MODERN TRENDS
IN WORLD
EDUCATION
Introduction:
Education is the imparting and acquiring of
knowledge through teaching and learning,
especially at a school or similar institution.
The earliest educational processes involved
sharing information about gathering food and
providing shelter; making weapons and other
tools; learning language; and acquiring the
values, behaviour, and religious rites or
practices of a given culture.
Education developed from the human
struggle for survival and enlightenment. It
may be formal or informal.
Informal education refers to the general
social process by which human beings
acquire the knowledge and skills needed
to function in their culture.
Formal education refers to the process by
which teachers instruct students in courses
of study within institutions.
Traditional Education:
Traditional education is also called
customary education or conventional
education.
The main motive of traditional education is
to pass on the values, manners skills and the
social practice to the next generation which
is necessary for their survival.
Traditional Education:
In traditional education the student learns about
the customs and tradition of the society in
which he lives. This type of education is mostly
imparted to the students by the means of oral
recitation.
There is very less written work or practical
work. The students simply sit down together
and listen to the teacher or another who will
recite the lesson.
The traditional does not include written tests
but it includes some oral tests which are not
very formal. Traditional education is very far
from the use science and technology.
Modern Education:
Modern education is very different from the
traditional education.
The education which is taught in the schools
today is the modern education.
Modern education teaches about the skills
required today that is the skills of science
and technology, science of medical science
etc. In addition to listening, the modern
education includes writing, visualizing,
imagining, and thinking skills.
Modern Education:
This type of education also includes written
tests to examine if the students are learning
properly or not.
This is done in a very formal way. The
methodology used for teaching is very
interactive.
Modern education is just an evolution of the
traditional education which was imparted to
the students a few years back.
TraditionalEducationvs. ModernEducation
Traditional and modern educations are both
related to each other and different from each
other also.
In the early history of our country, there was
a time where there were no schools. The
children acquired the education or
knowledge from their ancestors.
At that time this knowledge focused only on
the skills required for survival.
TraditionalEducationvs. ModernEducation
The people who lived in jungles got the
education from their ancestors who taught
them how to hunt animals for their food,
how to use animal skins for different
purposes, how to make tools.
They were taught about their rituals or the
customs they followed.
They were taught about the religions the
followed.
TraditionalEducationvs. ModernEducation
They taught them the stories of their gods
and kings from which they could learn good
morals.
The kings used to send their sons to schools
which were called gurukuls in India.
In these gurukuls they were taught how to
use different weapons, how to protect
themselves and how to attack their enemies.
NATIONAL AND GLOBAL LEVEL:
Every year we are seeing a change of trends
in almost all sectors and the case is no
different in the field of education.
This is one of the areas we see a lot of
remarkable changes every year.
It makes serious impacts on a student’s
perspective on education and the learning
outcomes.
NATIONAL AND GLOBAL LEVEL:
 It depends on a lot of factors including
available resources, what options are
affordable for a larger society and the
changing needs or demands of the present
generation students.
 Education trends are dynamic in nature.
 Here let us have a look at the educational
trends you will witness in the year 2019.
1.Integrated Learning Solutions
 It is not a Practical Idea for schools to wait
till 100% digitalization to give students the
taste of modern education.
 Integrated learning solutions are now an
accepted reality in most schools.
 They are aiming to provide optimum digital
infrastructure requirements while keeping
traditional textbooks as the base.
2. Augmented Reality
Knowledge retention improves drastically
when learning involves audio, video, and
visuals which is lacking in traditional
lectures.
This is one reason why schools have
accepted virtual reality with both hands.
In fact, virtual reality is not only about
seeing something but about experiencing the
subject which helps students to learn with
better understanding.
3. PersonalizedLearning
This is going to be a notable trend of the
year as students can learn without worrying
about device, location and timing
constraints.
This even changes the way of education
delivery or learning process and students
can learn without a barrier of their strength,
weakness or pace of understanding.
