The Kama Sutra and Class Correlation
Kama Sutra

Question: If Kama Sutra was meant for the Upper Leisure class of the Indian population, is there
any valuable content for the middle and lower class? How much of the Hinduism principles did he
retain so that the lower/middle class can learn from the text as well?
What is Vatsyayana s targeted demographic of readers when he wrote the Kama Sutra? Was it
exclusive to the leisure class of the Indian society? Or did it also include the lower class? There is
evidence that suggests that the text is biased for the aristocrats, as the practices described require
time and money that the peasants don t have. The fact that Vatsyayana is likely a member of the
elite class, deduced from his sophisticated knowledge of Hinduism and how ... Show more content

Vatsyayana explains that Kama is the enjoyment of appropriate objects, which implies that in
order to attain kama, one must have the money to take pleasure in materialistic objects. On top
of that, he organizes a list of arts that should be studied along with Kama Sutra, which include
activities that could be considered as time consuming and overly ostentatious for the lower
class. Among the many activities to do is the spreading and arranging beds or couches of
flowers, or flowers upon the ground or making artificial flowers (Vatsyayana 66). While these
activities may seem overly extravagant and absurd for the lower class as they are the working
class and wouldn t be able to afford investing their time and wealth into it, Vatsyayana
emphasizes that kama is a sense of pleasure of the five senses . . . assisted by the mind together
with the soul, (Vatsyayana 63). Therefore money and time are not necessities to obtain kama. His
assertion of how [s]exual intercourse being a thing dependent on man and women requires the
application of proper means by them . . . (Vatsyayana 63) indicates that kama could also be
acquired by physical activities, and materialistic objects are not needed. Although they are not not
able to take part in lavish pleasure like that of the upper class, the lower class population nonetheless
can gain attain kama through different means as Vatsyayana s Karma Sutra includes all four classes

Otto Schade
One of the top places in London to view amazing street art besides the Leake Street Tunnel,
Shoreditch and Brick Lane, is the colourful Camden Town. Nestled along the side streets off
Camden High Street and Chalk Farm Road you can find work from many well renowned,
international and local artists such as Otto Schade, Onesto, Pegasus and Gnasher.
Slowly succumbing to thoughtless tagging, this John Lennon piece by Gnasher was created in early
2015 and is located on Jamestown Road, painted on the side of the Oxford Arms Pub.

I still have his early work on my walls, and I am still in love with it and being inspired by it. Also,
Santjes Oomen was an artist whose work while I never acquired any lingers in my mind, and I

And, finally, I have to say the work of Philip Seymour Hoffman has inspired me tremendously. He
is more than an actor; he is an artist, and if you pay attention to the subtleties of his work, his

Environmental analysis of Honda Motor: In terms of lawful issue, the company is estimated to
hold on the laws and guidelines of the country where it works. For example, in the majority of
countries in North America and Europe, the working hours are consistent, and the workers are
only projected to work for 8 hours. What is more, employee earnings are considered per hours,
hence asking it hard for the company to maintain wages and salary. In the United Kingdom,
employment laws need companies such as Honda to pay 6.93 EURO per hour as least amount of

Replacing PE With Study Hall
I strongly disagree with replacing PE with study hall. It supports a lot of kids to have, through the
day. Study hall time will not help the students get through the day. Physical education is needed in
the students daily routine.
I think that the kids need to learn how to stay fit. The kids get shortage of exercise during their
school day. Therefor the students need to get physical movement during their day. Physical
education provides the students with varieties of workouts for the kids. The students love to go to
PE because they get to be with their friends and they get learning they need to get about their body.
Being mobile is vital to these kids they like active and they would be more alert in class.

Gender Stereotypes In The Film And Television Industry
For decades, variations of the same gender stereotypes like, boys don t cry, Damsel in distress or
You fight like a girl have been embedded in the minds of many children while growing up.
According to recent studies, 66% of children these days have watched television, and the television
viewing starts as young as 9 months old (Conrad). Children at this age have malleable minds,
which are greatly affected by these stereotypes. Therefore, genderstereotypes in the film and
television industry negatively influence children s social development. These stereotypes impact a
child s mind and changes their behaviour towards the opposite gender, lowers their self esteem, and
hinders their true personality traits.
Regardless of economic status, in countries around the world gender stereotypes have created a
sexist mindset and almost everyone has accepted them with open arms. These stereotypes cause
the tension between the genders in many ways. These ranging from young boys bullied for
having feminine traits to as extreme as women being sexually assaulted. In the famous words of
Madame de StaГ«l, The desire of the man is for the woman, but the desire of the woman is for
the desire of the man (Rowley). We can see this in all the movies where men are portrayed to be
the dominant figures who hold power over women and according to 2016 Statistics the statistics
of women as sole protagonists in the top 100 movies in 2016 were as low as 29% ( 2016 Statistics
). Not only do men

Theme Of Disease In Oryx And Crake
Disease: an unnaturally natural cure Oryx and Crake, by Margaret Atwood is a post apocalyptic
novel set in an undetermined future narrated by, Snowman, who seems to be the last true human
on earth. Although the book reads as if it is telling a futuristic tale, in reality many of the
scientific and cultural trends are drawn from our own, current society. One theme of the novel,
disease, has parallel similarities to our society and world today. Disease is woven into all
aspects of life, just as it was used in Oryx and Crake as a capitalistic weapon, a weapon of mass
destruction, and it was used as a cure. Firstly, the theme of disease in this novel has an
overwhelming existence, it is strongly linked into other themes and creates a foundation for how
the novel unravels. As with our society, big pharmaceutical companies have control over life and
death. We often perceive them as greedy, fear mongering scientists. Crake, the borderline mad
scientist at RejoovenEssence, even accuses pharmaceutical companies of inventing diseases and
cures simultaneously in order to maintain a high demand for their services, So, you d need more
sick people. Or else and it might be the same thing more diseases. New and different ones. Right?
Stands to reason, said Jimmy after a moment. It did, too. But don t they keep discovering new
diseases? Not discovering, said Crake. They re creating them. (Atwood 211) The use of disease
and the desire to be cured is nothing more than a

Among all great plays of William Shakespeare the tragedy of Othello the moor of Venice

The Scarlet Letter: The Transformation of Rev. Dimmesdale
Life is hard, but accepting that fact makes it easier. This common phrase clearly states a harsh fact
that Rev. Dimmesdale, a character in Nathaniel Hawthorne s The Scarlet Letter, had to face. In this
story of deception and adultery set in the Puritan era, Hawthorne introduces Dimmesdale as a weak
and cowardly man who refuses to take responsibility for his actions. The Rev. Dimmesdale is a
transitional character in that he is, at the beginning of the novel, outwardly good but inwardly
deceitful and by the end of the novel he becomes both outwardly and inwardly truthful.
At the beginning of the novel, Dimmesdale has established quite a reputation for ... Show more

