Comparison And Contrast Essay
Crafting a comparison and contrast essay can be an intricate endeavor, demanding careful
analysis, critical thinking, and adept writing skills. At its core, this type of essay requires a deep
understanding of the subjects being compared or contrasted, along with the ability to discern
meaningful similarities and differences between them.
One of the challenges lies in selecting suitable subjects for comparison. Finding two topics that
are sufficiently similar yet distinct enough to generate insightful comparisons can be a daunting
task in itself. Once chosen, delving into the nuances of each subject, identifying key points of
comparison, and organizing them in a coherent manner requires patience and meticulous
attention to detail.
Furthermore, striking a balance between comparison and contrast is essential. Simply listing
similarities and differences without providing meaningful analysis can render the essay
superficial and unengaging. Conversely, delving too deeply into analysis without drawing clear
comparisons can obscure the essay's purpose and confuse the reader.
Crafting a compelling thesis statement that encapsulates the main points of comparison and sets
the direction for the essay is crucial. This statement serves as a roadmap for both the writer and
the reader, guiding the exploration of similarities and differences throughout the essay.
Structuring the essay effectively is another challenge. Whether employing a point-by-point or
block method of organization, ensuring logical coherence and smooth transitions between
paragraphs is essential for clarity and readability.
Moreover, maintaining objectivity while presenting comparisons and avoiding bias towards one
subject over the other requires careful consideration. Striving for fairness and accuracy in
portraying each subject ensures the essay's credibility and enhances its persuasive power.
In conclusion, writing a comparison and contrast essay demands meticulous planning, analytical
prowess, and effective communication skills. Navigating through the complexities of selecting,
analyzing, and organizing subjects for comparison requires diligence and critical thinking.
However, with dedication and effort, crafting a compelling essay that illuminates meaningful
similarities and differences can be a rewarding intellectual endeavor.

The Lasting Effects of the Columbian Exchange During the Age of Discovery
It should no longer come as any great surprise that Columbus was not the first to
discover the Americas Carthaginians, Vikings, and even St. Brendan may have set
foot on the Western Hemisphere long before Columbus crossed the Atlantic. But
none of these incidental contacts made the impact that Columbus did. Columbus and
company were bound to bring more than the benefits of Christianity and double entry
bookkeeping to America. His voyages started the Columbian Exchange, a
hemispherical swap of peoples, plants, animals and diseases that transformed not
only the world he had discovered but also the one he had left.

He enormously increased the number of kinds of foods and quantities of food by
both plant and animal sources. New food crops have enabled people to live in places
where they previously had only slim means of feeding themselves. Each new cargo
brought new changes to the European diet, helping to improve eating and
strengthening national identities with cultural foods. Some of the exotic new crops
had humble beginnings; before the tomato made its way into European diets, it was a
weed in the Aztec maize fields. The potatoes which hung on to Spanish ships wasn t
welcomed at first either; Europeans found it unappetizing. But packing more calories
per acre than any European grain, the potato eventually became the dominant food of
northern Europe s working class.
A few of the other plants that took root in the European palate was the cacao bean
for chocolate, lima beans, corn, peanuts, pumpkins, squash, cashews, and pineapples.
Sunflowers, petunias, marigolds and poinsettias also made their way to Europe.
Several other plants of importance include quinine, tobacco, and sugar cane. Quinine
is a malaria fighting plant found in the Peruvian Andes. Sugar cane is especially
important because of its impact on slavery. While originally a European plant, it
thrived in tropical American forests. Scholars estimate that each ton of sugar cost the
life on one worker in the New World. As Indians perished, African slaves

school lunch. The aim of this study was to compare the daily intake of nutrients of
children and adolescents between a pizza product meeting the US Department of

White Zombie Apocalypse
Anyone paying attention has had the privilege of seeing the rotting, disheveled,
missing limb creature inhabiting society in a sensational way. Dating back thousands
of years, zombies were integrated into American society with [the] depiction of the
zombie from 19th century Haitian voodooism (Crockett, 2016) leading to the zombie
epidemic existing today. The dawn of the dead has reigned from as early as the
1930s and now a spin off concept has emerged. A zombie apocalypse has influenced
modern day media such as movies, TV shows and videogames: reflecting the viewers
worst fears and adapting the generation.
The first recorded zombie film White Zombie (1932) told a tale of a white couple
who had an encounter with a Haitian voodoo master. During these years,
spiritualism was at its highest White Zombie stroke America s worst fear of
voodoo aiming to destroy love. Many films proceeded White Zombie, all carrying
the same infectious fear of witchcraft. It wasn t until the 1940s that zombies no

what they represented. In Romero s zombie films, he made the dead appear more
alive with more gruesome and violent ways. Throughout the years, writers or

closer to vicious annihilating creatures. Movies such as; World War Z, Pride and

Occurrence Of Abuse On The Childhoods Of Serial Killers
Occurrence of Abuse in the Childhoods of Serial Killers
Danielle E. Higgins
University of Southern Indiana
Abstract
Many factors contribute to the inner workings of a serial killer. One of the most
prominent seems to be the incidence of some type or multiples types of childhood
abuse. This paper discusses the different types of child abuse that could contribute to
qualities of a serial killer, including several well known serial murderers. It also
discusses the different types of serial killers and the characteristics that each type
portrays.
Occurrence of Abuse in the Childhoods of Serial Killers
Serial murder is one of the most horrific acts that a person can commit. Multiple
murder can be broken down into three different types: mass murder, spree murder,
and serial murder (Knight, 2006). Mass murder involves killing three or more
individuals in one place during one short time span, spree murder involves killing
three or more individuals within a time period of 30 days, and serial murder is
killing three or more individuals over a time span of more than 30 days with a
cooling off period between the murders, being anywhere from days, weeks, months,
or even many years (Knight, 2006). In this paper, I am going to focus on the latter
serial killers.
Many researchers are interested in serial killers, mainly to figure out why these
people kill the way that they do. Anderson (1994), compares serial killers to addicts
alcoholics, gamblers, drug abusers, etc. they all seem to have
Essay On Charter Schools
Charter Schools On the Rise Charter schools seem to be on the rise in America. With
the recent spike in charter schools across the country, states have begun research on
whether or not to allow the forming of charter schools. Community groups, parents,
and cities all have the power to start a charter school if the respective state allows the
forming of these lucrative schools. These schools have their pros and their cons;
however states must decide whether or not one outweighs the other. Public schools
have set curricula the students take throughout the years, while charter schools can
set their own curricula that the students must take. Other differences between charter
and public schools include district boundaries, the ability to have... Show more

Naomi Calvo and Karen Hawley Miles explain in Turning Crisis into Opportunity ,
an article for Educational Leadership in 2011, take City High, a charter school in
Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, as an example of how charter schools are not having a
negative impact on students and are, in fact, having a positive impact on student
performance. The student population is about half black and half white, 60 percent
are eligible for free or reduced price lunch, and 11 percent receive special education
services (Calvo and Miles). These statistics suggest that students are receiving
excellent grades and are having no problems going to school with a variety of
cultures, as stated by the student population being about half white and half black.
The dramatic percentage of students receiving incentives for their grades is an
extremely strong piece of evidence in support of charter schools and evidence that
states should strongly consider when making laws for or in opposition to charter
schools. Not only does this evidence support the fact that people think that charter
schools have a positive impact on student performance, there is also evidence that
charter schools are not taking funds away from surrounding
The Robber Bridegroom Analysis
These inconsistencies and contradictions has not only broken the belief that non
fiction meant true (Atwood, In Search 1513), problematizing the absolute authority
and authenticity of historical materials, and therefore the primitivity and purity of
the authoritative discourse achieved by these official materials, but also left Atwood
a gap to fill in the light of her own need to empower the other being in the marginal
and invisible position of the power relationship to speak. By way of reconstructing
the literary canon, Atwood in The Robber Bride also satisfies this need. Joe
Weixlmann once pointed out the fact of literary canon that the vast majority of the
writers canonized in this country are white males of European decent, coupled...

