2. • Introduction
• Activity 1: Testing different kinds of ice
• Activity 2: Hunting for composite materials
• Activity 3: Testing materials for strength and
stiffness
• Activity 4:Testing a foam composte for strength
and stiffness
• Design Project (Designing a fishing pole)
• Product Idea: Fire Extinguisher with tire
3. Composite materials
is a material made from two or more
constituent materials with significantly
different physical or chemical properties
4. Sample (1) : water only
Sample (2) : Water + Tissue
Sample (3) : Water + wood + straw + cotton
Conclusion : Sample (3) was the strongest one
and
Sample (1) was the weakest one.
Ice Composite is stronger than pure ice.
5. We searched around us for composite materials.
Industrial composites
Car tires
Natural
Composites : bone
6. We tested Some Materials for strength and
Flexibility:
Pasta ,Iron ,nylon ,wood ,Plastic.
Iron is the strongest one while pasta is the
weakest one
7. 1- Plain foam beams
2-Foam Beam With One Side Paper
3-Foam Beam With two side Paper
The last beam was the strongest of all samples.
8. The fishing pole must be:
1. Strong
2. lightweight
3. flexible
The materials that we used:
1- Rope
2- Cotton
3- Small Wood
4- straw
9. We'll put the small tire down the Big fire
extinguishers In order to help people to
carry the big sized fire extinguishers.
10. The fire extinguishers are heavy to be carried , so
we think that adding the tires to the fire
extinguishers will make it easy to be moved.
11. Our product consists of small Tire and fire
extinguishers . The tires will be joined down
the fire extinguishers
12. It will help old people and women to carry the
fire extinguishers easily and this will decrease
the fire accidents
13. We recommend Our product to be used in all
the public places (Hospitals, Schools and malls)
as the fire cause many hazards and cause death
of many people.
14. We learned a lot about Composites and the
importance of composite Materials in our lives.
Now, we know how to do a presentation and
how to think of creative ideas
15. Many thanks to AL-Bairaq team from Center for Advanced
Materials (CAM), Qatar University for supporting us
during our journey with a AL-Bairaq.
Also, I would like to thank the sponsors UNESCO, Qatar
National Commission, Ras Gas, Maersk and Shell.
