Italian Stereotypes
Throughout the world, each country has their hidden vacation spots, imaculous history, unique food,
and different traditions the people withhold and proud to represent from where they are from. Italy, the
country that was chosen to explore all these different aspects, has a large scale of history from when
the country was born in the first century BC under Rome, until moden Italy was born in 1861, when it
independently became a kingdom. Italy has experienced victories in wars and political crises, and
major events have occurred to represent Italy as a whole in today s world. Italy is known as a country
of love, ranked 23rd in population size of 2017, and the citizens of Italy are known to be proud and
very known that are from there (Zimmermann, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
We as Americans have seen shows such as Jersey shores, and Growing up Gotti , and believe that all
Italians act and look that way. In reality Italians from the southern part of Italy tend to tan faster
because they are closer to the equator which makes a lot of sense. The media has made it seem like all
Italians are tan and it s normal for them to look the way that they do. This stereotype has some truth to
it but not all Italians are this way.
These stereotypes that have been associated with Italian culture aren t true but not completely false.
This goes to show us that we can t always believe what we are being told about different cultures. The
media is a huge factor in why these stereotypes have been associated with Italy.
One of the biggest roadblocks to successful intercultural communication with Italians is how Italians
communicate with nonverbal actions in casual conversation. A few of the nonverbal actions include
personal space, touching, eye contact, and certain gestures. First of all, Italians do not believe in
personal space because it is viewed as a sign of affection or friendship to be in close proximity of one
another, according to a cultural portfolio created by DePauw University. This differs from American
culture greatly. Americans tend to require more personal space. For example, if two strangers are
having a casual conversation, and one of them gets too close to the other, space is being invaded and
they will feel as if the first person is in their face and will try to back

Florida, Maine and Minnesota to do research on how low income families survive (Ehrenreich, 9). Dr.
Ehrenreich, put herself into the daily life of a low income worker, which over millions of Americans
are working jobs for lower wage (Ehrenreich, 10). Chapter 1, consists of an introduction of the author
and how she believes she has advantages like being white, native English speaker and being so well
educated that she even said should could never experience poverty because of those advantages (11).

The Importance Of Cell Phones In Society
Since the late 1990s, cell phones have gone from being just a luxury to a necessity in today s
constantly advancing society. With people and companies becoming increasingly connected, cell
phones allow you to perform job duties whenever and wherever you might find yourself. The first cell
phones were very bulky and ample and they resembled a radio accessory. The first Motorola was two
pounds. Over the years, the structure of cell phones has adapted to fit the style and wants of every
user. Cell phone usage has become a necessity of life in today s society. People cannot live without
their cell phones. What was once considered a luxury item, is now a must have item at just about
every moment. Cell phones have become a very popular electronic product with the constant
availability of fast internet connection, GPS capability and the life saving tracking device and help for
people in emergency situations. The importance of cell phones has grown over the years with more
and more people getting addicted to the speedy technology. It is not just a luxury anymore, it serves as
a basic need. (Why have cell phones become a necessity in common society?) Cell phones help you
stay in touch with your family and maintain a relation with your business associates. Cell phones are
necessary to communicate with people whom you work with and people who live far away from you.

Imagine Dragons Research Paper
When it comes to bands and singers, Imagine Dragons is definitely one of the best. They are an
American indie/rock/alternative band from Las Vegas. Their variety in music, appealing sound and
development is what makes them worth your time. This band should definitely be added to your
playlist and here s why:
Imagine Dragons is an amazing band because of their variety of music. To some extent, it does not
matter what style of music you like, there will be a song they have written you will enjoy. They range
from alternative rock, to indie pop, electropop, indie rock and pop rock. Their songs can be upbeat,
mellow, aggressive or melancholic. Thunder is an example of a more upbeat song while Battle Cry is a
more mellow/sad song. Imagine Dragons ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
No one is going to listen to a poor sounding singer or band. Imagine Dragons definitely covers
sounding good. Their lead vocalist, Dan Reynolds, is loved by fans for his impassioned vocals [that]
often feel tailor made for shout out loud choruses (http://atwoodmagazine.com/) but also his
passionate vocals in other songs. Atwood magazine wrote a review for Imagine Dragons newest album
and said, Dan s vocals stretch over the music and into the silence, I can almost feel all of the things the
band s been through to get here. Imagine Dragons has been through some difficulties in their career
and for a while, no one knew who they were and also having some members fight depression. But
then they wrote the right song and became famous. Although they became famous, they stayed true to
their original image and their fans. As reviews have shown, Imagine Dragons has a very pleasant and
also passionate sound. Some of their music can be slightly distorted, and this is not to everyone s taste,
but this only applies to a couple of their songs. Although their sound may not be organic on the rare
occasion, overall Dan Reynolds has an extremely pleasant sounding voice and the instrumental side of

Employment Trends Are Not Always A Bad Thing
Employment Trends
Trends are not always a bad thing, contrary to popular beliefs. It s actually something that can inspire
change growth as I ve seen with my experiences. Sometimes bias prejudice may produce certain
disadvantages for targeted groups, employment trends may be a benefit. Through my experiences in
activities that I ve engaged with, problems I ve encountered, the professional growth gained is one in
which I would like to share to others for the sole benefit of becoming a bridge builder for them. In this
essay I will reflect on this experiences and their relationship with current employment trends.
As a student athlete at the University of Illinois, I ve noticed a certain skew in the ethnicity of staff
hired at the University in comparison with the populations that they serve. The ration between staff to
student or even coach to student shares more familiarity with those of a Caucasian back ground. Of
the 19 Varsity sports available within the University of Illinois Division of Intercollegiate Athletics,
only two of them have head coaches that are of African American decent. This number is an increase 0
prior to June 2015 with the hiring of Head Women s Softball Coach, Tyra Perry, the recent hiring of
Head Football Coach, Lovie Smith earlier this year. This trend follows a much important trend that
carries through many institutions of higher education in reference to their administration. These
administrators, as shown in the issues surfacing with

The European Union And Its Impending Decline
Summary:
The European Union is faced with its impending decline, which has accelerated in recent weeks with
anxieties regarding the British referendum, which is becoming a primary concern on the continent. A
possible Brexit could possibly lead to the fifth largest economy in the world and the second largest
economy in the Eurozone from leaving the European Union (E.U). The Brexit is the most contested
issue both within the United Kingdom (U.K) and the European continent. In the wake of a rampant
security and refugee crises in Europe, Europe s need to keep an economically strong member of the

In addition to the safeguards proposed by the U.S, the Europeans also want limitations on the data
available to U.S security agencies. If the agreement is not approved or fails to meet the national
regulators standards it is possible that European privacy firms and consumer companies may call for
tighter restrictions surrounding the movement of data. Tighter restrictions would result in tech
companies like Amazon, Google and Facebook, who rely on people s data in order to tailor
advertisements towards their users/ consumers.
With tensions in the Middle East escalating, the refugee crisis in Europe is escalating, the increasing
number of people has led the E.U to consider isolating Greece from the rest of the Schengen area

taken to close the borders of Macedonia in order to keep the refugees in Greece (Corder, 2016). The

