How Cool Is Interpreted By Black Jazz
This essay will identify and examine what cool is and the ways in which the notion of cool is
interpreted, reflected and exploited in the entertainment business. Each of these areas will be
addressed individually. The early meanings of cool were described primarily as anti caring, pro
drug and anti authority. The notion of cool originates from a slang used by black jazz musicians
and within the last 30 years; the term cool has evolved towards a subculture and the concept of
cool is mainly related to today s youth culture (Runyan, Noh Mosier 2013, p. 323). It is used to
identify something as up to date, stylish or innovative. Thus, based on a persons emotions or
feelings about objects or ideas and if we relate it to people, cool becomes more ephemeral; a
status of sorts (Hamley 2014). Researchers discovered that the dominant perception of coolness
is revolving around social desirability and generic semi gentrified traits (Nye 2012). The notion
of cool is frequently changing and it is not developed by a personality trait, more a group
perception (Gerber 2012). The term cool is often used in marketing to young consumers. Their
buying behaviours can affect the success or failure of a new business (Runyan, Noh Mosier 2013,
p. 326). Businesses often express autonomy through advertising headlines and slogans: Stereosonic
( Summer is coming ), Apple ( Think Different ) and Disneyland ( The happiest place on earth )
because young consumers have a desire to enhance

Summary Of Trisha BrownВґs Topping Dance Critique
Topping dance , was an article written by Trisha Brown and La Ribot during mid march of 2003.
Trish Brown performed at the Fabric Workshop and Museum in Philadelphia, an event titled It s a
Darw/Live Feed. This performance was a collaboration with the Department of Modern and
Contemporary Art of the Philadelphia Museum of Art. Brown s performance was a hybrid of
improvised danceand automatic drawing that would be witnessed live by an audience placed in a
separate space in the museum, where they could watch a live video feed. Reading this article, I
found it very interesting while also kind of difficult at some points. Having the discussion in class
helped me to better understand Brown s intention of her performance. On page 72, is it... Show

To keep track of both one must look up and down and sideways simultaneously. While Trisha
Brown is dancing the gaze and attention is produced within an excessively parergonic space. When
reading this part of the article, I related this to how dancers use projection or text while also
dancing and performing on stage. Depending on the performance and the use other art techniques,
the specific work could get distracting. When putting dance and projection together, making sure
the performance and projection match is important. As the audience is watching, each specific
work could get distracting where the audience will choose whether to watch the projection or the
dancing. It is a challenge when using multi media things because the nature of video, our eye pulls
to it no matter how interesting the performers are on stage. Olivia also mentioned while we were at
ACDA, the adjudicators spoke about how they were so distracted by some of the spoken words
within the dances because it was overpowering. They got lost with the movement because they
were so focused on the words. In our discussion on Wednesday, Taylor mentioned that on page 75,
Brown s movements and actions created a visual kinetic troubling brought about by her constant
creation, redistribution, and mobilization of multiplying vanishing points . Right before

Four Corporate Strategies Of HTC Corporation
The organization that I picked is HTC Corporation which is a multinational firm situated in Taiwan.
The organization was built up in the year 1997 where it began as a unique equipment producer and
design maker, designing and fabricating devices, for example, cell phones and tablets (Anonymous,
2016). For the previous years, the organization has been in operation; it is driven by their inventive
thought which has empowered it to make an upper hand over different electronics organizations.
The principle business opponents for HTC Corporation are Samsung Corporation which makes and
markets distinctive assortments of electronics like Smartphones, Televisions, Laptops and Tablets;
Apple Company specializes on iPhones and Techno Company. These organizations have offered a
stiff rivalry henceforth the need to have a steady organization structure and also great advertising
techniques to improve competitive edge (Edwards, J., 2014).
1.Which of the four multinational strategies is the MNE pursuing?
HTC Corp. will adhere to its strategy of offering medium to high cost telephones, despite the fact
that it has been attempting to contend in that price range in the midst of the expanding
predominance of Apple Inc. also, Samsung Electronics Co. (Luk, L. what s more, Poon, A., 2012).
HTC, producer of cell phones, reported they re not straying from the value based pricing strategy
that HTC says underpins their brand image and are pronouncing they won t offer cheap cell phones

The United Nations Relief And Rehabilitation...
In 1943, the United Nations created a relief organization called the United Nations Relief and
Rehabilitation Administration (UNRRA). This organization was used to fight famine and disease
that was occurring in Europe after World War II. The UNRRA focused on bringing relief to
European civilians, and it was rendered unwelcome and disbanded after the Europe divided into
two zones: the West and East. However in 1946, there was a large demand for a relief organization,
and so the United Nationsdecided to constitute an emergency group focusing on aid for children.
UNICEF was created in 1946 to provide emergency food, clothing and healthcare to children in
countries that were destroyed during WWII. It was created to solve the food and medical crisis
after the War in the European countries involved and those that were devastated in the War.
Eglantyne Jebb, a British reformist, founded the Save the Children International Union, SCIU,
which pressured the United Nations to start a group that specifically worked with children
suffering from the trauma and aftermath of war. Also, U.S. army filmmakers created a film that
shows the amount of destruction war does and how much it affects children. This film raised
$200 million for welfare work, and so the UN proposed to use this money to provide relief to
children in a new organization called UNICEF. So, the Collective Action problem it intended to
solve was that: After WWII, UNICEF was created to provide food, clothing, and medical aid

Impact of Social and Emotional Learning (SEL) Programs on...
Preparing students for life success, requires a balanced education that includes social and emotional
education. It is important that families, schools and communities come together to achieve this.
This article is researching the positive effects, of social and emotional learning of students in
kindergarten to eighth grade. This article summarizes three reviews of research on the impact of
social and emotional learning (SEL) programs on elementary school and middle age school
students. These programs promote social and emotional skills (Weissberg, Taylor, Schellinger,

This study was done again to see if social and emotional learning still had positive effects on
children. The study asked these questions; (a)What skills, attitudes, behaviors and academic
outcomes do SEL programs achieve for elementary and middle school (K 8) students? (b) Do SEL
program effects endure over time? (c) Are SEL programs effective in school and after school and
for students with problems and without problems and (d) What features are associated with highly
effective SEL programs? (Weissberg, Taylor, Schellinger, Payton, Pachan, Dymicki and Durlak,
2008). The study used a meta analytic approach. The study was broken down into three reviews;
The Universal Review, The Indicated Review and The After School Review (Weissberg, Taylor,
Schellinger, Payton, Pachan and Durlak, 2008) .
The Universal Review included 180 school based studies involving 277,977 students. The strategy
involved classroom programming, which were a set of lessons that sought to develop social and
emotional skills such as problem and feeling identification, goal setting, conflict resolution
strategies and interpersonal problem solving skills (Weissberg, Taylor, Schellinger, Payton, Pachan,

Shaping A Christian Worldview Essay
One of the ongoing struggles for the church and Christianity is with culture. Questions have always
surfaced about where we should stand on issues or whether it is permissible to isolate ourselves in
all areas of life. Shaping A Christian Worldview suggests that hiding is not the preferred option,
rather it is our duty to transform our modern culture. To do this we must be closely positioned with
Scripture. Accomplishing this keeps the Christian grounded and does not give secular culture
undue stature. Jesustaught that the salt of believers transformed by the gospel would alter the
world. This idea means that contemporary Christians must be discerners of truth in our time. Since,
the process of transforming culture requires that we know what needs to be changed and what does
not. Godhas entrusted us with duty to help transform under the comprehension of Biblical claims....