Abandoning Hester and her illegitimate daughter Pearl also augmented his problems. Forcing
Hester to go and find work around town, an obviously hard task for a single parent. He also
abandons them emotionally and physically. He is rarely there when Hester and Pearl needed
him. Innocent little Pearl wonders why Dimmesdale is so afraid of public displays of affection,
yet when they are alone, he takes notice of her and Hester. Talking to him, Pearl asks Wilt thou
stand here with Mother and me, tomorrow noontide? (149), a question whose answer is unclear for
Pearl. In fact, the only way Hester and Pearl receive any kind of support from Dimmesdale is when
Hester threatens to tell the truth about his sins.
The fact that Dimmesdale is a hypocrite causes him to experience increased torment due to his
guilt. Dimmesdale beautifully illustrates Hawthorne s point, because if he were not such a highly
religious man, then he would not care about his crime. However, he does care, and he inflicts
torment on himself, including long periods of fasting. In addition to hours of staring at himself in
the mirror, he could also be caught numerous times in his closet, whipping himself and burning the
letter A on his chest. Or he could be seen at the scaffold in the wee hours of the morning, practicing
how he is going to confess the next day. Deluding himself by pretending that his

leaders in the fast food industry. Whether globally franchised or privately owned, each has

General Obligation bonds. This allowed us to achieve a lower costof debtthan similar taxable

Even though these products are issued as long term securities, they have many of the same features
as traditional short term ones. These debt products are both callable and puttable which gives the
issuer as well as the investor flexibility. The call feature allows the issuer to buy back the bond. For
issuers who are not sure how long they will need funds, they can get out of the agreement by
calling the bond. Same goes for the investor; they can exercise the put option and receive their
money back. In order to make these products more liquid, investment banks are used as
remarketing agents. These agents resell the bonds at new rates to other investors. However,
there is a cap on how high the rates on the bonds can be reissued at in order to limit the coupon
payments. These variable rate debts also track the JJ Kenny index. The JJ Kenny index is an
index similar to the S P 500 but for municipal bonds. Also, a synthetic fixed rate debt can be
created from combining a variable rate debt and a SWAP. Given the two proposals, the state is
faced with three forms of debt. The first form is a fixed rate option that would provide the state
with 20 year serial issued bonds with fixed
payments for the duration of the bond and callable after ten years.

Essay on The Silences in Mansfield Park
The silences in Mansfield Park reveal the nature of each character. Fanny s silences reveal her
inner self, the core of morals. They reveal that while Fanny looks like a timid, frail being but
inside she possess a set of principle that are unyielding to any outside force. Through her silence,
Fanny becomes the selfless conscience of Mansfield Park. Fanny is strong willed in her steady
continual silence. She is sole unmoving thing in a fluid, ever moving time.
Fanny grew up in a large, ever growing household, where quiet was so hard to come by. In the

solitude, the other walking trio finds her. This trio is talking about what changes need to occur
at Sotherton; they talk about movement. Fanny stays quiet in the conversation until after Mr.
Rushworth has gone to fetch a key to unlock the gate, leaving Henry and Maria as a pair. Henry
starts to tempt Maria into doing something against what her principle should allow her to do.
Fanny, feeling all this to be wrong, could not help making an effort to prevent it. (93) Fanny
begins to act as Maria s conscience, but Maria won t allow Fanny to be her conscience. She jumps
and follows Henry away from her principles like her brother followed Henry s sister.
Fanny continually remains in the background for the duration of the play. Fanny listens to each
person s opinion on what play they should perform, a comedy or a tragedy. Fanny does not add
anything to the group because she knows it to be inappropriate that a play should be performed
without Sir Thomas s consent. Edmund speaks as a part of the conscience of Mansfield Park,
saying what Fanny thinks. Even after a play is decided upon, Fanny remains silent in background
like a conscience weighing on a person s mind. After the theater troupe starts to practice the play,
Fanny helps with the sewing for the play, helping but not participating in the inappropriate act. She

The Problems with Voting in America Essay
The Problems with Voting in America
If one were to look at the voting history as of late in America you would surely find information on
the Florida catastrophe in 2000. The problem with our voting system today is in the technology
being used; many demographic groups find our current systems confusing and hard to use. As voters
step into the polling places this election year many will be voting through new devices some even
sporting touch screen technology and we can only hope that the new technology is understood and
accepted.
In the US each municipality selects their own voting equipment regardless of what other places
are doing. According to this CPSR article the Vote O Matic system has been in place for over ten

Chads are perforated and held onto by 3 spots, but often only 1 or 2 of these spots comes undone
cleanly which is known as a hanging chad. This analog manner of literally punching votes can be
very ambiguous when read by a machine. Erik Nilsson calls these machines antiques and rightfully
so, these machines have no place in polling places.
In 2000 Riverside County California decided to spend 14 million dollars to make their voting
system all electronic. This decision was made on the basis that in 1998 more than one million
dollars was spent on paper ballots (in Riverside), but when only half of the county voted the extras
had to be trashed. For local elections their new electronic system fetched a 99% approval rating
from voters (Wired.com article). The only foreseeable downside to this technology is the start up
price and with internet voting not likely due to security issues, this maybe the best solution.
Can our government trust a company enough to allow them to make our voting machines? The
answer is no. The only way electronic touch screen voting will eliminate all other methods is to
have a way to be audited. PBS states in this article that an ATM company called Diebold has their
eyes on making a sufficient voting machine, but with ATMs always printing a receipt it s likely
that receipt technology will find its way into voting. While I do believe that our future voting
machines will have to be

Structuralism. Post structuralism is a philosophical response to structuralism.
Do you agree with Rosado s definition of multiculturalism? Would you add or delete information to
/from his definition?
I do not totally agree with Rosado s (1996) definition of multiculturalism. Specifically, I don t
believe it s necessary to acknowledge a person s differences. Quite frankly, I would be horrified. I
believe it is important to give every person an opportunity based on qualifications and the needs of
the organization. Rosado (1996) also writes in his

Summary Of Margaret Mead s Coming Of Age In Samoa
In Coming of Age in Samoa, by Margaret Mead, she exemplifies and puts emphasis on the idea of
socialization through the view of the Samoan girl, and we also see what her sexuality is as she
becomes an adult and has to deal with marriage. Before reading the book I never knew that different
cultures like the Samoan cultureviewed everything in their daily lives different than how we view
it in ours. After learning about the Samoan culture in the book, it gave me a new perspective and
how to view the world around me because the book discussed key concepts I didn t expect to be
interesting.
The Samoan culture and how socialization turns into sexuality for young girls is very different
compared to our culture. In the Samoan culture sexuality in Samoan girls is seen differently
than we see it in our culture today. Margaret Mead elaborates on this idea because of how she
views the sexuality of a Samoan girl when she mentions Virginity is a legal requirement for her
(Mead 69). When Mead discusses this, it is interesting how in that culture virginity is a
requirement and that is something we don t see as a requirement in our society today. This
demonstrates how the sexuality of a Samoan girl is not the same as we see it. The way girls are
seen because of their sexuality is incomparable to girls in our society today and that s important to
observe since Samoan culture is by far very different to what we view as part of culture today. In
Samoan culture, socialization is an

