Canada In Ww1
In 1914, Canada was a British colony as it had been a part of the British Empire ever since the 1600 s,
with a majority of Canadian citizens being of British descent. But, with Canada s participation in
World War I on the front lines and domestically, Canada repeatedly proved that colony is not
something that should be used to describe itself. Despite some of the costs, Canadians took it upon
themselves to show the Allies and the Germans who they truly are. We emerged from the war, as not
only independent of British control, but also as a major global superpower due to the Allies military
dependence on us, the economy developing skyward and full jurisdiction in foreign affairs.
At the start of WWI, Canadian troops fought with the British ... Show more content on

Throughout the war, with the multitude and variety of different programs, Canada s economy
exploded by four times due to the influx of products being produced for the Allies. By doing this,
Canada in turn also changed its economy in a full self sustaining Canadian identity. For example, due
to the desperate need for ammunition and war weapons, Canada built countless factories across the
country to service the demand. It was solely a business agreement, a plan where terms involved trade
and money, between Britain and Canada. Many citizens came up to work in the industrial production
so that Canada could stabilize itself as a dominant global economy, starting what was called the Home
Front. Millions of dollars in war goods were being manufactured and shipped to the Allies, including
artillery shells, and munitions. Many people also bought war bonds to strengthen Canada s economy
so that they could return huge profits. Farming also soared during these years, where many teenagers
working on the farms to yield huge quantities of food for the Allies with the Soldiers of the Soil
program. Women and children also helped create care packages for the soldiers so that they could
enjoy delicacies from home. All of this proved that Canada was an equal economic partner and a huge
global force, working with the Allies to ensure the war ran smoothly. This ultimately led to significant
leaps on how the economy of Canada ran, based solely on their own

Careers At Lodging And Food And Beverage 2
CAREERS IN LODGING AND FOOD AND BEVERAGE 2
Lodging, food and beverage is becoming popular in the world today. A lot of people are going to
college in order to be in this type of work. They learn how each field work and also how challenging
the field has become over the years. It is fascinating how much these fields are so vast but yet similar.
Many people that want to get into this field find that it can be helpful to learn firsthand how these
industries have functioned economically in the past and figure out how they will function in years to
come. Lodge Management requires a person to have great communication skills and must be diverse.
The Key management functions are planning, organizing, decision making, communicating, human
resources and motivating and controlling (Introduction to hospitality pg.539). These functions can be
stressful. Lodge management roles require a person to be on their feet all day, sometimes more than a
regular 8 hour day, they usually require them to work during the day and then have to come back on
another shift if necessary. Most managers that work in the lodging fields are on call most of the time;
even if it s the front desk manager, the housekeeping manager or food and beverage. They must be
able to handle customer complaints in a timely manner to satisfy the customer. General Managers are

The Importance of New Zealand’s Forestry Industry Essay
New Zealand s forests are one of its greatest natural resources, holding significant financial, physical,
and spiritual value (DOC, 2013). These forests provide a significant trading resource (Perry, Oren,
Hart, 2008), directly influence soil and flora quality (West, 2006), and contribute to the cultural health
of Maori by enhancing their whakapapa (or Connection with the land) (Gallagher Te Atawhai o te Ao,
2011).
This resource, however, is under threat through poor management (Levack, Poole, Bateson, 2006),
over exploitation (MPI, 2003) and the operating conditions of the Forestry Industry (ACC, 2007). This
assignment will examine the impact that deforestation may have on New Zealand, and possible
models for rectifying the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
According to ACC reports, there were 200 serious injuries and fatalities in 2012, leading to a financial
cost to ACC of $10 million dollars (ACC, 2014). The emotional cost of the death of a family member,
is incalculable (Bowlby West, 1983), and the resulting void may instigate feelings of disbelief, shock
and anger by the co victims (family), especially without prior mental and emotional readiness
(Clements, DeRanieri, Vigil Benasutti, 2004), such as would occur if a family member died of a
terminal illness. An example of this void can be observed in the case of Mr Charles Finlay of Tokoroa,
who was one of twenty eight forestry workers to lose his life, in the workplace since 2008. (The New
Zealand Herald, 2013). Finlay left behind a widow (Maryanne Butler Finlay) with three children, as
composed in Bowen, (2013), stating That the family are struggling to get over the death and are
undergoing grief counselling, also requiring time off school to recover from their shortfall .
In addition to the hazards posed by the industry, there have been studies conducted that suggest mass
deforestation of an area can result in a decrease in air

Genetically Modified Foods and Organisms Essay
The people s interest in where their foods come from and how they are processed has increased
steadily with growing health concerns and ecological problems. As the amount of genetically modified
(GM) crops have increased rapidly in recent years, the debates on whether GM foods are truly
beneficial or not have become prevalent. Scientists around the world are making their sentiments
known. Over eight hundred scientists around the world signed an open letter to all governments, the
UN, the World Trade Organization, and the U.S. Congress calling for a ban on genetically modified
organisms, seeds, and foods (Batalion). The Union of Concerned Scientists, a nonprofit science
advocacy group that works to create safe, healthy, and sustainable ... Show more content on

The major drawbacks include allergies, decreased nutritional value, increased toxicity, and antibiotic
resistance ( Harmful Effects of the Agent ). First, because genetically modified organisms are created
through a mixture of various genes from other organisms that might cause an allergic reaction,
consuming these products poses as a threat to the individuals who have serious allergic reactions.
Theoretically, the genetically modified foods have low nutrition because of the gene modification
process. For instance, genetically modified soybeans produce fewer phytoestrogen compounds,
chemicals that keep the heart healthy, than the traditional soybeans (Batalion). Third, from animals to
humans, all organisms that consume genetically modified organisms, which usually contain antibiotic
resistant genes, could develop tolerance to antibiotics due to excessive exposure. On the other hand,
detrimental bacteria and viruses could also develop resistance to the antibiotics in the future, making
humans more vulnerable. Lastly, to increase the efficiency of agriculture, scientists have engineered
crops to produce pesticides on their own. The biotechnology companies claim that the small amount
of these pesticides barely affects human health, but the safety of

Face Recognition
Hi class,
You already mentioned some very interesting examples of where face recognition could be used or
already is in use. Authentication is needed more and more in a digitalized world. At first, I thought
face recognition could be useful for unlocking phones or open door locks, for example. But I came to
notice that there are situations in which this face recognition could actually be disturbing or even
dangerous. Imagine a person having an accident and somebody tries to call for help using the cell
phone of this person. Help could be hindered by a phone only unlocking through face recognition of
the owner. A similar situation would arise in a burning house. The owner being trapped inside,
firefighters may not be able to enter the house for help as quickly as they could without a face
recognition lock. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Instead of using a credit or debit card with a pin number or signature, you could use face recognition
to identify the card owner. There is no situation I can think of in which somebody else would legally
have to use somebody else s bank card. Another positive aspect of face recognition in bank business
would be people not having to remember so many pin numbers. Many ATMs already have cameras
installed, so why not use those cameras for authentication? Even in stores cameras could be used to
identify people. The same applies for bank counters or online banking services. Especially the topic of
online credit card fraud would be interesting for using face recognition, as a lot of fraud is committed

A Swedish Music Streaming Website
Spotify is a Swedish music streaming website that hosts music from record labels and musicians. The
website contains albums, track lists and singles that can be played from the website. Music can be
browsed on the website by artist, song, genre, or record label. Spotify was launched back in 2008, by a
start up called Spotify AB. As of last year, Spotify had about 75 million active users on their website.
The first most important event in launching the website was that the ideas for it started back in 2006.

