INTERNET
ABOUT INTERNET
The Internet is the global system of
interconnected computer networks that use
the Internet protocol suite (TCP/IP) to link
billions of devices worldwide. It is a network of
networks that consists of millions of private,
public, academic, business, and government
networks of local to global scope, linked by a
broad arrayof electronic, wireless, and
opticalnetworking technologies.
The term Internet, when used to refer to the
specific global system of interconnected
Internet Protocol (IP) networks, is a proper
noun[9] and may be written with an initial
capital letter. In common use and the media, it
is often not capitalized, viz. the internet.
TERMIOLOGIES RELATED TO
INTERNET
BLOGS - A blog is a web site made up of
entries, which are called "posts." Blogs can
focus on a wide range of topics from politics to
food art, and sometimes consist of only the
author's thoughts and experiences (much like
an online journal). Blogs are typically run and
written by one person, but organizations or
groups of people may collaborate on a blog
with each member providing a new viewpoint
or information.
HTTP-The Hypertext Transfer
Protocol (HTTP) is an
application protocol for
distributed, collaborative,
hypermedia information
systems. HTTP is the
foundation of data
communication for the World
Wide Web. Hypertext is
structured text that uses
logical links (hyperlinks)
between nodes containing
text.
FTP-The File Transfer Protocol (FTP) is a standard network
protocol used to transfer computer files between a client
and server on a computer network. FTP is built on a client-
server model architecture and uses separate control and
data connections between the client and the server.
URL - A URL is one type of Uniform Resource Identifier (URI); the generic term for
all types of names and addresses that refer to objects on the World Wide Web.
The term "Web address" is a synonym for a URL that uses the HTTP or HTTPS
protocol
Broadband - A high-speed connection to the
Internet is known as broadband. There are
several types of broadband connections, such
as cable, DSL (Digital Subscriber Line), and
fiber-optic. Fiber-optic connection is both the
newest and fastest method of Internet
connectivity thus far.
Browser - A browser, also called a web
browser, is a software program that allows the
user to access and browse the World Wide
Web. There are many different browsers
available, such as Internet Explorer, Firefox,
and Chrome. Each browser has a different
visual design and unique features.
Cloud Computing - Cloud computing is when
data is processed and stored on the Internet,
usually hosted by a business or company,
instead of on a personal computer or server.
The "cloud" portion of the term is just another
name for the Internet. This can be a useful way
to store data if there isn't much room on a
personal hard-drive, but the data can only be
accessed through an Internet connection.
Download - The process of downloading refers
to receiving data on a personal computer or
computer system when the data itself is stored
on another computer or on the Internet itself.
A download may be anything from a
PowerPoint presentation to a music file.
Email - Email refers to messages sent
electronically between two or more users. It
can be written as either "email" or "e-mail",
and the word may be used as both a noun and
a verb. An email service like Yahoo! or MSN
will provide users with a personal email
address, which can be used to direct an email
to a specific recipient.
Encryption and Authentication -
Authentication and encryption help make sure
that any data transmitted over the Internet is
done so securely. Authentication makes sure
that both users are legitimate, and that they
are not impersonating another user or web
site. Encryption helps make sure that the data
transmitted is only transmitted between the
two users in question, and is protected from
being read by a third party.
Firewall - A firewall is a piece of software that
helps prevent a computer from being attacked
by online viruses or hackers. Most computers
come with a firewall installed, but there are
plenty of programs available online for
download.
SERVICES OF COMPUTERThe Internet is the global system of
interconnected computer networks that use
the Internet protocol suite (TCP/IP) to link
billions of devices worldwide
. It is a network of networks that consists of
millions of private, public, academic, business,
and government networks of local to global
scope, linked by a broad array of electronic,
wireless, and optical networking technologies.
The Internet carries an extensive range of
information resources and services, such as
the inter-linked hypertext documents and
applications of the World Wide Web (WWW),
electronic mail, telephony, and peer-to-peer
networks for file sharing.
Most traditional communications media,
including telephony, radio, television, paper
mail and newspapers are being reshaped or
redefined by the Internet, giving birth to new
services such as email, Internet telephony,
Internet television music and video streaming
websites.
Newspaper, book, and other print
publishing are adapting to website
technology, or are reshaped into blogging,
web feeds and online news aggregators
(e.g., Google News). The entertainment
industry was initially the fastest growing
segment on the Internet.
USAGE OF INTERNET

It is reported that the first thing that 90 % of Internet users do when they
connected to the net is to check if they have received any emails. Internet has
drastically changed the mail pattern and has made it incredibly fast.

SEARCH ENGINES
A web search engine is a software system that
is designed to search for information on the
World Wide Web. The search results are
generally presented in a line of results often
referred to as search engine results pages
(SERPs). The information may be a mix of web
pages, images, and other types of files. Some
search engines also mine data available in
databases or open directories. Unlike web
directories, which are maintained only by
human editors, search engines also maintain
real-time information by running an algorithm
on a web crawler.
TYPES OF SEARCH
ENGINES
Yahoo Inc. is an American multinational
technology company headquartered in
Sunnyvale, California. Yahoo was founded by
Jerry Yang and David Filo in January 1994 and
was incorporated on March 2, 1995.
Google is an American

like malware due to its bundling with other
software and the difficulty of its uninstallation.
Bing is a web search engine owned and
operated by Microsoft. The service has its
origins in Microsoft's previous search engines:
MSN Search, Windows Live Search and later
Live Search. Bing provides a variety of search

principles of Microsoft's "Metro" design
language.
