Bleachers Structure
My structures that I created were half of the bleachers, 2 hockey nets. The most work I did on a
structure was the bleachers because we had to learn how to make them stable and we had to
find a strong base witch we eventually we did. My bleachers work because in the end we used
construction foam for is base and to hold then up we used a beam going from the bleachers to
the ground for more stability and I know that it will work because we used baba and jimmy . For
the net I made a design the picture show the way I made it stabile by putting support at the back

with that fence I tied string in knots to secure it not falling off. The boards we used plastic for
the more realistic feel to the structure so the way we supported it was by digging the Popsicle
sticks in to the form and glued it to the walls for support to make the walls stay up and for the

Adam and Eve and Temptation Essay
Kyle Dudzinski
Ms. Cecelia
AP English 12
20 December 2010
Temptation Temptation has been around since the conception of our Earth. All civilizations,
including the Egyptians, the Greeks, the Romans, the British, and even modern day individuals,
have fallen victim to temptations that the world offers. John Owen described temptation as a knife,
that may either cut the meat or the throat of a man; it may be his food or his poison, his exercise or
destruction. A temptation is an act that appears enticing to an individual, but is usually coupled
with damaging implications that may lead to feelings of regret and remorse. A person may fall
victim to temptation when he lacks the self control to avoid enticing situations and is ... Show more

Temptation is also rabid in most high school settings. Sex, illegal drugs, alcohol, cheating, and
tobacco are all temptations students are faced with on a daily basis. Teenagers must each make
personal decisions to either refrain from immoral conduct or succumb to the temptations of peer
pressure, usually with the hopes of being accepted. The temptations of potentially destructive
decisions are immense. It takes a strong willed individual to stand up against the majority and
hold true to his values. Not bowing to temptation is a difficult task for any person, but especially
for a high school student who is more worried about his own popularity and appearance and has yet
to grow his moral fibers. The temptations that the youth of our modern culture experience are very
appealing, but their consequences are more damaging than ever before. Temptation surrounds our
lives. Daily, we make decisions to either surrender to it or to persevere against it. It takes courage,
bravery, and discipline to withstand temptation. William Butler Yeatswrote that Every conquering
temptation represents a new found moral energy. Every trial endured and weathered in the right
spirit makes a soul nobler and stronger than it was before. When an individual overcomes the
temptation of participating in an immoral act, he grows as a person and becomes morally stronger.
With the knowledge of the results of a bad decision, a person can learn

10 Things I Hate About You And The Taming Of The Shrew
Hello and welcome respected audience of the Shakespeare Society. I would like to start today by
thanking you for allowing me to speak on the topic of how the stereotypical roles of women
have changed and evolved in a positive manner since the Elizabethan era. I will start by defining
a few beneficial terms before discussing how Shakespeare s Taming of the Shrew has been
appropriated by Gil Junger s in the 1999 movie, 10 Things I Hate About You.
To make a modern adaptation of a highly recognised 16th century play, one would have to have a
perfect mix of both similarities and differences between the two, integrating elements from both
eras. Junger, the director of 10 Things I Hate About You has managed to achieve this. By using
many of the same characters and the same plot from Taming of the Shrew, he created a modernised
appropriation of the Shakespeare play that incorporates aspects of teen society. The Taming of the
Shrew and 10 Things I Hate About You are similar in many ways, one way they are different
however is how since the Elizabethan Era the nature and role of women in society has changed
considerably.
The Taming of the Shrew examines the way traditional 16th century notions about gender and its
hierarchy are tested and reinforced in tempestuous relationships. While patriarchy rules supreme at
the plays end, it s vital to consider the constant attempts to undermine the sexist assumptions about a
women s place in marriage. In The Taming of the Shrew gender plays a

Abolitionist As Abolitionism
abolitionist, orator, writer, and statesman. My works earned me the name of The living counter
argument against slaveholder s claims that slaves lacked enough intelligence to become
functional American citizens (Douglass, para. 10). After the publication of my first
autobiography, many believed that the publicity garnered from the book would gain the
attention my last master Hugh auld. They thought that he would come for me and suggested
that I travel to Ireland like many other slaves had done before. In Ireland, the sense of freedom
and equality there astounded me. For the first time in my life, I felt like an ordinary citizen.
Nobody gazed at me as like I was a wild livestock roaming down a street. I can enter the same
buildings through the same doors as white people can. Nobody comes to me and says anything
when I sit with them. No one offers objection and tries to guide me out saying We don t serve
niggers here. (Douglas, para 27). I spent nearly two years in overseas traveling and giving
lectures in churches, I have traveled this route over a million times. I met Thomas Clarkson in
1846. He was one of the last living abolitionist in England who helped bring an end to slavery in
Great Britain colonies. During this travel, I also finally became legally free, thank to the help of
Anna Richardson and her sister Ellen and others who raised funds to by my freedom. Though I
was encouraged by many to stay in Ireland, I couldn t bear the thought of leaving my wife and

How Hippotherapy Is Helping Improve Individuals with Asd...
To help in the improvement of autistic spectrum disorder (ASD) many families are turning toward
a physical, occupational, and speech and language medical therapy called Hippotherapy. This form
of therapy might sound like it involves the Hippopotamus, however it actually involves the use of
horses; the root word hippo means horsein Latin. Hippotherapy utilizes an equine s
multidimensional movement and its dynamic base of support as a part of an integrated intervention
program to achieve functional outcomes in patients with ASD. ASD is a bio neurological
developmental disability which impacts the normal development of the brain and means that they
have difficulty performing functional daily living skills like feeding themselves,... Show more

Individuals afflicted with ASD have a difficult time taking the information on where they want to
go then telling the rest of their body how they are going to accomplish getting there (National
Autism Association, 2012). If the occupational therapist has the individual steer the horse to a
specific destination, then the individual must concentrate on how they need to move their hands to
be able to steer to the destination. Also to help with hand and eye coordination, the occupational
therapist can have the individual ride the horse and grab hanging rings. By utilizing the horse s
movement in conjunction with other standard occupational intervention strategies, Hippotherapy
addresses and bolsters functional outcomes having to do with an individual s ability to process
sensory information such as seeing and feeling the same thing differently or keeping balance
(American Hippotherapy Association, 2010). By having the individual ride the horse while facing
backward, the individual sees that they are facing backward, but feels the horse moving forward.
Individuals with ASD have a hard time deciphering the opposing information when a horse is
moving forward, but they are facing backward (National Autism Association, 2012). By practicing
this difficult skill the individual becomes more aware of what is happening around them and then is
better able to

Keystone Oil Pipeline
Our goals : Our intentions are to disrupt the ecological balance by laying waste to the
infrastructure of oil pipelines, to bring awareness of the inherent perils to public knowledge. We
intend to disrupt the ecological infrastructure by committing one of the worst Eco disasters
mankind has ever seen. We intend to disrupt the flow of liquid gold to bring about awareness and
change. Our goal is coercion, we aim to ultimately coerce the masses to substitute dangerous oil
pipelines for cleaner, sustainable energy sources, which do not pollute the lungs of our earth. We
intend to incapacitate the system by raising pressure, breaking the threshold, and causing an
eruption from the inside out. Our goal is to bring about societal and environmental change forcibly.

