Plastic Pollution Essay
The Global Impact of Plastic Pollution Entering Marine Ecosystems Approximately, 280 million tons
of plastic is produced year round around the globe (Sigler, 2014) which accounts for 8% of the
worldwide manufacturing for oil (Vegter, et al., 2014). Plastics are a major component in most
consumer products; the reason being is that plastic is inexpensive, lightweight, durable, and an
excellent insulator. For this reason, plastic can be found in most items from: storage containers,
packaging material, communication devices, and transportation. Unfortunately, 3.5 million pieces of
plastic are estimated to enter the ocean shores daily; one third to a half of the garbage found in the
ocean originate from the beverage industry (Cohen, 2015). This litter is a symptom of our throw away
society and our approach on how we manage our natural resources (UN, 2011). Nearly one third of
plastics that is generated are for single use items such as: floss, straws, stirrer, coffee lids, and
disposable cutlery (Sigler, 2014). The presence of plastic debris will not only effect oceanic habitat
and ecosystems but have an economic effect on anthropogenic activities such as tourism on beaches
and fishing industry. Although many countries are eager to prevent and manage waste surrounding
their coastal waters; none are willing to take responsibility over the large accumulation of waste in
ocean gyres, known as garbage patches, and for good reason. These garbage patches are located in

Theme Of Life Lies In Blanche Dubois
Dealing with the harsh truths of life can be tough for anyone to handle, which is why people tell
themselves lies. These lies are called life lies a falsehood used to rationalize the lifestyle people are
living or actions they have committed. Tennessee Williams and Henrik Ibsen investigate how life lies
can turn into delusions a state of mind or way of life when they are used to cope with the stresses of
everyday life. Williams protagonist, Blanche DuBois, was a former southern belle forced to move in
with her sister, Stella, after her husband s suicide and being evicted from Belle Reve, her family home.
To cope with these traumatic events, Blanche decided to recreate her character. To do so, she lied to
the people around about her sinful past because she wanted to appear to them as the pure, southern
belle she once was. As the lies piled up, she came to believe them as truth, therefore, creating her
delusion. Blanche only came to further and more deeply believe her delusion as the play progressed.
On the other hand, Ibsen s protagonist, Nora, had been taken advantage of her whole life. She was
merely a pawn of the two most important men in her life: her father and husband. Unlike Blanche,
Nora s delusion was innate she was taught these lies were the truth from birth, whereas Blanche
consciously created her delusions to protect her from past sins. Through a series of realizations, Nora
came to see the truth of the lie she was living. Nora was a doll confined to the walls and ways of
Torvald, her husband s, doll house. Tennessee Williams, in A Streetcar Named Desire, and Henrik
Ibsen, in A Doll s House, employ life lies portrayed as delusions as coping mechanisms; Ibsen
explored how a new life and freedom can be gained from a realization of one s delusion, while
Williams explored how unwillingness to accept a delusion can further trap and confine people.
Williams utilized the symbols of light and darkness to hide Blanche physically just as she used lies to
cover up and cope with her tainted past. Blanche avoided direct exposure to light because she was
afraid of exposing herself and, therefore, her past. She [couldn t] stand a naked lightbulb in Stella s
house because of the fear it would expose her

Use Of A Master Key Expose Other Citizens Who Are Not...
The use of phones has become such a vital part of our lives, they contain so much of our life s
information, should this be open to the government in some cases? The main questions to be asked
about the F.B.I s request to apple. How open would the use of a master key expose other citizens who
are not terrorists? Why the government doesn t solely investigate Syed Farook iCloud data? Why
doesn t the government get their information from just 3rd party applications that the user downloaded
on his iPhone? Could this backdoor be used by foreign countries such as china for not as justified
reasons, such as what would be viewed as treason in non democratic countries? Why the government
cannot access the information being stored on the iPhone? This sensitive information should not be
opened using a backdoor, due the vulnerability it would open to hackers. Through the answering of
these questions supported by direct quotes and facts, it will become apparent the dangers and risks
associated with the Brute Force technique. The use of a backdoor or a Master key , would expose
innocent citizens with an iPhone. The implications of putting one in, could leave us all very exposed
and open to government surveillance. Tim Cook, Chief Executive Officer of Apple discusses what
could be opened due to the backdoor The implications of the government s demands are chilling. If the
government can use the All Writs Act to make it easier to unlock your iPhone, it would have the power

Comparing Asexual Vs. Response To Environment
What is life? A question that sounds simple, but in reality is more complex and could be answered in
multiple ways. The focus of this will be comparing asexual versus sexual reproduction. Also, the
evolution and adaptation versus response to environment. And lastly, but not any less important is
homeostasis. Sexual versus asexual reproduction both have benefits and disadvantages. Asexual is the
development of a new organism forming from one parent. When an asexual organism has an offspring
their offspring has the same exact genetic material. If the parent were to have a disease the child
would automatically get the disease in their lifetime. An sexual organism has to mate to form and
offspring. Usually an sexual organism has to be a male and female together to produce. To produce a
new organism the egg and sperm have to meet. The genetic material would be mixed when the
organism is sexual and not ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Evolution is the concept that one organism can grow into an adult and develop skills in their
environment. Adaptation is a feature that is common in a population. Adaptation can take in different
forms. Behavior of predators or temperatures that functions best. The form of an organism has to adapt
to a new lifestyle changing the way the may have been fated to evolve into. Both adaptation and
evolution have in common our an organism that grows mentally and physically or the environment the
species is in.
Homeostasis means in greek same and steady. Homeostasis a habit to want be stable equilibrium of an
organism. Homeostasis is needed for survival of all living organisms. For example humans need to
stay a temperature around 98 to keep the body temperature in this area it needs homeostasis to stay
stable. Sometimes the body is not stable for instance when the body runs a fever or gets the chills.
Without homeostasis bodies would not be able to function properly and neither would other

Zouave Soldiers In The Civil War Essay
To understand what role the Zouave Soldier played in the civil war first you must know who the
original soldiers were. The french Zouave soldier was a light infantry unit serving in the French army
between 1831 and 1962. They were mostly identified by their short open fronted jackets, baggy
trousers, and often sashes and oriental head gear. They gained members by accepting mostly
volunteers. Even though they share their french counterpart s name ,surprisingly in the civil war, they
weren t french they were made mostly of union and confederate soldiers. They too were a light
infantry unit and adapted the same African style of clothing. The Union used them more with 70
volunteers Zouave regiments with the Confederates only using 25 companies. ... Show more content

They moved at a faster pace than other soldiers, rather than marching unhurriedly. When reloading
their rifles they would lay on their backs rather than standing to do so. They would roll prone and
sometimes rose on one knee to fire back at enemies. This caused a Zouave regiment to be a force to be
reckoned with on the battlefield. The most notable Union Zouave regiment was from New York
named the 14th Brooklyn or more famously named Red Legged Devils . They received this name
during the first battle of bull run where they would repeatedly charge up Henry House Hill, and
Confederate General Thomas J. Stonewall Jackson yelled to his men, Hold On Boys! Here come those
red legged devils again! Union regiments that showed great skill and drill would be awarded with
Zouave outfits. On the battlefield the Zouave outfit would be a testimony to the how skilled you were.
The Zouave uniform was a quite elaborate uniform with a navy blue jacket and bright red pants which
made them stand out frome the standard soldier. Some Zouave regiments wore a fez with a colored
tassel and turban, a tight fitting short jacket , a wide 10 foot long sash, baggy pantaloons, white

Witchcraft in the 17th Century Essay
Witchcraft in the 17th Century
Witchcraft in Europe during the 17th century was common. It mainly took place in Germany, but also
took place in England. Witches were associated with evil; it was believed witches inherited magical
powers from Satan in exchange for the witch s soul. Some of these magical powers included
outrageous claims such as flying, being able to transform and cursing bad luck on others. It was
extremely dangerous to be accused of being a witch as the most common punishment was death, often
by beheading or even being burnt at the stake.
A large proportion of society in England believed in witchcraft, but the reasons as to why a country

[IMAGE]One of the most famous ways in history to test if one was guilty of witchcraft was the
swimming of witches method. This type of trial involved attaching a rope around a person s body and
dunking them in the water, if they were to float then they would be considered guilty. The water was
supposed to represent purity, anybody who floated was thought to have a pact with Satan and therefore
rise to the top. Although this technique was not meant as a punishment many people drowned as a
result. This type of trial was later outlawed as a superstitious and disorderly practice.
Stearne and Hopkins were two men famous for there witch hunts during the 1640 s. By 1646 Hopkins

about either of them but from records Hopkins is believed to be hot headed, arrogant and very
outgoing, he even named himself Witchfinder General. By contrast his partner Stearne was very
closed and bookish , he was not as notorious as Hopkins but had an involvement.
Surprisingly Hopkins was praised by the people and had a lot of public support, people who believed
in witches saw him as a hero and when he arrived in Norfolk in 1646 he was welcomed by masses of

Character Analysis Of Scrooge
This text states that Scrooge was extremely greedy; an example of his greediness would be when the
people that were asking for donations visited, he straight up told them he didn t believe in charity for
the sake of the government supplied help to those in need. From the reading, I know that Scrooge was
impolite as when he insulted his nephew s wife and their marriage for it involved love. This article
explicitly states him as being a cold hearted, uncaring, and selfish person when he gave Christmas day
off to his employee, and thereupon he says it is the only day of the year his employee can rob him.
The next anecdote that follows that, it says he wouldn t even give his clerk a fire to keep warm, so his
clerk used a candle hoping to stay warm. Based on what I read he had a pointed nose and frost on his
head and was always a grumpy elderly man. Nevertheless, he always had a reason to discourage a
human being. When the ghost of Christmas past came it showed him where he used to live when he
was younger and there were fields on both sides of the road and a gigantic gate that lead to the place.
He had seen a bunch of different scenes as children playing, kids running around, and anon there was
one lonely boy by himself, sitting in a room. It was seen as if his sister ran into the room and was
ecstatic that their father wanted him back and to return.