God s mandate included instructions relating to the stewardship of His creation. The Bible says,
God blessed them and said to them, Be fruitful and increase in number; fill the earth and subdue
it. Rule over the fish in the sea and the birds in the sky and over every living creature that moves
on the ground (Gen. 1:28). Man, being created in God s image, is to subdue and to form a
culture. The textbook rightly points out the secularism and pluralism dominates many aspects of
this worldly culture. This has been reflected in many different ways. Much of America has lost
belief in a divine creator, which has moved us down a path of no foundation for order. Second,
modern thought has instilled a sense of individual achievement and a loss of a moral conscience
where our moral norms are absent of religion. Finally, as we have progressed in modern society,
these effects have lead to a fragile secular

Essay on Schindler s List
Schindler s List
Schindler s List is one of the most powerful movies of all time. It presents the indelible true story
of enigmatic German businessman Oskar Schindler who becomes an unlikely saviour of more
than 1100 Jews amid the barbaric Nazi reign. A German Catholic war profiteer, Schindler moved
to Krakow in 1939 when Germany overran Poland. There he opens an enamelware factory that, on
the advice of his Jewish accountant Itzhak Stern, was staffed by Jews from the nearby forced
labour camp at Plaszow. Schindler s factory prospered though his contacts with the Nazi war
machine and its local representatives, as well as his deft skill on the black market. Then, somewhere
along the way, Schindler s devotion to self interest was ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
To think that this self centred man would become known for a shining moment of salvation for so
many is almost beyond belief. Oskar Schindler is not a humanitarian or a force for ?good? in the
typical sense. He is depicted within the film as a man that simply found himself in a unique
position and rose to the occasion. Evil on the other hand, is epitomised throughout the film by the
actions of those involved in the Nazi regime, in particular Amon Goeth who was in charge of the
forced labour camp at Plaszow.
However, emotion is not only conveyed through the actions of the main characters. Colour also
has a significant impact on how good and evil is portrayed within the film. Perhaps the most
moving image in Steven Spielberg?s epic, Schindler?s List, condenses all of the sadism of the
Nazi regime into one small pictorial area. One of only four colour images in a black and white film
spanning over three hours, the little girl in a red coat, making her way, aimless and alone through
the madness and chaos, compels Schindler?s attention during the liquidation of the Jewish ghetto.
Schindler identifies with the child, the plight of the little girl touches him in a way the sheer
numbers make unreal ? this image transforms the faceless mass around him into one palpable
human being. This figure serves as a moral reawakening for Schindler, his conscience consequently
kicks into gear. The poignant yet subtle musical score also adds to the haunting atmosphere created
by the

Bilingualism Essay
Our culture, our traditions, our languages are the foundations upon which we build our identity.
Unknown. The concept of bilingualism represents several different ideas, two writers share their
personal stories about learning being immersed into the English culture and learning the language.
They both share their views of what Bilingualism means to them personally and make arguments
about the importance of the concept. According to Martin Espada s essay, The New Bathroom
Policy at English High School, bilingualism represents a sense of self identity, a passion and love
for speaking two languages, and the ability to embrace and preserve another culture. Espada has a

What they want to do is also retain their own language, culture, and identity. (9 10). By retaining
their own culture and learning English they are able to participate in both cultures. Martin Espada
also argues that cultural aggression causes diversion amongst communities and Spanish speakers
receive unfair treatments due to suspicion and fear from non Spanish speaking people. Violence
and bullying were often seen between communities of Spanish and Non Spanish speakers.
Between the communities of Spanish and Non Spanish speakers the presence of violence and
bullying lingered and effected the pEspada writes about one of his encounters with an angry man;
He can rip out my tongue if he wants. But it won t work because I speak Spanish with my heart.
(7). This aggression leads to hate and conflict between cultures in our community, however; Espada
believes that bilingualism can unite and solve the conflict. Another reason a divide between groups
is present that many non Spanish speakers have superstition towards Spanish speakers. Many
Anglos assume that the only reason Latinos speak Spanish is to say diabolical things (Page 8,
Line 121). This fear of the Spanish language leads to a ban of Spanish at schools, a drive to make
English the official language of Massachusetts, and other discriminant actions against

Nerolin was prepared with a mixture of methanol, 2 naphthol, potassium hydroxide (KOH), and

Nerolin crystals were obtained by way of gravity filtration and vacuum filtration in a successive
manner. The nerolin crystals were further analyzed to show purity of the experimental product by

this experiment, 6.44% of nerolin crystals were recovered, with a melting point measured as 33

The Book Of Alice B. Toklas By Gertrude Stein
The Modernist writers were all about finding their own identity. There are those who were
struggling to find their own because they were close to the modernists that expressed it. Through
experimentation they were able to find an identity that they were comfortable with. Gertrude Stein
found a voice when she wrote about her life from the point of view of her partner Alice B. Toklas.
When it comes to writers talking about themselves they couldn t help but use the words and
actions of their own characters, to create an idea of experimenting that they are unable to reveal
about themselves or others that hey might have known. They are shadows of who they once
were, but create a new identity under those experiments. The idea of being a shadow of someone
else s identity helps shapes their own but, also the identity of the people that take on as they
experiment with finding themselves . The Autobiography of Alice B. Toklas by Gertrude Stein
is one of the most known works by the author. It is often seen as a simple read as compared to
the rest of her works. Stein s works are often seen as experimental. The Autobiography of Alice
B. Toklas could be seen experimental as well, because she wanted to tell her story from the
perspective of her partner through the eyes of her partner Toklas. In the first chapter of the book,
it may be the only thing that gives a voice to Toklas herself. Before the full introduction to Stein
herself besides the talk of paintings and a coral brooch,

The Characters Of Achilles Heel In The Trojan War
Achilles Heel
By Casiano, Joshua A.
Keiser University
Achilles Heel
It is said in Greek mythology Achilles was amongst the bravest of warriors in the Trojan War
(The Editors of Encyclopædia Britannica, 2017). When he was only a baby Thetis dipped
Achilles in the waters of the River Styx. By which he became invulnerable, except for the part of
his heel by which she held him ((The Editors of Encyclopædia Britannica, 2017). Achilles had no
blaring weakness and almost seem to be invincible. Until one day he was shot by a poison arrow
in his Achilles tendon. This shows that even the legends we inspire to be have their very own
weaknesses. We use the term Achilles heel today as an analogy to our own short comings. For
me it seems as though routine imaging, ability to work with a portable, and eagerness to learn are
my strengths. Even though I would consider myself a great warrior literally and metaphorically. I
also have my fair share of short comings or in this case Achilles heel. My lack of complete
understanding of technical factors, patient positioning, and special views have become my
weaknesses.
To start with being able to take routine imaging is one of many building blocks to become a great
tech. Routine images at times can become a little mundane after doing 30 of them in a row.
However, it s also really easy to mess up by not centering correctly, changing the technique after
you have left the room causing the collimation to close, forgetting to place a marker on the

Advantages And Disadvantages Of Tribals
ii.Problems of assimilation with the non tribal People: The indigenous people of the Dooars were
the Koch Rajbanshis, the Mech, the Rabhas and the Lepchas. They were well dependent on their
traditional village economy of agriculture, hunting, fishing, and forest based economy. After the
introduction of tea plantation in Dooars, the planters encouraged the immigration of the Nepalese,
and then the tea planters decided to bring labourers from the Santal Parganas and Chhotonagpur
plateau. In the second part of nineteenth century, a large number of tribal people mainly of Oraons,
Santals, Mundas and Malpaharis in migrated to the Dooars. Again after the partition of the country
in 1947, and emergence of Bangladesh in 1971, streams of immigration or infiltration from East
Pakistan and Bangladesh occurred in the areas. The immigrated Bangladeshi people occupied a
vast areas in almost everywhere. Thus the Dooars grew into a new hub of multi racial and multi
lingual people, and of course, this led the demographic and cultural environment to be too complex
for the future.
iii.Loss of Control over Natural Resources: Before coming of the British, the tribals enjoyed
unhindered rights of ownership and management over natural resources like land, forests, wildlife
water, soil, fishes etc. Indigenous peoples have an intuitive relationship with nature, a wealth of
traditional knowledge, and have used natural resources for their livelihood. But, after the
introduction of plantation

Egypt Pyramid Be In Triangle Essay
Why Must The Egypt Pyramid Be In Triangle? An Arab proverb has once said, man fears time,
yet time fears the pyramids. People are always no match for the time, as the time pass by, people
are getting older, and may have already walk to the end of life. However, pyramids seem timeless.
They had to go through four thousand years at least, and approximately hundred and seven of them
are still extant in the world without much damage or erosion. As is known to all, the Egypt pyramid
has four triangle sides with a quadrilateral base. Due to the structure issue, and ancient Egyptian
belief, the Egypt pyramid shouldn t be any other shape but the triangle. Life in ancient Egyptwas

This concept was fully applied in their pyramid. First of all, the whole entire pyramidal
represents the worship to their sun god, Re. Since the fourth dynasty, the Egypt kings considered
themselves as the son of Re, and this title became the most important elements of their official.3
Therefore, when they had to build the pyramid, they will choose the plateau with the high
elevation since they thought they could have the closest contact with the sun god in there. The
side of the pyramid is an ascending triangle, which represents the element of fire, illumination ,
and energy. Whereas the wide base is symbolic of congregate, struggle, and fight, meaning
everyone was trying to get themselves out of the lowest level of the society.4 In another side,
some Egyptologists believe, the pyramid had the sloping side, so the dead pharaoh could
symbolically climb up to the sky and live forever. Since the life in this world is temporarily, but
the afterlife is eternal. All of those representations indicate the importance, and expectancy of their
afterlife, as well as the loyalty to the god. No one will ever bother to waste time and effort on a
tomb to design the shape and metaphor behind, but ancient Egyptian If the shape had been changed,

Once again. Ordinary, it was. She was way behind schedule today.
I m going to be late anyways. There s only 10 minutes left until my first class. Why don t I just

After a jiff, she came to a conclusion that it was better to just stray around the streets and stay as a
stray cat roaming around for food all day and all night, instead of somehow managing to peak in
the window of her house and hide there. Until her paws were worn out and showed a dim grey
color, she felt hopeless, afraid of how she will be able to survive those upcoming days.
Katharyn wandered around her apartment compound; starting from her house. Then, sudden
feeling of hunger came across. She walked down to the grocery to pick up any traces of food.
Katharyn eventually managed to find a leftover fish bone that she dug out in the trashcan near the
store. To appease her hungry stomach, she licked it carnivorously, and as she was afraid that
someone else would come and steal it, she chewed it in a rapid speed. Katharyn s stomach was not
even close to being full, but she knew she couldn t do anything about it. She was satisfied by the
fact that she at least stopped herself from growling horrendously.