substantial rise in pressure, ultimately causing the pipelines to explode. We will also set charges
of composition 4 and Semtex along faults and weak points in the piping, causing a simultaneous
explosion, ensuring our message will be heard from around the nation. In the midst of the
explosion, there will be carnage and death. Our manifesto will be seen by the eyes of many

Theme Of Women In The Yellow Wallpaper
The Woman behind the Wallpaper
There comes John, and I must put this away, he hates to have me write a word. (Gilman 469)
This quote is a prime example of the lack of freedom and control woman in the 1800 s have. The
narrator of our short story The Yellow Wallpaper is an excellent example of a Victorian Womanwho
expresses the theme of Female Oppression and inequality. Through use of literary elements such as
characterization, symbolism and imagery Gilman perfectly illustrates the social issues these women
struggle with.
Gilman uses literary elements such as characterization and imagery to help emphasize the
detrimental effects of female oppression. In the story the characterization helps to demonstrate the
struggles between Jane Doe and John. Her husband, John, often demeans the narrator making her
appear self centered. Perhaps that is one reason I do not get well faster. You see he does not
believe I am sick. (Gilman 468) This illustrates the toxic and unhealthy relationship between John
and his wife. John controls her by forcing her to believe all her issues are in her head, causing her
paranoia and delusion. Furthermore, this helps express how much power men hold over women
and how little control females have over their lives. Another example of how literary elements
demonstrate the overall theme of inequality of women occurs when Gilman describes their house
through immense imagery. One example of the amount of control John has comes through the dark
and eerie

Freud s Developmental Stages Essay
Freud held strong beliefs about the roles of sex, procreation and the death drive within human
psychological development and developmental problems.
A brief summary of Freudian developmental stages:
Birth 1 year: Oral Stage.
This stage is concerned with the mouth and how the baby feeds i.e. sucking and is weaned on and
from mothers milk. He called this libido and refers to it as the driving force.
When the baby changes from sucking to biting this indicates the time for weaning and the next
stage which is solid food.
Freud believes that if this is done to abruptly it can cause trauma and inhibit healthy progression.
The individual could suffer from difficulties with food, oral behaviours such as smoking, gossip
and other more aggressive verbal ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
1 3 years: The Anal stage. â€oeWhere gratification is derived from gaining control over
withholding or eliminating faeces†Dryden s
Handbook of Individual Therapy pg 32
This stage is concerned with child s need to do things on their own terms, the conflict arises for
them where they have a need to assert their own will but also crave parental approval, this time can
produce a battle of wills between parent and child.
Age 3 6 years: The phallic stage.
At the core of this stage we see the child begin to learn about other people around them and the
roles they play, as children often learn by mimicking or copying they begin to do that with the
same sex role models according to Freud, although in the modern world this is not so clear cut as
there are many single sex parents and same gender parents raising families, which back then would
not have been accepted.
However, as the child becomes more aware of their genitals they will become increasingly curious
about sexual differences.
This is a very important stage in psychological development. There are some differing accounts
about what the Oedipal complex truly represents but it is clear it is a time of confusion for a

Essay The Essex and Hazel Motes in Wise Blood by Flannery...
The Essex and Hazel Motes in Wise Blood by Flannery O Connor
In her 1952 novel Wise Blood, Flannery O Connor presents Hazel Motes s Essex automobile as a
symbol for Hazel himself. The car s dilapidated state corresponds to Motes s own spiritual decay;
however, the initial quality of the car s workmanship corresponds to Hazel s Christian upbringing,
which he cannot deny in spite of himself. Motes s identification with and reliance upon his car as
a means of escape becomes ironic as the Essex continually fails to deliver him from his demons;
Hazel s dependence on his car (despite his contentions that he is not concerned with material
possessions) actually holds him back.
O Connor writes of Motes s Christian childhood in chapter one ... Show more content on

Complicating Hazel s confused conceptions of entrapment, sin, and Christianity is the episode
involving the Melsy carnival, at which Hazel and his father pay to see a woman lying in a
coffin. Hazel s father has a lustful reaction to the woman; he says Had one of themther built into
ever casket . . . be a heap ready to go sooner (32). Haze s shut mouthed mother, who O Connor
describes as having a cross shaped face, senses Haze s guilt when he returns home (32 33). Telling
him that Jesus died to redeem you, she whips him with a stick, leaving him with a nameless
unplaced guilt (33). The actions of his parents leave Motes unable to distinguish what is good and
Christian from what is forbidden and evil. He associates his grandfather with Christianity but also
entrapment; he associates entrapment with the carnival episode, in which his father treated the
woman as desirable but after which Hazel was made to feel guilty.
Hazel Motes s Christian upbringing continues to be significant in later chapters of Wise Blood.
Several characters notice an inherent goodness in Hazel that shows through despite his
determination to deny it. The FROSTY BOTTLE waitress, who says, I know a clean boy when I
see on e, warnsthe nice boy Hazel to stay away from Enoch, lest he be corrupted by the goddamned
son a bitch (46 47). Hazel responds, I AM clean, making

The intelligence scores of identical twins reared together are more similar than those of fraternal
twins. Brain scan also reveals that identical twins have similar volume to their brain s gray matter,
and those areas associated with verbal and spatial intelligence. Because many genes influence
intelligence, it is said to be polygenetic. The intelligencetest score of fraternal twins are more alike
than the intelligence test scores of other siblings. This provides evidence of an environmental
effect because fraternal twins, being the same age, are treated more alike. Studies of adopted
children and their adoptive and biological families demonstrate that with age, genetic influences

Although normal brain development can be retarded by sensory, social isolation, and deprivation,
there is no sure environment that will transform a normal baby into a genius. Explain why heredity
many contribute to individual differences in intelligence but not necessarily contributes to group
differences. The amount of variation in a trait within a group that is attributed to genetic factors is
called its heritability. For intelligence, this has been estimated at 50 percent. If we know a trait has
perfect heritability, this knowledge does not enable us to rule out environmental factors in
explaining differences between groups. Because of the impact of environmental factors such as
education and nutrition on intelligence test performance, even if the heritability of intelligence is
high within a particular group, differences in intelligence among groups may be environmentally
caused. One group may, for example, thrive in an enriched environment while another of the same
genetic predisposition may falter in an impoverished

Essay On Eczema
Eczema is a medical condition in which patches of skin become rough and inflamed, with blisters
that cause itching and bleeding, sometimes resulting from a reaction to irritation but more typically
having no obvious external cause.Atopic dermatitis (known as eczema) is an inherited, chronic
inflammatory skin condition that usually appears in early childhood. Patches of skin become red,
scaly and itchy. The exact cause of eczema is unknown, but it s thought to be linked to an
overactive response by the body s immune systemto an irritant. It is this response that causes the
symptoms of eczema. In addition, eczema is commonly found in families with a history of other
allergies or asthma. It is also important to avoid skin irritants, such as soap, hot water and synthetic
fabrics.Everyday things in your environment cigarette smoke, pollen, and even your clothes can

