St. Valentines Day Massacre Of Chicago Essay
From 1924 to 1930, the city of Chicago gained a widespread reputation for lawlessness and violence.
Not coincidentally, this phenomenon coincided with the reign of chief crime lord Al Scarface Capone,
who took over from his boss Johnny Torrio in 1925. (Torrio, who was seriously wounded in an
assassination attempt in 1924, had retired to Brooklyn.) Prohibition, ushered in by the passage of the
18th Amendment in 1920, had greatly increased the earnings of America s gangsters through
bootlegging (the illegal manufacture and sale of alcohol) and speakeasies (illicit drinking
establishments), as well as gambling and prostitution. Capone s income from these activities was
estimated at some $60 million a year; his net worth in 1927 was around ... Show more content on

Federal authorities, including the Federal
Bureau of Investigation, had much less jurisdiction than they have today, and did not include Chicago
s gang related activity. Chicago s gang war reached its bloody climax in the so called St. Valentine s
Day Massacre of
1929. One of Capone s longtime enemies, the Irish gangster George Bugs
Moran, ran his bootlegging operations out of a garage on the North Side of
Chicago. On February 14, seven members of Moran s operation were gunned down while standing
lined up, facing the wall of the garage. Some 70 rounds of ammunition were fired. When police
officers from Chicago s 36th District arrived, they found one gang member, Frank Gusenberg, barely
alive. In the few minutes before he died, they pressed him to reveal what had happened, but
Gusenberg wouldn t talk.Police could find only a few eyewitnesses, but eventually concluded that
gunmen dressed as police officers had entered the garage and pretended to be arresting the men.
Though Moran and others immediately blamed the massacre on Capone s gang, the famous gangster
himself claimed to have been at his home in Florida at the time. No one

The Complete Persepolis Marjane Satrapi Analysis
In her graphic novel The Complete Persepolis, Marjane Satrapi explores different identities and works
through troubling hardships as she comes closer to who she truly is as an educated Iranian woman.
Satrapi expresses the many trials and tribulations she endured while living in and out of Iran during
parts of the Islamic Revolution, all whilst trying to find her identity as a child, teenager, and adult.
Although she loses herself along the way, she always finds her true identity and self worth by putting
her interests and wellbeing first, and learning she must be proud and comfortable in her own self in
order to thrive. In the midst of losing family, friends, and herself, Satrapi learns what she believes her
purpose in life is, and what ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Young Marji trusted in her faith in God and knew with her knowledge of the world around her that
[She] wanted to be a prophet (6). As the war circled around her, events followed and Marji briskly lost
track of who she was working to be. Status differences between her and her friend s families brewed
jealousy in her, and all Marji wanted was to prove that There [were] lots of heroes in her family (64)
of which were braver and better than any other family. This was only the start of young Marji losing
her identity, and feeling the need to be like everyone else, or even prove she was better than them.
As a teenager away from her family, Satrapi lost herself even more. In Vienna, she made a new,
unique group of friends of which influenced her greatly. She was exposed to sex, drugs, and alcohol,
which caused a change within her. Her assimilation into the western culture not only generated a
mental conversion but [her] mental transformation was followed by [a] physical transformation (189).
With a drastic alteration to her appearance, Satrapi attracted more and more people, which prompted

Dependable Tray Truck Research Paper
Growing up in a family that runs a construction supplies store, I completely understand how important
it is to invest in a dependable tray truck. Essentially, having the right rig in your business will make it
easier for you to ship your building materials, such as cement, sand, glass fibers, and wood, to your
customers location safely and on time. Now, if you re currently in the hunt for a tray truck to add to
your operations, I know a couple of models that you can look into. I will share them all with you,
starting with my most favored: the Hino Dutro 616. Impressively, this Hino working dog is one of the
trucks that has received several good feedback from operators. Let s figure out why by getting into its
features and capabilities below. Hino Dutro 616 Tray Truck: Key Features Reliable My family actually
had the chance to work with the Hino Dutro 616 before, and all I can say is that it is truly a reliable
tray truck. What powers it is a 4.0 litre intercooled turbo diesel engine that can produce up to 150
horsepower. It also integrates a 5 speed manual transmission that makes the rig easy to maneuver and
drive around town. Robust body Apart from the excellent power, the Dutro 616 boasts its robust body
as well. Measuring 4,530 mm long and 2,300 mm wide, its steel tray body is ROPS certified and can
handle almost all ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
If you will ask me, what I like about it is its dependability. For such a light duty tray truck, it still has
the strength to carry your building materials and deliver them to your customers locations safely and
on time. Another thing that I like about it is the fact that it is budget friendly. Imagine, for only around
$26,355 AUD, you can already have a ergonomically designed rig that can serve as your partner on
the highway. Summing up, this Dutro 616 is a smart pick and a vehicle that is worthy of your

The Flood in The Epic of Gilgamish and The Bible
The story of the great flood is probably the most popular story that has survived for thousands of years
and is still being retold today. It is most commonly related within the context of Judeo Christian
tradition. In the Holy Bible, the book of Genesis uses the flood as a symbol of God s wrath as well as
His hope that the human race can maintain peace and achieve everlasting salvation. The tale of Noah s
Ark begins with God s expression of dismay as to the degenerate state of the human race at the time.
People were behaving wickedly and sinfully and God decided that a genetic cleansing was necessary.
He spared only Noah and his family, along with two of every type of animal; one ... Show more

Other similarities consist of the following criteria found in the two stories: The Gods (or God) knew of
one righteous man, Utnapishtim or Noah. The Gods (or God) ordered the hero s to build a multi story
wooden ark. Both of the hero s, in the stories, initially complained about their assignment to build the
boat. The ark would be sealed with pitch, and have many internal compartments. It would have a
single door, and at least one window. The ark was built and loaded with the hero, a few other humans,
and samples from all species of other land animals. A great rain came pouring down, covering the land
with water. The hero s sent out birds at regular intervals to find if any dry land was in the vicinity. The
first two birds returned to the ark. The third bird apparently found dry land because it did not return.
The hero s and their families left the ark, ritually killed an animal, and offered it as a sacrifice. God (or
the gods in the Epic of Gilgamish) smelled the roasted meat of the sacrifice. The hero s were blessed.
The Babylonian gods seemed genuinely sorry for the genocide that they had created. The God of Noah
appears to have regretted his actions as well, because he promised never to do it again.
As much as there were similarities, there were also a number of differences between the two stories.
For instance, Noah received his

Student Characters InA Palace Thief, By Ethan Canin
Within the text A Palace Thief by Ethan Canin, Hundert, a history teacher in St. Benedict s, believes
that he will mold his students characters. He then meets Sedgewick Bell, a student who influences his
code of morals.
A major ideology that Hundert believes in is that with the assistance of history, he will develop good
character and high ideals in the minds of his students. He believes that with these characteristics his
students would become great men in the future. In the text when Hundert is asked by Senator Bell
what is the benefit of teaching his students history, Hundert replies saying, When they read the reign
of Augustus Caesar... advances lead mankind away from the brutish rivalries... into the two centuries
of Pax Romana, then they understand the importance of character and high ideals. It is important to
note how Hundert is able to say this statement without hesitation and declares that he is well prepared.
This statement contributes to the idea of Hundert s commitment of using great men of history to mold
such qualities into his students. Hundert believes that he should mold such characteristics into the
minds of his students because he was mindful of the the role the ...students would eventually play in
the affairs of our country. , As stated before, Hundert teaches at an elite private school and he had
taught the sons of nineteen senators, during his time there. As he was teaching the offspring of
influential people this, would influence his idea

