The Kernel Of Roman Society
Rosemaria Varghese

Critical Paper II
Paterfamilias: the Kernel of Roman society
Introduction
In the Latin epic poem The Aeneid, the legendary poet Virgil presented various central moral
principles that the Roman civilization fostered and adhered during his epoch. However, the discernible
emphasis that Virgil placed on the relationships of fathers and sons highlights the underlying
signification that these relationships became the genesis of Roman society. Virgil cogently rendered
multifaceted father son relationships that the Roman society upheld by exhibiting how Aeneas endures
as the progenitor to the diasporic Trojan populace, how two princes demise for their fathers ideals, and
how astute fathers applaud and condemn from beyond the grave.
Patriarch for his people Primarily, Virgil revealed Aeneas, the protagonist of The Aeneid, as a loving
father to his son Ascanius, and a dutiful patriarch to the disbanded Trojans. Firstly, Virgil depicts
Aeneas as an affectionate father Aeneas and fond father, always thoughtful of his son (The Aeneid,
Virgil, B. I, 877 881). The paternal responsibility Aeneas have for his son later magnifies not only
towards the exiled Trojans under his care, but also to the whole Roman civilization to come. In the
beginning of Book I, Aeneas emerges as a fugitive captain driven by destiny, and a man devoted to his
mission to find a city for his gods and his people (The Aeneid, Virgil, B. I, 5 16). The destiny that
Aeneas is to

Vlad the Impaler
A man that had a lot of power, was brilliant, was the prince of a country at one time, and a mastermind
of torture. All of these words are describing Vlad Dracula, otherwise known as Vlad the Impaler. [The
middle ages have produced numerous legends and heroes that remain very much a part of our
contemporary culture; one need only to refer to the Tales of King Arthur and his Knights of the Round
Table or of the outlaw Robin Hood,...Amidst the struggle to halt the Ottoman onslaught in
Southeastern Europe the historical figure of Vlad Dracula arose to become a legend in his own time]

When Vlad was twelve years old he had experienced something that would sculpted his life
completely, and made him become this evil mastermind with no feelings of remorse. When an officer
[approached the bed and made a gesture to the guards. Instantly strong hands put Radu [Vlad s
brother] on his belly, pulling upward to raise his hips as one man applied oil of attar to the anus that
had previously been enlarged by the insertion of ivory pegs. The boys eyes were glistening with tears
now as his buttocks were opened to allow his ravisher full access to him. Murad stripped. When he
mounted Radu and penetrated him, the boy screamed, though more from fright than pain.... Prince
Vlad ignored this outrageous sodomizing of his brother. Even when the sultan had finished and he
himself was taken by all three officers in turn, he did the utmost not to let them see his anguish, not to
cry out or release tears which shame and humiliation brought welling into his eyes. But there was no
dignity left him now that it had happened, no maintaining his princely demeanor, no saving of his
honor. There was only the acute sense of fullness to bursting, of being used unmercifully, of
degradation and submission and defeat. It seemed to go on and on eternally, until sobs were wrung
from him and childish curses flung at the damascened wall. And while they did this to him,
commenting obscenely on his surrender and his helplessness, angry

Palo Devo Healthcare Case
The Palo Verde Healthcare District (along with three of its board members) were happy to receive a
victorious result recently from the U.S. District Court s final ruling in their favor. The court ruled that
the plaintiffs in the retaliation lawsuit, Peter Klune, Dennis Rutherford and Tara Barth, were not able
to sufficiently prove their claims of retaliation. In their ruling, the court made it clear that they felt that
the plaintiffs failed to meet the burden of proof against the hospital and the three board members:

Wes Anderson s The Grand Budapest Hotel
Wes Anderson s The Grand Budapest Hotel (2014), is a narrative that takes the form of many stories
within another. Considered a film masterpiece not only for its use of thoughtful comedy but also for
the way in which the film was enhanced through the use of camera angles. Love and death, romance
and horror, comedy and tragedy duel to an elegant draw in Wes Anderson s rich torte of a movie , as
stated by Richard Corliss from Time Magazine. The constant use of straight angles gives the film an
unmistakably elegant quality. Cinematographically, this film was created with great precision, making
it feel more like a theater performance rather than a film. The use of thoughtful and quirky humor
truly brings this picture to life, making The Grand Budapest Hotel truly grand. The use of thoughtful
comedy throughout serves several purposes. The characters are an example of this, through their
representations they are able to create specific correlations that are key to the film overall. It is
through their mannerisms and quirky, thoughtful humor that the characters are brought to life. This
film allocates the use of camera angles thus allowing it an elegant feature, while humor is used to
create a ...real, funny, sad movie whose performances are as alert and finely composed as the décor .
Richard Corliss, from Time Magazine, states that the film is a dizzyingly complex machine whose
workings are a delight to behold, the movie has a wry smile for frailties, a watchful eye for

Why Is Electronic Voting Wrong

Junior Research Period 2
Mr. Larkin
26 October 2017. Electronic Voting Machines Moving away from electronic voting and finding an
alternate way to vote that is the most precise and secure course of action.
Voting is the process by which a person or group of people formally express their opinion. In the U.S.,
a citizen must be at least 18 years for them to vote, and voting is voluntary; a person can t be forced to
vote nor can he or she force anyone person to vote because it is a crime. The laws surrounding voting
are different in each state and as such each voter is required to register in the voting precinct in which