Why I Am My Freedom At The Time Is Truly Freedom, Or...
Millions of choices ripple through our lives daily bringing overwhelming possibilities to endless
paths. Each of these trifling choices brings us to who we are today. But, it only takes one
minimal choice to halt our future and steer us spiraling in a different direction. It s with this ONE
choice that years later led me to What Ifs? and regrets, and made me question whether my freedom
at the time was truly freedom, or constraint. From a very young age, I was raised around horses.
Through generations of Andersons riding was a given, a family trait, however, riding was never
that important to me. I was taught to ride when I was just six years old and started competing when
I was ten. I spent countless afternoons training after school, trotting and cantering around the horse
track or down riding trails. For a while riding, was liberating, a release from the outside world,
but as I turned fourteen riding became something that only squandered my free time. For months
I made excuses, or lied about going to the stables. I did not know how to tell my Mom that I no
longer shared her love for riding, it meant too much to her, to my family, but I was sick of
spending my free time doing something I no longer enjoyed. Eventually my Mom caught on to
my tricks, yet her response was unexpected. She was calm and collected and allowed me to quit
on a whim. It was not till years later that I realized that maybe the freedom she gave me to make
my own choice, pertaining riding, was not

Last Day Of High School
The last day of my Early College High School (ECHS) 2017 year, was a day I will never forget. On
the last day of school, I got to drive my dad s truck; I remember telling myself I can t wait until I
get my own car, which is something I asked for on my Christmas list to Santa. I went to classes
ready to get my last final over with. The day went by pretty fast after the test, then we went to
lunch and then we had clubs. Since my club was not allowed to go to the gym, I stayed inside
with the Medical club. In the medical club, Cody gave a long presentation on the different
Affordable Care Acts (ACA) proposal, and we got into a debate which got me ready for the break
even more.
At the beginning of the break, I was excited to be out of school, I had made so many plans. I
made plans to go to Austin and go to the spray paint park, and travel to Louisiana to celebrate my
niece s first birthday, but all of my plans were ruined.
For the first week of my break, I was sick. I winded up catching both the flu and strep throat, I
thought my Christmas break would be ruined, but it wasn t. During the time that I was sick, I got to
plan which Christmas gifts to get my family members instead of waiting until the last moment, and
everyone winded up loving their gifts. Due to the fact of me being sick, I couldn t go anywhere;
which meant no chores, no being told to get out the house; I actually had time to relax. While
relaxing I caught on my Netflix shows and my sleep.

Climate Change Is The Global Climate System
Climate is part of our everyday lives. What we experience is the global climate system. According
to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change, climate change is, a change of
climate which is attributed directly or indirectly to human activity alters the composition of the
atmosphere and which is in addition to natural climatevariability observed over comparable time
periods. (Allen, Seaman Delascio, 2009) Australia s climate has warmed a lot more since 1910
by the average of 0.9 C. it has been rising dramaticllay since 1950 s.the daytime temperatures
have increased by 0.8 C whereas in the night time, we experience 1.1 C more heat than the people
living in 1900 s. (BOM CSIRO, 2014). In 2004 more than 234 newspaper articles have concluded
that we may have, in fact, reached the tipping point for the climate change. Walker (2006) believes
that this man made climate change has caused havoc on the earths atmosphere and the most
striking of all the components is the arctic. Farthest north is the carapace of sea ice over the Arctic
Ocean. South of that is the vast ice sheet that covers Greenland. And then there is the ocean
conveyor belt, which originates in a small region of the Nordic seas and carries heat and salt
around the world.
All three seem to have inbuilt danger zones that may deserve to be called tipping points. And the
outside forces pushing them towards those points are gathering. It has been found that the summer

Forgiveness In The Novel Disgrace
Disgrace is a novel by the Nobel prize winning writer Coetzee set in the post apartheid period in
South Africa, a period when people were trying their best to learn to forgive the past wrong done by
the oppressive, ethnic government. The question of what it means to forgive is raised in the novel.
Forgiveness is seen in the South African society as something conditional, the wrongdoers have to
do something so that they can be forgiven. The Promotion of National Unity and Reconciliation Act
34 of 1995 established a Truth and Reconciliation Commission (TRC) to help those victims who
were uncomfortable to forgive. It forged a new relationship among amnesty, trust, and forgivenessin
forgiving, people are not being asked to forget, but to remember, so that such atrocities will not
happen again. In this essay, I will first talk about the Truth and Reconciliation Commission so as to
criticise its presumption of the significance of truth revelation. I will support my notion with
reference to some scenes in the novel Disgrace and point out some characteristics of forgiveness.
Then I will put forward what I think it means to forgive a past wrong and finally question the
necessity of the existence of the Commission.
In the TRC, the significance of truth is ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

after knowing the truth. One victim s sister said, We can t forgive you, you say this and you say that,
you have more than one story. This statement hints that having too much truth may hinder the
process of forgiveness, to forgive does not mean that you must know what the truth is and accept

Van Der Poll s Do Hit Chair
In relation to the above question, I have selected Van Der Poll s Do Hit Chair (2000 present) as a
contemporary work that manifests rebellion in the contemporary landscape. Physically and
visually, I am deprived of any realistic or actual representation of the artwork, as I can only
analyse the 2D, virtual image I have found on the internet. However, Do Hit Chair heavily
involves internet engagement, and this is the exact experience the audience has themselves
when purchasing the work. Thus, I have chosen to analyse the web page on which Do Hit Chair
is advertised. Demonstrated in the Description part on the web page, the consumer becomes the
co designer by creating their own, edited version of the art work. This is further typified by the
online sharing options at the top right hand corner of the designers web page. The internet is
significant to the artworks interpretation, as the consumer/audience s usage of the internet allows
them to purchase the piece and enable them to publicise and even resell their own creations.
Accordingly, the artwork (or piece of furniture) becomes a cycle of consumerism. The work
ideally functions as a chair, which is presumed by the title, however the artist is able to change
/alter the object into whatever they please. The spatial dimensions (100 x 70 x 75 cm) also
indicate the objects purpose as the size is generally similar to the standard sized chair dimensions....

included traits like helping others grow, setting an example for others, and everything in between.

Indi A Country Of Personal Laws
INTRODUCTION
India s history is testimony to the fact that it s been a country of personal laws. The reality in
India has always been much more complex than other societies, which have been totally
secularized. The process of secularization in India, though not negligible has been far more slow
and tortuous. And no law however ideal can become acceptable if it alienates people and ignores
social realities. A law has to be socially rooted in order to be acceptable. In India, there are different
set of laws for different communities pertaining to personal matters like marriage, divorce, property,
adoption, inheritance and maintenance. The Uniform Civil Code implies covering all these
personal laws into one unified set of a secular law, that ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
WHAT IS UNIFORM CIVIL CODE?
Article 44 of the constitution of India lists Uniform Civil Code (Article 44 of the Constitution
pledges for a uniform civil code. It runs as The State shall endeavor to secure for the citizens a
uniform civil code throughout the territory of India ). as one of the Directive Principles of state
policy. Directive principles of state policy, which comprises part IV of the constitution of India,
are guidelines for the state and central governments to help them in framing laws and policies.
However these Directive Principles shall not be enforceable by any court, but the principles
therein laid down are nevertheless fundamental in the governance of the country and it shall be
the duty of the State to apply these principles in making laws , according to Article 37 of the
Constitution. Though article 44 of constitution does not define the meaning of the expression civil
code , its meaning can be found out from its context and other provisions of the constitution which
are relevant on this behalf. The word civil is used in various senses, refers to the expression civil
law (substantive and procedural) relating to private rights of citizens. Civil law would relate to
various aspects of personal relations such as contract, property, marriage and inheritance. The