In March 2012, Spotify removed a feature that non U.S. residents couldn t play a song more than five
times but the restriction continued in the United Kingdom and in France. What makes Spotify
different from other programs is that it allows you to access 20 million songs that you can stream on
your computer and play. The basic services are free while the premium gives the more advanced
features. Spotify provides more access to thousands of albums and artists and allows people to listen
to some of their favorite songs for free. It has changed the way music platforms are hosted on the
internet and provides easier access to artist s music online. A strategy that Spotify uses to help achieve
their position is by selling premium services to people and using advertisements from third parties. If
people enjoy the website enough, they will pay to get even better services from the website. They also
offer to pay artists and copyright holders royalties if they stream their music on the website. This helps
them get their revenue. The company pays 70% of revenue to the copyright holders. Spotify tries to
push for people to pay for the music which is the source of most of their revenue. The subscription
usually removes advertisements and limits on the songs. It also allows free phone usage, offline and
online. In 2012, a report declared that Spotify lost $59 million in revenue costs due to high staffing
costs, licensing fees

Gender Themes In The Girl In Blue By Ann Rinaldi
There is a theme in The Girl in Blue by Ann Rinaldi. The theme is that gender does not affect skill
level. The Girl in Blue is set in 1861, and is about a Michigan native by the name of Sarah Louisa. She
is about to be forced to marry a man of her abusive father s choice when she decides to run away and
join the army. She joins the army under the ruse that she is a boy and participates in the battle of Bull
Run but her gender is eventually found out by her doctor and general. She is not punished for her
actions but discharged and sent to work as a spy for the Pinkerton agency. She is sent to spy on a
southern ally who is under house arrest to find out how she is sending messages to the south. She
discovers how and is rewarded with a break. She travels home to find her abusive father had died and
her sister is betrothed to the man she ran from. She leaves to go back to her job as a spy and that is
where the story ends. Some of the reasons the theme could be gender not affecting skill level is that
first of all the general does not punish her for her actions. Second, she is sent to work as a spy for a job
only a woman could do. Lastly, before she even goes to war she has to do all the work for the house
instead of her father.
When Sarah is discovered as a girl by her doctor and general she is not discharged. This is because she
has shown prowess on the battlefield and in the hospital tent as well. On the battlefield, she had the
courage to shoot a cavalry officer instead of one of the footmen, and she aimed the shot perfectly at
his heart. This shows how she is able to take charge and to stay calm in a hectic situation. She had the
peace of mind to get on a knee aim the gun and fire a fatal shot to the heart. furthermore, while in both
places she had to hide the fact that she was a girl while surrounded by men. In the hospital she tried
not to get sick by taking the bitters which is a medicine to prevent smallpox so she wouldn t be
examined by Dr.Hammond, the doctor at that hospital tent. Lastly, she volunteers to go a 5 mile trip
through some rebel territory to get morphine for the injured men. This shows how she is dedicated to
helping her brothers in arms who are in need of medical care. This is one

Planned Parenthood Essay
Planned Parenthood
Intro Andrea:
Health care is extremely important, but one form which is overlooked or often not talked about often
is sexual healthcare. Did you know these facts? Over 25 million people have died from AIDS since
1981. STDs often cause death, infertility, chronic pain, birth defects, amp; miscarriages. Everyday
12,000 American teens contract an STD. 1 in 5 Americans have genital herpes. 90% don t know it and
don t show signs. There are 750,000 teen pregnancies in the U.S. a year (2,000 a day). About 80% of
teen fathers don t stay with the mom. Every 45 seconds someone in the U.S. is sexually assaulted.
How can we prevent these numbers and statistics? We can with Planned Parenthood.

If a woman is pregnant and she has an untreated STD such as hepatitis B, herpes, and syphilis, it could
also potentially spread to the fetus, potentially leading to premature birth, stillbirth, and birth defects.
Because Planned Parenthood is so affordable, many people depend on it as a reproductive health
clinic. In fact, about one half of the organization s patient s use doctors at Planned Parenthood as their
primary physicians, because they would be unable to afford anything else. Planned Parenthood also
provides accurate sexual education, and they speak about all forms of birth control, including
abstinence, and the dangers of sexually transmitted diseases. 26 states require abstinence only
education, and some argue that by not providing other information about sexual health, this increases
the chance of unintended pregnancy. In fact, the two states with the highest rates of teen pregnancy are
Mississippi and New Mexico. Mississippi does not require sex education, but when it is taught, it is
restricted to be abstinence only, and New Mexico has no requirements at all about what should be
included in sex education. By providing sexual education that encompasses all forms of birth control
and STD prevention, including abstinence, Planned Parenthood reduces the risk of unplanned
pregnancy and protects the health of women and men alike. Overall, Planned Parenthood

Was Nazi Germany A Totalitarian State
Firstly, Nazi Germany is widely recognized as a totalitarian form of state. In fact, when Hitler had
risen to power, there was one strong party system which controlled the whole state and politics of the
country, fact which is considered to be one of the most important features of this form of state. In
addition, as also Max Weber has agreed, Hitler has always been portrayed as a strong and charismatic
leader which helped him to be classified as a totalitarian leader. Most importantly, he was able to
impose his ideology which became the official credo of the state. As a matter of fact, he was able to
make the National Socialism the ideology of the regime and this can also be shown by what the
political scientists Freidrich and Brzezinski said ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
If Franco s political system in Spain is taken an example the differences between totalitarian and
authoritarian forms of state are explicit. Although Franco, who came to power in the aftermath of the
Civil War, was both chief and head of government, he was not as charismatic as Hitler. For example,
according to the book Charisma and leadership , Franco was not a leader with a strong charisma and
ideology, in fact, his will was just to remain in power and govern a repressive rule in Spain. In fact, in
contrast to Franco, Hitler could persuade people and was able to get everyone s support in order to get
elected. In addition, his abilities in public speaking were very effective and convinced many people to
follow him. In contrast to Hitler s totalitarian form of state, Franco s one did not have an official
ideology and this was not of primary concern to him: Ideology or political theories were not the
primary motivators in Franco s developing of the institutions that came to be identified with his name.
It is therefore clear that Franco s unique and main goal was to maintain power and in order to do so he
contrasted the anti Spain forces from gaining ascendancy . Although Franco never created a
constitution, he made 6 fundamental laws. One of these raises a very important difference between the
totalitarian and authoritarian form of state. In fact, Franco, in order to gain Spanish

Character Analysis Of Norman Lear
Living by the restrictions that society places upon us, humanity is constrained to follow rules.
Television writers were forced to write a certain way and were forced to leave out information that
society would deem as improper, rude, and even racist. However, in 1971, a groundbreaking American
television sitcom broke through societal boundaries and transformed the way that the American
audience viewed television. Engulfed by the Vietnam War, Civil Rights Movement of the 1950s and
1960s, fight for women s right, and the Watergate scandal, Norman Lear persevered through
stereotypes and entertainment norms with his show All in the Family. This show approached its
audience in a very blunt and crude manner; it made conflict the center of its comedy. It dealt with
contemporary cultural issues in a relatable way, which blue allowed blue collar workers to learn about
their current everyday issues and concerns. Through his show All in the Family, Norman Lear
highlighted sensitive topics such as racism, bigotry, and sexual relations to prove that they are still
alive in our country; thus, Norman Lear is an agent of change by bringing awareness to social issues.
Born in 1922 to a very atypical family, Norman Lear had to become very independent. Norman Lear s
father, Herman, was a conman who was arrested when Norman was nine years old. In an interview
with PBS broadcast journalist Jeffrey Brown, Norman relives the moments of his dad s arrest,
recounting the time when a man came up to him, pat him on his shoulder, and uttered [Norman] You
re the man in the house (Source). It was at this moment that Lear realized the foolishness of the human
condition. He wondered what kind of person would place such a great responsibility on a nine year old
child, especially during times of hardship and sadness. What made Norman Lear s childhood even
appalling was that he could not rely on his mother for support; everything Norman did was only
satisfactory in her eyes. To escape his unsupportive life, Lear enlisted in the military and became a
fighter pilot during World War II. After completing 52 combat missions, he headed west in an effort to
make a social impact through writing comedy. After impressing his colleagues, he was hired as