One of the biggest controversies in the United States education system is whether or not full
inclusion should be practiced in all schools. There are various reasons why people are for or
against full inclusion. The Learning Disabilities Association of America (2012) defines full

nature or the severity of the disabilityand need for related services, receive their total education

More often than not, elementary aged students refer to the special education students as the mental
ones. Although children do not intentionally negatively judge their peers, the segregation in school
systems makes them believe that is why they are separated. Batchelor and Taylor stated, Social
interaction within the peer culture is the basis from which friendships develop (Guralnick, 1981),
and is an important medium through which language, cognitive and social learning takes place
(Guralnick 1981; McEvoy Odom, 1987) (p. 1). Students need social interaction with their peers in
order to make friends and develop social skills. When students with disabilities are all in one room
together, they are not being exposed to the people they will talk to in the real world, and therefore
will not develop proper social skills. When regular education students are integrated with students
with disabilities, they become much more accepting of people with differences. They make new
friends and learn how to accommodate for those who need extra help. Keeping children separated
plays a role on the reputation and mental health of those with disabilities. Abrams, Hogg, and
Marques (2005) stated, Whereas the experience of inclusion is frequently accompanied by positive
emotions, the experience of being excluded typically leads to negative emotions, including sadness,
loneliness, jealousy, anger, shame, and anxiety (Baumeister Tice, 1990; Leary,1990) (p. 64).
Children are not born with hatred in their hearts. They are accepting of everyone until they are
taught to hate. Keeping students with disabilities separated from students without them is teaching
students that they are different and one group is more capable than the other. Students with
disabilities begin to

Rhetorical Analysis Of Black Power
Stokely Carmichael (aka Kwame Ture), was the first person to coin the slogan Black Power in
reaction to a shooting of a civil rights activist provocatively on June 16th, 1966. Ture originally
brandished the term in an unclear way, so both his supporters and critics can find their own
interpretation of the meaning. Black Power was described as a way for black peoplein this country
to unite, to recognize their heritage, to build a sense of community. It is a call for black people
to get to define their own goals, to lead their own organizations to resist the racist institutions and
values of this society, said by Ture and Charles V. Hamilton in a book called, Black Power: The
Politics of Liberation. Although the term was used as a sense of power, to whites it was a sign of
a revolution for violence and hatred towards white supremacy.... Show more content on

Black Power is not meant to degrade white people, it s meant to equalize both by reversing
discrimination and racism that is already put into place. Although many people can display
many feelings of racism, racism itself is not based on feelings. Racism is a system of oppression
perpetrated by an entire group, civilization, country, etc. So to say blacks do not have any such
power to oppress whites on a scale large enough to be deemed racism and their lies in the issue.
Black Power is not racist; it is a slogan for those voices that aren t always

Because I Could Not Stop For Death Housman Analysis
Death is quite scary thought isn t it? After all, it is a subject many people don t like to talk
about. We all fear death in some ways, such as losing a loved one, not knowing if they re still
happy and even not knowing what might come after death. Regardless of how we all feel on such
a sad matter, it is truly inevitable and we must all accept it. If we begin to look at deathin a more
beautiful way and not so sinister, we can have a better understanding. In the two poems, Because
I Could Not Stop For Death by Emily Dickinson s and To An Athlete Dying Young by A.E.
Housman while the theme differs, they are much alike in some ways. Emily Dickinson s poem,
Because I Could Not Stop For Death gives me a sense of peace when it comes to death. The
theme portrays death as a easy, peaceful ride when one passes away. The overall metaphor here
is comparing death to a carriage ride. She describes death as a calm person, and she seemed to
trust him as he took her through the town to her death, It felt like she was getting one last ride to
say goodbye and let go. The line We slowly drive He knew no haste gives death... Show more

Housman is very sentimental and really touches me. The theme throughout the poem is clear,
that an athlete well known throughout a seemingly small town passed out. Any one that is a
athlete will make a connection with this poem, because I certainly did. The line And silence no
worse than cheers makes me feel a connection to a person i don t even know, I can imagine the
crowd cheering on the person and how quiet it must be the day he or she dies. Another line from
the poem says it withers quicker than the rose this is metaphor for how the cheerfulness of the
town withered away after such a great loss. The overall theme is very heartbreaking, the complete
opposite of how I felt reading Emily Dickinson s poem. Reading this I really felt like I was a part of
the town that lost such a young

Scarlet Letter Outline
Ah, but, let her cover the mark as she will, the pang of it will be always in her heart (Hawthorne
49). The Scarlet Letter by Nathaniel Hawthorne tells the story of Hester Prynne, a woman living
in Boston in the mid 1600s. While Hester s husband is assumed dead at sea, Hester has relations
with the town s minister, Dimmesdale. She later has a child named Pearl. The Puritans of the town
criticize Hester for committing adultery and make her wear a scarlet letter A on her chest as a
punishment for her sin.
B. Thesis: Through a series of symbols, Hawthorne depicts the structure of Puritan society and how
people s harsh judgements shape the identities of several characters.
II. Main points:
A. Symbolism of the letter A
Thus the young and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The symbolism of the scaffold changes throughout three separate chapters. In the beginning,
Hester and Pearl are displayed on the scaffold as they are being interrogated by the top officials
of their town. Dimmesdale watches from the side with feelings of guilt, but he does not reveal
he is Pearl s father. Chillingworth disguises himself in the crowd as a physician as he learns of
Hester s transgression. Here the scaffold symbolizes humiliation and persecution as Hester and
Pearl are being displayed in front of their town. The second scaffold scene takes place about
seven years later at night when [Dimmesdale] had been driven hither by the impulse of that
Remorse which dogged him everywhere... (136). Here the scaffold represents the purging of
guilt for Dimmesdale. Unlike Hester and Pearl who had been forced to climb up the scaffold,
Dimmesdale does so willingly as an attempt to lessen his intense feelings of guilt for his adultery.
As Hester and Pearl are returning home from a burial, they decide to climb up the scaffold and
join him. Hester, Pearl, and Dimmesdale link hands. Now the scaffold symbolizes a place of
unity for the three; no one is around as they connect as mother, father, and child. The scaffold
acts as a place of safety for the family where they are free from judgement. The last scaffold scene
takes place at the end of the book where Dimmesdale is found atop of the scaffold once again. He is

Tragic fall of Icarus--compares the myth and how it...
The Tragic Death of Icarus
The story of Icarus is a classic Greek myth that has fascinated people all over the world. The tale
of his demise has been retold many times throughout history. The myth has been honored in art,
songs, poetry and by literature artists, with one apparently inspiring the other to explore the tale in
one different approach or another. Three of the most appealing of these versions of the tale of
Icarus can be found in the poems Musee des Beaux Arts by W. H. Auden
, Landscape with the Fall
of Icarus by W. C. Williams, and Waiting for Icarus by Muriel Rukeyser. Even though the three
poems talk about Icarus s fall, each covers it in a different way. Musee des Beaux Arts and

Birth and death must occur simultaneously; otherwise, there will be no continuity.
Muriel Rukeyser, in Waiting for Icarus makes no apparent connection with Breughel s painting.
Indeed, while the painting and works of the previous two poets convey a sense of
obliviousness to the fact that a boy has just died, in Waiting for Icarus, Rukeyser considers the
event from a more personal and emotional perspective. This poem concentrates abandonment,
and everything comes to an end. A woman tells a story about her relationship with a man whom
she loves and anticipates his return, a man who promises her so many things. He puts her trust
in him and waits for him, only to find out her lover is man of words not deed, for none of his
promises are fulfilled. He promises her that he will be back and that their relationship is going to
work out for the best. He asks her to wait for his return at the beach and not to cry. She waits for
him, but he abandons her; she finds out that everything in life has an end. The day ends with the
arrival of night. When there is life, death will always follow. Her love story ends with Icarus s
death, broken promises, regret, and heartbreak.
Rukeyser, in Waiting for Icarus, conveys emotion and sensitivity that is also alluded to by W. H.
Auden and W. C. Williams in their wonderment at why the world has not noticed Icarus in Musee
des Beaux Art, and Landscape with the fall of Icarus. However, Rukeyser s poem portrays love,

