In 2016, two academic libraries migrated from Innovative Interface’s Millennium to Ex Libris’ Alma. Though both libraries came from a similar starting point in terms of library software, their migration environments were quite different: Colorado State University’s migration involved two campuses, CSU Fort Collins and CSU Pueblo, while Central Connecticut State University migrated with a newly-formed consortium comprised of 18 institutions. Even though both libraries share the same proprietary ILS, the environmental differences between the two libraries shape their experiences throughout the migration process. The presenters will share their libraries’ unique experiences while also addressing commonalities germane to the ILS migration process such as pre-migration data clean up, data migration, training, and designing workflows. Particular attention will be paid to the data migration process that details the extraction process along with coordinating these efforts. Because Alma is designed on a different concept than III’s Millennium, the redesign of workflows is critical prior to the final cutover to the new system. In light of this, the presenters will address the engagement of staff during these discussions along with their professional growth. In addition to explaining the technical aspects of this migration, they will also delve beneath the surface of the intellectual labor required for implementation and examine the psychological impact on all constituents who will use the new system for their daily work. About the Training With the sheer number of electronic resources that the libraries are now subscribe to, acquiring accurate and timely usage statistics is crucial in providing data for collection management assessment and decision making process. NISO developed the SUSHI protocol that allow publishers to standardize their usage statistics into a common format as well as the delivery of that information. This protocol is designed to simplify and automate the harvesting of COUNTER usage reports from various electronic resources providers. This is a guided, step-by-step session that follows the April 29 NISO Virtual Conference, Expanding the Assessment Toolbox: Blending the Old and New Assessment Practices. The presenter will teach you the practical implementation of harvesting your COUNTER reports using the SUSHI protocol. You will learn what it takes to ensure you will get the benefit of this system for your institution. The 90-minute training session lead by Oliver Pesch, Chief Product Strategist and Senior Vice President, EBSCO Information Services will cover: Quick overview of SUSHI and COUNTER What do you need to harvest a report using SUSHI What information do I need to harvest a report? Where do I get the information? What other steps might be needed to successfully harvest usage? The results of the harvest is an XML file – now what? Data analysis and interpretation.

Salisbury University and the University of Maryland both undertook projects to evaluate the effectiveness of EBSCO Information Service's Usage Consolidation product and the usefulness of the data extracted for collection development decisions. The goals of implementation were to centralize the collection and analysis of e-resource usage data and to allow collection management librarians easy access to usage and cost per use data to aid in their decision-making. The presenters will discuss how staff at each institution populated Usage Consolidation and presented usage reports to collection managers; how collection managers responded to the data; and how they used the data to inform collection management decisions. Leigh Ann DePope Serials/Electronic Services Librarian, Salisbury University Leigh Ann DePope is the Serials/Electronic Services Librarian at Salisbury University. She is responsible for all aspects of serials and electronic resource management. She has serials experience in both public and academic libraries. Leigh Ann has earned her MLS from Clarion University of Pennsylvania and a BA from the Pennsylvania State University. ONS Local has been established by the Office for National Statistics (ONS) to support evidence-based decision-making at the local level. We aim to host insightful events that connect our users with exciting developments happening in subnational statistics and analysis at the ONS and across other organisations. In April 2022, as the impact of increases in the Cost of Living really came to the forefront, Public Health & Communities, Suffolk County Council published a Cost of Living profile as part of the Joint Strategic Needs Assessment. Alongside a written Cost of Living report ‘Making ends meet: The cost of living in Suffolk’, an interactive dashboard was also created using Power BI. In addition to internal data flows, publicly available data from sources such as the ONS have been used to provide a rich picture of the current situation for the local community. The dashboard was developed in order to: • Provide up to date data and information on the Cost of Living for Suffolk County Council, partner organisations, and members of the public. • Deliver an interactive tool to allow users to focus on areas most relevant to them. • Demonstrate that, while increases in the cost of living affect everyone, impact will be greatest for those who are already under financial pressure, exacerbating inequalities. • Provide a source of actionable insight to support the system with the evidence base needed to support project development, drive change and really make a difference in the community. Features of the dashboard: • Place-focused - published at smaller geographies where possible • Collaborative - Includes local data from across the system such as data shared by Citizens Advice and other system partners. • Automated - Most data sources have automated connections, meaning there is little manual intervention required. • Self-Service - Making the report publicly available puts data at the fingertips of colleagues, system partners and members of the public. • Live - The dashboard is a living report which is frequently updated. This session will: • Provide a demonstration of Suffolk County Council’s Cost of Living dashboard • Give an overview of data sources • Explore opportunities for automation using Power BI • Discuss how the data dashboard is used locally This event is open to all; however, we anticipate it will be of most interest to anyone working on cost of living dashboards at the local level. In many cases, it is a simple feat of comparing the subscription cost to the COUNTER comliant usage data, but as we look deeper, and we continue to attempt to automate this process as much as possible, we uncover complexities that make this a considerable challenge. Presented at QQML 2013: Qualitative and Quantitative Methods in Libraries International Conference. Rome, Italy. Academic libraries in the United States typically reference proxy server and/or COUNTER statistics to describe the usage of their electronic resources, but we know that a “use” is arguably more than a resource accessed or downloaded. This article employs social network analysis to bridge the typical ways of talking about usage statistics, to provide a context-specific perspective about the mediated use of electronic resources. The article reports on an analysis of data gathered at the Loyola Marymount University (Los Angeles, California) using traditional statistics as well as library reference encounters with patrons during which an electronic resource is mentioned. We use the reference encounters in a social network analysis to examine the relationship between a patron, a librarian, and an electronic resource to more fully describe the use of the resource. This research provides a conceptual model for comparison between traditional COUNTER statistics, proxy server statistics, and the social network analysis perspective. We transform qualitative data into quantitative data in order to develop a grounded theory about the mediated access to library electronic resources.