Essay On Social Media And Technology
In recent discussions of technology, a controversial issue whether the social media provide a net good
for the society has raised wide concern. Social media, as a kind of new technology, has developed so
fast and affected our society in various aspects, such as the way of communication and self
assessment. On the one hand, some argue that social media is good for the society because it makes
our life more convenient and provide us a new way to know the world. That is true to some extent. For
example, we can see our families or friends who are far from us via social media, such as Facebook.
From this perspective, social media is good for the society because it helps us keep the relationship
with others, especially people with the long distance. Also, there is much fresh news and information
related to different fields on social media. People can get much new information from the feed on
social media. On the other hand, however, others argue that social media is influencing people
negatively. There is an increasing number of individuals, especially the younger generation, being
addicted to social media. One of this view s main proponents argues, technology addiction is labeled,
when the use is beyond the control and causing harm or impairment. This is a serious problem so we
have to think about the solutions to it. According to this view, people s health, especially the mental
health is under threat. People who are addicted to technology have to check their social media

The Book of Hosea is one among the several books of the Hebrew scripture and appears as the first in
the order of the twelve Minor Prophets. The term minor refers to the length and not the importance of
the books when compared to the books of Ezekiel, Isaiah and Jeremiah. All the twelve minor books
are Hosea, Joel, Amos, Obadiah, Jonah, Micah, Nahum, Habakkuk, Zephaniah, Zechariah, Haggai
Malachi (Feinberg, 1990). Hosea was instructed by God to marry a prostitute, by the name of Gomer,
who symbolized covenantal relationship between Israel and him (God). Hosea s prophesies were
unique in the sense that they were relayed through the names given to his children. This paper seeks to

In the book of Exodus chapter 6 verses 6 8, God had promised that he would rescue Israel from the
Egyptians and give them the Promised Land (Canaan), show mercy by saving them with an

Hosea the man. Little information is given about the prophet. According to Mays (1969) the name
Hosea appears only in the title of the book and the heading for the narrative in chapter one and is not
mentioned anywhere again in the book (Mays, p. 1), while according to Hallman Dictionary (1991),
the name Hosea only appears at Hosea chapter 1 verses 1 2 and at Romans chapter 9 verse 25 in the
Bible. There is no information about where he was born, what he did before becoming a prophet, or
when and how he was called to be a prophet. He certainly became a prophet at the marriageable age
because that is when the message of God came to him (Mays, p. 2). From the first verse, we are able
to know his father s name; Beeri and no other information about him. The name Hosea means
salvation. Hosea is identified as a prophet in Hosea 1 verse1 and a genuine one for that matter, the
word of the Lord came to him and the source of his authority was God.

My Leadership Philosophy
With regards to leadership, my strength lies in my desire to help everyone. A leader has to put the
group first and make every decision with that principle in mind. When freshman approach me in the
hallway, eyes wide with terror and uncertainty, I stop and ask them what they need. If the track team
needs and extra runner for a race, even if I despise that race, I ll step up. My philosophy is to lead by
example, not by command. I ve found that simply telling people what to do is the most ineffective
way to actually get them to do it. For example, I am very passionate about track and want the track
team to do extremely well at state this year. Instead of giving a rousing speech about courage and
strength, I started training months in advance. By making myself better, I encourage others to be better
too. I m not the best on the team by a longshot, but by working hard I inspire others to be better than
me. My goal by the end of track season is not to be the best on the team, but for the rest of the team to
be better because of me. By doing that extra lap I hope to inspire others to do the same. ... Show more

Taking that final step and trusting that your decision is correct scares me. What if everyone suffers
because I m wrong? To overcome this, the only thing I can do is to take the leap. I will fail, and I have
failed many times already, but I ve also made the correct choices. By practicing failure, I m mastering
success. Another weakness of mine is the notion that my idea is always a good one. This sometimes
leads me to believe that, in a group project or something of the sort, we should always use my idea. In
a recent group project I took complete control without even realizing it. When I did realize it, I told
the group that I was sorry and stepped down in order to let everyone s ideas flow too. Instantly the
project became

Science And The Art Of Science
A couple of years ago my daughter, who will graduate with a degree in biology from UC Santa Cruz
this June, shared a pivotal quote with me. The quote, by nature philosopher Vladimir Nabokov, states,
There is a high ridge where the mountainside of scientific knowledge joins the opposite slope of
artistic imagination; where precision of poetry and the art of science can meet. She said it reminded
her of all the years she watched me with my students, exploring and healing wild places. This was,
and is, one of the most profound compliments I have ever received. There is a multitude of ways to
approach teaching students about our Earth, some technical, some artistic, some spiritual, but to effect
lasting change, one has to touch on all three. Throughout my 23 years as an environmental educator, I
have often said my true goal is to guide students toward a love and desire to protect our planet and
each other the science they learn is a happy side effect. But side effects can have lasting effects, and
make no mistake the science is critical. Hooking students emotionally, though, opens their minds to
the science, to a desire to know the world around them, to a willingness to absorb the science because
it explains what they love. As educators, volunteers, and docents, our challenge is to create that high
ridge for students, to teach natural history in an imaginative, artistic way one that presents science as a
form of poetry from the heart. It is hard to ignore the cries

Utilizing Psychotherapy and Pharmacotherapy to Treat Symptoms of Post Traumatic Stress Disorder
The survival status of burn victims is increasing and although this is an achievement for the medical
field, it means that many burn victims are left dealing with psychiatric issues such as stress,
depression, anxiety and posttraumatic stress disorder (PTSD) (Willebrand, Anderson Ekeselius, 2004).
PTSD is an anxiety disorder that results from a traumatic event in which the client s life was or
perceived to be threatened (Lonergan, 2014). There are three cardinal categories of signs and
symptoms of PTSD: re experiencing (flashbacks), avoidance/numbing and hyper arousal (American
Psychiatric Association, 2013). A female adult is admitted two months post burn to a mental health
clinic located in the city. Upon further inquiry, the physician diagnoses her with PTSD based on her
reported symptoms, using the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorder (American et al.,
2013). Collaborating with the mental health nurses results in two nursing strategies that are planned
focusing on the current gold standard to treating the symptoms that characterize PTSD. This paper
will outline two evidenced based strategies that a nurse can implement specifically, utilizing
techniques of prolonged exposure (PE) therapy and medication education

To what extent do ways of knowing prevent us from deluding ourselves? Justify your answer with
reference to at least one area of knowledge
Ways of knowing are the core of TOK for us to get knowledge in different Areas of Knowledge. The
two key terms on this essay question are ways of Knowing and deluding ourselves . Ways of knowing
are how we acquire knowledge about the world around us, and figure out our relationship with it . (IB
Diploma Program, 31) Ways of Knowing help us to understand Areas of Knowledge fully. TOK has 8
Ways of Knowing; on this essay I will discuss the three ways: sense perception, emotions, and
reasoning. Deluding ourselves means to mislead the mind or judgment. It means deceiving ourselves.

That fear will cause me to run (Theory of Knowledge). These decisions have to be decided quickly
and they come from our emotions.
The last but not the least is reasons. Reasoning is justification for something. Reasoning follows logic
or the truth. It prevents us from deluding ourselves since when we are reasoning we use evidence to
conclude and we accept the truth whether we like it or not. In order to get knowledge in science we
usually use inductive and deductive arguments. We need to see the past patterns to generalize
knowledge. Unless we generalize and put them as a theory or a law, it is hard to get knowledge from
natural science.
Deductive reasoning uses specific premises to conclude a truth, and if the premises are true, the
conclusion is impossible to be false. For example
All IB students must do TOK and EE
Adam is an IB student
Adam must do TOK and EE (Theory of Knowledge )
Such generalizations help us to come to a specific truth. In natural science, when scientists come up
with a theory, first they will do an experiment and they will look for patterns in order to make
conclusions. For example My grandfather has diabetes, my father has also has diabetes, and I also has
diabetes, so my son will have diabetes problem. Such knowledge is very important in natural science
to give a reliable knowledge through reasoning.
However, to some extent, ways of knowing may delude us from knowing the truth. Ways of knowing
are dependent on each

