James Dickey All American Poet Essay
James Dickey All American Poet James Dickey was an American Poet whose life has been very
diverse, and in his poetry that diversity is shown. He has a lifestyle that most poets do not get to
experience. He has lived in many states and countries. That gives me the reason to think that his
poetry resembles this life s diversity.
James Lafayette Dickey, III was born in the town of Atlanta, Georgia on February 2, 1923. His
parents were Maibelle and Eugene Dickey. He went to Ed S. Cook Elementary School and North
Fulton High School as a kid, both of which are in Atlanta. He was athletic as a child. He played
football and track, but his football career led him to a scholarship at the University of Clemson, in

for only a year, when he then becomes Poet in Residence at San Fernando Valley State College, in
Northbridge, California. He returned to teaching in 1965 at University of Wisconsin, in
Milwaukee. He only taught there for a year because he becomes Poet in Residence at the
University of Wisconsin, Madison. He received a high honor that only a few poets get when he
becomes Consultant in Poetry at the Library of Congress or Poet Laurate until 1968. He was then
named Poet in Residence and First Carolina Professor of English, at the University of South
Carolina, Columbia. He was then given the honor of the induction into the 50 member American
Academy and Institute of Arts and Letters on May 18th, 1988. He was assigned Chair #15,

USC January 14. He then died January 19, 1997. In his lifetime he had received 9 awards, and has

The Influence Of Television In The 1950 s
World War II ended on September 2, 1945, and citizens in America were dwelling in the postwar
booming economy. Thus, people had a hole burning in their pocket and many entrepreneurs found
a means in which they could supply their products to consumers. Therefore, television became a
method of communication, rather than the radio, the television allowed individuals to watch
events in the comfort in their living room. In the 1950 s a television could be found in almost
every American s home becoming known as the dawn of the television age. A famous sitcom in
the 1950 s which first aired on October 5, 1951 is I Love Lucy. This particular show is the building
blocks of the beginning of television, exposing viewers of the society in the 1950 s, along with the
minimal similarities and mass differences when compared to today s shows.... Show more content

I Love Lucy stared Lucille Ball, Desi Arnaz, who plays Mr. and Mrs. Ricardo and Vivian Vance
and William Frawley who played Mr. and Mrs. Fertz their best friends and landlords. The show
took place in an apartment building in New York City, and Lucy who is a naive and stubborn
redhead always got herself and her husband into trouble. In the specific show I watched from
season one out of six episode twenty one titles New Neighbors. Lucy is curious about the neighbors
who just moved in and she ends up snooping in their apartment and overhear them planning to blow
up the capital and plotting her murder, but Lucy was unaware they were rehearsing a play. Thus,
Lucy ends up getting Ricky, Fred, and Ethel involved, and they all end up in jail until the policeman
reveals the neighbors are just actors. This one show conveys a commutative and family
environment, with conservative information, unlike the shows of today. The society at in the 1950

Analysis Of Man With A Movie Camera
Man with a Movie Camera is a portrayal of the life of the cameraman. Through the eye of the
camera, it also shows the rapid industrialization of Soviet Russia through a glorifying perspective.
The film fits into the socialist realism movement and seeks to paint a positive image of the Soviet
Union before the viewers with realistic images. Knowing Vertov s background as a newsreel
producer for the state, it is rather predictable that the filmwould feature the positive impacts of the
communist revolution on Soviet life. By making this film, Vertov resolves his concern that there
were films about various industries and the making of all kinds of other goods, and there had not
yet been one about cinema (Hicks 178). Through the heroic depictions of the life of a cameraman,
the film industry is exalted as one of the mechanical industries that drive the advancement of the
Soviet Union. Although Vertov stayed loyal to his artistic principle of depicting the reality at a time
when blatantly manipulative narratives were popular, this film is nonetheless a propaganda that
sought to unite the lower class into a common purpose, contributing their strengths and vitality for
the communist industrial revolution.
One of the motifs in the film is the shots of the cameraman at work, often interwoven with the
visuals seen by the eye of the camera. Vertov composes this film with his method called kino eye
that serves to demystify film and strip away the illusion of its unmediated

Prior to independence and up to 2001, the principal tax collection agencies were known as the
Department of Taxes and the Department of Customs and Excise. The Department of Taxes was
charged with the collection of corporate tax, sales tax, personal income tax, capital gains tax, etc,
while the department of Customs and Excise s duty collected border taxes and the so called sin
taxes in the form of liquor and tobacco excise taxes. Economic reforms dictated by the IMF and the
World Bank brought in a wave of reforms in the revenue collection capacities of state and its
agencies. Aside from the introduction and implementation of user fees in services departments such
as schools, clinics and hospitals, the reforms culminated in the combination of the two key
departments to form the Zimbabwe Revenue Authority (ZIMRA), headed by a Commissioner
General. ZIMRA was established on 19 January 2001 as a successor organisation to the then
Department of Taxes and the Department of Customs and Excise following the promulgation of
the Revenue Authority Act on February 11, 2000. Among other reasons for this amalgamation were
the world trends, desire to improve efficiency by reducing bottlenecks and duplication of roles. This
harmonized revenue collection agency worked at purging corruption particularly at border posts, by

Little Italy Informative Speech
Hello everyone. Before I begin my presentation, I d like to talk about a phrase, which is, as you
see, Little Italy. Little Italy is a general name for an ethnic enclave populated primarily by Italians
or people of Italian ancestry. These enclaves became known for their ethnic associations, and cities
with Little Italyblossomed, becoming the icons they are today.
The city I m going to talk about is the region with the greatest amount of Little Italies in America,
the New York City. Thus, the topic today is Italian Americans in NYC.
Before World War One, people in Southern Italy had a hard time. Due to tax burden, soil erosion
and military conscription lasting seven years, a large exodus left from southern Italy heading to the
USA. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This trend has continued to the present day. The stereotype of Italian Americans has been fostered
especially through commercially successful movies like The Godfather, Goodfellas and Casino;
and TV programs such as The Sopranos. In actuality, as recent FBI statistics shows, only one IA in
6,000 has any involvement with organized crime.
The mass media has consistently ignored five centuries of Italian American history, and has
elevated what was never more than a minute subculture to the dominant Italian American culture.
Of course IA in NYC protested against the negative portrayal of their community and sued the
producers but failed most of the time. To be exact, not only Italian Americans in New York City
protested against the stereotype, it s a problem in the whole country. It s kind of a dilemma as the
stereotype has rooted in the mind of Americans and even people in other countries. That leaves us a
problem to solve in the future.
Let s drop this topic for a moment, and focus on the last point

America MUST Drill for Oil in The Arctic National Wildlife Refuge (ANWR)
For a drug addict to quit a drug, the best solutions for the addict would be to slowly wean them
self off the drug periodically. America can be viewed in a parallel way on its dependency for oil.
America needs another source of oil to slowly lessen its overwhelming dependency on foreign oil
and to help the process of finding another mass energy source. The Arctic National WildlifeRefuge
better known as the ANWR is a rich treasure of oil and gas that can help lessen Americas need for
foreign resources. Drilling on the ANWR will not only help the American economy, but will also
help aid America in the future.
Many ask why do we need this oil in Alaska? Is it ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In Virginia alone about 28,000 jobs will be created such as engineers and oil supply developers.
The drilling will affect each state in some way weather it be transportation, stocking,
manufacturing or a vast number of jobs. What better way to help American citizens than making
national jobs instead of creating foreign jobs. Most individuals may think that drilling and
transporting oil on the ANWR will put many animals in danger, when in all reality the animals
and their environment will be subjected to little or no danger. There are many reasons for this.
Firstly, a great deal of oil drilling experience has already been learned in the Arctic area because
of previous drilling done at Prudhoe Bay, which has taught oil companies extensive safety
precautions in the drilling and transporting of oil. Prudhoe Bay which is only couple miles from
the ANWR and currently Americas largest source of oil is said to rival the amount of oil on the
ANWR. Moreover, the ANWR stretches a vast 19 million acres and the only land that is going
to be affected by the drilling is a mere 1.9 million acres, called the 1002 area. That is only 2% of
the ANWR region. Of the 1.9 million acres only 2000 of those acres will actually be utilized for
drilling purposes. Conclusively, this should in no way endanger the animals in this area. Of course
with every issue there are people who are for it and people that are against it, and