The Characteristics Of Being A Jerk
Jerks; regardless of upbringings, current conditions, or social status, when one is confronted with the
idea of a jerk, certain people or behaviors may swiftly come to mind. When the concept of a person
like Dale, who disregards the needs of others and does not practice courtesy, arises, it is quite evident
that he is a jerk, and therefore, a considerably unjust being. Based on both the historical analyses of
Polemarchus or Thrasymachus and the current standards elaborated upon by scholars such as Eric
Schwitzgabel, Dale could undeniably be deemed a jerk. Jerks see the world through goggles that dim
others humanity. , states Eric Schwitzgabel, in his article How to Tell If You re a Jerk (Schwitzgabel).
Schwitzgabel states that with respect to scientifically recognized categories of personality, the jerk is
very similar to that of the dark triad ; the dark triad consists of narcissism, Machiavellianism, and
psychopathic tendencies (Schwitzgabel). Regardless, there are still many traits of being a jerk that
cannot be seen in the dark triad (Schwitzgabel). Narcissism may regard themselves as more important
than the people that surround them, but could also, unlike a jerk, strive to be the center of attention;
Machiavellians believe that other people are tools to be exploited for personal gain, but in doing so are
conscious to their cynicism rather than ignorant; psychopaths are often selfish and callous, with a
tendency to engage in impulsive risk taking, but jerks

Comparing Men And Women In Shakespeare s Othello
Women are looked over in Othello but end up being the downfall of their male counterparts; It was
Desdemona that was Othello s greatest weakness and Emilia was Iago s. This is alluding to
Shakespeare being incredibly progressive in a time where women were widely renowned as objects of
men. By analyzing and comparing aspects of both Emilia and Desdemona in the William Shakespeare
play Othello This is illustrated in Othello by comparing the difference in the opinions between Emilia
s and Desdemona s on taking and following orders from men, the double standard between men and
women when it comes to human impulses and urges, and how hard a fight they will put up against a
man. Emilia exhibits the traits of a modern feminist for her time.

faithfulness and pieces together Iago s role in the planting of the idea. Emilia calls guards and screams
at Othello, defending Desdemona. She continually insists Desdemona could and would never have
cheated on Othello and responds to Othello s accusation of Desdemona being unfaithful by saying o,
the more angle she, and you the blacker devil! (5.2.161). Emilia not only draws on Desdemona s
angelic presence, but also Othello s biggest insecurity; his ethnicity. The action of her referring him to
a blacker devil not only associates Othello with the embodiment of all evil but also stripps him of his
accomplishments by taking away his name and only speaking to his skin color. Iago rushes into the
chamber and in an argument between them, kills Emilia because she exposed his role in the entire
thing. Emilia s last dying wish was to die next to her honorable mistress, proving Emilia s complete

Diesel Engine Research Paper
The diesel (internal combustion) engine has been a major source of power for transportation vehicles
and industrial uses. The Australian railways have utilised diesel engines for regional and freight
purposes since the early 1950 s. Despite the extensive history of the diesel engine, the efficiency of the
modern internal combustion process ranges between 35% 42%.[1] The losses in energy arise from
heat losses and mechanical losses as illustrated in Fig 1.
Figure 1. Schematic of conventional vehicle system model. Only a small percentage of energy is
converted into useful work to power the wheels and other accessory loads.[2]
Figure 1 indicates that a significant amount of energy is lost from the exhaust and coolant systems.
Exhaust temperatures generally range between 400 900°C depending on the application. This presents
a significant opportunity to recover the heat losses from the exhaust to reduce the fuel consumption. In
addition to the advantage gained from the improved fuel consumption, there are other benefits such as
reducing exhaust emissions and increased engine power.
To effectively capture the energy lost from a diesel engine exhaust pressures, the turbocharger was
implemented to boost the power of engine and thereby increasing the fuel efficiency. The majority of
the heat energy from the exhaust and coolant has yet to be captured and utilised. There has been many
challenges to recovering the heat as the low grade heat from the diesel engine cannot be

Negative Aspects Of Social Media
Every night Charlene texts her best friend who she usually talks to all day. Charlene just downloaded
the new version of IOS 9 on her brand new iPhone 8; a leather case, new screen protector, and front
facing camera were included to ensure all her virtual communication needs. Unfortunately, the blue
pine at the front of her house snapped as forty miles an hour wind rushed from the north. The
magnificent beast slowly descended onto the electric power line, which caused a blackout within
every house on the block. Lights go out and nobody can communicate except the family members in
that household; however, without the social media realm, Charlene finds herself crying, not from the
darkness, but the loneliness that encircles her. Isolation becomes an extremely possible realization
because of the constant virtual communication. As hundreds of millions of smart phones create an
online social network, there may be disturbances happening within the offline physical world. Most
teens and adolescents are increasingly involved with the digital universe; this creates problematic
barriers. Growth of an individual depends on many specific factors in daily life. Negative aspects of

a decreased quality of life for the user. Life continues to be influenced by social media on a daily

Essay about Private Property
The ideology behind what private property represents and conveys through the theories of both Locke
and Marx s results in contrasting views. Locke heavily stresses the blending of labor and common
land to create private property to increase one s wealth. Liberty and livelihood under Locke s theory is
tied to the ability of an individual to control the use of their private property. Marx s theory strongly
contends that the bourgeoisie has gained control of the profit making private properties leaving the
working class in a stage of exploitation. Marx s conclusion then is to set private property in the hands
of the people in hopes of creating universal economic equality. Respectively each thesis places
governments, labour and religion ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Marx s model of private property views it as means of production creating a division of labor. In his
theory, Marx takes a look and how private property, along with wealth, are funneled into the hands of
the few leaving the ordinary worker unable to gain wealth from private property. The outcome of
Marx s principle can be seen especially in the last 30 years in the US with the increase of inequality
and access to wealth to unprecedented numbers (USA 11).
When examining both theories about private property one cannot go without recognizing the
important role that labour plays. Locke who considers labour the cornerstone of man s ability to
provide upon himself and that the act itself is so important labour indeed that puts the difference of
value on every thing (MPT 297). Locke s belief that every man is born into the world with an equal
amount of capability with labour as the main variable determining success. Marx s writings take a
look at where private property comes from and who is the beneficiary of such a product. This is where
labour is introduced into his analyzes of private property and the concept of externalized labor, that is,
externalized man, alienated labor, alienated life and alienated man (MPT 771). Marx s theories look
into the exploitation of one social group, the proletarians, by the wealthy class, the bourgeois that is
now in the open due to the structure of capitalism. The workers eventually

Globalization Of Genghis Khan
Source One:
The principal substance of the material is about how the present day globalization is homologous to
the conveyance of messages during Genghis Khan s era and how Genghis Khan was a salient
benefactor to the conception of globalization. Some bias for the article is how the writer of the article
stated ...his contributions to the integration of ethnicities and civilizations cannot be ignored, this is
bias due to the fact that the writer is only conveying the message that Genghis Khan is a great ruler
and contributor and is not writing much of anything against him. Another source of bias in the article
is when the writer wrote conspicuously more about how Genghis is a paramount and prominent
contributor to ethics and civilization, as well as how the writer utilized more quotes on about how
accomplished Genghis is, Genghis Khan promoted globalization unlike other rulers before him. I
speculate that the author of the article desired the readers to comprehend a bit about globalization and
how Genghis Khan was a substantial benefactor to it, while attempting to seem impartial as to whether
Khan was a compelling and enticing leader. The audience intended for this article are students and
historians to inform and enlighten them about historical globalization and Genghis Khan. This source

