succeed better if its mechanistic
structure were to change and mould to the volatility of its environment. As Rolfe and Drill (2012)
outlined, the industry had been suffering with numerous job cuts in the recent past. Ford s

Sumer, Southern Mesopotamia
writing is the physical manifestation of a spoken language. It is thought that human beings
developed language c. 35,000 BCE as evidenced by cave paintings from the period of the Cro
Magnon Man (c. 50,000 30,000 BCE) which appear to express concepts concerning daily life.
These images suggest a language because, in some instances, they seem to tell a story (say, of a
hunting expedition in which specific events occurred) rather than being simply pictures of animals
and people. Written language, however, does not emerge until its invention in Sumer, southern
Mesopotamia, c. 3500 3000 BCE. This early writing was called cuneiform and consisted of
making specific marks in wet clay with a reed implement. The writing system of the Egyptians
was already in use before the rise of the Early Dynastic Period (c. 3150 BCE) and is thought to
have developed from Mesopotamian cuneiform (though this theory is disputed) and came to be
known as heiroglyphics.
The phoenetic writing systems of the Greeks, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
1200 BCE and appears to also have arisen independently as there is no evidence of cultural
transference at this time between China and Mesopotamia. The ancient Chinese practice of
divination involved etching marks on bones or shells which were then heated until they cracked.
The cracks would then be interpreted by a Diviner. If that Diviner had etched `Next Tuesday it
will rain and `Next Tuesday it will not rain the pattern of the cracks on the bone or shell would
tell him which would be the case. In time, these etchings evolved into the Chinese script THE
INVENTION OF WRITING The Sumerians first invented writing as a means of long distance
communication which was necessitated by trade. With the rise of the cities in Mesopotamia, and
the need for resources which were lacking in the region, long distance trade developed and, with it,
the need to be able to communicate across the expanses between cities or

Gender Discrimination in Boys and Girls by Alice Munro
Children are more prone to be obedient towards their parental figures (heteronomous obedience)
while growing up. In the short story Boys and Girls by Alice Munro, life during the twentieth
century is portrayed. The narrator, who has portrayed herself as a nameless young girl, struggles
for freedom from inequality in her society. The disobedience in Boys and Girls is clarified in Erich
Fromms essay, Disobedience as a Psychological and Moral Problem (DPMP). The narrator of
Boys and Girls goes through different phases of obedience due to her authoritarian and humanistic
conscience (Fromm 10). Also, by being disobedient she has control of her own authorities.
Humanistic conscience stops her from doing something inhuman and or from being guilty; it s the
inner voice. As well as her comfort levels and the changes of her obedience impact her much to her
surprise. The young girlis well aware of what happens around her and is disobedient because of her
humanistic conscience , which has her in a battle against genderbinary and stereotypes.
The girl is young; she has no place to go, so therefore doesn t really have the option to disobey
her parents. The little girl is obedient to her parents when they are around. She does what she is
told to and helps her parents by doing some work at home. The girl helped her father [work
outside] when he cut the long grass, and the lamb s quarter and also helped [carry] water (Munro).