almost a year after the first movie of the series was released. The Saw movies are an established
movie franchise. These movies are very dark as well as gory, which appeal to those who are fond of
graphic horror. The first Sawmovies was directed and written by James Wan, the second Sawmovie
was directed by Darren Lynn Bousman. When watching the two Saw movies, the audience can
spot the differences between them. Each movie has a few similar characters. The main characters
in Saw I as well as Saw IIare as follows: Tobin Bell, as John Kramer/Jigsaw, Dina Meyer,
Detective Allison Kerry, and Shawnee Smith, Amanda Young. These characters were constant
between the first two Saw movies. The Saw series is known as movies that over uses gore for
some parts of the movie; nonetheless, the use of the gore causes the movie to be more intense for
the audience watching.
In the first Saw movie, the movie starts, the audience is looking at a dark screen. They notice a
man under water, opening his eyes and rises from the water and screams. The audience then finds
out that there is another man in the room, but they do not know who either of these men are. As the
movie goes on, the audience acquires some background information about both men. They learn the

What Are The Soft Factors Of TQM And Organizational...
Oakland s Soft factors of TQM and Organizational Performance:
Examining the Impact and Relationship
1.Introduction
Total Quality Management (TQM) is a long term process the involves commitment, at all
employee levels, and continuous improvement as to how activities are managed and controlled
by organizations to present quality goods or services that satisfy internal and external customers
need and expectation(Miller, 1996). TQM is a bundle of tools, techniques, processes, principles
and experts practices that over the years has been evolved and improved(Shiba,Graham and
Walden, 1993). To name a few, researchers who significantly contributed in evolving TQM
philosophy and practices, and tool and techniques are: Walter Shewhart, Edwards Deming, Joseph
Juran, Armand Feigenbaum, Philip Crosby, Genichi Taguchi, and Kaoru Ishikawa (Boyer and
Verma, 2010). In spite of differences in their TQM philosophy approach and definition, the
fundamental principal goals of all TQM are the same. Oakland s idea of TQM does not differ either

performance through people. This is what constitute the hard factors of Oakland QTM model, the

Red Blood Cells Lab Report
The experiment confirms the hypothesis as, when compared to the isotonic environment, the sheep
red blood cells that were exposed to a hypotonic environment either expanded or lysed. The
increased ECF s absorbance in the three hypotonic solutions show that more light was absorbed an
indicator of a ruptured red blood cell. Although the 50mM solutionproduced a lower absorbance
than the 100mM solution when the expected amount of the former should have been higher than
the latter, the hypotonic solution still has a larger absorbance than the isotonic solution.
It is worth noting that the hypotonic environments produced the clearest red solutions. In all three
hypotonic environments, high absorbance values in comparison to the isotonic controlled
environment were collated (Table 3). When taking into account osmosis, this could be a result
from the sheep red blood cells rupturing and releasing haemoglobin as too much water was
absorbed (Lluka 2016). The positive control 0mM produced the largest absorbance value most
likely due to the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Thus, the concentration of solutes in his red blood cells (ICF) is lower than the concentration of
his ECF. As a result, the water in the ICF moves into the ECF; causing the cells to shrink (Reece
et al. 2014). In order to treat Baxter, his blood cells must expand to regain their ideal shape. By
increasing the amount of water in the ECF, this will dilute the solute concentration; bringing the
environment back to an isotonic system. However, as seen in Table 3, if pure water (0mM) is
used, the red blood cells could lyse as, to reach equilibrium, the cell will absorb more water than is
required. Since this is a result of the extreme concentration gradient, isotonic saline, where the
solute present is lower than the ICF, should be administered intravenously. This would be a smaller
concentration gradient; an ideal that will allow the cells to expand but not

How To Read Like A Professor Character Analysis
There are several basic plot structures that have been reused throughout literature to create new
stories and ideas, but after all the manipulation and tweaks, the stories still contain the same
overall plot. In this case in How to Read Like a Professor, Mr. Foster starts out his book by
introducing one of the more common story plots, the commencement of a quest. Since writing
builds on what has come before, stories such as Star Wars, Lord of the Rings, and Setup in The
Crying of Lot 49 have similar development and organization because they re all quests.
The plot structure of a quest usually consists of five elements with the end result being the
characters discovery of self knowledge. The basic organization requires a questor that s given

Don T Judge A Book By Its Cover For Frankenstein
Have you ever heard the saying, Don t judge a book by its cover? If not one would answer,
Always read a book cover to cover before you make judgments. Frankenstein is one such book.
While Frankenstein is a book about a monster terrifying a city it is also about compassion, love and
friendship. After reading the book you would discover Frankenstein, the monster, is a loving
creature with feelings and wants to become a part of society.
There are a many compelling themes in Frankenstein. However, two themes running through the
book are not to judge a person for the way they look and isolation can be a devastating thing. No
one should be judged by the way they look. Throughout the story Frankenstein is hated by the

Personality Traits Of Personality Tests
My whole life I have been intrigued by personality tests. I love seeing the results I get, even if
the test is about what type of pizza I am. However, the more tests I took, the easier it was to find
the patterns within the tests. I realized that most of the answers that are supposedly tailored to
me are just general personality traits that could apply to the majority of the population. The
Strengths Quest quiz was not one of these tests. Although I found a few similar questions, the
quiz is so detailed that it is easy to tell how unique each person s results will be. This quiz
showed me parts of my personality that I had never realized existed. When I first saw my results,
I was quite shocked. My top five traits were Maximizer, Individualization, Empathy, Analytical,
and Belief. Maximizer and Empathy did not seem like traits I had, but after reading the
descriptions I see that they are fitting. Maximizer is the strength of pursuing excellence, which is
very true for me. I like to do things I am good at, and avoid doing the activities where I do not
excel. I cling to others that enjoy what I do, whether that be school work, painting, baking, or
simply listening. However, I tend to dwell on the fact that I cannot do everything well. I see others
that can do certain things I cannot, and it makes me feel inadequate. But this quiz has shown me
my fault, and now I can take those doubtful thoughts and make them about how each person has
their own unique strengths. Empathy,

Aluminum Does Not Affect The Quality Of The Air
Aluminum metal reacts with oxygen in the air to produce a thin hard film of aluminum oxide on
the surface. Thus, as the aluminum oxide film becomes thicker, it will absorb moisture from the air.
In fact, moisture is the source of hydrogen, which could affect the quality of the weld (e.g.
porosity). Another reasons aluminum is different from steels when welding is that, aluminum also
does not change its color as temperature approaches the melting point. The oxide that forms so
rapidly on its surface has a melting point around 3,200 В°F, likewise aluminum boils at a lower
temperature at 2,880В°F [3]. The oxide is also tends to be heavier than aluminum, and when
melted, it tends to be trapped in the molten aluminum. Therefore, it is very important

Actus Reus Essay
Actus Reus
Introduction
The Criminal Law of England and Wales means the portion of the law of England and Wales,
which deals with the components and consequences of criminal acts. The English criminal law is
in large part not regulated by law, but in the tradition of common law judge made law. The offense
consists in the English law of Actus Reus and mens rea together.
Actus Reus is the Latin term meaning the act of guilt (the outer or objective of a criminal offense).
This is an essential element in the determination of a crime. Thus, when no reasonable doubt exists
as a result of the demonstration of proof, the act of guilt, shown together with the intention of the