Also contributing to the margin of error is the fact that many electronic machines don t keep paper
records of the votes that are inputted into the systems, and Because many of these machines have no
paper audit trails, a large number of votes will never be counted, (Elizabeth Weise). Also having no
paper records mean that a ballot can be hacked and changed and no one will know what the original
was and have no evidence that it was hacked. Although voting machines have advanced and changed
over the decades, many voting booth today still use outdated machines. Security risks are the number
one danger of older technology. The older your operating system or application, the longer the bad guy
hackers have to find and exploit vulnerabilities (Rack Blogger), while officials are still using voting
machines from 2000 2004, today.
While electronic voting machines have its fair share of dangerous internal problems, the external
problems are seem to make the internal problems seem like childs play. Some of the external problems
of electronic voting machines are as follows; physical tampering, which covers how hackers can
physically hack the machines why at these voting booth when left alone with these machines, and the
problems that those who moniter the machines might face; cyber attacks whether from other countries

Phenomenology used in Qualitative Research
Phenomenology used in Qualitative Research Many phenomenological methodologies have been
developed and used by qualitative researchers to review individuals experiences. Phenomenology for
organizational research, descriptive phenomenological method, hermeneutic phenomenology,
interpretive phenomenology, and interpretative phenomenological analysis are the five popular
phenomenological methodologies in qualitative inquiry. Phenomenology for organizational research.
Phenomenology for organizational research was presented by Patricia Sanders in 1982. It is one of the
most popular phenomenological approaches to organize quality research. Sanders (1982) pointed out
that phenomenology for organizational research was a research technique that sought to make explicit
the implicit structure and meaning of human experiences (p. 354). Kram and Isabella (1985) used
phenomenology for organizational research in their pioneering research: Mentoring Alternatives: The
Role of Peer Relationships in Career Development to inform their data analysis. Descriptive
phenomenological method. As a thoroughly developed phenomenology, the descriptive
phenomenological method was first presented by Amedeo Giorgi in 1985. On the basis of Husserl s
phenomenological philosophy, Giorgi (1997) created the descriptive phenomenological method, which
is a psychological phenomenology to provide rigorous guidelines for quality research. To found a
particular psychological phenomenon was the aim of

Analysis Of The Picture Of Dorian Gray

Irony in The Picture of Dorian Gray
More often than not, it is hard to face the consciousness of the inevitable. Everyone feels the distress
of realizing that time is fleeting and they will soon grow old and wrinkly, no longer their youthful self.
The Picture of Dorian Gray, by Oscar Wilde, illustrates this human condition specifically through the
main character Dorian Gray. Mr. Gray captures the artistic imagination of artist Basil Howard, who
constantly paints portraits of Dorian. Basil usually depicts Dorian as an ancient Greek hero or a
mythological creature, but when he completes his first portrait of Dorian for who he truly is he is
disappointed because he feels as though this painting reveals too much about his subject. Dorian on
the other hand goes to the extreme when he sees this portrait. Worrisome, Dorian believes that one day
the portrait will remind him of his former beautiful and young self. Out of anguish, he curses the
portrait, ultimately selling his soul to spare himself of the burdens of age and infamy, allowing him to
stay forever young. In his novella, The Picture of Dorian Gray, Oscar Wilde uses irony to exemplify
an anomaly between the aging process of Dorian Gray in contrast with that of the portrait of himself,
particularly in a society that prizes beauty and youth.
Dorian s first big act of cruelty begins when he inconsiderately calls of his engagement with Sibyl
Vane, a beautiful actress. Sibyl

Comparing Joy Luck Club And The Woman Warrior
Comparing The Joy Luck Club and The Woman Warrior
Amy Tan s immensely popular novel, The Joy Luck Club explores the issues faced by first and second
generation Chinese immigrants, particularly mothers and daughters. Although Tan s book is a work of
fiction, many of the struggles it describes are echoed in Maxine Hong Kingston s autobiographical
work, The Woman Warrior: Memoirs of a Girlhood Among Ghosts. The pairs of mothers and
daughters in both of these books find themselves separated along both cultural and generational lines.
Among the barriers that must be overcome are those of language, beliefs and customs, and geographic
loyalty. The gulf between these women is sadly acknowledged by Ying ying St. Clair when she says of

Communication becomes impossible (Huntley 46).
This anecdote sets the stage for conflict between the Chinese mothers and their American daughters.
The issue of the language barrier is a constant theme in both The Joy Luck Club and The Woman
Warrior. In the immigrant narrative, English plays a major role in assimilating into the new world. For
Tan, the struggle between Chinese and English haunts both her real life and her fiction. Tan herself
stopped speaking Chinese at age five, though she has never lost her first language entirely (Amy). Her
mother, Daisy, however, speaks in a combination [...] of English and Mandarin (Huntley 3). Tan was
taunted in grade school for her mother s heavy Shanghai accent (Huntley 3). Because Daisy never
became fluent in English, the linguistic friction merely escalated between the two women (Amy). Tan
expresses this tension in her novel when the fictional Jing mei admits that she has trouble
understanding her mother s meaning, and empathizes with her aunties who see daughters who grow
impatient when their mothers talk in Chinese, who think they are stupid when they explain things in
fractured English (Tan 40 1). The stresses of a bilingual relationship are further explored when Lena
St. Clair finds herself acting as translator between her Chinese mother and English Irish father, who
each refuse to learn the other s language, placing their daughter in the cultural crossfire (Tan