Sell Your Son Samuel Analysis
Rees, you have demonstrated your love for and faith in God consistently over many years, time
and time again. You gave up the privilege of raising your son Samuel for the greater honor of
serving God in Africa, and your intercessions played a part in molding the events of World War II.
Do not give up. Keep pressing in to find and follow Gods will for your life, because He has proven
Himself faithful. When you prayed for God to raise up a Bible college to train the young
Christians of Wales, He provided the funds for you to purchase the Glynderwen property and start
the college yourself. Later, He also supplied the means to buy the Derwen Fawr and Sketty Isaf
properties, which served as an addition to the college and a home for missionaries children,

God has called you to bless the Jews, His chosen people, and He gave you this burden. He will use
your gift to remind them of His faithfulness and goodness towards them. Justice cries out on
behalf of the Jews, and in giving your gift, you will help administer justice to this persecuted
people. The third reason that you should sell your properties is that this call is God s answer.
You were praying for the money to help the Jews, and you asked God to give you their burdens.
Again, the golden rule of faith reminds you that God may choose to use you as an answer to
your own prayers. You must be willing to sacrifice of yourself and trust God, even as Abraham
did when he laid Isaac on the altar to sacrifice him. Some argue that you should not sell your
properties because the money for your gift could be provided another way. You had prayed for
the money, and you believed it would come. They say that maybe the money could come another
way, and you would not have to sell the properties. Nevertheless, God has already revealed to you
the way He has chosen to provide for the Jews, and there is no use arguing with

Modern Day Slavery And Today s Society Essay
Many times it is said that history repeats itself, but should it in cases such as slavery. Slavery has
been known as a cruel war again human nature itself, violating many basic and cherished human
rights of life and liberty, (Leary, 2015). This research paper will examine modern day slavery and
the many different aspects that play a role in carrying it out in today s society. As modern day
slaveryis defined, reasons for the cause will be noted, along with the affects, abuse of power and
rights, and possible solutions.
With many definitions of slavery out there, predominantly it can be referred to as a practice with
different elements such as: ownership of a person as chattel, loss of free will and control over
many aspects of self but especially their labor power, and control being asserted through violence,
degradation, or threat. With slavery defined, the correlation between slavery and human trafficking
of forced labor can easily be linked and observed. There is a connection of ownership of a person
as chattel where the victim loses their rule of specifically their labor power through violence,
degradation, and threats such as deportation, (Leary, 2015). Looking at modern slavery through this
perspective, there is recognition that societies, economics, and social structures do alter over time.
Slavery may remind many of some of the most sorrowful and agonizing times in the nation s
history. However, there is no denying it no matter how much some try. The term slavery

How To Put My Incapacitated Dog
On Wednesday, June 18, 2003, I had finalized the decision to put my incapacitated dog to rest. It
became a reality. I clearly remember the warm, breezy day that occurred two weeks ago. As I sat
in the freshly cutgrass of my front yard, I paid no attention to the sounds of the birds that were
singing or the leaves that were dancing on the trees. All that was on my mind was the details of
the last 13 years and remembering the times we shared together. As I kept trying to convince
myself that he would not have to suffer another day from his ailments, I kept thinking of the first
day that he came into my life. I was 15 years old when I got Valen. It was Valentine s Day
in 1990.
Earlier that week my motherwas near Port Jervis, New York on a business trip. She had some free
time before she had to come home to Pennsylvania so she decided to stop at the local SPCA. Her
intentions were to simply look at the animals and then leave. She made her way to the area that
housed the dogs. There she found a shy, but friendly, golden retriever. He was a bit apprehensive at
first, almost as if he was neglected and abused, but it didn t take much of my mom s gentle touch
and her soft, subtle voice before this dog realized she was his savior. She decided that she would
like to adopt this dog however, the policy was strict, and there was a seven day waiting period
before you could adopt an animal. This was in place to allow ample time for the owner to claim
their animals if they got astray. As much as my mom wanted to leave that day with the dog, she
had to wait. It was on Tuesday, February 13, 1990 that my mom received a call from the SPCA.
They were pleased to have the opportunity to offer her the dog through adoption since no one had
come forward to claim him. She decided that she would go back to New York the next day to pick
him up. On Valentine s Day, I got home from school and to my surprise I was greeted at the door
by this vivacious, brown eyed golden retriever. I was so excited and I immediately sat down on
the cold, ceramic floor and played with my new friend. We rolled all over the floor and I was
giggling as he licked my face, and at the same time, he was whimpering with happiness. We did this
for about an hour until I

Difference Between Hiring A Professional
Graphic Design
Many assume that the only difference between hiring a professional to handle graphic design and
doing the work on their own is the price. Nothing is further from the truth, as the average person
doesn t have the skills needed to create a professional image, one that truly reflects the business
and its values in a positive light. A professional design goes above and beyond attracting the
attention of the viewer. It provides a call to action, encouraging the viewer to purchase the product
or service, yet many don t recognize this. They assume a logo or another design is nothing more
than a symbol of the company, but it is much more, and our designers understand this.
With the help of professional graphic design, companies find it easier to share their message with
the customer. Individuals continue to be bombarded by advertising messages everywhere they
look, and a professional design helps to attract attention in a crowded field while also providing the
customer with information about the company. Although these may not seem of importance to the
average person, technical aspects such as bleeding and cropping do play a role in the customer s
perception of the brand. They don t realize this, but it is truly the case. Our team of graphic
designers is familiar with these and other techniques and use them where appropriate to convey the
desired message.
Most importantly, graphic design involves more than creating a logo. Layout and production design

Effective Assessment For Exceptional Ebd Students
Effective assessment for exceptional EBD students
A best practice for assessment is a process of addressing the emotional and behavioral concerns of a
student. In short, the student would be referred to a Response to Intervention Team (RTI) to
determine what school based supports and or interventions could be put into place to help the
student. If the interventions are not successful, then the student can be referred for EC evaluations
to determine if they are in need of special education services. The referral for the special education
process should occur within 90 days. If a student is determined to be eligible for special education
services, then an Individualized Education Plan (IEP) is developed. An IEP is individualized;

Response to intervention
Response to Intervention (RTI) according to Kauffman and Landrum (2013) is a multi tiered
approach for the early identification and support of students with learning and behavior needs. The
RTI process begins with high quality instruction and collective screening of all students in the
general education classroom. Struggling learners are provided with interventions at growing levels
of concentration to speed up their rate of learning. These services may be provided by a variety of
personnel: (e.g.: including general education teachers, special educators, and specialists). The
progress is carefully monitored to evaluate both the learning ratio and level of performance of each
individual student. Educational decisions around the concentration and time of interventions are
based on the individual students response to instruction. RTI was designed for use when making
decisions in both general education and special education classrooms, creating a well integrated
scheme of instruction and intervention guided by student outcome data.
For RTI implementation to work well, the following vital components must be executed with
fidelity and in a rigorous manner:
пЃ®High quality, systematically based classroom instruction: (e.g.: all students receive high
quality, research based instruction in the general education classroom).
пЃ®Ongoing student assessment: (e.g. :)