A person can be charged with a crime for not acting, if there is a legal duty to act. For example,
parents have a duty to protect their children from harm. If they fail to take reasonable steps to
protect their children, a reckless omission to act could result in criminal charges. Parents who
failed to feed their children could be prosecuted for child neglect. The duty to act is usually
defined in criminal statutes. Thus, the deliberate failure to file a federal income tax return violates
the criminal provisions of the Internal Revenue Code. Conversely, if there is no legal duty to act,
the failure to do so is not a crime. For example, the failure to rescue a drowning stranger does not
meet the Actus Reus requirement.
Actus Reus in Criminal Law
This principle has been restricted by many exceptions: Failure leads to criminality about it, if the
statute law is merely said that a success caused to be. But also in the field of law is not fixed

Why Are Fossils Important
Fossils can tell us a lot about the organisms that came before us. They are useful in dating when
certain evolutionary aspects were achieved in our past as we developed. Fossils have allowed us
to explore past civilizations and gives a major glimpse into the past. Fossils are a very important
part in the advancements of biological evolution. Biological evolution is the way scientists work to
understand the past, and to piece the puzzle of our ancestry together to understand how we have

of links between different species, and common ancestry between these species. By finding fossils

During Operation Desert Storm, it became evident to the world that there was a new American
way of war and it was arguably a new revolution in military warfare. First, it was the speed in which
entire divisions could move so fast they consistently outmaneuvered the enemy. The speed and
mobility in which the US military drove into the heart of enemy lines put the Blitzkrieg to shame.
Complete air superiority gave US commanders total command and control of the airspace and
denied the Iraqi s the ability to conduct their own ISR. Second, it was the new technological
advancements in night vision and thermal imaging that gave the US military the ability to truly
own the night. Night vision and thermal imaging enabled tank commanders to see the heat
signatures of Iraqi tanks hiding the desert in the middle of the night and kill them. The latest

The Day Of My Sixteenth Birthday
The day of my sixteenth birthday was boring and uneventful. Living with my Aunt and Uncle in a
farm on the outside of town, I was used to being friendless and lonely, but waking up on my
special day and realising everyone had forgotten was and all time low.
Goodmorning, I said to my Aunt, walking into the kitchen. The only reply I received was a slight
grunt and the door banging closed as she headed out to the barn. After getting ready for school, I
packed my bag and started the walk to the bus stop. The day was beautiful, no sign of the foretold
hurricane that was expected and as I whistled I couldn t help but think that today might be an
actually pleasant day.
Man was I wrong, school was a disaster. I guess that when you forget about the football game in
the next town, which the whole school is attending you will be the only one there that day. THe
sign on the locked front doors stated that classes would resume as usual on Monday. Great. My
day just went from bad to worse. The bus didn t even come until 3, if it was still running. Feeling
completely alone but not ready to give up just yet, I treated myself to a cheesy, store bought cake,
if Molly Ringwald had her own pity cake, so would I. Approaching the grocery store I felt the
eerie quiet, as crisp fall leaves blew across the vacant street, a silence seemed to ring through the
emptiness of the town.
Finding the doors locked, typical, I contemplated what to do next, no one was in sight. The only
sound to be heard

America Faces A Wealth Gap

3 March 2015 America faces a wealth gap. Those born in the lower class struggle moving up.
Although the United States has long thought of itself as a nation where anyone who gets
schooling and works hard can move ahead on the basis of their achievement, the facts tell
otherwise. Children born into high income families have about twice as much chance of

In addition, experts on the field argue that the effects of college are powerful enough to boost
the income of adult children from relatively poor families not only well past the income
achieved by their parents but also past the income achieved by many of their peers with more
advantaged family backgrounds who did not obtain equivalent education (Isaacs, Sawhill,
Haskins 34). To put it in another way, obtaining a degree is the best way, perhaps the only way, to
possess economic stability. Now, if we look at it from the country s perspective, education can be
part of the solution to the wealth gap, because the occurrence of poverty in the United States is
directly related to educational level. A college degree is the ticket to the middle class and beyond.
Today, obviously, the idea that everyone should attend to college is indisputable. But there is
definitely nothing magical about its price. As higher education institutions keep on rising its
tuitions and fees.
The overwhelming cost for higher educational institutions is causing a huge concern over whether
higher education will be an attainable financial concept to the ordinary student in the upcoming
years. Many Americans now tend to believe that the path to obtaining a degree has turned into
distraught with financial traps. Recent studies done by the U.S. Department of Education show that
college tuition and fees have ballooned 1,120% since 1978. A year of college tuition for

What Is Thomas Jefferson s Role In Drafting The Constitution
Thomas Jefferson is considered one of the most important people in United States History. He was
the third president, and he even drafted the Declaration of Independence. Many think he also had a
significant role in drafting the U.S. Constitution as well. This just happens to be incorrect.
Jefferson was away in France during the summer of 1787 when this important document was being
drafted. He, however, was still slightly involved, but he put the majority of his efforts in the foreign
affairs that were going on at the time. Because of his efforts overseas to the United Statesand the
other Ministers, Jefferson had little to do with the Constitution but to give his position on the matter.

One would think that he was in full support of the new Constitution, but that was not the case.
Jefferson was sure that the federal Constitution was not close to the excellence it needed to be. He
was sure to make this view and others clear on the matter in the letters that he sent to the members
of the convention over the time span that the Constitution was being drafted. ( One of the most
intriguing might have beens in American History , 2016) Jefferson says in a letter to William S.
Smith that there are some good and some bad articles within the content of the Constitution draft
(Jefferson to William Stephens Smith , 2016). Here, he shows his concerns with the content of the
Constitution. If it was not to hold superb content, Jefferson knew that the United States would be

The Middle Ages Essay
The Song of Roland is the Emblem of the Middle Ages
The Middle Ages was an era of invasions. It was a dark time in England and across Europe.
Where Islam was taking over, the crusades had to take action against that and spread Christianity
instead. Values and beliefs were driven from the church. On the other hand, Feudalism, which
stands for the power of the land was taking over. All these incidents and more inspired the poets
and writers to create literature that expressed what was happening in the Middle Ages. One of these
productions was the Song of Roland it is one of the oldest epic poems that was written in France. In
my view the following points taken from this magnificent poem, focus on the values of this era:
church was spreading wrong conceptions against Islam in order to spread Christianity; rules and
values in society were imposed by the church, when people where believers in god ; land owners
are the most powerful in society, that lead to feudalism; one of the knights merits is complying to
orders; noble knights fight alone when in need for help till the last breath; vicious sins like
falsehood and betrayal are dammed by the kingdom.
The Church was spreading wrong conceptions about Islam in order to spread Christianity; The
Song of Roland purposely draws negative images about the faith of Islam and semi Muslims. And
associated them with devils, in (laisse 78) Rain does not fall nor dew collect. There is no stone,

Police Subculture Research Paper
Police Subculture. How:
The development of the Police Subculture starts with the feeling of being set apart or different
from regular living in the civilian life. Besides occupational solidarity, Police Officers feel
codependent upon each other which contributes to the feeling of being separated from civilian life.
Danger, along with having authority, which are the two primary factors that make up the working
personality of a Police Officer. Both of these elements in combination gives the Police Officer the
understanding that their lives are drastically different from civilians. The main characteristic of the
society of Police is secrecy. Civilians know there is a difference between the Police and them,

Police Officers feel that they can only trust and receive support their fellow officers, including
teamwork. The unity among Police Officers is stronger than that of the unity between Police

are dirty as well as dishonest, especially verbally and physically abusive. The Police Officers
perceive the public as ignorant as well as dangerous, with the attitude of us against the public.
Police Officers are usually judged according to one s race, or ethnic background, especially by the
person s experience during an encounter with a Police Officer. The media does not help the matter
either because Police Officers mostly make the news when they are being represented in a negative