The Applications of Typical as-plasma-sprayed...
Typical as plasma sprayed hydroxyapatite (HA) coatings along the thickness have an internal gradient
structure and chemistry [Rs]. The thickness gradient structure extends from amorphous base to
crystalline surface. During plasma spraying, the amorphous calcium phosphate (ACP) base is formed
by rapid cooling of external molten part of flying HA spray powder particles upon impact on cold
substrate. If the flying HA spray powder particles are heated in plasma jet above 1843 K, but below
1973 K, the ACP, tricalcium phosphate (TCP) and tetracalcium phosphate (TTCP) will co exist in
close proximity within rapidly quenched structure [Rs]. If overheating temperatures are higher than
1973 K, the CaO will be additionally present. The CaO containing ACP phase can be considered as
hydroxyl deficient phase because it is formed from a melt which has experienced the highest
temperatures in plasma jet ( 1973 K) [Rs]. The ACP, TTCP and CaO produce an increase of the Ca/P
molar ratio in the near interface region of the as plasma sprayed HA coatings, which is known as the
Ca/P ratio gradient [Rs].
Considering the applications of HA coatings as medical implants, the thickness gradient structure is
unfavorable. The crystalline surface promotes poor initial bone fixation and the ACP base imparts low
structural integrity of the HA coatings [Rs]. The last is of particular importance because a brittle
nature of the ACP phase has been frequently held responsible for deterioration of the HA coating s

The Pros And Cons Of A War With Iraq
What does the United States have to gain from a war with Iraq? Supporters of a war with Iraq say it
will help prevent the risk of an attack by a weapons of mass destruction developed by Iraq. Critics of a
military action that say nothing will be gained, and the U.S. just wants to obtain the oil that Iraq
controls. They claim that casualties will be too costly for America to afford. Nonetheless, America
should act while others will not for fear of disturbing global peace. Iraq poses a clear and present
danger to the security of the United States and the security of countries around the world.
For the past several months the United Nations Security Council has debated on whether or not to
accept the U.S. proposal to force Iraq to comply the new and former resolutions. The new resolution
calls for complete disarmament of Iraq and the re entrance of weapons inspectors into Iraq. If Iraq

Some critics say Iraq poses no real threat and should be left alone. If the U.S. leaves Iraq alone, they
will continue to research and build weapons of mass destruction, and they will use them to kill
Americans on a large scale through terrorism. What will those critics say then when a nuclear device
destroys New York because we did not force Iraq to disarm? Unfortunately, the critics do raise a valid
point in concern with the loss of American life if we do attack. All of us are indebted to the service

What Intermolecular Forces Explain Why Propionic Acid Has...
Intermolecular forces explain why propionic acid has the highest boiling point because, the
relationship between boiling points and intermolecular forces is directly proportional. The stronger the
intermolecular forces, the higher the boiling point. The force of attraction between molecules is based
on the polarity of the molecule. Therefore, as bonds increase in polarity, intermolecular forces become
stronger.
There are four main types of intermolecular forces, the strongest force, first place, is ionic bonds,
second place hydrogen bond interactions, third place dipole interactions, last place London dispersion/
Van der Waals interactions. Ionic forces occur when a complete transfer of electrons takes place when
one interacting atom is much more electronegative than the other, causing atoms and molecules to take
on charges. Hydrogen bonding occurs when a hydrogen atom is bonded to a very electro negative
atom, specifically a nitrogen, oxygen or, fluorine atom. The third strongest is dipole interactions which
is a sharing of electrons also known as covalent bonding. Finally, London dispersion/ Van der ... Show

We are going to need to need lots of food and water, because I am not sure how much is on mars. We

A Brief Look at Guantanamo Bay
today Guantanamo Bay has been a big topic in today s society. On his campaign trail, President
Obama pledged, I will close Guantanamo bay detention center within a year of being elected . My
main argument has to be the amount of money were wasting on this prison. To be specific according to
democratic lawmakers it has skyrocketed to $2.7 million per inmate. Guantanamo has been dubbed
the most expensive prison on earth. President Barack Obama in May citied its cost then calculated at
about $900,000 per prisoner. That s one of the many reasons to close it. My evidence supports my
topic sentence because it just states fact of why this expensive prison should be shut down. It s
common sense would you rather have all the money the tax payers ... Show more content on

Seems unfair right? But if that doesn t convince you that this prison is worthless then this might. The
pentagon wants to more improvements on the prison and spend more of YOUR hard working money. I
guarantee you that the shutdown of this prison will bring a lot of great benefits. First the spending of
ridiculous money on a prison will be out of the picture. Second the boycotts in front of the white
house and government building will stop. People that want this prison close will do everything they
can to get it shut down and create something more productive that can benefit everyone in the United
States for the future.
Even though my main argument has to be the amount of money we re wasting on this prison, they
should close down the prison because we can t be wasting that much money on inmates that should be
dead. The United State citizens who are paying from their taxes are not agreeing with this prison
instead of wasting the money on that they can help the economy boost back up.
The most important reason they should close the prison down has to be the amount of money we are
wasting on it. We waste $2.7 million dollars a year on EACH inmate. If this doesn t seem legit all the
money budget can be found very quickly. We need all our money to go to us and help us boost up our
economy. The prison isn t worth keeping and having those inmates being kept there.
The smart thing to do in a scenario like this has to be is shutting the prison down and save our money

The Importance Of Work Betty Friedan Summary
Rhetorical Analysis of Betty Friedan s The Importance of Work Betty Friedan, a best selling author, a
strong activist, and the first president of the National Organization for Women, wrote the book The
Feminine Mystique in 1963. The book analyzes American women who felt trapped by feminine
standards and their domesticated roles in society. In the excerpt, The Importance of Work, from The
Feminine Mystique, Friedan focuses on American women s search for human identity, which she
defines as meaningful and purposeful work. Throughout her essay, Friedan appeals to logic and
emotion by combining persuasive methods and rhetorical strategies, such as metaphors, rhetorical

than all such things, and able to suffice unto itself without them, is the sense of the amount of effort
which we can put forth.

Santiago s Pride
Pride is defined as a feeling of satisfaction derived from one s own achievements. Pride can push
people to prove themselves. Pride can help people when they face new challenges. Pride is a powerful
motivator in people s lives. If one does not have pride, how will one be motivated to keep going?
However, too much pride can lead to an arrogant attitude. The Greeks referred to this type of feeling
as hubris. Hubris, excessive pride, is often the cause of someone s downfall in literature. Pride needs
to be combined with humility in order for it to be positive in the ideal life. In The Old Man and the
Sea, Santiago is pushed by pride to persevere through his challenges. Ernest Hemingway illustrates
how an old man can have a great sense of pride ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The boy came back to Santiago with supper given to him by the owner, Martin, and Santiago replies, I
must give him something more than the belly meat then. He is very thoughtful for us (20).
Hemingway thus reveals the Old Man is not too proud to accept help from others. The Old Man
clearly has relatable human qualities to the everyday reader. Although Santiago takes much pride, he
humbles himself when the boy utters, And the best fisherman is you ... Santiago replies, No. I know
others better (23). The author thus demonstrates Santiago is humble about his abilities. He still
acknowledges that there is better fisherman than he is, illustrating he has control of any potential
hubris. After killing the fish, Santiago thinks to himself about the boy; The boy keeps me alive.... I
must not deceive myself too much (106). Hemingway thus emphasizes Santiago is not too proud to
admit he is dependent on the boy. The Old Man knows he is dependent on the boy and that he would
most likely not be alive if it were not for him. He is clearly not ungrateful. After the sharks destroy the
Marlin, Santiago notes, Nothing . . . I went out too far (120). Hemingway thus implies Santiago views
the Marlin as a worthy opponent. Hemingway also reveals that Santiago is aware that his pride led to
his downfall. Santiago knew he went too far out, but he still made the irrational decision because he