Furthermore, in the novel, while listening to the story of The Robber Bridegroom,
Liz s twin daughters insisted to turn all male roles to female roles, which
corresponds to the whole theme of the novel. Grimm s The Robber Bridegroom as
a traditional European fairy tale written in 1812, more or less, inevitably, complies
with what the higher class demand in morals in keeping with the Protestant ethic
and a patriarchal notion of sex roles in attempt to educate children and appeal to
the morals and virtues of middle class readers (Jack Zipes,в…№в…№в…µ).
Though it appears a hero such as the Miller s daughter defeating the vicious man in
its ending, which seems to reverse the sex role of that time, however, in fact,
female characters cannot escape their presupposed images at all women are
delineated either as victim or as behaving goodness like an angle such as Miller s
daughter. By adapting this fairy tale, Atwood has completely reversed the sex roles
of men and women, subverting those virtues and morals of female imposed by the
patriarchal
Nozick s Theory Of False Reality
Our perception of the world around us is entirely dependant on the validity of
reality. Our world could be produced or simulated by some sort of machine, or life
is actually just a dream someone dreamt up one night. Reality is dependent on our
perception, which is affected by what truly exists. Meaning that if we, as a single
person, are the only thing that actually exists, then that proves that reality is
indeed not real. But considering this point is considered Solipsism, there s enough
evidence to go against it. Disproving solipsism is the key to support the idea that
reality is real. The philosophical theory of a false reality can be traced all the way
back to Plato s Allegory of the Cave, where 3 prisoners are trapped in a cave and...

And if that is the case, then there is a good chance that other people don t exist as
well. Of course, even if the world around us isn t true, humanity could all be under
the same illusion. As Hilary Putnam puts it, Instead of having just one brain in a vat,
we could imagine that all human beings (perhaps all sentient beings) are brains in a
vat (or nervous systems in a vat in case some beings with just nervous systems count
as sentient ). Of course, the evil scientist would have to be outside? or would he?
Perhaps there is no evil scientist, perhaps (though this is absurd) the universe just
happens to consist of automatic machinery tending a vat full of brains and nervous
systems. This time let us suppose that the automatic machinery is programmed to
give us all a collective hallucination, rather than a number of separate unrelated
hallucinations. Thus, when I seem to myself to be talking to you, you seem

The Method Observed Was The Direct Method

Summary
The method observed was the Direct Method. The teacher spoke Catalan (the target
language) from the very first moment she arrived in class greeting the students with
the words bona tarda . First, she started the lesson by writing on the blackboard parts
del dia , el matГ , la tarda and la nit . In order to explain the meaning of such words
she showed the gesture of waking up and then she turned on and off the light of the
room twice. The teacher continued to explain the meaning of the words with
drawings on the blackboard: a sun next to the word sol , a star next to the word
estrella , a moon next to the word lluna and a cloud next to the word nГєvols .
Second, she opened a book and read the first two lines. To explain the meaning of
what was just read she moved around the classroom and illustrated verbs trough
actions. For example, to explain the word perdre (to lose) she acted as she was
looking for something around the room. Next she asked the students, again in the
target language, to read aloud a couple of sentences one by one. After each student
read the teacher used gestures and pictures to explain what was written in the text. In
order to explain the word paГs she made an example in Catalan using students
personal factors: Italia es un paГs . While reading the book she showed images that
represented what was happening in the story; each line had a different image that

The New Colossus
The New Colossus by Emma Lazarus is the poem that stands at the base of the Statue
of Liberty. Its beautiful message conveys a warm welcome to immigrants and greets
them into the country. It is often overlooked, however it is the element that makes
the piece so meaningful. The New Colossus by Emma Lazarus theme consists of
America opening its doors to those who need help, and this is illustrated through its
elegant symbolism. The theme of the New Colossuscontains snippets of information
that convey a warm welcome to the incoming immigrants. For instance, sea washed,
sunset gates (Lazarus 3) represent the hospitableness of the mouths of the Hudson
and East Rivers, to the west of Brooklyn. Additionally, the air bridged harbor that twin
Benefits Of Being A Good Job
As a 35 year old woman I have struggled a lot with finances. Being head of the
household and single mother of three boys it is not an easy task. I always thought
that having a good job was the answer o everything. Recently this year in 2014 I
lost my job of fourteen years where I used to make more than sixty thousand
dollars a year. I previously thought that was good money. Until I lost my job. I was
living for a couple of months out of my 401k but one that money is done then
what. After only five months or maybe less my 401k money was gone and I yet
still did not find a job. I then realized if only somebody had educated me how to
manage money and be financially knowledgeable I could not only have managed that
money better but I also could have made better financial decisions and I sure could
have had other methods of financial income other than just my 401k. That s one I
thought to myself if only financial educationcould have been educated to me when I
was in high school. I do not remember ever receiving financial education except for
in math class and the teacher would teach us how to count using money and maybe
they mentioned once or twice how to do accounting. I do also hear some friends
stated that they were educated in economics on how to write a check and balance a
checking account. As I was experiencing my own financial difficulties I would hear
the news on America has been struggling on getting out of the recession that started
in 2007. I related to not only my
Operation Anaconda Case Study Analysis
Operation Anaconda Case Study When it comes to succeeding at anything, it is
important to plan, prepare, and rehears the outcome. In a combat zone, this becomes
even more important because lives and the success of the mission depend on it. This
was not the case however, during a fight called Operation Anaconda. The purpose of
this paper is to point out what went wrong with the lack of planning, coordination,
rehearsal, and preparation between Air and ground communications, and how it
proved to be critical during Operation Anaconda. The ending results were a delayed

Major Mark Davis conducted extensive interviews on this topic with air, ground, and
special operations commanders, staff officers, and other forces that participated in
Operation Anaconda. In his research, Davis found some major problems had
occurred that caused a failure in coordination efforts. The first error Davis sighted
was that the DOD failed to establish proper command structures and relationships
needed for integration among the systems (MacPherson 2005, p. 350). This made it
difficult for air and ground forces to communicate among each other when the battle
was underway. Davis also sites that U.S. Central Command Chief Franks, made a
costly decision to command the war from his office in Tampa, Florida. He was 7,000
miles and 10 time zones away from the battle front. Chief Franks believed that rather
than move himself and his unit, would speed up the operating progress and not slow
down the mission. Franks and his command relied on video phone conferences
instead of personal communications, which led to limited communications. Another
problem was that Franks gave lists of plans to be carried out rather than one battle
plan. Also, because of the large numbers of independent units that participated, it was
impossible for Franks to maintain communication presence and coordinate over this
large command structure. This ultimately left decision making in the hands of

Count Camillo Benso Di Cavour
Count Camillo Benso di Cavour was a man born into Italian politics during a time
where the divided peninsula was in constant turmoil which was largely due to the
many shifts in power throughout the many territories of Italy. Descending from a
noble family and having both marquis for a father and a mother who was the lady
in waiting to the princess at the time (who was the first Napoleon s sister), Cavour
had the chance early on to observe politics (Botta, pg. 6). What he largely had the
chance to see was the great divisions that plagued the governments of Italyas it fell
from France control. While he was attending the Military Academy of Turin, he found
himself hired as the page to Charles Albert, the heir at the time to the throne of
Sardinia (Botta, pg. 7). Eventually dismissed by Albert and allowed to return to his
studies at the Academy, Cavour soon had the opportunity to tour the country
through his rapid progression through the ranks. After his service, Cavour sought to
delve deeper into the politics all around him. In addition to studying political
science and political economics, he had the opportunity to watch the political
changes of England and France (the French Revolution). He is quoted as having
said to an English friend in one of his numerous letter that While all of Europe is
walking with a firm step in the path of progress, unhappy Italy is always borne down
under the same system of civil and religious tyranny. (Botta, pg. 9). He elaborates
later that
Margaret Sanger s Revolution For Women s Rights
Margaret Sanger s Revolution for Women s Rights Today the world s population

and the other half women. Now imagine living in a world where those seven billion
people didn t have rights connected to their own bodies. In the field of reproductive
rights, imagine if there was no form of contraceptives, birth control, or any type of
sexual education information to the public. The world would be in shambles being
over populated beyond capacity for life on Earth. This have might have been the
case if it weren t for the advocate in her field called Margaret Sanger. Sanger was a

Upon becoming a nurse she took care of many poor families in the urban
overcrowded streets of families that lived in New York. One particular case she
always told was the story of Sadie Sachs which influenced her to really do
something about women s rights and control over their own bodies. That
influenced me to pick her to write and research about her. As the story went Sanger
said, Sadie had developed an infection from an illegal abortion and begged Sanger
and the doctor to tell her how to prevent another child, thinking it would kill her.
The doctor scoffed at her remark and promptly left, leaving Sachs with Sanger. She
begged for her to tell her a way to prevent conception, but Sanger could not tell her
anything, as it was illegal, (Katzive, 2015, p. 128). She felt enraged by how she
couldn t simply help a women in need of wanting to learn how to prevent herself
from having any more children. After the incident she met her future husband,
William Sanger and together they had three children. Not only did William give
Margaret the gift of children and a family, but also gave her the opportunity to
finally share her knowledge of the topic pertaining to women and the use of
contraception. Since William belonged the Socialist Party, Sanger became affiliated
with The New York Call. This was a socialist newspaper where not only did she
write a column on birth control, but later she got an opportunity to create her own
newspaper which was called The Woman Rebel.
Food Ban Research Paper
Should government have the freedom to limit its citizens freedom? The answer is
yes but the question is how much and for what reasons. The ban on large sugary
drinks more than 16 ounce at food service establishments proposed by The New
York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg sparked a heated debate over this question.
Proponents of the ban justified it by citing studies which showed excessive amount of
sugar causes obesity and has many other serious negative effects on health. They
argued that such consequences have negative effect for the whole society, in form of
additional health care and social welfarecost. Opponents of the ban argued that it
imposes an unjustified and unnecessary limit on personal freedom, does not reach the
intended goal of limiting obesity, and sets precedent for excessive government
overreach. Both sides have strong arguments, I am inclined to side with the
opponents of the ban mainly because I am wary of unnecessary government
overreach but I am on the border and ready to change my opinion in future.
In June 2012, Bloomberg announced that food service establishments should ... Show