The Consequences Of Revenge In The Film Fist Of Fury
Instead of having a real fight in movie, movie directors tend to prefer throwing fake punches in
order to ensure the safety of actors and actresses. But those fake punches have become one of the
least exciting part of the movie. When watching a long fighting scene, audiences would become
less and less engaged and sometimes shift their minds to other things instead of the movie. In the
movie Fist of Furydirected by Lo Wei, an almost six minutes fake fighting scene consisted of main
character Chen Chen fighting twenty evil Japanese makes many audiences wonder the necessity of
this part of the movie. These days, unlike those acted out fighting scenes in movies, the real fight
like the century match between Mayweather and Conor McGregor tends to draw more interest
from people. But what is the root cause of this phenomenon? And if people are less enjoying the
fighting scene, is the fighting scene of Fist of Fury really necessary?
Having the background of Shanghai being invaded by many foreign countries including Japan in
1908, the movie Fist of Fury describes the story of how people s hero Chen Zhen earns dignity
for his fellow Chinese who are oppressed hard by foreign powers through seeking revenge for his
mentor from evil Japanese. In one of the sequences of the movie, finding out that his mentor is

The Consequences and the Extinction of Animals By Climate Change
The warnings about global warming have been extremely clear for a long time. We are facing a
global climate crisis. It is deepening. We are entering a period of consequences (Al Gore). Global
warming is a nationwide problem that is affecting people and the environment by the greenhouse
gases. Global warming increases the atmospheric temperature. For instance, the solar radiation is
reflected by the Earth s atmosphere. Earth s surface absorbs most of the radiation, and it warms it.
Part of the invisible light traverses the air. A few are immersed and transmitted in an outright
direction by pollutants molecules. The effect of global warming is an increased temperature of the
earth s surface and the lower atmosphere. According to the National Oceanic and Atmospheric
Administration (NOAA) which measures long lived greenhouse gases increased 37 percent from
1990 to 2015, and of that, carbon dioxide accounted for 80 percent of the increase (Keating 2). The
greenhouse gases are causing that the temperatures rise. Global warming is a huge problem that we
face today; it is caused by the greenhouse effect that leads to climate change and the extinction of
many animals.
Global warming is increasing the temperatures in our planet Earth leading to climate change. The
primary reason for global warming is the human development of the greenhouse effect causing

Congress continues to push away the idea of passing this act from the NAIFA. The NAIFA is

Apathy And Its Effects On Society
Apathy Indifferent. Detached. Desolate from any kind of emotion. This is how one feels when
apathy sneaks its way into their brain. Everything they have ever felt becomes a vague and distant
memory, a vast void. There is nothing that can be done, so it seems to the individual. This leaves
him/her quite helpless. And more often than not, the phrases I don t care! , Why does it even
matter? , and It isn t important are overlooked and are labeled rebellious. But should those phrases
not spark a greater concern? It must be terrifying to view a humanbeing who carries on their lives
with lassitude. Whether or not they know wrong from right, their lack of care and concern
instigates negative consequences from loved ones and society. When one is empty of emotions,
there is nothing stopping them from doing wrong, but there is certainly nothing stopping them
from doing right. The notion that apathetic human beings need supervision, due to fear, needs to be
reevaluated. This concern for those with apathymust be aimed at the reason why. This way,
individuals will have a greater understanding of a realm that is so vastly hollow. Half way

However, in reality, his actions did cause a rebellious and traitorous portrayal of himself in the
eyes of the English Canadians, Orangemen and the Federal Government. One such act was the
execution of Thomas Scott an aggressive man who was an ally of Dr. John Schulz and
threatened Riel s life. This execution demonized Louis Riel and was a severe miscalculation
that eventually led to Riel s exile a mistake due to the result of the execution being spread to
Ontario, where it angered many (including John A. Macdonald who sent troops to Manitoba
forcing Riel to flee to the USA). Another reason that depicts Louis Riel in a negative light is the
insanity plea given by Riel s lawyers at the Regina trial in 1885. During Riel s 15 years of exile
in Dakota (USA), he formed a strong, almost psychotic belief that he was the prophet of the New
World and believed the Metis were his chosen people. Louis Riel was admitted into a lunatic
asylum in 1873. The judge and jury of the 1875 trial described him to be sane and punished
according to that description. Also, Louis Riel was tried for high treason the federal government
wanted him hanged, the Ontarians wanted Riel punished and the Quebecois wanted mercy for
his noble cause of defending his people. The charge of high treason is deserving, in the opinion
of many, because Riel did lead two rebellions (Red River and NorthWest) which led to increased
tensions and death. Though absurdly, Riel never fired a bullet in the rebellions he only prayed and

How To Pull An All Nighter Compare And Contrast
A piece of writing has little meaning if the overall topic is not compared to another work. In fact,
any object in the world has this same philosophy. A golf ball, for example, has individual detail to
it, but when compared to a basketball, it has an entirely new meaning and description. This concept
is also appropriate when reading and analyzing literature. Whether this literature is analogous or
extremely disparate to another, the reader s perspective shifts. After reading How to Pull an All
Nighter, by Joshua Piven, David Borgenicht, and Jennifer Worwick, and The Economist s Higher
Education: Not What It Used to Be, I quickly noticed an interesting juxtaposition between the two.
The first is a basic how tothat illustrates staying awake for the entire night. Whereas the second
informs the reader about pressing issues concerning fiscal matters of college. Many books and
articles such as these possess elements that help compose a unique piece of writing, including the
intended audience, layout, and the ultimate purpose. Comparing and contrasting these two readings,
some characteristics appear to be shared while others create a definite divergence between the two.
There are often numerous fundamental components of writing that shapes the general frame of the
work. How to Pull an All Nighter exemplifies these essential qualities. To begin with, the article was
published in 2004 and had three writers collectively contribute to the text. This nonfiction

Voter Id Laws Examples
We are currently in the midst of a historical presidential election. People are rallying in mass
numbers behind their presidential candidates, and come election time, they hope to have their
candidate s supporter s turnout to vote. However, other forces such as voter ID laws may already
be hindering their candidate chances by leading to a decrease in voter turnout rates. Thus,
historically speaking, voter ID laws have been prevented and appealed because of a specific
provision in the VotingRight Act of 1965. However, in 2013 the United States Supreme Court
repealed Section 4 of the Voting Rights Act. This specific provision laid out how any changes a