Consequently, the only way that employees can attempt to satisfy higher level needs at work is to seek
more compensation, so it is quite predictable that they will focus on monetary rewards. While money
may not be the most effective way to self fulfillment, it may be the only way available. People will use
work to satisfy their lower needs, and seek to satisfy their higher needs during their leisure time.
Unfortunately, employees can be most productive when their work goals align with their higher level
needs.
McGregor makes the point that a command and control environment is not effective because it relies
on lower needs for motivation, but in modern society those needs are mostly satisfied and thus no
longer motivate. In this situation, one would expect employees to dislike their work, avoid
responsibility, have no interest in organizational goals, resist change, etc., thus creating a self fulfilling
prophecy. To McGregor, motivation seemed more likely with the Theory Y model.
Theory Y The higher level needs of esteem and self actualization are continuing needs in that they are
never completely satisfied. As such, it is these higher level needs through which employees can best
be motivated.
In strong contrast to Theory X, Theory Y leadership makes the following general assumptions: * Work
can be as natural as play if the conditions are favorable. * People will be self directed and creative to

Response 1 Nosferatu
My experience watching a feature length silent film was very interesting, to say the least. I found it
amazing that they were able to tell a complete story on only visual elements. Nosferatu had many
similarities to A trip to the Moon by George Melies. Comparatively it had more storytelling elements
character development purely due to film length. I feel it would be very challenging to produce such a
complex story under the constraints of such a short film. I believe my experience to be very typical of
someone who has never watched a full length silent film, I was gripped with curiosity on how this film
would tell the great story of Dracula without the stereotypical screams and jump scares that horror
movies today bring to the screen. I feel like the film did a fantastic job of telling the story with the
limitations of being able to use sound. I will be very interested in watching another full length silent

Writing Is The First Nonmilitary Course I Have Taken
Writing 101 is the first nonmilitary course I have taken in the last 10 years. The reason I elected to
take writing 101 was twofold. There is the obvious reason which is of course, that I need to complete
this class to move forward with my educational goals in getting my bachelor s degree. The second
reason is that I have always had a great interest in writing both from view point of the writer and that
of the reader. I have spent the last 17 years reading and writing many different products for the Navy
from instructions to messages, each having their own unique format and purpose. The military style of
writing is very different from how we write in the civilian world; each one has their place but I find
that writing nonmilitary works are more enjoyable, yes even the academic papers. When I first started
the WRTG 101 class my writing and sentence structure skills were rusty to say the least. Now at the
end of the writing 101 class I can say that my writing and sentence skill levels have improved but by
no measure the best they can be.
Using an unfamiliar format and tools was an interesting obstacle to overcome to say the least but not
the end point of what I learned in this course. The Communications Fitness or COMFIT website was a
great tool I liked that it took you many different directions to help you understand a topic. The two
topics I can say that COMFIT really helped with were commas and colons and semicolons. The
examples and tests helped me better understand

Impact of Race in Othello Essay
Impact of Race in Othello
One of the major issues in Shakespeare s Othello is the impact of the race of the main character,
Othello. His skin color is non white, usually portrayed as African although some productions portray
him as an Arabian. Othello is referred to by his name only seventeen times in the play. He is referred
to as The Moor fifty eight times. Webster s Revised Unabridged Dictionary (1913) states that a Moor
is Any individual of the swarthy races of Africa or Asia which have adopted the Mohammedan
religion. In Spanish history the terms Moo, Saracens, and Arabs are synonymous. This indicates that
Othello is constantly being degraded and set up as an evil person throughout the play. What this really
means is that ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Shakespeare occasionally used the word to mean brunette or just dark complected1. Roderigo s
comment that he has thick lips indicates that he is of African descent, though (1.1.67). Using the
modern understanding of these references, Othello would most likely be portrayed as an African on
modern stage or film.
Othello himself was a slave before he was an important military official (1.3.137). However, he wasn t
sold into slavery as most African slaves were. He was captured by the enemy and forced into slavery
as a prisoner of war. Hence, the slavery of the play and of the time is viewed as a financial or military
misfortune rather than a racial inferiority which would be commonly accepted for several hundred
years after the play was written. Black and slave were not interchangeable terms at the time as it was
during America s early history. European slaves were commonly Tartar, Greek, Armenian, Russian,
Bulgarian, Turkish, Circassian, Slavonic, Cretan, Arab, or African. As if to distance the issue of
slavery even further, it was often portrayed as happening long ago or far away on the English
Renaissance stage2. As Shakespeare wrote the play, feudalism was eroding, but it was still strong in
the minds of the audience. Slavery is very similar to feudalism in that they both involve the lower
classes being subject to higher classes. Slavery had to be distanced from the English in order to not be
threatening and to reassure them

Victims Receive Restitution
There are several reasons that victims are not receiving restitution. However, the primary reason is
that a significant number of crimes are not reported. Nevertheless, other factors must also be
considered, such as offenders not being caught or convicted and victims not going through with
prosecution. Apparently, if these factors are eliminated, victims would receive reimbursements, not to
mention more criminals would be off the streets (Karmen, 2010). Unfortunately, a lessened degree of
knowledge by victims regarding the different programs available is an issue. Nevertheless, a lack of
discipline by the victim exists, i.e. providing appropriate receipts to the Judge, insurance agency, or

African Of African American Culture
There is no doubt that African Americans have a rich cultural background and history like the many
different ethnic groups who settled in the New World, whose origins lie in another country. For this
reason, America was known as the melting pot. However, the backgrounds of each of these cultures
were not always understood or, in the case of African Americans, accepted among the New World
society and culture. Americans were ignorant to the possibility of differences among groups of people
until information and ideas started to emerge, particularly, the African retention theories. This sparked
an interest in the field of African culture and retention in African Americans. However, the study of
African American culture truly emerged as a result of increased awareness in America, specifically
through the publication and findings of scholarly research and cultural events like the Harlem
Renaissance where all ethnicities were able to see this rich historical culture of African Americans.
There were many who became dedicated to this field of study, but two of the most predominant
researchers and scholars of the African retention theories were Lorenzo Turner and Melville
Herskovits. While both researchers examined different aspects of culture, Herskovits and Turner were
both convinced that there was indeed African retention in African American culture and society (Wade
Lewis 402). Turner specifically researched linguistic retention, while Herskovits researched many

Marc Lepine Insane Cases
Throughout history, there have been many criminals who used the insanity defence to receive a fair
trial, but some of of these people were not actually insane. However, in the case the 1989 Montreal
massacre, Canadian journalists medicalized Marc Lepine s deviance in their writing techniques to
divert the public s attention from the event. According to Horwitz (1981), the medicalization of
criminal behaviour refers to the tendency to define deviance as a manifestation of an underlying
sickness, to find the causes of deviance within the individual rather than in the social structure. . . (p.
750). The type of deviances that can be viewed under the term medicalization is mental sickness and

imperative when fighting off cancer cells and the harsh chemicals from treatment. The Ketogenic Diet
is a new cancer treatment, which is free, with virtually no side effects. It can also be conjoined with
other cancer treatments. The diet involves cutting carbohydrates, beginning with the worst
carbohydrate of all, sugar (Johnson L, 2013). It is a high fat, adequate protein, low carbohydrate diet.
The diet forces the body to burn fats rather than carbohydrates. Normally the carbohydrates contained
in food are converted into glucose, which are then transported around the body. However, if there are
little carbohydrates in the diet then the liver converts fat into fatty acids and ketone bodies. Ketone
bodies are water molecules that are produced when the body is consuming very little food, which
mimics fasting. Cancer is an obligate glucose metabolizer because it fuels on sugar. One s normal cells