Nineteen Thirty Eight Regardless of the despondency at the prospect of war with Germany
generated throughout the country at large, the Vyses annual show opened as scheduled at Walker
s Galleries on Wednesday, 30th November 1938. It was the Vyses eleventh successive exhibition
and although they did not envisage such a far reaching event, it proved to be their final joint
exhibition. Writing in Walker s Monthly magazine, J L Naimaster reinforcing the mood of the
time: Though international crises may threaten us, and vogues may change and novelties may date,
but Pottery that is fundamentally well balanced remains static and real in an unstable, hysterical
world. It was Nell Vyse s opinion that in such uncertain times that no one could remain sane
without using a liberal amount of imagination, only a few of us can materialise our fantasies. The
Vyses, ever optimistic, exhibited one hundred and sixty pieces of stoneware pottery. Nell Vyse had
the difficult task of teaming Art with Science, to produce extravagant and delicate glazes in a
variety of hues. It was the Vyses complete control of the atmosphere within the kiln chamber

Without such precise control, potters in rare and happy accidents produce such glazes. No
photograph, however detailed, can illustrate the rosy purples that suffused the delicate blue ChГјn

For This Project, I Worked With Brandon Bowers To Begin
For this project, I worked with Brandon Bowers to begin a donation food drive for the local
domestic violence and sexual assault shelter in Murfreesboro, the Bernard House. We discussed
the project and picked the Bernard House in late March. When I called, they said that they
always needed nonperishable food items, and there was a list of items they were asking for
during an Easter food drive that we used in our flyers. On April 5th, I got in contact with a local
grocery store and picked up boxes for us to put all of the nonperishable food in. On April 9th, I
decorated all of the boxes and made them visible and more appealing, in hopes that more people
would donate, with a flyer that Brandon made placed on each of them. Brandon and I then... Show

So, when Brandon came to me with the idea of doing a donation drive, I thought it would be a
good way of helping women outside of volunteering at an organization. I wanted to do something
with a local group, and after seeing the Vagina Monologues this semester and hearing the
monologues about sexual assault and intimate partner violence, I thought that helping women who
have been victims of such violence would be very important work. I found the Bernard House,
which is very close to campus, and got in contact with them. This project has elicited a mix of
happiness and frustration. It made me really happy when people were receptive to what we
were trying to do. Having professors around campus be very supportive and encouraging when
we asked to place boxes in their buildings, as well as the student support we received as we
passed out flyers, explained the project, and asked for donations, was very rewarding. On
occasion, students would tell us how much they appreciated our project because it was for such a
good cause, and many students donated money, which I was not expecting because of the general
lack of cash that college students carry around with them. I feel very passionate about helping
these women, and I want this donation drive to be very helpful for the shelter. So, when people
showed the same passion for the cause, it was very driving and affirming. However, there were

Examples Of Technology In Fahrenheit 451
In Ray Bradbury s novel, Fahrenheit 451, multiple ideas and themes are shown similar between
Bradbury s envisioned society and today s society. Technology, increase in efficiency due to
technology, and thrill seeking behaviors, are all ideas that are portrayed by Bradbury.
Technology is a common similarity that is brought up many times in both Fahrenheit s society and
is often brought up in today s society. When Bradbury wrote this novel, he was concerned that
television would drown out literature in the future as it became more popular. One might argue that
the introduction of the internet and social media has led people to prefer cyber relationships over
human relationships. An example of this in today s society could be the people on the subway
train. We tend to refrain from communication with others and the best way to do that is by entering
our virtual reality in our technology. But, this hasn t happened to an extent portrayed in the book.
Montag, the main character, begins to interact with a girl named Clarisse in the book, she asks him
questions like, Are you happy (pg.10). In Fahrenheit 451 s society, people haven t totally lost the
ability or will to connect to one another in person. Bradbury provides many examples of how
technology has blinded people in his envisioned society. Mildred, Montag s wife, is a perfect
example of how technology is slowly consuming the lives of people in Fahrenheit 451. Everyday

policy as outlined above.
The policy also includes a discussion of student and third party rights, patent, computer programs
and software or business practices and other types of intellectual property, as well as a section on
revenue, administration and reporting. While these sections are necessary to creating a whole
picture when it comes to intellectual property rights at UMUC, they are not vital to this paper and
thus will not be discussed other than to demonstrate the broad scope of the policy.
Distance Course Ownership Strengths
While UMUC based its intellectual property policy on the one developed for the University

instructional materials . While the USM (2009) has a placeholder which states they may at any

dependent materials core to their mission, thus anything created to be posted online is be

Prevention and Control of Nosocomial Infections
Prevention and Control of Nosocomial Infections
A Nosocomial Infection is a very distinct infection that occurs in hospital environments. The work
nosocomial literally means of or relating to a hospital. Also known as hospital acquired infections
(or HAI) these occur in unsanitary or unclean hospital environments and can be contracted by
hospital staff, hospital patients and visitors. Infections can be generally described as bacterial or
fungal. Nosocomial infections will often cause urinary tract infections, and pneumonia among other
things depending on the patient s reaction to the infection.

Gram negative bacteria are completely resistant to antibiotics. These bacteria is a primary threat to
hospital patients with weak immune systems and is less likely to affect staff members.
As for the spread of nosocomial infections, methods include airborne travel, direct person to person
contact, droplets, vermin transmission (or vector borne transmission) and tangible vehicles found
in hospitals. Airborne travel occurs when simple droplet nuclei of microorganisms remain in the air
for extended periods of time. An example would be a sneeze or dust particles. Once these particles
are inhaled by a host the infection can be contracted. Person to person contact is the most frequent
transmission and includes a hand shake, touching, rubbing, patting, etc. Droplets are transmitted
through certain operations involving the mouth, nose or throat, including bronchoscopy as well as
coughing, sneezing and talking. Vermin is also a method of travel for these microorganisms as rats,
roaches, mosquitoes and flies. Lastly, common hospital utilities and equipment, when they are not
properly cleaned, can become a vehicle for contact. These may include medications, hospital
devices, tools and equipment, even water and food.

The Man Behind the Lines Essay
A man of innovation, style, and creator of labyrinthine masterpieces in all media, Alphonse Mucha

Nouveau, Mucha developed a reputation with his posters, architecture, jewelry and sculpture that
had never been seen before; a complex weaving of lines and pastel colors featuring voluptuous
women and a harmony that can only be described as: Mucha style. His graphic designs and posters

He set out to create his own destiny in Vienna building sets for the plays and remained with the
theatre, despite the rollercoaster of hardships and opportunity that proceeded. In 1887, he moved
to Paris from the generosity of Count KhuenBalasi, to study and begin his journey in true art.
During this time Paris was at the beginning of its state of economic recovery from the Franco
Prussian war, so the nation was flourishing and rebuilding with a vibrant optimistic outlook
(Mucha S, 11.) Paris, following the industrial revolution led by Britain, began constructing new
inventions, vehicles, and processes. A prolific example is the monumental building of the Eiffel
Tower for the World s Fair. The world of art was responding to this new boom of wrenches and
gears with: Art Nouveau, a highly stylized and decorative art, framing the importance of organic,
botanical, and true form of the objects. So while the world focused on exact and complicated
features, the artists in Paris were simplifying, making decadence, and flow emerge out of their art.
The one who had the most harmony, intensity and influence in Paris was Mucha. Mucha was
fascinated with another Fin de siГЁcle Parisian movement: allure to the occult or spiritualism. The
followers derived their belief in a World Soul from a mash up of religions including: Buddhism,
Jewish Kabala, Brahmanism, Christian mysticism, and