In this case a proponent of the deal can argue that scientific research leaves no doubt
that excessive consumption of sugary beverages is harmful. As a result the
government has a moral obligation to ban it even if it only hurts the consumer and no
one else. To oppose this argument in a utilitarian context, the opponent must show
that the ban does not lead to the intended consequences. They can argue that the ban
does not include supermarkets, so the consumer can go and buy as much sugary
beverage he/she wants somewhere else.
In a legal context the question is whether based on the constitution and other
governing laws in the country and the state, the city officials have the legal authority
to impose such a ban. According to the New York judiciary system they
Coronary Artery Disease Is The Most Common Type Of
Heart...
Coronary Artery Disease is the most common type of heart disease and is the
leading cause of death in the United States in both men and women. It is caused by a
buildup of cholesterol and other materials on the inner walls of arteries. The buildup
is called atherosclerosis. As the buildup grows the heartgets less and less blood
supply thereby depleting it of oxygen. This eventually leads to chest pain (angina) or
a heart attack which is usually caused by a clot that suddenly breaks off the hearts
blood supply which causes permanent heart damage. Over time, if this condition
continues it can eventually lead to heart failure and arrhythmias. An arrhythmia is a
change in the heart s normal beating process (MedlinePlus 2015). Coronary Artery
disease is caused by damage or injury to the inner layer of a coronary artery and can
be caused by a number of factors. Some of them are; smoking, high blood pressure,
high cholesterol, diabetes or insulin resistance, and/or a sedentary lifestyle. After
the wall of an artery is damaged it makes it much easier for fatty deposits (plaque)
such as cholesterol and other fatty waste products to build up on the linings of artery
walls. This process is known as atherosclerosis. If this plaque breaks or ruptures
platelets will clump at the site to try and repair the artery, but this can also block
the arteries which can lead to a heart attack. The main factors that place a person at
risk for this disease are age, as getting older is

Essay On The Tabernacle
Chapter 7
The Tabernacle of the Old Testament The words tabernacle and temple can be
confusing; let me in a simple way explain the difference. Firstly the tabernacle is the
English translation of the Hebrew word ЧћЦґЧ©ЧЃЦ°Ч›ЦјЦёЧџ mishkan , which
simply means residence or dwelling place. According to the Hebrew Bible this was a
portable dwelling place for the presence of God, from the time of the Exodus to the
conquering of the Promise Land (Canaan). In contrast the temple is the English
translation of the Hebrew word Ч”ЦµЧ™Ч›ЦёЧњ heykal , meaning a large public
building. Unlike the tabernacle, the temple was stationary and also called the palace
of Jehovah . It was an elaborately ordained holy place where the people congregated
to worship God.
I will focus this chapter on the original tabernacle, which was God s idea, initiative,
design and plan constructed by Moses. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In the building of the tabernacle the people came together in obedience to the Word
of God given through Moses. I will not go into the specific measurements of the
tabernacle, but I will say its total square area was 7,500sq.ft. I will explore the three
compartments of the tabernacle, the contents that are within them, and also the
connection between the tabernacle and its relevance to worship in Moses time and
how it is symbolic of today s worship.
There are three compartments within the tabernacle: the Outer Court where the
brazen altar and the washbasin are, then walking through a veiled curtain was the
Holy Place (also known as the inner court) where the menorah, the table of
showbread and the altar of incense was placed, and finally the Holy of Holies where
the ark of the covenant was found.

Film Analysis Of The Movie Training Day
A major industry that catches the attention of individuals with different genders,
ages and backgrounds is the movie industry. The visual representation of police
officers in films can alter a person s understanding of the law enforcement. Police
officers are portrayed by two sides; good or bad. The movie I will be closely
analyzing is called Training Day. This movie depicts many topics we have covered
throughout this course. The movie directed by Antoine Fuqua and written by David
Ayer, was released on October 5, 2001. This movie follows two Los Angeles Police
Department officers. Detective Alonzo Harris, played by award winning Denzel
Washington, is a veteran officer, and Officer Jake Hoyt, played by Ethan Hawke, is

Hoyt figured out Harris stole money, when the wife was screaming crooked cop
and yelling they took my money. The neighborhood gangsters then shot at the
officers. Detective Harris is repeatedly putting both of their lives in danger. Later
in the day, they met with more corrupt cops. The conversation was to discuss the
issue between the Russian Mafia and Detective Harris. The Russian Mafia was
going to kill Detective Harris unless he pays them 1 million dollars or he will be
killed. This situation was the result of Detective Harris killing one of their
members. The final draw was seizing four million dollars from Roger s house by
using an arrest warrant that had to be purchased. Roger was a retired officer and
now drug a dealer. He was also Harris s first training officer. Four other narcotics
officers were involved. The plan was to take the money and kill Rogers. All the
guys agreed, except Hoyt. Harris killed Rodger and shot at the other guy to make it
looked staged. Hoyt did not have a choice in the matter as he and his family were
threatened. After, they went to a house which belonged to a Mexican mafia. Harris
planned to get Hoyt killed. The leader of the house was going to kill Hoyt, but first
had someone check his pockets for money. It turned out, Hoyt kept the wallet of the
girl he protected earlier that day. Ironically, the girl was the leader s cousin. Surviving

decrease our uses of productive resources; by using more energy efficient

Accounting Information Systems
Chapter One
As accounting students we have studied a variety of accounting areas involving
financial and taxes. The accounting information course appears to be a course that
heads in a different direction then what we as students have become accustomed to.
Speaking for myself I have always been drawn to the accounting field because it is a
black and white area. In other words, there it is organized and has right and wrong
answers, this leaving out the gray areas between right and wrong.
Accounting information systems appears to be throwing us into a whole new area of
the study of accounting. The fine line between right and wrong is becoming smudged
into a gray area. With accounting information system we are being thrown into an area

One of the groups is sponsored/commercial information that has the main interest
of making a profit by selling products and their services. The second type is going
to be popular/practitioner information and is put through a review process. Both of
these groups can be bias but the second group will usually be trustworthy.
However, we will need to keep in mind that the writer of the second group may
have a motive. The third group is the scholarly information group which also has
been put through a review process. This third group is written by people with higher
degrees and can be hard for undergraduates to interpret. Information on accounting
information systems will need to be reviewed and looked over carefully to make
sure that it is valid information and something that we should really consider before it
is used.
I have chosen these points in the text as important ones because the conceptual
framework is one that we should become familiar with because it should be there
throughout our education and follow us into our careers because it was developed
to be used as a guide for any future accounting principle. The construction of an
accounting information system is also important because we are going to need to
know what the accounting information system is constructed of because there may
be a day that we will be asked to help with the development and we should know the
basic concept of it and what it is.

