CONFLICT MANAGEMENT
MEANING
 Conflict may be understood as collision
or disagreement.
 It is the struggle between opposing needs,
wishes, ideas, interests or people.
 Conflict arises when individuals or groups
encounter goals that both parties cannot
obtain satisfactorily.
 Conflict management is the principle that all
conflicts cannot necessarily be resolved, but
learning how to manage conflicts can decrease
the odds of non-productive escalation.
 Conflict management involves acquiring skills
related to conflict resolution, self-awareness
about conflict modes, conflict communication
skills, and establishing a structure for
management of conflict in your environment.

➢Jealously and possessiveness
TYPES OF CONFLCT
1. INDIVIDUAL
 It may arise within an individual.
 This happens when a person cannot reconcile
amongst his competing goals or when his
behavior is different from what is expected.
 There can be, thus, goal conflict and role
conflict.
2. INTERPERSONAL
 Interpersonal conflict refers to any type of
conflict involving two or more people.
 It occurs at same or different levels.
 It may be vertical or horizontal conflict.
3. INTER-GROUP
 Intergroup conflict refers to disagreements
that exist between two or more groups and
their respective members.
PROCESS OF CONFLICT
MANAGEMENT
It has five steps, which are as follows:
1. LATENT STAGE: The conditions for conflict
exist but have not been noticed.
2. PERCEIVED STAGE:The conflict and its
causes are recognized.
3. FELT STAGE: There is no real struggle yet but
tension is building up.
4. MANIFEST STAGE: The parties are engaged
in conflict, and it is apparent to others who are
not involved.
5. CONFLICT AFTERMATH: If the conflict has
been-

➢Resolved or
➢Managed

  • 2. CONFLICT MANAGEMENT MEANING  Conflict may be understood as collision or disagreement.  It is the struggle between opposing needs, wishes, ideas, interests or people.
  • 3.  Conflict arises when individuals or groups encounter goals that both parties cannot obtain satisfactorily.  Conflict management is the principle that all conflicts cannot necessarily be resolved, but learning how to manage conflicts can decrease the odds of non-productive escalation.
  • 4.  Conflict management involves acquiring skills related to conflict resolution, self-awareness about conflict modes, conflict communication skills, and establishing a structure for management of conflict in your environment.
  • 5. SOURCES OF CONFLICT ➢Money ➢Role of responsibility ➢Power struggle ➢Disagreement among partners ➢Jealously and possessiveness
  • 6. TYPES OF CONFLCT 1. INDIVIDUAL  It may arise within an individual.  This happens when a person cannot reconcile amongst his competing goals or when his behavior is different from what is expected.  There can be, thus, goal conflict and role conflict.
  • 7. 2. INTERPERSONAL  Interpersonal conflict refers to any type of conflict involving two or more people.  It occurs at same or different levels.  It may be vertical or horizontal conflict.
  • 8. 3. INTER-GROUP  Intergroup conflict refers to disagreements that exist between two or more groups and their respective members.
  • 9. PROCESS OF CONFLICT MANAGEMENT It has five steps, which are as follows: 1. LATENT STAGE: The conditions for conflict exist but have not been noticed. 2. PERCEIVED STAGE:The conflict and its causes are recognized. 3. FELT STAGE: There is no real struggle yet but tension is building up.
  • 10. 4. MANIFEST STAGE: The parties are engaged in conflict, and it is apparent to others who are not involved. 5. CONFLICT AFTERMATH: If the conflict has been- ➢Suppressed ➢Resolved or ➢Managed