Arguments Against Legalizing Marijuana
The legalization of marijuana and other controlled substances is a highly discussed and
controversial topic. Opponents have generally repeated arguments formed from long lasting
government propaganda in the past, and proponents have been working tirelessly to break down
those preconceptions. There are many arguments for and against the legalization of marijuana, and
in many ways it is the same discussion that led to the end of prohibition. Generally, the opposing
arguments are geared toward moral standards and focus on correlation as causation; the arguments
for legalization are generally based on university studies and case studies from other countries and
states that have already legalized marijuana. This essay will attempt to dispel the... Show more

It is necessary that a federal agency be created to control the standardization of production,
manufacturing, distribution, and vending of products containing THC, just as there are agencies
controlling over the counter medications, alcohol, and tobacco. I have proposed that this agency
be called the Federal Marijuana Regulatory Agency (FMRA). This agency will oversee the
implementation of legalization, furthermore, it will function as the standing agency for all
marijuana related commerce and practices. The policies enforced by the FMRA will include but
are not limited to the following: All THC containing products will be marked as such and present
a warning of the negative effects. Furthermore, all THC containing products will display an
ingredient list and potency information. The manufacture and production of any THC containing
products will be subject to all OSHA regulations, and all safety and standards practices in the
FMRA guidance manual. Any discrepancies found during annual inspections will incur a fine of
up to $25,000, based on annual sales. No person under 21 will be eligible to work in direct contact
with any THC containing products. Any merchant selling/serving marijuana must have the required
permit and no persons under 21 will be allowed inside. A permit must be acquired at the expense of

The Problem Of Low Back Pain
Low back pain is one of the major causes for not only days lost at work, but also the early exit
from the field of nursing. This can potentially be a major concern to address as policymakers and
healthcare experts look to solve the nursing shortage problem. Project Back to Back is one
initiative aimed at addressing this issue. It seeks to reduce the prevalence of low back pain
experienced by nurses by introducing continual training in proper patient handling and Dru yoga
classes to nurses working in the hospital facilities that are a part of the Mount Sinai Hospital
System.
In the United States, low back pain is singled out as the most common reason for time lost at work
after the common cold, the third most common condition leading to surgical procedures, and the
fifth most common reason for hospital visits (United States Department of Health and Human
Services (HHS), Healthy People 2020, n.d.). Reports show that musculoskeletal disorders
account for approximately$240 billion in the United States annual healthcare expenditure, with
over $100 billion going to treat low back pain alone (Crow Willis, 2009). Low back pain, according
to Manek and MacGregor (2005), is defined as pain, muscle tension, or stiffness localized below
the costal margin and above the inferior gluteal folds, with or without leg pain (sciatica) (p. 134).
It can be classified as either specific or nonspecific, but the majority of the cases, approximately
90%, are nonspecific as they have no

First, Phoebe and I walked out of the park onto the east side, and took the bus to Grand Central, to get my goddam Gladstones out of the strong box there. pretty Though it had stopped pouring out, I was still wet. Boy, it really came down like a madman. I still had Phoebe s red hunting hat on, it was soaking wet though. I didn t care. All I could think about Phoebe. Just Phoebe. I usually like Phoebe s friends when I meet them. Watching the two of them helped me get my mind off of how I was about to face my parents. I was worried about my mom. I really was. I tried not to think of how hysterical she d get. Phoebe said mom and dad were coming home at around seven o clock. It was around four o clock now. Soon enough they d come home, see me, and deal with me. So, we got off the bus at 72nd street, said goodbye to Susie, and walked home. Phoebe seemed all cheery. Kids don t understand situations like this. I mean, old Phoebe, she did, but I guess she was just really happy to be with me, and that I was home and all. How are Mr. and Mrs. Antolini? , she asked me. They re doing pretty good , I said. Of course I would never tell her what really happened. I still couldn t believe it. It really bothered me. Had he always liked me in that way? I don t even want to answer that. Really. Anyway, I was so happy to see old Phoebe. She was about the only friendly person whose company I d enjoyed since I left Pencey Prep. We got home early to my surprise and I took my suitcases into my room and lay it down on my bed. • 3. Into Thin Air Quest Analysis Into Thin Air Quest Essay Q: In what ways is Into Thin Air a typical quest and/or in what ways is it different. Into Thin Air is a nonfiction book documenting