Media Activism In Social Media
Introduction
With the influx of social media use, the way activism is conducted also has to
adapt to the changing times. It is so easy for students, leaders, and other individuals
to tweet or post about their political view or support for a movement. President
Trump has used twitter as one of his biggest social media platforms. The biggest
question now is if social media activism works?
The two biggest social media platforms that activists use are Twitter and Facebook.
The hashtag was created by twitter and launched in August 2007. In 2016, there was a
total of 1.3 billion accounts created, there are reports that 24 million accounts are
bots. There are 24.6% journalists on twitter. 83% of world leaders on twitter, and
79% of accounts are held outside of the USA. There are 500 million tweets daily.
With 500 million tweets, daily (Smith 2016). Looking at Facebook, there are 2
billion monthly active users (Sparks 2017). With more than 50 million businesses
that have pages, with 70% of companies outside of the USA (Dawney 2016).
Since, social media activism is so new, there are two different beliefs about the topic.
One group believes that the hashtag and social media activism is not enough. Shonda
Rhimes, who is the producer of TV shows Greys Anatomy and Scandal, when she
States, A hashtag is not helping. She talked a lot about how just posting a hashtag
and continuing on in normal life is not helping at her 2014 commencement speech at

Acadian Women Summary
Just from looking at the title of the article Acadian Women and French Colonial
society in eighteenth century Louisbourg, we can easily see the topic that Anne
Marie Lane Jonah and Elizabeth Tait would be focussing their discussion on. The
overall summary of the article is the discussion of Acadian Women and their
families having to uproot everything they own and moving to a new French colony
in Isle Royale after the defeat of Port Royal .These families would move from
Mainland Nova Scotiato the City of Louisbourg, Cape Breton Island. Once in their
new home, the Acadians realize that they are in a new society that is unknown to
them. The article continues with a breakdown of the process these Acadian women

The authors begin by examining colonial records which are a type of primary source
that is very credible, in the sense, it is likely a government recorded document at
that time which would have information regarding the transition from mainland
Nova Scotia to what is now Louisbourg . This source, in general, is a good one but
doesn t completely back up the thesis of this article. The second primary source
that is used by Jonah and Tait is an archaeological investigation of Acadian
agricultural households. This is an incredible source that they picked because this
source allows us to understand what the structure of these people s homes would
be like in the 18th century. I m not sure exactly where the writers get this
information for this next source, but I do believe it is a secondary source worth
mentioning. Two historians named Maurice Basque and Josette Brun has
gathered examples of Acadian women who have stepped out in wanting to
participate in the public realm .This would be very credible source because
historians do a lot of research into their topics and often get their work published in
books. The last primary source which I find very interesting and the most credible
out of this article would be the estate inventory of Jeanne Thibodeau article
concludes with. This source not only is a very rare document but is very
interesting in the fact it allows the reader to get a sense of what people in this
decade would of own for clothes as well as any other personal items. All of these
sources are very good and appropriate in the context of this article and its
Auto Repair Of A Family Owned Small Business Essay
A family owned small business is defined as, a corporation that is entirely owned by
the members of a single family. (IFC, 2016) For a family owned business to succeed
it, must establish and maintain the following attributes, the family s commitment and
ability to carry on the business, the ownership structure, meaning having enough
capital to grow and having the most capable individuals in the right positions to run
the business. It must have a strong governance of the company and a dynamic
portfolio to allow for further growth. In addition, wealth managementis key in
maintaining the businesses current wealth and securing it for future generations,
which leads to either creating or engaging with foundations to help promote the
family values from generation to generation. (Casper, Dias, Elstrodt 2010) I chose
to examine the auto repair business, as my husband owns an auto repair and resale
shop, therefore I am more familiar with this industry of family owned businesses
than other types of family owned businesses. The auto repair business has been
around for many years and is not about to go anywhere, anytime soon. The target
market is anyone with a car. Cars are required to be maintained and repaired in
order for them to run. Most American s rely on their vehicles to get them to work,
to school, and so on. According to, Sageworks, people are holding on to their cars
longer and more people who do not own cars are in the market to become car owners.

those concepts within his book which helped people in not only to grow and change
but, to become more effective in any aspect of human responsibility that anyone can

Symbolism In Dr Jekyll And Hyde
Furthermore, symbolism plays a great role in the Stevenson s strange case. The
symbolism gives the illusion that Jekyll and Hyde were two completely different
entities or in other words the duality of life . Jekyll states in the short story With

Vagueness In Dracula

Throughout the gothic history, the vagueness between the outside and inside has
existed permanently, which is considered as one of the main features of gothic
novels. According to this, the development of the differentiation between outside and
inside has encountered two periods, using vampire gothic novels as examples. Firstly,
using the novel Dracula , Count Dracula is defined as the outside , which still mirrors
some human tendency and instinct. Secondly, using Interview with the vampire , the

Shortcoming In My Writing
Another shortcoming in my procedures for writing was not utilizing a person or
program to proof read my papers. So it became, during a session of self deprecating
humor with a friend I made mention of a hard fought after average grade that he
remarked of using an Internet proofreading service. Of course, I loosely took it under
advisement, however, I mostly scoffed it off I already spent too much time on the
papers. But nonetheless, I looked into the service without success of finding the
unicorn free proofreader that would change my writing. In the act of me challenging
his unicorn, he decided to show me the site. Low and behold, it was as he described,
it gave grammatical, spelling, vocabulary, and other writing advice based off my first

Just get it done Patrick you ll do alright, you will not get a great grade, but it will
get done and then four more papers to go, so that s what I did and what became of
it, an average grade as expected. That s when I noticed another factor came into
play; I started writing a draft paragraph at a time and using the proofreader followed
by making the corrections and leaving the paper at that for the day before revisiting
the paragraph for review. Furthermore, I would come back the next day read the
objectives of the assignment and the previous paragraph to see that it complied
before moving forward to the next paragraph. In conclusion, the implementation of a
few different techniques and tools discussed in this reflection has improved my
ability to write effectively and produced vastly improved results. As for the
disciplines, I feel a better grasp of the disciplines of social and natural sciences as I
moved through the subjects than I initially had when I wrote the first assignment for
the course. Furthermore, this experience and the lessons learned during the course
will provide a stable platform as I move forward in my continued education and
pursuit of a
The Flaws Of The Articles Of Confederation
On March 1st, 1781, the Articles of Confederation were signed and ratified. Although
this document protected and strengthened the United States from British rule, gave
the U.S citizens freedom, and organized the 13 states, there were many flaws which
sat upon the surface of these articles. Over time these flaws presented themselves
through high taxes, debt, and unenforceable laws across state line. Under the Articles
of Confederation, there were neither a chief executive or a judiciary. In the
Federalists Papers it states that The Crowning defect of the Confederation is the lack
of a judicial power. Laws are pointless without courts to interpret and define their true
meaning and operation. Though it could make treaties, it could not enforce
Prohibition Of The Former Flint Brewery Building
Ralph sits in the Pere Marquette rail depot in Flint, fidgeting with the lose button
on his overcoat, and looking down at his shabby brown shoes. The morning sun is
low and catches dust in its light as it shines through the windows. His eyes dart to
the door every time it opens. He is expecting a cop to walk in at any moment. He is
getting desperate and would look suspicious if it wasn t for his overall gentle
appearance. He gets up and checks the time tables for the fourth time and debates if
he should inquire why the train is late. He walks to the window and watches the
congregation gathering outside the Lakeview Methodist Episcopal Church, which
ironically is housed in the former Flint Brewery building and has been since 1915,

Walking that morning, something in Smith Bridgman s Co store window caught
his eye, in the display where a pair of red alligator skin shoes. These shoes
intoxicated him and without a second thought Ralph went in to buy them. The
salesman said that they were one of a kind, sure to be the only pair in Flint. Ralph
paid cash for the shoes and as store policy directed, a sales recite including Ralphs
name and address was retained in the men s departments as a record of sale.
Ralph had gotten home and put the shoes on. They were a size to large and without
question the nicest thing he had ever owned. Ralph needed to deliverer some gin to a
house around noon and was excited to wear the new shoes out. Though he had
never done a delivery before, he had sold to this guy plenty of times at Atwood. He
packaged up the gin and headed out just before noon to travel the few blocks to the
customer s house wearing the new red shoes.
About a block from the house Ralph saw the two foot patrol cops step out of
Alvord s Market. They waited for him to pass then flowed behind him. Ralph was
worried but talked himself down. He had packaged the gin to look like bread and
the house was just around the corner, besides he didn t recognize them and they
likely didn t recognize him. He got to the house and went through the gate and
around to the side door and knocked; no answer. He knocked again and stepped back
to make sure the cops had passed. They were standing just
Three Ethical Systems Pape Essay
Three Ethical Systems Paper (WK2)
Rosalie R King
Ohio Christian University
ET 3000 Ethics
Dr. Wolfe
March 25, 2013 We all have ethics that we follow even if we do not realize that we
are following them. They are applied in the decisions we make in are day to day life
and even the choices we make for our future. For many their ethics and morals are
things that they learn through their upbringing and their life experiences. Others also
apply their faith to their already instilled ethics and morals. In the paragraphs below I
will be defining unqualified absolutism, conflicting absolutism, and graded
absolutism and give examples of different scenarios involving all three ethical
systems. Then finally I will conclude by identifying ... Show more content on