In addition to that, understanding how voter ID laws may impact election results, will in return,
contribute to the efforts that aim to understand the agenda behind the recent and rapid spread of
such laws. Thus, if my results are what I think they will be then voter ID laws will be known for
what they really are, an attempt at voter oppression. Moreover, there certainly are limitations to this
research proposal. For instance, while this research should present some insight into the impact of
voter ID laws, the fact remains that there is a limited number of election results that could
demonstrate the true range of impact that voter ID laws have on voter turnout rates. Therefore,
future research will be able to benefit from the increased volume of data on election results, and in
return perhaps be able to build on the results of this study. In addition to that, since I have a short
time window for this project, certain variables that might influence and also be contributing to
lower voter turnouts will be left

Synthetic Life Essay
The creation of synthetic life forms: the science, benefits, risks and ethics.
The creation of a synthetic life form is the production of an artificial autonomous self replicating
organism under in vitro conditions from biochemicals. Synthetic life experiments and creation of
synthetic cells gives us an unparalleled insight into the origin of life, the fundamental genes and
essential genetic functions required for life and may someday allow the manipulation of the roles of
cells and organisms to benefit humanity and the environment. Advancements into synthetic life
remain a controversial topic among today s leaders in bioethics, pioneers in the synthetic biology
field and the general public. They also raise the heated issue in today s society about biosecurity.
The creation of synthetic life is encompassed by two fundamental disciplines, synthetic biology and
synthetic genomics. Although it is challenging constricting synthetic biology to a singular
definition it is best broadly described as an aims to design and engineer biologically based parts,
novel devices and systems as well as redesigning existing, natural biological systems. (The Royal
Academy of Engineering, 2009). Synthetic genomics however has been defined succinctly from
genetic engineering as the chemical synthesis of DNA, the manipulation and assembly of genes,
gene pathways or whole genomes via computational techniques, allowing the synthetic design of all
the chromosomes. (Montague, Lartigue and Vashee,

Management Functions Within The Operations Management Essay
Sustaining Operations
When a 9.0 magnitude earthquake hit the coast of Japan, no one would think any business in its
path could survive such a tragedy. Nissan was able to survive the devastating effects of this natural
disaster by having a plan to sustain operations. In order to sustain operations, it is essential to
explore the use of process management functions within the operations management (OM)
processes. Nissan was impacted by the earthquake, but fortunately they were able to explore the use
of process management and incorporate them into operations management (OM) functions. Nissan
has been able to use key advantages from three different operation theories: Just in Time (JIT),
Toyota Production System (TPS), and Lean Production as well as integrate concepts such as triple
bottom line, ISO 14000 standards, and incorporate corporate responsibility principles to maintain
sustainability into their operations.
Nissan has incorporated theories such as Just in Time (JIT), Toyota Production Systems (TPS), and
Lean production into their OM functions. JIT is a process that focuses on supply chain
management to reduce carrying costs by having supply provided and output produced exactly when
they are needed (Linton, 2016). JIT emphasizes forced problem solving, which is one JIT s biggest
advantages. This allows Nissan to focus on the problems, ultimately reducing inventory and cutting
variability and waste. Nissan implemented JIT prior to the earthquake catastrophe,

Economics Of Latin Americ Costa Rica
Jonathan Boyd Kayla Delgado Teral Hillard 04/21/2015 Economics of Latin America: (Costa
Rica) Costa Rica is bordered by Nicaragua and Panama in the Northwest part of Latin America.
The population is 4.77 million as of December 2014, with an unemployment rate of 10 percent.
The currency for Costa Rica is the Costa Rica Colon (CRC) and the exchange rate to the dollar is
539.3 2014 CRC per US dollar (WFB). Although their economy is growing, with a 5 percent
growth rate in 2006, Costa Rica s public infrastructure has been a huge problem for many years
(Trading Economics, 2015). It suffered from a lack of maintenance and new investment. The
country has an extensive road system of more than 30,000 kilometers, and although much of it is in
disrepair, most parts of the country are only accessible by road (U.S. Department of State, n.d.). In
the past, Costa Rica has relied heavily on their presidents to change the way the country works. Jose
Figueres was probably the most impactful on Costa Rica in terms of making it easier for the state
intervene in the economy. Costa Rica has gone through much change throughout its existence in our
history. An estimated 400,000 Indians inhabited the land when Christopher Columbus explored its
country in 1502 (Anywhere Costa Rica, n.d.). However, initial attempts at colonizing in the 16th
century proved unsuccessful due to a combination of factors, including disease from mosquito
infested swamps, brutal heat, resistance by natives, and pirate

Independence Movement of Brazil and Mexico.
If revolutionary movement is defined as a social movement dedicated to changing the power or the
organizational structures by an independence movement, and if most is defined as greatest,
successful as a desired outcome and original rationale and/or purpose is defined as an fundamental
intentional reason, then between the countries of Braziland Mexico, Brazil had the most successful
revolutionary movement in terms of its original rationale and/or purpose because Brazil, unlike the
Mexican independence movement, had a greater universal agreement about independence between
every social class, Brazil was politically stable after independence and it was economically stable
after independence.
Before Mexico gained independence from ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The war of independence was not a lopsided contest with a foregone conclusion; it was, rather, a
struggle in which the nation was divided into loyalties and in which the final outcome was not
inevitable; it was a revolutionary civil war (Bethell 70). In Brazil independence was in universal
agreement between all social classes, since Brazil was only split into two classes, due to their
unique system that allows a slave to earn his freedom and make a living. Because of its system
of clientele and patronage, the racial and social tension present in Mexico was less severe in
Brazil, which is why Mexico had a dissenting agreement on the matter of independence. The
support for independence was in concordance from both sides of these social classes of Brazil.
Acting with the support of the Brazilian aristocracy, who were anxious to preserve their
considerable landholdings from which they exported sugar, coffee, and cotton, and with the
backing of the British, who were eager to monopolize the trade with Brazil, the monarch moved to
secure Brazil s autonomy (Meade 74). The slave populations as well as the Brazilian aristocracy
were in full support of independence, creating a national bond on the subject. Lower class blacks
and mulattoes saw independence as a step towards eliminating the racial discrimination that
prohibited their appointment to administrative positions (Viotti da Costa 8). Since the idea of
independence was not fully

Today, in this complex business environment where all business enterprises are surviving by
realizing maximum profits possible, there exists a mechnism called Corporate Social Responsibility
(CSR) that is providing the required edge towards success. Corporate social responsibility (CSR) is
the way a corporation achieves a balance among its economic, social, and environmental

Law lists fair operations of a business in a democratic society and hence, the economic missions
of corporations must land within the framework of law. Legal responsibilities are codified ethics
established by lawmakers that legitimizes the conduct of a business, when adhered to.
Furthermore, Carroll lists down few components that suffices the legal responsibilities of a
business organization; perform in consistent with expectations of government and law, compliance
with all regulations, to be a law abiding corporate citizen, fulfilling its legal obligations leads to a
firm to be successful and meeting minimal legal requirements when providing goods and services.

economic responsibilities (Figure 1).
* Ethical Responsibilities: Ethical Responsibilities include activities and practices that are
expected or prohibited by societal members even though they are not codified into law. Ethics or
values may be reflected in laws or regulations but ethical responsibilities enfold emerging values
and norms that society (consumers, stakeholders, employees and the community) expects of