Howard Hughes and the Flight of the Spruce Goose
I want to be remembered for only one thing, Howard Robard Hughes once said, and that s my
contribution to aviation. (LIFE) Howard Hughes was known as a mysterious, inventive, and reclusive
character. Hughes was an American entrepreneur who became one of the most wealthiest people
during the 1930 s and 1940 s. Howard Hughes was one of the most famous aviators of all time with
the production of his world wide known plane called the Spruce Goose . (Howard Robard Hughes)
Howard Hughes was born in Humble, Texas on December 24, 1905. Hughes was very creative and
ingenious, but an individualistic and private person. As a kid, he spent his time drawing automobiles,
trains, planes, and boats. His father, Howard Senior, invented a new type of drill bit for the booming
oil industry. The Sharp and Hughes Company was created, and quickly expanded in Texas, California,
and other states. His mother, Allene, isolated Hughes from the real world with her relentless fears of
germs, disease, and death. At the age of fourteen, Hughes was deeply interested in mechanics and
engines. He inherited the love of creating technical solutions from his father. As a way to resist his
mother to refuse to buy him a motorcycle, he turned his bicycle into a motorized bike. Howard
Hughes showed that he disliked school but loved tinkering with any kind of machine. One day, his
father took him on an airplane flight. It was one of the most important events in Howard s life. He was

Castles In Medieval Times Research Paper
If you are going to build something in the air it is always better to build castles than houses of cards.
(Lichtenberg). Castles are meant to hold up in defensive times to protect the people and country. Why
should we strive, with cynic frown, to knock their fairy castles down? (Cook). At first, castles were
built for military and government means. As centuries went on, hostilities subsided, and wealth started
to flow during Renaissance, nobility and royalty started to create vanity castles that were used to be
summer houses, hunting houses and royal houses. Castles are used mostly for defense, they protect the

a perfect Détente and what he feels should be a true Marxist state by showing some of the atrocities
claimed by the Soviet regime. He expresses to the United States that nations can no longer stand by

that it is the best system that provides liberty and freedom to all peoples who live in the system. His

which evaluate a site being nominated, include the International Council on Monuments and Sites
(ICOMOS) and the World Conservation Union (IUCN). These committees provide evaluations on a
site. There is a third Advisory Body known as the International Centre for the Study of the
Preservation and Restoration of Cultural Property (ICCROM), which provides expert advice as to the
conservation of cultural sites, along with training activities. The World Heritage Committee will then
make a final decision on whether a site will receive an inscription. This committee meets once a year
to decide upon nominations, and can defer a request. When a site is deferred, it is usually because
more information is needed from the state party nominating the location. Standards for selection must

Does Smoking Cause Lung Cancer Essay
INTRODUCTION
It s a proven fact. Each year more Americans die from lung cancer and other smoking related diseases
than they die from aids, drug abuse, car accidents and homicide, combined. Cigarette smoking is a
danger to our life and health. It is the leading known cause of lung cancer. Each year more than 30,000
people will die of lung cancer and 4 out of 5 of them will get it because of cigarette smoke. Studies
have proven that there is no safe way to smoke. Tobacco contains many dangerous cancer causing
chemicals that affects the lungs of the smoker and the nonsmoker, so smoking just a little amount can
increase your chances of getting lung cancer. The Surgeon General has said that smoking is the single

If you smoke, you are more likely to develop the disease. Men who smoke are 22 times more likely to
develop lung cancer, while women who smoke are estimated to be 12 times more likely. The earlier
you start smoking and the longer you smoke increases the danger. But if you stop smoking, the risk of
cancer falls each year as abnormal cells are replaced by normal cells. In ten years, the risks decreases
to a level that is 30 to 50 percent of the risk for people who continue to smoke. That s why it s
important for young people to never start smoking.
WHAT SMOKING DOES TO YOUR LUNGS Cigarette smoke contains many dangerous chemicals.
Carbon monoxide robs your blood of oxygen and may encourage build up of deposits in your arteries.
Nicotine is an addictive agent. Tar contains cancer causing chemicals which tend to build up in lung

The Healthy Lung The air we inhale enters the lungs through tubes called bronchi. These branch into
the smaller brochioles and finally into tiny air sacs, the aveoli. The average lung has more that 300
million of these air sacs, which provides a combined area of more than 750 square feet for oxygen to
be absorbed into the bloodstream and carbon dioxide to be expelled. To some extent our breathing
apparatus can can clean itself. Mucus produced by some cells in the bronchi traps unfamiliar material,

Aristotle View On Friendship
Friendship is an important asset in the world we live in, the young needs friendship to retain them
from error, older people need it to care for them and those in their prime time need it, to do fine
actions. No one would choose to live without friends because friendship is very important and it holds
cities together.
The philosopher, Aristotle quoted friendship has A single soul dwelling in two bodies. Aristotle takes
the concept of friendship to a major level. His concept of friendship is assertive and comprehensive.
Subsequently, Aristotle divided each concept into three sections or in other words three types of
friendship. He first distinguishes and contrasts the three types of friendships. More importantly
Aristotle takes into consideration that friendship is a necessity to live, however, it is not only
necessary, but also fine. He also characterizes friendship as a virtue and as just. The three different
types of friendship correspond to the three objects of love, which are, things that are useful (advantage
friendship), things that are pleasant (pleasure friendship), and finally the third, things that are good
(good friendship).
Firstly, Aristotle observed advantage friendship as a type of friendship that the friend is not loved for
his or her own sake, however, they are loved for the sake of some good obtained from the other. This
friendship does not last according to Aristotle due to the purpose that once the benefit of the good in
the friendship comes to an end, so does the friendship, in other words, their pleasure in each other no
longer goes beyond their expectations of advantage. For each individual finds the other pleasant only
to the point that each would expect some good for themselves. Individuals with these types of
friendship, take satisfaction from each other s company just for their own sake. To elaborate a more
practical name for this type of friendship would be an acquaintance. Hence such people do not find
each other advantageous, therefore they have no need to meet. This type of friendship can be seen
amongst older people, seeing that at that age they seek for what is advantageous. In brief, friendship of
utility is often between opposite people, and is based on something that

Student Loan Is The Most Powerful Weapon
Education is the most important tool a person can have, Nelson Mandela believed that Education is the
most powerful weapon which you can use to change the world. Education is a tool that cannot be
taken away. This is what makes it so powerful, conventional weapons break down, fail, and can be
taken while knowledge cannot be. Sadly student loan debts are increasing at an alarming rate. The
days of working all summer or part time throughout the school year in order to pay tuition are long
gone and private student loans are the only viable answer for many students aspiring for a professional
career. I believe that student loan forgiveness is an issue of the utmost importance in regards to

The next argument is that we simply cannot afford it. The United States put an average of 663.4
billion dollars per year from 2010 to 2015 into our military (Davies, 2015). For a comparison the
Chinese who have the world s second largest military spent around 145 billion in 2015 (Wong,
Buckley 2015). If we can afford to put hundreds of billions of dollars into our military each year then
why can t we afford to educate the future workers and professionals of America? There is no need for
that much spending on our military and it can be moved from the military into education in order to
make higher education more affordable. Critics are focusing only on one of the major issues, which is
the issue of money and they are completely ignoring the ideological issues. Education is extremely
important and is necessary in order for people to support themselves and their country. Education is a
fundamental human right that is necessary in order to promote individual freedom and exercise other
rights (United Nations). Education is a necessity in America but has time goes on it is getting far more
difficult to obtain. Education benefits not just the individual who is obtaining the education but it is a
public good and an investment in our collective future as a country (Applebaum, 2014). A

Write An Essay On Outliers By Malcolm Gladwell
As I got older, my mother constantly told me that to achieve mastery over any one subject, you must