A Comparative Look At Space And Law Essay
A Comparative Look at Space and Law
Space means what we want it to mean. Defined by those who occupy it, giving it a purpose and
without it, it is nothing more than an empty area, blank and lifeless. The following two articles offer
different perspectives on the use of this space as it relates to law. In one article, space provides certain
function that determines how those who occupy it are to act, while in another it is a neutral space and
welcoming space representing choice and the freedom; a public stage used to put on a performance
and develop a professional identity.
In Norman Spaulding s article The Enclosure of Justice: Courthouse Architecture, Due Process, and
the Dead Metaphor of Trial, the focus is on adversarial space; the courthouse where confrontation
takes place and justice is administered. With little said about this space Spaulding searches for deeper,
unexplored connections between justice and the space in which it operates. Using a historical
overview, he shows how courtroom structure has become increasingly enclosed signifying law s
liberation from all political, commercial and social aspects. Furthermore, actual courtroom trials are
becoming a dead metaphor as Alternative Dispute Resolution (ADR) offer better options, mass
processing and immediate justice in private and fully enclosed settings. Spaulding concludes,
complemented by history, there exists a movement towards isolation of traditional courtroom space,
because it eliminates interruption the

Affirmative Action Should Not Be A Program
Combat racism, with more racism. That is a strategy that seems so backward in thought that it should
not be a program in modern American government and yet is still very active today. Affirmative action
is defined as the practice of improving the educational and job opportunities of members of groups
that have not been treated fairly in the past because of their race, sex, etc (Merriam Webster).
Affirmative action creates a blatantly unfair advantage in college and job applications to non minority
races and is ultimately a racist law. Affirmative action is most prominent in the College admission
process, where its racial prioritizing is the most blatant. In 2005, it was found that the acceptance rates
for African Americans at MIT were 98.7% higher than the acceptance rates for Whites or Asians
(College Admission Officers). Affirmative Action was passed in 1961 by John Fitzgerald Kennedy to
combat racial tensions in college admissions and the workforce. It gave an opportunity to minorities
that may have been previously set back from racist laws and rules to have a chance at changing their
lives for the better. This artificial raising of minority opportunities has lasted for more than two
generations and has long outlived its purpose. Affirmative Action in its modern day use is racist at the
expense of the non minority race(s), and was meant for minority advancement in a world where it was
almost impossible. Today, all races are equal in the eyes of all the

Bernard Bolzano-Pedagogue Essay
Bernard Bolzano Pedagogue
ABSTRACT: Bernard Bolzano (1781 1848), the famous logician and mathematician, worked from
1805 1819 as a religious professor at the Prague University. His studies focused on three main themes:
(1) ethical education, including a rather liberal sexual education as well as the problems of the
coexistence of Czechs and Germans in one country (with foresight into some of these matters before
the rise of extreme nationalism); (2) social problems, where he formulated for the first time his social
utopian vision of human society based on the fundamental equality of people, ideas later gathered in
his book, Von dem besten Staate; and (3) philosophy and religion, of which his lectures concentrate on
the social ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
He realized that he would influence future priests, teachers, doctors, lawyers, writers and scientists
and so the future of society itself. The fact that this faculty was reopened in 1805, because of the
Austrian Catholic restoration after the years of the Josefine Enlightenment persuaded Bolzano to see
in this employment the sign of God .
Not only did he teach Catholic religion, but his duties also included general themes lectures on
Sundays and Holidays during the school year. These talks were in place of church sermons and were
intended to help the young men to better orientate themselves in life and society. These talks became
very popular and thanks to Bolzanos students were some years later published under the
comprehensive name Erbauungsreden (Educational lectures).
The subject covered can be roughly divided into three areas: (1) ethical education, included sexual
education, then (2) social problems and (3) philosophical religious problems.
Bolzano s ethics were principally rationalistic in the spirit of the late Enlightenment. His faith in
intellect was the clear opposite to Biedermeier sentimentalism emphasizing noble sentiment , which
had also begun to win over the intellect in the Czech Crown countries.
That is why he builds his ethics principially as a hierarchical system of objective truths, which is
finalized by the highest moral law . This exists

Halloween Make Up Guide Essay
Halloween Make Up Guide Halloween is right around the corner, and you re probably planning
something amazing as a costume. Most likely, that amazing costume will require a bit more makeup
than you are used to using on a regular basis. It very well might include using makeup on parts of your
body that normally aren t subjected to it as well. If you re anything like most people when it comes to
Halloween makeup, you re probably planning to slather on the grease paint and deal with
consequences the next day. Please don t do that this year. Check out our guide below to preparing
yourself, applying makeup and cleaning up and you re on your way to a holiday that won t have you
dealing with the consequences the next day. Allow Yourself Time to Prepare Your Skin This is a
common mistake. Depending on the day of the week and whatever else you have going on, it can
almost be a necessity to rush in the door, slap on your makeup, jump into your costume, and go.
Please don t do that. Giving yourself time and your skin the adequate preparation it needs prior to
applying makeup can go along way toward keeping yourself breakout free on All Saints Day (that s
the day after Halloween). ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

with that goopy costume makeup. As we all know by now blemishes are caused by three things, dead
skin, bacteria, and oil on the skin. If you can eliminate as much of these as possible prior to sealing

Summary OfThe Assault By Harry Mulisch
In The Assault , the author, Harry Mulisch, depicts Anton Steenwijk as the protagonist, who witnesses
the violence at the night of the assault. In the subsequent years, Anton distances himself from the truth
of the assault due to his traumatic experience, his incomplete knowledge towards the event, and his
sorrowful memories. The traumatic experience makes Anton reluctant to go back to Haarlem, where
the violent assault takes place. The assault gives Anton a strike, and many times in the story, he
pledges never to go back to Haarlem. For example: He shouldn t have come; he should never have
returned to Haarlem. He should have buried all that, the way one buries the dead (Mulisch 61). It can
be inferred that deep in Anton s mind, what happens at that night is the most horrible moment to him,
and such unforgettable memories remind him of never coming back. The parallel structure here shows
a complex mindset that Anton has when he hesitates to return to Haarlem. The author uses consecutive
should and shouldn t stresses this tone. The all that here probably means all the tragic events happen in
Haarlem, including both the assault and deprivation of Anton s parents. Also, the author uses an
analogy, that Anton should forget all the things in Haarlem and never think about them again, because
it is a disgraceful memory of Anton, just like someone should bury the dead to wipe away the
mournful memories. Besides, Anton swears never to go back to Haarlem even if a job offers him a
hundred thousand gulden a year. (61) This shows Anton is resolved not to go back to Haarlem. His
reluctance to return is quite logical: Haarlem is a place teeming with unjoyful memories, and a place
where his house is burnt, and his parents are lost. Who likes to return to a place where such sorrowful
recollection flows? It is the presence of his traumatic experience that haunts Anton and holds him
from going back and seeing the place again. In the aftermath of the violent assault, Anton develops a
psychological distance that makes him too sorrowful to accept the truth. The sorrow of his can be seen
when Anton meets his former neighbor, Karin. As Once more the old bitterness welled up, the
inexhaustible bitterness. Was he meant to

Central High School Case Study
As a taxpayer of Morgan County s 3rd District and a parent whose children attend CHS and CMS; I

What Is The Legacies Of Henry V s Life
William Shakespeare s play Henry V showcases Henry IV s son Henry V life as the new king, after his
father s death, and how he is going to fix his country after his dad left England in a bad state with may
rebellions and made enemies with other countries. Ideal leadership, generosity, and cruelty are all
things that describe Henry, but after watching the play, one would feel as if they have seen this before.
His character is the embodiment of Alexander the Great. Although Shakespeare was historically
accurate in most of his play, Henry V s life is weirdly identical to Alexander s life. The two kings
succeed their fathers and faced the same challenges. Their values on life and wars they fought left
behind amazing legacies that differ from each other but are similar in multiple ways. Henry V s story
was shaped mostly by the life of Alexander, which Shakespeare took inspiration from and made

The Cultural Value Of Ballet
The art of ballet, originating and initially flourishing within Europe s borders, experienced vast
reforms between the mid 17th and early 20th centuries. Born in France s royal court, ballet pursued its
most defining escalation upon Louis XIV s founding of the Académie Royale de Danse in 1661,
wherein professional dancers received training to perform for the king and his court. Upon ballet s
increased state of professionalism and movement to locations apart from the court ballroom, women
were incorporated into the formerly male dominated art, leading ballet to be deemed a woman s
profession by the nineteenth century. With the coming of the 20th century, a focus regarding the view
of the human body combined with a desire for modernization ... Show more content on