African Americans in the Reconstruction Era
The Reconstruction era was put into effect by Congress in 1866 and lasted until 1877. Reconstruction
was aimed at reorganizing the Southern states after the Civil War. The reconstruction plan granted the
means for readmitting the southern states into the Union, and tried to come up with the methods by
which whites and blacks could live together in a non slave society. America s position as a country
was established on principles of freedom but those beliefs were weakened by slavery. At the end of the
Civil War, many blacks felt that they were entitled to start collecting the benefits that had been denied
for so many years. Being able to vote, own land and have a voice in political affairs were all goals that

Among other things, this prohibited ex Confederate leaders from holding political office, and also
gave the freedmen their citizenship. The rejection of the 14th Amendment paved the way for the
Reconstruction Act of 1867; this dismantled all Southern governments and launched military control
over the South. The Reconstruction Act guaranteed freedmen the right to vote under new state
constitutions and required the Southern states to approve the 14th A With the addition of African
American votes in the southern elections and the help of Carpet Baggers and Scalawags, the

Throughout this time, the ranking of freedman was significantly increased, and by 1868; many state

Analysis Of The Article The Pelican Brief
The Wetlands In Grisham s novel, The Pelican Brief, he presents a case where an organization
attempts to protect the coastal marshes of Louisiana against the selfish oil companies and citizens that
wish to destroy it for money. This is a tremendous concern that people deal with in America. John
Grisham wrote The Pelican Brief, in 1992 and it was one of his best selling books. Louisiana s
marshes are being destroyed and are suffering greatly because of humans. Grisham shows extensive
knowledge of the wetlands as well as the wildlife through discussing the endangered Brown Pelican
and how humans have brought it to the brink of extinction. Numberless amounts of waterfowl, birds,
and countless species that call Louisiana home are now being terrorized thanks to non native species,
humans and a numerous amount of different causes. The Brown Pelican, Louisiana s state bird, has
been endangered until 1995, and about half of all the geese in North America spend the winter in the
coastal marshes (Elliott, Charles). Additionally, Louisiana is the leading state for the number of
wintering ducks (¨SGP¨). The marshes are extremely important to the fowl that live there year round
and for the ones that do not. The Bobwhite Quail, that live there year round, have suffered huge losses
to their population. From 1966 they have declined 75%, primarily due to habitat degradation (¨SGP¨).
One of the reasons populations of fowl have been going down is the result of invasive species. The

while assessing the patient stolerance for structure.Immediate goals must beinterruption of the binge
and purge cycle, restoration of normaleating behavior, and stabilization of body weight, even if
already overweight. Attemptsat dietary exacerbatebinge purge behavior.Metabolic state must be
considered when prescribing thebaseline diet.Assessment ofclinical signs of ahypometabolic state, like
a low T3 level and cold intolerance, is useful in determining the caloric prescription. If a low
metabolismis suspected, a caloric prescription of 1600 to 1800calories daily is a reasonable startbut
this prescriptionshould be titrated upwards, in 100 to 200 calorie increments,to stimulate the metabolic
rate. Ultimately, a weightmaintenance diet of 2200 to 2400 kcal/day is attainable and welltolerated
(Halmi, 2005). Body weight should be monitored with a goal of stabilization;however, BN patients
need a great deal of encouragement to followweight maintenance versus weight loss diets. They must
bereminded that attempts to restrict caloric intake may only increasethe risk of binge eating.A
balanced macronutrient intake is essential for the provisionof a regular meal pattern. This should
include sufficientcarbohydrates to prevent craving and adequate protein and fatto promote satiety. In
general, a balanced diet providing 50% to55% of the calories from carbohydrate, 15% to 20% from

Tim Tebow Religious Beliefs
Tim Tebow, Colin Kaepernick, and Kurt Warner are popular outspoken athletes who express their
personal beliefs on the field. Some fans love these athletes expressing their beliefs on the field, but
some of their outspoken beliefs are a distraction. Their expression of beliefs have led to more athletes
making their personal beliefs known, but not every athlete s personal belief on the field are about
religion. The outspoken beliefs of athletes should be banned from professional sports if sports fans
believe it is such a problem, but when they do that they should discourage athletes from having any
sort of tattoo on them. Professional athletes sharing their personal and religious beliefs on the field,
should not be outlawed by sports coaches to express themselves with their personal belief that include
religious tattoos on the field, because professional athletes sharing their personal and religious beliefs
on the field distract fans from the game. One of these popular athletes is Tim Tebow, acknowledged by
many as the greatest player in the history of college football. Tebow went onto play in the National
Football League for the Denver Broncos and New York Jets and his popularity provided a platform
that he used became expression for his faith. After being traded by the Denver Broncos in 2012, his
number fifteen has become the league s highest selling jersey. After the Denver Broncos traded Tebow

Bench Press is one of the three work outs we will be discussing in the manual. Out of the three work
outs covered in this manual (performed at the PSU Abington gym) bench press, deadlift, and squat
bench press is the hardest to fully master. This work out will test upper body strength and power.
There are benefits from mastering or trying to master bench press: Bench press helps the upper body
gain muscle and get stronger. Finding a technique that works the best can make benching much easier
for the lifter. People who bench press with the wrong technique will lead to injuries. Injuries can take
time to heal, some people might take up to one week to heal. With the right instructions and technique
there will be no major injuries while ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Some reasons why injuries occur is because of poor positioning and poor training.
Some quick tips:
Improve bench press technique
Fix posture
Balance muscle
Neck: Make sure lower back and neck are supported properly. Avoid exercises that require arms to go
above the head. Strengthen upper back and improve posture when working out. Make sure to stop any
exercises that causes pain in the neck. Take frequent breaks when this happens and stretch frequently.
Some quick tips:
Stretch neck
Do not raise arms above head
Strengthen muscle around shoulder blade
Instructions for performing a Bench Press
While it is true that it is a great exercise, the bench press isn t the best choice for many lifters and,
unfortunately, the majority don t know how to actually perform it correctly (Smith). Some people do
not know how to bench press correctly. When it is done wrong then there will be serious injuries.
IMPORTANT: Always have a spotter when doing bench press. A spotter is someone who stands
behind and watches the person bench. They also make sure that the person is able to lift that much
amount of weight and if the person cannot lift that amount of weight then the spotter will help the
person. The spotter is there to make sure the person on the bench does not get stuck or fails to finish.
These instructions will help people fully understand how to bench press

Small Open Economy Dynamic Stochastic General Equilibrium...
In this paper we present a variant of the Small Open Economy Dynamic Stochastic General
Equilibrium Model (SOE DSGE) and empirically validate it using quarterly data for Sri Lanka
(1999Q1 2013Q4). The SOE DSGE model incorporates low exchange rate pass through dynamics and
thereby departs in a significant manner from the canonical closed economy New Keynesian DSGE
model which has become the work horse of monetary policy design by modern central banks. The
empirical validation of the SOE DSGE model in the paper using Bayesian estimation techniques
provides insights that would enable the Central Bank of Sri Lanka to advance its reform agenda to
transition from the current monetary targeting framework to a flexible inflation targeting framework in
the medium term.
The model presented herein can be extended evaluate the welfare implications of alternative monetary
policy regimes and make out of sample inflation forecasts to get a handle on the type of policy
adjustments that should be undertaken to design a monetary policy stance to achieve a predetermined
stabilization target.