Debate Process Cost
Why Does The Probate Process Cost So Much?
When the time comes for your family to divide your estate according to your will, your family
will need to go through the costly and lengthy process of probate The larger your estate is, the
longer the process will take, and the more expensive it will be. Why does the probate process cost
so much? These are the different costs that are associated with probate.
Court Costs
Each state has their own set of fees that that court will charge for their services. They can range
between hundreds or thousands of dollars depending on what the court does.
For example, Massachusetts will charge $375 to petition the appointment of a trustee, plus an

A basic estate with no more than a home and bank account can expect to pay minimal accounting
costs. If you have a much larger estate with stocks, bonds, property, a small business, and several
pieces of property, your accounting costs will be much greater. Accounting costs will even cover
filing an estate s federal tax return if it needs to be done.
Appraisal Costs
Your bank accounts are very easy to place a dollar value on, but other things are not. That is
where appraisal costs come in. To determine the total value of your estate, things such as real
estate and personal property will need to be appraised. Your estate will pay for the appraisal fees.
Miscellaneous Costs
Do not expect to get anything for free during the probate process. The estate will be charged for
things as small as postage needed to mail documents and notices. If there are costs associated with
storing, insuring, and moving personal property, those costs will be passed along to the estate as
well.
Thankfully, there are ways to minimize the amount of probate your family and friends will have to
go through. Work with an estate lawyer to find alternate ways to divide your

3d Printing Or Additive Manufacturing
3D printing or additive manufacturing is a process of making three dimensional solid objects
from a digital file. The creation of a 3D printed object is achieved using additive processes. In an
additive process an object is created by laying down successive layers of material until the entire
object is created. Each of these layers can be seen as a thinly sliced horizontal cross section of the
eventual object. It all starts with making a virtual design of the object you want to create. This
virtual design is made in a CAD (Computer Aided Design) file using a 3D modelingprogram (for
the creation of a totally new object) or with the use of a 3D scanner (to copy an existing object).
A 3D scanner makes a 3D digital copy of an object. 3D scanners use different technologies to
generate a 3d model from something that already exists. Recently, many IT companies like
Microsoft and Google enabled their hardware to perform 3D scanning, a great example is
Microsoft s Kinect. This is a clear sign that future hand held devices like smartphones will have
3D scanners. To digitize real objects into 3d models will become as easy as taking a picture.
Prices of 3D scanners range from very expensive professional industrial devices to devices
anyone can make at home. To prepare a digital file for printing, the 3D modeling software slices
the final model into hundreds or thousands of horizontal layers. When the sliced file is uploaded in
a 3D printer, the object

In The Waiting Room Elizabeth Bishop
The poem, In the Waiting Room shown within Elizabeth Bishop s book The Complete Poems
1927 1979 is an engaging and descriptive poem about a child s self coming into adulthood.
Elizabeth, the child, narrates the story from her point of view, reading the National Geographic
while waiting for Aunt Consuelo to be finished with her appointment. The National Geographic
however, is a gateway which portrays Elizabeth s adultside, showing her as a child what is to come
as she grows older. Aunt Consuelo and those within the waiting room during the time when
Elizabeth looks around adds on to this point, making her ask more questions about her own name,
as well as her becoming like her Aunt. Which started with her picking up and flipping through, the
yellow margins of the National Geographic.
The idea behind the book National Geographic is to transport the reader into a location that they
have not been too. For this poem however, it transports Elizabeth to her being an adult. Showing
her what is to come with adulthood, Babies with pointed heads wound round and round with
string; black, naked women with necks wound round and round with wire like the necks of light
bulbs. Their breasts were horrifying (26 31) Elizabeth is horrified with what she sees as clearly
stated, she does not wish to become an adult. To be given these breasts, or even the experience of
a child. But since she was too scared to stop she kept reading till she heard her Aunt.

Baseball Is A Fan Of Sports
The Atlanta Braves Not everybody is a fan of sports. Baseball is one of the most popular sports
in America. Baseball is basically two teams of nine players batting against each other to score
the most runs in nine innings. In order to make a run, he must hit the ball and make it to first,
second, third, and back home. In some cases, he will be able to run all three bases and make it to
the home plate, and that is called a home run. A home run can be up to four points, depending on
how many people are out on the bases. A batter is somebody that hits the ball when the pitcher
throws at him. In order for a player to be out, he has to get three strikes. As of right now, there are
thirty major league baseballteams and the Atlanta Braveshave a long, storied history which
involves many of the greatest players and managers in the 20th century and so far the 21st.
Baseball is not just about the players. Its takes the coaches, the managers, and the players
working together to make a great team. One if the greatest managers to ever manage the Atlanta

Pepsico Case Study
Introduction The Uniform Commercial Code defines a contract as the total legal obligation which
results from the parties agreement as affected by the Uniform Commercial code or any other
applicable rules of law (Liuzzo, 2016, p.106). The purpose a contract is to create an oral or written
agreement between two parties. In the mid 1990 s PepsiCo. ran a promotional campaign Pepsi Stuff,
(nonfps, 2007). The campaign attempts to engage and reward the consumer who bought PepsiCo
products. Consumers would earn Pepsi points for any Pepsi products they bought. When a person

This includes such information as when, where, and why the offer would take place. However,
according to the UCC if one or more terms, are not in the contract the offer may not be invalid as
long as the offer is definite and certain (Liuzzo, 2016). Second an offer must be communicated to
the offeree. This is so the offeree is adequately informed prior to making their decision. The
offeror communicates the offer orally or written to the offeree (Liuzzo, 2016). Lastly, an offer
has to be made with a genuine intention that the offeror will be bound by it (Liuzzo, 2016). The
offer cannot be made in anger or jest or under severe emotional strain (Liuzzo, 2016). For
example, if a boss jokes that he would sell his house to the next person who bought him a coffee,
and then his assistant bought him a coffee, it is very unlikely that she would be able to sue in for
his house in court. Thus, if the offer is not made with any actual intent is not a valid offer (Liuzzo,
2016). Did PepsiCo make an offer?
In order to determine if Pepsi, as the supposed offeror made to be an offer all three components
of an offer must be analyzed. The first requirement an offer has to fulfill is that it is made on
definite and certain terms. The offer did specify the quantity requirement of points to receive a
Harrier Jet in their commercial (nonfps, 2007). In addition PepsiCo also offers the other products in
the commercial that the company did intend to exchange for Pepsi

With the observations, the goal was to become aware of what is in store for the future both within
school and after graduation. First person observed was Sharon, a dental hygiene student at PIMA,
in her 5th semester. To begin her visit, Sharon ensured she had all the necessary paperwork and
materials needed for the visit prior to procuring her patient from the lobby. After sitting the patient
down, she reviewed his medical history with him and took his vitals, she then turned her light on
for an instructor. Once the instructor arrived, she presented the patient and had the instructor sign
off on the paperwork. After the instructor left, Sharon quickly began to continue with an oral cancer
screening (OCS), noting any findings. From there, she took periodontal probing depths (PPD),
gingival margin to cementoenamel junction readings (GM to CEJ), clinical attachment loss (CAL),
and periodontal description. Immediately after writing all her notes she turned her light on for an
instructor to come evaluate her findings, which is called check in. When the instructor came into
the room he sat down and had Sharon read off her findings to him while he did his own exam on
the patient. From there, Dr. Burnett came to evaluate the patient. Unfortunately, the 3 hours had