The Ballets Russes, perhaps the most celebrated company in history, transformed the face of ballet
from the nineteenth century s classically rigid nature to that of modernistic tendencies by means of
societal proceedings. Following the devastating events of Bloody Sunday in 1905, wherein
governmental troops opened fire on peacefully petitioning peasants and workers, the Russian tsar
released his October Manifesto in an attempt to achieve compromise within society. Out of dispute,
dancers such as Mikhail Fokine, Anna Pavlova, and Vaslav Nijinsky arranged secret meetings and
protests with the help of students at the Theater School. Yearning for a greater input regarding the
future of their art after years of discouragement by Imperial mismanagement, such artists were pushed
to sign a declaration of loyalty to the Russian state. With the commitment of Sergei Legat s suicide,
the bond that once existed between the tsar and Russian art community was utterly disunited.
Performing a short solo titled The Dying Swan, Pavlova s movements proved to be of an
improvisatory nature, parting with the prior physical and cultural distinctiveness so long associated
with classical ballet. Paving the path to a style of dance that allowed for greater liberty and intensity

Looking from this climate graph of Charlottetown s 2010 climate, it is most prominent Charlottetown

observed from this climate graph is the drastic temperature change that occurs throughout the year.
From February, the temperature begins to increase, and it continues to do so at a constant, steady rate
until it reaches its peak of 17 to 18°C somewhere around July and August. From there, a steady pattern
of temperature decrease can be observed, until it hits its lowest point at which the year started from: 8
to 7°C. The total overall temperature change, looking from these approximations, seems to be 25°C.

It is found by calculating both the winter months precipitation and the summer months precipitation; if
the precipitation during the winter months is greater than the precipitation during the summer months,
the climate is maritime. Vice versa would indicate a continental climate. Winter months are October,
November, December, January, February, and March: the total is (112.4 + 115.0 + 116.7 + 97.1 + 82.3

Advantages Of Steganography
Abstract Steganography means secret communication. It can also be defined as the study of invisible
communication that is used to hide the existence of the communicated data in such a way that it
remains confidential. In steganography, secret data can be communicated in an appropriate multimedia
carrier such as image, audio and video files. Steganography can be classified into two types Adaptive
steganography and Non adaptive steganography. Each has its strengths and weaknesses. In this paper,
we review some adaptive and non adaptive methods of steganography.

Here we briefly describe the LSB matching revisited based on adaptive steganography. In 2010 Weiqi
Luo et al. [20] proposed an edge adaptive scheme which select the regions for embedding according to
the size of secret message and the difference between two successive pixels in the cover image. For
lesser embedding rates, simply sharper edge regions are used while keeping the other smoother
regions as they are. When the embedding rate enhances, more edge regions can be released adaptively
for data hiding by modifying just a few parameters. LSB matching revisited (LSBMR)[4] considers a
pair of pixels as an embedding component, in which the LSB of the first pixel embeds one bit of secret
message, and the relationship (odd even combination) of the two pixel values carries another bit of
secret message. The modification rate of pixels can decrease from 0.5 to 0.375 bits/pixel (bpp) in the
case of a maximum embedding rate, meaning lesser changes to the cover image at the same payload
compared to LSB replacement and LSB matching. It has been shown that such a scheme can avoid the
LSB replacement style asymmetry, and thus it should make the detection slightly more difficult than
the LSB matching scheme. The approach consist of two parts embeddding and extraction. The
embedding part first initializes some parameters, which are used for successive data preprocessing and
region selection, and then estimates the capacity of selected regions. If the regions are big enough for
hiding the secret message , then data hiding is performed on the selected regions. Then,it does some
postprocessing to get the stego image. Otherwise the scheme needs to revise the parameters, and then
repeats region selection and

Good and Bad Aspects of Floods
GOOD AND BAD ASPECTS OF FLOODS Flooding can be defined as occupancy by water in areas
that are normally dry. Flooding occur due to the effect of temporal level rise of rivers, lakes or other.
To some extent, flooding events can be controlled by man, depending on land use near the riverbeds.
The floods are mainly produced by the occurrence of prolonged heavy rain, such as during tropical
storms and hurricanes, coupled with local drainage difficulties caused by different causes, mainly by
the negligent action of people. But the floods have any positive aspect? Like most natural hazards,
floods can lead to loss of life and property damage, with great impact on public health that may take to
much time to recover. From 1980 2012, there were approximately 200 flood related events in the
world, in which 500,000 people, at least they died or were injured and 20 million lost their homes. In
terms of physical losses, floods are responsible for 40% of damage caused by natural disasters across
the property. According to its origin , floods are classified as rain floods, river floods and coastal
floods. Rainwater and river floods occur as a result of rainfall that occur when moisture in the seas ,
oceans and other large bodies of water , is transported to the land by the wind ; when ascending water
vapor and decrease its temperature , is presented in any of the following ways ; rain, snow or hail. The
process may arise due to the occurrence of hurricanes, normal wind ,

The Lion, The Witch And The Wardrobe, And Adolf Hitler
The White Witch or The Queen Of Narnia from C.S. Lewis book The Lion, the Witch, and the
Wardrobe, and Adolf Hitler, the old dictator of Germany are similar in many ways. The first trait they
share is cunningness, the second is evilness, and the last is cold heartedness.
Obviously, as mentioned earlier, the first trait Adolf Hitler and the White Witch share is cunningness.
The first piece of evidence that shows that the Witch is cunning is, While he was prince he would wear
a gold crown and eat Turkish delight all day long, (Lewis, 40). In this scene the Witch finds Edmund.
She tricks him to bring his siblings so that she can kill them. To do this, she said she does not have an
heir. She persuaded Edmund that if he does the job, and he would become her heir. He could then
become Prince of Narnia and eat Turkish delight all day long. Similarly, Adolf Hitler brainwashed
people to believe what he believes. Biography.com has stated, It was abridged and translated into 11
languages, selling more than five million copies by 1939. A work of propaganda and falsehoods, this
book laid out Hitler s plans for transforming German Society into one based on race, ( Adolf Hitler ).
This quote is talking about Hitler s autobiography which is full of lies and false statements. The book s
name is Mein Kampf, or My Struggle. What Hitler was trying to show was, that he almost died in

Itemized Deduction Advantages
One kind of itemized deduction is interest earned from either a home mortgage or an investment.
However, you can t do this completely freely. With your mortgage, the interest that qualifies needs to
come from the first $1 million borrowed. This is why most people can qualify for this kind of
deduction. You re also allowed two residences as one taxpayer. This kind of deduction also includes
home equity loans so long as the loan doesn t exceed $100,000. Another kind of itemized deduction
takes the form of many different taxes. When you do this, you can only itemize taxes from the year
that you file for. You can also deduct local and state income taxes, which is a major advantage behind
itemizing. Also, if you own your house, you can itemize the property taxes on it. ... Show more

These deductions are limited to a certain, age dependent percentage. If you re under 65, then you can
deduct expenses greater than 10% of your adjusted gross income (AGI). If you re 65 or older, this is
cut down to 7.5% of your AGI. You can also itemize any charitable donations you made within the
past year. Helping political campaigns or needy families aren t considered charitable , and the amount
you can deduct depends on how you make the donation. If you donate in cash, then the deduction can
be up to 50% of your AGI. If you make a property donation, then it s 30%. A final form of itemized
deductions takes the form of small expenses, but you can only deduct the portion that exceeds 2% of
your AGI. These deductions can include uniform expenses, business or education expenses,

The Pros And Cons Of Wilful And Wanton Doctrine
The child injured on our client s property would most likely be ruled a trespasser by the courts, as he
was not invited onto the property and willingly admitted such. A property owner only has the duty to
not wilfully or wantonly injure a trespasser. Leffler v. Sharp, 891 So. 2d 152 (Miss. 2004). Wilful and
wanton injury has been defined by the courts as the conscious and intentional disregard of and
indifference to the rights and safety of others, which the defendant knows or should know is
reasonably likely to result in injury, damage, or other harm. Estrada v. Consol. Util. Servs., Inc., No.
5:10 CV 161 RLV, 2011 WL 2174467, *2 (W.D.N.C. June 2, 2011) Our client probably wouldn t be
ruled to have willfully or wantonly injured the trespassing child as he did not consciously or
intentionally injure the child. There is an exception which allows for premises liability in the absence
of wilful or wanton injury to a trespasser. The exception is premises liability under the attractive
nuisance doctrine.
There are two main purposes of the attractive nuisance doctrine. First, the attractive nuisance doctrine
acknowledges that children will trespass and may be injured while doing so. The doctrine considers
this, and then weighs the interest in protecting children with its second purpose: to avoid an
unreasonable burden on the property owner when ensuring their property is safe for trespassing
children. Liability to an injured child, that was either too young to appreciate

Alcoholics Anonymous, a Religious Experience
I must admit, I had some anxiety about this assignment. I don t know if it was the negative
preconceived ideas I had or the thought of being a passenger on the ride of people s intimate thoughts
and feelings surrounding addiction. One thing is for sure, it was quite different than I had imagined it
would be. I grew up in a religious family, and I consider myself a Christian. Based on my life long
experiences AA had an air of religiosity and maybe a cult feel to it. Alcoholics Anonymous program

But the room resembled a church in that instead of a symbol of Christ, like a cross, there was a large
desk with the insignia AA hanging from the ceiling and a huge triangle affixed to the front of the desk.
There were twelve step books on the black chairs, which reminded me of how bibles are in the pews
of churches. There was an agenda of sorts, or announcements, just as they would have in a church.
They also took up an offering just as they do in church. There were readings from the twelve step
book, and there was a group leader sitting at the desk that guided the meeting just as a pastor would
do. There was even mention of God and higher power, but there was one major difference, although
they mentioned God, there was no power of God in the meeting. As the attendees began to share their
thoughts the first expression was Hi, I m Joe and I m an alcoholic , this is a contradiction. In my mind
it is self defeating to say you are something you are so desperately trying not to be. It also is denying
the power they possess at the same time because the Bible tells us in Proverbs 18:21 Death and life are
in the power of the tongue: and they that love it shall eat the fruit thereof , so if you truly believe you
have conquered the addiction it is inconsistent to say I m an alcoholic. On the other hand, maybe they
are saying they haven t conquered the addiction and they are always one foot into their addiction.
Furthermore, I don t see this as tapping into a higher power because there is no progression if your
state of mind is always saying you will always be an alcoholic. Why not say I will overcome my
addiction, and I m a former alcoholic? I understand addiction is a disease. And, the first step is
admitting you have a problem, but that is the first step not every step should include this. Most of the
people there attended several meetings weekly.