Song Of Solomon By Toni Morrison
Reyes Luna 1 Song of Solomon Toni Morrison L.A.P. Topic #2 Bairon Reyes Luna Mr. Amoroso Pd.
3 A.P. Literature 10/05/17 Reyes Luna 2 The freedom that awaits in the breezes of the air lures the
appetent soul. It propels many to leap despite the uncertainty of having wings, hopeful that the gusts
of wind would suffice and carry the weight of their lives. An infatuation with the wonders of flight as
a form of escape, is frequently juxtaposed with the desire to fight, choosing confrontation by
remaining on the ground and facing the problems at hand. However, this fight or flight response, as it
has been coined, has become an oversimplification of the way humans react in the face of adversity. It
fails to recognize that paradoxically, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Mr. Smith had seen the rose petals, heard the music, and leaped on into the air Reyes Luna 3
(Morrison 9). He had lived and seen the true colors of the world, heard the voices of those who spoke
and had rejected it, the same way they all had rejected him...and chose flight instead. While bystanders
stood silent and in disbelief, a character is introduced by drawing a parallel with her personality to her
social interactions. Choosing to break the stillness of the happening with song. O Sugarman done fly
away, Sugarman done gone, Sugarman cut across the sky, Sugarman gone home... (Morrison 6). Truly
Mr. Robert had in a distorted way accomplished something, he had gained one way ticket back home.
Paradoxically, the end of his life marked the beginning of a new, as if by design, it was the same day
as Milkman s birth...the last character to take flight. The first manifestation of the metaphor of flight
was as a means of escape from life itself. Arguably, Mr. Smith had given up on the world and felt that
there was only one solution for all his problems, to fly away from them all. However, this merely
showcases the cliché definition of what it means to fly. The next case comes into fruition in the
character of Pilate, who introduces a new elucidation to the metaphor. From the distinctive undertones
that arise from the name alone, Pilate proves to be a character of her own caliber. Different from the

Giuseppe Verdi s Cultural Beliefs
When Giuseppe Verdi died on 27 January 1901, Italy wept as one. Almost two hundred fifty thousand
people took to the streets to pay their respects to Giuseppe Verdi. They were marching to the Va,
Pensiero from Nabucco, sung by a chorus of over 820 voices, led by maestro Arturo Toscani.
Considering his cultural status in Italy and Europe at the time of his death, the funeral was attended by
dignitaries from all over Europe. Verdi was a man of determined anti clerical spirit; he was a liberal
and a romantic. He was a proud and patriotic man; however, his musical intentions seem to differ from
the contrived tales and political persuasions of the supporters of the Risorgimento. Verdi was not
preoccupied by historical methodology or by making overarching

Questions On The Mediation Resolution
Reporting and Responding
My first assessable item of Dispute Resolution was to conduct a mock facilitative mediation role play.
Mediation is as a self determinative and typically voluntary process which encourages disputing
parties to negotiate, with the support of a mediator, based upon conflicting interests. The ultimate
function of mediation is to gain a mutually agreeable outcome. Facilitative, as opposed to advisory, or
evaluative, mediation is a self determinative dispute resolution process which encourages
involvement.
In a practice role play of this model, which was carried out one week prior to the assessment due date,
the composition of groups were assigned. My group consisted of two mediators, James Musgrave and
Jake Lengui, and two parties which were allocated to Lauren Bicknell and myself.
The scenario was uniform for all groups in my tutorial, revolving around a conflict of interest between
Sam and Pat. Sam, who was a violinist with the Queensland Symphony Orchestra, and Pat, who had a
full time job as a writer, were neighbours who rented an apartment a conflict subsequently developed
over noise. Both parties in this scenario require uninterrupted work on their respective jobs, with Pat
working against the clock to finish his latest manuscript and Sam practicing for an important
upcoming concert. Lauren and I agreed that I was to play the role of Sam, and she was to play the role
of Pat.

Hours after the incident Mr.Bull was filling out a police report on what he had witnessed. The police

The most significant words are bravery and courage but for Joe to overcome his fear and fight the
bigger man was an act of courage ( Spunk ). The author is explaining the theme of bravery from that

knows carries and handgun with him and is not afraid to use it in these kinds of situations. When
Spunk is explaining the scene to everyone in the room He sneaked up an tried to kill me from the

The And Public Health Policies
For years, it has been assumed by the vast majority of health care experts that everyone knows the
guiding principle of ethics in healthcare. Everyone agrees that this guiding principle has the solid
endorsement of the majority of the population. These presumptions are accepted with almost no
contention or debate. In Justice in Medicine and Public Health, Rosamund Rhodes argues that no
single conception of justice explains the array of broadly endorsed medical and public health policies.
This thought challenges the classical approach of defining or defending one accurate view of justice in
medicine. There are many different views of justice in health care that have been developed and
debated. However, it is clear that no one view of the distribution of the scarce resources and services
fits every situation. Aristotle defined justice as giving each his due. While this thought has its fans,
others prefer a more idealistic view of justice in the field of health care. One of these philosophies,
utilitarianism, defines justice as policies and procedures that produce the best outcomes. During times
of emergency, it is acceptable for health professionals to practice triage medicine. The practice of
triage medicine represents the goal of avoiding the worst outcomes and not the utilitarian view of the
best possible outcome. Furthermore, the aim of public health research is to collect information that
may or may not be useful. The quest to gather information also appears to

In this case analysis, the BTK killer also known as Dennis Rader was convicted with 10 counts of first
degree murder in Wichita, Kansas. He committed those crimes between 1974 and 1991. The acronym
BTK stands for blind, torture, and kill. Soon after each incident, he sent anonymous letters to the
police and taunting them by offering knowledge of the killings. Dennis Rader was reported to have
tortured a Puerto Rican family, the Oteros in their home (Vigliotti, 2015). In court, he testified that

Liberal Education isn t focused on the political aspect of liberalism, however focuses on liberating its
students by giving students space to explore their passions deeply. This exploration cannot happen in
an education program that is built off of individualism and its exclusivity must constantly be
challenged. As Cronon states, We should remember the powerful class and gender biases that were
built into this vision of freedom. The free man who studied the Liberal Arts were male aristocrats;
these specialized bodies of knowledge were status markers that set them apart from unfree serfs and
peasants, as well as from the members of other vulgar and ignoble classes. Our modern sense of
Liberal Education has expanded from this medieval foundation to include a greater range of human
talents and a much more inclusive number of human beings, holding out at least the dream that
everyone might someday be liberated by an education that stands in the service of human freedom
(Olejarz, 2017). Liberal Education isn t about mastering a particular subject. Instead Liberal Education
is about mastering positive characteristics that foster a deeper sense of personal identity and cultivate
human freedom. When the debate between STEM and Liberal Education arise the underlying
impression of those that support segregating the importance of these two focuses challenge that

Practical Considerations
Practical Considerations Examining the practicality of the group parameters is paramount to
delivering the most effective treatment possible. 1. The counseling group is a closed group, as the
formation of bonds, trust, and process of the shared experience is more vulnerable to being disrupted

Advantages of Grazing Cattle on Public Lands
Grazing cattle on public lands can have many advantages. Monetary gain is a large reason why lands
are utilized (Council for Agricultural Science, Livestock Grazing on Federal Land). However grazing
may be used as a tool for managing rangelands. Grazing could have possibly been the first form of
rangeland management other than fire (Frost, Prescription Grazing). With this method, weeds and
other undesirable vegetation were targeted to reduce numbers. However, if prescribed incorrectly it
could lead to poor conditions for other organisms living in that environment (Frost, Prescription
Grazing). Recently there has been a push toward research for the protection of the sage grouse. In this
paper we will explore the effects of rangeland grazing and rangeland treatments on the sage grouse
and its habitat.
The sage grouse, as the name may imply, has a large reliance on the sagebrush. Sage grouse need large
areas of sagebrush for cover, feed, and nesting (Patterson, Sage in Wyoming). A study in 1998 on sage
grouse nests found higher concentrations of successful sage grouse nests that were located in
undisturbed sagebrush sample areas that had thick brush cover and taller canopies (Sveum, Nesting
Habitat Selection). In the summer, sage grouse require a variety of components to survive. The bird
uses the sagebrush for cover though they also need open area with grasses and forbs for insect feed for
their offspring and for mating (Dunn, Adult Female and Juvenile).

however, suggest that the film does not tell a totally accurate version of what happened in this key