4. Professional Development of Teachers
The educators are of course an integral
element of the learning ecosystem. And that
is why it is important to familiarise them
with present generation competencies and
skills so that students can experience the
best of the technologies available now.
This simply pushes the need for professional
development programs when they can get
better with the novel teaching-learning
pedagogies as well as enhance their lateral
thinking abilities
5. Bite-Sized Learning
Short-term attention span has always been
an issue in the education sector. Students
have struggled a lot to cope with the long,
intense text. The learning content has not
been very interactive, which reduced
learning abilities in students.
Now, the education sector has started
understanding the unique learning needs of
each and every student. This has been
possible due to emerging digital
technologies.
6. Internet of Things
This is, in fact, a much-discussed area in the
digital transformation trends in the field of
education.
Unlike just the energy efficiencies, IOT is
putting forward options for teachers and school
authorities to better organize the daily school
activities.
This even provides additional options like
sharing student results with other teachers or
parents in real time or track the completion of
home works easily.
7. Formative assessment solutions
The importance of learning outcomes will be
focussed more and that is why formative
assessment solutions are adopted.
The routine assessment options like basic
tests for recall at the end of a term may
prove less productive in this digital era.
Through formative assessments, learning
makes an impact as it tests the student’s
progress together with curriculum delivery
and analyzes personal and social
competencies.
8. More Flexible Seating
Some of you may wonder if this is
something very important to education.
In fact, research has suggested that it can
have a remarkable impact on the way
students perceive education.
Understanding its significance, schools have
started giving them choices to opt for the
way they like to be seated in a class.
This can be standing desks, large pillows,
bucket chairs, or even café style stools
unlike the traditional classroom set up.
9. ExamManagement Revolution
The way exams are conducted and evaluated
is going to be changed which avoids the
hectic traditional styles including exam
invigilation, exam centers, and answer sheet
evaluation.
AI-based proctoring can bring a lot of
changes in the way exams are managed as
infrastructure or logistics are no more
barriers.
With this technology, students are allowed to
take exams despite their location.
10. Blockchain Technology
This innovative technology will make a
remarkable difference in the way schools
handle student credentials and certificate
verification.
It provides an option to store digital copies
of credentials like certificates in a
collaborated and the distributed
environment.
This avoids the cases of lost original
certificate and helps with a better way of
student record authentication.
CONTINUOUS TRENDS:
11. Digital Ethics and Privacy
12. Online Education
13. Shifting from STEM to STEAM
14. Smart Spaces
15. Cost Management in Education
16. Increasing Wellness Programs
17) The Changing Role of a Teacher
18)Artificial Intelligence Learning
CONCLUSION:
 India is a developing nation and it has been
expanding is every fields. Education saw an
essential change gradually after Independence.
 Development of education in India brought about
a transformation and the concept of education got
modified.
 All levels of education in India, from primary to
higher education portray a challenge. India got
well-known educational institutions such as the
IITs, IISc, IIMs, NITs, AIIMS, ISI, JU, BITS, and
ISB. The higher education system of India is the
third largest in the world, after China and the
United States.

Introduction: Education is the imparting and acquiring of knowledge through teaching and learning, especially at a school or similar institution. The earliest educational processes involved sharing information about gathering food and providing shelter; making weapons and other tools; learning language; and acquiring the values, behaviour, and religious rites or practices of a given culture.
  • 5. Education developed from the human struggle for survival and enlightenment. It may be formal or informal. Informal education refers to the general social process by which human beings acquire the knowledge and skills needed to function in their culture. Formal education refers to the process by which teachers instruct students in courses of study within institutions.

This type of education is mostly imparted to the students by the means of oral recitation. There is very less written work or practical work. The students simply sit down together and listen to the teacher or another who will recite the lesson. The traditional does not include written tests but it includes some oral tests which are not very formal. Traditional education is very far from the use science and technology.