Speech On Furthering Our Nation
Kennedy Wood Mrs. Bradshaw DC English III 28 November 2016 Furthering Our Nation
I.Introduction The current generation is disrespectful, entitled, and has forgotten the journey
America has taken to become the beautiful nation it is today. When walking around the country,
often taken for granted are all the advantages and freedoms America is blessed with. What is
forgotten is who allows citizens of this great country to live a free and fortunate lifestyle.
Blessings are overlooked and forgotten throughout time. Terrorists surround the country, yet it is
still safe to go out on a Saturday night or to the mall safely due to our protectors. Recently in
Venice, California on Memorial Day, the Veterans Memorial, painted on the side of a metro
building, was covered in graffiti. The graffiti could not be removed without destroying the whole
mural and the damage was extensive. Disrespecting veterans and destroying property was the
outcome of this stunt (Gerber and Grad). Soldiers make a hidden difference everyday and many
citizens never step back and realize the reality. The reality is that safety does not come free. It
comes from sacrifices, selflessness, and battles. When troops are on the battlefield away from their
families, sacrificing mentally, physically and financially, not all appreciate everything soldiers and
their families endure. Some Americans still have the audacity to vandalize the memorials built to
honor soldiers, judge mental and physical drains on

Analysis Of Mrs. Richard Skinner
John Singleton Copley s a Bostonian Anglo American Painter who lived in the late 1700s to early
1800s. One of Copley s most infamous works of art is the painting, Mrs. Richard Skinner. This
painting is noted in being a woman named Dorothy Wendell (Dorothy Quincy). Dorothy Wendell
came from a reputable family Quincy family and was wed to John Hancock, a well known political
figure. Copley is trying to convey the struggles of women during the eighteenth century and the
yearn for equal rights which are reflected on the subject Mrs. Richard Skinner. This is shown
through the way Copley expresses and emphasizes Mrs. Richard Skinner femininity. This painting

Mrs. Richard Skinner s dress is very form fitting and looks quite confining, this is how most
women dressed at this time. This is symbolic of the confining lifestyle that Mrs. Richard Skinner
and many other women of this era lived. Copley was notorious for illustrating wealth through
clothing pieces and fabrics. It is evident that Mrs. Richard Skinner is dressed in a lavish gown
which demonstrates that the subject is indeed wealthy. This technique allows anyone looking at
this painting to pick up on this queue, even without knowing the subject s true identity. The
background of the painting is very dark and a reflective of the dark times some women were in
during this time. The dark background and the subject s serious persona give the painting a
mysterious sensation. Mrs. Richard Skinner s clothing pieces are very light colors which give a
light hearted ambiance to the painting but the dark background, dim lighting, and the dark table
that lay before her completely alter the mood of the painting. The lighting of the painting,
therefore, emphasizes Mrs. Richard Skinner even more due to her dark surroundings, which is
another example of Copley s attempt at accentuating her womanhood. Some of the props in this
painting elaborate and stress her sexuality even further. The subject is holding a flower in the
painting; flowers are symbolic of purity and femininity. The way the subject is holding the flowers
is to be noted as well. She is holding

Friedrich Nietzsche s Beyond Good And Evil
Many people have wondered why they were here and what they were meant to do with their
lives. This question is one that Friedrich Nietzsche tries to answer in Beyond Good and Evil. In
this book Nietzsche claims that the purpose of life is the will to power. The will to power is the
will of men to be in charge of others and to be in control. Suppose, finally, we succeeded in
explaining our entire instinctive life as the development and ramification of one basic form of
the will namely of the will to power, as my proposition has it; suppose all organic functions could
be traced back to this will to power and one could also find in it the solution of the problem of
procreation and nourishment it is one problem then one would have gained the right to
determine all efficient force univocally as will to power. The world viewed from inside, the
world defined and determined according to its intelligible character it would be will to power
and nothing else. The quote above is the clearest definition of the will to power. From this
passage, I think that it is the driving force of life. This will to power is the reason for life and is
the purpose of life. Physiologists should think before putting down the instinct of self preservation
as the cardinal instinct of an organic being. A living thing seeks above all to discharge its strength
life itself is will to power; self preservation is only one of the indirect and most frequent results. This

Theme Of Materialism In A Perfect Day For Bananafish
A marriage between a man and a woman is scared. You vow to have and to hold, for better, for
worse, for richer, for poorer, in sickness and in health, until death do us part. This is the conflict
seen in the short story, A Perfect Day for Bananafish by J.D. Salinger. We are provided with
Muriel Glass, the wife that disregards her vows and is more into materialism than the importance
of Seymour Glass, her husband and his emotional well being upon returning from World War II. In
this story materialism as I am using it, is the meaning of being so consumed in physical
appearance or the acquisition of wealth, accompanied with the appetite of material possessions,
rather than with spiritual values. We see the illustration of how the personality of being materialist
versus on one that relies on emotional wellbeing clash and collide. Obtaining a personality like the
one of Muriel generates a blindness to what truly is important in life, especially in a successful
marriage.
Focusing on the Muriel Glass as the main issue, we see a numerous amount of evidence as to
why she is so self centered. Most important so incredibly into being materialist that she totally
ignores signs that her husband needs her emotional support through this tough time. The first
signs we see to prove that Muriel is into physical appearance is on page three where J.D. Salinger
writes, She washed her comb and brush. She took the spot out of the skirt of her beige suit. She
moved the button on her Saks blouse. She tweezed out two freshly surfaced hairs in her mole.
With that we get the knowledge of someone who is definitely vain. We now know that Muriel
uses up her time to look impressive and make sure she is clean cut. Another critical sign that she
is very object orientated is on page eleven during, the telephone conversation with her mother in
which she states, You remember that awful dinner dress we saw in Bonwit s window? ... She had
it on. And all hips. (Salinger) The indication from this is that she judges others based on what they
are wearing. Concluding, that she is into clothing and how it is worn, especially how others wear
it. We even get the sense that she is into luxurious items because Bonwits was a luxury department

Peering Through Spectacles Of The English School, Has...
Peering through spectacles of the English School, has provided valuable insight into the
mechanics of international affairs, in which I had little prior knowledge. I have always believed
that the United Nations assisted countries to co operate by allowing the diversities to be
acknowledged and respected, providing equality amongst the nations, even if relations have
sometimes been strained. The English School are a group of scholars who believe that the state
actors form an international society which helps to establish a co operative environment. However,
society doesn t completely eradicate conflict which I believe is evident in the conflicts around the
globe. During week five, I learnt about the English School as a theory of... Show more content on

With this new knowledge, I will look at international politics with new understanding about the
protocols and judge situations differently. In my opinion, International Politics can be
understood using the distinction of thought carried out by the English School. Bull introduced a
distinction in views of the English School between those who hold more realist views which he
described as pluralist and those that hold solidarist views who are idealistic and believe states
can achieve solidarity (Linklater 2013, p.97). Although I see that solidarist views would be ideal,
I don t believe it would ever be achieved because states have different ideologies, cultural and
religious ideas which shape state s interests. An example would be the Syrian conflict which has
become an international war with various state actors taking part for various reasons. In this view,
when analysing events in the future, I believe the pluralist view is practicable when applied to
world events as it looks at social relationships between states and behaviour, in future I will apply
this perspective to international affairs such as the Syrian war as stated above. The background of
the Syrian War is hidden in media hype which in the past skewed my understanding. As a civil war,
the people opposed the Assad government which ultimately brought in those who supported them
within the international society. Russia and Iran who have relationships with the

The Incidence Rates Of Infectious Skin Diseases
Skin infections are becoming an increasing concern in New Zealand children (Dogra Kumar, 2003)
(Thompson, 2010). According to recent literature, the incidence rates of infectious skin diseases in
New Zealand are some of the highest in the developed world (Williamson, 2014). These rates can be
attributed to trends that are noted in the literature: particularly those that are related to
socioeconomic status(SES) and ethnicity. This essay will discuss first the patterns and trends in
infectious skin diseases that have given rise to inequities amongst New Zealandchildren, then the
adapted Williams model will be utilised to understand what causes these inequities. Finally it will
discuss how we can understand and address the issue of childhood skin infections with regards to
empowerment and access to health services.
TRENDS OBSERVED IN THE LITERATURE
The literature demonstrates trends that have appeared in the incidence, treatment and outcomes of
serious skin infections in New Zealand children. Gray (2013) states that the incidence of
hospitalisation due to serious skin infection almost doubled from 298 to 547.3 (per 100,000 in the
population) between the years 1990 and 2007 (Gray, 2013). These trends give rise to inequities
between different groups, in their likelihood of contracting a serious skin infection (Williamson,
2014). As inequities, these differences are unfair, unnecessary and avoidable through appropriate
interventions (World Health Organisation, 2015). The