The first Manifesto I read was The Foundation and Manifesto of Futurism by Marinetti. Marinetti
highlights various concepts behind the futurist movement. Throughout his manifesto he describes
old versus new and personifies several places and machines. Like when he spoke of his automobile
he said We approach the the three panting beasts to stroke their burning breasts, full of love and

behind them. He portrays these engines as demonic, but however his description sounds he isn t
demonizing technology, he is in fact admiring it. He also encourages people to take these risky

Like Marinetti in the previous manifesto, Duxiu also talks about the change from old to new,
however he states Revolution means the elimination of the old and the changeover to the new...
(Duxiu 647) He then speaks about how Europe has their own literary revolution but the people of
his culture do not revolt due to Ethics, morality, and culture (Duxiu 647) He then proceeds to talk
about the revolutions or advancements they had within their literature. He also mentions how other
writers only skills were in imitating the ancients and deceiving people... (Duxiu 650) The whole
thing is basically a criticism of the three mentioned in the manifesto and why European Literature

Analysis Of The Book The Magical Realism
1.The novel fits the description of magical realism because a lot of the concept in Bless Me,
Ultima seems realistic but at the same time some of the other concepts seem much exaggerated,
they are like images that can be imagined in our head, but in the book these things actually
happen in life. Oh, our sweet baby, we are coming home to you Aghhhhhhh! My brothers! I
screamed. I bolted up and found myself in bed. My body was wet with sweat, and my lips were
trembling. I felt a heavy sorrow gagging my heart, and it was hard to breath. Outside I heard the
owl cry in alarm. Someone was coming up the goat path. I jumped into my pants and raced out
into the cold night. There just coming over the slope of the hill were three dark figures (page 61
and 62). This excerpt from the book shows how Antonio was having a dream of his brothers and
that they were coming home but, when Antonio woke up, he realized that his brothers were
really home. In a way his dream was a way of foreshadow. 2.3.In Bless Me, Ultima the owls are
symbolic because the owl symbolizes Ultima s spirit. It was true that the owl was Ultima s
spirit. It had come with Ultima, and as men brought evil to our hills the owl had hovered over us,
protecting us (page 256). This extract from the book shows how the owl connected with Ultima
because the owl was an emblem of Ultima. In the book Ultima s owl plays the role of her spirit, It
was true that the owl was Ultima s spirit. It had come with

Influenza Pandemic And Ww1
Missing Histories: WWI and the 1918 Influenza Pandemic As the horrendous experiences of the
First World War began to wind down, a new terror emerged in the form of the Spanish Influenza
that circumnavigated the world, not once but twice within a two year period. While the general
public commonly remembered experiences of the war in literature, art, prose and memorials, those
of the 1918 pandemic were not. Research completed by this author on the subject of German bias
during the First World War found little mention of the influenza
pandemic in The Burlington Hawk
Eye, the state?s longest continually operating newspaper, published in Burlington, Iowa. However,
the Burlington Public Library Board, in its meeting minutes, recommended the

The Ramifications of Government Reform on Education Essay
America currently ranks 36th in the world in regards to education. This encompasses reading, math,
and science. Education in the United States represents multiple achievement gaps across
ethnicities, income levels, and geography. There are many reasons as to why America ranks low.
The curriculum in the United States varies widely from district to district and stretches from state
to state, which is one of the major problems in why America compares greatly to that of other
countries. For instance, different schools offer different classes. In some schools classes that may
be a requirement for students might not even be an option for others at a schoolthat may be right
across town. This pertains especially to public and private schools.... Show more content on

As a result, states are required to develop assessments on basic skills. These assessments vary and
can be given on any subject with varying frequencies. Because the act does not enforce a national
achievement standard, each state develops its own standards. Therefore, the requirements,
expectations, and achievements are diverse.
The No Child Left Behind Act promotes the idea that competition between schools will increase the
efficiency and effectiveness of the education system. At the same time, the rhetoric of NCLB
maintains the progressive message of the Common School era (Aske, Connolly, Corman, 107) In
essence, it is contradictory. On the one hand the act wants competition so that students will learn
more and want to achieve more. However, it also wants all schools to be on the same level or
playing field so that they are equal. In order to achieve with competition some will have to be left
behind, therefore there is no real way to measure actual achievement with a common school ideal.
The Common School era dates back to the 19th century and states that in America it is the idea or
expectation that all children are supported equally in regards to education and are afforded the same
opportunities. It is based on the view that education should be an equitable, assimilative,

Income and wealth Inequality in Australia Essay
Inequality is present in every economy, but to what extent are income and wealth in Australia
unequal and what government polices contravene income and wealth inequality? Income is
defined as money that an individual or business receives in exchange for providing a good or
service or through investing capital, while wealth is a measure of the value of all of the assets of
worth owned by a person, community, company or country.
Income and wealth inequality refers to the degree to which income is unevenly distributed among
people in an economy. The share of total income received by different groups measures inequality,
this visually represented in the Lorenz curve. The line of perfect equality bisects the graph with the
percentage of income ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This reveals that a relatively small proportion of households have high net worth and a large portion
of households have low net worth, concluding with the simple statement that: The distribution of
wealth is more unequal in Australia than the distribution of income.
The disparities accounted for in the distribution of wealth and income tends to reflect wealth that is
accumulated during a person s working life and utilised during retirement. Whilst this sources the
foundation of inequality, the distribution of income in Australia is influenced by socio economic
factors such as gender, age, occupation and ethnicity. Gender is a common inconsistency in various
economies, during 2013 average weekly earnings for males were $1516 while females earned
$1250, this is still coherent for males and females in the same occupational categories, and is
augmented for opposite genders in different occupational categories. In terms of ethnicity, it has
been recorded that persons born overseas earn more than persons born in Australia, that non English
speaking backgrounds earn less than English speaking backgrounds and the period of residence in
Australia is proportional to the income earned. However, the lowest income earners in the
Australian community are Indigenous Australians and being heavily reliant on government
welfare, earn a substantial loss in income compared to that

Combination Therapy In Contemporary Psychotherapy
Last week, I went to grand rounds and watched a presentation by Dr. Susan J. Waller and Dr.
William T. Nay. Their presentation was titled The Role of Psychotherapy in Contemporary
Psychiatry, which aimed to find greater understanding of the dynamics that have changed
psychotherapy s role in modern psychiatry and medical education. Their present goal was to assure
VCU students and faculty that there are no problems or bias in VCU/MCV psychotherapytraining.
Currently, students are required to study psychotherapy, so Waller and Nay looked to find if it
was a necessary requirement. The lecture started off with a brief history of psychiatry. At it s birth
in the 1800s, psychiatry became a medical specialty to treat severely ill and severely... Show more

Five years later, the therapists were asked to complete self reported surveys based on their honesty,
humor styles, playfulness, and creativity. The effect of these traits on treatment is called therapist
effect or therapist effectiveness and is believed to account for about 5% of the variance in patient
outcomes. That sounds like a small effect, but comparing treatment from the most effective and the
least effective therapists on the study s scale can double chances of improvement. The study looked
to find variables that may contribute to a therapist s effectiveness as to better identify therapists that
with have a higher number of positive outcomes. Many demographic variables (i.e. gender, age,
professional degree) were not included in the study because they have already been found to be
unreliable when predicting outcomes of the therapist effect. The study purposely used the four
distinct personality traits to characterize therapist effectiveness. Additionally, unlike other short
term studies researching the same topic, this study was comprised of 1 hour sessions every week
for a year. The study surprisingly