Jon Krakauer s expedition to the summit of Mt Everest. The book contains aspects that a typical quest story includes: it has one motif, the characters are inexperienced and learn something about themselves, and the team faces challenges and trials on route. However the book also differs from a typical quest story because it makes the reader question morality and many of the main characters die. Into Thin Air has characteristics of both a quest story and a narrative with a complex allegory. Into Thin Air, similar to a typical quest, has the theme that personal self reliance is essential to complete a task. In chapter 19 Beck Whethers, a fellow climber on the expedition has just gotten himself back to camp after being buried in the snow, and exclaims Finally I ... Krakauer is writing an article for Outsider Magazine and wants to document the journey while fulfilling a childhood dream to reach the summit of. Along the way there are various challenges and trials. During the course of the trip they had to deal with frostbite, a major storm that is fatal to many, and results in having no one to lead them. Throughout all the ordeals the group faces, only a few get away from the trip unscathed. The expedition has many inexperienced climbers, Krakauer states Everest has always been a magnet for kooks, publicity seekers, hopeless romantics and others with a shaky hold on reality. This quote shows that there are many people who come to climb Everest with very little experience. These inexperienced climbers contribute to the 16 fatalities on that expedition. Overall these elements of Into Thin Air are similar to qualities that a quest story would ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 6. 10 Things I Hate About You And The Taming Of The Shrew Hello and welcome respected audience of the Shakespeare Society. I would like to start today by thanking you for allowing me to speak on the topic of how the stereotypical roles of women have changed and evolved in a positive manner since the Elizabethan era. I will start by defining a few beneficial terms before discussing how Shakespeare s Taming of the Shrew has been appropriated by Gil Junger s in the 1999 movie, 10 Things I Hate About You. To make a modern adaptation of a highly recognised 16th century play, one would have to have a perfect mix of both similarities and differences between the two, integrating elements from both eras. Junger, the director of 10 Things I Hate About You has managed to achieve this. By using many of the same characters and the same plot from Taming of the Shrew, he created a modernised appropriation of the Shakespeare play that incorporates aspects of teen society. The Taming of the Shrew and 10 Things I Hate About You are similar in many ways, one way they are different however is how since the Elizabethan Era the nature and role of women in society has changed considerably. The Taming of the Shrew examines the way traditional 16th century notions about gender and its hierarchy are tested and reinforced in tempestuous relationships. While patriarchy rules supreme at the plays end, it s vital to consider the constant attempts to undermine the sexist assumptions about a women s place in marriage. In The Taming of the Shrew gender plays a ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 7. The Ill Treatment Of Native Indians In A Short History of Indians in Canada, Thomas King explores, for the most part, the ill treatment of Native Indians in Canada. Two satires by the names of Coyote and the Enemy Aliens and Tidings of Comfort and Joy, focus on the arrogance of the White men and how their actions affected the society of Native Indians. Specifically, this essay discusses how their actions contributed to the dehumanization of Native Indians. This concept of Dehumanization is explored through the hypocrisy on what is legal and illegal according to the White men, the Native Indians enslaved and treated like wild animals and reduced to being mere possessions of their White masters . Firstly, in both these short stories there is a hypocritical view on what is ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Through this quote it is clear that this paper is a legal document that entitles the Coyote to all the properties of the Japanese Canadians. Is the job more important than being fair? I says (p 56). King once again emphasizes that even though this document is legal and written in the book of law, it isn t morally correct as it strips the Japanese Canadians of their basic human rights. The narrator then goes on to question whether or not the White men are doing the right thing regardless of what the law states. In Tidings of Comfort and Joy, Hudson who represents the White man has an obsession of gathering Indians as collectibles, a form of enslavement which is legally allowed however once again is not morally correct. The text states, And while most everyone had since moved to newer enthusiasms such as exotic pets, rain forest acreages and internet stocks, Hudson stayed the course and had, over the years, put together one of the more impressive collections of Indians east of Saskatoon (p 6 7). This quote ridiculously defends Hudson s obsession of collecting Indians who are humans as being morally correct, compared to other not so strange obsessions making it seem like a rational