  • 8. Modern Education: Modern education is very different from the traditional education. The education which is taught in the schools today is the modern education. Modern education teaches about the skills required today that is the skills of science and technology, science of medical science etc. In addition to listening, the modern education includes writing, visualizing, imagining, and thinking skills.

The methodology used for teaching is very interactive. Modern education is just an evolution of the traditional education which was imparted to the students a few years back.
  • 10. TraditionalEducationvs. ModernEducation Traditional and modern educations are both related to each other and different from each other also. In the early history of our country, there was a time where there were no schools. The children acquired the education or knowledge from their ancestors. At that time this knowledge focused only on the skills required for survival.
  • 11. TraditionalEducationvs. ModernEducation The people who lived in jungles got the education from their ancestors who taught them how to hunt animals for their food, how to use animal skins for different purposes, how to make tools. They were taught about their rituals or the customs they followed. They were taught about the religions the followed.

  • 15. 1.Integrated Learning Solutions  It is not a Practical Idea for schools to wait till 100% digitalization to give students the taste of modern education.  Integrated learning solutions are now an accepted reality in most schools.  They are aiming to provide optimum digital infrastructure requirements while keeping traditional textbooks as the base.
  • 16. 2. Augmented Reality Knowledge retention improves drastically when learning involves audio, video, and visuals which is lacking in traditional lectures. This is one reason why schools have accepted virtual reality with both hands. In fact, virtual reality is not only about seeing something but about experiencing the subject which helps students to learn with better understanding.
  • 17. 3. PersonalizedLearning This is going to be a notable trend of the year as students can learn without worrying about device, location and timing constraints. This even changes the way of education delivery or learning process and students can learn without a barrier of their strength, weakness or pace of understanding.
  • 18. 4. Professional Development of Teachers The educators are of course an integral element of the learning ecosystem. And that is why it is important to familiarise them with present generation competencies and skills so that students can experience the best of the technologies available now. This simply pushes the need for professional development programs when they can get better with the novel teaching-learning pedagogies as well as enhance their lateral thinking abilities
  • 19. 5. Bite-Sized Learning Short-term attention span has always been an issue in the education sector. Students have struggled a lot to cope with the long, intense text. The learning content has not been very interactive, which reduced learning abilities in students. Now, the education sector has started understanding the unique learning needs of each and every student. This has been possible due to emerging digital technologies.
  • 20. 6. Internet of Things This is, in fact, a much-discussed area in the digital transformation trends in the field of education. Unlike just the energy efficiencies, IOT is putting forward options for teachers and school authorities to better organize the daily school activities. This even provides additional options like sharing student results with other teachers or parents in real time or track the completion of home works easily.
  • 21. 7. Formative assessment solutions The importance of learning outcomes will be focussed more and that is why formative assessment solutions are adopted. The routine assessment options like basic tests for recall at the end of a term may prove less productive in this digital era. Through formative assessments, learning makes an impact as it tests the student’s progress together with curriculum delivery and analyzes personal and social competencies.
  • 22. 8. More Flexible Seating Some of you may wonder if this is something very important to education. In fact, research has suggested that it can have a remarkable impact on the way students perceive education. Understanding its significance, schools have started giving them choices to opt for the way they like to be seated in a class. This can be standing desks, large pillows, bucket chairs, or even café style stools unlike the traditional classroom set up.
  • 23. 9. ExamManagement Revolution The way exams are conducted and evaluated is going to be changed which avoids the hectic traditional styles including exam invigilation, exam centers, and answer sheet evaluation. AI-based proctoring can bring a lot of changes in the way exams are managed as infrastructure or logistics are no more barriers. With this technology, students are allowed to take exams despite their location.
  • 24. 10. Blockchain Technology This innovative technology will make a remarkable difference in the way schools handle student credentials and certificate verification. It provides an option to store digital copies of credentials like certificates in a collaborated and the distributed environment. This avoids the cases of lost original certificate and helps with a better way of student record authentication.