American Revolution Women s Rights Dbq
The American Revolution was an important sequence of events over a period of time that has
affected early American society up to today s modern society. It all started with the Revolutionary
War, which led to the Declaration of Independence from Britain, and in turn created a reason for
America to write the Constitution and develop their own government. Ideas of equality became a
major point of the Revolution, and although it wasn t very quick to happen, ideas eventually spread
throughout the colonies, giving the equality that poor to middle classes, African American slaves,
and women deserved. After the Revolutionary War, in which American was fighting for
independence from Britain, the most important right that was gained was the right... Show more

It allowed the creation of the Declaration of Independence, in which stated that all men are created
equal, and the Constitution, which was essentially an economic document based upon as
recognizing the claim of property to a special and defensive position in the Constitution (Doc H).
The people who weren t receiving the rights and liberties they deserved were inspired to fight for
them by the creation of these two documents. The discernment of inequality became a consequence
when wealthy, white men were believed to be superior to other genders and races, especially of
lower class. Even though some may reason that the Revolution brought forth little to no change, the
ideas Revolution gave the diverse groups justification to fight for their equality among the superior
higher classes. Poor to middle class, African American slaves, and women were finally given the
right ideas to protect their rights adequately. The Revolution became the period of accommodation

• 4. Adam and Eve and Temptation Essay Kyle Dudzinski Ms. Cecelia AP English 12 20 December 2010 Temptation Temptation has been around since the conception of our Earth. All civilizations, including the Egyptians, the Greeks, the Romans, the British, and even modern day individuals, have fallen victim to temptations that the world offers. John Owen described temptation as a knife, that may either cut the meat or the throat of a man; it may be his food or his poison, his exercise or destruction. A temptation is an act that appears enticing to an individual, but is usually coupled with damaging implications that may lead to feelings of regret and remorse. Temptation is also rabid in most high school settings. Sex, illegal drugs, alcohol, cheating, and tobacco are all temptations students are faced with on a daily basis. Teenagers must each make personal decisions to either refrain from immoral conduct or succumb to the temptations of peer pressure, usually with the hopes of being accepted. The temptations of potentially destructive decisions are immense. It takes a strong willed individual to stand up against the majority and hold true to his values. Not bowing to temptation is a difficult task for any person, but especially for a high school student who is more worried about his own popularity and appearance and has yet to grow his moral fibers. The temptations that the youth of our modern culture experience are very appealing, but their consequences are more damaging than ever before. Temptation surrounds our lives. Daily, we make decisions to either surrender to it or to persevere against it. It takes courage, bravery, and discipline to withstand temptation. William Butler Yeatswrote that Every conquering temptation represents a new found moral energy. Every trial endured and weathered in the right spirit makes a soul nobler and stronger than it was before. When an individual overcomes the temptation of participating in an immoral act, he grows as a person and becomes morally stronger. • 5. 10 Things I Hate About You And The Taming Of The Shrew Hello and welcome respected audience of the Shakespeare Society. I would like to start today by thanking you for allowing me to speak on the topic of how the stereotypical roles of women have changed and evolved in a positive manner since the Elizabethan era. I will start by defining a few beneficial terms before discussing how Shakespeare s Taming of the Shrew has been appropriated by Gil Junger s in the 1999 movie, 10 Things I Hate About You. To make a modern adaptation of a highly recognised 16th century play, one would have to have a perfect mix of both similarities and differences between the two, integrating elements from both eras. Junger, the director of 10 Things I Hate About You has managed to achieve this. By using many of the same characters and the same plot from Taming of the Shrew, he created a modernised appropriation of the Shakespeare play that incorporates aspects of teen society. The Taming of the Shrew and 10 Things I Hate About You are similar in many ways, one way they are different however is how since the Elizabethan Era the nature and role of women in society has changed considerably. The Taming of the Shrew examines the way traditional 16th century notions about gender and its hierarchy are tested and reinforced in tempestuous relationships. While patriarchy rules supreme at the plays end, it s vital to consider the constant attempts to undermine the sexist assumptions about a women s place in marriage. To help in the improvement of autistic spectrum disorder (ASD) many families are turning toward a physical, occupational, and speech and language medical therapy called Hippotherapy. This form of therapy might sound like it involves the Hippopotamus, however it actually involves the use of horses; the root word hippo means horsein Latin. Hippotherapy utilizes an equine s multidimensional movement and its dynamic base of support as a part of an integrated intervention program to achieve functional outcomes in patients with ASD. Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Individuals afflicted with ASD have a difficult time taking the information on where they want to go then telling the rest of their body how they are going to accomplish getting there (National Autism Association, 2012). If the occupational therapist has the individual steer the horse to a specific destination, then the individual must concentrate on how they need to move their hands to be able to steer to the destination. Also to help with hand and eye coordination, the occupational therapist can have the individual ride the horse and grab hanging rings. By utilizing the horse s movement in conjunction with other standard occupational intervention strategies, Hippotherapy addresses and bolsters functional outcomes having to do with an individual s ability to process sensory information such as seeing and feeling the same thing differently or keeping balance (American Hippotherapy Association, 2010). By having the individual ride the horse while facing backward, the individual sees that they are facing backward, but feels the horse moving forward. (Gilman 469) This quote is a prime example of the lack of freedom and control woman in the 1800 s have. The narrator of our short story The Yellow Wallpaper is an excellent example of a Victorian Womanwho expresses the theme of Female Oppression and inequality. Through use of literary elements such as characterization, symbolism and imagery Gilman perfectly illustrates the social issues these women struggle with. Gilman uses literary elements such as characterization and imagery to help emphasize the detrimental effects of female oppression. In the story the characterization helps to demonstrate the struggles between Jane Doe and John. Her husband, John, often demeans the narrator making her appear self centered. Perhaps that is one reason I do not get well faster. You see he does not believe I am sick. (Gilman 468) This illustrates the toxic and unhealthy relationship between John and his wife. John controls her by forcing her to believe all her issues are in her head, causing her paranoia and delusion. Furthermore, this helps express how much power men hold over women and how little control females have over their lives. Another example of how literary elements demonstrate the overall theme of inequality of women occurs when Gilman describes their house through immense imagery. The Essex and Hazel Motes in Wise Blood by Flannery O Connor In her 1952 novel Wise Blood, Flannery O Connor presents Hazel Motes s Essex automobile as a symbol for Hazel himself. The car s dilapidated state corresponds to Motes s own spiritual decay; however, the initial quality of the car s workmanship corresponds to Hazel s Christian upbringing, which he cannot deny in spite of himself. Motes s identification with and reliance upon his car as a means of escape becomes ironic as the Essex continually fails to deliver him from his demons; Hazel s dependence on his car (despite his contentions that he is not concerned with material possessions) actually holds him back. Haze s shut mouthed mother, who O Connor describes as having a cross shaped face, senses Haze s guilt when he returns home (32 33). The amount of variation in a trait within a group that is attributed to genetic factors is called its heritability. For intelligence, this has been estimated at 50 percent. If we know a trait has perfect heritability, this knowledge does not enable us to rule out environmental factors in explaining differences between groups. Because of the impact of