thing to do. Through this quote, King emphasizes that the sole purpose of objectification of Native Indians in this short story is to be collectible items that can be stored and used as possessions. It had been fun playing with the Indians, placing them around ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 8. Compare And Contrast Star Wars A New Hope And The Outsiders Star Wars: A New Hope and The Outsiders are not as different as most might expect. The pair of stories feature many heroes throughout, focusing on Luke Skywalker and Ponyboy Curtis. Both of these stories were originally books, before being adapted into movies. The Hero s Journey follows a narrative pattern that applies to nearly every story line there has ever been. The journey applies to both Star Wars: A New Hope and The Outsiders. The Outsiders by S. E. Hinton follows a young boy living in rural Oklahoma, who is part of a gang of teenagers called Greasers. Ponyboy and his friends are constantly up against the opposing social group, the Socials, creating conflict between the two groups. Star Wars: A New Hope, directed by George Lucas, is one of the most famous movies of all time, which centers in on an young adult that ends up on a journey to save Princess Leia and help the Rebellion fight off the Empire. Despite the contrasting genres of the stories, Luke Skywalkerand Ponyboy Michael Curtis have a similar day to day life, have comparable aid from others, and face challenges that are very much alike. The Known World that both characters experience is more analogous than some might think, when comparing an alien planet to rural Oklahoma. The Known World, being the first step in the hero s journey, allows the audience to get to know the character and understand their personality and qualities in depth. Luke Skywalker lives with his uncle and aunt, as he always has. Ponyboy ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 9. Spectral Band Replication in Audio Coding Spectral Band Replication (SBR) is a novel audio spectrum recovery technology, it can greatly improve the efficiency of perceptual audio coding compression, and thus more suitable for streaming media applications with limited bandwidth. It will be widely used in the world of digital broadcasting, the third generation mobile communications, multimedia downloads, video on demand and other services. SBR use parametric coding technique that involves complex algorithms; simply take a long time by the hardware circuit design. And this design cannot keep up with the constant development of audio standards. In other words: When a new standard integration into the decoder, it takes a long time to complete the new circuit design, the original method will no longer have a market value. Be achieved only using the software in power consumption and cost requirements are higher for portable applications with limited competition. With the increasing complexity and diversity of multimedia signal processing requirements, hardware and software co design concept has been widely applied to the actual design. The two main reasons why Spectral Band Replication can fit our needs are: First, SBR is capable of reproducing the high frequency band by using the correlation information which transmitted along with the low frequency band. Therefore, we can save the bits which were reserved for coding high frequency band without actually lost the high frequency signal. Second, it is more ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 10. Analysis Of The NFL Draft New York Jets: What position should they first address in 2018 NFL Draft? With their first pick in the 2018 NFL draft. The New York Jets without question must select a Quarterback. Most NFL Draft experts say this up and coming quarterback class is the best since the 1983 class, which featured Hall of Famers John Elway, Jim Kelly, and Dan Marino. It is vital that the Jets do so rather than wait until the later rounds of this particular draft because in the same fashion other teams are in need at the quarterback position as well. In many mock drafts, experts have an amazing total of six Quarterbacks, who could be taking in the first round alone. Experts as well as the Jets fanbase were truly shocked by the pick. Cause many experts didn t even have Hackenberg being drafted. Thus far both quarterbacks have yet to make any significant impact. Therefore, it is significantly crucial for the third year GM to select one of this year s highly touted quarterbacks with his very first pick in the upcoming 2018 draft which will be held in April 26 28 at AT T Stadium in Arlington Texas. • 11. Roxana As A Woman By being a femme seule and being a mistress, although Roxana hates having to be a mistress because she considers it immoral, Roxana was sexually liberated and had a job. Roxana had control over both her body and finances once she was no longer married or indebted, as society saw it, to a man. These two facts alone lead me to believe that Roxana can and should be considered an eighteenth century feminist icon even though I believe she would have chosen a different vocation if she had had the opportunity. In the article titled, I wou d be a Man Woman : Roxana s Amazonian Threat to the Ideology of Marriage, author Shawn Lisa Maurer writes, Despite her powerful arguments for female liberty, Roxana