My mother taught me to be honest, to believe in trust, and to never lie. This inspired me because it
made me who I am. Through my life, I have never thought of who was inspiring me to go on; urging
me to continue to do what I was doing and to strive and aspire for greater things. Now that I think of
it, my mother was the one who was inspiring me. I admire my mom because she has a positive
attitude, she works hard, and she explains things to me in a way that makes sense. My mother has a

Importance Of The Watergate Scandal
actually led to the first presidential resignation in the history of America. The event occurred in June
17, 1972, when several burglars came with the intention of robbery to the office of the Democratic
National Committee, which is situated in the Watergate building in the Washington, D.C. The burglars
weren t after money, but were there to steal wiretap phones and secret documents. These burglars were
linked to the reelection campaign of President Richard Nixon. Even though it wasn t clear whether
President Nixon knew about the espionage of Watergate, he did take steps to cover it later. President
Nixon tried to give hush money for the burglars and even put pressure on the Federal Bureau of
Investigation, not to conduct the investigation. He tried to do this by destroying evidence against him
and even firing the staff which was uncooperative. The importance of the Watergate scandal lies in the
fact, that it changed the American politics forever. People started questioning their leadership and
thought critically about who they choose as one. The scandal was investigated by Carl Bernstein and
Bob Woodward, and along the way, they found many interesting things, which gave people more
information and perspective about the scandal. The journalists found out many things; some of the

Apesian Mimicry
(continued from box above) Mimicry is when one species has evolved to resemble another organism.
Müllerian mimicry is when two or more distasteful species may benefit from a shared warning
coloration pattern, such as the monarch and viceroy butterflies who both share the orange and black
patterns. Batesian mimicry is when harmless organisms can gain a selective advantage by resembling
poisonous species, such as coral snake and a scarlet king snake. Many prey can also deter predators by
startle coloration, which means that prey have spots which can resemble large eyes. Aggressive

In parasitism, the parasite benefits, but the host is harmed. Symbiosis is the close interaction between
organisms of different species for an extended time. Symbiotic relationships differ on the effects of the
other species while one benefits. The three major symbiotic relationships are commensalism,
mutualism, and parasitism. In commensalism, the species benefits and the other remains unaffected.
One example are barnacles hitching a ride on the skin of a whale. In parasitism, the parasite benefits
and the host is harmed. The parasite lives on or in the host and benefits by feeding on it. An example
of this are tapeworms that live inside the intestines of organisms. The organism is harmed, since they
are not getting the nutrients from the food that they are eating, but the tapeworm benefits, as it is
getting the food and nutrients it needs to survive. Tapeworm larvae can also migrate throughout the
body, therefore harming other organs and tissues as well. In mutualism, both species benefit. One
example are lichens, which are formed by fungi and algae living together. The algae undergo

Socrates Defense Essay
The accusers, Meletos, Anytos, and Lycon, are all young and trying to make a name for themselves.
They begin by telling everyone not to be deceived and to take caution because Socrates is a clever
speaker . According to Socrates, the difference between him and his accusers is that he speaks the
truth. He is on trial for two items, which include, corrupting the youth and impiety. Socrates tells
everyone that he has no experience with the court and he will speak the way he is used to by being
honest and direct. Socrates explains that his behavior is from the oracle of Apollo at Delphi.

The other possibility is that he does not corrupt them at all. Third, in frustration, Meletos accuses
Socrates of being nonbeliever, at the same time he claims Socrates teaches new gods. Thus, Meletos
contradicts himself. Socrates argues that fear of death is foolish, because it is not known if death is a
good or an evil, thus there is no reason to fear death. Socrates claims that his mission is in service to
God.
Socrates does not throw himself on the mercy of the court. Many would bring in their children to win
pity. However, he does mention that he has three young children and he tells the jury about their
responsibility to ignore the appeals to pity and judge the truth. Despite Socrates speech, the jury finds
him guilty as charged. Meletos proposes death as punishment. Instead, Socrates proposes retirement in
a home for benefactors of the state. He examines possible penalties: death, imprisonment, a fine, or
exile. The jury sentences him to death. Socrates remarks that his internal, guiding voice, which at
times would warn him to refrain from certain actions, had not once interrupted his actions in his
defense. If Socrates finds that they believe themselves to be wiser than they really are, he points out
their mistake, thus educates them and himself.

high priced veteran players one game away from making the NFL playoffs back in 2015, things weren
t ever the same. The organization recognized that going all out and spending every penny the team had
left in cap space was not the way to success and committed themselves to rebuilding reconstructing
with youth.
In an article written by Eric Allen of NewYorkJets.com, owner Woody Johnson stated the following in
regards to this:
If you want to go to the promise land, you have to go in a certain direction. I think what we have done
over the years is traded picks away and we ve had too big of an emphasis on free agency and not
enough emphasis on developing our own, he

Rise And Fall Of The Civil Rights Summary
The beginning of, KKK The Rise and Fall of the Civil Rights , starts off with the opening of a KKK
rally happening in Raleigh North Carolina, on August, 14, 1966. Bob Jones, one of the major klan
leaders, was a speaker at that day. Jones was born right outside of Charlotte, North Carolina, he was a
high school dropout, and not soon after a discharged from the navy for not saluting a black officer.
Next, the presentation draws our attention to a battle scene of the Civil War, during this time is when
the organization was born. A group of soldiers from Tennessee would pose as dead confederate
soldiers and terrorized newly freed slaves. Throwing them over bridges, torturing, and hanging them.
Throughout history the KKK would rise in numbers ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
At his first over 2000 people showed up, which later would turn into the hundreds of thousands. While
he was traveling, he recruited minister Dorset who became the klans priest at every event. Dorset and
Jones became a deadly duo. The Andy Griffith show was a representation of what North Carolina
thought of itself, co existing with blacks. Never had anything to say, just went along with the whites
peacefully. During this time in the 60 s, NC had become the new south moving out of its racial period.
They didn t want to really change, but would gradually take steps forward just to say they were doing
more than everybody else in the south.
But this wasn t enough for blacks, in 64 the civil rights movement revved up once again. The KKK
supported the traditionalist idea, and spoke for the people being left out of the new south . BJ started
his political gatherings again, only whites aloud. During the day, there would be rides, food,
entertainment, and more, but, at night they would bring out the klans speakers. Dorset targeted and
manipulated the religious crowd of the small country towns into further believing in what they were
already thinking, through religion, justifying racism, and it

The Importance Of Bilingualism
Speaking another language is like being a part of a secret club that only people who can speak your
language have a membership to. When you run into a person who speaks the same language as you in
public, you get excited and converse with them because you have found another member of the club.
To people who are non bilingual, bilingualism may be used to classify those who do not belong in
your country. To English language learners, bilingualism is one s identity and their connection with
their culture. The different opinions on bilingualism have created conflict and struggles for non native
speakers. Espada describes bilingualism in The New Bathroom Policy at English High School as
something that defines one s identity and history. He expresses it as dual language speakers being able
to use the tongue of their history and identity (19). With the increasing attempts to get rid of non
native speakers, English language learners should fight to preserve their identities. Espada argues, The
repression of Spanish is part of a larger attempt to silence Latinos, and, like the crazy uncle at the
family dinner table yelling about independence or socialism, we must refuse to be silenced (297).
Espada argues that bilingual people have the responsibility to protect their culture by going against the
repression of their language. In order to prevent the silencing of a language, bilingualists must band
together. Going out in public and hearing a foreign language, people subconsciously assume the
foreigners are speaking about them. Native speakers become self conscious and filled with fear.
Espada believes non bilingual people s attempts to silence English language learners result from the
fear of not understanding a foreign language. A staff member at Lynn English High School stated, In a
spasm of paranoia, many Anglos assume that the only reason Latinos speak Spanish in their presence
is to say diabolical things about those same Anglos (Espada 121). The inability to understand the
Latino s language results in the assumption that they re badmouthing Anglos. Espada points out that
bilingualism generates toxicity because English only speakers feel bilingual people are talking behind
their back. Espada views