How The English Changed North America Essay
For civilization to evolve, changes must be made. Imagine what the world would be like if the Natives
were just alone and no country migrated to North America. Would technology even exist? Would the
main weapons be just spears and arrows? Would medicine be invented so people could live long lives
without dying of diseases? These are questions that will never have to be answered because the world
evolved into a much bigger and better place. The English changed North America no matter what the
cost was. Some may argue that the English are the ones to blame for King Phillip s War, but that is not
the case here. The Indians did not want change and overall, it did not work out real well for them. In
this case, the war was brutal on both sides. The Natives did not change their customs as much as the
English wanted them to. By not assimilating to European values and customs, the Natives caused the
war over hatred of English values and traditions and made the world a dangerous place to live in.
Daniel Richter was the author of Facing East from Indian Country and Jill Lepore wrote The Name of
War. Lepore made some very interesting points that will be discussed that can make the Natives look
like savages, but the English were not angels either. King Phillip s War is one of the most brutal wars
in America and there really was not anything good about it. Mistakes were made and history was
changed. Richter took a standpoint that focused on the English pushing away the

Capital Punishment And The Death Penalty Essay
Capital punishment, or the death penalty, is the lawful infliction of death as a punishment.
(thefreedictionary.com). The topic is quite controversial, as its merits and effectiveness as a deterrent
for crime have been argued many times over. However, the death penalty is perfectly within reason, as
it rids the streets of criminals that have committed serious crimes and is also cheaper for the
government versus giving life sentences. Even so, there are many who are against the death penalty.
One such argument that has been made is that the death penalty is barbaric because many innocents
have been sent to their deaths. Although this would be true if these opposers lived before 1986, that is
not the case in today s world because there is access to DNA tests and profiling. According to
www.interpol.int, Deoxyribonucleic acid (DNA) molecules contain the information all living cells in
the human body need to function. They also control the inheritance of characteristics from parents to
offspring. (interpol.int). DNA profiling play important roles in crimes as it has the potential to link a
series of crimes and to place a suspect at the scene of a crime. Not only that, but also DNA can help to
prove a suspect s innocence. With DNA testing, no innocent person will die from the death penalty
simply because DNA tests can be used as concrete evidence to prove the suspect s innocence.
To start off, one should know what exactly DNA profiling is and its use for prosecution.

Cosi by Louis Nowra
How does Nowra use the opera Cosi fan Tutte to explore the play s main ideas?
Set in a typical mental asylum in the 1970 s during the anti Vietnam War protests and the feminist
movement for women s equal rights, the play Cosi by Louis Nowra deeply explores the themes of love
and fidelity, in a society predominantly concerned with war and politics. Throughout the play, Nowra
uses the play within a play, Cosi Fan Tutte , to convey his key values regarding the importance of love
and fidelity in today s world, while questioning the necessity of war and condemning society s
perceptions of madness itself. The playwright delivers these messages through a number of subtle
implications and symbolic features which are evident in the story, ... Show more content on

This very much represents the physical crossing from the normal world into a world which is not seen
from the outside, and pushed to the edge of society, and further resembles a glimpse of hope for the

theatre has been transformed into something completely different, with its white walls, the bright,
colourful costumes, and Mozart s music of the spheres echoing within the once dark and dismal place.
The new theatre in all its splendour metaphorically resembles the transformations of the characters
themselves, and from this, the audience is encouraged to realise the significance and therapeutic
nature of art, in this case theatre and music: the music of this opera will keep the world in harmony ,
especially in contrast to hopeless treatments such as shock therapy. Through his play, Nowra also

Through Cosi Fan Tutte , Nowra also focuses on highlighting the inconsistencies and injustices within
the mental health system, through the use of dark humour and cynical depictions of mental asylums

Role Of Hassall s In T Cell Development
Role of Hassall s corpuscles in T cell development
Abstract
After being first described by Arthur Hill Hassall about 170 years ago, Hassall s corpuscles raised
curiosity in the minds of many researchers. These fascinating structures are located in thymic medulla
and for a long time their exact function had been an unanswered question. Recent advancements in
research has shown that they play a role in the maturation and development of thymocytes in thymus.
They are known to express cytokines, chemokines and other proteins suggesting that they interact with
antigen presenting cells and are actively involved in the development of T cells. Many diseases related
to auto immunity were found to vary from the normal condition, in the context of morphology of these
structures, making it important to understand the nature and role of these bodies in the human thymus.
The review highlights some of the current findings related to the structure and function of Hassall s
corpuscles throwing more light upon their role in the development of T cells.
Introduction
The Thymus is a pinkish, lobulated organ that is located posterior to the sternum. The main function of
the thymus is to process lymphocytes. It is an organ that undergoes involution; around the time of
puberty it degenerates. Thymic involution is important as it is believed to be linked to
immunosenescence and its associated diseases. Much study has been done to understand the cause and
mechanism of thymic degeneration in the hope