I know people of strong faith that tell a little white lie in order to protect others.
This is one ethical system that I personal do not agree with. The system of
conflicting absolutism states that moral laws cannot be avoided. It tells us that it
maintains all moral absolutes and that there are no exceptions made (K, 2011). I
find this to be untrue because I know that God has the power to change thing and
he will always provide us a way out of situations. This ethical system basically tells
us that it is our moral duty to choose the path of lesser evil. Most of our society is
evil ultimate we live in an evil world and because of this conflict exists ( Three forms
of, ).
Under this ethical system if it came to lying to save someone s life or tell the truth
and have them die a person who uses this ethical way of think would make the
choice to lie and save that person s life because lying is doing the lesser evil. To
me in this situation if I tell the truth and someone dies because of my decision then
to me I had a part in killing them and that is worse than the lie I would have told in
order to save their life. Under this system it is believe that we will be forgiven for
choosing the less evil path. To me this ethical system is one that many people use
when making the ethical decisions even though we all know that it is wrong to lie
most people would never want to see anyone die.
Finally we come to graded absolutism the text book defines it as

One or more nations may benefit from the move, but other nations may suffer as a
result. National sovereignty is also a major concern for most nations considering
integration. Concerns about national sovereignty arise because close economic
integration demands that countries give up some degree of their control over
certain policy issues, such as monetary, trade, and fiscal policies (Hill, 2004).
Another disadvantage that may plague the country from free trade is the higher
cost domestic production is replaced by a less costly and more efficient operating
facility, also this will bring a change in the supplier as well, as the lower priced
vendors (external) will be replaced by higher marked suppliers. The U.S is a highly

backed with an abundance of natural resources. The U.S. trading partner Canada is

bottom tier last in the G8 (group of 8). GDP median for Canada a little over 29,000

closing to this analysis of how NAFTA can affect both positively and negatively, it is
for the countries that abide this agreement to remain vigilant in what is needed to

Reflection Paper On Dietetics
This fall semester I had the pleasure of taking NHM 195 and fascinating and
exciting is probably an understatement about the class. From day one I was
intrigued by the new ideas and facts about dietetics. I liked the real life lectures we
had a chance of watching and the medical dictionary exercises that have absolutely
sharpened my medical vocabulary immensely. In this class we learned about the three
different types of dietetic programs: Didactic Program in Dietetics(DPD, Coordinated
Program in Dietetics (CP), and Dietetic technician program (DT). The DPD is the
educational requirements all students wanting a career in dietetics. The program

RD s could work in so many different places such as long term care facilities, public
health, food service management for schools, hospitals, colleges, universities, and
private practice. An RD median salary is about $58,000 a year. This is under what
I believe it should be but it is a good living for someone who loves what they do.
There are many ways to make a great living being a RD because of the vast pool of
jobs that are needed. For those who do not join the DPD program to become a
licensed RD, there are great opportunities to further education and there is a wide
variety of skill sets that can be learned and joined by having a dietetic degree. If
you choose to go to graduate school you can apply for medical school , dental
school, physical therapy schools just to name a few. From what I have learned in
this class is what I expected when making the decision to attain this degree. This
degree gives the student many options to find out form of health service they love
and it allows you to harness and fine tune your passion into a precision
Hunger Games And White Noise Comparative Essay
Comparative Analysis of The Hunger Games and White Noise Both novels The
Hunger Games by Suzanne Collins and White Noise by Don DeLillo having varying
representations of reality and simulation. This is apparent in many articles and stories
we have read in this course. Both protagonists fear death and they keep up
appearances to stay alive. Both showcase what can happen when technology and the
government gain too much control and the haphazard and dangerous situations
society is exposed to. These novels explore the tension that reality and simulacra

continuous downfall. In White Noise, Jack s alternative reality is portrayed as the

The Elaborate Inheritance Of Chad Deity Essay
Kristoffer Diaz s play, The Elaborate Entrance of Chad Deity, is a play that
revolves around a character named Mace, and his career as a wrestler in The
Wrestling league, as Diaz so refers to the American Wrestling Association within
the play. Bertolt Brecht, a theatre practitioner, playwright, and poet, was a teenager
during World War I in Nazi Germany. He was disgusted by the world around him,
as he witnessed many of his friends sent off to die in the war. Because of Brecht s
opinions on the world around him, he negatively viewed the classical form of
theater, what he called dramatic theater , and created a new idea of theater known as
epic theater . I believe Kristoffer Diaz s play, The Elaborate Entrance of Chad Deity,

The most significant result of overinvolvement of a single character is failing to
see the larger injustices that put the character into their situation to begin with. In
the play by Kristoffer Diaz, the main injustice that is being focused on is on the
inequality based on racial demographics, specifically within the category of people
of color . Mace is from Mexico, and is racially profiled as such in both his character
on set and within the play itself as his wrestling character. He and VP, an Indian
character, represent two minority groups who are oppressed within America. The
wrestling presented is representative of the United States and the degradation of
people of color especially immigrants. At the end of the play, Mace opposes his
boss in outrage for the greater population of people of color who are unable to win
their battles, as he is to never win a match, even in his finishing match he is still
defeated by Chad Deity. VP watching on the screen is with a woman who asks, why
are they cheering for the bad guy? . This is an attention grabber that provokes the
audience to be called to

Difference Between Feminism And Cultural Relativist
Cultural Relativist and Feminist Critiques of International Human Rights Friends or
Foes? By Oonagh Reitman journal is clearly explicate the idea of how relativism and
feminism assessed that human right that we have and used nowadays is no longer
relevance. This journal explicate about the difference idea between feminist and
cultural relativist towards human right even though both agreed that human rights
need to reconstruct and there are several point that human rightsis still lacking.
However, these two perspective also have several similarities even though sometimes
they are still very different in terms of approaches strategies. The fact that feminist

Feminist is focusing on a group of women, while cultural relativist focusing on a
group of people that have the same cultural background or cultural value.
Even though the author provides a possible approach that can be used so both
feminist and cultural relativist would be able to work together. Personally I do not
think that it would be able to happen because both are so different. It is true that both
have several similarities in seeing how human right should be, however this
similarities have a different base or goals, which lead me to conclude that feminist
and cultural relativist is not a friend.
Feminist would protect the women no matter what happen, even though it means
that it could violate cultural value. Cultural relativist would be okay with harming a
female or woman as long as they would not violating cultural value. Then again, if
they start working together to reconstruct human rights, it will not be fair for
cultural relativist because the feminist defender is all over the world, they will
think it is okay to violating cultural law as long as women get their right. There is
not any which one is better than the other, it is just their idea is so different which
make me believe that there will not be any possibilities for these two to
Essay on The United States and the Suez Crisis of 1956
A: Plan of Investigation
Research Question: To what extent was the goal of U.S. actions surrounding the Suez
Crisis of 1956 to preserve neutrality to protect U.S. interests?
Background: In the midst of the Cold War and the Arab Israeli conflict, conflict
arose over Gamal Abdel Nasser s nationalization of the Suez Canal. This was of
particular concern due to Nasser s increased connection with the Soviet Union,
through the Czech Arms agreement and the Aswan Dam. Following Nasser s
nationalization of the Suez Canal, Great Britain, France, and Israel invaded Egypt. In
facing this crisis, the U.S. had to consider Cold Warpolitics with the Soviet Union,
relations with Arab and Israeli nations, and relations with the invading powers

We felt this to be a misguided policy on the part of the Government of Egypt.
(Eisenhower Radio and Television Report)
The Soviet Egyptian arms deal of September 1955 seemed doubly troubling because
it signaled new departures both in Soviet assertiveness in the region and in an Arab
state s receptivity to Soviet aid. (Hahn 151)
Aswan Dam:
In exchange for offers of Anglo U.S. financial aid to build the Aswan Dam in late
1955, Nasser suspended active opposition to the [Bagdad] pact provided that no other
states were recruited to join it (Hahn 153).
Eisenhower hoped that the recent Anglo U.S. offer to fund construction of the Aswan
Dam might win Nasser s cooperation and that Israel s insecurity stemming from the
Soviet Egyptian arms deal would force the Jewish state to negotiate (Hahn 190)
Nasser resumed denouncing the Bagdad Pact (Hahn 153)
According to John Foster Dulles, the US Secretary of State, revoking the Aswan
funding offer was intended to let Colonel Nasser realize that he cannot cooperate as
he is doing with the
The Love Story Of Mary Queen Of Scotts
On a picturesque day, the royal trumpets blare, proclaiming the arrival of the
betrothed Scottish queen to their beloved French prince. The clanging of royal
carriages and horses hooves beat the ground as they pull into the entrance of the

welcome the anticipated arrival of Mary Queen of Scotts. Servants align the walkway
to receive the royal French family, Mary, and her Ladies, finally, she makes her
grand entrance. As they wait for the royal family the ladies gossip, talk about
finding husbands, and poke fun at one of the girls who said her beau was waiting for
her to return to Scotland. The moment has finally arrived, the two young royals