Wild Lands Policy Summary
Will new government policies that designate areas as Wild Lands hurt local economies?
According to the first article or testimony I read which was titled Testimony before the House
Natural Resources Committee Hearing on The Impact of the Administration s Wild Lands Order
on Jobs and Economic Growth by Mike Lee, Yes. He not only believes that it will hurt local
economies but that it is illegal. He states that under the U.S. Constitution, Congress has the sole
authority to regulate federal lands. For public lands, Congress delegates that authority to the
Interior Secretary in a series of federal laws, including the Bureau of Land Management Organic
Act or the Federal Land Policy and Management Act (FLPMA). For wilderness designation,

This article talks about the Wilderness Act that was passed in 1964, the enactment of the
Federal Land Policy and Management Act (FLPMA) in 1976, and the Wild Lands Policy in
2010. She discusses the history of these acts and policies. The article describes how these acts
and policies passed and the different litigation that came from them. The Wild Lands Policy is
described in detail in section V. The article first describes the three ways the new Wild Lands
Policy was to work. The first way was it affirmed that the agency should consider wilderness
values as an integral component of its multiple use mission, identifying lands with wilderness
characteristics (LWC) in its mandatory section 201 inventories. Second, the Policy directed
BLM to use its section 202 land use planning authority to consider designating appropriate LWC
as Wild Lands, that is, lands that the agency would protect in amended RMPs by avoiding
impairment to their wilderness characteristics. Third, for project level decisions in areas not yet
inventoried under the new framework, the Policy instructed BLM to inventory apparent
wilderness characteristics, and then discuss the proposed project s effects to them as well as
measures to minimize those effects in a NEPA analysis. (Brumfield, v.44, I1) The article then
describes each area in its own section, section A is Inventory, section B is Land Use Planning,
and section C is Project Level Decisions. In section VI the Death and Afterlife of the Wild Lands
Policy is discussed in detail. She talks about how the policy sparked immediate protest and legal
challenges. In April 2011 the opposition to the Wild Lands Policy took full effect. There was a
congressional rider put into place that prohibited the use of funds to implement the policy. Then

Research Paper On John Wayne Gacy
Ted Bundy, Theodore Kaczynski, Jeffrey Dahmer, and John Wayne Gacy have something in
common. They are all convicted serial killers. Since 1900, there have been 614 known serial
killers in the United States. All have been convicted of at least three murders, however, they
may be suspected of more (Fox, Levin Quinet, 2012). John Wayne Gacy, also known as the
Killer Clown, was convicted of killing 33 young men and teenage boys, in Chicago, Illinois,
from 1972 to 1978. Gacy was born March 17, 1942 in Chicago, Illinois to John Wayne Gacy Sr.

Assess the reasons behind Wolsey s fall
From the beginning of Henry VIII reign to 1529, Cardinal Wolsey was a influential figure and
Henry s key advisor. However by 1529 Wolsey had been charged with praemunire and was due to
be executed in November 1530. The most important reason for this was because of Wolsey s
failure to obtain a divorce between Catherine of Aragon and Henry VIII.
The main reason behind Wolsey s fall was his failure to obtain a divorce between Catherine of
Argon and Henry VIII. Henry s desire to end his marriage began in 1527 in which Wolsey promised
would be a quick and easy problem to resolve due to his influence with the pope. However after two

Evaluation Of A Clinical Evaluation Essay
With the continuous changes in healthcare, evaluation of students clinical knowledge and skills
relies on the need for continuous evaluation. Evaluation is the process of using data to make
judgements about students individual performance. Evaluation of clinical performance provides
data from which educators use to judge the extent to which students have acquired specific learning
outcomes (Billings Halstead, 2016). With the use of best practice evaluation methods, clinical
performance can be evaluated to ensure quality patient care. Educators face a challenging task when
providing evaluation that is fair and reasonable. Tasked with evaluating students in the clinical
setting, educators can evaluate how students integrate theory and apply it to real life situations.
Observations of performance in the clinical setting should focus on the outcomes to be met and
competencies to be developed (Oermann Gaberson, 2014). Developing a clinical evaluation tool to
determine whether students can think critically, prioritize problems, and complete patient care
procedures correctly is essential. There are a variety of evaluation methods to use in nursing
education. Depending on the learning outcomes to be measured will determine which tool best
evaluates the students performance. Clinical practice is an essential and highly significant
component of nursing education. Education programs are obligated to respond to government
requests for well educated healthcare professionals.

because this is a group in society that is sometimes overlooked and underrepresented. Additionally, I

Are the economically poor information poor? Does the digital divide affect the homeless and access

Using honorifics is involved in providing the appropriate respect to the person. There are several
honorific titles used to refer to someone; using the wrong one, or not one at all, often causes
offense. Not only does incorrect usage offend the person, but people involved in the conversation
will see this as disrespectful too. I have an interest in other cultures, but something about Korean
culture drew me in more so. I have noticed that one key aspect of Korean culture is maintaining a
sense of harmony within communities. I think this is quite a contrast compared to American
culture where being independent and unique are ideal. I appreciate how community is valued in
Korean culture. I am also intrigued by Korean food culture. I have a favorite Korean restaurant
which is family owned; the family, around lunch time, prepares the main dishes along with the
side dishes and they all sit and eat together while customers eat. I have seen this situation each

A Window into Thinking During The Gilded Age in the Book...
In the latter chapters, Julian gains a love interest. He falls in love with Edith Leete, the daughter,
who turns out to be Edith Bartlet s great granddaughter. Edith Bartlet was his former fiancГЁe. In
the 19th century, anarchism was a growing movement that scared many people including Julian.
Dr. Leete describes how it was in fact the wealthiest who funded them, so people would be afraid
of reform. However, this was not enough because social change was not instigated by labor or
political parties but by the vow by mankind to persevere and conquer the old order and usher in the
new. Mr. Bellamy contrasts the anarchist and socialist movements in order posit the latter in a more
favorable light. An important issue resolved the... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
They both profess their love for each other which consoles Mr. West, but that night he
encounters an eery dream. It is about him waking up in back where he was at the beginning of
the book. He reads of all the horrors and atrocities in the newspaper and that night goes to Ms.
Bartlet s parent s house for dinner. By trying to convince the wealthy folks at the table of the
awfulness of today s poor and how it could be so much better, he only distresses them, and he is
kicked out. In this dream, he loses all hope for humanity, but then he wakes up and realizes that the
21st century is real and where he belongs. He can be an ambassador to the past and work as an
educator, giving a unique perspective of the 19th century. The Gilded Age was a time a of great
prosperity but also great corruption. Many advances in technology and industry took place during
the time period. The transcontinental railroad was built, the steel industry was expanded, and oil
took off. These developments allowed for the US to experience an industrial revolution, but not
all was well. Most of the wealth generated during this time concentrated itself into the hands a of
a select few who were able to weasel their way to the top of their industry. One example is John D.
Rockefeller, who with wealth adjusted for inflation, amassed a fortune of around $700 billion. The
way the these men obtained their wealth was an issue for many during the

Neifile’s Tale in Boccaccio’s Decameron Essay
Neifile s Tale in Boccaccio s Decameron
The second story of Day 1 in Boccaccio s Decameron is about a Jew named Abraham who
becomes a Christian after his friend, Jehannot, convinces him to visit the court of Rome. At first
glance, the storyteller, Neifile, presents it as a tale of a Jew s conversion. On closer inspection, it
becomes evident that the story focuses on language, labels, and popularity. In Neifile s story,
Boccaccio represents language as a way of labeling socially unpopular religious ideology (like
Judaism) as more acceptable doctrine (like Christianity), a fact that Abraham takes advantage of to
increase his popularity in order to conform to society.
Before she even begins her story, Neifile sets up a dichotomy ... Show more content on

Second, within this same introductory comment, Neifile uses similar logic to establish why
Abraham has not yet converted. With the mention of the phrase in word, Neifile suggests that
Abraham has not seen God s loving kindness partly because he has not declared witnessing it. Right
from the start of the story, Neifile implies that Abraham s conversion hinges not on his beliefs or
convictions, but on his verbal acknowledgement of Christianity. Abraham, however, is adamant in
his refusal to convert. He considers no faith to be sound and holy except the Jewish (1.2.38), which
means that the act of conversion to him is undesirable. In the story, however, the impression given
by Neifile s comment is that Abraham must simply say that he has converted; he does not have to
embrace any ideological changes to his beliefs. Here, the fact that expression of Christianity is more
important than actual conversion emphasizes the notion that labels can almost instantaneously
transform a person from one state (unconverted) to another (converted).
Even early on, Abraham begins to reveal some of the reasons why he wants to be labeled
differently from his present label as a Jew. In his initial attempts to convince Abraham to abandon
Judaism, Jehannot tries to show him, in the sort of homespun language for which most merchants
have a natural bent, on what grounds [his] faith was superior to the Jewish