The house has gone through heavy restoration work and now is one of well maintained buildings of

this Gurudwara is that the current entrance was earlier the back yard of the house. Many old homes in

the main house. Guests were seated here before being brought inside the main house. This

Indians Vs. The Constitution Essay
They are Native Americans who are trying to build better lives for themselves but are stopped in there
tracks by the state supreme court. Proposition 5 passed in November of 98, which would allow more
gambling in the Indian reservations. The proposition was ruled to be unconstitutional. Now the
Indians are rebutting the fact that they are sovereign and the ballot was passed.
Under existing law, Indian tribes operate as semi sovereign nations, and are liable under federal law
only. Recently, the long standing political and legal tension between the Indians and the government,
which has characterized the relationship since colonization, has entered into the debate over tribal
gaming. Indian gaming is not new to California. In fact, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Many tribes contend that, as sovereign nations, they are not subject to state regulation. The state has
demanded the tribes to cease their gambling operations and enter into an agreement with the state,
which will allow quot;legal quot; tribal gaming. Some tribes have agreed to Wilson s demands,
recently signing the Wilson Pala Compact that provides state control of tribal gaming and also
establishes a limit on the size of gaming operations. The majority of tribes have refused to agree to the
terms of the Wilson Pala Compact, however, claiming that it is inflexible and grants the state too much
power over tribal affairs.
Proposition 5 provides the terms of a tribal gaming compact and requires the Governor to permit any
tribe to enter into the compact upon request. In general terms, Proposition 5 s compact contains fewer
restrictions upon tribal gaming than is provided for in the Wilson Pala Compact and is more protective
of Indian sovereignty. The differences relate to such diverse issues as the number of slot machines
permitted, the type of games authorized, the degree of state involvement in regulating tribal gaming,
employee rights, local community involvement, liability provisions, and the applicability of state
health and safety requirements.
Two constitutional concerns arise from the language of the proposition. The first is whether the
proposition establishes a statute, or

Compare And Contrast Middle School And High School
Middle school vs High school 1 Many people endure three years of middle school and four years of
high school. It is an eventful time for children between 11 to 18 years old. During the adolescent years
there are hormonal changes, environmental changes and emotional developmental gains. Middle
school is the beginning of transitioning towards independence under the constant eye of adults. During
high school they are challenged with real world challenges that help them transition into adulthood.
The behaviors of these individuals change as the factors change around them. For every person, the
experience of high school or middle school may be different. Either way, both have the same goal of
wanting the student to succeed and evolve. Even so, the similarities and differences vary. Middle
school and high school are alike in the areas of receiving an education, socializing with others, and
having teachers while different in areas of maturity, difficulty in work, and independence. 2 Middle
school and high school are alike in the aspect that individuals are receiving an education. Both groups
go to learn many different subjects that vary depending on the student. Either way it is to ensure that
each student is gaining an education for future endeavors. Both groups have many teachers that they
encounter each day. That is a prime characteristic of school which truly makes a school function. The
teachers teach, grade, and guide the students to help them create a firm understanding.

The Extermination Of The Jews
You cannot take any people, of any color, and exempt them from the requirements of civilization
without ruinous consequences to them and to society at large (Thomas Sowell). In October of 1939,
the first ghetto was established in Piotrków Trybunalski, Poland. This government enforced system
developed strategies to segregate minorities from the rest of civilization, with the ambition of
achieving a utopian society. The Nazi ghettos began to focus on the extermination of the Jews rather
than the isolation. During the year 1941, Hitler s Final Solution was a plan created to quickly
annihilate the entire Jewish population. As World War II gradually came to an end, the evolution of
ghettos had evolved into a slang term describing the minority filled districts pressured by society. An
NPR article concludes, Ghetto, in slang usage, has entirely lost the sense of forced segregation the
meaning it held for centuries. In a rapid about face, it s become an indictment of individual choices (
Segregated From Its History, How Ghetto Lost Its Meaning). The operation of ghettos was once
initiated through the force of Nazi and SS officers for the support and development of the Aryan race.
As economic, social, and personal aspirations changed, ghettos have developed into communities with
an influx of poverty and disadvantage. The impact of society s standards allows the growth and
continuation of indirect segregation throughout current ghettos.
In 1933, after his gradual

Physics of Color Vision and Color Blindness Essay
What is Color?
To understand what color is, we first need to understand what light is. Light, as perceived by humans,
is simply electromagnetic radiation with wavelengths between roughly 380 nm and 740 nm.
Wavelengths below 380 nm and above 740 nm cannot be seem by the human eye. Electromagnetic
radiation with a wavelength just below 380 nm is known as ultraviolet radiation. Electromagnetic
radiation with a wavelength just above 740 nm is known as infrared radiation. The sun, black lights
and fluorescent lamps are all sources of ultraviolet light. Heat is a source of infrared radiation, which
is how thermal vision works.

Based on our current knowledge, there is no observable physical explanation (in our brains or
elsewhere) as to how a 650 nm ray of light becomes red . As it stands, there s no proof that one day
you couldn t wake up with your visible color spectrum flipped. For more information on the debate
between physics and psychological interpretation of sensory experiences, search for the term qualia .
Now back to the physics (this is a physics webpage after all)...
The point is, color is a purely subjective experience that would not exist without eyes to see it. We can
only understand color based on how we see color, even though other animals can see it differently.
The human eye contains both rod cells and cone cells to interpret light. Rod cells interpret lower levels
of light than cone cells; they also do not see color. In light environments, cone cells become activated
and replace the rod cells as the primary source of visual information. Cone cells are the photoreceptors
used to discriminate color.
The human eye contains three different types of cone cells which interpret their own ranges of
electromagnetic wavelengths. These three cone cells are often oversimplified as the blue, green and
red cone cells when, in fact, they each cover a range of colors. Each cone cell s sensitivity to light is
distributed as a bell curve over a range of wavelengths. The three cone cells

Flaubert s Cat On A Hot Tin Roof
I am still attempting to completely grasp Flaubert s reasoning for making Emma Bovary so unrelatable
and unlikeable. With the unfortunate last portion of her life it might have been reasonable to guess it
would be enjoyable for the reader to observe such a horrendous demsie for the unlikable protagonist.
However I doubt this because she leaves behind Charles. He is a character the reader feels, at the very
least, sympathy for and at the very most can relate to from their own relationships. Because Emma
leaves him behind observing her demise is bittersweet for the reader as they can imagine Charles s
sadness. Watching such a terrible person get her just deserts also brings with it the sad experience for

rest of the story. I feel as if the setup of the family gathering is not terribly interesting, right now, but
may make for interesting revelations and conflict in the future. The death of Skipper has not really
drawn me in, since I know very little about this character and his largest impact seems to be on Brick,
a character I do not care for. He sort of just mopes around, understandable after the loss of a friend,
but this does not seem to be new behavior. His actions also make him unlikable in contrast to Maggie,
who very clearly is the one putting effort into the relationship. One insight I gained from our class
discussion was that Brick may have been gay and in a relationship with Skipper. This would make
Brick s actions more understandable and ,in my eyes, would make him less of an unlikable mope and
more of a tortured soul. I think the nature of their friendship/relationship will come into the spotlight
later in the play as I was interested just hearing of the potential theory and it could serve to clear a lot

Melting Pot In America
California has continued to be a state for newcomers to come and establish themselves in America. To
be a foundation and a way of life, I would call California the melting pot of our melting pot in
America. In reviewing California s history, one can see that California has made great strides towards
trying to give the citizens the freedom to sole their own issues. One of these solution brought together
by the people of that time was the San Francisco Union Labor Party. In the 1900 s, San Francisco
organized what is known today as a labor movement, which was established through the development
of the Metropolis of the West. It was clear that California, especially San Francisco, did not
experience this slow and steady, but a fast growth towards becoming a metropolitan area; especially
during the Gold Rush, many people were came to California in search for gold and new land. Some of
those sellers who were lucky enough to have found gold even settled in San Francisco to invest in the
open real estate, manufacturing and general trade. The newfound gold, which led new rich settlers to
San Francisco, created an abundance of people; and, once there an abundance of people, crime
becomes a large possibility. With a growing city, is crucial that the city establish foundations within
the city to keep public harmony, especially public safety. As specialists on San Francisco s waterfront,