Abstract Studying ancient Egyptian tombs have long been an important source of information
regarding many aspects of Egyptian religion. Walls of New Kingdom tombs are often decorated
with plenty of painted religious scenes. While they were primarily private structures containing
images selected by the person who expected to be housed there for eternity, the funerary
monuments also reflect religious beliefs. While numerous researches focused on many of the
religious scenes depicted on the walls of ancient Egyptian tombs, no one focused on the knife
holders scenes. Hence, the current study focused on knife holders scenes depicted on the walls of

to make more friends in school, it stops stress, and you can play soccer in your own backyard.

soccer relaxes you if your parents yell at you. When feel sad, you can think about winning in

The third reason all kids should play soccer is that you can play soccer anywhere. Before i brought
Carmine and Jesse to iplay america, we had a little soccer game in my backyard. For instance, you
could play soccer in you house all you need is a ball and a friend. In addition you can make your
own soccer field in your backyard. For example we play soccer in my play room. This show how
great soccer is and why all kids should play soccer.
Some bad information, I am surprised at is that 10 kids think not all kids should play soccer and
only 6 kids in my class think all kids should play soccer. l think that all kids should play soccer.
This shows why all kids should play soccer. All kids should play soccer because you can make new

Pros And Disadvantages Of Privatization And Its Advantages...
Privatization may have advantages on some business, but it also brings out some problems in
another categories. Firstly, it actually reduces government revenue in long run. The government

Link, these shops actually make profit. Operating them require operation cost but the revenue
generated by selling the products to people and renting spaces for shop owners can cover the

Agency Theory Essay
QUESTION 1 (i)
AGENCY COSTS IN DEBT CONTRACTING
The agency theory examines the relationship between the principle and agent under the assumption
that that individuals act in their own self interest in order to maximise their personal wealth. This
conflict of interest creates agency costs that are borne by the principle. The agency problem is
apparent in debt contacting relationships where the firm is assumed to be acting in the interests of
its shareholders when borrowing money from the debt holders. Agency costs are incurred by the
debt holder when a firm engages in opportunistic behaviours in an attempt to expropriate wealth
away from its debt holder. As a result, the debt holder faces an increased risk of lending the funds
to the firm. There are four common opportunistic actions that firm can take in order to expropriate
wealth from its debt holder
PAY EXCESSIVE DIVIDENDS
Black (as cited in Smith and Warner, 1979) states that there is no easier way for a company to
escape the burden of debt than to pay out all of its assets in the form of dividend, and leave the
creditors holding an empty shell . In this situation, the firm promises the debt holder to maintain a
consistent dividend policy at the time of borrowing funds but later increases the rate of dividends.
According to Smith and Warner (1979), the increase in dividend policy reduces the value of the
debt and ultimately, increases the risk to the debt holders. The firm is being opportunistic because

The Pros And Cons Of The Gun Control Movement
In the words of Dr. Suzanna Gratia Hupp ВЁ A politician stands on the Second Amendment tells

of an unruly crowd that needs to be lorded over, controlled, supervised, and taken care ofВЁ. Both
the pro gun and anti gun movements raise some persuasive and plausible points about their sides.
The anti gun movement has a history of an oppressive, racist and totalitarian way of trying to
control people s right to bear arms which in no way prevented gun violence. The gun control
movement as a whole doesn t care about protecting citizens but it instead wants to give the federal
government more control over its citizens.
The earliest forms of gun control in America had barred the sale of guns to Indians, African
Americans, Catholic, and indentured servants. Now the anti gun movement uses these early forms
of gun control to justify their actions against guns, but the early forms of gun control had targeted
groups and ethnic minorities of people who being oppressed because they didn t want those
groups to rise up against their racist and oppressive system. Spitzer, Robert J. Five Myths about
Gun Control. The Washington Post, WP Company, 21 Dec. 2012. Even after the colonial period in
America gun control such as the black codes were used to suppress African Americans right to bear
arms and it also left them defenseless to the terror that was being imposed on them by white
supremacist groups and corrupt local governments.
The common argument that the anti gun movement push is that high caliber weapons mainly so
called ВЁassault riflesВЁ cause mass destruction and that they kill thousands of people a year.
They also claim that there is no use for the weapons and they wish to impose a nationwide ban on
ВЁassault riflesВЁ. Now to the average American the term ВЁassault rifleВЁ may sound
intimidating but anti gun politicians use this term to scare Americans into thinking that a regular
semi automatic rifle is an fully automatic machine which it is not. The most common rifle that the
movement goes after is the ar 15 which is a semi automatic rifle. Now according to FBI crime
statistics rifles accounted for 285 of murders in 2013,

The Welsh Baccalaureate Individual Investigation
I am fascinated by the complexity of many legal issues and this has drawn me to consider law as
a career. The documentary Common for example opened my eyes to the controversy surrounding
the law of joint enterprise. I particularly enjoy watching such documentaries and following
current affairs and my interest in contemporary issues led me to take Law as one of my AS
subjects. I live in a rural, agricultural area and land law is an area I would like to study further and
having studied Sociologyfor GCSE, I am also particularly interested in family law.
Whilst I am very interested in current affairs, I also feel a deeper understanding of the past helps
me to understand and appreciate present day issues. For that reason I decided to study ... Show more

The documentary Life on Death Row made me realise how our criminal justice systems are so
different to those in the USA and it inspired me to want to find out more about it. I strongly feel
the Welsh Baccalaureate has made me a more confident person by having to present my findings
and work with different people. Through the Welsh Baccalaureate I ve developed many key skills
such as Problem solving, ICT, Working with others and Communication.
Using my initiative, I organised a week long work experience at a Solicitor s office where I
carried out basic office duties such as filing, faxing, answering telephone calls and accompanying
solicitors in court. I found this week of work experience very valuable as it furthered my passion
for law and gave me an insight into the work undertaken at a small high street firm.
This autumn, I represented the School at the Empire Mock Trials in New York, competing against
teams from all over the world. This experience helped me to hone my public speaking skills and
taught me how to see issues from different perspectives. Furthermore, it deepened my understanding
of the workings of the American legal

When the Spanish arrived at the Incan borders in 1528, the Incan empire spanned a great
distance, from Ancs Maya, Blue River, in Southern Columbia to the Maule River in Chile. The
Inca Empire originated from a tribe based in Cuzco under the rule of Pachacuti, the Incan leader
from 1438 to 1471/1472, Cuzco soon ended up being the capital of the Empire. Pachacuti s would
later rule the empire.
The Inca believed that harmony between the relationships of the human being, nature and gods
was truly essential. They had multiple gods, but the main god was Viracocha, the Inca even
considered their emperors as demi gods. They had several sacred objects and locations. The

On the 16th of November 1532, while the natives were in a celebration in Cajamarca, the Spanish
captured Atahualpa by surprise during the ensuing battle. When HuГЎscar was killed, the Spanish
tried and convicted Atahualpa of the murder, executing him by strangulation.
After the Spanish had risen to power and Atahualpa was executed, several of Atahualpa s generals
started rebelling against the Spanish. Quizquiz defended Cuzco from the Spaniards and Ruminahui
burned Quito instead of letting it fall into the enemies hands. Nevertheless, the Spanish remained in
power and within two years, they seemed to be in firm control. However, one of the Incas the
Spanish had enthroned was plotting against them. Manco Inca Yupanqui, one of Atahualpas and
HuГЎscars many brothers, led over 100,000 Incan warriors in an attack against the Spanish in
1536. He besieged Cuzco for more than six months and killed one of the Pizarro brothers before
he was forced away by Spanish reinforcements. He managed to escape and formed a rebel colony
in the mountains, which was not conquered by the Spanish for almost 40 years. During this time
the Spanish were destroying sacred lands, sacred objects, however they did not find the mountain
city, Machu Picchu.
After the conquest ended, 93%of the Inca population had died, according to Wikipedia, mainly
from smallpox and measles, the rest of the Inca were killed by the Spanish.
The conquering of Peru by the Spanish can be compared to