Persuasive Essay On Barbie Doll
In my opinion, I believe that kids should be playing with dolls that have normal features, or with
action figures where the superheroes muscles/features should resemble to what an average
person s features should look like. Even though barbies help entertain girls and inspire them, I
still believe that girls should be playing with dolls that have normal features. People aren t really
aware about the things kids actually thought about themselves when they play with barbie dolls
or action figures. There are girls as young as five that are concerned about their body image. They
believe that the way the barbie looks like is the same way they should look like when they get
older. It isn t just girls that think about this boys do to. Boys

Manichaean Dualism In The Hobbit
J.R.R Tolkien s writing consists of a variety of different mythological influences ranging from
Greco Roman, Norse, and Scandinavian. Thought these sources do shape the narrative of Tolkien s
writing and of Middle Earth as a whole, most prominent inspirations of his mythos is derived from
Christian theology in the Bible. Traces of biblical influence can be found throughout The Hobbit,
The Lord of the Ringstrilogy and The Silmarillion, particularly in each of these texts conception of
good and evil. Some have argued that the morality presented in his works are akin to Manichaean
dualism. In this essay, I shall argue that though Tolkien s position on the dichotomies of good and
evil sometimes does delve into the realm of Manichaean dualism but... Show more content on

Nursing Drug Abuse Essay
Drug Abuse: A Recommendation for Acts of Prevention In Hospitals
Within the past year, nurses with Annie Penn Hospital have been involved in over three hundred
situations that led to significant changes in the hospital s surveillance and protocol. Many nurses
have been taking non prescription drugs while on the job causing impaired judgement, which leads
to complications during surgeries. These encounters have prompted a series of outraged families
demanding justice, and the United States oldest non profit healthcare organization has decided that
there has to be a change in hospital protocol. Recently, Mayor Donecker has made
recommendations to the local hospital to adopt surprise drug tests as the preferred approach to
discovering the potential impaired nurses. The response from the nurses to the mayor s call to
change protocol have been both negative and positive. As the head CRNA, I have been asked to
look into the issue and report to the Joint Commission. This report includes a review of the
professional literature on how job performance is related with stress. Then it will refer to drug
abuse and how it can affect an employee s daily life. Next, this report will recommend several
tactics to help hospitals regulate, and reduce the abuse ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Social Security Is The Most Popular Government Program
What Is Social Security?
Social Security is the most popular government program and touches the life of every worker in
America, but most people know little or nothing about how it operates. The following discussion
explains what Social Security is and how it operates.
Social Security s Major Programs.
While most discussions focus only on Social Security s retirement program, Social Security actually
consists of three major programs, all of which are administered by the Social Security
Administration. Specifically:
Retirement.Social Security s retirement program provides a lifetime monthly income for qualified
workers once they reach their full retirement age. Depending on when they were born, that age
ranges from 65 to 67. The amount of retirement benefits that a worker receives depends on his or
her income while working. Workers also have the option of receiving a lower monthly income
starting at age 62.
Survivors. Social Security s survivors program provides a monthly lifetime income to the
surviving spouse of a deceased worker once he or she reaches retirement age. The amount of the
monthly benefit depends on both spouses income while they were working. The survivors
program also pays benefits to children under the age of 18 and the surviving spouse caring for
them. Unless they are disabled, children s benefits end when the last child either reaches age 18 or
graduates from high school, whichever is later.
Disability. Social Security also pays lifetime

Traffic Court Observation Paper
I decided to attend a night traffic court session at the Ventura Courthouse. The cases ranged from
seat belt violations to reckless driving. Most of the defendants appeared before the court to
request more time to pay the fines associated with the tickets. I was surprised to see that very
few of the people in the courthouse were pleading not guilty. Only one person showed up to
defend a case with legal help from an attorney of some sort. The first person to claim not guilty
was charged with speeding. I tried to get as many of the details of the case as possible. The facts of
the case were as follows: While driving on Bogus Avenue, the defendant was stopped by an Officer

I was unaware that the law does not require drivers to stop for a predetermined length of time. The
defendant pleaded Not Guilty to the charge of violating CVC 22450(a). The facts of the case
were as follows: While exiting the 5 freeway, the defendant claims to have made a brief stop at a
stop sign at the intersection at the end of the off ramp. After the stop, she proceeded to turn right
through the intersection. Shortly thereafter, she was stopped by a officer and was charged with
violating CVC 22450(a) Failure to stop for stop sign. The defendant stated that she told the
officer that she had stopped at the limit line as required. The officer agreed and said: You
stopped, but you didn t stop long enough. The defendant stated that the officer seemed to indicate
in this statement that he wanted her to stop for a longer period of time than she actually had. The
defendant read from the California Vehicle Code, the required length of time for a stop is defined
in CVC 587 as Stop or stopping... shall mean any cessation of movement of a vehicle. The
defendant then stated that she believed that any cessation of movement would include the stop she
made. She then stressed that the officer, by his statements, seemed to believe that a set time period
for a stop is required though no such set time length is actually provided for in the law. The
defendant also offered that since many drivers do not stop at all at an uncontested stop, the officer

Taking Sides Clashing Views in Management
Introduction
Taking Sides Clashing Views in Management written by Marc and Vera Street diverse into some
deep, debatable topics. Upon reading each issue, it is clear that there is no right or wrong
answer. Several times I found myself torn on both sides; this is I was both for and against certain
issues. I have always tried to make decisions as informed as possible but realized that judgments
are still personal and what we believe in.
Issues
Issue 1: I do believe that corporations have a responsibility to society as a whole, not only to
maximize their own profits and benefit the economy but also to respect the community that they
reside in. They achieve this by not only providing employment, but also upholding an image. It is

corporations to use cheap overseas labor my first thoughts were yes because of my personal
beliefs. But upon further thought and through discovery, I realized that from a business point of
view we as a nation should still help promote economic globalization. In order to do so we need to
outsource production and encourage trade. However, because we are fiscally involved in another
country s economy that doesn t give American corporations the right to implement our laws and
standards into other countries business practices and laws. Just because we see child labor, unfair
wages, and violating overtime as immoral, doesn t mean that the host county does. However global
labor standards need to be unified.
Issue 3: Siding with Ira Kay, I agree with his position on the issue. The American Dream is to
essentially start from nothing, working up the ladder to gain money, power, and the image of a
lavish, executive lifestyle; resulting from hard work paying off and wages that compensate for it.
Annual pay and stock incentives for most executives will fluctuate with the company s
performance, as well as their personal efforts. If a cap was to be implemented on a CEO s salary,
what would be the incentive to stay at the helm of a corporation when the financial glass ceiling has
been reached?
Issue 4: Does an employer s need to monitor workers trump employee privacy concerns? This is
one of these controversial issues where I agree with points from both sides.

The Global Cruise Ship Industry
It is the first day of your Caribbean cruise vacation and you are overwhelmed with excitement.
After months of anticipation you have arrived at the port of embarkation only to be welcomed by
a line that circles around the arrival lounge. (Fig.1) Undenounced to a rookie in the game of
cruise ship travel, this lengthy embarkation line is only the first to be encountered in every port to
be visited while on cruise. This is only the first hiccup while on what is supposed to be the stress

Given the expected growth within the cruise ship industry it is understandable that the investment in
new technology to remain competitive in the market is imminent. Which is why the cohesion of the
passenger s smart devices and the total cruise ship experience will give the competitive edge in this
progressing market.
The chart below proves that the demographics of passengers that bored a cruise ship are the most
susceptible to the implementation of smart technology thus helping to alleviate the problems
encountered while aboard. (Fig. 2)
Cruise Passenger Demographic StatisticsData
Average age of a cruise passenger50 +
Average household earnings$109,000
Percent of passengers who are college graduates86 %
Percent who are married and work full time62 %
Percent of people age 25+ with earnings of $40,000+ who have taken a cruise44.6 %
Percent of the total US population who have taken a cruise19.9 %
Average spent per person per week on their cruise$1,770
Average spent per person per week on a non cruise vacation$1,200

Market Analysis
The table reveals that passengers are normally older, educated, financially stable, which leads to
the assumption that they are well versed in technology and would be willing to use the RFID s if
they were to be implemented. The passengers are also willing to spend more money than they
would on a conventional vacation, and that in itself sets up the expectation for a seamless