Notes On Machine Learning And The Development Of Computer...
Chapter 2: INTRODUCTION TO MACHINE LEARNING
2.1 Definition
Learning like intelligence, covers a wide range of processes that it is challenging to define accurately.
Regarding machines, we might define, very broadly, that a machine learns whenever it changes its
structure, program, or data (based on its inputs or in response to external information) in such a
manner that its expected future performance improves [5]. Machine learning is a type of artificial
intelligence (AI) that equips computers with the ability to learn without being explicitly programmed.
Machine learning focuses on the development of computer programs that can teach themselves to
grow and change when exposed to new data.
The process of machine learning is analogous to data mining. Both systems explore through data to
look for patterns. However, machine learning uses that data to detect patterns in data and adjust
program actions accordingly. Currently, machine learning is more advanced from pattern recognition
to theory that computers can learn without being programmed to perform specific tasks.
The iterative aspect of machine learning is important because as models are exposed to new data, they
are able to independently adapt. They learn from previous computations to produce reliable,
repeatable decisions and results. [6]
Robot learning is a research field at the intersection of machine learning and robotics. It studies
techniques allowing a robot to acquire unique skills or adapt to its environment

Analysis Of Vladimir Nabokov s Short Stories
Abstract
Vladimir Nabokov s short stories featured are Signs and Symbols, Bachmann and Terra Incognita.
Signs and Symbols focuses on a young boy institutionalized with a morbid paranoia of the outside
world and the impact this has on his elderly parents. Bachmann is about a genius composer whose
only source of affection is of Madame Perov, whose infatuation is seen in her constant attendance of
his piano recitals. Terra Incognito s main character Valliére and his companions are losing their minds
and lives to strange hallucigenic fever in a remote country in the fictional country of Zonraki. Strong
aspects of all three short stories focus on the alienation of each of the protagonists and the cause of
this, either due to madness, great creativity or delusion. This link is forged between the three, which
would have not been as obvious. To attempt to show this association, the following question arose,
which is:
The alienated person is out of touch with himself as he is out of touch with any person. (Erich Fromm,
1955) How does Nabokov convey alienation of characters well in the short stories Signs and Symbols,
Bachmann and Terra Incognita?
The three short stories, Signs and Symbols, Bachmann and Terra Incognita are going to be examined.
Nabokov is interested in people who are forcefully marginalized by society due to their imaginations.
He depicts them using a number of writer s tools such as the conflict between characters, the opinions
of secondary characters,

Comparison Of Townie By Andre Dubus
In Townie: A Memoir by Andre Dubus III, the unfortunate trials and tribulations of a violent and
poverty stricken childhood is described. With the strain of divorced parents and frequent moves,
Dubus vividly describes his experiences of exposure to various environments of drugs, bullies, and
sex. Like his father, Dubus embraces a passion for creative writing as a form of therapy. The gravity of
Dubus s childhood was vital to his growth because of its often fight afflicted and fatherless times.
Bullies and bad boys provoked fear within Dubus, but they also tempted him to watch fights. He
dodged the ring when he could, but was defeated when he was powerless. He despised himself in both
instances, thus making him feel insecure and irrelevant, There was the non feeling that I had no body,
that I had no name, no past and no future, that I simply was not. I was not here (78). Dubus felt
severely insignificant, until ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The impact his father made was more profound in his absence than in his presence. The wrath that
Dubus released through his fists, ...were his only way to get out what was inside him (191). He
literally fought to not only relieve himself of his childhood burdens, but also from the frustration and
disappointment in his father. In taking on the role of protector, Dubus fulfilled the expectation of his
father, by protecting himself and others, Like pus from a wound, it was how he expressed what had to
be expressed (191). Dubus found a more productive relief by expressing himself through creative
writing. He revered the works of his father and was inspired by them. Dubus was able to redirect his
focus on school so successfully, because of the discipline he acquired from strength training and
boxing. He became more internal, self aware, and enlightened. The difficult experiences of Dubus s
childhood cultivated him into the adult and writer that he is

Essay about changing self, context in song lyrics
Text title: Change You Or Change Me
Source/ Date:
Medium: Rap song
Composer: Fabolous
Purpose: The main purpose of the text is indeed to entertain the listener in any way possible whether it
be enjoying fab s witty punch lines or being able to relate to the issues present. Another purpose
suggested is to relate with the composer (Fabolous) and gain knowledge of the occurrences
experienced by the composer e/g racism or incidents in the area . Fabolous says I want to bring you in,
and let you see my world looking through my eyes.
Intended Audience: Many features in the text suggest that the intended audience are; Other African
Americans as he uses the term nigger which is generally used when talking to other African
Americans. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In verse 2 fab questions change and again suggests that there has been change. An outward change.
The environment and circumstances have changed but inside (soul), self is still the same. Changes are
taking place but he is not letting it have an affect on him. When fab says to remind me where I m from
I look at my own tooth I feel he is referring to his family roots and history which he is aware of.
Verse, the final verse sees a change in attitude. Fab becomes more aggressive towards the feeling of
changing self he says It s getting me sick, someone prescribe me some medicine ,fab wants to revert to
the past, he wants to reverse the change that is surrounding him.
The final chorus, full of coarse language suggests the message of take me for what I am as he states I
am still the same nigger man .
Techniques used to represent ideas: Language language is used to represent the idea of aggression as
fabulous uses profanities particularly towards the end of the text.
Rhetorical questions are used to question the listener further involving them e/g why would I change?
.
Similes are used to give the listener a greater understanding or image of a point e/g When I get green
like the incredible hulk? which represents jealousy and power.
The technique of a monologue is used. It tells us more about Fubolous. It makes fabulous seem more
like an authority figure with his opinion more prominent
Other features include medaphores, use of rhyme,

Parallel Experiences of Three Troubled Women in Cunningham s, The Hours
According to Chronicles magazine, Woolf was undeniably a brilliant writer. Woolf s work of Mrs.
Dalloway was read by fifteen year old Michael Cunningham in order to impress an older girl in
school. As he stated, the book really knocked me out. Once older, Cunningham wanted to write about
Mrs. Dalloway, but thought not too many people would want to read a book about reading a book. He
then thought he might want to read a book about reading the right book. Hence, The Hours was
written. Cunningham would incorporate Mrs. Dalloway into a book about reading a book. The Hours
weaves through three woman s lives. As the novel unfolds, it shows that these three women ... Show

The final narrative deals with Clarissa Vaughn. Clarissa lives in a Manhattan apartment in the 1990s
with her 19 year old daughter and lesbian lover. She is overwhelmed with planning a party for a local
poet whom she is the publisher. The local poet, Richard, once had a relationship with Clarissa, but is
now a dying homosexual with AIDS.
When I look up the meaning of metaphors in Webster it says a figure of speech in which a work for
one idea or thing is used in place of another to suggest a likeness between them. The Hours by
Michael Cunningham is enriched with many complex metaphors. While intertwining three different
woman s lives, Cunningham uses a wide range of metaphors to help mean something in one story and
tie into the next woman s story. Using deconstructive interpretation to investigate these strategically
placed metaphors can be difficult and exciting, yet challenging.
The flow of the novel starts as Woolf finds the opening line of her new novel: Mrs. Dalloway decided
she would buy the flowers herself. The flowers would proof an important metaphor in the book. This
thought of buying the flowers herself would link Woolf and Clarissa. Clarissa states the same words to
her lover in preparing for Richard s party. And yet the flowers would reappear in Laura Browns life as
her husband buys flowers for his own birthday. Flowers that normally represent life and color
ironically represent sadness and loneliness in this novel.