How Cellphones Have Become An Important Part Of Our Daily...
Cellphones have become an important part of our daily lives. They connect us to others and have
revolutionized the world we live in from social interaction apps like Tinder to a GPS that will take you
wherever one needs to go. One large competitor growing in this industry is Apple. They have reached
more than 700 million people worldwide with their product, the iPhone (Tofel 2015): a milestone that
may not have been possible without mastering the art of the global supply chain. The path to the
creation of the iPhone is not as simple as the phone itself. It requires many pieces which all do not
easily come from the same place. Professor Rivoli s book Travels of a T Shirt in the Global Economy
spoke of the line between passion and reason. Through passion an iPhone was created but at what cost
or for what reason? This is about the path taken to create a product that over 700 million people
marvel about.
For Apple, the iPhone starts on the drawing boards of engineers in California. It initially started in
2007 as a phone well ahead others in technology. But what separated the iPhone from competition was
its design characteristics of simplicity, functionality, and sleek design. Today we are on the 6th
generation of the popular device. Not too much has drastically changed from the original design,
primarily technology tweaks to improve its performance. Once new modifications have been
completed, the plans are sent to Foxconn and Pegatron to be assembled in China (Rudy Media 2014).

takes on a specific connotation in our popular imagery. Typically, we do not associate the sheer bridal
veil with Islam, rather it is fused with images of a black cloak, a chador, covering a Muslim woman

many movies, television programs, and newspapers have portrayed these women. Growing up in a
country that has only shown images of women in dark, dense coverings, I did not realize that women
did not necessarily dress this way. The book explains the many different types of Muslim dress and
veils, ranging from covering everything except for the eyes to only cover the hair and neck. The
differences in dress made it clear that not all Muslim women dress the same way, despite what media

What Is The Collaborative Study On The Genetics Of...
Beirut et al. (2010) and Kalsi et al. (2008) focus on genes that are correlated to alcohol dependency or
AD. The disease can be described as the constant need to consume alcohol. Although not as discussed,
genetic variants play a role in individuals developing alcoholism. Through a genome wide association
study, these articles were able to identify and interpret some variants that relate to this disease.
The article by Bierut et al. (2010) is a discovery science article, in which there are no hypotheses
tested. This article focuses on alcohol dependence and the genetic influences that contribute. Various
case subjects were used to analyze the results from, the Collaborative Study on the Genetics of
Alcoholism (COGA). In this genome wide ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
They know that despite displaying a minimal correlation, there is a possibility for various genes to
contribute to alcoholism.
The Kalsi et al. (2008) article is a review article, therefore, lacking a hypothesis. The main idea was to
identify various genes that are related to alcoholism and how they affect the brain. The first variant
studied was DRD2, a dopamine receptor gene (Kalsi et al., 2008). This gene is known for being
related to addiction and pleasures in life. It is not shocking to know that this gene is elevated in the
nervous system, because alcohol raises the dopamine receptors and causes drinkers to feel as if they
need more, thus increasing their happiness. Another gene discussed is the GABAA gene, a component
of the GABRA2 gene. This component when found in AD, spikes an increase in tolerance level, thus
creating an effect in the brain to encourage the individual to continue drinking. Once the tolerance
levels have spiked, GABAA and another receptor gene, NPY will induce withdrawal behavior. These
variants, if found at low levels, play a vital role in the onset of alcoholism. While understanding that
the NPY gene may be found in the individuals, the CREB signaling pathway must also be discussed.
They observed a study on rodents to drive a correlation between deficient genes and their correlation
to humans. They observed this by analyzing the

The Essential Role Of Bureaucracy Necessary In American...
A bureaucracy is not only needed in American democracy, furthermore, it plays an essential role to
keep it running smoothly. Some American citizens disagree that bureaucracies are beneficial for our
democracy because they do not get to vote in the officials or bureaucrats. However, if they would be
elected officials then the nominees running would campaign for fame or to be the next bureaucrat.
This would create disloyalty among the nominees. One of the responsibilities of government
bureaucrats is to implement the law given by Congress. If bureaucracy did not exist this responsibility
would be delegated to congress, and the checks and balance system would not be as influential
pertaining to laws. The Federal Bureaucracy provides the American people with the fifteen executive
departments. These departments are incredibly important and they address and regulate the protection,
health, education, transportation, etc, of the citizens of America. American democracy depends on and
benefits greatly on the organized bureaucracies in government.

would be getting sick frequently. The newest department added is the Department of Homeland

product on television to latch peoples attention of their product. Some of this products are cars some
are shoes, or cloths, but what about the alcohol products? What do you think about those? Are they

The And Their Implementation Of Today s Contemporary,...
Hadith, in its religious use is often translated as tradition , meaning a report of the teachings, deeds
and sayings of the Islamic Prophet Muhammad. The hadith literature was compiled from oral reports
that were present in society at the time of their compilation, well after the death of Muhammad. The
collection of Ahadith (plural of Hadith) are considered by most religious scholars to be a reliable
source of Islam, just behind the Quran which they consider to be the word of God. This essay will be
focusing on Ahadith and their implementation in today s Contemporary, 21st Century period. In
particular, this composition will discuss the rulings and interpretation of Ahadith in regards to
Homosexuality and the Hijab.
Homosexuality is when an individual is sexually attracted to a person of the same sex. Although the
majority of West has gradually come to accept this practice, it is widely criticized and condemned by
the mainstream of today s Muslims, even those living in the West. Although Muslim scholars have had
strict viewpoints in regards to sexual diversity throughout the history of the faith, global modern ethics
are challenging them to step up. It is very important to clarify that the scholars themselves who read
and interpret these hadith are clouded by their own cultural background. A hadith in regards to this
topic, reported by Anas bin Malik reads: A man was with the Prophet and when another man passed
by, the former said, O Messenger of God! I love this man.

Violence In The Oresteia
In the trilogy The Oresteia, Aeschylus shows the never ending cycle of violence within the house of
Atreus. The cycle acts as a net entrapping Agamemnon, Clytemnestra, Orestes, and many other
characters and producing actions throughout the play that provoke the audience to contemplate right
versus wrong, self help justice (in the form of revenge) versus justice by trial, and honor versus
dignity. Although the events taking place throughout the play are outlandish, the audience can still
look at the character s actions and thoughts and see that they are genuinely understandable human
encounters. From this, a sense of humanity that we all have certain concerns and duties and we must
respond to them whether that be with good or bad can be noted ... Show more content on

While Clytemnestra turned on Agamemnon in order to avenge her daughter s death an action that most
people can understand the chorus decides to turn on Clytemnestra due to her outrageous crime. The
chorus concern does not lie within loyalty to the family though, it lies within the loyalty of seeking
justice for wrong doings. The chorus states that, The plunderer plundered, the killer pays the price, (L
1590) leading the audience to believe that the chorus views Agamemnon s death as justifiable
considering that Clytemnestra is only murdering the murderer. Instead, the chorus believes that
Agamemnon s death is a huge loss to the community due to his status as a war hero. Therefore, the
chorus views the sacrifice of Iphigenia as a necessary price to pay in order to do the greater good,
which in this case was fighting the war. The valor that emerges from a successful war is something to
be proud of, especially in the context of the play, which is why the audience could also rationalize the
chorus point of view one death in order to continue on in a war that could save thousands of people
from dying is quite miniscule. By continuing the war efforts, countrymen began to accept
Agamemnon acceptance being an integral part of human nature. In this case, the audience can
understand wanting to have the acceptance of his country rather than the acceptance of his wife, thus
further making this scene seem even more

eBay Structures Its Bid For Change
Problem Statement Adoption of an improper organizational structure design that is not flexible enough
to the unstable and the rapidly changing external environment in eBay s domestic and international
markets.
Analysis and Evaluation
A functional organizational structure with various operational areas, such as finance, operations,
human resources, and legal units was adopted for the eBay during its establishment. In a functional
structure, workers and activities are organized into areas of their expertise or units given specific
functions. Therefore, the structure promotes efficiency and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

With the exception of PayPal and Skype, the other companies joined the Marketplace category that
offers eBay main Marketplace activities. The Marketplace operation contributes the largest share of
the revenues for eBay, followed by PayPal and Skype with the lowest revenues.
In such a multidivisional structure, there are separate and smaller divisions that perform varying
functions. Every unit of the divisions is more focused in a given area, which makes the structure have
more ability to adapt to market changes than the functional structure. Nevertheless, this kind of
structure leads to duplication of management, administration, and staff activities, thus, there is
inefficiency in the use of functional resources, higher costs, and loss of economies of scale. The
multidivisional structure that was introduced in eBay was services centric because it was focused on
the kind of services provided in each division (Lee et al., 2015).
The changes that have occurred in eBay s organizational structure resulted in the current matrix
structure. This is because the activities of the Company are aligned along more than one line of
authority that is also applying the divisional and functional chains of command. As it is explained in
the case study, each of the three divisional units has a president and its functional areas. This kind of
structure