Similarities Between Egypt And Greek Art
Over the years of art history, there are many great empires that we think of and two of those were
ancient Greek and Egyptian. When talking about Greek and Egyptian art history, it is the sculptures
that come to mind when you are comparing and contrasting artworks. Egyptian art and Greek art
both had mesmerizing sculptures but Egyptian art was more oriented towards religion and Greek
art was more focused on philosophy. The Egyptian statueof the Menkaure and a Queen was similar
to the Greek statue of Metropolitan Kouros in their posture but both of these statues also had many
differences. Menkaure and a queen statue was created from an unusual stone and the statue was
discovered in Menkaure s valley temple. The sculpturehas a hard texture and because of the time
consuming task of polishing this sculpture was never completely polished. So, the sculpture is
greywacke and has traces of red paint on king s face, ears and neck because male figures were
traditionally painted red and there are traces of black in queen s hair. The sculpture itself is 54 ВЅ
inches in height and is displayed in the Museum of Fine Arts, Boston. Metropolitan Kouros was
created from marble which seems like it has a rough and hard texture. The statue is 6 feet in height
and is displayed at the Metropolitan Museum of Art, New York.
During early dynasty Egypt period, Egypt s kings were reverted as gods in human form. So,
Egyptian sculptor created statues of their kings and queens. After creating the statue

Comparing the Economic Performance of South and North Korea
Introduction An economic system of a county is a system for producing, distributing as well as
consuming goods and services. It includes a combination of various agencies, institutions, entities
and consumers, which constitute the economic structure of a particular community, or society.
Both North and South Korea have different economic systems. Collectivist Economy Collectivist
economy is a type of economy which advocates for collective control over production, as well as
distribution. It puts a lot of emphasis on collective action rather than individual action. Another
name for collectivist economy is communism economy. Apart from North Korea, other collectivist
economies include Japan and Indonesia. Economic System in South Korea The economic system of
South Korea is a capitalist economy. This is where the economy is characterized by free markets, as
well as the absence of government intervention with regard to the country s economy. One of the
key characteristic of a capitalist economic system is the ability of firms and private individuals to
accumulate capital and property in the economy of a country. In reality, capitalist economic system
will require some government intervention, mainly to protect private property. Capitalist economic
system in South Korea is a self supporting and does not need government intervention and
implementation. This is because of the private sector and private ownership running the economy.
This system enables the participating

Single Mom Budget Essay
Finances are the Achilles heel of any single parent household. As a single mom you must learn to
properly budget all your expenses. To successfully deal with money in a household with children
takes considerable skills and energy. But that doesn t mean that it isn t possible.
It is especially tough on moms who have been stay at home moms until now. Suddenly you have
become the sole provider and even an accountant of sorts.
Well, budgeting isn t difficult. You just need to be really careful and document where the money is
coming from and where it is going and in no time you will have it all under control.
Manage your Cash Flow
A budget is simply a plan. It covers all your expenses and money being earned. You can have a
monthly or a weekly ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
It s the expenses that need your special attention. The best way to add them up is to think of two
separate things. First in your single mom budget plan are the fixed expenses. Round up all the
utility bills of at least the past 6 months and see how much you spend on electricity, water and
telephone bills every month. Then tally up the credit card bills.
Then account for your monthly expense on gas, food and groceries. Items that are variable
expenses including clothing and entertainment. These all must be accounted for in your budget. But
expenses incurred on all these things can be cut back with a little imagination.
Here, it is important that you have kept receipts and records of everything. Or else you will need to
spend a couple of months saving them up before you can start building a successful single mom
budget.
Save It Like You Mean It!
Entertainment expenses are the most frivolous of all and should be the first ones to go. Instead of
going to the movies with the whole family, rent out a DVD and make it a fun experience with some
homemade popcorn. Look for entertainment in unconventional ways. For example, a walk around
the corner or to the local park with your kids and your pet is sometimes a very fulfilling experience

Noreen Rahman Review
The two videos that I watched were program service manager and project manager. For program
service manager I watched Noreen Rahman s video. She is the program services manager at Girls
Incorporated in Orange County. The steps she took in order to get started in her career include her
starting to work at different high schools, junior highs, and detention facilities. She learned about
agencies doing similar work and she found Girls Inc. She applied a month after she graduated from
UCI and became a teen programfacilitator at Girls Inc. About a year later she was promoted to a

from Northrop and contacted her and got a job at Universal. He worked there for a while and
then got into Eastman Kodak Company. Through that company he was introduced to Walt

He then became the project manager of Disney. His major was mechanical engineering. I do
think my major will partially determine my career because I want be able to use the knowledge
I acquired in college in my career. After watching these videos I realized that the major I pick
doesn t 100% determine my career. My major can help me in my career, but I can pick a career

  • 2. The Kama Sutra and Class Correlation Kama Sutra
Question: If Kama Sutra was meant for the Upper Leisure class of the Indian population, is there any valuable content for the middle and lower class? How much of the Hinduism principles did he retain so that the lower/middle class can learn from the text as well? What is Vatsyayana s targeted demographic of readers when he wrote the Kama Sutra? Was it exclusive to the leisure class of the Indian society? Or did it also include the lower class? There is evidence that suggests that the text is biased for the aristocrats, as the practices described require time and money that the peasants don t have. The fact that Vatsyayana is likely a member of the elite class, deduced from his sophisticated knowledge of Hinduism and how ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Vatsyayana explains that Kama is the enjoyment of appropriate objects, which implies that in order to attain kama, one must have the money to take pleasure in materialistic objects. On top of that, he organizes a list of arts that should be studied along with Kama Sutra, which include activities that could be considered as time consuming and overly ostentatious for the lower class. Among the many activities to do is the spreading and arranging beds or couches of flowers, or flowers upon the ground or making artificial flowers (Vatsyayana 66). While these activities may seem overly extravagant and absurd for the lower class as they are the working class and wouldn t be able to afford investing their time and wealth into it, Vatsyayana emphasizes that kama is a sense of pleasure of the five senses . . . assisted by the mind together with the soul, (Vatsyayana 63). Therefore money and time are not necessities to obtain kama. His assertion of how [s]exual intercourse being a thing dependent on man and women requires the application of proper means by them . . . (Vatsyayana 63) indicates that kama could also be acquired by physical activities, and materialistic objects are not needed. Although they are not not able to take part in lavish pleasure like that of the upper class, the lower class population nonetheless can gain attain kama through different means as Vatsyayana s Karma Sutra includes all four classes and has retained the four main ... • 10. Gender Stereotypes In The Film And Television Industry For decades, variations of the same gender stereotypes like, boys don t cry, Damsel in distress or You fight like a girl have been embedded in the minds of many children while growing up. According to recent studies, 66% of children these days have watched television, and the television viewing starts as young as 9 months old (Conrad). Children at this age have malleable minds, which are greatly affected by these stereotypes. Therefore, genderstereotypes in the film and television industry negatively influence children s social development. These stereotypes impact a child s mind and changes their behaviour towards the opposite gender, lowers their self esteem, and hinders their true personality traits. Regardless of economic status, in countries around the world gender stereotypes have created a sexist mindset and almost everyone has accepted them with open arms. These stereotypes cause the tension between the genders in many ways. These ranging from young boys bullied for having feminine traits to as extreme as women being sexually assaulted. In the famous words of Madame de StaГ«l, The desire of the man is for the woman, but the desire of the woman is for the desire of the man (Rowley). • 11. Theme Of Disease In Oryx And Crake Disease: an unnaturally natural cure Oryx and Crake, by Margaret Atwood is a post apocalyptic novel set in an undetermined future narrated by, Snowman, who seems to be the last true human on earth. Although the book reads as if it is telling a futuristic tale, in reality many of the scientific and cultural trends are drawn from our own, current society. One theme of the novel, disease, has parallel similarities to our society and world today. Disease is woven into all aspects of life, just as it was used in Oryx and Crake as a capitalistic weapon, a weapon of mass destruction, and it was used as a cure. Firstly, the theme of disease in this novel has an overwhelming existence, it is strongly linked into other themes and creates a foundation for how the novel unravels. As with our society, big pharmaceutical companies have control over life and death. We often perceive them as greedy, fear mongering scientists. Crake, the borderline mad scientist at RejoovenEssence, even accuses pharmaceutical companies of inventing diseases and cures simultaneously in order to maintain a high demand for their services, So, you d need more sick people. Or else and it might be the same thing more diseases. New and different ones. Right? Stands to reason, said Jimmy after a moment. It did, too. But don t they keep discovering new diseases? Not discovering, said Crake. They re creating them. (Atwood 211) The use of disease and the desire to be cured is nothing more than a ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

