Q1 - In what ways does your media product use,
develop or challenge forms and conventions of
real media products?
COURSEWORK EVALUATION
My media product is very strong in way it develops and forms conventions of
real media products. The music video is on the song Avicii „Hey Brother‟ a
song that is actually classed as a very mainstream song so therefore the video
has to follow the conventions of a mainstream music video which ours
significantly does to an extent.
The narrative is very much aligned to Todorovs 5 part structure of
equilibrium which is a conventional narrative set out of real media products
but it does change the convention and develop its own through the use of a
framed and delusional narrative which is significant to the development of my
music video.
The way it does this challenges the forms and conventions of real media
products that are created, it is a technique you would expect in a thriller film
such as “Trance” not a music video that is shown on TV to mainstream
audiences.
The way that the music video works well to Nick Lacey‟s repertoire of
elements is a way that my media product uses the forms and conventions of
other media products, it is a song that features in the UK Top 40, something
that makes the video fit into a very pop/dance culture that is going on at the
moment, so the video we made actually shows a narrative that gets the
audience gripped to it and that fits well to the beat of the song which is very
conventional of media products, but the actual narrative of the music video
challenges the conventions of real media products by the fact that it focuses
on a very big social issue and to an extent allows the audience to feel
emotionally effected by the video, the uses and gratifications of it can allow
the spectator to relate to their own experiences or ones they have seen as the
story is set around domestic violence so therefore although it is an upbeat
dance style song.
The country theme it has is portrayed through the social problem of domestic
violence which with a mainstream music video is very unusual and different so
it therefore challenges the forms and conventions of other media products.
Ways that it conforms to other media products is through the fact it uses a
conventional character role and creates binary opposites throughout it, despite
it being a music video doing this it works effectively and the character roles
and use of a narrative has become a very conventional part of real media
products that are created.

The narrative is very much aligned to Todorovs 5 part structure of equilibrium which is a conventional narrative set out of real media products but it does change the convention and develop its own through the use of a framed and delusional narrative which is significant to the development of my music video.
  • 4. The way it does this challenges the forms and conventions of real media products that are created, it is a technique you would expect in a thriller film such as “Trance” not a music video that is shown on TV to mainstream audiences.

The way that the music video works well to Nick Lacey‟s repertoire of elements is a way that my media product uses the forms and conventions of other media products, it is a song that features in the UK Top 40, something that makes the video fit into a very pop/dance culture that is going on at the moment, so the video we made actually shows a narrative that gets the audience gripped to it and that fits well to the beat of the song which is very conventional of media products, but the actual narrative of the music video challenges the conventions of real media products by the fact that it focuses on a very big social issue and to an extent allows the audience to feel emotionally effected by the video, the uses and gratifications of it can allow the spectator to relate to their own experiences or ones they have seen as the story is set around domestic violence so therefore although it is an upbeat dance style song.
  • 6. The country theme it has is portrayed through the social problem of domestic violence which with a mainstream music video is very unusual and different so it therefore challenges the forms and conventions of other media products.

Ways that it conforms to other media products is through the fact it uses a conventional character role and creates binary opposites throughout it, despite it being a music video doing this it works effectively and the character roles and use of a narrative has become a very conventional part of real media products that are created.