The Strange Case Of Dr. Jekyll And Mr Hyde
The Strange Case of Dr Banner and Hulk
Reinterpretations have played a major role in all forms of entertainment. They provide another, unique
perspective on something old, something you may have read or seen. They make it possible to relive,
or re experience something that you cherished, or they can enable you to love something you hated.
Reinterpretations have a lot of artistic power, as can be seen in a review of The Strange Case of Dr
Jekyll and Mr Hyde, written by Robert Louis Stevenson, compared to The Incredible Hulk, directed
by Louis Leterrier. The value of reinterpretations can be explored through the use of these two texts by
looking at the theme of duplicity in man, and analysing the characters Bruce Banner and Dr Jekyll.
Dr ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
As time progresses Mr Hyde dominates his alter ego, Dr Jekyll, until only Mr Hyde remains.
The plot of The incredible Hulk seems to be somewhat reversed. The movie begins with a similar
experiment, but the progression of the characters is opposite. Bruce Banner learns to control the Hulk
over time, whereas Dr Jekyll loses his control over Mr Hyde. Although the movie starts off with a
similar experiment, the experiment is performed on Dr Banner (Dr Jekyll) by General Ross rather than
Dr Banner performing it on his own impulse as Dr Jekyll did. The experiment prompts the initial
transformation, which leaves Dr Banner in the form of the Hulk (Mr Hyde). However, the movie
removes the potion element of Dr Jekyll and Mr Hyde and instantly begins with the involuntary
transformations. Similar to Dr Jekyll s transformation from socialite to social recluse, Bruce Banner
goes into hiding where he learns how to somewhat control his newfound condition through
meditation. This event is similar to Dr Jekyll s partial recovery when he stops taking the potion and
becomes more sociable again.
Some major plot changes have been implemented in the reinterpretation, yet the character of Dr
Banner remains very similar to the character of Dr Jekyll. Some differences do exist, however, and
they do have an effect on the invited reading. For example, Dr Banner is motivated by love to learn to
control his conditions, whereas Dr Jekyll transforms willingly to explore

The Theme OfThe Death Of Ivan Ilyich By Leo Tolstoy
True Happiness
The Death of Ivan Ilyich by Leo Tolstoy reveals the harsh reality of many members of the upper class
society. Ivan, a man that seems to have a perfect life, is a prime example of how climbing economic
and social ladders does not guarantee one s happiness. Ivan has a lucrative career, a nice house, and a
seemingly happy family. What more can he ask for, right? Contrary to widespread belief, Ivan is a
very unhappy man. He spends most of his time in his office, working, to keep his distance from his
family primarily from his demanding wife. Ivan is later struck ill after an accident that he thought was
only minor. As Ivan come to face the reality that he is indeed dying, he reflects on his life. Upon his
reflection, Ivan realizes that he has not lived the happiest life. Ivan s life manifests the reality of the
aristocratic type, who are often materialistic, shallow, self centered, and lacking in empathy and
compassion.
Ivan, like many others in his ranking are known for their crass materialism. As stated in the text,
having received money from his father for his equipment Ivan Ilyich ordered himself clothes at
Scharmer s, the fashionable tailor, hung a medallion inscribed respice finem on his watch chain, took
leave of his professor and the prince who was patron of the school (Tolstoy 747). Ivan is fixated on
impressing others with his fancy and expensive clothing. He also lives in a typical home like other
people of his status. Ivan lives his life to others

Reliability And Validity Of Hand
Reliability and Validity of Hand held Bio Impedance in Detecting Body Fat Loss Dan Dychtwald
Introduction Problem: Body fat measurements are traditionally used during weight loss interventions
to ensure individuals are losing body fat and not muscle. While tests such as dual energy X ray
absorptiometry (DXA) and hydrostatic immersion are the gold standard for measuring body fat, both
are expensive and have limited accessibility.1 Additionally, devices such as calipers may be obtrusive
and ineffective for some, especially those morbidly obese. Bioelectrical impedance (BIA) has also
been used in weight loss settings, but some devices are expensive and require multiple points of
contact with the individual. However, a hand held option is also available that is inexpensive, easy to
use, and much less invasive. Purpose of the Study: To determine the inter rater reliability and validity
(via sensitivity) of a hand held bio impendence (Omron HBF306C) device in measuring body fat
among a group of overweight individuals (BMI 25 kg/m2)2 enrolled in a weight loss program.
Research Questions/Hypotheses: The handheld BIA device used in this study is hypothesized to have:
1. An inter rater reliability/reproducibility ICC close to other forms of body fat measurement used in
the field of dietetics (.93 .99)3 2. To reliably measure body fat and detect body fat losses in
conjunction with weight loss Study Design: The inter rater reliability of a hand held BIA device is
being investigated

Euclidean median or median center is the location which minimizes/reduces the sum of Euclidean
distances from all other points present in a spatial distribution to that central point. Mathematically
this locations minimizes/reduces the sum and is calculated by Pythagorean Theorem. Most important
use of Euclidean median in Geography are public and private facility location. In facility location the
main goal is to reduce the average distance travelled per person to reach a designated facility.
Euclidean median is actually the location which reduces/minimizes your transportation costs.
Question: 5 what is the utility of geocoding? Using examples, what can you do with geocoded data?
Answer: Geocoding is not only a science but also an art.In this process we assign locations to
addresses, so that on a map these can be placed as points and analyzed with other data. So what is
done is that Geographic coordinates are assigned to original data, hence the term Geocoding. 1.
Geocoded data is used for analysis of address data in which address locations are displaced and
patterns are recognized with this