An Analysis of Three Presidential Elections
In this paper, three years of presidential elections shall be analyzed, mainly keeping an eye on the
turnout of voter, and the causes and effects of such turnouts. It shall be observed that voting
turnouts are directly related to the attitude candidate have and the ways in which they make fellow
citizens eager about their potential presidency, and the policies they plan on bringing to the country
that are related to the general public.
The first year of Presidential elections to be analyzed is that of 1988. Records show that in 1988,
in which Dukakis and Bush were battling for the title of President, the turnout was even lower than
the average expectation and only 91,594,686 people showed up to cast their vote. This figure
concludes that 50.1 percent of people eligible to vote came to elect the president of their choice and
the rest did not show interest. (Wright, 1995)
As mentioned the 1988 election was not very successful in attaining the president of the choice of
most American people because a very low number of people showed up to cast their vote. The low
turnout can be explained through several reasons.
First of all, it must be realized that Dukakis was a democratic candidate. It is well known that
democrats usually attract the low socioeconomic population who are more likely to skip voting for
reasons that are not political. However, those with higher socioeconomic statuses, who are less
likely to skip elections, are generally in favor of Republican leaders.

Marketing Taco Bell
INTRODUCTION
The company I have chosen to base my assignment on is Taco Bell. It is a leading Mexican style
fast food chain serving tacos, burritos, signature quesadillas, Border BowlsВ®, nachos and other
specialty items. Currently, Taco Bell serves more than 35million consumers each week in
approximately 5,600 restaurants in the United States of America. It is recognized as the best
Mexican fast food chains in the United States of America (Yum! Brands, 2010). This fast food chain
plans on introducing its products in Malaysia.
MARKETING ANALYSIS (SWOT)

Threats. The threats include external factors that could put Taco Bell s business at risk. In
Malaysia, the main threat rises from its competitor in the same market which is McDonalds. Taco
Bell needs to be constantly revising their prices and menus in order to keep up with McDonald s
offers (Fujinaka, 1996). Besides that, the new researches and the raised awareness among the
publics about the harmful health impacts of fast food consumption is a threat to Taco Bell s fast
food menus. The ingredients such as sugar, oil and salt which are in the fast foods being offered,
are thus consumed in low proportions by the aware and educated consumers (Taco Bell,2010).
MARKETING SEGMENTATION In Malaysia, Taco Bell should cater to a well defined target
market in order to market their product successfully. The major bases for segmentation are
geographic, demographic, psychographic and behavioral. The geographic positioning of any
business is important in the success of a business. In Malaysia, Taco bell should be located in the
heart of urban areas such at Kuala Lumpur or Georgetown where the population density is at its
highest. Climate aspect of the location would not be an issue as the weather throughout Malaysia
is considerably fine. In demographic segmentation, Taco Bell as a fast food outlet should target
mainly to teenagers and small kids as they are the ones who are either

Creativity In Hip Hop
However the first music genre to be popular and based on the process of sampling was Hip Hop,
which first came to life in the 1970 s. DJ s would experiment with the manipulation of vynils
using turntables and audio mixers, creating a new revolutionary form of music. The steady gain
of interest in electronic music in the mid 1970s to early 1980 s contributed to making use of the
art of sampling. Extending from its early start in the Bronx, sampling has been a major influence
and source of creativity in Hip Hop. The genre has often been challenged by outsiders as it
supposingly lacks originality. However, sampling allows the genre to transcend boundaries others
might not be able to surpass. A few examples of sample based work are provided by

Statues In The History Of The United States
Historical Monuments In the history of the United States, there was a conflict because of
controversy over slavery and states rights. This was the Civil War, when the southern states
seceded from the United States because they believed they should keep slavery. The Civil War
carried on from 1861 to 1865. In this time period, both sides had leaders that they looked up to
such as the North having Ulysses S. Grant, and the South with Robert E. Lee. Usually with leaders
people look up to they wish to memorialize them, thus the memorials of these people come to be.
Now in the present there are issues involving such statues, groups of people that believe the
monuments shouldn t be displayed are vandalizing and in some cases desecrating these statues
because they feel they are racist. In my opinion, I believe the statues should stand as a reminder
for history to not repeat itself. I feel that if the public does allow this, then where does it stop? Is
there some way to compromise instead of removing them completely? These statues may have
been put up to memorialize the leaders that were fighting for their right to own slaves, but back
then they didn t know any other lifestyle. According to Mount Vernon Ladies Association, even
George Washington, one of the founding fathers, owned slaves, but he did emancipate them after
his death. The memorials should stand as a reminder for us to not go back to that way of life, that
every human is made equally, that we all bleed red. People

Consumer Reports found that, overall, Geico, Allstate and Progressive had higher rates. State Farm,