Liberalisation Of Immigration Policies In Canada Essay
This focus of this article is on the liberalisation of immigration policies in Canada and the US post
WWII. Triadafilopoulos (2010, 169) makes an argument that liberalisation of immigration policies
were driven by shifting norms in concern to race, ethnicity, and human rights. Canada s commitment
as part of its membership to the UN entailed an unqualified obligation in eradicating racial
discrimination and promoting human rights but this conflicted with its domestic practice
(Triadafilopoulas, 2010, 178). Canada s vision was to preserve its white European composition, which
meant discouraging those who do not fit in this vision (Triadafilopolous, 2010, 178). Critics used the

Task 1 This project involves me making an eBook for students who are interested in taking level 2
digital technology with programming (Year 12DIP). The content in the eBook will consist of course
information for the students and strategies of how they can excel in the level 2 DIP course. The
stakeholder for my eBook is Mr Patchigalla who will use my eBook in the future to give to the
students who are interested in this course more knowledge of the subject and a sense of what they will
be doing. The eBook would cover all the aspects for Level 2 DIP and hopefully enable the students to
understand the subject in more detail. My client/stakeholder, Mr Patchigalla will be providing me with
all the content that is to go into my eBook. The eBook would act as a guide for the students and would
also include some methods that students can implement to receive the higher grades in the subject. It
is hoped that through this eBook, many students will be able to use some of the strategies that I used
last year to get excellence endorsement for the subject and get good grades for the course. In addition
to this the eBook would help my client as he would be able to share the eBook online with all year 11

men would hide from killing, opt out altogether, or say they were just following orders. Though there
were still some who embraced their newly found jobs, this book argues there was still a sense of
morality, but does not excuse the acts that took place. However, as much as the perpetrators were
emotionally scarred, and this book does show us that, there are still some flaws in the content used to
write this book. One of the first things that became apparent to me very quickly was that this book was
not like most things you read about the Holocaust that always portrays Germans as being horrific
people, and the name implies, these were just ordinary men. Actually, some of the men in the
beginning were able to opt out of the killings. Having explained what awaited his men, Trapp then
made an extraordinary offer: if any of the older men among them did not feel up to the task that lay
before him, he could step out. (2) The men were shown empathy as their commander was letting them
have an option to not take part in what awaited them. Again, talking about the same commander, But
he did not go to the forest itself or witness the executions; his absence there was conspicuous. (59) He
did what he could to stay away from the systematic executions of the Jewish people, and his men took
note of that. However, there were some instances that almost all of the men knew something was not
okay about what they were doing. I would like to say that almost tacitly everyone refrained from
shooting infants and small children. (59) All of these accounts reinforce how the men reacted to what
they were asked to do initially, and how some opt out altogether. There were some men though, those
who wanted to be career military men that took to other ways of getting over what they were tasked
with. There came a time when the men were no longer offered an out, and to escape the executions
they would volunteer to guard, or hide out in the woods. Those who shot did not have to live with the
clear awareness that what they had done had been

Analysis Of The New York Civil Practice Law
Preliminary Statement Defendant Dr. Brandon Iron respectfully moves the Court, pursuant to Rule
3212(a) of the New York Civil Practice Law Rules, to grant a motion for Summary Judgement in
response to Plaintiff s intentional infliction of emotional distress Claim. Plaintiff alleges that Dr. Iron
intentionally inflicted emotional distress while performing a surgical procedure. Iron contends that the
marking does not satisfy the extreme and outrageous behavior element. Absent such extreme and
outrageous behavior, the cause of action cannot survive as a matter of law and the defendant should be
granted a Motion for Summary Judgment.

Markup signed the consent form. Dr. Iron performed Markup s successful hysterectomy procedure on
December 30th 2011. On January 6th Dr. Iron had a follow up appointment with Markup during which
he showed her a video of the procedure. The video revealed that Dr. Iron marked Markup s uterus with
the letters C.W.R.U. Although there is no specific protocol identified by Dr. Iron for the type of
marking he performed, he used the marking on every surgical specimen being removed during a
procedure to provide a third check to ensure that the organ and specimen were correctly identified for
the pathology department. As a result of her surgical experience, Markup has sued Iron in state court.
This argument is submitted to the court in support of Defendant s request to grant Motion for

Challenges Facing Canadian Organizations
Canada. They are the world s largest producer of newsprint, nickel, and asbestos. Montreal, Toronto,
and Vancouver are rated some of the best cities in the world. There is also Canadian Broadcasting

entertainment. (Schwind, 2010, p. 3)
Even though Canada is a leader and a top competitor around the world in regards to business,
resources, talent, and innovation, there are still many challenges facing Canadian organizations. In this
paper I will discuss the many ways that Canada, from a business stand point and as whole, faces
challenges and what we as a country are doing to rise and succeed through these challenges. There are

Not only is there internet, many companies also have intranet, which are a private information
network within the company. The mix of telecommunicating and intranet increase communication and
information knowledge between members of an organization to also increase productivity. Automation
is the automatically controlled operation of a process, system, or equipment by mechanical or
electronic devices. The two major reasons for automation is speed and better service. In some capital
equipment items, Canada takes six to twelve months to make, where Japan takes six to twelve weeks.
(Schwind, 2010, p. 10) This is a major challenge that Canada must face. The service factor is
continuous. A machine is programed to do the same exact operation over and over to ensure quality
and effectiveness, where as a human might make an error on one or more areas of the operation.
Another challenge with technology and automation is cost. Machines are expensive and not all
companies can afford the high tech equipment, and therefore must rely on manual labour.
Demographic challenges include the changes associated with the labour force, such as education
levels, age, and participation levels which occur slowly and are usually known in advance. The
number of female workers in the workforce has greatly increased over the last three decades, and with
that so has the way organizations are ran. In the past the men worked and the women stayed home and