This common phrase clearly states a harsh fact that Rev. Dimmesdale, a character in Nathaniel Hawthorne s The Scarlet Letter, had to face. In this story of deception and adultery set in the Puritan era, Hawthorne introduces Dimmesdale as a weak and cowardly man who refuses to take responsibility for his actions. The Rev. Dimmesdale is a transitional character in that he is, at the beginning of the novel, outwardly good but inwardly deceitful and by the end of the novel he becomes both outwardly and inwardly truthful. Innocent little Pearl wonders why Dimmesdale is so afraid of public displays of affection, yet when they are alone, he takes notice of her and Hester. Talking to him, Pearl asks Wilt thou stand here with Mother and me, tomorrow noontide? (149), a question whose answer is unclear for Pearl. In fact, the only way Hester and Pearl receive any kind of support from Dimmesdale is when Hester threatens to tell the truth about his sins. The fact that Dimmesdale is a hypocrite causes him to experience increased torment due to his guilt. Dimmesdale beautifully illustrates Hawthorne s point, because if he were not such a highly religious man, then he would not care about his crime. However, he does care, and he inflicts torment on himself, including long periods of fasting. In addition to hours of staring at himself in the mirror, he could also be caught numerous times in his closet, whipping himself and burning the letter A on his chest. Even though these products are issued as long term securities, they have many of the same features as traditional short term ones. These debt products are both callable and puttable which gives the issuer as well as the investor flexibility. The call feature allows the issuer to buy back the bond. For issuers who are not sure how long they will need funds, they can get out of the agreement by calling the bond. Same goes for the investor; they can exercise the put option and receive their money back. In order to make these products more liquid, investment banks are used as remarketing agents. These agents resell the bonds at new rates to other investors. However, there is a cap on how high the rates on the bonds can be reissued at in order to limit the coupon payments. These variable rate debts also track the JJ Kenny index. The JJ Kenny index is an index similar to the S P 500 but for municipal bonds. Also, a synthetic fixed rate debt can be created from combining a variable rate debt and a SWAP. Given the two proposals, the state is faced with three forms of debt. The Problems with Voting in America Essay The Problems with Voting in America If one were to look at the voting history as of late in America you would surely find information on the Florida catastrophe in 2000. The problem with our voting system today is in the technology being used; many demographic groups find our current systems confusing and hard to use. As voters step into the polling places this election year many will be voting through new devices some even sporting touch screen technology and we can only hope that the new technology is understood and accepted. This analog manner of literally punching votes can be very ambiguous when read by a machine. Erik Nilsson calls these machines antiques and rightfully so, these machines have no place in polling places. In 2000 Riverside County California decided to spend 14 million dollars to make their voting system all electronic. This decision was made on the basis that in 1998 more than one million dollars was spent on paper ballots (in Riverside), but when only half of the county voted the extras had to be trashed. For local elections their new electronic system fetched a 99% approval rating from voters (Wired.com article). The only foreseeable downside to this technology is the start up price and with internet voting not likely due to security issues, this maybe the best solution. Can our government trust a company enough to allow them to make our voting machines? The answer is no. The only way electronic touch screen voting will eliminate all other methods is to have a way to be audited. Summary Of Margaret Mead s Coming Of Age In Samoa In Coming of Age in Samoa, by Margaret Mead, she exemplifies and puts emphasis on the idea of socialization through the view of the Samoan girl, and we also see what her sexuality is as she becomes an adult and has to deal with marriage. Before reading the book I never knew that different cultures like the Samoan cultureviewed everything in their daily lives different than how we view it in ours. After learning about the Samoan culture in the book, it gave me a new perspective and how to view the world around me because the book discussed key concepts I didn t expect to be interesting. The Samoan culture and how socialization turns into sexuality for young girls is very different compared to our culture. In the Samoan culture sexuality in Samoan girls is seen differently than we see it in our culture today. Margaret Mead elaborates on this idea because of how she views the sexuality of a Samoan girl when she mentions Virginity is a legal requirement for her (Mead 69). When Mead discusses this, it is interesting how in that culture virginity is a requirement and that is something we don t see as a requirement in our society today. This demonstrates how the sexuality of a Samoan girl is not the same as we see it. The way girls are seen because of their sexuality is incomparable to girls in our society today and that s important to observe since Samoan culture is by far very different to what we view as part of culture today. You gave up the privilege of raising your son Samuel for the greater honor of serving God in Africa, and your intercessions played a part in molding the events of World War II. Do not give up. Slavery has been known as a cruel war again human nature itself, violating many basic and cherished human rights of life and liberty, (Leary, 2015). This research paper will examine modern day slavery and the many different aspects that play a role in carrying it out in today s society. As modern day slaveryis defined, reasons for the cause will be noted, along with the affects, abuse of power and rights, and possible solutions. With many definitions of slavery out there, predominantly it can be referred to as a practice with different elements such as: ownership of a person as chattel, loss of free will and control over many aspects of self but especially their labor power, and control being asserted through violence, degradation, or threat. With slavery defined, the correlation between slavery and human trafficking of forced labor can easily be linked and observed. There is a connection of ownership of a person as chattel where the victim loses their rule of specifically their labor power through violence, degradation, and threats such as deportation, (Leary, 2015). Looking at modern slavery through this perspective, there is recognition that societies, economics, and social structures do alter over time. Slavery may remind many of some of the most sorrowful and agonizing times in the nation s history. However, there is no denying it no matter how much some try. The term slavery ... I clearly remember the warm, breezy day that occurred two weeks ago. As I sat in the freshly cutgrass of my front yard, I paid no attention to the sounds of the birds that were singing or the leaves that were dancing on the trees. All that was on my mind was the details of the last 13 years and remembering the times we shared together. As I kept trying to convince myself that he would not have to suffer another day from his ailments, I kept thinking of the first day that he came into my life. I was 15 years old when I got Valen. It was Valentine s Day in 1990. Earlier that week my motherwas near Port Jervis, New York on a business trip. She had some free time before she had to come home to Pennsylvania so she decided to stop at the local SPCA. Her intentions were to simply look at the animals and then leave. She made her way to the