CREATING A QUIZ
Lesson 4
Topic 5.1
BEFORE WE START…


To begin, think about a variety of quizzes that you
have played online. Think about what topics you
like to choose to play and how difficult the
questions are that you require.
STARTER ACTIVITY…
Complete the ‘What’s The Question’ activity as a
class.
 Your teacher will give you not questions but
answers to questions, your task is to think of what
the question might be.
 Work in pairs, spend only 30 seconds on each and
raise your hand when you think you know the
question
 Spend between five and ten minutes doing this.

WHAT TO DO…
Follow through the tutorials on how to create a quiz
in Microsoft Excel, your teacher may lead you
through this as class.
 The tutorial will teach you how to create the
questions with combo boxes for multiple choice
answers, then you can learn how to implement ‘IF’
statements. This then, for example, means you can
create your quiz to display ‘Correct’ when the player
gets the question right.
 Spend 15 minutes following the tutorial closely so
you understand how to follow the steps on your
own.

TASK 1 :QUESTIONS…
It is important to choose suitable questions for you
quiz.
 Make sure that the topic you choose you have a
good amount of knowledge on so you can easily
select a variety of different questions. You must
know the answers to all of your questions.
 Who is your target audience? Also think about who
you intend your quiz to be designed for, will it be
beginners, experts or a mixture of difficulties?
 Spend 5 minutes now to think of and write down
your questions and answers on the ‘Quiz
Questions’ sheet.

TASK 2: PUTTING IT ALL TOGETHER…
Now that you have followed the tutorials on how to
create a quiz , you have chosen your topic and you
have decided on your questions….. It is time to
create your quiz!
 Spend 20 minutes creating your quiz with the
combo boxes and ‘IF’ statements.
 Apply everything you have learned through
formatting and editing and apply this to make your
quiz look professional and appealing to the eye.

TO FINISH…
Swap computers with someone else in your class
and spend a few minutes playing their quiz.
 Once completed thing about things that you
particularly liked about it and something you think
they can do to improve it. Consider the questions
asked, the topic, the difficulty of the questions, the
layout and formatting.
 Write down your ‘2 stars and wish’ on a post-it note
and stick this to their desk where they can read
your feedback later.


Creating a quiz

  • 2. BEFORE WE START…  To begin, think about a variety of quizzes that you have played online. Think about what topics you like to choose to play and how difficult the questions are that you require.
  • 3. STARTER ACTIVITY… Complete the ‘What’s The Question’ activity as a class.  Your teacher will give you not questions but answers to questions, your task is to think of what the question might be.  Work in pairs, spend only 30 seconds on each and raise your hand when you think you know the question  Spend between five and ten minutes doing this. 
  • 4. WHAT TO DO… Follow through the tutorials on how to create a quiz in Microsoft Excel, your teacher may lead you through this as class.  The tutorial will teach you how to create the questions with combo boxes for multiple choice answers, then you can learn how to implement ‘IF’ statements. This then, for example, means you can create your quiz to display ‘Correct’ when the player gets the question right.  Spend 15 minutes following the tutorial closely so you understand how to follow the steps on your own. 
  • 5. TASK 1 :QUESTIONS… It is important to choose suitable questions for you quiz.  Make sure that the topic you choose you have a good amount of knowledge on so you can easily select a variety of different questions. You must know the answers to all of your questions.  Who is your target audience? Also think about who you intend your quiz to be designed for, will it be beginners, experts or a mixture of difficulties?  Spend 5 minutes now to think of and write down your questions and answers on the ‘Quiz Questions’ sheet. 
  • 6. TASK 2: PUTTING IT ALL TOGETHER… Now that you have followed the tutorials on how to create a quiz , you have chosen your topic and you have decided on your questions….. It is time to create your quiz!  Spend 20 minutes creating your quiz with the combo boxes and ‘IF’ statements.  Apply everything you have learned through formatting and editing and apply this to make your quiz look professional and appealing to the eye. 
  • 7. TO FINISH… Swap computers with someone else in your class and spend a few minutes playing their quiz.  Once completed thing about things that you particularly liked about it and something you think they can do to improve it. Consider the questions asked, the topic, the difficulty of the questions, the layout and formatting.  Write down your ‘2 stars and wish’ on a post-it note and stick this to their desk where they can read your feedback later. 