Why Soccer Is Important To Me
The reason soccer is important to me is because it is the hobby i joined to win. So when I m bored I
would go outside and play soccer and call my brother to play. I really like soccer, so I spent a lot of
time playing it outside on the yard. When I play soccer I fell like I m so happy and I get excited when
I get some goals. When I got the first goal, I got so excited I couldn t believe it, and I just had a smile
all day. While I was looking up videos of soccer, I figured out that the soccer players win a lot of
money. So if I become a soccer player I could win a lot of money and at the same time I could have
fun with my favorite hobby. Now that I always play soccer when I get goals in I still get excited and it

Oversexualization Of Women In Society
The sexualization of young girls and women in society is a prevalent theme in mass media. Presently,
the sexualization of females is commonly seen in various consumer items like clothes, dolls, and even
in Disney movies, according to The Sexualization of Girls Is Harmful article. The author says that
sexualization occurs when a person s value comes only from his or her sexual appeal or behavior; a
person is held to a standard that equates physical attractiveness with being sexy; a person is sexually

The development of visual media has introduced the concept of The Male Gaze Theory. The Male
Gaze Theory is defined as how women are depicted in the media from a male perspective, such as
presenting women as sexual objects for men s pleasure (Loreck). The article, inexplicitly, talks about
the male gaze: Up to 81% of music videos contain sexual imagery, the majority of which sexually

harmful contribution to the sexualization of girls and is also seen throughout the music video. The
beginning of the music video shows 50 Cent walking into a brothel type mansion where the camera

from a male s perspective because the camera focuses on their sensual movements and physical assets
instead of their normal facial expressions or more appropriate places on their body. Also, since 50
Cent is the only male in the mansion, the camera is only coming from a male perspective because
brothels are only truly for a male s pleasure. The other women in the video are objectified from their

The Cross Cultural Communication Has Impacted The Industry
Canadian has become a multicultural country, because the globalization as well as the benefits that
Canadian government provided, more and more people are willing to live in Canada, especially in
Vancouver and Toronto. Because more people are willing to stay here and also work here, a lot of
Canadian company are facing a problem about the cross cultural communication. In my perspective,
the financial institution is the one of the industry that having the cross cultural communication more
often. This is because if neither people want to neither live here nor work here, they have to deal with
a lot of financial related issue with banks.
Royal Bank of Canada would be a great example to show how the cross cultural communication could
impact the industry. First of all, we could see a fact that more and more banking branch has diversified
staffs from different countries; those employees could speak English as well as at least speaking a
second language. Some of the branch employee could speak more than three languages. This is
because that RBC is trying to eliminate the language barrier between their employees and customers.
In my experience, in Richmond, nearly every branch has someone who could speak neither Cantonese
nor Mandarin. Those branches are very conscience for people who can t speak English very well, and
also it could give the customer better service. It s not just only benefit for customer, the bank also get a

Sun Tzu s The Art Of War
Sun Tzu s The Art of War in World War II During the Spring and Autumn Period (771 B.C.E. 406
B.C.E.) of Chinese history, the Zhou dynasty began to face opposition from several competing
warlords and dynasties. In the midst of this conflict emerged the Wu general, Sun Wu, later titled Sun

transcribed into The Art of War which was later revised and became the most important military text
in the ensuing Warring States Period. As such, it became the most influential piece of miliary thought
in Asia and with the advent of the 20th century and increased wars between the East and West, it
gradually became the most important military text in the world, replacing another text entitled Art of
War written during the Renaissance by Niccolo Machiavelli. One of the first wars in which both sides
used Sun Tzu s text, was World War II. The principles outlined in The Art of War, became ingrained in
the tactics of the American, British, German and Russian armies following World War I and the Russo
Japanese War. The tactics in outlined in The Art of War were used in many major battles in World War
II in both theaters of combat, leading it to become the one of the most, if not the most influential piece

Annotated Bibliography On Database Security
What is a database? According to our book, it s an organized collection of logically related data. The
information collected in a database can be effortlessly administered and accessed. However, with each
database there is a concern of security. According to our book, the goal of database security is to
protect and prevent data from unintentional or deliberate threats to its integrity and accessibility. The
database environment has grown more complex, with distributed databases located on client/server
architectures and personal computers as well as mainframes. Access to data has become more open
through the Internet and corporate intranets and from mobile computing devices. As a result,
managing data security has become more difficult and time consuming. The data collected and
distributed in every organization is a very important resource; therefore, all personnel in the
organization must be aware of the security threats present and the measure to take to prevent data
breach or leak. Data leak can occur unintentionally or intentionally. For example, if the employee is
being careless with sensitive data and leaving it in the open for others to access it this would be an
unintentional data leak. An intentional leak would be when a disgruntled employee gives sensitive
information to other competitors. The responsibility for database protection goes to the database
administration. It s their task to develop the procedures and policies to avert data breach. The database