area that housed the dogs. There she found a shy, but friendly, golden retriever. He was a bit apprehensive at first, almost as if he was neglected and abused, but it didn t take much of my mom s gentle touch and her soft, subtle voice before this dog realized she was his savior. She decided that she would like to adopt this dog however, the policy was strict, and there was a seven day waiting period before you could adopt an animal. This was in place to allow ample time for the owner to claim their animals if they got astray. As much as my mom wanted to leave that day with the dog, she had to wait. It was on Tuesday, February 13, 1990 that my mom received a call from the SPCA. They were pleased to have the opportunity to offer her the dog through adoption since no one had come forward to claim him. She decided that she would go back to New York the next day to pick him up. On Valentine s Day, I got home from school and to my surprise I was greeted at the door by this vivacious, brown eyed golden retriever. I was so excited and I immediately sat down on the cold, ceramic floor and played with my new friend. We rolled all over the floor and I was giggling as he licked my face, and at the same time, he was whimpering with happiness. We did this for about an hour until I ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Difference Between Hiring A Professional Graphic Design Many assume that the only difference between hiring a professional to handle graphic design and doing the work on their own is the price. Nothing is further from the truth, as the average person doesn t have the skills needed to create a professional image, one that truly reflects the business and its values in a positive light. A professional design goes above and beyond attracting the attention of the viewer. It provides a call to action, encouraging the viewer to purchase the product or service, yet many don t recognize this. They assume a logo or another design is nothing more than a symbol of the company, but it is much more, and our designers understand this. With the help of professional graphic design, companies find it easier to share their message with the customer. Individuals continue to be bombarded by advertising messages everywhere they look, and a professional design helps to attract attention in a crowded field while also providing the customer with information about the company. Although these may not seem of importance to the average person, technical aspects such as bleeding and cropping do play a role in the customer s perception of the brand. This execution demonized Louis Riel and was a severe miscalculation that eventually led to Riel s exile a mistake due to the result of the execution being spread to Ontario, where it angered many (including John A. Macdonald who sent troops to Manitoba forcing Riel to flee to the USA). Another reason that depicts Louis Riel in a negative light is the insanity plea given by Riel s lawyers at the Regina trial in 1885. The charge of high treason is deserving, in the opinion of many, because Riel did lead two rebellions (Red River and NorthWest) which led to increased tensions and death. Moreover, there certainly are limitations to this research proposal. For instance, while this research should present some insight into the impact of voter ID laws, the fact remains that there is a limited number of election results that could demonstrate the true range of impact that voter ID laws have on voter turnout rates. Therefore, future research will be able to benefit from the increased volume of data on election results, and in return perhaps be able to build on the results of this study. In addition to that, since I have a short time window for this project, certain variables that might influence and also be contributing to lower voter turnouts will be left ... • 43. Synthetic Life Essay The creation of synthetic life forms: the science, benefits, risks and ethics. The creation of a synthetic life form is the production of an artificial autonomous self replicating organism under in vitro conditions from biochemicals. Synthetic life experiments and creation of synthetic cells gives us an unparalleled insight into the origin of life, the fundamental genes and essential genetic functions required for life and may someday allow the manipulation of the roles of cells and organisms to benefit humanity and the environment. Advancements into synthetic life remain a controversial topic among today s leaders in bioethics, pioneers in the synthetic biology field and the general public. They also raise the heated issue in today s society about biosecurity. The creation of synthetic life is encompassed by two fundamental disciplines, synthetic biology and synthetic genomics. Although it is challenging constricting synthetic biology to a singular definition it is best broadly described as an aims to design and engineer biologically based parts, novel devices and systems as well as redesigning existing, natural biological systems. (The Royal Academy of Engineering, 2009). Synthetic genomics however has been defined succinctly from genetic engineering as the chemical synthesis of DNA, the manipulation and assembly of genes, gene pathways or whole genomes via computational techniques, allowing the synthetic design of all the chromosomes. Management Functions Within The Operations Management Essay Sustaining Operations When a 9.0 magnitude earthquake hit the coast of Japan, no one would think any business in its path could survive such a tragedy. Nissan was able to survive the devastating effects of this natural disaster by having a plan to sustain operations. In order to sustain operations, it is essential to explore the use of process management functions within the operations management (OM) processes. Nissan has been able to use key advantages from three different operation theories: Just in Time (JIT), Toyota Production System (TPS), and Lean Production as well as integrate concepts such as triple bottom line, ISO 14000 standards, and incorporate corporate responsibility principles to maintain sustainability into their operations. Nissan has incorporated theories such as Just in Time (JIT), Toyota Production Systems (TPS), and Lean production into their OM functions. JIT is a process that focuses on supply chain management to reduce carrying costs by having supply provided and output produced exactly when they are needed (Linton, 2016). JIT emphasizes forced problem solving, which is one JIT s biggest advantages. This allows Nissan to focus on the problems, ultimately reducing inventory and cutting variability and waste. The war of independence was not a lopsided contest with a foregone conclusion; it was, rather, a struggle in which the nation was divided into loyalties and in which the final outcome was not inevitable; it was a revolutionary civil war (Bethell 70). In Brazil independence was in universal agreement between all social classes, since Brazil was only split into two classes, due to their unique system that allows a slave to earn his freedom and make a living. Because of its system of clientele and patronage, the racial and social tension present in Mexico was less severe in Brazil, which is why Mexico had a dissenting agreement on the matter of independence. The support for independence was in concordance from both sides of these social classes of Brazil. Acting with the support of the Brazilian aristocracy, who were anxious to preserve their considerable landholdings from which they exported sugar, coffee, and cotton, and with the backing of the British, who were eager to monopolize the trade with Brazil, the monarch moved to secure Brazil s autonomy (Meade 74). The slave populations as well as the Brazilian aristocracy were in full support of independence, creating a national bond on the subject. Lower class blacks and mulattoes saw independence as a step towards eliminating the racial discrimination that prohibited their appointment to administrative positions (Viotti da Costa 8).