What Is Non-Embodied Identity
I really enjoyed how in this class we learned more about identity and how to explore our own.
And what I think worked really well was exploring what Identity was at the beginning of the
semester. After we learned about what creativity was and was not we started on defining Identity
and what non unitary self was. Non unitary self is saying that you are more than just 1 just thing.
I always knew that was true I just never knew the word for it. Before this class I was pretty solid in
my identity, and how I felt about it. I knew that I was Somali American and how that shaped my
identity. I understand what culture clash was before I consciously knew that I was juggling two
separate cultural identities. As I grew older I started to describe my identity as a triple threat, as an
opposition to the norm of American society. I was Muslim, Black, and Woman. Being conscious of
my identity allowed me to navigate many different spaces, especially when I came to college. In
college, there are so many unwritten rules and understandingthose nuances came from knowing my
identity. It really helped when I understood the fastest way to make friends in college was to
befriend the people of color in the room. But... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

doesn t mean I don t understand how other people see dancing because dancing is fun and it is a
form of expression. And I know I will use what I learned in my future classroom, such as getting
the wiggles out dance time, or for serious affairs like exploring emotions using dancing in small
children. The dancing unit at the Cowles center allowed me to get to know a few of my classmates

Themes of Stones Into Schools Essay
Themes from Stones into Schools
The institution of education in many regions of Afghanistan and Pakistan is virtually nonexistent.
Many girls don t have access to schools (Stones into Schools p.4) and those that do usually don t
graduate from high school. While Greg Mortenson s Stones into Schools and the documentary The
Miseducation of Pakistan deal with two different areas, they both show many similar themes. One
major recurring theme that is evident in both Stones into Schools and The Miseducation of Pakistan
is the suppression of women. Both works discussed how women in the region had traditionally been
discouraged from attending school or entering the workplace. The Talibanwas especially opposed to
women s rights. When the Taliban... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The mountains are so high that transportation in the region is very difficult. The air can be so
thin that some of the farmers in the Hindu Kush region have to slice their donkey s nostrils open
so that they can breathe easier due to the thin air (Stones into Schools p.27). The extreme terrain
is a major obstacle for creating schools in the region, which is why the government didn t build
any there. Some winters in that area can last from September to June, making all transportation
even more difficult. Pakistan is experiencing a similar problem. Many regions in Pakistan are
geographically isolated by various geographic features and poor roads. Thus, remote areas are
more difficult to access and build schools in. A third theme that comes up is crime and violence.
Mortenson discusses how many dealings involve heroin dealers and conflict stricken areas. The
schools that Mortenson s organization built in the Kashmir region of Pakistan had to be outfitted
with pitched metal roofs to deflect fallout from Indian artillery shells (Stones into Schools p.37). He
also discusses the Taliban s violent takeover of the previous government in Afghanistanas well as
many of their excessively violent and cruel punishments for violation of their laws. The
Miseducation of Pakistan depicts this theme as well. One school in Pakistan that was depicted in
the video couldn t have their classes in the classrooms because criminals were using them to store
guns and drugs, so

Good Morning Midnight By Jean Rhys
Jean Rhys, the author of Good Morning Midnight, wrote about women with sense and sensitivity
in mostly controversial ways. Rhys was born in Dominica in eighteen ninety four. She came to
England at the age of sixteen and hovered on many jobs before she moved to Paris, where she
began writing and was found by Ford Maddox Ford.
About the essay question and theme, of the representation of women in the city, I believe Rhys
exposes the restrictive attitudes places upon women in the town rather than perpetuating them. Her
novels, often showed women as underdogs out to exploit their sexualities, which shows they were
ahead of their time. Once Good Morning Midnight was written she lived reclusively and was
largely forgotten.
In Good Morning Midnight Sasha s story moves back and forth, her outlook shifting from her
time in London to Paris. She remembers when she was married, to the time she was alone. Her
life in Paris moves between a range of cafes and bars, places where she was known. And some she
wants to stay away from, and areas ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
For example, the woman at the bar gives me one of those looks: what do you want her, you? We
don t cater for tourists here, not our clientele . This sort of attitude is linked to stereotypes and
prejudice. The barkeeps know nothing of Jensen personally by they automatically calculate the
person she is from the way she appears. This could suggest that Rhys acknowledges that it is not
just men who treat women unequally, but it is also women who degrade one another in the novel
too. It also is a sudden example of female on female hostility. Sternlicht sees that women in her
earlier novels are always hostile, and the protagonist is hostile in return or they repress anger or
flee in tears . (Sternlicht, 98). and throughout the novel in her sour encounters with other women,
the reader see s Jansen s prosperity in all three

Narcissism In Social Work
Published
There are many business issues we all face in the work place today. One of those that I can
personally relate to my professional work life is narcissism. Stephen Robbins defines narcissism
as being the tendency to be arrogant, have a grandiose sense of self importance, require excessive
admiration, and have a sense of entitlement. (Robbins, 2009, p. 113) We have one employee who
has the attitude of narcissism. He is very arrogant and thinks that he knows everything about
anything. This would be fine if he actually did. However, we are an electrical company. Meaning
we work very closely with electricity, which is highly dangerous if you do not know 100% what
you are doing. It makes it very difficult to work with someone like this. They make their co
workers feel belittled and they are less effective at the job. Narcissisms are very arrogant in the fact
that they do not care about their co workers feelings. In the article Narcissism and Emotional
Contagion , Writer Anna Czarna states that after much research, narcissists are less likely to catch...

Habakkuk 2:4 states

be related to someone who is narcissistic. We as Christians should put off this narcissism attitude
and portray more like Christ. Narcissism is easy to see in someone through their personality
traits. In Bob Stretch s presentation, he suggest that the best way to access someone s personality
is through measuring using the Myers Briggs Type Indicator and the Big Five Model
(Stretch,2009, Slide 4) Completing this is most helpful in the hiring process. I believe that if my
boss would do this we could seek out potential employees who would help the business succeed
instead of damaging it by being narcissism or

  • 2. How Cool Is Interpreted By Black Jazz This essay will identify and examine what cool is and the ways in which the notion of cool is interpreted, reflected and exploited in the entertainment business. Each of these areas will be addressed individually. The early meanings of cool were described primarily as anti caring, pro drug and anti authority. The notion of cool originates from a slang used by black jazz musicians and within the last 30 years; the term cool has evolved towards a subculture and the concept of cool is mainly related to today s youth culture (Runyan, Noh Mosier 2013, p. 323). It is used to identify something as up to date, stylish or innovative. Thus, based on a persons emotions or feelings about objects or ideas and if we relate it to people, cool becomes more ephemeral; a status of sorts (Hamley 2014). Researchers discovered that the dominant perception of coolness is revolving around social desirability and generic semi gentrified traits (Nye 2012). The notion of cool is frequently changing and it is not developed by a personality trait, more a group perception (Gerber 2012). The term cool is often used in marketing to young consumers. Their buying behaviours can affect the success or failure of a new business (Runyan, Noh Mosier 2013, p. 326). Businesses often express autonomy through advertising headlines and slogans: Stereosonic ( Summer is coming ), Apple ( Think Different ) and Disneyland ( The happiest place on earth ) because young consumers have a desire to enhance ... • 4. Summary Of Trisha BrownВґs Topping Dance Critique Topping dance , was an article written by Trisha Brown and La Ribot during mid march of 2003. Trish Brown performed at the Fabric Workshop and Museum in Philadelphia, an event titled It s a Darw/Live Feed. This performance was a collaboration with the Department of Modern and Contemporary Art of the Philadelphia Museum of Art. Brown s performance was a hybrid of improvised danceand automatic drawing that would be witnessed live by an audience placed in a separate space in the museum, where they could watch a live video feed. Reading this article, I found it very interesting while also kind of difficult at some points. Having the discussion in class helped me to better understand Brown s intention of her performance. On page 72, is it... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... To keep track of both one must look up and down and sideways simultaneously. While Trisha Brown is dancing the gaze and attention is produced within an excessively parergonic space. When reading this part of the article, I related this to how dancers use projection or text while also dancing and performing on stage. Depending on the performance and the use other art techniques, the specific work could get distracting. When putting dance and projection together, making sure the performance and projection match is important. As the audience is watching, each specific work could get distracting where the audience will choose whether to watch the projection or the dancing. It is a challenge when using multi media things because the nature of video, our eye pulls to it no matter how interesting the performers are on stage. Olivia also mentioned while we were at ACDA, the adjudicators spoke about how they were so distracted by some of the spoken words within the dances because it was overpowering. They got lost with the movement because they were so focused on the words. In our discussion on Wednesday, Taylor mentioned that on page 75, Brown s movements and actions created a visual kinetic troubling brought about by her constant creation, redistribution, and mobilization of multiplying vanishing points . The organization was built up in the year 1997 where it began as a unique equipment producer and design maker, designing and fabricating devices, for example, cell phones and tablets (Anonymous, 2016). For the previous years, the organization has been in operation; it is driven by their inventive thought which has empowered it to make an upper hand over different electronics organizations. The principle business opponents for HTC Corporation are Samsung Corporation which makes and markets distinctive assortments of electronics like Smartphones, Televisions, Laptops and Tablets; Apple Company specializes on iPhones and Techno Company. These organizations have offered a stiff rivalry henceforth the need to have a steady organization structure and also great advertising techniques to improve competitive edge (Edwards, J., 2014). 1.Which of the four multinational strategies is the MNE pursuing? HTC Corp. will adhere to its strategy of offering medium to high cost telephones, despite the fact that it has been attempting to contend in that price range in the midst of the expanding predominance of Apple Inc. also, Samsung Electronics Co. • 6. The United Nations Relief And Rehabilitation... In 1943, the United Nations created a relief organization called the United Nations Relief and Rehabilitation Administration (UNRRA). This organization was used to fight famine and disease that was occurring in Europe after World War II. The UNRRA focused on bringing relief to European civilians, and it was rendered unwelcome and disbanded after the Europe divided into two zones: the West and East. However in 1946, there was a large demand for a relief organization, and so the United Nationsdecided to constitute an emergency group focusing on aid for children. UNICEF was created in 1946 to provide emergency food, clothing and healthcare to children in countries that were destroyed during WWII. It was created to solve the food and medical crisis after the War in the European countries involved and those that were devastated in the War. Eglantyne Jebb, a British reformist, founded the Save the Children International Union, SCIU, which pressured the United Nations to start a group that specifically worked with children suffering from the trauma and aftermath of war. Also, U.S. army filmmakers created a film that shows the amount of destruction war does and how much it affects children. This film raised $200 million for welfare work, and so the UN proposed to use this money to provide relief to children in a new organization called UNICEF. So, the Collective Action problem it intended to solve was that: After WWII, UNICEF was created to provide food, clothing, and medical aid ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