(Belcourt et al., p 330). Statistics show that 80% of new product developments fail (Howells, 2011),
partly due to challenges and conflicts with human resources functions. Mergers and acquisitions are
the fastest way to enter new markets. It is estimated that 1/3 of all mergers fail due to faulty

Unexpectedly, as I pushed a bottle out of my way, I could hear distinct sounds coming from it. I pulled

  • 3. The Kernel Of Roman Society Rosemaria Varghese HUMA 4312 Critical Paper II Paterfamilias: the Kernel of Roman society Introduction In the Latin epic poem The Aeneid, the legendary poet Virgil presented various central moral principles that the Roman civilization fostered and adhered during his epoch. However, the discernible emphasis that Virgil placed on the relationships of fathers and sons highlights the underlying signification that these relationships became the genesis of Roman society. Virgil cogently rendered multifaceted father son relationships that the Roman society upheld by exhibiting how Aeneas endures as the progenitor to the diasporic Trojan populace, how two princes demise for their fathers ideals, and how astute fathers applaud and condemn from beyond the grave. Patriarch for his people Primarily, Virgil revealed Aeneas, the protagonist of The Aeneid, as a loving father to his son Ascanius, and a dutiful patriarch to the disbanded Trojans. Firstly, Virgil depicts Aeneas as an affectionate father Aeneas and fond father, always thoughtful of his son (The Aeneid, Virgil, B. I, 877 881). The paternal responsibility Aeneas have for his son later magnifies not only towards the exiled Trojans under his care, but also to the whole Roman civilization to come. In the beginning of Book I, Aeneas emerges as a fugitive captain driven by destiny, and a man devoted to his mission to find a city for his gods and his people (The Aeneid, Virgil, B. I, 5 16). The destiny that Aeneas is to ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. Vlad the Impaler A man that had a lot of power, was brilliant, was the prince of a country at one time, and a mastermind of torture. All of these words are describing Vlad Dracula, otherwise known as Vlad the Impaler. [The middle ages have produced numerous legends and heroes that remain very much a part of our contemporary culture; one need only to refer to the Tales of King Arthur and his Knights of the Round Table or of the outlaw Robin Hood,...Amidst the struggle to halt the Ottoman onslaught in Southeastern Europe the historical figure of Vlad Dracula arose to become a legend in his own time] (Treptow, 2000, p.7). Vlad the Impaler or Dracula was a very smart man in a sick way. He once tried to use a technique...[not used]...to impale the anus but rather ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... When Vlad was twelve years old he had experienced something that would sculpted his life completely, and made him become this evil mastermind with no feelings of remorse. When an officer [approached the bed and made a gesture to the guards. Instantly strong hands put Radu [Vlad s brother] on his belly, pulling upward to raise his hips as one man applied oil of attar to the anus that had previously been enlarged by the insertion of ivory pegs. The boys eyes were glistening with tears now as his buttocks were opened to allow his ravisher full access to him. Murad stripped. When he mounted Radu and penetrated him, the boy screamed, though more from fright than pain.... Prince Vlad ignored this outrageous sodomizing of his brother. Even when the sultan had finished and he himself was taken by all three officers in turn, he did the utmost not to let them see his anguish, not to cry out or release tears which shame and humiliation brought welling into his eyes. But there was no dignity left him now that it had happened, no maintaining his princely demeanor, no saving of his honor. There was only the acute sense of fullness to bursting, of being used unmercifully, of degradation and submission and defeat. It seemed to go on and on eternally, until sobs were wrung from him and childish curses flung at the damascened wall. And while they did this to him, commenting obscenely on his surrender and his helplessness, angry ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Considered a film masterpiece not only for its use of thoughtful comedy but also for the way in which the film was enhanced through the use of camera angles. Love and death, romance and horror, comedy and tragedy duel to an elegant draw in Wes Anderson s rich torte of a movie , as stated by Richard Corliss from Time Magazine. The constant use of straight angles gives the film an unmistakably elegant quality. In the U.S., a citizen must be at least 18 years for them to vote, and voting is voluntary; a person can t be forced to vote nor can he or she force anyone person to vote because it is a crime. Also contributing to the margin of error is the fact that many electronic machines don t keep paper records of the votes that are inputted into the systems, and Because many of these machines have no paper audit trails, a large number of votes will never be counted, (Elizabeth Weise). Also having no paper records mean that a ballot can be hacked and changed and no one will know what the original was and have no evidence that it was hacked. Although voting machines have advanced and changed over the decades, many voting booth today still use outdated machines. Security risks are the number one danger of older technology. Phenomenology used in Qualitative Research Phenomenology used in Qualitative Research Many phenomenological methodologies have been developed and used by qualitative researchers to review individuals experiences. Phenomenology for organizational research, descriptive phenomenological method, hermeneutic phenomenology, interpretive phenomenology, and interpretative phenomenological analysis are the five popular phenomenological methodologies in qualitative inquiry. Phenomenology for organizational research. Phenomenology for organizational research was presented by Patricia Sanders in 1982. It is one of the most popular phenomenological approaches to organize quality research. Sanders (1982) pointed out that phenomenology for organizational research was a research technique that sought to make explicit the implicit structure and meaning of human experiences (p. 354). • 10. Analysis Of The Picture Of Dorian Gray Haley Morrow Mrs. Crook 12 AP English 15 Oct. 2015 Irony in The Picture of Dorian Gray More often than not, it is hard to face the consciousness of the inevitable. Everyone feels the distress of realizing that time is fleeting and they will soon grow old and wrinkly, no longer their youthful self. The