  • 2. St. Valentines Day Massacre Of Chicago Essay From 1924 to 1930, the city of Chicago gained a widespread reputation for lawlessness and violence. Not coincidentally, this phenomenon coincided with the reign of chief crime lord Al Scarface Capone, who took over from his boss Johnny Torrio in 1925. (Torrio, who was seriously wounded in an assassination attempt in 1924, had retired to Brooklyn.) Prohibition, ushered in by the passage of the 18th Amendment in 1920, had greatly increased the earnings of America s gangsters through bootlegging (the illegal manufacture and sale of alcohol) and speakeasies (illicit drinking establishments), as well as gambling and prostitution. Capone s income from these activities was estimated at some $60 million a year; his net worth in 1927 was around ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Chicago s gang war reached its bloody climax in the so called St. Valentine s Day Massacre of 1929. One of Capone s longtime enemies, the Irish gangster George Bugs Moran, ran his bootlegging operations out of a garage on the North Side of Chicago. On February 14, seven members of Moran s operation were gunned down while standing lined up, facing the wall of the garage. Some 70 rounds of ammunition were fired. When police officers from Chicago s 36th District arrived, they found one gang member, Frank Gusenberg, barely alive. In the few minutes before he died, they pressed him to reveal what had happened, but Gusenberg wouldn t talk.Police could find only a few eyewitnesses, but eventually concluded that gunmen dressed as police officers had entered the garage and pretended to be arresting the men. Though Moran and others immediately blamed the massacre on Capone s gang, the famous gangster himself claimed to have been at his home in Florida at the time. No one ... The Flood in The Epic of Gilgamish and The Bible The story of the great flood is probably the most popular story that has survived for thousands of years and is still being retold today. It is most commonly related within the context of Judeo Christian tradition. In the Holy Bible, the book of Genesis uses the flood as a symbol of God s wrath as well as His hope that the human race can maintain peace and achieve everlasting salvation. The tale of Noah s Ark begins with God s expression of dismay as to the degenerate state of the human race at the time. People were behaving wickedly and sinfully and God decided that a genetic cleansing was necessary. He spared only Noah and his family, along with two of every type of animal; one ... The Gods (or God) ordered the hero s to build a multi story wooden ark. Both of the hero s, in the stories, initially complained about their assignment to build the boat. The ark would be sealed with pitch, and have many internal compartments. It would have a single door, and at least one window. The ark was built and loaded with the hero, a few other humans, and samples from all species of other land animals. A great rain came pouring down, covering the land with water. The hero s sent out birds at regular intervals to find if any dry land was in the vicinity. The first two birds returned to the ark. The third bird apparently found dry land because it did not return. The hero s and their families left the ark, ritually killed an animal, and offered it as a sacrifice. God (or the gods in the Epic of Gilgamish) smelled the roasted meat of the sacrifice. The hero s were blessed. The Babylonian gods seemed genuinely sorry for the genocide that they had created. The God of Noah appears to have regretted his actions as well, because he promised never to do it again. Social media, as a kind of new technology, has developed so fast and affected our society in various aspects, such as the way of communication and self assessment. On the one hand, some argue that social media is good for the society because it makes our life more convenient and provide us a new way to know the world. That is true to some extent. For example, we can see our families or friends who are far from us via social media, such as Facebook. From this perspective, social media is good for the society because it helps us keep the relationship with others, especially people with the long distance. Also, there is much fresh news and information related to different fields on social media. People can get much new information from the feed on social media. On the other hand, however, others argue that social media is influencing people negatively. There is an increasing number of individuals, especially the younger generation, being addicted to social media. When freshman approach me in the hallway, eyes wide with terror and uncertainty, I stop and ask them what they need. If the track team needs and extra runner for a race, even if I despise that race, I ll step up. My philosophy is to lead by example, not by command. I ve found that simply telling people what to do is the most ineffective way to actually get them to do it. For example, I am very passionate about track and want the track team to do extremely well at state this year. Instead of giving a rousing speech about courage and strength, I started training months in advance. By making myself better, I encourage others to be better too. I m not the best on the team by a longshot, but by working hard I inspire others to be better than me. • 12. Science And The Art Of Science A couple of years ago my daughter, who will graduate with a degree in biology from UC Santa Cruz this June, shared a pivotal quote with me. The quote, by nature philosopher Vladimir Nabokov, states, There is a high ridge where the mountainside of scientific knowledge joins the opposite slope of artistic imagination; where precision of poetry and the art of science can meet. She said it reminded her of all the years she watched me with my students, exploring and healing wild places. This was, and is, one of the most profound compliments I have ever received. There is a multitude of ways to approach teaching students about our Earth, some technical, some artistic, some spiritual, but to effect lasting change, one has to touch on all three. Throughout my 23 years as an environmental educator, I have often said my true goal is to guide students toward a love and desire to protect our planet and each other the science they learn is a happy side effect. But side effects can have lasting effects, and make no mistake the science is critical. Hooking students emotionally, though, opens their minds to the science, to a desire to know the world around them, to a willingness to absorb the science because it explains what they love. As educators, volunteers, and docents, our challenge is to create that high ridge for students, to teach natural history in an imaginative, artistic way one that presents science as a form of poetry from the heart. In this paper we present a variant of the Small Open Economy Dynamic Stochastic General Equilibrium Model (SOE DSGE) and empirically validate it using quarterly data for Sri Lanka (1999Q1 2013Q4). The SOE DSGE model incorporates low exchange rate pass through dynamics and thereby departs in a significant manner from the canonical closed economy New Keynesian DSGE model which has become the work horse of monetary policy design by modern central banks. The empirical validation of the SOE DSGE model in the paper using Bayesian estimation techniques provides insights that would enable the Central Bank of Sri Lanka to advance its reform agenda to transition from the current monetary targeting framework to a flexible inflation targeting framework in the medium term. Literature 10/05/17 Reyes Luna 2 The freedom that awaits in the breezes of the air lures the appetent soul. It propels many to leap despite the uncertainty of having wings, hopeful that the gusts of wind would suffice and carry the weight of their lives. An infatuation with the wonders of flight as a form of escape, is frequently juxtaposed with the desire to fight, choosing confrontation by remaining on the ground and facing the problems at hand. However, this fight or flight response, as it has been coined, has become an oversimplification of the way humans react in the face of adversity. It fails to recognize that paradoxically, ... He had lived and seen the true colors of the world, heard the voices of those who spoke and had rejected it, the same way they all had rejected him...and chose flight instead. While bystanders stood silent and in disbelief, a character is introduced by drawing a parallel with her personality to her social interactions. Choosing to break the stillness of the happening with song. O Sugarman done fly away, Sugarman done gone, Sugarman cut across the sky, Sugarman gone home... (Morrison 6). Truly Mr. Robert had in a distorted way accomplished something, he had gained one way ticket back home. Paradoxically, the end of his life marked the beginning of a new, as if by design, it was the same day as Milkman s birth...the last character to take flight. The first manifestation of the metaphor of flight was as a means of escape from life itself. Arguably, Mr. Smith had given up on the world and felt that there was only one solution for all his problems, to fly away from them all. However, this merely showcases the cliché definition of what it means to fly. The next case comes into fruition in the character of Pilate, who introduces a new elucidation to the metaphor. From the distinctive undertones that arise from the name alone, Pilate proves to be a character of her own caliber. Different from the rest, Pilate is molded by her ... Almost two hundred fifty thousand people took to the streets to pay their respects to Giuseppe Verdi. They were marching to the Va, Pensiero from Nabucco, sung by a chorus of over 820 voices, led by maestro Arturo Toscani. Considering his cultural status in Italy and Europe at the time of his death, the funeral was attended by dignitaries from all over Europe. Verdi was a man of determined anti clerical spirit; he was a liberal and a romantic. • 30. The And Public Health Policies For years, it has been assumed by the vast majority of health care experts that everyone knows the guiding principle of ethics in healthcare. Everyone agrees that this guiding principle has the solid endorsement of the majority of the population. These presumptions are accepted with almost no contention or debate. In Justice in Medicine and Public Health, Rosamund Rhodes argues that no single conception of justice explains the array of broadly endorsed medical and public health policies. This thought challenges the classical approach of defining or defending one accurate view of justice in medicine. There are many different views of justice in health care that have been developed and debated. However, it is clear that no one view of the distribution of the scarce resources and services fits every situation. Aristotle defined justice as giving each his due. While this thought has its fans, others prefer a more idealistic view of justice in the field of health care. One of these philosophies, utilitarianism, defines justice as policies and procedures that produce the best outcomes. During times of emergency, it is acceptable for health professionals to practice triage medicine. The practice of triage medicine represents the goal of avoiding the worst outcomes and not the utilitarian view of the best possible outcome. Monetary gain is a large reason why lands are utilized (Council for Agricultural Science, Livestock Grazing on Federal Land). However grazing may be used as a tool for managing rangelands. Grazing could have possibly been the first form of rangeland management other than fire (Frost, Prescription Grazing). With this method, weeds and other undesirable vegetation were targeted to reduce numbers. However, if prescribed incorrectly it could lead to poor conditions for other organisms living in that environment (Frost, Prescription Grazing). Recently there has been a push toward research for the protection of the sage grouse. In this paper we will explore the effects of rangeland grazing and rangeland treatments on the sage grouse and its habitat. The sage grouse, as the name may imply, has a large reliance on the sagebrush. Sage grouse need large areas of sagebrush for cover, feed, and nesting (Patterson, Sage in Wyoming). A study in 1998 on sage grouse nests found higher concentrations of successful sage grouse nests that were located in undisturbed sagebrush sample areas that had thick brush cover and taller canopies (Sveum, Nesting Habitat Selection). • 41. Notes On Machine Learning And The Development Of Computer... Chapter 2: INTRODUCTION TO MACHINE LEARNING 2.1 Definition Learning like intelligence, covers a wide range of processes that it is challenging to define accurately. Regarding machines, we might define, very broadly, that a machine learns whenever it changes its structure, program, or data (based on its inputs or in response to external information) in such a manner that its expected future performance improves [5]. Machine learning is a type of artificial intelligence (AI) that equips computers with the ability to learn without being explicitly programmed. Machine learning focuses on the development of computer programs that can teach themselves to grow and change when exposed to new data. The process of machine learning is analogous to data mining. Both systems explore through data to look for patterns. However, machine learning uses that data to detect patterns in data and adjust program actions accordingly. Currently, machine learning is more advanced from pattern recognition to theory that computers can learn without being programmed to perform specific tasks. The iterative aspect of machine learning is important because as models are exposed to new data, they are able to independently adapt. They learn from previous computations to produce reliable, repeatable decisions and results. [6] Robot learning is a research field at the intersection of machine learning and robotics. It studies techniques allowing a robot to acquire unique skills or adapt to its environment ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Signs and Symbols focuses on a young boy institutionalized with a morbid paranoia of the outside world and the impact this has on his elderly parents. Bachmann is about a genius composer whose only source of affection is of Madame Perov, whose infatuation is seen in her constant attendance of his piano recitals. Terra Incognito s main character Valliére and his companions are losing their minds and lives to strange hallucigenic fever in a remote country in the fictional country of Zonraki. Strong aspects of all three short stories focus on the alienation of each of the protagonists and the cause of this, either due to madness, great creativity or delusion. This link is forged between the three, which would have not been as obvious. To attempt to show this association, the following question arose, which is: The alienated person is out of touch with himself as he is out of touch with any person. The environment and circumstances have changed but inside (soul), self is still the same. Changes are taking place but he is not letting it have an affect on him. When fab says to remind me where I m from I look at my own tooth I feel he is referring to his family roots and history which he is aware of. Verse, the final verse sees a change in attitude. Fab becomes more aggressive towards the feeling of changing self he says It s getting me sick, someone prescribe me some medicine ,fab wants to revert to the past, he wants to reverse the change that is surrounding him. The final chorus, full of coarse language suggests the message of take me for what I am as he states I am still the same nigger man . Techniques used to represent ideas: Language language is used to represent the idea of aggression as fabulous uses profanities particularly towards the end of the text. Rhetorical questions are used to question the listener further involving them e/g why would I change? . Similes are used to give the listener a greater understanding or image of a point e/g When I get green like the incredible hulk? which represents jealousy and power. The technique of a monologue is used. It tells us more about Fubolous. It makes fabulous seem more