It is important that families, schools and communities come together to achieve this. • 9. Shaping A Christian Worldview Essay One of the ongoing struggles for the church and Christianity is with culture. Questions have always surfaced about where we should stand on issues or whether it is permissible to isolate ourselves in all areas of life. Shaping A Christian Worldview suggests that hiding is not the preferred option, rather it is our duty to transform our modern culture. To do this we must be closely positioned with Scripture. Accomplishing this keeps the Christian grounded and does not give secular culture undue stature. Jesustaught that the salt of believers transformed by the gospel would alter the world. This idea means that contemporary Christians must be discerners of truth in our time. Since, the process of transforming culture requires that we know what needs to be changed and what does not. Godhas entrusted us with duty to help transform under the comprehension of Biblical claims.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... God s mandate included instructions relating to the stewardship of His creation. The Bible says, God blessed them and said to them, Be fruitful and increase in number; fill the earth and subdue it. Rule over the fish in the sea and the birds in the sky and over every living creature that moves on the ground (Gen. 1:28). Man, being created in God s image, is to subdue and to form a culture. The textbook rightly points out the secularism and pluralism dominates many aspects of this worldly culture. This has been reflected in many different ways. Much of America has lost belief in a divine creator, which has moved us down a path of no foundation for order. Second, modern thought has instilled a sense of individual achievement and a loss of a moral conscience where our moral norms are absent of religion. Finally, as we have progressed in modern society, these effects have lead to a fragile secular ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 10. Essay on Schindler s List Schindler s List Schindler s List is one of the most powerful movies of all time. It presents the indelible true story of enigmatic German businessman Oskar Schindler who becomes an unlikely saviour of more than 1100 Jews amid the barbaric Nazi reign. A German Catholic war profiteer, Schindler moved to Krakow in 1939 when Germany overran Poland. There he opens an enamelware factory that, on the advice of his Jewish accountant Itzhak Stern, was staffed by Jews from the nearby forced labour camp at Plaszow. Schindler s factory prospered though his contacts with the Nazi war machine and its local representatives, as well as his deft skill on the black market. Then, somewhere along the way, Schindler s devotion to self interest was ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... To think that this self centred man would become known for a shining moment of salvation for so many is almost beyond belief. Oskar Schindler is not a humanitarian or a force for ?good? in the typical sense. He is depicted within the film as a man that simply found himself in a unique position and rose to the occasion. Evil on the other hand, is epitomised throughout the film by the actions of those involved in the Nazi regime, in particular Amon Goeth who was in charge of the forced labour camp at Plaszow. However, emotion is not only conveyed through the actions of the main characters. Colour also has a significant impact on how good and evil is portrayed within the film. Perhaps the most moving image in Steven Spielberg?s epic, Schindler?s List, condenses all of the sadism of the Nazi regime into one small pictorial area. One of only four colour images in a black and white film spanning over three hours, the little girl in a red coat, making her way, aimless and alone through the madness and chaos, compels Schindler?s attention during the liquidation of the Jewish ghetto. Schindler identifies with the child, the plight of the little girl touches him in a way the sheer numbers make unreal ? this image transforms the faceless mass around him into one palpable human being. This figure serves as a moral reawakening for Schindler, his conscience consequently kicks into gear. The poignant yet subtle musical score also adds to the haunting atmosphere created by the ... The concept of bilingualism represents several different ideas, two writers share their personal stories about learning being immersed into the English culture and learning the language. They both share their views of what Bilingualism means to them personally and make arguments about the importance of the concept. According to Martin Espada s essay, The New Bathroom Policy at English High School, bilingualism represents a sense of self identity, a passion and love for speaking two languages, and the ability to embrace and preserve another culture. (9 10). By retaining their own culture and learning English they are able to participate in both cultures. Martin Espada also argues that cultural aggression causes diversion amongst communities and Spanish speakers receive unfair treatments due to suspicion and fear from non Spanish speaking people. Violence and bullying were often seen between communities of Spanish and Non Spanish speakers. Between the communities of Spanish and Non Spanish speakers the presence of violence and bullying lingered and effected the pEspada writes about one of his encounters with an angry man; He can rip out my tongue if he wants. But it won t work because I speak Spanish with my heart. (7). This aggression leads to hate and conflict between cultures in our community, however; Espada believes that bilingualism can unite and solve the conflict. Another reason a divide between groups is present that many non Spanish speakers have superstition towards Spanish speakers. Many Anglos assume that the only reason Latinos speak Spanish is to say diabolical things (Page 8, Line 121). The nerolin crystals were further analyzed to show purity of the experimental product by examining the shape and size of the crystals, along with the melting point of the crystals. From this experiment, 6.44% of nerolin crystals were recovered, with a melting point measured as 33 35C. • 13. The Book Of Alice B. Toklas By Gertrude Stein The Modernist writers were all about finding their own identity. There are those who were struggling to find their own because they were close to the modernists that expressed it. Through experimentation they were able to find an identity that they were comfortable with. Gertrude Stein found a voice when she wrote about her life from the point of view of her partner Alice B. Toklas. When it comes to writers talking about themselves they couldn t help but use the words and actions of their own characters, to create an idea of experimenting that they are unable to reveal about themselves or others that hey might have known. They are shadows of who they once were, but create a new identity under those experiments. The idea of being a shadow of someone else s identity helps shapes their own but, also the identity of the people that take on as they experiment with finding themselves . The Autobiography of Alice B. Toklas by Gertrude Stein is one of the most known works by the author. It is often seen as a simple read as compared to the rest of her works. Stein s works are often seen as experimental. The Autobiography of Alice B. Toklas could be seen experimental as well, because she wanted to tell her story from the perspective of her partner through the eyes of her partner Toklas. • 14. The Characters Of Achilles Heel In The Trojan War Achilles Heel By Casiano, Joshua A. Keiser University Achilles Heel It is said in Greek mythology Achilles was amongst the bravest of warriors in the Trojan War (The Editors of EncyclopГ¦dia Britannica, 2017). When he was only a baby Thetis dipped Achilles in the waters of the River Styx. By which he became invulnerable, except for the part of his heel by which she held him ((The Editors of EncyclopГ¦dia Britannica, 2017). Achilles had no blaring weakness and almost seem to be invincible. Until one day he was shot by a poison arrow in his Achilles tendon. This shows that even the legends we inspire to be have their very own weaknesses. We use the term Achilles heel today as an analogy to our own short comings. For me it seems as though routine imaging, ability to work with a portable, and eagerness to learn are my strengths. Even though I would consider myself a great warrior literally and metaphorically. I also have my fair share of short comings or in this case Achilles heel. My lack of complete understanding of technical factors, patient positioning, and special views have become my weaknesses. To start with being able to take routine imaging is one of many building blocks to become a great tech. Routine images at times can become a little mundane after doing 30 of them in a row. However, it s also really easy to mess up by not centering correctly, changing the technique after you have left the room causing the collimation to close, forgetting to place a marker on the ... Advantages And Disadvantages Of Tribals ii.Problems of assimilation with the non tribal People: The indigenous people of the Dooars were the Koch Rajbanshis, the Mech, the Rabhas and the Lepchas. They were well dependent on their traditional village economy of agriculture, hunting, fishing, and forest based economy. After the introduction of tea plantation in Dooars, the planters encouraged the immigration of the Nepalese, and then the tea planters decided to bring labourers from the Santal Parganas and Chhotonagpur plateau. In the second part of nineteenth century, a large number of tribal people mainly of Oraons, Santals, Mundas and Malpaharis in migrated to the Dooars. The immigrated Bangladeshi people occupied a vast areas in almost everywhere. Thus the