Margaret Atwood Handmaid Quotes
1. On page 26, Margaret Atwood first mentions the names of other Handmaids. This is from the quote:
Offwayne. No. Ofwarren. What jumped out at me here was how all of the mentioned handmaids seem
to have their names beginning with Of . First of all, the letter O looks like a womb or an egg. This
possibly hints at their already evident role in society to procreate and have children for the
commanders. But, if the reader goes a step further, it is evident all the handmaids have names that
begin with Of . This alludes to the principle that the handmaids belong to their commanders, and that
they have to do their duty, and nothing more. They are simply owned, like tools. The society went so
far as to even include this ownership in their names. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
There are many instances in the novel, where Offred pauses in the middle of her story and in a way
complains to the audience about how hard it is to tell this story. For example: It s also a story I m
telling, in my head, as I go along. Tell, rather than write, because I have nothing to write with and
writing is in any case forbidden. But if it s a story, even in my head ... But it s not good, because I
know you can t. (39 40) On numerous occasions, Offred tells the reader that it is easier to tell if you
think that it is just a story, and never happened to her for real. These bits of emotion make us
sympathetic for the protagonist, and make the reader more deeply believe what she is telling us. In
addition, such quotes offer an explanation to why the protagonist sometimes randomly switches
topics, and why she tells us her story in such a short and choppy manner. Atwood does this to show
that Offred s emotions are seeping through, that she is a human just like us. This enables the reader to
better connect to the story. Atwood simply does this to make the story more believable by including
these details of completely normal human emotions when telling a hard story. This enables the reader
to better compare the novel s dystopian society with reality, thus making any messages Atwood is
trying to convey more

Aircraft Scheduling and Fleet Management
The primary considerations for airline scheduling are routes that provide optimum public
service...consistent with the financial health of the carrier (Wensveen, 2011). In addition to that, there
are numerous other factors that must be taken into account. These factors include: equipment
maintenance, crews, facilities, marketing factors, and other factors such as wind patterns and what I
would call rush hour . The aircraft must be scheduled so as to allow adequate time for routine
maintenance, as well as a buffer to meet unscheduled maintenance requirements. Crews must be
scheduled with adequate crew rest periods allowed, as well as avoiding over flying the maximum
hours as directed by the Federal Aviation Regulations. Facilities ... Show more content on

To accomplish this, Great Lakes Airlines relies heavily on the EAS program. After deregulation, the
EAS was established so that the small, rural areas that had reaped the benefits of air service prior to
1978 would continue to do so. Because these small routes are not profitable for airlines to provide
service to, they are heavily subsidized by the government. Since 2001, the percentage of revenue from
the EAS program (as a percentage of gross revenue) has been as low as 19% and as high as 50%. In
2013 this number was at 42% (Nickerson, 2013). Great Lakes is also able to rely on these subsidies to
keep their pricing competitive with other airlines. They also reap the benefits of being able to offer
access to United s and Frontier s frequent flyer programs as a method of keeping themselves
competitive. For the promotion portion, Great Lakes relies on its internet website, code share partners
websites, the Delta.com website, global distributions systems (travel agencies and travel agent
websites) and our reservation system s call center (US SEC, 2013). As for place, Great Lakes services
the small regional airports that the majors don t fly into. Because it just would not be profitable for the
larger airlines to operate into these smaller airports, Great Lakes (along with the other small regionals)
have carved out a niche.

Hally s Optimism In Master Harold And The Boys
Some people in the world may view a glass half empty, and some half full. This can be used to tell a
lot about somebody. Throughout the play Master Harold and The Boys Hally and Sam s characters are
introduced, and there are numerous times when Sam s positivity will outshine Hally s negativity, or
vice versa. Hally s pessimistic attitude shows a clear juxtaposition to Sam s optimism. This is seen
through Sam trying to make sure Hally has something good in his life to remember, Hally being
verbally negative about the comic books, later on physically and verbally attacking Sam, and Sam
attempting to stay calm and positive. There are not many of Hally s childhood memories shown
throughout the play, let alone happy ones. The happy ones that were shown, though, were from Sam.
Hally reminisces on the Afternoons in Sam s room as the good times with Willy and Sam (32). Along

Hally begins to raise his voice at Sam and then begins making racially insensitive jokes, with
indirectly calling Sam a n***er (55). After Sam defensively responds to Hally, he spits in [Sam s] face
(56). The fact that Hally committed these vile acts after having had Sam as one of his best friends his
entire life, this just supports the idea that Hally is a naturally pessimistic person about most aspects in
his life. Even though Hally spits on and verbally abuses Sam, Sam stays calm after the whole thing.
After having Hally attack Sam, Sam manages to stay calm through it, and in the end, he ends up
asking Hally if he wants to try again to fly a new kite (59). This is symbolic of Hally and Sam
attempting to try again to mend their relationship and go back to how they were. Sam offering up this
opportunity to Hally after he had just been attacked shows how much of a positive and optimistic
person Sam is, to focus on the future and how they can move past

Colosseum Research Paper
Take a look at pictures of the White House or Capitol Building, or stand on the green grass of
Washington mall and see for yourself. These buildings, standing so prestigious, have pillars and
arches, standing so tall. These buildings have many of the same features of the building in Rome. The
breathtaking marble stone is what composes the unique structure of the Capitol building, which is
what the Colosseum in Rome is also composed of. The architectural ideas captured in many buildings
in the United States, such as the Capitol building and the White House, were invented by Romans.
This group of people learned to create buildings that could stand for thousands of years and they used
this idea to expand the Roman empire. Because of Roman s ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

The Colosseum was one of Ancient Rome s biggest buildings, the architects carefully constructed
every little part of the building. Since the Colosseum was so large, plans such as paths for people to
come and go from the building were a critical part of the planning for the building process. While
creating these circulation paths, the architects had to keep in mind the separation of the Roman
classes, making sure not to have the high classes cross paths with the lower classes. Because of this
class structure, large buildings, like the Colosseum, gave people of all classes the opportunity to enjoy
a communal activity, reflecting the frugality of the Roman people. Another important factor that was
taken into consideration during the creation of Roman architecture was how to correctly convey the
values of the growing religious population in Rome. According to Churches and Basilicas, the Roman
empire was rapidly growing in religion because of Emperor Constantine s new toleration for
Christianity. Because of this increase in religious believers, churches were in high demand, forcing the
architects to create enormous buildings to worship in, while aiming to reflect the values of
Christianity. These churches helped influence the growing popularity of religion throughout Rome,
and the extravagant buildings attracted numerous followers, which, in return helped religion to grow
as a whole. Many centuries after these churches were built, numerous churches all around the world
were still being built with similar designs that were originally created by the Romans. However,
churches were not the only remarkable buildings that were being created by Roman architects, and
different types of buildings began to rise up on Roman

  • 2. Canada In Ww1 In 1914, Canada was a British colony as it had been a part of the British Empire ever since the 1600 s, with a majority of Canadian citizens being of British descent. But, with Canada s participation in World War I on the front lines and domestically, Canada repeatedly proved that colony is not something that should be used to describe itself. Despite some of the costs, Canadians took it upon themselves to show the Allies and the Germans who they truly are. We emerged from the war, as not only independent of British control, but also as a major global superpower due to the Allies military dependence on us, the economy developing skyward and full jurisdiction in foreign affairs. At the start of WWI, Canadian troops fought with the British ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Throughout the war, with the multitude and variety of different programs, Canada s economy exploded by four times due to the influx of products being produced for the Allies. By doing this, Canada in turn also changed its economy in a full self sustaining Canadian identity. For example, due to the desperate need for ammunition and war weapons, Canada built countless factories across the country to service the demand. It was solely a business agreement, a plan where terms involved trade and money, between Britain and Canada. Many citizens came up to work in the industrial production so that Canada could stabilize itself as a dominant global economy, starting what was called the Home Front. Millions of dollars in war goods were being manufactured and shipped to the Allies, including artillery shells, and munitions. Many people also bought war bonds to strengthen Canada s economy so that they could return huge profits. Farming also soared during these years, where many teenagers working on the farms to yield huge quantities of food for the Allies with the Soldiers of the Soil program. Women and children also helped create care packages for the soldiers so that they could enjoy delicacies from home. All of this proved that Canada was an equal economic partner and a huge global force, working with the Allies to ensure the war ran smoothly. This ultimately led to significant leaps on how the economy of Canada ran, based solely on their own ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