Parallel Experiences of Three Troubled Women in Cunningham s, The Hours According to Chronicles magazine, Woolf was undeniably a brilliant writer. Woolf s work of Mrs. Dalloway was read by fifteen year old Michael Cunningham in order to impress an older girl in school. As he stated, the book really knocked me out. Once older, Cunningham wanted to write about Mrs. Dalloway, but thought not too many people would want to read a book about reading a book. He then thought he might want to read a book about reading the right book. Hence, The Hours was written. Cunningham would incorporate Mrs. Dalloway into a book about reading a book. The Hours weaves through three woman s lives. As the novel unfolds, it shows that these three women ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The final narrative deals with Clarissa Vaughn. Clarissa lives in a Manhattan apartment in the 1990s with her 19 year old daughter and lesbian lover. She is overwhelmed with planning a party for a local poet whom she is the publisher. The local poet, Richard, once had a relationship with Clarissa, but is now a dying homosexual with AIDS. When I look up the meaning of metaphors in Webster it says a figure of speech in which a work for one idea or thing is used in place of another to suggest a likeness between them. The Hours by Michael Cunningham is enriched with many complex metaphors. While intertwining three different woman s lives, Cunningham uses a wide range of metaphors to help mean something in one story and tie into the next woman s story. Using deconstructive interpretation to investigate these strategically placed metaphors can be difficult and exciting, yet challenging. The flow of the novel starts as Woolf finds the opening line of her new novel: Mrs. Dalloway decided she would buy the flowers herself. The flowers would proof an important metaphor in the book. This thought of buying the flowers herself would link Woolf and Clarissa. Clarissa states the same words to her lover in preparing for Richard s party. And yet the flowers would reappear in Laura Browns life as her husband buys flowers for his own birthday. Flowers that normally represent life and color ironically represent sadness and loneliness in this novel. Death hangs over this ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 47. The Strange Case Of Dr. Jekyll And Mr Hyde The Strange Case of Dr Banner and Hulk Reinterpretations have played a major role in all forms of entertainment. They provide another, unique perspective on something old, something you may have read or seen. They make it possible to relive, or re experience something that you cherished, or they can enable you to love something you hated. Reinterpretations have a lot of artistic power, as can be seen in a review of The Strange Case of Dr Jekyll and Mr Hyde, written by Robert Louis Stevenson, compared to The Incredible Hulk, directed by Louis Leterrier. The value of reinterpretations can be explored through the use of these two texts by looking at the theme of duplicity in man, and analysing the characters Bruce Banner and Dr Jekyll. Dr ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... As time progresses Mr Hyde dominates his alter ego, Dr Jekyll, until only Mr Hyde remains. The plot of The incredible Hulk seems to be somewhat reversed. The movie begins with a similar experiment, but the progression of the characters is opposite. Bruce Banner learns to control the Hulk over time, whereas Dr Jekyll loses his control over Mr Hyde. Although the movie starts off with a similar experiment, the experiment is performed on Dr Banner (Dr Jekyll) by General Ross rather than Dr Banner performing it on his own impulse as Dr Jekyll did. The experiment prompts the initial transformation, which leaves Dr Banner in the form of the Hulk (Mr Hyde). However, the movie removes the potion element of Dr Jekyll and Mr Hyde and instantly begins with the involuntary transformations. Similar to Dr Jekyll s transformation from socialite to social recluse, Bruce Banner goes into hiding where he learns how to somewhat control his newfound condition through meditation. This event is similar to Dr Jekyll s partial recovery when he stops taking the potion and becomes more sociable again. Some major plot changes have been implemented in the reinterpretation, yet the character of Dr Banner remains very similar to the character of Dr Jekyll. Some differences do exist, however, and they do have an effect on the invited reading. For example, Dr Banner is motivated by love to learn to control his conditions, whereas Dr Jekyll transforms willingly to explore ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 48. The Theme OfThe Death Of Ivan Ilyich By Leo Tolstoy True Happiness The Death of Ivan Ilyich by Leo Tolstoy reveals the harsh reality of many members of the upper class society. Ivan, a man that seems to have a perfect life, is a prime example of how climbing economic and social ladders does not guarantee one s happiness. Ivan has a lucrative career, a nice house, and a seemingly happy family. What more can he ask for, right? Contrary to widespread belief, Ivan is a very unhappy man. He spends most of his time in his office, working, to keep his distance from his family primarily from his demanding wife. Ivan is later struck ill after an accident that he thought was only minor. As Ivan come to face the reality that he is indeed dying, he reflects on his life. Upon his reflection, Ivan realizes that he has not lived the happiest life. Ivan s life manifests the reality of the aristocratic type, who are often materialistic, shallow, self centered, and lacking in empathy and compassion. • 49. Reliability And Validity Of Hand Reliability and Validity of Hand held Bio Impedance in Detecting Body Fat Loss Dan Dychtwald Introduction Problem: Body fat measurements are traditionally used during weight loss interventions to ensure individuals are losing body fat and not muscle. While tests such as dual energy X ray absorptiometry (DXA) and hydrostatic immersion are the gold standard for measuring body fat, both are expensive and have limited accessibility.1 Additionally, devices such as calipers may be obtrusive and ineffective for some, especially those morbidly obese. Bioelectrical impedance (BIA) has also been used in weight loss settings, but some devices are expensive and require multiple points of contact with the individual. However, a hand held option is also available that is inexpensive, easy to use, and much less invasive. Purpose of the Study: To determine the inter rater reliability and validity (via sensitivity) of a hand held bio impendence (Omron HBF306C) device in measuring body fat among a group of overweight individuals (BMI 25 kg/m2)2 enrolled in a weight loss program. Research Questions/Hypotheses: The handheld BIA device used in this study is hypothesized to have: 1. An inter rater reliability/reproducibility ICC close to other forms of body fat measurement used in the field of dietetics (.93 .99)3 2. To reliably measure body fat and detect body fat losses in conjunction with weight loss Study Design: The inter rater reliability of a hand held BIA device is being investigated ... Answer: Euclidean median or median center is the location which minimizes/reduces the sum of Euclidean distances from all other points present in a spatial distribution to that central point. Mathematically this locations minimizes/reduces the sum and is calculated by Pythagorean Theorem. Most important use of Euclidean median in Geography are public and private facility location. In facility location the main goal is to reduce the average distance travelled per person to reach a designated facility. Euclidean median is actually the location which reduces/minimizes your transportation costs. Question: 5 what is the utility of geocoding? Using examples, what can you do with geocoded data? Answer: Geocoding is not only a science but also an art.In this process we assign locations to addresses, so that on a map these can be placed as points and analyzed with other data. So what is done is that Geographic coordinates are assigned to original data, hence the term Geocoding. 1.