  • 2. Plastic Pollution Essay The Global Impact of Plastic Pollution Entering Marine Ecosystems Approximately, 280 million tons of plastic is produced year round around the globe (Sigler, 2014) which accounts for 8% of the worldwide manufacturing for oil (Vegter, et al., 2014). Plastics are a major component in most consumer products; the reason being is that plastic is inexpensive, lightweight, durable, and an excellent insulator. For this reason, plastic can be found in most items from: storage containers, packaging material, communication devices, and transportation. Unfortunately, 3.5 million pieces of plastic are estimated to enter the ocean shores daily; one third to a half of the garbage found in the ocean originate from the beverage industry (Cohen, 2015). This litter is a symptom of our throw away society and our approach on how we manage our natural resources (UN, 2011). Nearly one third of plastics that is generated are for single use items such as: floss, straws, stirrer, coffee lids, and disposable cutlery (Sigler, 2014). The presence of plastic debris will not only effect oceanic habitat and ecosystems but have an economic effect on anthropogenic activities such as tourism on beaches and fishing industry. Although many countries are eager to prevent and manage waste surrounding their coastal waters; none are willing to take responsibility over the large accumulation of waste in ocean gyres, known as garbage patches, and for good reason. These garbage patches are located in ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Theme Of Life Lies In Blanche Dubois Dealing with the harsh truths of life can be tough for anyone to handle, which is why people tell themselves lies. These lies are called life lies a falsehood used to rationalize the lifestyle people are living or actions they have committed. Tennessee Williams and Henrik Ibsen investigate how life lies can turn into delusions a state of mind or way of life when they are used to cope with the stresses of everyday life. Williams protagonist, Blanche DuBois, was a former southern belle forced to move in with her sister, Stella, after her husband s suicide and being evicted from Belle Reve, her family home. To cope with these traumatic events, Blanche decided to recreate her character. To do so, she lied to the people around about her sinful past because she wanted to appear to them as the pure, southern belle she once was. As the lies piled up, she came to believe them as truth, therefore, creating her delusion. Blanche only came to further and more deeply believe her delusion as the play progressed. On the other hand, Ibsen s protagonist, Nora, had been taken advantage of her whole life. She was merely a pawn of the two most important men in her life: her father and husband. Unlike Blanche, Nora s delusion was innate she was taught these lies were the truth from birth, whereas Blanche consciously created her delusions to protect her from past sins. Through a series of realizations, Nora came to see the truth of the lie she was living. Nora was a doll confined to the walls and ways of Torvald, her husband s, doll house. Tennessee Williams, in A Streetcar Named Desire, and Henrik Ibsen, in A Doll s House, employ life lies portrayed as delusions as coping mechanisms; Ibsen explored how a new life and freedom can be gained from a realization of one s delusion, while Williams explored how unwillingness to accept a delusion can further trap and confine people. Williams utilized the symbols of light and darkness to hide Blanche physically just as she used lies to cover up and cope with her tainted past. Blanche avoided direct exposure to light because she was afraid of exposing herself and, therefore, her past. She [couldn t] stand a naked lightbulb in Stella s house because of the fear it would expose her ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The use of phones has become such a vital part of our lives, they contain so much of our life s information, should this be open to the government in some cases? The main questions to be asked about the F.B.I s request to apple. How open would the use of a master key expose other citizens who are not terrorists? Why the government doesn t solely investigate Syed Farook iCloud data? Why doesn t the government get their information from just 3rd party applications that the user downloaded on his iPhone? Could this backdoor be used by foreign countries such as china for not as justified reasons, such as what would be viewed as treason in non democratic countries? Why the government cannot access the information being stored on the iPhone? This sensitive information should not be opened using a backdoor, due the vulnerability it would open to hackers. Through the answering of these questions supported by direct quotes and facts, it will become apparent the dangers and risks associated with the Brute Force technique. The use of a backdoor or a Master key , would expose innocent citizens with an iPhone. The implications of putting one in, could leave us all very exposed and open to government surveillance. Tim Cook, Chief Executive Officer of Apple discusses what could be opened due to the backdoor The implications of the government s demands are chilling. • 5. Comparing Asexual Vs. Response To Environment What is life? A question that sounds simple, but in reality is more complex and could be answered in multiple ways. The focus of this will be comparing asexual versus sexual reproduction. Also, the evolution and adaptation versus response to environment. And lastly, but not any less important is homeostasis. Sexual versus asexual reproduction both have benefits and disadvantages. Asexual is the development of a new organism forming from one parent. When an asexual organism has an offspring their offspring has the same exact genetic material. If the parent were to have a disease the child would automatically get the disease in their lifetime. An sexual organism has to mate to form and offspring. Usually an sexual organism has to be a male and female together to produce. To produce a new organism the egg and sperm have to meet. The genetic material would be mixed when the organism is sexual and not ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... • 6. Zouave Soldiers In The Civil War Essay To understand what role the Zouave Soldier played in the civil war first you must know who the original soldiers were. The french Zouave soldier was a light infantry unit serving in the French army between 1831 and 1962. They were mostly identified by their short open fronted jackets, baggy trousers, and often sashes and oriental head gear. They gained members by accepting mostly volunteers. Even though they share their french counterpart s name ,surprisingly in the civil war, they weren t french they were made mostly of union and confederate soldiers. They too were a light infantry unit and adapted the same African style of clothing. The Union used them more with 70 volunteers Zouave regiments with the Confederates only using 25 companies. ... When reloading their rifles they would lay on their backs rather than standing to do so. They would roll prone and sometimes rose on one knee to fire back at enemies. This caused a Zouave regiment to be a force to be reckoned with on the battlefield. The most notable Union Zouave regiment was from New York named the 14th Brooklyn or more famously named Red Legged Devils . They received this name during the first battle of bull run where they would repeatedly charge up Henry House Hill, and Confederate General Thomas J. Stonewall Jackson yelled to his men, Hold On Boys! Here come those red legged devils again! Union regiments that showed great skill and drill would be awarded with Zouave outfits. On the battlefield the Zouave outfit would be a testimony to the how skilled you were. The Zouave uniform was a quite elaborate uniform with a navy blue jacket and bright red pants which made them stand out frome the standard soldier. • 7. Witchcraft in the 17th Century Essay Witchcraft in the 17th Century Witchcraft in Europe during the 17th century was common. It mainly took place in Germany, but also took place in England. Witches were associated with evil; it was believed witches inherited magical powers from Satan in exchange for the witch s soul. Some of these magical powers included outrageous claims such as flying, being able to transform and cursing bad luck on others. It was extremely dangerous to be accused of being a witch as the most common punishment was death, often by beheading or even being burnt at the stake. A large proportion of society in England believed in witchcraft, but the reasons as to why a country which was developing a belief in ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... [IMAGE]One of the most famous ways in history to test if one was guilty of witchcraft was the swimming of witches method. This type of trial involved attaching a rope around a person s body and dunking them in the water, if they were to float then they would be considered guilty. The water was supposed to represent purity, anybody who floated was thought to have a pact with Satan and therefore rise to the top. Although this technique was not meant as a punishment many people drowned as a result. This type of trial was later outlawed as a superstitious and disorderly practice. Stearne and Hopkins were two men famous for there witch hunts during the 1640 s. By 1646 Hopkins had almost 150 hangings to his name and was well known in England for his hunts. Little is known about either of them but from records Hopkins is believed to be hot headed, arrogant and very outgoing, he even named himself Witchfinder General. By contrast his partner Stearne was very closed and bookish , he was not as notorious as Hopkins but had an involvement. Surprisingly Hopkins was praised by the people and had a lot of public support, people who believed in witches saw him as a hero and when he arrived in Norfolk in 1646 he was welcomed by masses of people who believed he would be a solution to their ... From the reading, I know that Scrooge was impolite as when he insulted his nephew s wife and their marriage for it involved love. This article explicitly states him as being a cold hearted, uncaring, and selfish person when he gave Christmas day off to his employee, and thereupon he says it is the only day of the year his employee can rob him. The next anecdote that follows that, it says he wouldn t even give his clerk a fire to keep warm, so his clerk used a candle hoping to stay warm. Based on what I read he had a pointed nose and frost on his head and was always a grumpy elderly man. Nevertheless, he always had a reason to discourage a human being. When the ghost of Christmas past came it showed him where he used to live when he was younger and there were fields on both sides of the road and a gigantic gate that lead to the place. He had seen a bunch of different scenes as children playing, kids running around, and anon there was one lonely boy by himself, sitting in a room. • 10. A Comparative Look At Space And Law Essay A Comparative Look at Space and Law Space means what we want it to mean. Defined by those who occupy it, giving it a purpose and without it, it is nothing more than an empty area, blank and lifeless. The following two articles offer different perspectives on the use of this space as it relates to law. In one article, space provides certain function that determines how those who occupy it are to act, while in another it is a neutral space and welcoming space representing choice and the freedom; a public stage used to put on a performance and develop a professional identity. In Norman Spaulding s article The Enclosure of Justice: Courthouse Architecture, Due Process, and the Dead Metaphor of Trial, the focus is on adversarial space; the courthouse where confrontation takes place and justice is administered. With little said about this space Spaulding searches for deeper, unexplored connections between justice and the space in which it operates. Using a historical overview, he shows how courtroom structure