does not begin the novel as a fierce and independent woman. [...] Roxana is an Amazon made rather than born. Not an inherent or inherited disposition but rather the harrowing events of her early life a bad marriage, with subsequent bankruptcy and desertion have propelled her (Maurer, 367). Roxana became a mistress due to circumstances beyond her control, and furthermore, as Christina L. Healey points out in her article titled, A perfect Retreat indeed : Speculation, Surveillance, and Space in Defoe s Roxana, The novel s focus on domestic spaces and figures women who become the victims of bad business deals and who cope with their victimization by transforming themselves into women of business links the nation s economic conditions and concerns with domestic instability. ... To this day in China, the government organizes themselves under the Communist party. Communism is, in theory, a classless society in which all wealth and property are owned by the community as a whole, although in reality, there are few variations of this definition as every society is different. Every building and plot of land is owned by the community. The true goal of communismis to have a society without rulers, but Mao Zedong forged his own path and abandoned this principle. A totalitarian government is own that is ruled by a single party, has total control of the military and communication, uses terror as a controlled tactic, and controls the economy. In Oceania, Big Brother dominates his citizens, military, and economy. While being tortured, one man says, I don t care who it is or what you do to them. I ve got a wife and three children. The biggest of them isn t six years old. You can take the whole lot of them and cut their throats in front of my eyes, and I ll stand by and watch it. But not Room 101! (Orwell 299). The torture subjected by the Ministry of Truth is so deplorable that the prisoner would rather see his own wife and children suffer it over him. The use of torture forces confessions from every prisoner and influences them to act and say as the government pleases, establishing complete control. The government also exerts their control over Oceania by limiting the products in society: At any given moment there was some necessary article which the Party shops were unable to supply. Sometimes it was buttons, sometimes it was darning wool, sometimes it was shoelaces; at present it was razor blades (Orwell 48). These are the words of Earnest Green, the first African American student to graduate from Central High School in Little Rock, Arkansas. Earnest Green, along with eight other African American students, was a part of what was nicknamed the Little Rock Nine, the group that integrated Central High, an all white public school in Arkansas. This integration was a result of the Brown v. Board of Education ruling, which said segregation of black and white students in schools, was unconstitutional. These nine students attempted to enter Central High September 1957. The Little Rock Nine s integration was met with extreme opposition, including Arkansas Governor Orval Faubus calling in... On September 4th, 1957, Governor Faubus ordered the Arkansas National Guard to Little Rock Central High school, preventing any of the Little Rock Nine from entering Central High. Elizabeth Eckford was the only student that went to school on this day because of a lack of communication with the other students. She arrived at the school alone and was antagonized by the angry mob. At first she felt reassured when she saw the troops, whom she assumed were there to protect her...When she tried to squeeze past a guard, He raised his bayonet, and then the other guards moved in. One can only imagine what Eckford felt like, being completely alone in a mob of people screaming Lynch her! , only to realize the people you thought were there to protect you were actually not. The students finally were able to enter the school on September 23rd, 1957. But the fight was not over. The Little Rock Nine continued to face extreme harassment, both physical and verbal. Melba Pattillo recounted many of these incidents in her book, Warriors Don t Cry. One that stuck out the most was when she recounted going to bathroom, the one place her guard could not join her, and having girls scratch and giggle outside the door. She writes, I promised myself I would drink less water so I wouldn t have to take that risk so often. Her stories of the vulgar language and the harassment when the guard was or wasn t around, shows the extreme condition she faced trying to make a charge for her generation. She compares her experience in Central High to being soldier, just trying to survive. Another factor that created this environment for the Little Rock Nine was the lack of discipline of students by teachers. Pattillo writes about how her friend Minnijean Brown had faith in school officials, faith that they would step in. She continued to count on them to respond with compassion to ... When run off water runs into a water storage it will evaporate at some point in the future. Condensation Condensation is the process by which water vapor in the air is changed back in to liquid water. Condensation is crucial to the water cycle because is responsible for the formation of clouds. Precipitation The final step in the water cycle is precipitation. Precipitation