Picture of Dorian Gray, by Oscar Wilde, illustrates this human condition specifically through the main character Dorian Gray. Mr. Gray captures the artistic imagination of artist Basil Howard, who constantly paints portraits of Dorian. Basil usually depicts Dorian as an ancient Greek hero or a mythological creature, but when he completes his first portrait of Dorian for who he truly is he is disappointed because he feels as though this painting reveals too much about his subject. Dorian on the other hand goes to the extreme when he sees this portrait. Worrisome, Dorian believes that one day the portrait will remind him of his former beautiful and young self. Out of anguish, he curses the portrait, ultimately selling his soul to spare himself of the burdens of age and infamy, allowing him to stay forever young. In his novella, The Picture of Dorian Gray, Oscar Wilde uses irony to exemplify an anomaly between the aging process of Dorian Gray in contrast with that of the portrait of himself, particularly in a society that prizes beauty and youth. Comparing Joy Luck Club And The Woman Warrior Comparing The Joy Luck Club and The Woman Warrior Amy Tan s immensely popular novel, The Joy Luck Club explores the issues faced by first and second generation Chinese immigrants, particularly mothers and daughters. Although Tan s book is a work of fiction, many of the struggles it describes are echoed in Maxine Hong Kingston s autobiographical work, The Woman Warrior: Memoirs of a Girlhood Among Ghosts. The pairs of mothers and daughters in both of these books find themselves separated along both cultural and generational lines. Among the barriers that must be overcome are those of language, beliefs and customs, and geographic loyalty. This anecdote sets the stage for conflict between the Chinese mothers and their American daughters. The issue of the language barrier is a constant theme in both The Joy Luck Club and The Woman Warrior. In the immigrant narrative, English plays a major role in assimilating into the new world. For Tan, the struggle between Chinese and English haunts both her real life and her fiction. Tan herself stopped speaking Chinese at age five, though she has never lost her first language entirely (Amy). Her mother, Daisy, however, speaks in a combination [...] of English and Mandarin (Huntley 3). Tan was taunted in grade school for her mother s heavy Shanghai accent (Huntley 3). Because Daisy never became fluent in English, the linguistic friction merely escalated between the two women (Amy). Tan expresses this tension in her novel when the fictional Jing mei admits that she has trouble understanding her mother s meaning, and empathizes with her aunties who see daughters who grow impatient when their mothers talk in Chinese, who think they are stupid when they explain things in fractured English (Tan 40 1). The stresses of a bilingual relationship are further explored when Lena St. Clair finds herself acting as translator between her Chinese mother and English Irish father, who each refuse to learn the other s language, placing their daughter in the cultural crossfire (Tan ... • 14. How The English Changed North America Essay For civilization to evolve, changes must be made. Imagine what the world would be like if the Natives were just alone and no country migrated to North America. Would technology even exist? Would the main weapons be just spears and arrows? Would medicine be invented so people could live long lives without dying of diseases? These are questions that will never have to be answered because the world evolved into a much bigger and better place. The English changed North America no matter what the cost was. Some may argue that the English are the ones to blame for King Phillip s War, but that is not the case here. The Indians did not want change and overall, it did not work out real well for them. In this case, the war was brutal on both sides. The Natives did not change their customs as much as the English wanted them to. By not assimilating to European values and customs, the Natives caused the war over hatred of English values and traditions and made the world a dangerous place to live in. Daniel Richter was the author of Facing East from Indian Country and Jill Lepore wrote The Name of War. Lepore made some very interesting points that will be discussed that can make the Natives look like savages, but the English were not angels either. King Phillip s War is one of the most brutal wars in America and there really was not anything good about it. Mistakes were made and history was changed. • 15. Capital Punishment And The Death Penalty Essay Capital punishment, or the death penalty, is the lawful infliction of death as a punishment. (thefreedictionary.com). The topic is quite controversial, as its merits and effectiveness as a deterrent for crime have been argued many times over. However, the death penalty is perfectly within reason, as it rids the streets of criminals that have committed serious crimes and is also cheaper for the government versus giving life sentences. Even so, there are many who are against the death penalty. One such argument that has been made is that the death penalty is barbaric because many innocents have been sent to their deaths. Although this would be true if these opposers lived before 1986, that is not the case in today s world because there is access to DNA tests and profiling. According to www.interpol.int, Deoxyribonucleic acid (DNA) molecules contain the information all living cells in the human body need to function. They also control the inheritance of characteristics from parents to offspring. (interpol.int). DNA profiling play important roles in crimes as it has the potential to link a series of crimes and to place a suspect at the scene of a crime. Not only that, but also DNA can help to prove a suspect s innocence. With DNA testing, no innocent person will die from the death penalty simply because DNA tests can be used as concrete evidence to prove the suspect s innocence. To start off, one should know what exactly DNA profiling is and its use for prosecution. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Set in a typical mental asylum in the 1970 s during the anti Vietnam War protests and the feminist movement for women s equal rights, the play Cosi by Louis Nowra deeply explores the themes of love and fidelity, in a society predominantly concerned with war and politics. Throughout the play, Nowra uses the play within a play, Cosi Fan Tutte , to convey his key values regarding the importance of love and fidelity in today s world, while questioning the necessity of war and condemning society s perceptions of madness itself. Role Of Hassall s In T Cell Development Role of Hassall s corpuscles in T cell development Abstract After being first described by Arthur Hill Hassall about 170 years ago, Hassall s corpuscles raised curiosity in the minds of many researchers. These fascinating structures are located in thymic medulla and for a long time their exact function had been an unanswered question. Recent advancements in research has shown that they play a role in the maturation and development of thymocytes in thymus. They are known to express cytokines, chemokines and other proteins suggesting that they interact with antigen presenting cells and are actively involved in the development of T cells. Many diseases related to auto immunity were found to vary from the normal condition, in the context of morphology of these structures, making it important to understand the nature and role of these bodies in the human thymus. The review highlights some of the current findings related to the structure and function of Hassall s corpuscles throwing more light upon their role in the development of T cells. Introduction The Thymus is a pinkish, lobulated organ that is located posterior to the sternum. The main function of the thymus is to process lymphocytes. It is an organ that undergoes involution; around the time of puberty it degenerates. Thymic involution is important as it is believed to be linked to immunosenescence and its associated diseases. Triadafilopoulos (2010, 169) makes an argument that liberalisation of immigration policies were driven by shifting norms in concern to race, ethnicity, and human rights. Canada s commitment as part of its membership to the UN entailed an unqualified obligation in eradicating racial discrimination and promoting human rights but this conflicted with its domestic practice (Triadafilopoulas, 2010, 178). • 22. Morality In Christopher R. Browning s Ordinary Men In the book Ordinary Men by Christopher R. Browning, he shows a different side of the Germans during the Final Solution, and how not every last one was a terrible person, by explaining how some men would hide from killing, opt out altogether, or say they were just following orders. Though there were still some who embraced their newly found jobs, this book argues there was still a sense of morality, but does not excuse the acts that took place. However, as much as the perpetrators were emotionally scarred, and this book does show us that, there are still some flaws in the content used to write this book. One of the first things that became apparent to me very quickly was that this book was not like most things you read about the Holocaust that always portrays Germans as being horrific people, and the name implies, these were just ordinary men. Actually, some of the men in the beginning were able to opt out of the killings. Having explained what awaited his men, Trapp then made an extraordinary offer: if any of the older men among them did not feel up to the task that lay before him, he could step out. (2) The men were shown empathy as their commander was letting them have an option to not take part in what awaited them. Again, talking about the same commander, But he did not go to the forest itself or witness the executions; his absence there was conspicuous. (59) He did what he could to stay away from the systematic executions of the Jewish people, and his men took note of that. However, there were some instances that almost all of the men knew something was not okay about what they were doing. I would like to say that almost tacitly everyone refrained from shooting infants and small children. (59) All of these accounts reinforce how the men reacted to what they were asked to do initially, and how some opt out altogether. There were some men though, those who wanted to be career military men that took to other ways of getting over what they were tasked with. There came a time when the men were no longer offered an out, and to escape the executions they would volunteer to guard, or hide out in the woods. In the midst of this conflict emerged the Wu general, Sun Wu, later titled Sun Tzu. One of the first wars in which both sides used Sun Tzu s text, was World War II. The principles outlined in The Art of War, became ingrained in the tactics of the American, British, German and Russian armies following World War I and the Russo Japanese War. The tactics in outlined in The Art of War were used in many major battles in World War II in both theaters of combat, leading it to become the one of the most, if not the most influential piece of military work in history. The information collected in a database can be effortlessly administered and accessed. However, with each database there is a concern of security. According to our book, the goal of database security is to protect and prevent data from unintentional or deliberate threats to its integrity and accessibility. The database environment has grown more complex, with distributed databases located on client/server architectures and personal computers as well as mainframes. Access to data has become more open through the Internet and corporate intranets and from mobile computing devices. As a result, managing data security has become more difficult and time consuming. The data collected and distributed in every organization is a very important resource; therefore, all personnel in the organization must be aware of the security threats present and the measure to take to prevent data breach or leak. Data leak can occur unintentionally or intentionally. First, a contingency plan must be developed. The contingency plan will be created once Target s board of directors has expressed interest in the acquisition of BBAB. This plan will identify who the trained coordinator is for each company in merger management. It also outlines the chain of command, commutation mediums, procedures to be followed during the acquisition, and identifies the members of the transition team who will assist the remainder of the employees during the acquisition. After a prolonged exploration of a presidential bid, Webb used a more than 2,000 word blog post to announce his run. • 40. The Dollie Dwelling I balanced carefully atop the chair as I rattled through a menagerie of bottles and gift bags. Unexpectedly, as I pushed a bottle out of my way, I could hear distinct sounds coming from it. I pulled the bottle out of the closet to investigate. What I saw inside the bottle was astounding. There were tiny, doll sized people inside a doll sized bottle house! Very gently, I took the bottle and placed it on a nearby table. Amazingly, the people inside the house didn t pay any attention to me. They talked in tiny voices, too quiet for me to understand. I was too eager to think. Hi guys!! Nice place!
