The box is placed right in the right hand corner
therefore it is the last thing the person will see before
they turn the page. This is clever as it means it will be
in the readers mind as they read on and therefore it is
more likely they will subscribe once they’ve read the
contents of the magazine. The bright colours also
make it stand out and more inviting.
Editorial Pillars
The stark contrast between the bright yellow banner and
the editorial pillars in black with the yellow writing
contrast yet compliment each other and make the pillars
stand out. The font is also very bold and the use of all
capitals differentiate the pillars and the article titles.
Issue date/ Number
By placing the issue and date number right by the title,
it is a clear place the reader will see and also by placing
it at the top it stands out ad makes it clear that its
important information of the magazine.
Page Numbers
The red by contrast to the black and yellow prevents the
numbers from getting lost within the page as they are quite
small
Article Title
The bold font used allows the titles to stand out in comparison
to the normal font used to describe the actual article itself.
Using the name of well known bands also means readers can
immediately see what articles they will be most into depending
on their taste in music and bands.

Editor’s Note
Placing the editors note at the bottom before
the subscription box it allows the reader to
read an insight into the magazine edition as a
whole before further reading the actual
articles. Also before someone buy the
magazine the reader can pick up the copy and
flick to the contents page and read whether or
not they will be interested in the edition.
Promotion/ Competition
The large image in reference to a competition
suggests the readers are into things such as
competitions. By placing it on the contents
page is means more people will see it and also
more readers will be engaged in the
competition. The contrast of the red
compared to the predominantly yellow and
black page allows it to stand out and since the
word in red is a band, it draws their fans to
the feature further.

3. Issue/ Date
Placing it in the left top corner along with the
magazine title it is the first thing the reader
sees and therefore they can see this
information and then move swiftly onto the
content as opposed to having it later on in the
eye flow path whereby it would break up the
fluency of the page by breaking up the
contents of the magazine with information
about the magazine not necessarily the most
important information to the reader.
Editorial Pillar
Strangely, this particular magazine only has
one pillar and it consists of the main features
only. The simple layout however reflects on
the very relaxed format of the magazine
however and the constant change of format
further adds to the appeal to the target
audience who are young and prefer changes
and less consistency.
Page Numbers
Keeping with the black, white and blue theme,
the blue stands out from the black
background whilst still being able to
compliment the white article titles. The
consistency means the page as a whole is very
easy to read and engage with compared to if
there was a busy colour scheme that didn’t
work so harmoniously.
Article Title
The bold, caps lock titles for the articles again
mainly consisting of band names means the
reader is easily able to see what pages they
want to read and what articles will be most
engaging to them. The short sentence below
each article also allows the reader to see
within seconds if the articles will be worth the
read.
Pull Quote
The use of a strong pull quote invites and
entices the reader to know more and also to
understand what the article is about more.
The contrast of the black writing on the white
background allows it to contrast from the rest
of the page which is dark with a light
background.
DPS Preview Image
The image is very fitting to the colour scheme
of the black, white and blue allowing the
whole page to flow well. By using the image
as the background it also prevents the page
looking too “boxy” and stagnant.

Again, the red allows the numbers to stand
out on a busy page and also it keeps it’s
consistency through out the page as there are
small elements of red in order to let certain
information stand out.

The many divisions in the content means it’s
easier to establish what sort of information
the reader is wanting to read and they’re able
to find this information easier in comparison
to the previous contents page with very little
article information.
Article Title
As seen in all other magazines, the articles are
in bold capital font in order for it to stand out
well against the what can be a very busy page.
Date
No issue number is given showing that the
reader is likely to be a very loyal customer
who doesn’t need to see issue numbers as
they are up to date on the magazine. The date
may be shown as a reference to the latest
issue instead. Again it’s put at the top in order
to no let it disrupt the rest of the page and the
contents.
DPS Preview
Even the image used fits the colour scheme of
the page with the black and red showing the
magazine spent a long time choosing the
correct image in order to show consistency
throughout all their magazines and the
contents. The bold font used it the same as
the editorial pillars and therefore makes it
stand out as much as the pillars which are
important in a magazine. The use of the red
establishing the page makes it easy for the
reader to navigate to the correct page if this is
the article they have been wanting the read
particularly.
Subscription Box
As seen in previous magazine contents pages,
the subscription box is placed at the bottom
of the page in order for it to be one of the last
things the reader sees. It is also in contrasting
colours with the black background and the
yellow writing. The use of saving also entices
the reader to subscribe as the offer is put in
bold with all the needed information there as
well meaning it isn’t hard to subscribe either.