While watching these shows I ve learned terminologies such as royal court, the queen
mother, king consort, and lady in waiting. One term stands out...can you guess? Give
up...lady in waiting. From watching these shows I gained a basic understanding of
what a lady in waiting encompassed. They were noble women who attended to the
queen, princess, or higher ranking noble women while waiting to be arranged for
marriage (actually some were married). After delving through the bottomless pit of
information on Google I learned their primary purpose was to serve and be a
companion to the queen. In addition, to being a companion, they had to be abreast
about the latest in fashion and dances, arrange masques, participate in political
aspects (only the highest ranking lady...yes it gets hierarchical), and lastly, engage in

King Arthur Archetypes
Roger Lancelyn Green portrays King Arthur as an archetypal hero in King Arthur
and his Knights of the Round Table. A literary archetype is a universal symbol that
can describe a type of character or patterns of human nature that show up in many
different types of literature (Archetypes). When thinking of an archetypal hero
there are many things that can describe this type of character such as having a
mother that is pure, unusual birth, being rased by foster parents, little is known of
the heros childhood, ends up returning to his or her kingdom, takes on the roal of
king or queen, has to defeat a ruler or beast, falls in love with prince or princess, not
much happens while they are the ruler, the gods lose faver in him or her, his or her
death is mysterious, and has a sepulcher(Nelson 4). King Arthuris a great example of
an archetypal hero. King Arthur shows many of the traits that are needed to be an

Arthur was conserved when his father was descised as Igrayne s husband after he
had died which means that Igrayne is still pure because she did not cheat on her

stepparents, he returns to Camelot at the age of 16 with his stepparents, ends up
pulling the sword out of the anvil to become king, after a few months of Arthur
ruling he is challenged by King Ryon and defeats him, he marries princess Guinevere,
and not much happens during his rein (Green 6, 7, 25, 35, 52, 54, 93). A few years
Guinevere cheats on Arthur with his best friend Launcelot, Arthur goes to war with
his nephew Mordred, ends up being killed by him, and is said to be found in a

Costa Rica Isolationism
Costa Rica was being explored early in the 16th century, but because of Costa Rica
s hot and tropical climate caused most natives searched someplace else to colonize.
In 1563, Cartago, Costa Rica s first settlement was established in a richer and
cooler zone. In 1821, Costa Rica declared independence from Spain, and in 1838
proclaimed its supremacy and freedom. Costa Rica has only experienced two
periods of war and violence toward the country s government, which led to Costa
Rica to dissipate its army in 1949. Costa Rica, meaning Rich Coast in Spanish, is
one of the twenty two Spanish speaking countries in the world. Its capital is San Jose.
Costa Rica is a presidential republic government much like the United States. It

Taking a Look at Cassava
Cassava (Manihot esculenta) is a tuberous root crop that serves as a source of
carbohydrate for more than 800 million people worldwide and its cultivation is
estimated to cover more than 18.9 million hectors (FAO, 2011). It is a vital source
of food and income to resource poor farmers (especially women) in the tropics and
staple foodcrop for nearly 200 million people in the sub Saharan Africa (Liu et al.,
2011; Nyaboga et al., 2013). In Tanzania, cassavaranks only second to maize and
third to rice, with its calories contribution per day being 15 % (FAO 2009).
Cassava production in Africa is constrained with various pests and viral diseases
especially cassava brown streak and cassava mosaic diseases. Research efforts to
genetically improve resistance against viral diseases, drought, postharvest
deterioration and nutrients fortification of this crop are underway (Zang et al.,
2005; Vanderschuren et al., 2009; Nyaboga et al., 2013). All these efforts are
through genetic transformation method which relies on the ability of cassava to
regenerate from somatic embryos to full plant. Due to heterozygozity nature of
cassava, it is difficult to use its zygotic embryos as starting materials for genetic
transformation protocols (Raemakers et al., 1997; Sarria et al., 2000; Taylor et al.,
2001; Siritunga and Sayre 2003). Instead, organised structures from somatic embryo
cotyledons and friable embryogenic calli (FECs) have been developed (Schöpke et
al., 1996; Taylor et al., 2004). FECs
Descriptive Essay On The Color Memoir
The Color Memoir One Friday night, Brooke Schettler invited me to a movie night
at her house. I decided that it would probably be too entertaining to miss out on, so
I went. I arrived at Brooke s house where I sat around for a short while eating candy
while talking with the few other people that were there, waiting for the rest of the
guests to arrive. I didn t know that the plan was to watchscary movies. I am not very
much of a scary movie person. When I watch scary movies, afterwards I will have
nightmares for a week. Even so, I stayed quiet about my discomfort and didn t say
anything while they picked a movie. The first movie that we watched was about a
mass murderer who would target particularly girls, kidnap them, torture them, and
afterwards use them as puppets for a picture that he would keep, similar to a
trophy of what he accomplished. The movie was mainly centered on a girl who
worked at a small grocery or department store. At the beginning of the movie, we
knew who the murderer was. For days he would come to the store where she
worked to buy something. One night her friend pressured her into going to a party.
She went, although, when she went outside she saw him. Not thinking much about
it, she went back inside. It wasn t until they heard a scream, found a dead body, that
she began to panic. By that time it was too late. It ends with everyone at the party in
a bloody, mangled, yet realistic picture. The next movie that we watched was called

Comparison And Contrast Essay.pdf

  • 1. Comparison And Contrast Essay Crafting a comparison and contrast essay can be an intricate endeavor, demanding careful analysis, critical thinking, and adept writing skills. At its core, this type of essay requires a deep understanding of the subjects being compared or contrasted, along with the ability to discern meaningful similarities and differences between them. One of the challenges lies in selecting suitable subjects for comparison. Finding two topics that are sufficiently similar yet distinct enough to generate insightful comparisons can be a daunting task in itself. Once chosen, delving into the nuances of each subject, identifying key points of comparison, and organizing them in a coherent manner requires patience and meticulous attention to detail. Furthermore, striking a balance between comparison and contrast is essential. Simply listing similarities and differences without providing meaningful analysis can render the essay superficial and unengaging. Conversely, delving too deeply into analysis without drawing clear comparisons can obscure the essay's purpose and confuse the reader. Crafting a compelling thesis statement that encapsulates the main points of comparison and sets the direction for the essay is crucial. This statement serves as a roadmap for both the writer and the reader, guiding the exploration of similarities and differences throughout the essay. Structuring the essay effectively is another challenge. Whether employing a point-by-point or block method of organization, ensuring logical coherence and smooth transitions between paragraphs is essential for clarity and readability. Moreover, maintaining objectivity while presenting comparisons and avoiding bias towards one subject over the other requires careful consideration. Striving for fairness and accuracy in portraying each subject ensures the essay's credibility and enhances its persuasive power. In conclusion, writing a comparison and contrast essay demands meticulous planning, analytical prowess, and effective communication skills. Navigating through the complexities of selecting, analyzing, and organizing subjects for comparison requires diligence and critical thinking. However, with dedication and effort, crafting a compelling essay that illuminates meaningful similarities and differences can be a rewarding intellectual endeavor. The Lasting Effects of the Columbian Exchange During the Age of Discovery It should no longer come as any great surprise that Columbus was not the first to discover the Americas Carthaginians, Vikings, and even St. Brendan may have set foot on the Western Hemisphere long before Columbus crossed the Atlantic. But none of these incidental contacts made the impact that Columbus did. Columbus and company were bound to bring more than the benefits of Christianity and double entry bookkeeping to America. New food crops have enabled people to live in places where they previously had only slim means of feeding themselves. Each new cargo brought new changes to the European diet, helping to improve eating and strengthening national identities with cultural foods. Some of the exotic new crops had humble beginnings; before the tomato made its way into European diets, it was a weed in the Aztec maize fields. The potatoes which hung on to Spanish ships wasn t welcomed at first either; Europeans found it unappetizing. But packing more calories per acre than any European grain, the potato eventually became the dominant food of northern Europe s working class. A few of the other plants that took root in the European palate was the cacao bean for chocolate, lima beans, corn, peanuts, pumpkins, squash, cashews, and pineapples. Sunflowers, petunias, marigolds and poinsettias also made their way to Europe. Several other plants of importance include quinine, tobacco, and sugar cane. Quinine is a malaria fighting plant found in the Peruvian Andes. Sugar cane is especially important because of its impact on slavery. While originally a European plant, it thrived in tropical American forests. Scholars estimate that each ton of sugar cost the life on one worker in the New World. As Indians perished, African slaves