Women s Movement During The Civil Rights Movement
The activism era was an era where different groups of people worked to change how things were seen
and done in America. These people took different social issues and brought them to the front of the
table to be discussed and noticed by the American people. Although many of them caused great
controversy, all of the movements made a great impact on how our country is the way that is is today.
The Civil Rights Movement, Women s movement, and counterculture were all different movements
during the activism era, however, they were all working towards a common goal: equality.
One of the most popular and successful movements of the era was the Civil Rights Movement. The
Civil Rights Movement consisted of African American and white citizens wanting to get rid of
discrimination in America. There were different approaches to this movement including mostly
nonviolent approaches. Martin Luther King Jr. once said that Negroes had been humiliated and
oppressed just for the sole fact that they were Negro citizens. This shows us what African Americans
went through during that time, and it also shows us why they wanted equality. Another movement that
was modeled after the Civil Rights movement was the Women s movement. ... Show more content on

Theme Of Redemption In Gran Torino
GRAN TORINO
Identify critical moments in the film Gran Torino where Walt Kowalski is transformed from a racist
tormented character to a compassionate father figure.
Gran Torino is a film directed by Clint Eastwood, with Eastwood who is also taking on the key role as
the main character and protagonist; Walt Kowalski. Eastwood plays a retired auto worker and Korean
War veteran who feels emptiness in his life. His character is happiest on his home porch, beer in hand,
dog his only ally, his lawn immaculate, despising the many Asian, Latino and black families in his
neighborhood. However, the redemption of such a character is critical to the storyline as Walt becomes
a reluctant hero, standing up to gang members who have totally unsettled his lifestyle; an attempted
theft of his prized possession, a 1972 Gran Torino, sets Walt on a mission to rectify things for himself
and his Hmong neighbors. Eastwood uses symbolism and cinemograph techniques to exemplify the
theme of redemption. The most notable moment when Walt becomes a father figure, is when he
confronts the gang at their house, just after sue was raped and beaten.
The film explores the possibility of redemption, second chances , and the hope that comes from
having a positive future. Both Walt and Thao experience redemption in the film. Walt is saved from
the guilt of a murderous past as a soldier and the disappointment of broken relationships within his
own immediate family. Ultimately, Walt finds peace with himself, with others and with God. Walt s
young neighbour, Thao is rescued from a future of crime and violence, and the shame of attempted
theft. Ultimately, Thao gains a future as a hard working, respectable American citizen and man. It is
evident from the beginning of the movie that Walt has a hard line attitude towards the church, which is
partly because of the pain and torment he experienced from Korea. Walt exhibits strong racial slurs as
he had strong racial prejudices, also mainly because of the 50 s style of thinking he has and likewise
from the time in Korea, as this is how they talked about them. It is symbolic as he still thought and
spoke like that back after the war, showing the audience that he is still at war, not with the

Essay The Benefits Genetic Engineering for Medical Purposes
Genetic Engineering has developed by very rapidly over the past twenty years. It is also one of the

Scientists once believed that human adult stem cells could be used, but that idea was quickly put to

as the fact that adult stem cells may contain more DNA abnormalities. Stem cell research could one
day lead to the cures of diseases such as cancer, Alzheimer s and Parkinson s disease (NIH, FAQ s, 1).
Did you know that with the science of DNA manipulation, animal cadavers can be turned into insulin
for diabetics? Back in the 80 s scientists isolated the human gene for insulin and transferred it into
bacteria. Now bacteria cultures are used to produce large amounts of human insulin. DNA
manipulation is especially important in medicine, where it holds the hope of curing genetic diseases
such as Huntington s, and even some types of cancer. There are several major types of DNA
manipulation enzymes used by living cells. The first type is DNA polymerase, which cells use to
replicate their own DNA. The next type is DNA ligase, which joins 2 pieces of DNA to create a single
piece. The third type is restriction enzymes, which appear to be made only by bacteria. Restriction
enzymes are very important enzymes that are vital to our manipulation of DNA (Rapoza, DNA, 2).
Another way of manipulating DNA is by cloning. Cloning is the production of exact copies of the

Determining the Effect of Potential Household Repellents...
Introduction:
The purpose of this project is to determine the effect of household substances, which contain naturally
occurring ant repelling chemicals, on ant behavior. While there are many plants that chemically repel
ants, this project will test if there are any household products, which contain some of the same
naturally occurring repellents, which ants will avoid. This paper will first identify what plants repel
ants.
The herbs and plants that best repel ants are tansy, catnip, pennyroyal, peppermint, sage, coffee, and
spearmint. All of these but catnip have some of medicinal use. Catnip and pennyroyal are both in the
mint family. It is already known what makes catnip a repellent nepetalactone, a chemical that
simulates pheromones. It is repulsive to insects, but attractive to cats. Tansy is also a repellent, and
was used to repel insects as early as the 19th century. However, this is for a different reason tansy
contains a volatile oil that becomes toxic when broken down. However, the components of this oil,
such as 1,8 cineole, thujone, camphor, and myrtenol all have various chemical and pheromonal
properties. The herb sage is more useful than tansy, but still contains many of the same chemicals
cineole, camphor, alpha thujone, and beta thujone. It is highly possible that these chemicals have some
sort of pheromonal effect on ants. On the other hand, there is pennyroyal repellent to ants because it
contains toxic oil, mostly based on a chemical called

entire time, Charlie still manages to talk to her. Plus, Charlie s only 13 years old, could you imagine as
a thirteen year old kid trying to talk to your crush, after you had just witnessed her sister s hanging
body from a tree just a few days ago. Charlie wasn t relaxed and comfortable with Eliza the whole
time, but he was most of the time spent with her. Eliza and I sit down. We re no longer holding hands,
but I am acutely aware of our shoulders touching. We sit silently for time. I begin to feel awkward
again. (Silvey 190). What do you think Charlie was thinking at that

The Advantages And Dilemmas Of Child Care For Children
Tamai Butler
Coach Beale
Senior Capstone
March , 9 , 2018 One of the biggest decisions parents have to make after choosing to have a child
involves deciding who will care for that child, especially during the early developmental years.
Parents choose to resolve this difficult dilemma in many ways. Some families choose to use full time
childcare, while in other families one parent stays or works at home for all or part of the time. In other
families, a parent chooses to leave the workforce completely in order to become the primary caregiver.
Finding appropriate and affordable child care is often a challenge. There are different options available
in different places, and at many different price points although all options are expensive. Each care
option comes with its own advantages and disadvantages. It can be confusing ... Show more content

Nonetheless, my parents friends would routinely leave their children under my care when we got
together with other families for play dates and tea parties they obviously saw something in me that I
grew aware of more strongly as I got older. If I was always naturally going to gravitate into a role
which involved caring for children, I get huge satisfaction from working with people in general, old or
young. As much as my current role is to do with how much I love to care for children, there are other
important aspects involved in my career path. It is not just communicating well with children that is a
vital skill but also how you communicate with the people that are most important to that child. As a
nanny you learn skills which enable you to help children to develop into happy, healthy little people.
To be able to show parents how to develop their own confidence and skills to care for their children
and see them build the closest of connections, must be one of the best feelings you can get as a

