This document discusses construction project management. It begins with an introduction to project management and its goals of completing projects on time, within budget and to quality standards. It then outlines the typical steps in project management including initiation, planning, construction and closeout. It discusses working with project teams and techniques for scheduling like Gantt charts. The document also covers project budgeting, planning tools like Building Information Modeling (BIM), and concludes with case studies of large construction projects like Burj Khalifa that achieved tight schedules through use of new technologies and project management best practices.

The Roman Empire A Historical Colossus.pdfkaushalkr1407
The Roman Empire, a vast and enduring power, stands as one of history's most remarkable civilizations, leaving an indelible imprint on the world. It emerged from the Roman Republic, transitioning into an imperial powerhouse under the leadership of Augustus Caesar in 27 BCE. This transformation marked the beginning of an era defined by unprecedented territorial expansion, architectural marvels, and profound cultural influence.
The empire's roots lie in the city of Rome, founded, according to legend, by Romulus in 753 BCE. Over centuries, Rome evolved from a small settlement to a formidable republic, characterized by a complex political system with elected officials and checks on power. However, internal strife, class conflicts, and military ambitions paved the way for the end of the Republic. Julius Caesar’s dictatorship and subsequent assassination in 44 BCE created a power vacuum, leading to a civil war. Octavian, later Augustus, emerged victorious, heralding the Roman Empire’s birth.
Under Augustus, the empire experienced the Pax Romana, a 200-year period of relative peace and stability. Augustus reformed the military, established efficient administrative systems, and initiated grand construction projects. The empire's borders expanded, encompassing territories from Britain to Egypt and from Spain to the Euphrates. Roman legions, renowned for their discipline and engineering prowess, secured and maintained these vast territories, building roads, fortifications, and cities that facilitated control and integration.
The Roman Empire’s society was hierarchical, with a rigid class system. At the top were the patricians, wealthy elites who held significant political power. Below them were the plebeians, free citizens with limited political influence, and the vast numbers of slaves who formed the backbone of the economy. The family unit was central, governed by the paterfamilias, the male head who held absolute authority.
Culturally, the Romans were eclectic, absorbing and adapting elements from the civilizations they encountered, particularly the Greeks. Roman art, literature, and philosophy reflected this synthesis, creating a rich cultural tapestry. Latin, the Roman language, became the lingua franca of the Western world, influencing numerous modern languages.
Roman architecture and engineering achievements were monumental. They perfected the arch, vault, and dome, constructing enduring structures like the Colosseum, Pantheon, and aqueducts. These engineering marvels not only showcased Roman ingenuity but also served practical purposes, from public entertainment to water supply.

The French Revolution, which began in 1789, was a period of radical social and political upheaval in France. It marked the decline of absolute monarchies, the rise of secular and democratic republics, and the eventual rise of Napoleon Bonaparte. This revolutionary period is crucial in understanding the transition from feudalism to modernity in Europe.

2024.06.01 Introducing a competency framework for languag learning materials ...Sandy Millin
http://sandymillin.wordpress.com/iateflwebinar2024
Published classroom materials form the basis of syllabuses, drive teacher professional development, and have a potentially huge influence on learners, teachers and education systems. All teachers also create their own materials, whether a few sentences on a blackboard, a highly-structured fully-realised online course, or anything in between. Despite this, the knowledge and skills needed to create effective language learning materials are rarely part of teacher training, and are mostly learnt by trial and error.
Knowledge and skills frameworks, generally called competency frameworks, for ELT teachers, trainers and managers have existed for a few years now. However, until I created one for my MA dissertation, there wasn’t one drawing together what we need to know and do to be able to effectively produce language learning materials.
This webinar will introduce you to my framework, highlighting the key competencies I identified from my research. It will also show how anybody involved in language teaching (any language, not just English!), teacher training, managing schools or developing language learning materials can benefit from using the framework.

3. Introduction Project Management Is Concerned With The Overall Planning And Co-ordination Of A Project From Conception To Completion Aimed At Meeting The Stated Requirements And Ensuring Completion On Time, Within Cost And To Required Quality Standards. “A project is a one-shot, time-limited, goal-directed, major undertaking, requiring the commitment of varied skills and resources”. Or “ The art and science of coordinating people, equipment, materials, money, and schedules to complete a specified project on time and within approved cost.”

7. 3. PROJECT TEAMS Each triangle in Figure represents a team. Regardless of the size and number of teams, there must be a single head project manager to make final decisions and keep focus on the project.
14. In order to optimize the duration of a floor cycle or to determine the daily schedule, modelers can modify the duration of the activities to suit the site conditions. It has to point out that the duration of the activities can be shortened or extended by increasing or decreasing the input resources, mainly the human resources in concrete frame construction generally. Table 1 shows the duration for the activities of a typical floor construction cycle.
27. Creating real-time, consistent relationships between digital design data—with innovative parametric building modeling technology—can save significant amounts of time and money and increase project productivity and quality.Benefits in:- Design phase BIM allows a project team to make changes to the project at any time during the design or documentation process without laborious, low-value recoordination and manual checking work.
28. construction phase In the construction phase of the building lifecycle, BIM makes available concurrent information on building quality, schedule, and cost. BIM also means that less time and money are spent on process and administration issues in construction because document quality is higher and construction planning better. Management Phase BIM makes available concurrent information on the use or performance of the building; its occupants and contents; the life of the building over time; and the financial aspects of the building.
38. Murray and Roberts brought the expertise for detailing, fabrication, shipment and erection of the complex structural steel. This was subcontracted to Generic Steel Fabricators of Johannesburg, South Africa, a company owned by Murray and Roberts. This subcontract would reduce financial risk.
47. Simple drop head formwork system that can be dismantled and assembled quickly with minimum labor requirement.
48.
49. Major equipments The process of selecting the right equipment to ensure delivery of materials and workers effectively and efficiently is an art in its own right. Selecting the optimal equipment and vertical transportation system for construction requires ongoing analysis and constant modifications due to the dynamic nature of the project during its construction life. summary of the equipment used Tower cranes Tower main hoists Concrete pumping equipments The Burj Khalifa project is another step forward in meeting the technological challenges of future construction.
50. 9.Project planning softwares Microsoft Project (or MSP or WinProj) is a project management software program is designed to assist project managers in developing plans, assigning resources to tasks, tracking progress, managing budgets and analyzing workloads. The application creates critical path schedules, and critical chain and event chain methodology. Schedules can be resource leveled, and chains are visualized in a Gantt chart. Additionally, Project can recognize different classes of users. These different classes of users can have differing access levels to projects, views, and other data. Custom objects such as calendars, views, tables, filters, and fields are stored in an enterprise global which is shared by all users.