Pizza isn t just a delicious treat; it s a reason to eat together. It creates and enhances memories, what late night cramming session would be complete without a piping hot pizza pie? According to an article from the National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey, the substitution of nutrients provided at levels in a pizza product meeting the HUSSC for usual pizza significantly improved dietary quality of children and adolescents eating pizza for school lunch. The aim of this study was to compare the daily intake of nutrients of children and adolescents between a pizza product meeting the US Department of Agriculture s Criteria for Health and a usual pizza product. • 6. White Zombie Apocalypse Anyone paying attention has had the privilege of seeing the rotting, disheveled, missing limb creature inhabiting society in a sensational way. Dating back thousands of years, zombies were integrated into American society with [the] depiction of the zombie from 19th century Haitian voodooism (Crockett, 2016) leading to the zombie epidemic existing today. The dawn of the dead has reigned from as early as the 1930s and now a spin off concept has emerged. A zombie apocalypse has influenced modern day media such as movies, TV shows and videogames: reflecting the viewers worst fears and adapting the generation. The first recorded zombie film White Zombie (1932) told a tale of a white couple who had an encounter with a Haitian voodoo master. During these years, spiritualism was at its highest White Zombie stroke America s worst fear of voodoo aiming to destroy love. Many films proceeded White Zombie, all carrying the same infectious fear of witchcraft. It wasn t until the 1940s that zombies no longer began to reflect the fear of voodoo but of nuclear extinction. • 7. Occurrence Of Abuse On The Childhoods Of Serial Killers Occurrence of Abuse in the Childhoods of Serial Killers Danielle E. Higgins University of Southern Indiana Abstract Many factors contribute to the inner workings of a serial killer. One of the most prominent seems to be the incidence of some type or multiples types of childhood abuse. This paper discusses the different types of child abuse that could contribute to qualities of a serial killer, including several well known serial murderers. It also discusses the different types of serial killers and the characteristics that each type portrays. Occurrence of Abuse in the Childhoods of Serial Killers Serial murder is one of the most horrific acts that a person can commit. Multiple murder can be broken down into three different types: mass murder, spree murder, and serial murder (Knight, 2006). Mass murder involves killing three or more individuals in one place during one short time span, spree murder involves killing three or more individuals within a time period of 30 days, and serial murder is killing three or more individuals over a time span of more than 30 days with a cooling off period between the murders, being anywhere from days, weeks, months, or even many years (Knight, 2006). In this paper, I am going to focus on the latter serial killers. Many researchers are interested in serial killers, mainly to figure out why these people kill the way that they do. Anderson (1994), compares serial killers to addicts alcoholics, gamblers, drug abusers, etc. they all seem to have

With the recent spike in charter schools across the country, states have begun research on whether or not to allow the forming of charter schools. Community groups, parents, and cities all have the power to start a charter school if the respective state allows the forming of these lucrative schools. These schools have their pros and their cons; however states must decide whether or not one outweighs the other. Naomi Calvo and Karen Hawley Miles explain in Turning Crisis into Opportunity , an article for Educational Leadership in 2011, take City High, a charter school in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, as an example of how charter schools are not having a negative impact on students and are, in fact, having a positive impact on student performance. The student population is about half black and half white, 60 percent are eligible for free or reduced price lunch, and 11 percent receive special education services (Calvo and Miles). These statistics suggest that students are receiving excellent grades and are having no problems going to school with a variety of cultures, as stated by the student population being about half white and half black. The dramatic percentage of students receiving incentives for their grades is an extremely strong piece of evidence in support of charter schools and evidence that states should strongly consider when making laws for or in opposition to charter schools. Not only does this evidence support the fact that people think that charter schools have a positive impact on student performance, there is also evidence that charter schools are not taking funds away from surrounding

The Robber Bridegroom Analysis These inconsistencies and contradictions has not only broken the belief that non fiction meant true (Atwood, In Search 1513), problematizing the absolute authority and authenticity of historical materials, and therefore the primitivity and purity of the authoritative discourse achieved by these official materials, but also left Atwood a gap to fill in the light of her own need to empower the other being in the marginal and invisible position of the power relationship to speak. By way of reconstructing the literary canon, Atwood in The Robber Bride also satisfies this need. Furthermore, in the novel, while listening to the story of The Robber Bridegroom, Liz s twin daughters insisted to turn all male roles to female roles, which corresponds to the whole theme of the novel. Grimm s The Robber Bridegroom as a traditional European fairy tale written in 1812, more or less, inevitably, complies with what the higher class demand in morals in keeping with the Protestant ethic and a patriarchal notion of sex roles in attempt to educate children and appeal to the morals and virtues of middle class readers (Jack Zipes,в…№в…№в…µ). Though it appears a hero such as the Miller s daughter defeating the vicious man in its ending, which seems to reverse the sex role of that time, however, in fact, female characters cannot escape their presupposed images at all women are delineated either as victim or as behaving goodness like an angle such as Miller s daughter. Our world could be produced or simulated by some sort of machine, or life is actually just a dream someone dreamt up one night. Reality is dependent on our perception, which is affected by what truly exists. Meaning that if we, as a single person, are the only thing that actually exists, then that proves that reality is indeed not real. But considering this point is considered Solipsism, there s enough evidence to go against it. Disproving solipsism is the key to support the idea that reality is real. The philosophical theory of a false reality can be traced all the way back to Plato s Allegory of the Cave, where 3 prisoners are trapped in a cave and... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Of course, the evil scientist would have to be outside? or would he? Perhaps there is no evil scientist, perhaps (though this is absurd) the universe just happens to consist of automatic machinery tending a vat full of brains and nervous systems. This time let us suppose that the automatic machinery is programmed to give us all a collective hallucination, rather than a number of separate unrelated hallucinations. The teacher spoke Catalan (the target language) from the very first moment she arrived in class greeting the students with the words bona tarda . First, she started the lesson by writing on the blackboard parts del dia , el matГ , la tarda and la nit . In order to explain the meaning of such words she showed the gesture of waking up and then she turned on and off the light of the room twice. The teacher continued to explain the meaning of the words with drawings on the blackboard: a sun next to the word sol , a star next to the word estrella , a moon next to the word lluna and a cloud next to the word nГєvols . Second, she opened a book and read the first two lines. To explain the meaning of what was just read she moved around the classroom and illustrated verbs trough actions. For example, to explain the word perdre (to lose) she acted as she was looking for something around the room. Next she asked the students, again in the target language, to read aloud a couple of sentences one by one. After each student read the teacher used gestures and pictures to explain what was written in the text. In order to explain the word paГs she made an example in Catalan using students personal factors: Italia es un paГs . While reading the book she showed images that represented what was happening in the story; each line had a different image that helped with

In a combat zone, this becomes even more important because lives and the success of the mission depend on it. This was not the case however, during a fight called Operation Anaconda. The purpose of this paper is to point out what went wrong with the lack of planning, coordination, rehearsal, and preparation between Air and ground communications, and how it proved to be critical during Operation Anaconda. The ending results were a delayed execution and several friendly casualties. Major Mark Davis conducted extensive interviews on this topic with air, ground, and special operations commanders, staff officers, and other forces that participated in Operation Anaconda. In his research, Davis found some major problems had occurred that caused a failure in coordination efforts. The first error Davis sighted was that the DOD failed to establish proper command structures and relationships needed for integration among the systems (MacPherson 2005, p. 350). This made it difficult for air and ground forces to communicate among each other when the battle was underway. Davis also sites that U.S. Central Command Chief Franks, made a costly decision to command the war from his office in Tampa, Florida. He was 7,000 miles and 10 time zones away from the battle front. Chief Franks believed that rather than move himself and his unit, would speed up the operating progress and not slow down the mission. Franks and his command relied on video phone conferences instead of personal communications, which led to limited communications. Another problem was that Franks gave lists of plans to be carried out rather than one battle plan. Also, because of the large numbers of independent units that participated, it was impossible for Franks to maintain communication presence and coordinate over this large command structure. This ultimately left decision making in the hands of CENTCOM staff

Count Camillo Benso Di Cavour Count Camillo Benso di Cavour was a man born into Italian politics during a time where the divided peninsula was in constant turmoil which was largely due to the many shifts in power throughout the many territories of Italy. Descending from a noble family and having both marquis for a father and a mother who was the lady in waiting to the princess at the time (who was the first Napoleon s sister), Cavour had the chance early on to observe politics (Botta, pg. 6). What he largely had the chance to see was the great divisions that plagued the governments of Italyas it fell from France control. While he was attending the Military Academy of Turin, he found himself hired as the page to Charles Albert, the heir at the time to the throne of Sardinia (Botta, pg. 7). Eventually dismissed by Albert and allowed to return to his studies at the Academy, Cavour soon had the opportunity to tour the country through his rapid progression through the ranks. After his service, Cavour sought to delve deeper into the politics all around him. In addition to studying political science and political economics, he had the opportunity to watch the political changes of England and France (the French Revolution). He is quoted as having said to an English friend in one of his numerous letter that While all of Europe is walking with a firm step in the path of progress, unhappy Italy is always borne down under the same system of civil and religious tyranny. One particular case she always told was the story of Sadie Sachs which influenced her to really do something about women s rights and control over their own bodies. That influenced me to pick her to write and research about her. As the story went Sanger said, Sadie had developed an infection from an illegal abortion and begged Sanger and the doctor to tell her how to prevent another child, thinking it would kill her. The doctor scoffed at her remark and promptly left, leaving Sachs with Sanger. She begged for her to tell her a way to prevent conception, but Sanger could not tell her anything, as it was illegal, (Katzive, 2015, p. 128). She felt enraged by how she couldn t simply help a women in need of wanting to learn how to prevent herself from having any more children. After the incident she met her future husband, William Sanger and together they had three children. Not only did William give Margaret the gift of children and a family, but also gave her the opportunity to finally share her knowledge of the topic pertaining to women and the use of contraception. This was a socialist newspaper where not only did she write a column on birth control, but later she got an opportunity to create her own newspaper which was called The Woman Rebel.