The Field Of Development And Myself Than Ever Before
Skills Learned Over the course of three months I have learned more about the field of development
and myself than ever before. There were many things that surprised me, both positively and
negatively, but as a whole much more in the positive realm. Having a CO OP directly in my field of
study, especially as my first placement, has given me insight into what I already do well and areas for
improvement, but also insight into where I see myself one day. Some of the integral skills my summer
at GAC taught me were taking direction from multiple sources, stress management, and using French
as a second language. Working for two teams within a branch no matter where you are working poses
challenges. In my past work of fast food and retail, switching from cooking to serving or from mens to
ladies fashion can be complex but nothing compared to having the responsibility of two full time
government jobs in one. I would receive emails every day, multiple times a day, asking my to do what
seemed like ten things per email. I learned to deal with high volumes of tasks you must identify what
the person is asking and what tasks will take priority. As a student, it can be intimidating to turn down
work or tell people you cannot do what they are asking. However, it is a necessity in order to get work
done. Equally, being clear with superiors of what you are already working on diminishes unrealistic
expectations of completion times. I found it very helpful to email multiple people that had

  • 2. Italian Stereotypes Throughout the world, each country has their hidden vacation spots, imaculous history, unique food, and different traditions the people withhold and proud to represent from where they are from. Italy, the country that was chosen to explore all these different aspects, has a large scale of history from when the country was born in the first century BC under Rome, until moden Italy was born in 1861, when it independently became a kingdom. Italy has experienced victories in wars and political crises, and major events have occurred to represent Italy as a whole in today s world. Italy is known as a country of love, ranked 23rd in population size of 2017, and the citizens of Italy are known to be proud and very known that are from there (Zimmermann, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... We as Americans have seen shows such as Jersey shores, and Growing up Gotti , and believe that all Italians act and look that way. In reality Italians from the southern part of Italy tend to tan faster because they are closer to the equator which makes a lot of sense. The media has made it seem like all Italians are tan and it s normal for them to look the way that they do. This stereotype has some truth to it but not all Italians are this way. These stereotypes that have been associated with Italian culture aren t true but not completely false. This goes to show us that we can t always believe what we are being told about different cultures. The media is a huge factor in why these stereotypes have been associated with Italy. One of the biggest roadblocks to successful intercultural communication with Italians is how Italians communicate with nonverbal actions in casual conversation. A few of the nonverbal actions include personal space, touching, eye contact, and certain gestures. First of all, Italians do not believe in personal space because it is viewed as a sign of affection or friendship to be in close proximity of one another, according to a cultural portfolio created by DePauw University. This differs from American culture greatly. Americans tend to require more personal space. For example, if two strangers are having a casual conversation, and one of them gets too close to the other, space is being invaded and they will feel as if the first person is in their face and will try to back ... Their lead vocalist, Dan Reynolds, is loved by fans for his impassioned vocals [that] often feel tailor made for shout out loud choruses (http://atwoodmagazine.com/) but also his passionate vocals in other songs. Atwood magazine wrote a review for Imagine Dragons newest album and said, Dan s vocals stretch over the music and into the silence, I can almost feel all of the things the band s been through to get here. Imagine Dragons has been through some difficulties in their career and for a while, no one knew who they were and also having some members fight depression. It s actually something that can inspire change growth as I ve seen with my experiences. Sometimes bias prejudice may produce certain disadvantages for targeted groups, employment trends may be a benefit. Through my experiences in activities that I ve engaged with, problems I ve encountered, the professional growth gained is one in which I would like to share to others for the sole benefit of becoming a bridge builder for them. In this essay I will reflect on this experiences and their relationship with current employment trends. As a student athlete at the University of Illinois, I ve noticed a certain skew in the ethnicity of staff hired at the University in comparison with the populations that they serve. The ration between staff to student or even coach to student shares more familiarity with those of a Caucasian back ground. Of the 19 Varsity sports available within the University of Illinois Division of Intercollegiate Athletics, only two of them have head coaches that are of African American decent. This number is an increase 0 prior to June 2015 with the hiring of Head Women s Softball Coach, Tyra Perry, the recent hiring of Head Football Coach, Lovie Smith earlier this year. This trend follows a much important trend that carries through many institutions of higher education in reference to their administration. These administrators, as shown in the issues surfacing with ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The Characteristics Of Being A Jerk Jerks; regardless of upbringings, current conditions, or social status, when one is confronted with the idea of a jerk, certain people or behaviors may swiftly come to mind. When the concept of a person like Dale, who disregards the needs of others and does not practice courtesy, arises, it is quite evident that he is a jerk, and therefore, a considerably unjust being. Based on both the historical analyses of Polemarchus or Thrasymachus and the current standards elaborated upon by scholars such as Eric Schwitzgabel, Dale could undeniably be deemed a jerk. Jerks see the world through goggles that dim others humanity. , states Eric Schwitzgabel, in his article How to Tell If You re a Jerk (Schwitzgabel). Schwitzgabel states that with respect to scientifically recognized categories of personality, the jerk is very similar to that of the dark triad ; the dark triad consists of narcissism, Machiavellianism, and psychopathic tendencies (Schwitzgabel). Regardless, there are still many traits of being a jerk that cannot be seen in the dark triad (Schwitzgabel). Narcissism may regard themselves as more important than the people that surround them, but could also, unlike a jerk, strive to be the center of attention; Machiavellians believe that other people are tools to be exploited for personal gain, but in doing so are conscious to their cynicism rather than ignorant; psychopaths are often selfish and callous, with a tendency to engage in impulsive risk taking, but jerks ... Comparing Men And Women In Shakespeare s Othello Women are looked over in Othello but end up being the downfall of their male counterparts; It was Desdemona that was Othello s greatest weakness and Emilia was Iago s. This is alluding to Shakespeare being incredibly progressive in a time where women were widely renowned as objects of men. By analyzing and comparing aspects of both Emilia and Desdemona in the William Shakespeare play Othello This is illustrated in Othello by comparing the difference in the opinions between Emilia s and Desdemona s on taking and following orders from men, the double standard between men and women when it comes to human impulses and urges, and how hard a fight they will put up against a man. She continually insists Desdemona could and would never have cheated on Othello and responds to Othello s accusation of Desdemona being unfaithful by saying o, the more angle she, and you the blacker devil! The action of her referring him to a blacker devil not only associates Othello with the embodiment of all evil but also stripps him of his accomplishments by taking away his name and only speaking to his skin color. The Australian railways have utilised diesel engines for regional and freight purposes since the early 1950 s. Despite the extensive history of the diesel engine, the efficiency of the modern internal combustion process ranges between 35% 42%.[1] The losses in energy arise from heat losses and mechanical losses as illustrated in Fig 1. Figure 1. Schematic of conventional vehicle system model. Only a small percentage of energy is converted into useful work to power the wheels and other accessory loads.[2] Figure 1 indicates that a significant amount of energy is lost from the exhaust and coolant systems. Exhaust temperatures generally range between 400 900°C depending on the application. This presents a significant opportunity to recover the heat losses from the exhaust to reduce the fuel consumption. In addition to the advantage gained from the improved fuel consumption, there are other benefits such as reducing exhaust emissions and increased engine power. To effectively capture the energy lost from a diesel engine exhaust pressures, the turbocharger was implemented to boost the power of engine and thereby increasing the fuel efficiency. Locke heavily stresses the blending of labor and common land to create private property to increase one s wealth. Liberty and livelihood under Locke s theory is tied to the ability of an individual to control the use of their private property. Marx s theory strongly contends that the bourgeoisie has gained control of the profit making private properties leaving the working class in a stage of exploitation. In his theory, Marx takes a look and how private property, along with wealth, are funneled into the hands of the few leaving the ordinary worker unable to gain wealth from private property. The outcome of Marx s principle can be seen especially in the last 30 years in the US with the increase of inequality and access to wealth to unprecedented numbers (USA 11). When examining both theories about private property one cannot go without recognizing the important role that labour plays. Locke who considers labour the cornerstone of man s ability to provide upon himself and that the act itself is so important labour indeed that puts the difference of value on every thing (MPT 297). Locke s belief that every man is born into the world with an equal amount of capability with labour as the main variable determining success. Marx s writings take a look at where private property comes from and who is the beneficiary of such a product. This is where labour is introduced into his analyzes of private property and the concept of externalized labor, that is, externalized man, alienated labor, alienated life and alienated man (MPT 771). The thickness gradient structure extends from amorphous base to crystalline surface. During plasma spraying, the amorphous calcium phosphate (ACP) base is formed by rapid cooling of external molten part of flying HA spray powder particles upon impact on cold substrate. If the flying HA spray powder particles are heated in plasma jet above 1843 K, but below 1973 K, the ACP, tricalcium phosphate (TCP) and tetracalcium phosphate (TTCP) will co exist in close proximity within rapidly quenched structure [Rs]. If overheating temperatures are higher than 1973 K, the CaO will be additionally present. The CaO containing ACP phase can be considered as hydroxyl