environmental factors such as education and nutrition on intelligence test performance, even if the heritability of intelligence is high within a particular group, differences in intelligence among groups may be environmentally caused. Forgiveness In The Novel Disgrace Disgrace is a novel by the Nobel prize winning writer Coetzee set in the post apartheid period in South Africa, a period when people were trying their best to learn to forgive the past wrong done by the oppressive, ethnic government. The question of what it means to forgive is raised in the novel. Forgiveness is seen in the South African society as something conditional, the wrongdoers have to do something so that they can be forgiven. The Promotion of National Unity and Reconciliation Act 34 of 1995 established a Truth and Reconciliation Commission (TRC) to help those victims who were uncomfortable to forgive. It forged a new relationship among amnesty, trust, and forgivenessin forgiving, people are not being asked to forget, but to remember, so that such atrocities will not happen again. In this essay, I will first talk about the Truth and Reconciliation Commission so as to criticise its presumption of the significance of truth revelation. Van Der Poll s Do Hit Chair In relation to the above question, I have selected Van Der Poll s Do Hit Chair (2000 present) as a contemporary work that manifests rebellion in the contemporary landscape. Physically and visually, I am deprived of any realistic or actual representation of the artwork, as I can only analyse the 2D, virtual image I have found on the internet. However, Do Hit Chair heavily involves internet engagement, and this is the exact experience the audience has themselves when purchasing the work. Thus, I have chosen to analyse the web page on which Do Hit Chair is advertised. Demonstrated in the Description part on the web page, the consumer becomes the co designer by creating their own, edited version of the art work. This is further typified by the online sharing options at the top right hand corner of the designers web page. The internet is significant to the artworks interpretation, as the consumer/audience s usage of the internet allows them to purchase the piece and enable them to publicise and even resell their own creations. Accordingly, the artwork (or piece of furniture) becomes a cycle of consumerism. Writing in Walker s Monthly magazine, J L Naimaster reinforcing the mood of the time: Though international crises may threaten us, and vogues may change and novelties may date, but Pottery that is fundamentally well balanced remains static and real in an unstable, hysterical world. It was Nell Vyse s opinion that in such uncertain times that no one could remain sane without using a liberal amount of imagination, only a few of us can materialise our fantasies. The Vyses, ever optimistic, exhibited one hundred and sixty pieces of stoneware pottery. Nell Vyse had the difficult task of teaming Art with Science, to produce extravagant and delicate glazes in a variety of hues. It was the Vyses complete control of the atmosphere within the kiln chamber produced such subtle glazes as the blues and purples ChГјns, the varied greens of the Celadon. Without such precise control, potters in rare and happy accidents produce such glazes. No photograph, however detailed, can illustrate the rosy purples that suffused the delicate blue ChГјn glazes (Fig. 149 p.186). For This Project, I Worked With Brandon Bowers To Begin For this project, I worked with Brandon Bowers to begin a donation food drive for the local domestic violence and sexual assault shelter in Murfreesboro, the Bernard House. We discussed the project and picked the Bernard House in late March. When I called, they said that they always needed nonperishable food items, and there was a list of items they were asking for during an Easter food drive that we used in our flyers. On April 5th, I got in contact with a local grocery store and picked up boxes for us to put all of the nonperishable food in. On April 9th, I decorated all of the boxes and made them visible and more appealing, in hopes that more people would donate, with a flyer that Brandon made placed on each of them. So, when Brandon came to me with the idea of doing a donation drive, I thought it would be a good way of helping women outside of volunteering at an organization. I wanted to do something with a local group, and after seeing the Vagina Monologues this semester and hearing the monologues about sexual assault and intimate partner violence, I thought that helping women who have been victims of such violence would be very important work. I found the Bernard House, which is very close to campus, and got in contact with them. This project has elicited a mix of happiness and frustration. It made me really happy when people were receptive to what we were trying to do. Having professors around campus be very supportive and encouraging when we asked to place boxes in their buildings, as well as the student support we received as we passed out flyers, explained the project, and asked for donations, was very rewarding. On occasion, students would tell us how much they appreciated our project because it was for such a good cause, and many students donated money, which I was not expecting because of the general lack of cash that college students carry around with them. I feel very passionate about helping these women, and I want this donation drive to be very helpful for the shelter. Technology, increase in efficiency due to technology, and thrill seeking behaviors, are all ideas that are portrayed by Bradbury. Technology is a common similarity that is brought up many times in both Fahrenheit s society and is often brought up in today s society. When Bradbury wrote this novel, he was concerned that television would drown out literature in the future as it became more popular. One might argue that the introduction of the internet and social media has led people to prefer cyber relationships over human relationships. An example of this in today s society could be the people on the subway train. We tend to refrain from communication with others and the best way to do that is by entering our virtual reality in our technology. But, this hasn t happened to an extent portrayed in the book. Montag, the main character, begins to interact with a girl named Clarisse in the book, she asks him questions like, Are you happy (pg.10). In Fahrenheit 451 s society, people haven t totally lost the ability or will to connect to one another in person. Bradbury provides many examples of how technology has blinded people in his envisioned society. Mildred, Montag s wife, is a perfect example of how technology is slowly consuming the lives of people in Fahrenheit 451. Everyday Mildred sits in her room surrounded by a wall of ... • 34. 3d Printing Or Additive Manufacturing 3D printing or additive manufacturing is a process of making three dimensional solid objects from a digital file. The creation of a 3D printed object is achieved using additive processes. In an additive process an object is created by laying down successive layers of material until the entire object is created. Each of these layers can be seen as a thinly sliced horizontal cross section of the eventual object. It all starts with making a virtual design of the object you want to create. This virtual design is made in a CAD (Computer Aided Design) file using a 3D modelingprogram (for the creation of a totally new object) or with the use of a 3D scanner (to copy an existing object). A 3D scanner makes a 3D digital copy of an object. 3D scanners use different technologies to generate a 3d model from something that already exists. Recently, many IT companies like Microsoft and Google enabled their hardware to perform 3D scanning, a great example is Microsoft s Kinect. This is a clear sign that future hand held devices like smartphones will have 3D scanners. To digitize real objects into 3d models will become as easy as taking a picture. Prices of 3D scanners range from very expensive professional industrial devices to devices anyone can make at home. To prepare a digital file for printing, the 3D modeling software slices the final model into hundreds or thousands of horizontal layers. Second an offer must be communicated to the offeree. This is so the offeree is adequately informed prior to making their decision. The offeror communicates the offer orally or written to the offeree (Liuzzo, 2016). Lastly, an offer has to be made with a genuine intention that the offeror will be bound by it (Liuzzo, 2016). The offer cannot be made in anger or jest or under severe emotional strain (Liuzzo, 2016). The study looked to find variables that may contribute to a therapist s effectiveness as to better identify therapists that with have a higher number of positive outcomes. Many demographic variables (i.e. gender, age, professional degree) were not included in the study because they have already been found to be unreliable when predicting outcomes of the therapist effect. The study purposely used the four distinct personality traits to characterize therapist effectiveness. Additionally, unlike other short term studies researching the same topic, this study was comprised of 1 hour sessions every week for a year. The study surprisingly ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