A lot of people are going to college in order to be in this type of work. They learn how each field work and also how challenging the field has become over the years. It is fascinating how much these fields are so vast but yet similar. Many people that want to get into this field find that it can be helpful to learn firsthand how these industries have functioned economically in the past and figure out how they will function in years to come. Lodge Management requires a person to have great communication skills and must be diverse. The Key management functions are planning, organizing, decision making, communicating, human resources and motivating and controlling (Introduction to hospitality pg.539). These functions can be stressful. Lodge management roles require a person to be on their feet all day, sometimes more than a regular 8 hour day, they usually require them to work during the day and then have to come back on another shift if necessary. Most managers that work in the lodging fields are on call most of the time; even if it s the front desk manager, the housekeeping manager or food and beverage. • 4. The Importance of New Zealand’s Forestry Industry Essay New Zealand s forests are one of its greatest natural resources, holding significant financial, physical, and spiritual value (DOC, 2013). These forests provide a significant trading resource (Perry, Oren, Hart, 2008), directly influence soil and flora quality (West, 2006), and contribute to the cultural health of Maori by enhancing their whakapapa (or Connection with the land) (Gallagher Te Atawhai o te Ao, 2011). This resource, however, is under threat through poor management (Levack, Poole, Bateson, 2006), over exploitation (MPI, 2003) and the operating conditions of the Forestry Industry (ACC, 2007). This assignment will examine the impact that deforestation may have on New Zealand, and possible models for rectifying the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... According to ACC reports, there were 200 serious injuries and fatalities in 2012, leading to a financial cost to ACC of $10 million dollars (ACC, 2014). The emotional cost of the death of a family member, is incalculable (Bowlby West, 1983), and the resulting void may instigate feelings of disbelief, shock and anger by the co victims (family), especially without prior mental and emotional readiness (Clements, DeRanieri, Vigil Benasutti, 2004), such as would occur if a family member died of a terminal illness. An example of this void can be observed in the case of Mr Charles Finlay of Tokoroa, who was one of twenty eight forestry workers to lose his life, in the workplace since 2008. (The New Zealand Herald, 2013). Finlay left behind a widow (Maryanne Butler Finlay) with three children, as composed in Bowen, (2013), stating That the family are struggling to get over the death and are undergoing grief counselling, also requiring time off school to recover from their shortfall . In addition to the hazards posed by the industry, there have been studies conducted that suggest mass deforestation of an area can result in a decrease in air ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Genetically Modified Foods and Organisms Essay The people s interest in where their foods come from and how they are processed has increased steadily with growing health concerns and ecological problems. As the amount of genetically modified (GM) crops have increased rapidly in recent years, the debates on whether GM foods are truly beneficial or not have become prevalent. Scientists around the world are making their sentiments known. Over eight hundred scientists around the world signed an open letter to all governments, the UN, the World Trade Organization, and the U.S. Congress calling for a ban on genetically modified organisms, seeds, and foods (Batalion). The major drawbacks include allergies, decreased nutritional value, increased toxicity, and antibiotic resistance ( Harmful Effects of the Agent ). First, because genetically modified organisms are created through a mixture of various genes from other organisms that might cause an allergic reaction, consuming these products poses as a threat to the individuals who have serious allergic reactions. Theoretically, the genetically modified foods have low nutrition because of the gene modification process. For instance, genetically modified soybeans produce fewer phytoestrogen compounds, chemicals that keep the heart healthy, than the traditional soybeans (Batalion). Third, from animals to humans, all organisms that consume genetically modified organisms, which usually contain antibiotic resistant genes, could develop tolerance to antibiotics due to excessive exposure. On the other hand, detrimental bacteria and viruses could also develop resistance to the antibiotics in the future, making humans more vulnerable. Lastly, to increase the efficiency of agriculture, scientists have engineered crops to produce pesticides on their own. The biotechnology companies claim that the small amount of these pesticides barely affects human health, but the safety of ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 6. Face Recognition Hi class, You already mentioned some very interesting examples of where face recognition could be used or already is in use. Authentication is needed more and more in a digitalized world. At first, I thought face recognition could be useful for unlocking phones or open door locks, for example. But I came to notice that there are situations in which this face recognition could actually be disturbing or even dangerous. Imagine a person having an accident and somebody tries to call for help using the cell phone of this person. Help could be hindered by a phone only unlocking through face recognition of the owner. A similar situation would arise in a burning house. The owner being trapped inside, firefighters may not be able to enter the house for help as quickly as they could without a face recognition lock. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... There is no situation I can think of in which somebody else would legally have to use somebody else s bank card. Another positive aspect of face recognition in bank business would be people not having to remember so many pin numbers. Many ATMs already have cameras installed, so why not use those cameras for authentication? Even in stores cameras could be used to identify people. The same applies for bank counters or online banking services. Especially the topic of online credit card fraud would be interesting for using face recognition, as a lot of fraud is committed over the anonymity of the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The basic services are free while the premium gives the more advanced features. Spotify provides more access to thousands of albums and artists and allows people to listen to some of their favorite songs for free. It has changed the way music platforms are hosted on the internet and provides easier access to artist s music online. A strategy that Spotify uses to help achieve their position is by selling premium services to people and using advertisements from third parties. If people enjoy the website enough, they will pay to get even better services from the website. They also offer to pay artists and copyright holders royalties if they stream their music on the website. This helps them get their revenue. The company pays 70% of revenue to the copyright holders. Spotify tries to push for people to pay for the music which is the source of most of their revenue. The subscription usually removes advertisements and limits on the songs. • 8. Gender Themes In The Girl In Blue By Ann Rinaldi There is a theme in The Girl in Blue by Ann Rinaldi. The theme is that gender does not affect skill level. The Girl in Blue is set in 1861, and is about a Michigan native by the name of Sarah Louisa. She is about to be forced to marry a man of her abusive father s choice when she decides to run away and join the army. She joins the army under the ruse that she is a boy and participates in the battle of Bull Run but her gender is eventually found out by her doctor and general. She is not punished for her actions but discharged and sent to work as a spy for the Pinkerton agency. She is sent to spy on a southern ally who is under house arrest to find out how she is sending messages to the south. She discovers how and is rewarded with a break. She travels home to find her abusive father had died and her sister is betrothed to the man she ran from. She leaves to go back to her job as a spy and that is where the story ends. Some of the reasons the theme could be gender not affecting skill level is that first of all the general does not punish her for her actions. Second, she is sent to work as a spy for a job only a woman could do. Lastly, before she even goes to war she has to do all the work for the house instead of her father. When Sarah is discovered as a girl by her doctor and general she is not discharged. This is because she has shown prowess on the battlefield and in the hospital tent as well. On the battlefield, she had the courage to shoot a cavalry officer instead of one of the footmen, and she aimed the shot perfectly at his heart. This shows how she is able to take charge and to stay calm in a hectic situation. She had the peace of mind to get on a knee aim the gun and fire a fatal shot to the heart. furthermore, while in both places she had to hide the fact that she was a girl while surrounded by men. In the hospital she tried not to get sick by taking the bitters which is a medicine to prevent smallpox so she wouldn t be examined by Dr.Hammond, the doctor at that hospital tent. In fact, about one half of the organization s patient s use doctors at Planned Parenthood as their primary physicians, because they would be unable to afford anything else. Planned Parenthood also provides accurate sexual education, and they speak about all forms of birth control, including abstinence, and the dangers of sexually transmitted diseases. 