deficient phase because it is formed from a melt which has experienced the highest temperatures in plasma jet ( 1973 K) [Rs]. The ACP, TTCP and CaO produce an increase of the Ca/P molar ratio in the near interface region of the as plasma sprayed HA coatings, which is known as the Ca/P ratio gradient [Rs]. Considering the applications of HA coatings as medical implants, the thickness gradient structure is unfavorable. The crystalline surface promotes poor initial bone fixation and the ACP base imparts low structural integrity of the HA coatings [Rs]. Intermolecular forces explain why propionic acid has the highest boiling point because, the relationship between boiling points and intermolecular forces is directly proportional. The stronger the intermolecular forces, the higher the boiling point. The force of attraction between molecules is based on the polarity of the molecule. Therefore, as bonds increase in polarity, intermolecular forces become stronger. There are four main types of intermolecular forces, the strongest force, first place, is ionic bonds, second place hydrogen bond interactions, third place dipole interactions, last place London dispersion/ Van der Waals interactions. Ionic forces occur when a complete transfer of electrons takes place when one interacting atom is much more electronegative than the other, causing atoms and molecules to take on charges. Hydrogen bonding occurs when a hydrogen atom is bonded to a very electro negative atom, specifically a nitrogen, oxygen or, fluorine atom. The third strongest is dipole interactions which is a sharing of electrons also known as covalent bonding. Finally, London dispersion/ Van der ... McGregor makes the point that a command and control environment is not effective because it relies on lower needs for motivation, but in modern society those needs are mostly satisfied and thus no longer motivate. Hence, the slavery of the play and of the time is viewed as a financial or military misfortune rather than a racial inferiority which would be commonly accepted for several hundred years after the play was written. Black and slave were not interchangeable terms at the time as it was during America s early history. European slaves were commonly Tartar, Greek, Armenian, Russian, Bulgarian, Turkish, Circassian, Slavonic, Cretan, Arab, or African. As if to distance the issue of slavery even further, it was often portrayed as happening long ago or far away on the English Renaissance stage2. As Shakespeare wrote the play, feudalism was eroding, but it was still strong in the minds of the audience. Slavery is very similar to feudalism in that they both involve the lower classes being subject to higher classes. Slavery had to be distanced from the English in order to not be threatening and to reassure them ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 30. Victims Receive Restitution There are several reasons that victims are not receiving restitution. However, the primary reason is that a significant number of crimes are not reported. Nevertheless, other factors must also be considered, such as offenders not being caught or convicted and victims not going through with prosecution. Apparently, if these factors are eliminated, victims would receive reimbursements, not to mention more criminals would be off the streets (Karmen, 2010). Unfortunately, a lessened degree of knowledge by victims regarding the different programs available is an issue. Nevertheless, a lack of discipline by the victim exists, i.e. providing appropriate receipts to the Judge, insurance agency, or state, or just not filling out the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 31. African Of African American Culture There is no doubt that African Americans have a rich cultural background and history like the many different ethnic groups who settled in the New World, whose origins lie in another country. For this reason, America was known as the melting pot. However, the backgrounds of each of these cultures were not always understood or, in the case of African Americans, accepted among the New World society and culture. Americans were ignorant to the possibility of differences among groups of people until information and ideas started to emerge, particularly, the African retention theories. This sparked an interest in the field of African culture and retention in African Americans. However, the study of African American culture truly emerged as a result of increased awareness in America, specifically through the publication and findings of scholarly research and cultural events like the Harlem Renaissance where all ethnicities were able to see this rich historical culture of African Americans. There were many who became dedicated to this field of study, but two of the most predominant researchers and scholars of the African retention theories were Lorenzo Turner and Melville Herskovits. While both researchers examined different aspects of culture, Herskovits and Turner were both convinced that there was indeed African retention in African American culture and society (Wade Lewis 402). Turner specifically researched linguistic retention, while Herskovits researched many aspects of the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 32. Marc Lepine Insane Cases Throughout history, there have been many criminals who used the insanity defence to receive a fair trial, but some of of these people were not actually insane. However, in the case the 1989 Montreal massacre, Canadian journalists medicalized Marc Lepine s deviance in their writing techniques to divert the public s attention from the event. According to Horwitz (1981), the medicalization of criminal behaviour refers to the tendency to define deviance as a manifestation of an underlying sickness, to find the causes of deviance within the individual rather than in the social structure. . . (p. 750). The type of deviances that can be viewed under the term medicalization is mental sickness and child abuse. For example, some journalists referred ... These evidence proved that the offender was at the time sane when he committed murder. However, Penfold used her journalistic power to bring the issue to the public agenda from an insanity perspective. The conclusion was that these newspaper official who the public depend on for information used the medicalization of Marc Lepine s deviance to justify his actions. They constructed an ideology that the offender suffered from child abuse, therefore he was mad and sick . Health Of Kicker With Type B, Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia Kicker, a 3 year old boy, who has never been to a doctor, never received any type of shot or poke, eaten a clean, nutrient dense diet throughout his short three years and never had anything toxic on his skin, was sitting in the cold hospital room waiting for news of a diagnosis. Nurses came in and out of the waiting room, bringing in needles, advice, paperwork and machines. All of which were intimidating to a 3 year old and his mother, Season, who happened to be a holistic nutritionist. While Season felt completely broken down, she knew that she had no choice but to bring her background in nutrition to her own home. To build Kicker s immunity Season implemented The Ketogenic Diet. The human body produces cancerous cells daily, so building a strong immunity is imperative when fighting off cancer cells and the harsh chemicals from treatment. The Ketogenic Diet is a new cancer treatment, which is free, with virtually no side effects. It can also be conjoined with other cancer treatments. The diet involves cutting carbohydrates, beginning with the worst carbohydrate of all, sugar (Johnson L, 2013). It is a high fat, adequate protein, low carbohydrate diet. The diet forces the body to burn fats rather than carbohydrates. Normally the carbohydrates contained in food are converted into glucose, which are then transported around the body. However, if there are little carbohydrates in the diet then the liver converts fat into fatty acids and ketone bodies. Ketone bodies are water molecules that are produced when the body is consuming very little food, which mimics fasting. Cancer is an obligate glucose metabolizer because it fuels on sugar. One s normal cells have the metabolic flexibility to adapt from saving glucose by using ketone bodies (Johnson S, 2014). This addressed that because cancer ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 34. Women s Movement During The Civil Rights Movement The activism era was an era where different groups of people worked to change how things were seen and done in America. These people took different social issues and brought them to the front of the table to be discussed and noticed by the American people. Although many of them caused great controversy, all of the movements made a great impact on how our country is the way that is is today. The Civil Rights Movement, Women s movement, and counterculture were all different movements during the activism era, however, they were all working towards a common goal: equality. One of the most popular and successful movements of the era was the Civil Rights Movement. The Civil Rights Movement consisted of African American and white citizens wanting to get rid of discrimination in America. There were different approaches to this movement including mostly nonviolent approaches. Martin Luther King Jr. once said that Negroes had been humiliated and oppressed just for the sole fact that they were Negro citizens. This shows us what African Americans went through during that time, and it also shows us why they wanted equality. • 35. Theme Of Redemption In Gran Torino GRAN TORINO Identify critical moments in the film Gran Torino where Walt Kowalski is transformed from a racist tormented character to a compassionate father figure. Gran Torino is a film directed by Clint Eastwood, with Eastwood who is also taking on the key role as the main character and protagonist; Walt Kowalski. Eastwood plays a retired auto worker and Korean War veteran who feels emptiness in his life. His character is happiest on his home porch, beer in hand, dog his only ally, his lawn immaculate, despising the many Asian, Latino and black families in his neighborhood. However, the redemption of such a character is critical to the storyline as Walt becomes a reluctant hero, standing up to gang members who have totally unsettled his lifestyle; an attempted theft of his prized possession, a 1972 Gran Torino, sets Walt on a mission to rectify things for himself and his Hmong neighbors. Eastwood uses symbolism and cinemograph techniques to exemplify the theme of redemption. The most notable moment when Walt becomes a father figure, is when he confronts the gang at their house, just after sue was raped and beaten. The film explores the possibility of redemption, second chances , and the hope that comes from having a positive future. Both Walt and Thao experience redemption in the film. Walt is saved from the guilt of a murderous past as a soldier and the disappointment of broken relationships within his own immediate family. Ultimately, Walt finds peace with himself, with others and with God. Walt s young neighbour, Thao is rescued from a future of crime and violence, and the shame of attempted theft. Ultimately, Thao gains a future as a hard working, respectable American citizen and man. It is evident from the beginning of the movie that Walt has a hard line attitude towards the church, which is partly because of the pain and torment he experienced from Korea. Walt exhibits strong racial slurs as he had strong racial prejudices, also mainly because of the 50 s style of thinking he has and likewise from the time in Korea, as this is how they talked about them. It is symbolic as he still thought and spoke like that back after the war, showing the audience that he is still at war, not with the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