is when water is released from clouds in the form of rain, acid rain, sleet, snow, or hail. It is the primary connection in the water cycle that provides for the delivery of atmospheric water to the earth. The most common type of precipitation is rain. • 16. How Social And Political Procedures Affects Resilience At... This paper has demonstrated and examines how series of social and political procedure affects resilience at various spatial scales. Resilience is defined as the ability of individuals or communities to withstand and rebound from sudden natural disaster [earthquake, flood or hurricane] that accounts for the loss of life and properties. However, the definition of resilience is broad as resilience thinkers [Charles Holling and Neil Adger] have argued differently. For example, Holling defines resilience as the ability of a system to absorb change of state variable, driving variables, and parameters, and still persist (Holling, 1973), while Adger, defines resilience as the ability of groups or communities to cope with external stresses and disturbances as a result of social, political and environmental change (Adger, 2000). Understandably, thinker like Adger and Holling as Climate Changethinkers within the academic space have a different opinion to what constitutes the impact of climatechange and best possible approaches needed towards building resilience within social and political frameworks. This paper argues prevalently that, resilience is shaped by social and political discourse emphasizing on vulnerability and climate change adaptation methods such as Livelihood and Economic Diversification (LED) and Community based adaptation (CBA). The essay further argues that resilience is debated at multi levels [local, state, and global] but global policy makers often dominate the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 17. Bourgeoisie By Karl Marx Karl Marx, a historian and political theorist, believed that there would be a great revolution involving the proletariat, or working class who sell their labor, and the bourgeoisie, who control the means of production. Because the bourgeoisie controlled the means of production, the proletariat were under the control of the bourgeoisie, and had to sell their labor even though the work was alienating to them. Working in factories was the only job they could land, but were forced to do so to survive. The actions of the bourgeoisie and proletariat prove Marx s idea that everything done in society is for capital gains, or money. Marx proposed that the proletariat would rise up and all would become one class, working together for the society. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

ABSTRACT: A rapid and massive movement of tourists within a shorter span of tourist season puts a heavy pressure on tourist resources. The usage of tourist attractions is likely to be damaged beyond repair and their life span may even get shortened. In the absence of innovations or added sources of recreation, the regional tourism soon reaches its saturation point. If such a plateau stage of tourism gets prolonged, it starts cutting short the prolong stay of tourists. Some of them may not like to repeat their visits or may go elsewhere. Innovations must be talked about to pass over this stage. Encouragement of interstate package tours inclusive of the provision of budget accommodation at the wayside prime halting spots becomes obligatory. Only a National Policy can tackle the national level natural disaster which adversely affects tourism over very extensive areas. A regional policy has to take up a number of measures to avoid overcrowding at tourist places and saving them from deterioration even by co opting private enterprise in the form of investments in socio religious voluntary services. • 22. Marginalization Of Felons In Michelle Alexander s The New Jim With no doubt, mass incarceration has produced broken people from a broken system. What breaks the heart even more is knowing that there are collateral consequences that follow these ex prisoners throughout the rest of their life. Those who come out of the incarcerated system struggle to get back on their feet due to discrimination. Marginalization of felons can be found anywhere specifically in jobs, housing, and even in debt that they cannot afford. Iris Marian Young introduces the birdcage metaphor, where one wire of the cage represents racism. However, there are many wires that create racism, and each of them have different approaches in keeping the bird, or the disadvantaged, trapped in the cage. Michelle Alexander s book, The New Jim... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Simply, being labeled a felon restricts the individual from several aspects in life. Alexander states that they are unable to drive, get a job, find housing, or even qualify for public benefits, [they] lose their children, their dignity, and eventually their freedom (143). Felons are marginalized from society. They are unable to obtain resources to help themselves due to collateral consequences. Particularly, under the category of collateral consequences, finding a job in order to support themselves financially is a challenge. When applying for a job, felons are usually avoided in the pool of applicants. Before they even check the box that signifies that they are a felon, the concept of legal discrimination is applied to the surface. Alexander introduces the strategy of the negative credential in the job market. Employers are legally allowed to discriminate people from being employed based on criminal status and skin color. Black men who have not committed crimes have the same chance of being rejected as those who have committed one. Before considering on hiring, employers have a preconceived image about black men being criminals, even if one has a clean record. The metaphor that Young uses about the birdcage becomes parallel to one of the aspects of the collateral consequences, which is legal discrimination in the job market. Alexander uses a boxed in analogy for a job application for felons, and Young s metaphor of being stuck in one place, hence the birdcage being a box, aligns with Alexander s vision. With discrimination on a criminal status towards black men, it is difficult to find a job. Without a job, they cannot support themselves in the world because there are only so many options. Considering that they also come out of prison with almost nothing, the societal level they are in progresses lower as time goes on. With no money, they are unable ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

This may be true, however, one should consider the fact that the low income families cannot afford to buy any other healthy alternatives either. Consequently, this puts low income families in a hole. They could not afford healthy alternatives to begin with and now they cannot afford junk food and soft drinks either. Raising taxes on junk food and soft drinks may also leave low income consumers with insufficient fronds to purchase other basic necessities (Pratt, 2013). Raising taxes on food is not only heartless; it is also unethical because they are being deprived of an essential need. (Frank et al. 2013) Taxing junk foods and soft drinks affects more than just the people buying them; it also affects the companies selling them. Increasing the price of unhealthy foods is likely to reduce overall consumption (Badilas, 2011). There are many different companies that are responsible for producing junk food and soft drinks. If taxes are raised for all junk foods and soft drinks, then there is a high probability that the public will stop buying certain items. When we examine a little closely to how we recollect things in our day to day to life, we realize that the greatest number of memories come back to us when our parents, our neighbours, our friends or the other persons recall them to us. Differences in discourse of memoryhave been understood by the remnants of experience which is still lived in the warmth of tradition, in the silence of custom, in the repetition of ancestral which have been displaced under the pressure of a fundamentally historical sensibility. Memory is a social phenomena. It has become the subject of controversies among observers and analysts. The notion of memory when it is defined, can be either understood as internal or inward memory and external memory, or personal memory or social memory(Halbwach 1950, 52). • 39. Women s Struggle For Women By Susan B. Anthony, Sarah And... Throughout history, women have struggled to show their value juxtaposed to men. Women are often downgraded economically, politically and socially just because they are female s. The struggle between women in the 1800s is similar to the struggle women have now. Equal rights for women are still being campaigned now as much as it was during the 1800s (Richard Chused). The connotation of feminism has been created to be a negative word .Just like people believe women should be equal to men, many others believe otherwise. Susan B. Anthony, Sarah and Angelina Grimke, and Lucy Stone are only a few of the many womanrights activist during the 1800s. Well know celebrities also help promote feminist movements like Beyonce with her song Flawless, Amber Rose and her Slut Walk and even the well educated and activist Malala Yousafzai. Many of these women helped the growing society have a better understanding of the inequality women face on a daily bases by forming alliances and supporting each other to fight for equality similarly to the first Seneca Fall Convention, which was formed in 1848 and many organizations formed today like The Institute for Women Policy Research and The National Organization for Women, has helped developed the fight for equality. • 40. The Importance Of Bias In Ken Macleod Few contemporary authors have had as profound an effect on their genre, society, political debate, or literature in general as Robert Heinlein. Science fiction novelist Ken Macleod suggests that the world was having a dialogue with Heinlein, unfortunately, one of the unintentional ramifications of dialogue is misunderstanding, one cause of this is reader bias (Macleod et al. 231). Bias is most corrosive to readers understanding when brought to their initial reading, consequently, they should avoid it for at least three reasons; first, it causes a work or author to be regarded in many contradicting ways; second, it creates an atmosphere in which faulty arguments are made; and third, it results in significant elements of the story being ignored. One caveat, readers should not construe this in such a way as to imply that the arguments presented here are