has become increasingly enclosed signifying law s liberation from all political, commercial and social aspects. Furthermore, actual courtroom trials are becoming a dead metaphor as Alternative Dispute Resolution (ADR) offer better options, mass processing and immediate justice in private and fully enclosed settings. Spaulding concludes, complemented by history, there exists a movement towards isolation of traditional courtroom space, because it eliminates interruption the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 11. Affirmative Action Should Not Be A Program Combat racism, with more racism. That is a strategy that seems so backward in thought that it should not be a program in modern American government and yet is still very active today. Affirmative action is defined as the practice of improving the educational and job opportunities of members of groups that have not been treated fairly in the past because of their race, sex, etc (Merriam Webster). Affirmative action creates a blatantly unfair advantage in college and job applications to non minority races and is ultimately a racist law. Affirmative action is most prominent in the College admission process, where its racial prioritizing is the most blatant. In 2005, it was found that the acceptance rates for African Americans at MIT were 98.7% higher than the acceptance rates for Whites or Asians (College Admission Officers). Affirmative Action was passed in 1961 by John Fitzgerald Kennedy to combat racial tensions in college admissions and the workforce. It gave an opportunity to minorities that may have been previously set back from racist laws and rules to have a chance at changing their lives for the better. This artificial raising of minority opportunities has lasted for more than two generations and has long outlived its purpose. Affirmative Action in its modern day use is racist at the expense of the non minority race(s), and was meant for minority advancement in a world where it was almost impossible. Today, all races are equal in the eyes of all the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Bernard Bolzano-Pedagogue Essay Bernard Bolzano Pedagogue ABSTRACT: Bernard Bolzano (1781 1848), the famous logician and mathematician, worked from 1805 1819 as a religious professor at the Prague University. His studies focused on three main themes: (1) ethical education, including a rather liberal sexual education as well as the problems of the coexistence of Czechs and Germans in one country (with foresight into some of these matters before the rise of extreme nationalism); (2) social problems, where he formulated for the first time his social utopian vision of human society based on the fundamental equality of people, ideas later gathered in his book, Von dem besten Staate; and (3) philosophy and religion, of which his lectures concentrate on the social ... The fact that this faculty was reopened in 1805, because of the Austrian Catholic restoration after the years of the Josefine Enlightenment persuaded Bolzano to see in this employment the sign of God . Not only did he teach Catholic religion, but his duties also included general themes lectures on Sundays and Holidays during the school year. These talks were in place of church sermons and were intended to help the young men to better orientate themselves in life and society. These talks became very popular and thanks to Bolzanos students were some years later published under the comprehensive name Erbauungsreden (Educational lectures). The subject covered can be roughly divided into three areas: (1) ethical education, included sexual education, then (2) social problems and (3) philosophical religious problems. Bolzano s ethics were principally rationalistic in the spirit of the late Enlightenment. His faith in intellect was the clear opposite to Biedermeier sentimentalism emphasizing noble sentiment , which had also begun to win over the intellect in the Czech Crown countries. That is why he builds his ethics principially as a hierarchical system of objective truths, which is finalized by the highest moral law . This exists ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 15. Summary OfThe Assault By Harry Mulisch In The Assault , the author, Harry Mulisch, depicts Anton Steenwijk as the protagonist, who witnesses the violence at the night of the assault. In the subsequent years, Anton distances himself from the truth of the assault due to his traumatic experience, his incomplete knowledge towards the event, and his sorrowful memories. The traumatic experience makes Anton reluctant to go back to Haarlem, where the violent assault takes place. The assault gives Anton a strike, and many times in the story, he pledges never to go back to Haarlem. For example: He shouldn t have come; he should never have returned to Haarlem. He should have buried all that, the way one buries the dead (Mulisch 61). It can be inferred that deep in Anton s mind, what happens at that night is the most horrible moment to him, and such unforgettable memories remind him of never coming back. The parallel structure here shows a complex mindset that Anton has when he hesitates to return to Haarlem. The author uses consecutive should and shouldn t stresses this tone. The all that here probably means all the tragic events happen in Haarlem, including both the assault and deprivation of Anton s parents. Also, the author uses an analogy, that Anton should forget all the things in Haarlem and never think about them again, because it is a disgraceful memory of Anton, just like someone should bury the dead to wipe away the mournful memories. Besides, Anton swears never to go back to Haarlem even if a job offers him a hundred thousand gulden a year. (61) This shows Anton is resolved not to go back to Haarlem. His reluctance to return is quite logical: Haarlem is a place teeming with unjoyful memories, and a place where his house is burnt, and his parents are lost. Who likes to return to a place where such sorrowful recollection flows? It is the presence of his traumatic experience that haunts Anton and holds him from going back and seeing the place again. In the aftermath of the violent assault, Anton develops a psychological distance that makes him too sorrowful to accept the truth. The sorrow of his can be seen when Anton meets his former neighbor, Karin. As Once more the old bitterness welled up, the inexhaustible bitterness. Was he meant to ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Ideal leadership, generosity, and cruelty are all things that describe Henry, but after watching the play, one would feel as if they have seen this before. His character is the embodiment of Alexander the Great. Although Shakespeare was historically accurate in most of his play, Henry V s life is weirdly identical to Alexander s life. The two kings succeed their fathers and faced the same challenges. Their values on life and wars they fought left behind amazing legacies that differ from each other but are similar in multiple ways. Henry V s story was shaped mostly by the life of Alexander, which Shakespeare took inspiration from and made England s Great King, Henry V, a legacy that will never be forgotten. ... • 20. The Cultural Value Of Ballet The art of ballet, originating and initially flourishing within Europe s borders, experienced vast reforms between the mid 17th and early 20th centuries. Born in France s royal court, ballet pursued its most defining escalation upon Louis XIV s founding of the Académie Royale de Danse in 1661, wherein professional dancers received training to perform for the king and his court. Upon ballet s increased state of professionalism and movement to locations apart from the court ballroom, women were incorporated into the formerly male dominated art, leading ballet to be deemed a woman s profession by the nineteenth century. The Ballets Russes, perhaps the most celebrated company in history, transformed the face of ballet from the nineteenth century s classically rigid nature to that of modernistic tendencies by means of societal proceedings. Following the devastating events of Bloody Sunday in 1905, wherein governmental troops opened fire on peacefully petitioning peasants and workers, the Russian tsar released his October Manifesto in an attempt to achieve compromise within society. Out of dispute, dancers such as Mikhail Fokine, Anna Pavlova, and Vaslav Nijinsky arranged secret meetings and protests with the help of students at the Theater School. Yearning for a greater input regarding the future of their art after years of discouragement by Imperial mismanagement, such artists were pushed to sign a declaration of loyalty to the Russian state. With the commitment of Sergei Legat s suicide, the bond that once existed between the tsar and Russian art community was utterly disunited. Performing a short solo titled The Dying Swan, Pavlova s movements proved to be of an improvisatory nature, parting with the prior physical and cultural distinctiveness so long associated with classical ballet. Looking from this climate graph of Charlottetown s 2010 climate, it is most prominent Charlottetown s climate closely resembles that of a typical maritime The most prominent characteristic that I observed from this climate graph is the drastic temperature change that occurs throughout the year. From February, the temperature begins to increase, and it continues to do so at a constant, steady rate until it reaches its peak of 17 to 18°C somewhere around July and August. From there, a steady pattern of temperature decrease can be observed, until it hits its lowest point at which the year started from: 8 to 7°C. It can also be defined as the study of invisible communication that is used to hide the existence of the communicated data in such a way that it remains confidential. In steganography, secret data can be communicated in an appropriate multimedia carrier such as image, audio and video files. Steganography can be classified into two types Adaptive steganography and Non adaptive steganography. Each has its strengths and weaknesses. Here we briefly describe the LSB matching revisited based on adaptive steganography. In 2010 Weiqi Luo et al. [20] proposed an edge adaptive scheme which select the regions for embedding according to the size of secret message and the difference between two successive pixels in the cover image. For lesser embedding rates, simply sharper edge regions are used while keeping the other smoother regions as they are. When the embedding rate enhances, more edge regions can be released adaptively for data hiding by modifying just a few parameters. LSB matching revisited (LSBMR)[4] considers a pair of pixels as an embedding component, in which the LSB of the first pixel embeds one bit of secret message, and the relationship (odd even combination) of the two pixel values carries another bit of secret message. The modification rate of pixels can decrease from 0.5 to 0.375 bits/pixel (bpp) in the case of a maximum embedding rate, meaning lesser changes to the cover image at the same payload compared to LSB replacement and LSB matching. It has been shown that such a scheme can avoid the LSB replacement style asymmetry, and thus it should make the detection slightly more difficult than the LSB matching scheme. The approach consist of two parts embeddding and extraction. The embedding part first initializes some parameters, which are used for successive data preprocessing and region selection, and then estimates the capacity of selected regions. If the regions are big enough for hiding the secret message , then data hiding is performed on the selected regions. Then,it does some postprocessing to get the stego image. Otherwise the scheme needs to revise the parameters, and then repeats region selection and ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 23. Good and Bad Aspects of Floods GOOD AND BAD ASPECTS OF FLOODS Flooding can be defined as occupancy by water in areas that are normally dry. Flooding occur due to the effect of temporal level rise of rivers, lakes or other. To some extent, flooding events can be