26 states require abstinence only education, and some argue that by not providing other information about sexual health, this increases the chance of unintended pregnancy. In fact, the two states with the highest rates of teen pregnancy are Mississippi and New Mexico. Mississippi does not require sex education, but when it is taught, it is restricted to be abstinence only, and New Mexico has no requirements at all about what should be included in sex education. • 10. Was Nazi Germany A Totalitarian State Firstly, Nazi Germany is widely recognized as a totalitarian form of state. In fact, when Hitler had risen to power, there was one strong party system which controlled the whole state and politics of the country, fact which is considered to be one of the most important features of this form of state. In addition, as also Max Weber has agreed, Hitler has always been portrayed as a strong and charismatic leader which helped him to be classified as a totalitarian leader. Most importantly, he was able to impose his ideology which became the official credo of the state. Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... If Franco s political system in Spain is taken an example the differences between totalitarian and authoritarian forms of state are explicit. Although Franco, who came to power in the aftermath of the Civil War, was both chief and head of government, he was not as charismatic as Hitler. For example, according to the book Charisma and leadership , Franco was not a leader with a strong charisma and ideology, in fact, his will was just to remain in power and govern a repressive rule in Spain. In fact, in contrast to Franco, Hitler could persuade people and was able to get everyone s support in order to get elected. In addition, his abilities in public speaking were very effective and convinced many people to follow him. In contrast to Hitler s totalitarian form of state, Franco s one did not have an official ideology and this was not of primary concern to him: Ideology or political theories were not the primary motivators in Franco s developing of the institutions that came to be identified with his name. It is therefore clear that Franco s unique and main goal was to maintain power and in order to do so he contrasted the anti Spain forces from gaining ascendancy . • 11. Character Analysis Of Norman Lear Living by the restrictions that society places upon us, humanity is constrained to follow rules. Television writers were forced to write a certain way and were forced to leave out information that society would deem as improper, rude, and even racist. However, in 1971, a groundbreaking American television sitcom broke through societal boundaries and transformed the way that the American audience viewed television. Engulfed by the Vietnam War, Civil Rights Movement of the 1950s and 1960s, fight for women s right, and the Watergate scandal, Norman Lear persevered through stereotypes and entertainment norms with his show All in the Family. This show approached its audience in a very blunt and crude manner; it made conflict the center of its comedy. It dealt with contemporary cultural issues in a relatable way, which blue allowed blue collar workers to learn about their current everyday issues and concerns. Through his show All in the Family, Norman Lear highlighted sensitive topics such as racism, bigotry, and sexual relations to prove that they are still alive in our country; thus, Norman Lear is an agent of change by bringing awareness to social issues. Born in 1922 to a very atypical family, Norman Lear had to become very independent. Norman Lear s father, Herman, was a conman who was arrested when Norman was nine years old. In an interview with PBS broadcast journalist Jeffrey Brown, Norman relives the moments of his dad s arrest, recounting the time when a man came up to him, pat him on his shoulder, and uttered [Norman] You re the man in the house (Source). It was at this moment that Lear realized the foolishness of the human condition. He wondered what kind of person would place such a great responsibility on a nine year old child, especially during times of hardship and sadness. What made Norman Lear s childhood even appalling was that he could not rely on his mother for support; everything Norman did was only satisfactory in her eyes. To escape his unsupportive life, Lear enlisted in the military and became a fighter pilot during World War II. After completing 52 combat missions, he headed west in an effort to make a social impact through writing comedy. After impressing his colleagues, he was hired as ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Howard Hughes was one of the most famous aviators of all time with the production of his world wide known plane called the Spruce Goose . (Howard Robard Hughes) Howard Hughes was born in Humble, Texas on December 24, 1905. Hughes was very creative and ingenious, but an individualistic and private person. As a kid, he spent his time drawing automobiles, trains, planes, and boats. His father, Howard Senior, invented a new type of drill bit for the booming oil industry. The Sharp and Hughes Company was created, and quickly expanded in Texas, California, and other states. His mother, Allene, isolated Hughes from the real world with her relentless fears of germs, disease, and death. At the age of fourteen, Hughes was deeply interested in mechanics and engines. He inherited the love of creating technical solutions from his father. As a way to resist his mother to refuse to buy him a motorcycle, he turned his bicycle into a motorized bike. At first, castles were built for military and government means. As centuries went on, hostilities subsided, and wealth started to flow during Renaissance, nobility and royalty started to create vanity castles that were used to be summer houses, hunting houses and royal houses. • 19. Aristotle View On Friendship Friendship is an important asset in the world we live in, the young needs friendship to retain them from error, older people need it to care for them and those in their prime time need it, to do fine actions. No one would choose to live without friends because friendship is very important and it holds cities together. The philosopher, Aristotle quoted friendship has A single soul dwelling in two bodies. Aristotle takes the concept of friendship to a major level. His concept of friendship is assertive and comprehensive. Subsequently, Aristotle divided each concept into three sections or in other words three types of friendship. He first distinguishes and contrasts the three types of friendships. More importantly Aristotle takes into consideration that friendship is a necessity to live, however, it is not only necessary, but also fine. He also characterizes friendship as a virtue and as just. The three different types of friendship correspond to the three objects of love, which are, things that are useful (advantage friendship), things that are pleasant (pleasure friendship), and finally the third, things that are good (good friendship). Firstly, Aristotle observed advantage friendship as a type of friendship that the friend is not loved for his or her own sake, however, they are loved for the sake of some good obtained from the other. This friendship does not last according to Aristotle due to the purpose that once the benefit of the good in the friendship comes to an end, so does the friendship, in other words, their pleasure in each other no longer goes beyond their expectations of advantage. For each individual finds the other pleasant only to the point that each would expect some good for themselves. Individuals with these types of friendship, take satisfaction from each other s company just for their own sake. To elaborate a more practical name for this type of friendship would be an acquaintance. Hence such people do not find each other advantageous, therefore they have no need to meet. This type of friendship can be seen amongst older people, seeing that at that age they seek for what is advantageous. In brief, friendship of utility is often between opposite people, and is based on something that ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The parasite lives on or in the host and benefits by feeding on it. An example of this are tapeworms that live inside the intestines of organisms. • 33. Socrates Defense Essay The accusers, Meletos, Anytos, and Lycon, are all young and trying to make a name for themselves. They begin by telling everyone not to be deceived and to take caution because Socrates is a clever speaker . According to Socrates, the difference between him and his accusers is that he speaks the truth. He is on trial for two items, which include, corrupting the youth and impiety. Socrates tells everyone that he has no experience with the court and he will speak the way he is used to by being honest and direct. Socrates explains that his behavior is from the oracle of Apollo at Delphi. The oracle was asked if anyone was wiser than Socrates was. The answer was no, there was no man wiser. Third, in frustration, Meletos accuses Socrates of being nonbeliever, at the same time he claims Socrates teaches new gods. Thus, Meletos contradicts himself. Socrates argues that fear of death is foolish, because it is not known if death is a good or an evil, thus there is no reason to fear death. Socrates claims that his mission is in service to God. Socrates does not throw himself on the mercy of the court. Many would bring in their children to win pity. However, he does mention that he has three young children and he tells the jury about their responsibility to ignore the appeals to pity and judge the truth. Despite Socrates speech, the jury finds him guilty as charged. Meletos proposes death as punishment. Instead, Socrates proposes retirement in a home for benefactors of the state. He examines possible penalties: death, imprisonment, a fine, or exile. The jury sentences him to death. Socrates remarks that his internal, guiding voice, which at times would warn him to refrain from certain actions, had not once interrupted his actions in his defense. If Socrates finds that they believe themselves to be wiser than they really are, he points out their mistake, thus educates them and himself. Rise And Fall Of The Civil Rights Summary The beginning of, KKK The Rise and Fall of the Civil Rights , starts off with the opening of a KKK rally happening in Raleigh North Carolina, on August, 14, 