  • 2. James Dickey All American Poet Essay James Dickey All American Poet James Dickey was an American Poet whose life has been very diverse, and in his poetry that diversity is shown. He has a lifestyle that most poets do not get to experience. He has lived in many states and countries. That gives me the reason to think that his poetry resembles this life s diversity. James Lafayette Dickey, III was born in the town of Atlanta, Georgia on February 2, 1923. His parents were Maibelle and Eugene Dickey. He went to Ed S. He was then named Poet in Residence and First Carolina Professor of English, at the University of South Carolina, Columbia. He was then given the honor of the induction into the 50 member American Academy and Institute of Arts and Letters on May 18th, 1988. He was assigned Chair #15, previously occupied by novelist John Steinbeck. • 4. Analysis Of Man With A Movie Camera Man with a Movie Camera is a portrayal of the life of the cameraman. Through the eye of the camera, it also shows the rapid industrialization of Soviet Russia through a glorifying perspective. The film fits into the socialist realism movement and seeks to paint a positive image of the Soviet Union before the viewers with realistic images. Knowing Vertov s background as a newsreel producer for the state, it is rather predictable that the filmwould feature the positive impacts of the communist revolution on Soviet life. By making this film, Vertov resolves his concern that there were films about various industries and the making of all kinds of other goods, and there had not yet been one about cinema (Hicks 178). Through the heroic depictions of the life of a cameraman, the film industry is exalted as one of the mechanical industries that drive the advancement of the Soviet Union. Although Vertov stayed loyal to his artistic principle of depicting the reality at a time when blatantly manipulative narratives were popular, this film is nonetheless a propaganda that sought to unite the lower class into a common purpose, contributing their strengths and vitality for the communist industrial revolution. One of the motifs in the film is the shots of the cameraman at work, often interwoven with the visuals seen by the eye of the camera. Vertov composes this film with his method called kino eye that serves to demystify film and strip away the illusion of its unmediated ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Little Italy is a general name for an ethnic enclave populated primarily by Italians or people of Italian ancestry. These enclaves became known for their ethnic associations, and cities with Little Italyblossomed, becoming the icons they are today. The city I m going to talk about is the region with the greatest amount of Little Italies in America, the New York City. Thus, the topic today is Italian Americans in NYC. The mass media has consistently ignored five centuries of Italian American history, and has elevated what was never more than a minute subculture to the dominant Italian American culture. Of course IA in NYC protested against the negative portrayal of their community and sued the producers but failed most of the time. To be exact, not only Italian Americans in New York City protested against the stereotype, it s a problem in the whole country. The Arctic National WildlifeRefuge better known as the ANWR is a rich treasure of oil and gas that can help lessen Americas need for foreign resources. The drilling will affect each state in some way weather it be transportation, stocking, manufacturing or a vast number of jobs. Most individuals may think that drilling and transporting oil on the ANWR will put many animals in danger, when in all reality the animals and their environment will be subjected to little or no danger. There are many reasons for this. Firstly, a great deal of oil drilling experience has already been learned in the Arctic area because of previous drilling done at Prudhoe Bay, which has taught oil companies extensive safety precautions in the drilling and transporting of oil. Prudhoe Bay which is only couple miles from the ANWR and currently Americas largest source of oil is said to rival the amount of oil on the ANWR. Moreover, the ANWR stretches a vast 19 million acres and the only land that is going to be affected by the drilling is a mere 1.9 million acres, called the 1002 area. That is only 2% of the ANWR region. Of the 1.9 million acres only 2000 of those acres will actually be utilized for drilling purposes. Red Blood Cells Lab Report The experiment confirms the hypothesis as, when compared to the isotonic environment, the sheep red blood cells that were exposed to a hypotonic environment either expanded or lysed. The increased ECF s absorbance in the three hypotonic solutions show that more light was absorbed an indicator of a ruptured red blood cell. Although the 50mM solutionproduced a lower absorbance than the 100mM solution when the expected amount of the former should have been higher than the latter, the hypotonic solution still has a larger absorbance than the isotonic solution. It is worth noting that the hypotonic environments produced the clearest red solutions. In all three hypotonic environments, high absorbance values in comparison to the isotonic controlled environment were collated (Table 3). When taking into account osmosis, this could be a result from the sheep red blood cells rupturing and releasing haemoglobin as too much water was absorbed (Lluka 2016). By increasing the amount of water in the ECF, this will dilute the solute concentration; bringing the environment back to an isotonic system. However, as seen in Table 3, if pure water (0mM) is used, the red blood cells could lyse as, to reach equilibrium, the cell will absorb more water than is required. Thus, as the aluminum oxide film becomes thicker, it will absorb moisture from the air. In fact, moisture is the source of hydrogen, which could affect the quality of the weld (e.g. porosity). Another reasons aluminum is different from steels when welding is that, aluminum also does not change its color as temperature approaches the melting point. The oxide that forms so rapidly on its surface has a melting point around 3,200 В°F, likewise aluminum boils at a lower temperature at 2,880В°F [3]. Where Islam was taking over, the crusades had to take action against that and spread Christianity instead. Values and beliefs were driven from the church. On the other hand, Feudalism, which stands for the power of the land was taking over. All these incidents and more inspired the poets and writers to create literature that expressed what was happening in the Middle Ages. One of these productions was the Song of Roland it is one of the oldest epic poems that was written in France. In my view the following points taken from this magnificent poem, focus on the values of this era: church was spreading wrong conceptions against Islam in order to spread Christianity; rules and values in society were imposed by the church, when people where believers in god ; land owners are the most powerful in society, that lead to feudalism; one of the knights merits is complying to orders; noble knights fight alone when in need for help till the last breath; vicious sins like falsehood and betrayal are dammed by the kingdom. Besides occupational solidarity, Police Officers feel codependent upon each other which contributes to the feeling of being separated from civilian life. Danger, along with having authority, which are the two primary factors that make up the working personality of a Police Officer. • 26. Speech On Furthering Our Nation Kennedy Wood Mrs. Bradshaw DC English III 28 November 2016 Furthering Our Nation I.Introduction The current generation is disrespectful, entitled, and has forgotten the journey America has taken to become the beautiful nation it is today. When walking around the country, often taken for granted are all the advantages and freedoms America is blessed with. What is forgotten is who allows citizens of this great country to live a free and fortunate lifestyle. Blessings are overlooked and forgotten throughout time. Terrorists surround the country, yet it is still safe to go out on a Saturday night or to the mall safely due to our protectors. Recently in Venice, California on Memorial Day, the Veterans Memorial, painted on the side of a metro building, was covered in graffiti. The graffiti could not be removed without destroying the whole mural and the damage was extensive. Disrespecting veterans and destroying property was the outcome of this stunt (Gerber and Grad). Soldiers make a hidden difference everyday and many citizens never step back and realize the reality. The reality is that safety does not come free. It comes from sacrifices, selflessness, and battles. When troops are on the battlefield away from their families, sacrificing mentally, physically and financially, not all appreciate everything soldiers and their families endure. Some Americans still have the audacity to vandalize the memorials built to honor soldiers, judge mental and physical drains on ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