merely about the book itself, so much as being about the overall scope of it in relation to Heinlein and the bias levied for or against the book and him. Of additional consideration is the impact those biases had on the overall message as well as the meaning of the work itself and to further extrapolate this into how bias affects other works. It is important to recognize that in this context, bias is any tendency to judge something either more or less favorably based on preexisting notions rather than upon the supporting data. It is equally important to understand that the human mind looks for patterns, the term for this ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The Biblical account in Genesis, probably written by Moses around 1500 B.C., and the story of creation and flood in Ovid s Metamorphosis, written somewhere between 8 and 17 A.D., have weathered the criticism and become the most famous. • 47. A Note On Crime Prevention Crime Prevention Businesses that use a cash drawer, can be particularly susceptible to employee theft. Cash is always a higher temptation because it is easy to take and easy to hide and difficult for employers to trace. Still, there are quite a few processes that can be put into place to dissuade employees from stealing and from the business. A few options include: 1)Separate Cash Drawers At the beginning of every shift a counted cash drawer should be given to each cashier. This provides a definitive starting amount for reference. Each cashier should be responsible for their own individual drawer. Shared drawers will make it impossible to pinpoint which employee might be the one stealing if a situation occurs. 2)Verifying Cash Drawer Counts Each cashier should count the cash in the drawer provided to them at the beginning of the shift. After counting, the employee must sign the register tape to confirm that the cash amount and the sales tape are in balance. This prevents discrepancies regarding the amount a drawer had when the shift began. 3)Mid shift Readings At some point during each shift, without advanced notice, a manager should take the current drawer and provide a new drawer to each cashier. A sales report should be run on the used drawer to verify that it is in balance. This measure will prevent cashiers from storing stolen cash in the drawer during their shift. A second drawer swap should periodically be conducted as well to prevent predictability of the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

As claimed by Lex Donaldson, organizational strategy, technology, size and task uncertainty are all contingent factors which affect the social structure of a company (Hatch amp; Cunliffe 2006). Therefore, the level of uncertainty of Ford s environment can also have great impact on the structure of the organization. Ford s industry and manufacturing plants give their company a mechanistic structure. It is thought that human beings developed language c. 35,000 BCE as evidenced by cave paintings from the period of the Cro Magnon Man (c. 50,000 30,000 BCE) which appear to express concepts concerning daily life. These images suggest a language because, in some instances, they seem to tell a story (say, of a hunting expedition in which specific events occurred) rather than being simply pictures of animals and people. Written language, however, does not emerge until its invention in Sumer, southern Mesopotamia, c. 3500 3000 BCE. This early writing was called cuneiform and consisted of making specific marks in wet clay with a reed implement. The writing system of the Egyptians was already in use before the rise of the Early Dynastic Period (c. 3150 BCE) and is thought to have developed from Mesopotamian cuneiform (though this theory is disputed) and came to be known as heiroglyphics. In the short story Boys and Girls by Alice Munro, life during the twentieth century is portrayed. The disobedience in Boys and Girls is clarified in Erich Fromms essay, Disobedience as a Psychological and Moral Problem (DPMP). The narrator of Boys and Girls goes through different phases of obedience due to her authoritarian and humanistic conscience (Fromm 10). Also, by being disobedient she has control of her own authorities. Humanistic conscience stops her from doing something inhuman and or from being guilty; it s the inner voice. As well as her comfort levels and the changes of her obedience impact her much to her surprise. The young girlis well aware of what happens around her and is disobedient because of her humanistic conscience , which has her in a battle against genderbinary and stereotypes. The girl is young; she has no place to go, so therefore doesn t really have the option to disobey her parents. The little girl is obedient to her parents when they are around. It seeks to reduce the prevalence of low back pain experienced by nurses by introducing continual training in proper patient handling and Dru yoga classes to nurses working in the hospital facilities that are a part of the Mount Sinai Hospital System. In the United States, low back pain is singled out as the most common reason for time lost at work after the common cold, the third most common condition leading to surgical procedures, and the fifth most common reason for hospital visits (United States Department of Health and Human Services (HHS), Healthy People 2020, n.d.).