controlled by man, depending on land use near the riverbeds. The floods are mainly produced by the occurrence of prolonged heavy rain, such as during tropical storms and hurricanes, coupled with local drainage difficulties caused by different causes, mainly by the negligent action of people. But the floods have any positive aspect? Like most natural hazards, floods can lead to loss of life and property damage, with great impact on public health that may take to much time to recover. From 1980 2012, there were approximately 200 flood related events in the world, in which 500,000 people, at least they died or were injured and 20 million lost their homes. In terms of physical losses, floods are responsible for 40% of damage caused by natural disasters across the property. According to its origin , floods are classified as rain floods, river floods and coastal floods. Rainwater and river floods occur as a result of rainfall that occur when moisture in the seas , oceans and other large bodies of water , is transported to the land by the wind ; when ascending water vapor and decrease its temperature , is presented in any of the following ways ; rain, snow or hail. The Pros And Cons Of Wilful And Wanton Doctrine The child injured on our client s property would most likely be ruled a trespasser by the courts, as he was not invited onto the property and willingly admitted such. A property owner only has the duty to not wilfully or wantonly injure a trespasser. Leffler v. Sharp, 891 So. 2d 152 (Miss. 2004). Wilful and wanton injury has been defined by the courts as the conscious and intentional disregard of and indifference to the rights and safety of others, which the defendant knows or should know is reasonably likely to result in injury, damage, or other harm. Estrada v. Consol. Util. Servs., Inc., No. 5:10 CV 161 RLV, 2011 WL 2174467, *2 (W.D.N.C. There is an exception which allows for premises liability in the absence of wilful or wanton injury to a trespasser. The exception is premises liability under the attractive nuisance doctrine. There are two main purposes of the attractive nuisance doctrine. First, the attractive nuisance doctrine acknowledges that children will trespass and may be injured while doing so. The Extermination Of The Jews You cannot take any people, of any color, and exempt them from the requirements of civilization without ruinous consequences to them and to society at large (Thomas Sowell). In October of 1939, the first ghetto was established in Piotrków Trybunalski, Poland. This government enforced system developed strategies to segregate minorities from the rest of civilization, with the ambition of achieving a utopian society. The Nazi ghettos began to focus on the extermination of the Jews rather than the isolation. During the year 1941, Hitler s Final Solution was a plan created to quickly annihilate the entire Jewish population. As World War II gradually came to an end, the evolution of ghettos had evolved into a slang term describing the minority filled districts pressured by society. An NPR article concludes, Ghetto, in slang usage, has entirely lost the sense of forced segregation the meaning it held for centuries. In a rapid about face, it s become an indictment of individual choices ( Segregated From Its History, How Ghetto Lost Its Meaning). The operation of ghettos was once initiated through the force of Nazi and SS officers for the support and development of the Aryan race. In light environments, cone cells become activated and replace the rod cells as the primary source of visual information. Cone cells are the photoreceptors used to discriminate color. • 39. Veiling For Muslim Women Vast numbers of Muslim women around the world, range by wearing a simple head scarf to full body burqa. The book aims to explain this very visible, yet controversial and least understood Islam emblem. Sahar Amer highlights the multiple meanings of veiling, showing that the practice cannot be homogenized or oversimplified and it extends well beyond the religious and political accounts that are overwhelming proclaimed both inside and outside Muslim majority societies. Despite popular belief, Islam did not invent veiling nor is the practice specific to Muslims (Amer, 1). Veiling has been practiced by Christian, Jewish and Muslim women for the past two millennia, but somehow it is associated primarily with Muslims (Amer, 1). It is interesting ... In Merriam Webster English dictionary, it states nearly the same definition, but goes on to mention the nun s headdress and the bride s ornamental head cover as examples of veiling (Amer, 10). So why do we, as Euro Americans typically associate veiling with Islamic practice? In reference to Islam, the veil takes on a specific connotation in our popular imagery. Typically, we do not associate the sheer bridal veil with Islam, rather it is fused with images of a black cloak, a chador, covering a Muslim woman from head to toe in Iran (Amer, 10). Unfortunately, the media plays another role in this as this is how many movies, television programs, and newspapers have portrayed these women. Growing up in a country that has only shown images of women in dark, dense coverings, I did not realize that women did not necessarily dress this way. The book explains the many different types of Muslim dress and veils, ranging from covering everything except for the eyes to only cover the hair and neck. The differences in dress made it clear that not all Muslim women dress the same way, despite what media had taught ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The disease can be described as the constant need to consume alcohol. Although not as discussed, genetic variants play a role in individuals developing alcoholism. They know that despite displaying a minimal correlation, there is a possibility for various genes to contribute to alcoholism. The Kalsi et al. (2008) article is a review article, therefore, lacking a hypothesis. The main idea was to identify various genes that are related to alcoholism and how they affect the brain. The first variant studied was DRD2, a dopamine receptor gene (Kalsi et al., 2008). This gene is known for being related to addiction and pleasures in life. It is not shocking to know that this gene is elevated in the nervous system, because alcohol raises the dopamine receptors and causes drinkers to feel as if they need more, thus increasing their happiness. Another gene discussed is the GABAA gene, a component of the GABRA2 gene. This component when found in AD, spikes an increase in tolerance level, thus creating an effect in the brain to encourage the individual to continue drinking. Once the tolerance levels have spiked, GABAA and another receptor gene, NPY will induce withdrawal behavior. These variants, if found at low levels, play a vital role in the onset of alcoholism. While understanding that the NPY gene may be found in the individuals, the CREB signaling pathway must also be discussed. They observed a study on rodents to drive a correlation between deficient genes and their correlation to humans. They observed this by analyzing the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 41. The Essential Role Of Bureaucracy Necessary In American... A bureaucracy is not only needed in American democracy, furthermore, it plays an essential role to keep it running smoothly. Some American citizens disagree that bureaucracies are beneficial for our democracy because they do not get to vote in the officials or bureaucrats. However, if they would be elected officials then the nominees running would campaign for fame or to be the next bureaucrat. This would create disloyalty among the nominees. One of the responsibilities of government bureaucrats is to implement the law given by Congress. If bureaucracy did not exist this responsibility would be delegated to congress, and the checks and balance system would not be as influential pertaining to laws. • 44. The And Their Implementation Of Today s Contemporary,... Hadith, in its religious use is often translated as tradition , meaning a report of the teachings, deeds and sayings of the Islamic Prophet Muhammad. The hadith literature was compiled from oral reports that were present in society at the time of their compilation, well after the death of Muhammad. The collection of Ahadith (plural of Hadith) are considered by most religious scholars to be a reliable source of Islam, just behind the Quran which they consider to be the word of God. This essay will be focusing on Ahadith and their implementation in today s Contemporary, 21st Century period. In particular, this composition will discuss the rulings and interpretation of Ahadith in regards to Homosexuality and the Hijab. Homosexuality is when an individual is sexually attracted to a person of the same sex. Although the majority of West has gradually come to accept this practice, it is widely criticized and condemned by the mainstream of today s Muslims, even those living in the West. Although Muslim scholars have had strict viewpoints in regards to sexual diversity throughout the history of the faith, global modern ethics are challenging them to step up. It is very important to clarify that the scholars themselves who read and interpret these hadith are clouded by their own cultural background. The cycle acts as a net entrapping Agamemnon, Clytemnestra, Orestes, and many other characters and producing actions throughout the play that provoke the audience to contemplate right versus wrong, self help justice (in the form of revenge) versus justice by trial, and honor versus dignity. Although the events taking place throughout the play are outlandish, the audience can still look at the character s actions and thoughts and see that they are genuinely understandable human encounters. While Clytemnestra turned on Agamemnon in order to avenge her daughter s death an action that most people can understand the chorus decides to turn on Clytemnestra due to her outrageous crime. The chorus concern does not lie within loyalty to the family though, it lies within the loyalty of seeking justice for wrong doings. The chorus states that, The plunderer plundered, the killer pays the price, (L 1590) leading the audience to believe that the chorus views Agamemnon s death as justifiable considering that Clytemnestra is only murdering the murderer. Instead, the chorus believes that Agamemnon s death is a huge loss to the community due to his status as a war hero. Therefore, the chorus views the sacrifice of Iphigenia as a necessary price to pay in order to do the greater good, which in this case was fighting the war. The valor that emerges from a successful war is something to be proud of, especially in the context of the play, which is why the audience could also rationalize the chorus point of view one death in order to continue on in a war that could save thousands of people from dying is quite miniscule. By continuing the war efforts, countrymen began to accept Agamemnon acceptance being an integral part of human nature. In this case, the audience can understand wanting to have the acceptance of his country rather than the acceptance of his wife, thus further making this scene seem even more ... The Marketplace operation contributes the largest share of the revenues for eBay, followed by PayPal and Skype with the lowest revenues. In such a multidivisional structure, there are separate and smaller divisions that perform varying functions. Every unit of the divisions is more focused in a given area, which makes the structure have more ability to adapt to market changes than the functional structure. Nevertheless, this kind of structure leads to duplication of management, administration, and staff activities, thus, there is inefficiency in the use of functional resources, higher costs, and loss of economies of scale. The multidivisional structure that was introduced in eBay was services centric because it was focused on the kind of services provided in each division (Lee et al., 2015). The changes that have occurred in eBay s organizational structure resulted in the current matrix structure.