Dooars grew into a new hub of multi racial and multi lingual people, and of course, this led the demographic and cultural environment to be too complex for the future. iii.Loss of Control over Natural Resources: Before coming of the British, the tribals enjoyed unhindered rights of ownership and management over natural resources like land, forests, wildlife water, soil, fishes etc. Indigenous peoples have an intuitive relationship with nature, a wealth of traditional knowledge, and have used natural resources for their livelihood. The side of the pyramid is an ascending triangle, which represents the element of fire, illumination , and energy. Whereas the wide base is symbolic of congregate, struggle, and fight, meaning everyone was trying to get themselves out of the lowest level of the society.4 In another side, some Egyptologists believe, the pyramid had the sloping side, so the dead pharaoh could symbolically climb up to the sky and live forever. Since the life in this world is temporarily, but the afterlife is eternal. All of those representations indicate the importance, and expectancy of their afterlife, as well as the loyalty to the god. There are various reasons why people are for or against full inclusion. The Learning Disabilities Association of America (2012) defines full inclusion as, a popular policy/practice in which all students with disabilities, regardless of the nature or the severity of the disabilityand need for related services, receive their total education within the regular education classroom in their home school (p. 1). Full inclusionis a policy in which the ultimate goal is to eliminate the need of pull out programs. When children are separated in schools, they begin to believe that one group is better than the other. More often than not, elementary aged students refer to the special education students as the mental ones. Although children do not intentionally negatively judge their peers, the segregation in school systems makes them believe that is why they are separated. Batchelor and Taylor stated, Social interaction within the peer culture is the basis from which friendships develop (Guralnick, 1981), and is an important medium through which language, cognitive and social learning takes place (Guralnick 1981; McEvoy Odom, 1987) (p. 1). Students need social interaction with their peers in order to make friends and develop social skills. When students with disabilities are all in one room together, they are not being exposed to the people they will talk to in the real world, and therefore will not develop proper social skills. When regular education students are integrated with students with disabilities, they become much more accepting of people with differences. They make new friends and learn how to accommodate for those who need extra help. Keeping children separated plays a role on the reputation and mental health of those with disabilities. Abrams, Hogg, and Marques (2005) stated, Whereas the experience of inclusion is frequently accompanied by positive emotions, the experience of being excluded typically leads to negative emotions, including sadness, loneliness, jealousy, anger, shame, and anxiety (Baumeister Tice, 1990; Leary,1990) (p. 64). We all fear death in some ways, such as losing a loved one, not knowing if they re still happy and even not knowing what might come after death. Regardless of how we all feel on such a sad matter, it is truly inevitable and we must all accept it. If we begin to look at deathin a more beautiful way and not so sinister, we can have a better understanding. In the two poems, Because I Could Not Stop For Death by Emily Dickinson s and To An Athlete Dying Young by A.E. Housman while the theme differs, they are much alike in some ways. Emily Dickinson s poem, Because I Could Not Stop For Death gives me a sense of peace when it comes to death. The theme portrays death as a easy, peaceful ride when one passes away. The overall metaphor here is comparing death to a carriage ride. Another line from the poem says it withers quicker than the rose this is metaphor for how the cheerfulness of the town withered away after such a great loss. Indeed, while the painting and works of the previous two poets convey a sense of obliviousness to the fact that a boy has just died, in Waiting for Icarus, Rukeyser considers the event from a more personal and emotional perspective. This poem concentrates abandonment, and everything comes to an end. A woman tells a story about her relationship with a man whom she loves and anticipates his return, a man who promises her so many things. He puts her trust in him and waits for him, only to find out her lover is man of words not deed, for none of his promises are fulfilled. He promises her that he will be back and that their relationship is going to work out for the best. He asks her to wait for his return at the beach and not to cry. She waits for him, but he abandons her; she finds out that everything in life has an end. The day ends with the arrival of night. When there is life, death will always follow. Her love story ends with Icarus s death, broken promises, regret, and heartbreak. Rukeyser, in Waiting for Icarus, conveys emotion and sensitivity that is also alluded to by W. H. Auden and W. C. The Wild Lands Policy is described in detail in section V. The article first describes the three ways the new Wild Lands Policy was to work. The first way was it affirmed that the agency should consider wilderness values as an integral component of its multiple use mission, identifying lands with wilderness characteristics (LWC) in its mandatory section 201 inventories. Second, the Policy directed BLM to use its section 202 land use planning authority to consider designating appropriate LWC as Wild Lands, that is, lands that the agency would protect in amended RMPs by avoiding impairment to their wilderness characteristics. Third, for project level decisions in areas not yet inventoried under the new framework, the Policy instructed BLM to inventory apparent wilderness characteristics, and then discuss the proposed project s effects to them as well as measures to minimize those effects in a NEPA analysis. (Brumfield, v.44, I1) The article then describes each area in its own section, section A is Inventory, section B is Land Use Planning, and section C is Project Level Decisions. In section VI the Death and Afterlife of the Wild Lands Policy is discussed in detail. She talks about how the policy sparked immediate protest and legal challenges. Evaluation is the process of using data to make judgements about students individual performance. Evaluation of clinical performance provides data from which educators use to judge the extent to which students have acquired specific learning outcomes (Billings Halstead, 2016). With the use of best practice evaluation methods, clinical performance can be evaluated to ensure quality patient care. Educators face a challenging task when providing evaluation that is fair and reasonable. Tasked with evaluating students in the clinical setting, educators can evaluate how students integrate theory and apply it to real life situations. Observations of performance in the clinical setting should focus on the outcomes to be met and competencies to be developed (Oermann Gaberson, 2014). Developing a clinical evaluation tool to determine whether students can think critically, prioritize problems, and complete patient care procedures correctly is essential. There are a variety of evaluation methods to use in nursing education. Depending on the learning outcomes to be measured will determine which tool best evaluates the students performance. Neifile’s Tale in Boccaccio’s Decameron Essay Neifile s Tale in Boccaccio s Decameron The second story of Day 1 in Boccaccio s Decameron is about a Jew named Abraham who becomes a Christian after his friend, Jehannot, convinces him to visit the court of Rome. At first glance, the storyteller, Neifile, presents it as a tale of a Jew s conversion. On closer inspection, it becomes evident that the story focuses on language, labels, and popularity. In Neifile s story, Boccaccio represents language as a way of labeling socially unpopular religious ideology (like Judaism) as more acceptable doctrine (like Christianity), a fact that Abraham takes advantage of to increase his popularity in order to conform to society. Before she even begins her story, Neifile sets up a dichotomy ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Second, within this same introductory comment, Neifile uses similar logic to establish why Abraham has not yet converted. With the mention of the phrase in word, Neifile suggests that Abraham has not seen God s loving kindness partly because he has not declared witnessing it. Right from the start of the story, Neifile implies that Abraham s conversion hinges not on his beliefs or convictions, but on his verbal acknowledgement of Christianity. Abraham, however, is adamant in his refusal to convert. He considers no faith to be sound and holy except the Jewish (1.2.38), which means that the act of conversion to him is undesirable. In the story, however, the impression given by Neifile s comment is that Abraham must simply say that he has converted; he does not have to embrace any ideological changes to his beliefs. Here, the fact that expression of Christianity is more important than actual conversion emphasizes the notion that labels can almost instantaneously transform a person from one state (unconverted) to another (converted). Even early on, Abraham begins to reveal some of the reasons why he wants to be labeled differently from his present label as a Jew. In his initial attempts to convince Abraham to abandon Judaism, Jehannot tries to show him, in the sort of homespun language for which most merchants have a natural bent, on what grounds [his] faith was superior to the Jewish ...