One of Copley s most infamous works of art is the painting, Mrs. Richard Skinner. This painting is noted in being a woman named Dorothy Wendell (Dorothy Quincy). Dorothy Wendell came from a reputable family Quincy family and was wed to John Hancock, a well known political figure. Copley is trying to convey the struggles of women during the eighteenth century and the yearn for equal rights which are reflected on the subject Mrs. Richard Skinner. This is symbolic of the confining lifestyle that Mrs. Richard Skinner and many other women of this era lived. Copley was notorious for illustrating wealth through clothing pieces and fabrics. It is evident that Mrs. Richard Skinner is dressed in a lavish gown which demonstrates that the subject is indeed wealthy. This technique allows anyone looking at this painting to pick up on this queue, even without knowing the subject s true identity. The background of the painting is very dark and a reflective of the dark times some women were in during this time. The dark background and the subject s serious persona give the painting a mysterious sensation. Mrs. Richard Skinner s clothing pieces are very light colors which give a light hearted ambiance to the painting but the dark background, dim lighting, and the dark table that lay before her completely alter the mood of the painting. The lighting of the painting, therefore, emphasizes Mrs. Richard Skinner even more due to her dark surroundings, which is another example of Copley s attempt at accentuating her womanhood. Some of the props in this painting elaborate and stress her sexuality even further. The subject is holding a flower in the painting; flowers are symbolic of purity and femininity. • 28. Friedrich Nietzsche s Beyond Good And Evil Many people have wondered why they were here and what they were meant to do with their lives. This question is one that Friedrich Nietzsche tries to answer in Beyond Good and Evil. In this book Nietzsche claims that the purpose of life is the will to power. The will to power is the will of men to be in charge of others and to be in control. Suppose, finally, we succeeded in explaining our entire instinctive life as the development and ramification of one basic form of the will namely of the will to power, as my proposition has it; suppose all organic functions could be traced back to this will to power and one could also find in it the solution of the problem of procreation and nourishment it is one problem then one would have gained the right to determine all efficient force univocally as will to power. The world viewed from inside, the world defined and determined according to its intelligible character it would be will to power and nothing else. The quote above is the clearest definition of the will to power. From this passage, I think that it is the driving force of life. This will to power is the reason for life and is the purpose of life. Physiologists should think before putting down the instinct of self preservation as the cardinal instinct of an organic being. A living thing seeks above all to discharge its strength life itself is will to power; self preservation is only one of the indirect and most frequent results. This ... • 29. Theme Of Materialism In A Perfect Day For Bananafish A marriage between a man and a woman is scared. You vow to have and to hold, for better, for worse, for richer, for poorer, in sickness and in health, until death do us part. This is the conflict seen in the short story, A Perfect Day for Bananafish by J.D. Salinger. We are provided with Muriel Glass, the wife that disregards her vows and is more into materialism than the importance of Seymour Glass, her husband and his emotional well being upon returning from World War II. In this story materialism as I am using it, is the meaning of being so consumed in physical appearance or the acquisition of wealth, accompanied with the appetite of material possessions, rather than with spiritual values. We see the illustration of how the personality of being materialist versus on one that relies on emotional wellbeing clash and collide. Obtaining a personality like the one of Muriel generates a blindness to what truly is important in life, especially in a successful marriage. Focusing on the Muriel Glass as the main issue, we see a numerous amount of evidence as to why she is so self centered. Most important so incredibly into being materialist that she totally ignores signs that her husband needs her emotional support through this tough time. The first signs we see to prove that Muriel is into physical appearance is on page three where J.D. Salinger writes, She washed her comb and brush. She took the spot out of the skirt of her beige suit. She moved the button on her Saks blouse. She tweezed out two freshly surfaced hairs in her mole. With that we get the knowledge of someone who is definitely vain. We now know that Muriel uses up her time to look impressive and make sure she is clean cut. Another critical sign that she is very object orientated is on page eleven during, the telephone conversation with her mother in which she states, You remember that awful dinner dress we saw in Bonwit s window? ... She had it on. And all hips. (Salinger) The indication from this is that she judges others based on what they are wearing. Concluding, that she is into clothing and how it is worn, especially how others wear it. We even get the sense that she is into luxurious items because Bonwits was a luxury department store in ... In my opinion, International Politics can be understood using the distinction of thought carried out by the English School. Bull introduced a distinction in views of the English School between those who hold more realist views which he described as pluralist and those that hold solidarist views who are idealistic and believe states can achieve solidarity (Linklater 2013, p.97). Although I see that solidarist views would be ideal, I don t believe it would ever be achieved because states have different ideologies, cultural and religious ideas which shape state s interests. An example would be the Syrian conflict which has become an international war with various state actors taking part for various reasons. In this view, when analysing events in the future, I believe the pluralist view is practicable when applied to world events as it looks at social relationships between states and behaviour, in future I will apply this perspective to international affairs such as the Syrian war as stated above. The background of the Syrian War is hidden in media hype which in the past skewed my understanding. According to recent literature, the incidence rates of infectious skin diseases in New Zealand are some of the highest in the developed world (Williamson, 2014). These rates can be attributed to trends that are noted in the literature: particularly those that are related to socioeconomic status(SES) and ethnicity. This essay will discuss first the patterns and trends in infectious skin diseases that have given rise to inequities amongst New Zealandchildren, then the adapted Williams model will be utilised to understand what causes these inequities. Finally it will discuss how we can understand and address the issue of childhood skin infections with regards to empowerment and access to health services. TRENDS OBSERVED IN THE LITERATURE The literature demonstrates trends that have appeared in the incidence, treatment and outcomes of serious skin infections in New Zealand children. Gray (2013) states that the incidence of hospitalisation due to serious skin infection almost doubled from 298 to 547.3 (per 100,000 in the population) between the years 1990 and 2007 (Gray, 2013). These trends give rise to inequities between different groups, in their likelihood of contracting a serious skin infection (Williamson, 2014). As inequities, these differences are unfair, unnecessary and avoidable through appropriate interventions (World Health Organisation, 2015). The ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 41. Agency Theory Essay QUESTION 1 (i) AGENCY COSTS IN DEBT CONTRACTING The agency theory examines the relationship between the principle and agent under the assumption that that individuals act in their own self interest in order to maximise their personal wealth. This conflict of interest creates agency costs that are borne by the principle. The agency problem is apparent in debt contacting relationships where the firm is assumed to be acting in the interests of its shareholders when borrowing money from the debt holders. Agency costs are incurred by the debt holder when a firm engages in opportunistic behaviours in an attempt to expropriate wealth away from its debt holder. As a result, the debt holder faces an increased risk of lending the funds to the firm. There are four common opportunistic actions that firm can take in order to expropriate wealth from its debt holder PAY EXCESSIVE DIVIDENDS Black (as cited in Smith and Warner, 1979) states that there is no easier way for a company to escape the burden of debt than to pay out all of its assets in the form of dividend, and leave the creditors holding an empty shell . In this situation, the firm promises the debt holder to maintain a consistent dividend policy at the time of borrowing funds but later increases the rate of dividends. According to Smith and Warner (1979), the increase in dividend policy reduces the value of the debt and ultimately, increases the risk to the debt holders. Both the pro gun and anti gun movements raise some persuasive and plausible points about their sides. The anti gun movement has a history of an oppressive, racist and totalitarian way of trying to control people s right to bear arms which in no way prevented gun violence. The gun control movement as a whole doesn t care about protecting citizens but it instead wants to give the federal government more control over its citizens. The earliest forms of gun control in America had barred the sale of guns to Indians, African Americans, Catholic, and indentured servants. Now the anti gun movement uses these early forms of gun control to justify their actions against guns, but the early forms of gun control had targeted groups and ethnic minorities of people who being oppressed because they didn t want those groups to rise up against their racist and oppressive system. Spitzer, Robert J. Five Myths about Gun Control. The Washington Post, WP Company, 21 Dec. 2012. Even after the colonial period in America gun control such as the black codes were used to suppress African Americans right to bear arms and it also left them defenseless to the terror that was being imposed on them by white supremacist groups and corrupt local governments. The common argument that the anti gun movement push is that high caliber weapons mainly so called ВЁassault riflesВЁ cause mass destruction and that they kill thousands of people a year. They also claim that there is no use for the weapons and they wish to impose a nationwide ban on ВЁassault riflesВЁ. • 45. An Analysis of Three Presidential Elections In this paper, three years of presidential elections shall be analyzed, mainly keeping an eye on the turnout of voter, and the causes and effects of such turnouts. It shall be observed that voting turnouts are directly related to the attitude candidate have and the ways in which they make fellow citizens eager about their potential presidency, and the policies they plan on bringing to the country that are related to the general public. The first year of Presidential elections to be analyzed is that of 1988. Records show that in 1988, in which Dukakis and Bush were battling for the title of President, the turnout was even lower than the average expectation and only 91,594,686 people showed up to cast their vote. This figure concludes that 50.1 percent of people eligible to vote came to elect the president of their choice and the rest did not show interest. (Wright, 1995) As mentioned the 1988 election was not very successful in attaining the president of the choice of most American people because a very low number of people showed up to cast their vote. The low turnout can be explained through several reasons. First of all, it must be realized that Dukakis was a democratic candidate. It is well known that democrats usually attract the low socioeconomic population who are more likely to skip voting for reasons that are not political. However, those with higher socioeconomic statuses, who are less likely to skip elections, are generally in favor of Republican leaders. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

In Malaysia, the main threat rises from its competitor in the same market which is McDonalds. Taco Bell needs to be constantly revising their prices and menus in order to keep up with McDonald s offers (Fujinaka, 1996). Besides that, the new researches and the raised awareness among the publics about the harmful health impacts of fast food consumption is a threat to Taco Bell s fast food menus. The ingredients such as sugar, oil and salt which are in the fast foods being offered, are thus consumed in low proportions by the aware and educated consumers (Taco Bell,2010). MARKETING SEGMENTATION In Malaysia, Taco Bell should cater to a well defined target market in order to market their product successfully. The major bases for segmentation are geographic, demographic, psychographic and behavioral. The geographic positioning of any business is important in the success of a business. In Malaysia, Taco bell should be located in the heart of urban areas such at Kuala Lumpur or Georgetown where the population density is at its highest. • 50. Statues In The History Of The United States Historical Monuments In the history of the United States, there was a conflict because of controversy over slavery and states rights. This was the Civil War, when the southern states seceded from the United States because they believed they should keep slavery. The Civil War carried on from 1861 to 1865. In this time period, both sides had leaders that they looked up to such as the North having Ulysses S. Grant, and the South with Robert E. Lee. Usually with leaders people look up to they wish to memorialize them, thus the memorials of these people come to be. Now in the present there are issues involving such statues, groups of people that believe the monuments shouldn t be displayed are vandalizing and in some cases desecrating these statues because they feel they are racist. In my opinion, I believe the statues should stand as a reminder for history to not repeat itself. I feel that if the public does allow this, then where does it stop? Is there some way to compromise instead of removing them completely? These statues may have been put up to memorialize the leaders that were fighting for their right to own slaves, but back then they didn t know any other lifestyle. According to Mount Vernon Ladies Association, even George Washington, one of the founding fathers, owned slaves, but he did emancipate them after his death. The memorials should stand as a reminder for us to not go back to that way of life, that every human is made equally, that we all bleed red. People ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