It is also one of the most controversial topics to go through the United States. From the research gene therapy to the cloning of different animals, genetic engineering can save lives while at the same time, endanger them as well. There are many pros and cons which are being heavily debated by political, scientific, and many other organizations. Most are centered on the idea of using Stem cells as a way of curing diseases. Scientists once believed that human adult stem cells could be used, but that idea was quickly put to rest when scientists discovered that the cells may be damaged by sunlight or toxins in the air, as well as the fact that adult stem cells may contain more DNA abnormalities. Stem cell research could one day lead to the cures of diseases such as cancer, Alzheimer s and Parkinson s disease (NIH, FAQ s, 1). Did you know that with the science of DNA manipulation, animal cadavers can be turned into insulin for diabetics? Back in the 80 s scientists isolated the human gene for insulin and transferred it into bacteria. Now bacteria cultures are used to produce large amounts of human insulin. DNA manipulation is especially important in medicine, where it holds the hope of curing genetic diseases such as Huntington s, and even some types of cancer. There are several major types of DNA manipulation enzymes used by living cells. The first type is DNA polymerase, which cells use to replicate their own DNA. The next type is DNA ligase, which joins 2 pieces of DNA to create a single piece. The third type is restriction enzymes, which appear to be made only by bacteria. Restriction enzymes are very important enzymes that are vital to our manipulation of DNA (Rapoza, DNA, 2). Another way of manipulating DNA is by cloning. Cloning is the production of exact copies of the original, kind of like a copying machine. With DNA molecules, cloning means putting new DNA into a ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 38. Determining the Effect of Potential Household Repellents... Introduction: The purpose of this project is to determine the effect of household substances, which contain naturally occurring ant repelling chemicals, on ant behavior. While there are many plants that chemically repel ants, this project will test if there are any household products, which contain some of the same naturally occurring repellents, which ants will avoid. This paper will first identify what plants repel ants. The herbs and plants that best repel ants are tansy, catnip, pennyroyal, peppermint, sage, coffee, and spearmint. All of these but catnip have some of medicinal use. Catnip and pennyroyal are both in the mint family. It is already known what makes catnip a repellent nepetalactone, a chemical that simulates pheromones. It is repulsive to insects, but attractive to cats. Tansy is also a repellent, and was used to repel insects as early as the 19th century. However, this is for a different reason tansy contains a volatile oil that becomes toxic when broken down. However, the components of this oil, such as 1,8 cineole, thujone, camphor, and myrtenol all have various chemical and pheromonal properties. The herb sage is more useful than tansy, but still contains many of the same chemicals cineole, camphor, alpha thujone, and beta thujone. It is highly possible that these chemicals have some sort of pheromonal effect on ants. On the other hand, there is pennyroyal repellent to ants because it contains toxic oil, mostly based on a chemical called ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The Advantages And Dilemmas Of Child Care For Children Tamai Butler Coach Beale Senior Capstone March , 9 , 2018 One of the biggest decisions parents have to make after choosing to have a child involves deciding who will care for that child, especially during the early developmental years. Parents choose to resolve this difficult dilemma in many ways. Some families choose to use full time childcare, while in other families one parent stays or works at home for all or part of the time. In other families, a parent chooses to leave the workforce completely in order to become the primary caregiver. Finding appropriate and affordable child care is often a challenge. • 41. The Field Of Development And Myself Than Ever Before Skills Learned Over the course of three months I have learned more about the field of development and myself than ever before. There were many things that surprised me, both positively and negatively, but as a whole much more in the positive realm. Having a CO OP directly in my field of study, especially as my first placement, has given me insight into what I already do well and areas for improvement, but also insight into where I see myself one day. Some of the integral skills my summer at GAC taught me were taking direction from multiple sources, stress management, and using French as a second language. Working for two teams within a branch no matter where you are working poses challenges. In my past work of fast food and retail, switching from cooking to serving or from mens to ladies fashion can be complex but nothing compared to having the responsibility of two full time government jobs in one. I would receive emails every day, multiple times a day, asking my to do what seemed like ten things per email. I learned to deal with high volumes of tasks you must identify what the person is asking and what tasks will take priority. As a student, it can be intimidating to turn down work or tell people you cannot do what they are asking. However, it is a necessity in order to get work done. Equally, being clear with superiors of what you are already working on diminishes unrealistic expectations of completion times. I found it very helpful to email multiple people that had ...
