1. Images – There are roughly around fourteen images across the spread, all of these
of a variety of shapes and sizes. Nearly all of the left page is filled with images of
different artists; Bring Me The Horizon, Palma Violets, David Bowie and numerous
other artists. Some of the images are in performance and others are clearly posed.
The only pictures that look as though they were taken in the studio are the ones of
Biffy Clyro and David Bowie, the remaining images look like they were taken at
concerts or outside. Several of the images are boxed inside of squares but there are
a few images which are cut outs and go over the top of the boxed images. With
every single image spread out across the two pages, there are small boxes with
captions briefly explaining what is going on. The text goes well with the images but
doesn’t add much as the audiences focus and their attention is primarily on the
images.
Articles – Each of the articles have the exact same layout in a way that
creates consistency with the theme and the colour scheme of the rest
of the magazine. The page number is shown to the left of each
subheading in a grey/black or red box with a white number inside. The
short title of the story is in a red, being the same red that the letter ‘Q’
standing for the magazine, is in. The whole colour scheme is very
consistent whilst also creating an informal atmosphere of the magazine.
Layout – The overall layout and presentation of this particular contents page is filled
with a lot of pictures and writing but is also not too overcrowded. I think that this is
done to create a sense of fun and relaxation surrounding the magazine instead of
just the formalities. The main focus of the audience’s attention is on the left page as
this is where all of the pictures and main subheading of ‘2013 Q magazine long-
range forecast’ is in the very centre. It’s clear that this is the page that the magazine
wanted the audience to see first and focus on the most because it has a lot more
information but with less words. The entire page makes it seem more interesting
and entertaining with all of the images.
Sections – On this contents page the sections which are used are; Cover
Story, Regulars, Features and Q Review/This Month. Underneath each
of these sections there are between one and seven subheadings
written in red then with a brief description underneath these but
written in black.
Other Considerations – There are no headers or footers used at all, instead several
of the images reach from both heights of the page. Again with this style of contents
page, there is no actual band index but it does mention what bands and performers
are in this issue. On top of this the cover story has it’s own section which is actually
the very first thing mentioned on the double page spread. Also, in the bottom right
hand corner there is a small subscription box with a small copy of the issue, this is to
appeal to the audience in hope that they will continue to read and purchase the
magazine.

2. Images – Over the two pages there are eight pictures (plus the ‘subscribe’
box in the bottom right hand corner). All of the pictures used are quite big
and there are only two, of Adam Ant and Noel Gallagher which are
actually a studio shot. It’s clear that the rest of pictures are taken during
performance or in the moment. Although the majority of images aren’t
taken in the studio, in most of them the artists are still posed in a certain
way; like the photo of Ellie Goulding. Just like the other Q magazine
contents page this one also has small captions accompanying each image
which gives a short description of what's going on in the picture. None of
the pictures overlap one another, they are all considerably spread out
which makes the whole double page look very spacious.
Layout – For this particular double page contents spread, the layout actually
overlaps quite a bit, especially in comparison to both of the other contents
pages. The main attention is put onto the pictures of the contents pages as
they’re all considerably large and all have quite a lot going on in them which
keeps the audience’s attention. Across the double page, it looks very
professional but at the same time quite informal and relaxed. I think that this is
exactly what the magazine is going for in the sense that they want to be taken
seriously and have all of the information that people look for in a music
magazine but at the same time want their audience to be entertained whilst
reading.
Sections – As this cover is also from Q magazine, this one does have the same
sections as the previous contents page, these being; Cover Story, Regulars and
‘Q’ Review/ This Month. There is only one article underneath cover story as
there is only one main story which is featured on the front cover. Whereas there
are sixteen more articles under ‘Regulars’
Articles – The brief heading for each of the articles is in red which is the exact
same colour as the main colour scheme of rest of the magazine and is the only
actual colour (aside from white, black and grey) which is used throughout the
entire magazine. The page number is in a white font in a small red box, always to
the left of the story.
Other Considerations – As one of the sections listed on the double feature
spread is all about what the cover story actually is, it’s very clear and easy to find
what is on the cover of the magazine if that was the reason behind a customer
buying it. there are no headers footers or (again) no band index. This is quite
strange as the majority of music magazine usually include a band index on the
contents page to let the audience know who is featured in which issue.

3. Images – This particular Contents Page has about ten different images
spread out on it, including a picture of the cover of this issue in the upper
right hand corner. The biggest image on the pages is a full body one of
Cheryl Cole which highlights her importance and that she is the main
feature in this issue. All images except for one are boxed, this could be to
keep a sense of organisation for the most part. However, none of the text
on the two pages is boxed but all of it looks specifically placed and the
same font is used just in different colours and sizes. Surprisingly all of the
images apart from one don’t actually have captions or any details about
them on the image. They do however all have a very large page number
highlighting where to find that specific story if it is in interest to the
audience. The page numbers also stand out from whatever the image is, a
lot as they are in contrasting colours to the ones used in the image.
Layout - Different to the layout of the very first magazine contents page, the left
page of this one is noticeably spread out and almost looks quite bare due to the
white background of the main image used. However the presentation of the right
page is a lot more packed with the usual amount of pictures used, as in the first
two contents pages.
Articles – Very similar to the two previous magazine contents pages, this double
page spread also has the subheading of each article in upper case black font with
a red bar dividing this and the short description in lower case black font directly
underneath this. However in this issue there are no page numbers in boxes
instead they are much smaller and right next to the main heading.
Sections – Again this Q contents page also has; Cover Story and Regulars as well
as the Q Review; consistency is clearly a big aspect in this particular brand of
magazine. It also has one briefing underneath being the cover story as well as
various more stories below each of the other headings.
Other Considerations – The very first category on the contents page is stories
that were featured on the cover so it’s clear and easy for people to find the
stories that they wanted to read from looking at the front cover. There isn’t really
any social media sites that are featured on the magazine but this could be
because the style and type of music is quite alternate and so advertising social
media could be viewed as too main stream for the type of audience they are
trying to appeal to. Whilst there isn’t a band index featured on the page, across
the double page there are a lot of pictures and/or headings announcing the
bands that are presumably featured in this particular issue. There are also no
headers or footers used on the double spread as images stretch from almost the
top of the page to the very bottom of it.