1966. During this time in the 60 s, NC had become the new south moving out of its racial period. They didn t want to really change, but would gradually take steps forward just to say they were doing more than everybody else in the south. But this wasn t enough for blacks, in 64 the civil rights movement revved up once again. The KKK supported the traditionalist idea, and spoke for the people being left out of the new south . BJ started his political gatherings again, only whites aloud. During the day, there would be rides, food, entertainment, and more, but, at night they would bring out the klans speakers. • 38. The Importance Of Bilingualism Speaking another language is like being a part of a secret club that only people who can speak your language have a membership to. When you run into a person who speaks the same language as you in public, you get excited and converse with them because you have found another member of the club. To people who are non bilingual, bilingualism may be used to classify those who do not belong in your country. To English language learners, bilingualism is one s identity and their connection with their culture. The different opinions on bilingualism have created conflict and struggles for non native speakers. Espada describes bilingualism in The New Bathroom Policy at English High School as something that defines one s identity and history. He expresses it as dual language speakers being able to use the tongue of their history and identity (19). With the increasing attempts to get rid of non native speakers, English language learners should fight to preserve their identities. Espada argues, The repression of Spanish is part of a larger attempt to silence Latinos, and, like the crazy uncle at the family dinner table yelling about independence or socialism, we must refuse to be silenced (297). Espada argues that bilingual people have the responsibility to protect their culture by going against the repression of their language. In order to prevent the silencing of a language, bilingualists must band together. Going out in public and hearing a foreign language, people subconsciously assume the foreigners are speaking about them. Native speakers become self conscious and filled with fear. Espada believes non bilingual people s attempts to silence English language learners result from the fear of not understanding a foreign language. A staff member at Lynn English High School stated, In a spasm of paranoia, many Anglos assume that the only reason Latinos speak Spanish in their presence is to say diabolical things about those same Anglos (Espada 121). The inability to understand the Latino s language results in the assumption that they re badmouthing Anglos. Espada points out that bilingualism generates toxicity because English only speakers feel bilingual people are talking behind their back. Espada views ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 39. Margaret Atwood Handmaid Quotes 1. On page 26, Margaret Atwood first mentions the names of other Handmaids. This is from the quote: Offwayne. No. Ofwarren. What jumped out at me here was how all of the mentioned handmaids seem to have their names beginning with Of . First of all, the letter O looks like a womb or an egg. This possibly hints at their already evident role in society to procreate and have children for the commanders. But, if the reader goes a step further, it is evident all the handmaids have names that begin with Of . This alludes to the principle that the handmaids belong to their commanders, and that they have to do their duty, and nothing more. They are simply owned, like tools. The society went so far as to even include this ownership in their names. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... There are many instances in the novel, where Offred pauses in the middle of her story and in a way complains to the audience about how hard it is to tell this story. But if it s a story, even in my head ... But it s not good, because I know you can t. (39 40) On numerous occasions, Offred tells the reader that it is easier to tell if you think that it is just a story, and never happened to her for real. These bits of emotion make us sympathetic for the protagonist, and make the reader more deeply believe what she is telling us. In addition, such quotes offer an explanation to why the protagonist sometimes randomly switches topics, and why she tells us her story in such a short and choppy manner. Atwood does this to show that Offred s emotions are seeping through, that she is a human just like us. This enables the reader to better connect to the story. Atwood simply does this to make the story more believable by including these details of completely normal human emotions when telling a hard story. This enables the reader to better compare the novel s dystopian society with reality, thus making any messages Atwood is trying to convey more ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 40. Aircraft Scheduling and Fleet Management The primary considerations for airline scheduling are routes that provide optimum public service...consistent with the financial health of the carrier (Wensveen, 2011). In addition to that, there are numerous other factors that must be taken into account. These factors include: equipment maintenance, crews, facilities, marketing factors, and other factors such as wind patterns and what I would call rush hour . The aircraft must be scheduled so as to allow adequate time for routine maintenance, as well as a buffer to meet unscheduled maintenance requirements. Crews must be scheduled with adequate crew rest periods allowed, as well as avoiding over flying the maximum hours as directed by the Federal Aviation Regulations. Facilities ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... To accomplish this, Great Lakes Airlines relies heavily on the EAS program. After deregulation, the EAS was established so that the small, rural areas that had reaped the benefits of air service prior to 1978 would continue to do so. Because these small routes are not profitable for airlines to provide service to, they are heavily subsidized by the government. Since 2001, the percentage of revenue from the EAS program (as a percentage of gross revenue) has been as low as 19% and as high as 50%. In 2013 this number was at 42% (Nickerson, 2013). Great Lakes is also able to rely on these subsidies to keep their pricing competitive with other airlines. They also reap the benefits of being able to offer access to United s and Frontier s frequent flyer programs as a method of keeping themselves competitive. For the promotion portion, Great Lakes relies on its internet website, code share partners websites, the Delta.com website, global distributions systems (travel agencies and travel agent websites) and our reservation system s call center (US SEC, 2013). As for place, Great Lakes services the small regional airports that the majors don t fly into. • 41. Hally s Optimism In Master Harold And The Boys Some people in the world may view a glass half empty, and some half full. This can be used to tell a lot about somebody. Throughout the play Master Harold and The Boys Hally and Sam s characters are introduced, and there are numerous times when Sam s positivity will outshine Hally s negativity, or vice versa. Hally s pessimistic attitude shows a clear juxtaposition to Sam s optimism. This is seen through Sam trying to make sure Hally has something good in his life to remember, Hally being verbally negative about the comic books, later on physically and verbally attacking Sam, and Sam attempting to stay calm and positive. There are not many of Hally s childhood memories shown throughout the play, let alone happy ones. The happy ones that were shown, though, were from Sam. Hally reminisces on the Afternoons in Sam s room as the good times with Willy and Sam (32). Along with Sam ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Even though Hally spits on and verbally abuses Sam, Sam stays calm after the whole thing. After having Hally attack Sam, Sam manages to stay calm through it, and in the end, he ends up asking Hally if he wants to try again to fly a new kite (59). This is symbolic of Hally and Sam attempting to try again to mend their relationship and go back to how they were. The breathtaking marble stone is what composes the unique structure of the Capitol building, which is what the Colosseum in Rome is also composed of. Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The Colosseum was one of Ancient Rome s biggest buildings, the architects carefully constructed every little part of the building. Since the Colosseum was so large, plans such as paths for people to come and go from the building were a critical part of the planning for the building process. While creating these circulation paths, the architects had to keep in mind the separation of the Roman classes, making sure not to have the high classes cross paths with the lower classes. Because of this class structure, large buildings, like the Colosseum, gave people of all classes the opportunity to enjoy a communal activity, reflecting the frugality of the Roman people. Another important factor that was taken into consideration during the creation of Roman architecture was how to correctly convey the values of the growing religious population in Rome. According to Churches and Basilicas, the Roman empire was rapidly growing in religion because of Emperor Constantine s new toleration for Christianity. Because of this increase in religious believers, churches were in high demand, forcing the architects to create enormous buildings to worship in, while aiming to reflect the values of Christianity. These churches helped influence the growing popularity of religion throughout Rome, and the extravagant buildings attracted numerous followers, which, in return helped religion to grow as a whole. Many centuries after these churches were built, numerous churches all around the world were still being built with similar designs that were originally created by the Romans. However, churches were not the only remarkable buildings that were being created by Roman architects, and different types of buildings began to rise up on Roman ...