The ban on large sugary drinks more than 16 ounce at food service establishments proposed by The New York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg sparked a heated debate over this question. Proponents of the ban justified it by citing studies which showed excessive amount of sugar causes obesity and has many other serious negative effects on health. They argued that such consequences have negative effect for the whole society, in form of additional health care and social welfarecost. Opponents of the ban argued that it imposes an unjustified and unnecessary limit on personal freedom, does not reach the intended goal of limiting obesity, and sets precedent for excessive government overreach. • 19. Coronary Artery Disease Is The Most Common Type Of Heart... Coronary Artery Disease is the most common type of heart disease and is the leading cause of death in the United States in both men and women. It is caused by a buildup of cholesterol and other materials on the inner walls of arteries. The buildup is called atherosclerosis. As the buildup grows the heartgets less and less blood supply thereby depleting it of oxygen. This eventually leads to chest pain (angina) or a heart attack which is usually caused by a clot that suddenly breaks off the hearts blood supply which causes permanent heart damage. Over time, if this condition continues it can eventually lead to heart failure and arrhythmias. An arrhythmia is a change in the heart s normal beating process (MedlinePlus 2015). Coronary Artery disease is caused by damage or injury to the inner layer of a coronary artery and can be caused by a number of factors. Some of them are; smoking, high blood pressure, high cholesterol, diabetes or insulin resistance, and/or a sedentary lifestyle. After the wall of an artery is damaged it makes it much easier for fatty deposits (plaque) such as cholesterol and other fatty waste products to build up on the linings of artery walls. This process is known as atherosclerosis. If this plaque breaks or ruptures platelets will clump at the site to try and repair the artery, but this can also block the arteries which can lead to a heart attack. The main factors that place a person at risk for this disease are age, as getting older is

This is one ethical system that I personal do not agree with. The system of conflicting absolutism states that moral laws cannot be avoided. It tells us that it maintains all moral absolutes and that there are no exceptions made (K, 2011). I find this to be untrue because I know that God has the power to change thing and he will always provide us a way out of situations. This ethical system basically tells us that it is our moral duty to choose the path of lesser evil. Most of our society is evil ultimate we live in an evil world and because of this conflict exists ( Three forms of, ). Under this ethical system if it came to lying to save someone s life or tell the truth and have them die a person who uses this ethical way of think would make the choice to lie and save that person s life because lying is doing the lesser evil. To me in this situation if I tell the truth and someone dies because of my decision then to me I had a part in killing them and that is worse than the lie I would have told in order to save their life. Under this system it is believe that we will be forgiven for choosing the less evil path. To me this ethical system is one that many people use when making the ethical decisions even though we all know that it is wrong to lie most people would never want to see anyone die. One term stands out...can you guess? Give up...lady in waiting. From watching these shows I gained a basic understanding of what a lady in waiting encompassed. They were noble women who attended to the queen, princess, or higher ranking noble women while waiting to be arranged for marriage (actually some were married). After delving through the bottomless pit of information on Google I learned their primary purpose was to serve and be a companion to the queen. In addition, to being a companion, they had to be abreast about the latest in fashion and dances, arrange masques, participate in political aspects (only the highest ranking lady...yes it gets hierarchical), and lastly, engage in reading and
  • 53. King Arthur Archetypes Roger Lancelyn Green portrays King Arthur as an archetypal hero in King Arthur and his Knights of the Round Table. A literary archetype is a universal symbol that can describe a type of character or patterns of human nature that show up in many different types of literature (Archetypes). When thinking of an archetypal hero there are many things that can describe this type of character such as having a mother that is pure, unusual birth, being rased by foster parents, little is known of the heros childhood, ends up returning to his or her kingdom, takes on the roal of king or queen, has to defeat a ruler or beast, falls in love with prince or princess, not much happens while they are the ruler, the gods lose faver in him or her, his or her death is mysterious, and has a sepulcher(Nelson 4). King Arthuris a great example of an archetypal hero. King Arthur shows many of the traits that are needed to be an archetypal hero. Arthur was conserved when his father was descised as Igrayne s husband after he had died which means that Igrayne is still pure because she did not cheat on her husband (Green 4,11). Arthur was not raised by is birth parents he is raised by stepparents, he returns to Camelot at the age of 16 with his stepparents, ends up pulling the sword out of the anvil to become king, after a few months of Arthur ruling he is challenged by King Ryon and defeats him, he marries princess Guinevere, and not much happens during his rein (Green 6, 7, 25, 35, 52, 54, 93). • 54. Costa Rica Isolationism Costa Rica was being explored early in the 16th century, but because of Costa Rica s hot and tropical climate caused most natives searched someplace else to colonize. In 1563, Cartago, Costa Rica s first settlement was established in a richer and cooler zone. In 1821, Costa Rica declared independence from Spain, and in 1838 proclaimed its supremacy and freedom. Costa Rica has only experienced two periods of war and violence toward the country s government, which led to Costa Rica to dissipate its army in 1949. Costa Rica, meaning Rich Coast in Spanish, is one of the twenty two Spanish speaking countries in the world. Its capital is San Jose. • 55. Taking a Look at Cassava Cassava (Manihot esculenta) is a tuberous root crop that serves as a source of carbohydrate for more than 800 million people worldwide and its cultivation is estimated to cover more than 18.9 million hectors (FAO, 2011). It is a vital source of food and income to resource poor farmers (especially women) in the tropics and staple foodcrop for nearly 200 million people in the sub Saharan Africa (Liu et al., 2011; Nyaboga et al., 2013). In Tanzania, cassavaranks only second to maize and third to rice, with its calories contribution per day being 15 % (FAO 2009). Cassava production in Africa is constrained with various pests and viral diseases especially cassava brown streak and cassava mosaic diseases. Research efforts to genetically improve resistance against viral diseases, drought, postharvest deterioration and nutrients fortification of this crop are underway (Zang et al., 2005; Vanderschuren et al., 2009; Nyaboga et al., 2013). All these efforts are through genetic transformation method which relies on the ability of cassava to regenerate from somatic embryos to full plant. Due to heterozygozity nature of cassava, it is difficult to use its zygotic embryos as starting materials for genetic transformation protocols (Raemakers et al., 1997; Sarria et al., 2000; Taylor et al., 2001; Siritunga and Sayre 2003). Instead, organised structures from somatic embryo cotyledons and friable embryogenic calli (FECs) have been developed (SchГ¶pke et al., 1996; Taylor et al., 2004). FECs
  • 56. Descriptive Essay On The Color Memoir The Color Memoir One Friday night, Brooke Schettler invited me to a movie night at her house. I decided that it would probably be too entertaining to miss out on, so I went. I arrived at Brooke s house where I sat around for a short while eating candy while talking with the few other people that were there, waiting for the rest of the guests to arrive. I didn t know that the plan was to watchscary movies. I am not very much of a scary movie person. When I watch scary movies, afterwards I will have nightmares for a week. Even so, I stayed quiet about my discomfort and didn t say anything while they picked a movie. The first movie that we watched was about a mass murderer who would target particularly girls, kidnap them, torture them, and afterwards use them as puppets for a picture that he would keep, similar to a trophy of what he accomplished. The movie was mainly centered on a girl who worked at a small grocery or department store. At the beginning of the movie, we knew who the murderer was. For days he would come to the store where she worked to buy something. One night her friend pressured her into going to a party. She went, although, when she went outside she saw him. Not thinking much about it, she went back inside. It wasn t until they heard a scream, found a dead body, that she began to panic. By that time it was too late. It ends with everyone at the party in a bloody, mangled, yet realistic picture. The next movie that we watched was called The Lazarus
