Handout used for Introduction to Computers class at the Westerville Public Library. Provides an introduction to the different hardware and software parts of a computer as well as functions such as using the mouse, navigating between windows, etc. (Information based on Microsoft Windows XP Professional operating system.)
It is necessary to understand the various computer components that comprise a personal computer system. It guides you on your first steps of the journey through the IT Essentials course.
3. The basic working principles of modern computers were
given in the 1940s by American scientists John von Neumann,
G. Goldstein and A. Beris. These principles were implemented
in 1946 in the United States with the creation of a universal
computer called ENIAC. This date is considered to be the date
of creation of modern computer technology.
Since then, computer hardware and technology began to
develop rapidly and went through several stages:
5.Computers with electronic lamps. They were mainly used to
solve mathematical problems.
6.electronic computers whose element base consists mainly of
semiconductors. Electronic lamps were replaced by
semiconductor elements - transistors and diodes. Their
functional capabilities have increased significantly.
7.Computers based on elemental microelectronics and
integrated circuits. The basis of this generation was IBM
360/370. Based on it, EC computers and other electronic
computers were created in the former USSR
8. Micro and Mini computers created with large and very large
integrated circuit technology.A separate class of this generation
is personal computers. Their creation was revolutionary
10.When most people hear the word computer, they
think of a personal computer such as
a desktop or laptop. However, computers come in
many shapes and sizes, and they perform many different
functions in our daily lives. When you withdraw cash
from an ATM, scan groceries at the store, or use a
calculator, you're using a type of computer.
11.Many people use desktop computers at work,
home, and school. Desktop computers are designed to
be placed on a desk, and they're typically made up of a
few different parts, including the computer
case, monitor, keyboard, and mouse
12.The second type of computer you may be familiar
with is a laptop computer, commonly called a laptop.
Laptops are battery-powered computers that are more
portable than desktops, allowing you to use them
almost anywhere
13.Tablet computers—or tablets—are handheld
computers that are even more portable than laptops.
Instead of a keyboard and mouse, tablets use a touchsensitive screen for typing and navigation. The iPad is
an example of a tablet
This presentation represents an introduction to computer. I used every beginning lecture in my courses "Instructional Technology" and "Computer Fundamentals and its Applications".
The computer as we know it today had its beginning with a 19th century English mathematics professor name Charles Babbage. He designed the Analytical Engine and it was this design that the basic framework of the computers.

Learning and development professionals are under pressure to produce real results. Many times the traditional methods of instructional design and content development are not getting the job done. We have to think differently on how to design, develop, and leverage technology to create learning experiences that actually impact performance and get the results that matter.
In this session you will learn the importance of building experiences in the form of online scenarios, simulations, and real-world on-the-job tasks. You’ll leave understanding better how to apply research-based guidelines to design, structure, and sequence experiences into optimized learning paths. You’ll see to how to leverage technology, especially mobile and the Experience API (formerly Tin Can) to deliver, capture, and track learning experiences. Finally, in this session you’ll see examples of how learning-experience designers are transforming how people learn professional, technical, sales, and leadership skills.
In this session, you will learn:
How to capture the experiences of experts
How to design effective learning experiences
How to sequence learning experiences into an optimized learning path
How to use mobile and the Experience API to capture and track real-world experience

Find out what the Westerville Public Library was up to in 2015, from our Meet the Authors series to Night at the Library to our very first Little Free Library.
The first pioneers came to Westerville using an Indian trail that became 161. More than 150 years passed before the completion of I-270 at Westerville Road. Vehicles changed from horse and oxen-drawn wagons to cars, trucks and motorcycles fueled by gas, diesel and electricity. The arrival of the train and trolley were greeted with great excitement by Westerville citizens but both disappeared as new forms of transportation became popular.
If those pioneers who came here 200 years ago could visit today, we can only imagine their shock at the changes in transportation: forests have become roads; bridges span the local creeks; airplanes occupy the sky with the birds; and cars travel busy highways at 70 miles per hour arriving quickly at their destinations.

2024.06.01 Introducing a competency framework for languag learning materials ...Sandy Millin
http://sandymillin.wordpress.com/iateflwebinar2024
Published classroom materials form the basis of syllabuses, drive teacher professional development, and have a potentially huge influence on learners, teachers and education systems. All teachers also create their own materials, whether a few sentences on a blackboard, a highly-structured fully-realised online course, or anything in between. Despite this, the knowledge and skills needed to create effective language learning materials are rarely part of teacher training, and are mostly learnt by trial and error.
Knowledge and skills frameworks, generally called competency frameworks, for ELT teachers, trainers and managers have existed for a few years now. However, until I created one for my MA dissertation, there wasn’t one drawing together what we need to know and do to be able to effectively produce language learning materials.
This webinar will introduce you to my framework, highlighting the key competencies I identified from my research. It will also show how anybody involved in language teaching (any language, not just English!), teacher training, managing schools or developing language learning materials can benefit from using the framework.

The Roman Empire A Historical Colossus.pdfkaushalkr1407
The Roman Empire, a vast and enduring power, stands as one of history's most remarkable civilizations, leaving an indelible imprint on the world. It emerged from the Roman Republic, transitioning into an imperial powerhouse under the leadership of Augustus Caesar in 27 BCE. This transformation marked the beginning of an era defined by unprecedented territorial expansion, architectural marvels, and profound cultural influence.
The empire's roots lie in the city of Rome, founded, according to legend, by Romulus in 753 BCE. Over centuries, Rome evolved from a small settlement to a formidable republic, characterized by a complex political system with elected officials and checks on power. However, internal strife, class conflicts, and military ambitions paved the way for the end of the Republic. Julius Caesar’s dictatorship and subsequent assassination in 44 BCE created a power vacuum, leading to a civil war. Octavian, later Augustus, emerged victorious, heralding the Roman Empire’s birth.
Under Augustus, the empire experienced the Pax Romana, a 200-year period of relative peace and stability. Augustus reformed the military, established efficient administrative systems, and initiated grand construction projects. The empire's borders expanded, encompassing territories from Britain to Egypt and from Spain to the Euphrates. Roman legions, renowned for their discipline and engineering prowess, secured and maintained these vast territories, building roads, fortifications, and cities that facilitated control and integration.
The Roman Empire’s society was hierarchical, with a rigid class system. At the top were the patricians, wealthy elites who held significant political power. Below them were the plebeians, free citizens with limited political influence, and the vast numbers of slaves who formed the backbone of the economy. The family unit was central, governed by the paterfamilias, the male head who held absolute authority.
Culturally, the Romans were eclectic, absorbing and adapting elements from the civilizations they encountered, particularly the Greeks. Roman art, literature, and philosophy reflected this synthesis, creating a rich cultural tapestry. Latin, the Roman language, became the lingua franca of the Western world, influencing numerous modern languages.
Roman architecture and engineering achievements were monumental. They perfected the arch, vault, and dome, constructing enduring structures like the Colosseum, Pantheon, and aqueducts. These engineering marvels not only showcased Roman ingenuity but also served practical purposes, from public entertainment to water supply.
